(00:00):
It's new tonight. The family of 26 year old Tia
Rivers is now sharing what they say happened in the moments
before she was shot and killed. Family says it started with a
domestic violence incident and she was trying to protect her
sister and she died. I was trying to help her the
best I could, trying to get her hope.

(00:21):
The shooting happened inside an apartment complex on Arden Way
near Evergreen St. We brought that to you as
breaking news last Saturday. TCA Three's Peyton Headley has
been following this story from the start and spoke with two of
Tierra's sisters today. Tierra was so sweet, kind, very
protective of her family. Tierra Rivers sisters are

(00:42):
remembering her as creative, energetic and fiercely loyal.
She definitely made sure we werealways good, yeah.
It was that drive to protect herfamily that ultimately cost her
life. It's just been really hard for
us to like wake up every day andrealize that she's not here with
us anymore. Tiara was shot and killed last
Saturday inside of this apartment complex on Arden Way.

(01:06):
It's where she had been living with her older sister, Amber.
I was scared, more so scared forher.
Amber says that afternoon Tiara walked in on an argument between
her and her ex-boyfriend. Me and my son's dad got into
argument, he didn't want her to be there while we were arguing

(01:26):
so I just kind of escalated and I shouldn't have.
Tiara stepped in to try and help.
That would be the last thing shewould.
Do and my sister tried to protect me and she lost her life
while doing so. The story of Tierra Rivers
stands as a powerful testament to both the devastating impact
of domestic violence and the extraordinary strength of

(01:48):
familial bonds. At just 26 years old, Tierra's
life was cut tragically short inSacramento, CA, where she made
the ultimate sacrifice, protecting her older sister
Amber, during a confrontation that spiraled into violence.
Those who knew Tiara remember her as a beacon of joy and
positivity in their lives. Her younger sister, Sidney

(02:11):
Rivers, shared with KCRA 3 that Tierra was a bubbly, goofy
person who brought light to any situation.
This natural ability to uplift others and her unwavering
commitment to her family's well-being we're defining
characteristics that remained constant throughout her life
right up until her final moments.

(02:34):
The events that led to this tragedy unfolded on Saturday,
April 19th, 2025 at approximately 1:30 PM at a
Sacramento apartment complex. What began as an argument
between Amber and her ex-boyfriend, the father of her
child, quickly escalated into a situation that would have fatal

(02:54):
consequences. Amber later recounted to KCRA 3.
My son's dad and I were arguing and he didn't want her there.
Things escalated, and it shouldn't have.
When Tiara arrived at the apartment, she immediately
recognized the danger her sisterwas in and stepped in to defend
her. The intervention, though born of

(03:16):
love and protective instinct, would cost Tiara her life, as
Amber later described. The horrific moment.
My sister tried to protect me and she lost her life doing so.
In the chaos that followed, Amber desperately tried to help
her sister, giving her hope evenas the situation turned tragic.

(03:37):
The violence of that afternoon would claim not only Tierra's
life, but also that of the suspect, as Amber's ex-boyfriend
later died from a self-inflictedgunshot wound.
The circumstances surrounding the suspect's death added
another layer of complexity to this already tragic narrative.
Sacramento Police reported that officers had stopped a vehicle

(04:00):
of interest in connection with Tierra's murder on Interstate 80
near Norwood Ave. The vehicle contained multiple
occupants, among whom the suspect was discovered deceased
from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
This development brought a dark conclusion to the immediate
crisis but left Tiara's family to grapple with their profound

(04:20):
loss. In the wake of this devastating
event, Tierra's siblings have chosen to transform their grief
into action, establishing an organization called Tierra
River's Sisters Against Spousal Abuse.
This initiative represents theircommitment to preventing similar
tragedies. By providing crucial support and

(04:41):
resources to women trapped in dangerous domestic situations,
The organization aims to create a lasting legacy that honors
Tierra's protective spirit and selfless nature.
Amber, speaking about the newly formed organization, emphasized
their mission. We want to provide support and
resources to help them escape dangerous circumstances.

(05:04):
She further stressed the importance of their work,
stating any type of assistance we can provide will help ensure
this doesn't happen to someone else.
This proactive approach to addressing domestic violence
serves as a powerful way to channel their grief while
potentially saving other lives. The impact of Tierra's loss

(05:24):
continues to resonate deeply with her family members, who
cherish their memories of her vibrant presence in their lives.
Amber's emotional reflection captures the depth of their
loss. She was the best.
I miss hearing her Call My Name, her hugs, her smiles,
everything. Sydney's remembrance of how

(05:46):
Tiara always brought joy to any mood and made sure we were all
OK further illustrates the significant void left by her
absence. To support their efforts in
honoring Tiara's memory and establishing their organization,
the family has created a GoFundMe campaign.
These funds will help cover immediate arrangements and

(06:07):
potentially provide seed money for their newly formed
organization, ensuring that Tiara's story continues to make
a difference in the lives of others facing similar
circumstances. This tragic event serves as a
stark reminder of the ongoing crisis of domestic violence in
our communities and the criticalimportance of having robust

(06:28):
support systems and resources available for those in dangerous
situations. Through their newly established
organization, Tiara's family is working to ensure that their
personal tragedy becomes a catalyst for positive change,
helping to protect and support others who might find themselves
in similar circumstances. The story of Tierra Rivers is

(06:51):
not just a narrative of loss butalso one of transformation, how
a family's deep love and commitment to their sister's
memory can evolve into a force for positive change in their
community. Their efforts to establish an
organization dedicated to preventing domestic violence and
supporting its victims ensures that Tierra's final act of

(07:13):
protection continues to resonateand save lives long after her
passing. Thanks for listening to No Tears
