V roce 1926 byla ve Švýcarsku založena nadace ProJuventute, která měla oficiálně za cíl zlepšit podmínky pro děti z kočovnických rodin Jenišů. Název tohoto programu byl Kinder der Landstrasse. S podporou všech úrovní švýcarské vlády nadace zabavila do roku 1972 přes 600 dětí jejich jenišským rodičům. Děti byly zpravidla přidělovány do zemědělských rodin jako dělníci, umisťovány do domovů, do psychiatrických zařízení a také do věznic. K odhalení tohoto zvráceného systému přispěl novinář Hans Caprez z magazínu Beobachter. Později byl tento program kritizován jako porušování lidských práv a Jenišové v roce 1999 uznáni jako národnostní menšina.
