(00:00):
The woman called the mastermind behind the murderers is sitting
in a jail cell here in downtown tonight.
Prosecutors say she may have watched the entire thing happen
on a FaceTime call. Alexis Williams. 29 year old
Alexis Williams faced a judge tonight for the first time.
She's charged with three counts of capital murder, accused of
setting up a plot that left a mother, a father and a child

(00:22):
dead back in June of 2021. Donavia Lagway, Gregory Car He
and six year old Harmony Car He were found dead in their Fondren
apartment. Prosecutor said Lagway was
separated from her husband when she had a romantic relationship
with Alexis Williams. The mother of four broke things
off with Williams and returned to her husband, which allegedly
angered Williams to the point ofmurder.

(00:45):
If that's the consequence of dating this defendant, nobody in
Harris County is safe. At today's bail hearing, her
bond was denied. She was not allegedly the
gunman, although she coordinatedthe entire event, it appears.
Williams spoke only only once during today's hearing.
You have no bond in any of the three capital murders.

(01:08):
Prosecutors say Williams conspired with suspected hitman
Xavier Davis, promising him several $1000 in the family's
apartment for the murders. During the shooting, the car
he's 10 year old daughter watched while her family was
killed. She was also shot but survived
by playing dead. This incredible young lady was
able to get up despite being gravely wounded, care for her

(01:32):
one year old baby brother who was still in the apartment.
Davis was arrested days later, but Williams carried on with
life as usual. It apparently went down that the
defendant attended the funeral service of these victims that
she helped to kill. Prosecutors say detectives were
able to piece together the plot once they were able to crack the
passcode to Williams his cell phone.

(01:54):
When Xavier Davis was inside that apartment, he was on
FaceTime with Alexis Williams. That means that she watched
either the executions or the immediate aftermath.
The brutal murder of a Houston family in June 2021 has
culminated in a death sentence for Xavier Davis, marking one of

(02:15):
Texas's most disturbing contractkilling cases.
The details of this horrific crime have shocked the community
and highlighted the devastating impact of premeditated violence
on families. On June 30th, 2021, Davis
executed A calculated attack by forcing his way into the home of

(02:35):
Gregory Carhi, 35, and Don YaviaLagway, 29.
What followed was a sequence of events that would forever change
the lives of their children and send ripples through the Houston
community. In front of their children,
Davis shot both parents, displaying a level of brutality

(02:56):
that prosecutors would later emphasize during trial
proceedings. He then turned his weapon on
their six year old daughter, Harmony Carhi, killing her
execution style. The couple's 10 year old
daughter survived only through quick thinking, playing dead
after suffering a non fatal gunshot wound.
The surviving child's ordeal continued as she lay motionless,

(03:20):
forced to witness Davis ransacking their apartment in
search of money and jewelry. During a 2022 bail hearing,
Harris County District Attorney Shawn Tear revealed a
particularly chilling detail. Davis made a video call to his
alleged conspirator, allowing her to witness the aftermath of
the murders. This evidence would later prove

(03:43):
crucial in establishing the premeditated nature of the crime
and it's connection to a broaderconspiracy.
The attack showed elements of selective targeting as Davis
spared the life of the couple's two year old son.
A fourth child, an 8 year old boy, was fortunately absent from
the home during the murders. The tragedy deepened when

(04:05):
medical examiner's discovered that Lagway was pregnant at the
time of her murder, adding another layer of loss to the
already devastating crime. The surviving 10 year old
demonstrated remarkable courage and presence of mind in the
aftermath of the attack. Once Davis left the apartment,
she immediately secured her babybrother's safety by locking the

(04:28):
door and called for help. Her quick actions not only saved
lives but also provided law enforcement with crucial early
information about the crime. Law enforcement's response was
swift and effective. Within days, police arrested
Davis and charged him with threecounts of capital murder and a

(04:48):
single count of aggravated assault.
The investigation revealed additional crimes, including an
aggravated robbery with a deadlyweapon charge for allegedly
stealing a man's car at gunpointjust before the murders,
suggesting a broader pattern of violent behavior.
The legal proceedings took an unexpected turn when Davis, who

(05:09):
had initially pleaded not guilty, changed his plea to
guilty just minutes into his criminal trial.
This sudden reversal, while admission of his crimes, did not
prevent the trial from proceeding.
The jury was then tasked with determining whether Davis should
receive the death penalty or life imprisonment.

(05:29):
The jury's deliberations focusedon 2 crucial questions.
First, they unanimously concluded that Davis posed A
continuing threat to society likely to commit future acts of
violence. Second, they found no mitigating
circumstances substantial enoughto warrant life imprisonment
instead of the death penalty. This unanimous decision

(05:51):
reflected the jury's assessment of both the brutality of the
crimes and Davis's potential forfuture violence.
The investigation revealed a complex web of relationships and
motives. Alexis Williams, arrested in
March 2022, emerged as the alleged mastermind behind the
murders. Police discovered that Williams

(06:13):
had previously dated Lagway, andtheir relationship had ended
shortly before the shootings. The connection between Williams
and Davis traced back to their childhood friendship, providing
investigators with crucial context for how the murder plot
developed. Williams now faces serious
charges, including three counts of capital murder and aggravated

(06:35):
assault with a deadly weapon. She has maintained her
innocence, entering not guilty pleas to all charges.
Her case represents the second phase of prosecution in this
family tragedy, with authoritiesworking to hold accountable not
just the perpetrator but also those who allegedly orchestrated
the violence. The legal aftermath continues to

(06:57):
unfold. While Davis cannot appeal his
conviction due to his guilty plea, he is currently appealing
his death sentence. This process highlights the
complexity of capital punishmentcases in Texas and the multiple
layers of legal review they typically undergo.
The case has broader implications for understanding
domestic violence, murder for hire schemes and the impact of

(07:19):
relationship motivated crimes onfamilies and communities.
The involvement of children as both victims and witnesses adds
another tragic dimension to the case, raising questions about
the long term psychological impact on survivors.
The survival and testimony of the 10 year old girl remains one
of the most compelling aspects of this case.

(07:41):
Her ability to maintain composure under extreme duress,
protect her younger sibling, andalert authorities demonstrates
extraordinary resilience. Her account will likely prove
crucial in the upcoming prosecution of Williams and
serves as a testament to human courage in the face of
unimaginable horror. As the legal proceedings

(08:03):
continue, particularly regardingWilliams's prosecution and
Davis's death sentence appeal, this case serves as a stark
reminder of how personal relationships gone wrong can
escalate into devastating violence.
The pending nature of these legal matters, coupled with the
Harris County District Attorney's Office's current

(08:24):
silence on media requests, suggests that additional
developments may yet emerge in this tragic story.
