Pendant longtemps les mélomanes tant soit peu avisés n’hésitaient pas à faire la moue à la seule évocation des œuvres de Tchaïkovski : trop populaire, trop “occidentalisé”, moins dépaysant que bien de ses compatriotes soucieux d’offrir aux oreilles occidentales, les marqueurs exotiques de la “couleur locale” eurasiate. Les cerbères du “bon goût” déploraient trop de complaisances, et leur estomac fragile avait quelque mal à digérer la prodigieuse charge lyrique, inhérente au “Pathos“ slave…ces atermoiements de la mélo-manie occidentale ont toujours scandalisé les musiciens russes les moins suspects de conformisme : au premier rang d’entre-eux, Igor Stravinsky n’a pas hésité à tacler ces contempteurs “incapables de saisir à quel point la musique de Tchaïkovski est à ce point russe, que son essence échappe au touriste en quête de pittoresque moscovite !” De la même manière, un peu plus tard, Ravel sortait de la première parisienne de Rhapsody In Blue agité de tics, et ne laissant échapper que l’exclamation : “Génie!”, ”Génie!” pour qualifier ce “saltimbanque” de Gershwin… Amérique et Russie toutes deux tard venues au concert des salles de concert, ont bousculé sur des modes différents, le confort auditif d’une vieille Europe en voie d’épuisement, occasion heureuse de proposer, une fois n’est pas coutume, envers et contre tous les bellicismes en vogue, une “coexistence pacifique” ! ••• Musiques ••• B.
