As luxury items become more attainable for the average Joe, the cost of essentials, such as electricity, basic food products, and transport, are steadily increasing. So, this week on On the House: The Household Management Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella consults honorary professor of planning Neil Sipe for expert advice on stretching household budgets.
Based at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Queensland, Neil Sipe’s research interests include transport and land use planning, natural resource management, and international comparisons of planning systems. Previously, Neil Sipe served as director of the Town Planning Program at the University of Queensland, and acquired his PhD in urban and regional planning at Florida State University.
In this episode, Neil Sipe reveals that some of the most common budgeting mistakes people make are neglecting transportation costs and various insurance commitments in their budget, which often incur additional expenses on a regular basis. Additionally, he offers advice on reducing discretionary income, be it spending less on eating out, or cutting down on travel experiences.
Together, Marie and Neil Sipe discuss habits that may prove effective in managing housing costs. So, tune in this week for essential guidance on staying afloat during hard times!
