hey everybody welcome to this special
Friday edition of episode 44 which was
supposed to be maybe it was Wednesday
maybe it was last week you know we just
do the best that we can over here
um I am Casey I welcome actually first

(01:00):
off hold on welcome to prep talk live uh
I'm Casey with Cascadian especially it's
been so long I forgot how to do this
yeah yeah stumble it on the words a
little no it's just you know what it's
Friday when we do it on Wednesday you
know there's a little more energy in the
tank we'll wait till Friday then it's
like oh my goodness it's been a week uh
but with me as always is uh the urban
prepper tough what is up how are things

(01:21):
in your world how are things going it's
going good uh keeping busy end of the
week a little tired but we made it
through so we made it through we made it
through we had uh all of 38 seconds I
think to chat with each other ahead of
time uh so we know nothing about what
we're going to talk about I had a little
topic I was like all right we'll talk

(01:41):
about gardening maybe because that was
something that happened last week but
you know we'll we'll throw it in we'll
see what happens and we'll go from there
so what's what's new everybody's here oh
my goodness I'm so surprised I was like
I was a little nervous because it was
Friday and we kind of ghosted everyone
on Wednesday
um so the first question to the chat to
all of our our regulars here is uh when

(02:03):
we have these weeks where we have to
change kind of at the last minute would
it be helpful for us to post a like hey
sorry plans changed no no stream tonight
check us out on Friday post or uh is it
better to just kind of like you guys are
just watching for the notifications of
when the next episode is gonna be

(02:25):
um top do you have thoughts on that what
what you would like to do yeah I'm not
sure I I think that you do a pretty good
job of giving the heads up on stuff and
I think everyone's kind of uh you know
flexible on on the timing and stuff but
uh I guess whatever we'll probably get
some feedback in there but I imagine
that most people just uh when they see
us go live they'll probably uh probably
hop on yeah yeah Jonathan says he

(02:45):
doesn't care yeah um Pony girl very
upset very upset yeah exactly yeah we
left you hanging last week I we're sorry
sorry it was just it was one of uh of
those things uh oh Chuck apparently said
he's gonna have his own show we now have
we have a splinter group now and they
are gonna have their own show and just

(03:06):
you know do their own now wait Chuck are
you meaning you're gonna actually start
your own show in competition with us or
is it just that like we're gonna have
this special Friday show that nobody
knew about is that
um because I just want to know like are
we are we doing it oh and and here's Amy
she's very upset as well that we're
living hanging yeah that we left her

(03:27):
hanging it's just we're we're a gigantic
disappointment which you know what if
you watched our show for any longer of
time like why are you surprised at this
point I mean come on come on like we do
the best we can yeah um so anyway so top
any any we're one of the best shows in
our price range you know we are the
fresh show at our price range we are the
number one show for non-preppers

(03:49):
um they came up with like a top 10
podcast thing did you see casual
Preppers were like posting it everywhere
oh cool um and ranking number 10 was not
us yeah um yeah we didn't we didn't make
it we're like 27 right we're 27 right
now yeah I I take the full
responsibility because apparently all of
these rankings were based on a certain

(04:11):
number of episodes being out and we have
lots of episodes on YouTube but I have
not translated them to the podcast thing
so I need to work on that and then what
we're gonna need to do is have a letter
writing campaign from all of our friends
on here to get us in the top 10 for next
year I think that should be I think that
should be a goal
um all right if tup can't play then we'd

(04:32):
have fun with you good boy girl okay get
just get Pony girl a special guests like
the exact girl will be the Ed McMahon to
your Johnny Carson yes we need we need I
need to figure out that the guest star
thing I need to figure out how to do
that so when tup is very busy and he's
seven million okay I was at the I was
like Seattle Seattle Convention Center

(04:52):
on Wednesday for some highbrow event and
uh
he and Canadian prepper and City prepper
and they're millions of fans we're
having a separate like the cabal of
prepping YouTube what about Illuminati
type thing yeah yeah exactly we
understand it happens sometimes
um so any any prepping projects that
you've worked on on the last in the the

(05:14):
last let's say week or two now because
it's well my yeah my well for Christmas
uh I I got it wasn't the most romantic
gift in the world but I got my wife the
All-American canner so she uh she
finally busted that out and you know she
I think she's pretty impressed with uh
with the quality of it and like it's
like a big up and so then she brought
one of her girlfriends over and they

(05:36):
both were like it was like new jewelry
or something but it was the All-American
canner which looks like a spaceship and
if for those that haven't seen it it's a
big step up for the previous one so
she's uh she's been we've been doing
some experimenting canning over uh the
past couple weeks which is uh now is
this gonna make ugly chicken easier for
you it's it's gonna make it a little

(05:57):
classier class oh all right all right
it's gonna be a little nicer a little
fancier yeah so well it's just uh yeah
it it feels good to use equipment that's
really tight end I think so yeah exactly
yeah if you're going to do it that's the
main thing I mean the other things works
just fine but uh you know go big or go
home right so uh so that was the main

(06:18):
thing for uh prep wise for me uh let's
see it yeah by the way yeah yeah okay
all right let's we'll start the start of
our can we start yeah exactly opening
Graphics yep yep we'll start back over
again yeah okay great yeah but uh but I
was uh I was saying uh yeah I restocked
a couple EDC things and a couple modules
that were low a little first aid kit in
my EDC bag that it was running low off

(06:39):
it refilled my uh Band-Aids in my uh
because I carry Band-Aids behind my
phone in my phone case so a couple
little restocks and stuff but you know
nothing too to me very nice
what about you
um so yeah so you uh so the gardening
thing kind of came up it was a little
bit of a weird it's one of those things
when like Instagram gives you an ad and
then all of a sudden you think it's a

(07:00):
good idea yeah
um so we'll get I'll get to that here in
a second
um I ordered some uh some patches some
uh like morale patches nice but um with
words because we have tons of modules as
you do I I watched this guy on YouTube
when I was first starting out he was big
in a module so I have lots of modules

(07:22):
um but they're all black max petition
pouches of different sizes and so it's
very difficult to like remember which
one is for which yeah um even when I put
the color I got like colored velcro
things there's a tick tock and a YouTube
short where I talk about it
um those are helpful for like color of
prepping but I actually went on Amazon
and ordered custom morale patches that

(07:45):
explain what the thing is so like uh the
men's hygiene kit the women's hygiene
kit uh so that like when we're camping
we know which one is for me and my son
which one's for my wife and my daughter
um because they look very similar
um we have you know when we go on trips
we usually have like a pouch that has

(08:07):
charging packs and uh the charging hubs
in them and then we have one that's for
like our nightstands with special
Chargers and things for like iPod uh
like iPad not iPad Apple watch uh
airpods and iPhone and it's like a
little fold out thing
um so all of those sorts of things and

(08:28):
then we have like our standard EDC
survival kit and so I got little patches
that I can put on them so now we know if
there's four black uh pouches sitting in
a pile we have some idea of like what
they are and what should be in them and
what to restock that sounds good so yeah
so it's very exciting so I got those
um or they're supposedly in the mailbox

(08:49):
so but I ordered them last week
um and then for the gardening thing so I
got uh to jump topics here so last I
don't know last week two weeks ago
um I started to see the ads on Instagram
for this like vertical
um yellow squash plant that Burpee has

(09:11):
seeds for now
and I was like that's super cool idea
because we always have squashes but they
always take up lots of space and so it
could be an interesting experiment
um so I ended up getting some seeds for
that and I got uh they had the mini
cucumber seeds
um and we've always had issues with
growing cucumbers that are any sort of
decent size so we're gonna try those

(09:34):
um but I hadn't really thought like in
in January to think about gardening and
seeds but here were my ads and and here
are my purchases yeah so my question to
you is like okay is there do you think
about Guardian like is it too early to
think about gardening in January or do
you kind of think about it when you

(09:54):
think about it uh well my yeah to be
completely honest my wife has kind of
taken over the operation because she's
not impressed with my skills
we've established you were a dumpster
fire in the garden well you are I could
do something compost with no redeeming
value yeah I I well we do have a palette
compost but uh
yeah she's been talking with her her

(10:17):
sister-in-lange because she uh her
sister you know starts everything from
seeds and stuff and has this little
operation going and so my wife is
planning out her things I'm I'm just
more of a spiritual advisor at this
point and uh trying to say hey how about
we don't have like 30 pepper plants this
year that we can't eat one of those
Peppers maybe that'll be a good start
but uh but yeah we're I think we'll

(10:38):
probably start more of the planning
probably next month I imagine so
um so but yeah but she had so many
peppers she made she used all the
peppers she just made it
actually you couldn't eat them well it's
it's easier to eat the peppers like the
raw peppers were just incredibly spicy
you can eat like a like a just a little
small portion of it was way too spicy

(10:58):
for me but she did make a whole bunch of
jams so I have a whole bunch of prepper
Jam that we'll never be able to get
through so is it prepper pepper Jam or
is it pepper oh that's a good name oh I
like that I mean there's pepper pepper
pepper pepper pepper pepper pepper
pepper pepper pepper Jam I like that

(11:18):
in your prepper panties that would not
be a good plan I don't like it yeah I
think I told you how like I could smell
when she was making this pepper the
prepper pepper Jam because like it she
probably needed to use one of my mirror
safety gas masks when she's doing it
because you could smell it outside and
it's like super my eyes are watering as
I'm mowing the lawn so it was rough you

(11:38):
know in the whole like Mira safety like
does it work or not yeah that's kind of
as close to pepper spray without
actually pepper spraying yourself as you
could probably get yes you should
probably make like some organic pepper
spray or something yeah exactly I feel
like there's a video there that you
should make you know take the prepper

(11:58):
the pepper jam and like smear it all
over the thing and then you know see if
you can manage yeah I think so all right
I wonder if like I was curious like if
like bugs like if it'd be good against
bugs and like uh spiders and ants and
stuff like getting in oh that's an
interesting idea never really just about
it now so well I mean it seems like that
is a reasonable experiment

(12:20):
um I we tried we tried because we got we
back up to a wetlands and so we have
spiders and yellow jackets and all of
the bugs all of the time
um and so we tried for a while using
like lavender and mint bushes and like
putting them all over our decks so that
like when people were sitting out there

(12:41):
there was a little bit of a of a thing
um and I will say it did not work as
well as I had thought it would
um I was I was hopeful uh we had many
plants I had I don't know five or six
groupings of mint and Thyme and lavender
and rosemary up on our deck we still got

(13:02):
mosquitoes we had Cinderella plants we
still got mosquitoes
um so I'm wondering if there's a certain
uh saturation of like bugs and things
like that where the natural Plants and
Things can kind of keep it at Bay but at
a certain point there's just too many
and and you become overrun huh I don't
she my wife's big into I don't know if

(13:24):
this is other Preppers have this but she
uh she collects every single eggshell
that we have and she grinds into this
fine powder and she uses that as I don't
know snail trout I don't know what
you're using it for but something and
she has it spread out all the way so
she's very protective of of eggshells
and she wants like donations of
eggshells and she grinds them up in the
food processor and that's like a little

(13:45):
side business too that she has it looks
like certified hustle if pepper jam and
yeah purple diameter that she looks like
Tony Montana with the with the yayo but
it's really anxious now does she put it
in the garden or does she just put it
around because we used to since we have
chickens and I watched a bunch of
Homestead videos and they were all about

(14:06):
taking the chicken eggs digging the
eggshells you
um put them in the oven to dry them out
so you kill all the bacteria you grind
them up and then you put them out in the
yard and the calcium apparently helps
with the soil yeah really well for like
two summers maybe three Summers and then
that became one of those projects that I

(14:28):
was like I feel like I can buy this at
the store and and save myself time in
this whole thing yeah I think she
doesn't she because she has a lot of
roses too and then she makes rose jam so
we we again
she just make jam out of everything like
should we be concerned if we're ever in
the area that like we might at some
point be Jarred she she'd be jamming

(14:49):
she'd be yeah
she's she makes rose petal Jam of
different kind of roses and then spicy
pepper jam and that's kind of her thing
right now she be jamming
she'd be jamming yeah what we need is
okay so what we need is and I don't know
what graphic designer I've got a tap to

(15:09):
make this happen but we need the top
logo yeah we need to get rid of the the
Kangal hat yep and we need overrated
long brunette or blonde hair whatever
whatever I don't know that I've ever
seen your your wife before so I don't
even know she's very like uh she doesn't
appear on camera uh she has red hair but

(15:31):
she's kind of like do you remember
Wilson from uh Home Improvement yeah did
you ever watch this where he you could
kind of see him over the fence every
once in a while or just put just like
the eyebrows maybe that's kind of that's
what she prefers yeah so what we need is
it's it's tough face with long hair and
then a jar of jam in front of where like

(15:52):
the goatee and everything would be yeah
all you see is from here up with long
hair and jam or maybe like the jam
elorean type thing it could be a playoff
of
I I like that idea but I feel like the
candelorian stands on we don't want it
yeah I feel like
it is
a top deserves
her

(16:13):
we're still having some organization uh
disputes as far as how much shelf space
is well you have this you need this
module I'm like yes I need I need my
first aid module dude uh because you
need that Lids module of canned Lids
like silver uh this weekend if I have
time I'll try to clear off a couple
shelves that we could include some of

(16:34):
her uh her camping supplies I think
there should be you should do some
videos on like um
like civil unrest but like how you're
coping with the civil unrest in your
house yeah like negotiating and all of
this and how do you get to an equitable
solution when there is an Insurgent

(16:55):
Force trying to steal yourselves
yeah that might be maybe that'll be good
for a little bit that's that's how we
know that there'll be that video and
then the next video will be
um so I've been asked to move out
um

(17:16):
oh yeah
yes on the streets of Washington tupp
lives alone now that's yeah that was
fantastic
um all right let's look at let's look at
the chat real fast because they've all
been talking
um how has my connection been for this
so far we've we're about 17 minutes in
is it you're fantastic all right great I

(17:39):
had to make some electrical adjustments
on something the the satellites that you
called in in order to make this work you
know I think was was a great call all
right good all right I think your your
relationship with with Canadian prepper
and City prepper to get on their private
Network I think was a genius it's like a
little VPN that they have yeah yeah I
mean the Doom Zoom hasn't happened yet

(17:59):
but since nobody's using the
infrastructure you might I don't know I
think there's contract disputes and
stuff with the legal teams of them
see there it looks like it's quite an
active comment section with all sorts of
uh
tiger mosquitoes uh
uh yeah top you can you can totally live
in my Nuance yep that would be funny uh

(18:22):
we'll open up one of the trap doors and
you can live in one of the the little
Heidi containers yeah
that's pretty hilarious I actually got
an inflatable couch so that like we can
like have like family movie night and
stuff and the kids can like hang out
yeah um so yeah it it continues to
evolve yeah on what we're organizing us

(18:43):
a slumber party for my daughter and uh
with one of her her good friends and
we're gonna be setting up the tents and
I get to test out some of my gear again
so
um any any opportunity that you can get
to test out some modules and gears good
time so that's gonna be we're going to
be setting up the tents indoors though
so

(19:15):
um but you should do you should set up a
camera and just film the setup thing and
then you could do like a tent video yeah
and it wouldn't be like outside and
rainy and stuff yeah
um all right let's see
um
hold on everybody's everybody's talking
this is fantastic there's a whole shelf
discussion

(19:35):
um
Colleen in my house all the shelves are
mine hubby has the shed
I mean that could be an option wow that
could be nice yeah
um you could make one I know a guy
I mean we build something like this you
could have the garage and we'll build
Mrs tup like her own canning uh

(19:59):
maybe she'll get like an atlas survival
shelter and it's just for canning
downstairs and then the pipe that comes
up for the air will just be those fumes
of the peppers exactly that's the
deterrent if it's things go badly you
just hit the button and it just aerates
pepper jelly all over everything
I think that would be fantastic yeah we
were talking about like because I'm in

(20:19):
like the one of the bed it's an office
area but if we needed to I could uh of
having like a a tiny home like in the
backyard that is like the the tough
office type thing so and it'd be
portable too
yeah I think that would be I think that
could be really cool I still think there
are part of me even now that I this is
all built and I love this yeah whole

(20:39):
setup and everything if if I we had a
different setup I think getting a like a
really nice RV type of a setup
could accomplish a similar thing and
then also give you the opportunity to
use it for other things
um the office right now like I can use
it as an office I can stream I can do

(21:00):
stuff we have emergency supplies in it
it can be like a fun family hangout spot
and all that sort of stuff but you know
as far as like a bug out scenario like
you can't take it and leave
um whereas having something like a a
nicer RV or something like that you
could have the solar you could have the

(21:21):
some of that other stuff that is be
turning out to be a little more
challenging with this whole setup
um yeah a Wandering Beast uh who used to
be Beast 12 101 back in you know 15
years ago but uh he has like an article
RV kind of a prepper RV type setup which
is really cool uh a real nice family too
that they they go and do some Adventures

(21:41):
it's called The Adventure fan I think or
the Adventure Bus uh is cool but yeah RV
would be uh that seems like a good
prepper vehicle and maybe you and I
maybe be this part this uh this podcast
could go RV mode and we'll just we'll
broadcast from different uh undisclosed
areas I I love that idea I think uh we
should one of these times we should do
one in person while we're both in the

(22:01):
same room
so I think that I think that is true I I
have
um some thoughts on that actually
um and I think we have some discussion
um because there's gonna be we're gonna
be doing some traveling this summer I
know up into your neck of the woods oh
um so I'm thinking so it's a possibility
then I
there's a tough and Cascadia dispatch

(22:22):
family dinner maybe where we could do
that sort of stuff I think we could
totally do the the uh the podcast in
person that weekend maybe I think
there's all kinds of I think there's all
kinds of things we could we could do
let's do it yeah well I'll have your
people talk to my people and we'll get
that going sir all right
I'll talk to the legal team exactly
exactly I mean you have layers it's

(22:43):
layers on all of this yeah we need to
have security and all those you know
kind of measures and stuff yeah exactly
of course of course I know you know uh
yeah exactly I'm finding out I'm finding
out I'm trying to figure out the next
time I get to know down in the the
Portland uh you're in you're in a
Bernie's territory down there I I don't
have anything planned though for a while
yeah well let us let us know so that we

(23:04):
can you know make sure that the
paperwork is in order and you can
because I don't want to get I know that
you run the whole sector so yeah we
don't want you caught on a technicality
yeah you know at the over the bridge
that would just be bad
um but I think that would be uh yeah
Bernie Bernie is feeling very well we're
no we're talking Bernie too Bernie yeah
exactly Bernie you can be included yeah

(23:25):
Bernie I miss our the burning backstage
uh actually we haven't seen Bernie and
although we talk all you know we've
talked so many times but have a seat of
a person it's actually you and I haven't
seen each other in person for probably
half a decade or so yeah exactly it's
been forever but it doesn't but uh but
we talk frequently so yeah we have one
picture we have one picture and that one

(23:46):
picture is what we use
we both had long we both had long hair
oh yeah real buff we're very fit yeah
exactly
um by the way my my intermittent fasting
I gotta kick it back up again I I blew
it so do you already you already you're
you're taking an intermittent break from
your intermittent fast well I was doing
really good I was doing like 12 to 8 12

(24:08):
to 8 12 to 8 and then ever since uh
freaking Christmas and all that stuff
like the holiday stuff it just blew it
just messed up my schedule and then and
then like I keep uh breaking down when
there's like a nice treat like at
midnight like a m M's or something
so I'm gonna kick it back up on Monday
again look if if peanut M M's is your
thing I don't want to I don't wanna you

(24:30):
know cause you problems or anything yeah
oh
have you seen this what can you do a
little close-up of that
so this is available at Costco our
favorite Costco uh you know we're still
not sponsored yet yeah we're still
waiting for the sponsorship any minute
um so yeah it's the hoodies it's like a
trail mix but it's all chocolate and

(24:51):
peanut butter
so there's no redeeming nutritional
value in this at all because it sounds
delicious Reese's Pieces and chocolate
and peanut butter pretzels and chocolate
chips and peanut like there's no there's
no fruit there's no nothing but um but
yeah so you should you should try it out
if you like the peanut M Ms can I tell
you a story that has nothing to do with

(25:12):
prepping but do you want any of our
stories have anything to do with
prepping sure evidently we bring an
audience yeah exactly I'm glad you're
all sitting down to watch our show
because you're probably shocked by this
all right so I used to I used to work at
a place I used to work at Intel because
I do computer stuff during the day and I
was as a young young you know

(25:33):
whipper snapper yeah the Elder Statesman
there uh I'll leave his name out we'll
call him uh we'll call him Tim okay
anyway he he was big into he was like a
total computer nerd and wore a fanny
pack he had a fanny pack and it was
filled with peanut M M's and you just
ate peanut M M's all day long so but he

(25:53):
also uh so he just kind of smelled like
peanut M M's for the most part
throughout the day and he was he's kind
of a kooky guy but uh the gross thing is
that he also had gone again how it is
that in the middle of the night when you
have a snack you think about Tim well so
he also had a flatulence problem like
uncontrollable he had some kind of

(26:15):
problem with it and so he
so he would uh just let him rip in off
as we're talking like a face-to-face
while he's eating peated M M's and it
got me so gross and it uh it was really
bad it was horrible and I couldn't eat
peanut M M's for like five years because
I had this Trauma from

(26:35):
Tim uh with the fanny pack and the
peanut evidence and the farting and it
was it was so disgusting uh but now I've
gotten over that it took a while though
it took like half a decade so but anyway
whenever I see enough as I think about
that now I'm glad you've been able to
push past the trauma yeah um it had
something to do with prepping because he
had a fanny pack so that's that's

(26:56):
peanut products are always good for
protein and M M's were developed by the
military had to leave yeah and I think
if that story is true and the good in
MREs I think and I I do have some trail
mix in uh the vehicles too so that's see
how it all kind of rolls together it all
rolls together also don't eat them if

(27:16):
you're allergic to peanuts yeah I'm just
saying that's not a good thing
um yeah Bernie makes an excellent point
uh tup is gigantic yeah he is he is
almost as tall as he has followers I
mean that's it was shocking I was I was
expecting you know I'm about six feet I
was expecting similarly and I was like

(27:38):
this just huge human being comes
wandering in I'm the I'm the chef yeah
exactly it was the top entry music from
the from the YouTube it was like
[Music]
foreign
's talking about Han Solo I have my Han
Solo vest on for the Patagonia Han Solo

(27:58):
vest yeah well I mean yeah of course
I've been cold lately so like so because
I could just go normal business attire
but the Han Solo vest just brings it all
in the
more preppery yeah it makes it more like
you might be going on a hike you might
be you know you might have something in
the pockets you never you don't know
what's happening so I like that that's

(28:18):
fantastic yeah that's excellent
um let's see
um yes Bernie is very excited that we
have a hundred percent hit our poop
jokes we got that in there that's
fantastic
um
yeah Amy uh was the fanny pack full of
peanut M Ms it was apparently yes which
is remarkable now were they were they

(28:40):
peanut MMS in packages so he had like
two or three packages like a Ziploc bag
inside the fanny pack and that he would
fill every day so it was always filled
with peanut M M's and you had the man
not heard of a candy jar oh yeah
he won a quick access it was like his
EDC was uh

(29:01):
for those times you just can't wait for
the peanut Eminem it's really it's it's
actually kind of a sad ending not to be
a downer but uh but he ended up passing
away from uh from like the uh the
allergicness to peanuts well no you just
the farting issue was like an underlying
issue for something else and so like he

(29:22):
he passed gas to death that's that's the
story you're going for okay it's a true
story yeah and so like I had a my it was
really odd because I was again I was a
young whippersnapper and one of my car
I'm like Hey where's where's Tim and oh
he's not coming back I'm like oh is he
not feeling well oh no he's not coming
back ever and so uh he's like ever yeah

(29:43):
it's something something horrible
happened I feel real bad uh he but he I
guess he had like 48 hours to live type
thing so I gave him a call at that time
and you know I don't know what do you
say to someone like that and he he was
big into us actually uh uh I think he'd
be proud of probably not able to talk he
was chewing on all the peanut M M's that
he had his fanny pack yeah he was really

(30:04):
like you know it was uh it was we had a
real good conversation he was actually
kind of uh now that I'd never thought
about it before but he was going to be
some introductory into preparedness kind
of mindset because he was big into a
tsunami kit and he he and I've seen some
of the stuff now where he this is back
like in the late 90s where he wanted to
have a like a a sphere like an

(30:25):
inflatable sphere that could be put in
homes that people could sit in their
chair and have oxygen and he would go to
these conventions and Pitch this thing
and I've seen this thing now years later
at I've seen websites and stuff where
they have a tsunami survival kit thing
Tim was the one that first told me about
that in the late 90s and he just was he
just said he hopes that someone will
take his design and use that to save

(30:46):
people and ah that was like one of the
last that's like what was the last
conversation that we had and I said
thanks for all the all this help and it
was nice
uh all the you know working with you and
then like the next day like then he was
that was that was the last hurray so but
so sorry to start a doom zoom in on yeah

(31:07):
exactly
we had it we were on an outfit I mean he
just had to be like oh and then by the
way
he died what the heck come on man
sorry about that and all right it's all
because we're talking about Peter yeah
we're gonna bring it up so yes peanut M
M's were M M's we're patented by the
military in 1941 according to Dr Dave

(31:28):
um I had heard that
um but it's one of those things you hear
it enough and you're like okay that's an
interesting story it seems very true but
nowadays you're like but was it true or
what so okay I'm glad to know that that
was because they didn't melt in the uh
yeah in the MREs index yeah um yeah I
never knew that actually because they do

(31:49):
have Skittles in there too and those
don't melt that also yeah
so sufu uh is looking for a gear review
he's like I came to the prepping podcast
I was told there would be Gear reviews
yeah we have none so I'm always ready
for my I'm almost ready for my uh a
knife review from one from from Ben
banter's uh I've been testing it out for

(32:09):
a couple months now and I did you find
it
I found it I didn't remember how I told
you I lost it
I finally got it and uh to be I think I
blamed it on my son at the time it was
really my fault
it wasn't some pants that I forgot that
it was in so yeah we're gonna pretend
like we are surprised that it was not
your fault and that you just blamed your

(32:30):
shot yeah like racist footage
yeah no that's that's fantastic so what
do we think high level I know you're
doing a whole review can he give us like
a hey I really like it hey I don't
um it's it's a smallest it's the
smallest folding knife that I've had I
like uh I like the scales I usually
prefer like blue or something like very

(32:51):
friendly looking uh nice just because
it's like an office setting it's less
than I don't know it's less intimidating
uh really nice really nice design uh
it's probably legal in most like cities
because of the the blade length which is
really nice uh it kind of has that the
blade the blade shape is that that's
like my preferred uh you know style of
knife it's just a little on the small
side but I've gotten kind of used to it

(33:12):
and I like that it's again I'm always
trying to avoid the dreaded prepper Bowl
and so having less indents in the pants
is always a good thing so yeah I'm gonna
do a review of it but yeah it's been my
EDC since I found it after my son lost
it
yeah now does does Ben is it available
on it should be available tonight

(33:32):
it's a week it's made by we uh
let's see or uh it's made by we I
thought it was made by his Knife Company
oh wait sorry it is right it's uh yeah
the nafs nafs yeah it's nothing and if
you're watching this if you would like a
knife I'll fine-tune the review I'll
find out who actually knows like who you
are and what your thing is feel free to

(33:54):
let me know I would be more than happy
to review your thing tough apparently so
many things you know well I don't I
don't look at the packaging after it's
like yeah or the people or anything like
that it's totally like under it's like
underwear you know you throw away the
packaging
oh it's just this new knife that Ben's
been working on
yeah but uh then then it's it's on the

(34:16):
way so uh yeah working on b-roll footage
all right so yeah so check on check out
Ben's Ben's thing we like Ben Ben the
friend of the show
um so my thing I'm gonna talk about is
uh I guess the this Nebo micro Flash
very cool
this is my uh my office keychain so we

(34:38):
had the vote and the Batman
the Batman Lego
won the uh won the keychain Wars so uh
so he's there we still have the hot dog
man and we still have a spider pig we
didn't throw them away or anything but
they're just doing keys for other things
um but because I sometimes come out at

(35:00):
night or whatever we're adding some
lights to the yard but it can be a
little dark and slippery on the steps so
I added this
um
little flashlight thing uh it's the Nebo
micro I was using the Streamlight
um the little tiny stream lights
um and I can't remember their name if
you go to the channel or you go to my

(35:20):
site or whatever I've got those other
things
um
but this is very cool because it
actually it's a little bit thicker you
can put like two of the little stream
lights next to each other
um but it's got a bunch of different uh
it actually will dim uh I don't know if
this will work if you'll be able to see
it but so you can actually do like

(35:41):
varying degrees of of light and dark and
then it's got a green light and a red
light oh on it and then you drink some
some burglaries to come in here exactly
if you just don't want it to be super
bright but it's also got this this red n
button which is let me see if it'll if
it'll work alarm no it's super bright

(36:03):
it's turbo oh
so yeah a dedicated turbo it's like a
dedicated turbo button so you can use
like the regular one or you can use the
turbo oh it's it's crazy but yeah so I I
really like um um they're a little what
kind of batteries is it good question
um I don't know

(36:24):
um is it USB hold on oh yeah it's uh
rechargeable it's USB
USB micro or C USB micro it's microwave
yeah it's not USBC I know I know we're
moving I gotta carry the micro cable
exactly but let's be honest like you
probably already got a micro cable like

(36:45):
I anyway somewhere like everything
unless you got it in the last like six
months everything worked on USB micro
like there's very few things other than
like that are recent that are on USBC so
you're gonna have a lightning cable
you're gonna have a micro and you're
gonna have a USBC yeah um at least I
think you will you might not you're
tough one you might just have all kinds

(37:07):
of magic I'm trying to switch all of
them to USB SC but uh but yeah so I have
a few things that still are on micro so
yeah
um but yeah I got it for my I got one
for myself for my keychain and I got one
for my wife she does not like the
thickness of this keychain um over the
flashlight it's too big for her keys and

(37:27):
her purse
um so she is with the little Streamlight
which is still plenty bright but it just
doesn't have all the cool features and
so then I took it and I put it on my
keychain for for walking down in my
office yes I've been using the the
Olight uh arcfeld is what it's called I
think and it's like a oh can you see it
okay it's it's again it's kind of like a
rectangular it's not I know I'm used to

(37:48):
uh cylinder type flashlights but uh this
one's been kind of cool I still don't
know if I like the whole idea of having
a laser pointer but I kind of I've never
rocked a laser pointer for EDC
flashlight so
yeah it's it's more of a floody type
light uh but it's been pretty cool so
far I've been happy with it but yeah you
have your laser pointer here so just in
case you want to do a PowerPoint

(38:08):
presentation really quick you know now
now Pony girl it did say that we could
use the red and the green for
communication which is a fantastic idea
I like that idea very much I always
thought it's for like uh you know like
spies and like burglars to help protect
their night vision and they use the red
one to as they're breaking into places

(38:29):
yeah so
so go to red or green like you have to
cycle through uh which is probably what
you're doing burglar burglary stuff
that's how I use it
uh oh you know it all makes friends now
is now there you go it all makes sense

(38:49):
exactly we needed content for our show
so I was like you know what I'll do okay
the one that took the knife originally
yeah you might have taken the knife and
hit it using the red light actually what
I did is I sent your son some Legos to
to bribe him to take the knife and hide
it from you and then put it in your

(39:10):
pants I gave him very specific
instructions it's funny because my son
has talked to a lot of like the YouTube
prepper people and stuff and the one
that he's most impressed with is you
because uh of your Lego prowess because
I am a small child is basically what it
is
kind of a big deal the to the Lego
communities the Lego yeah the Lego

(39:30):
Preppers yeah that's what yeah that's
what he all he got for Christmas or all
he wanted was various Lego type things
and he uh and shelves so he wants a
shelf like you and he wants to display
his Lego steps yeah I kind of a big deal
I I I you know I'm very proud of him
he's doing excellent jobs he's kind of a
Padawan free learner for you yeah are
you planning on solar lights for the

(39:51):
office that is a fantastic question Amy
thank you so much do that I'd love to
tell you
um
I love it Leaf Myers so much I love her
so much that's funny
um so I had planned originally to do
solar panels on the roof and I actually
have enough solar power to power the

(40:12):
whole thing
um the problem that I ran into was
um part of the calculation of that was
the tax credits and everything else to
make it affordable to do it and if you
do it on that you can only do it on one
project so at some point we would like
to do it to our house and we aren't
going to need a much larger array in
investment and everything for that so to

(40:33):
do it on the roof here was going to eat
that up and it didn't really work
um so instead what we did
um there's also a lot of additional
electrical in here because we also have
the gas uh generator that's the whole
house back up for just our house in
general in case there's a blackout or

(40:54):
something so dealing with all of the
relays and the shutoffs to make the
solar work with the generator and the
shutoffs and everything else it became
um a bit problematic
um we did run conduit and stuff so that
if we decided to do it in the future we
can do it
um but what I'm thinking about doing is

(41:14):
adding some hooks to the front of the
office so that I could hang some
flexible solar panels
um like some 200 or 300 watt solar
panels and then
um and then hook into some sort of a
battery backup of some sort
um that's I think the new plan
um I would love to do solar we just got

(41:35):
the the gutter installed um to do some
rain catchment
um which I'm not 100 sure what I'm gonna
do with the rain that I catch when I
catch it but I feel like it's a thing we
should totally do
um so I I've got the gutter in and I
know which
um barrels we're gonna get
um so yeah so we're we are making some

(41:55):
progress but but solar lights have not
um happened although it could do solar
like path lights or something like that
that's a possibility yeah
I like the the little I don't have a big
solar at the house but as far as like
the path lights I think those are good
for blackouts too because then you could
use those during that scenario as kind
of uh candles yeah I thought
I saw the video about it one time yeah

(42:16):
he was like at Costco and he was like
hey you should do this and so then I
went to Costco and then I made a video
and found them and was like Hey so I saw
this guy make a video about you and you
should do it
too
um more people watch your video than
like I'm just okay
I haven't looked at the stats so that's
okay they're always bigger for yours
they're always they're always by by

(42:39):
several uh magnitude levels they are
always better yeah
um
yes we need all kinds of peppers even
the Lego prepper is 100 yeah um Lego
Preppers unite that is our that is our
thing
um
I'm starting to hear rumbling oh is it
rumbling if I get swatted you you'll

(43:01):
know what happens that's okay we we
figured that it was it was a matter of
time
um
I don't know if you can hear it on the
mic
um yeah many solar lights from Amazon so
yeah I think I think there will be some
of that I'll try to figure out where to
kind of incorporate that in

(43:22):
um in the actual office itself like I've
got LEDs and a whole lighting situation
um is the only way you can describe it
because I went super overkill on lights
and outlets and everything else
um but yeah something solar there needs
to be something solar in this project or
I will feel like it's lacking

(43:43):
I forgot to tell you that a couple this
is a couple weeks ago some we've been
having problems on our street with
people stealing cars and crashing to
power lines and so it happened again a
couple weeks ago do they have Legos in
their pockets because that might just be
for concert yeah it was like wearing
like a green hoodie and it said like
something Preppers exactly yeah anyway
so someone stole a vehicle crashed it

(44:05):
into the power line it knocked out all
the power on the neighborhood but I had
some uh my a lot of the light bulbs that
I have outside are like the rechargeable
light bulbs that you they turn on like
even on a power outage type thing so all
the neighbors were like hey Cliff how's
your how's all your lights working
some proper stuff yeah you should

(44:25):
subscribe to my YouTube channel along
with the seven million other people who
think that I'm pretty awesome like that
would be I may or may not be good at
this thing you should probably you know
show up yeah but it's yeah anytime
there's uh we've had someone crash into
a power line it's a good opportunity to
test out some prep so yeah
which which battery backup system are

(44:47):
you currently running
for just like General like small type
stuff yeah there's a blackout because I
know you don't have you don't have like
a whole house system yeah I have we have
more than a phone charger yeah less than
a whole we do the I have the energy
Kodiak for for a couple of the fish
tanks I also use the jackery uh but
usually now nowadays like we and it's

(45:09):
it's not for uh it's mainly for our fish
tanks because my wife's really worried
that the fish are going to die during a
blackouts a week so it's usually just to
get us by until I could get the
generator going and stuff and so then we
have the generator uh running all the
all the fish tanks so that's we don't
really use it for anything also
um yeah because I had seen like it seems
like every year the all of those things

(45:32):
they step up a lot yeah it was 400 watts
last year this year is 500 watts or 600
watts
um so I was just curious because I we
have some goal zeros that are I think
300 or 400 watts or whatever and I'm
thinking about okay it's maybe time to
step those up yeah have one for I have
one for the cpaps and stuff because

(45:52):
we've been using ski fast because
they're really sexy but uh they're
amazing they're amazing and then I have
one for the free kids entertainment
because like during the blackout they
they want to be entertained so I have
one where they can we they could run a
small little TV and they could play
Nintendo and we could they could power
that and play that for for a while so
that's
that's we've got a little set up for

(46:13):
that
um so yes uh Optimus Prime on your shelf
100 yes
um I I don't have you tell the kids I
also have Voltron but he's on the other
side of the thing so you can't really
see that
um but yeah I used to have an Optimus
Prime in the box that it was my most
precious valuable possession and kid

(46:35):
prepper when he was a baby somehow got a
hold of it opened it up and was playing
with Optimus Prime kid prepper can't go
to college now because his college fund
is now you know so it was uh and then
now that Optimus Prime is just part of
the other toys but yeah yeah it's kind
of a touchy subject yeah understandable

(46:56):
understandable there was a we had when I
got the Death Star originally
um my son uh dropped the black C-3PO uh
down the um floor great
um and it's it's one of the the pieces
that you can only get in that set and
you have to so it was a whole we learned
very much he learned a very valuable

(47:16):
lesson about you know we don't play with
the Lego figures outside or anything
like that
um yeah Voltron Force is fantastic I
have Voltron like as a Funko up there
but nice the Legos are over
um let's see there was uh never have
enough Outlets a hundred percent you can

(47:37):
never have enough Outlets
um I I actually in my office I put like
we originally I think scoped for like
six outlets and I think I ended up with
like 17 or something like that
um because why not
um yeah you can't have too many outlets
um Bernie mentioned something
um he has text messaging again he has he

(48:00):
finally got it come back to 1995 and he
had text messaging again Bernie was like
grandfathered into some cell plan from
like 2003 or something they didn't have
text messages it was like really cheap
but yeah and I was like the burning man
when you can get text message good oh
sorry you're gonna have to email it so I
something
yeah was it like Morris code like what

(48:22):
phone did you have to take advantage of
that planet
some kind of flip phone I remember back
in the day before text message they we
all had pagers and then so we would page
like like we would do the the number pad
and we'd have to decipher what that
message was like exactly yeah so it's a
little cryptography type stuff it was
pretty yeah that was that was how we all

(48:44):
started it was with the pager codes and
then now you know we have YouTube
channels yeah and that's what I think it
used to be back did it like they were
charging per text message or all this
kind of stuff like 10 cents a text or
yeah we finally got rid of that it was
also like that's what that's the plan
that Bernie's on I think he's yeah
exactly and it was 30

(49:05):
yeah it was crazy
um well Bernie welcome to I don't know
an unlimited plan or something like
welcome to 2023 yeah yeah exactly you're
here now Bernie
[Laughter]
um okay we got okay yeah if we need if
you put as many outlets you don't even
need paint or wallpaper
100 true we we did go through that that

(49:27):
exercise how exactly are we going to
paint with all these all of these things
um oh Bernie has a clarification
uh I had an unlimited international data
plan which is great because uh Bernie I
don't know but I think you live in
Oregon so it's not it's not its own
country yet I mean some people have
tried but not yet
um that they wanted me off of so they

(49:48):
upped my text message rate to get me off
of it wow
um Bernie here's an idea I'm just gonna
throw it out there
some sort of a unlimited data plan and
then you can just use
Wi-Fi and send messages and you don't
even need international data I don't
I'm do you travel internationally a lot

(50:10):
Bernie he's kind of like another Pablo
Escobar of the preparers Community yeah
is it possible that you just got like
that phone and that plan and get a
different phone for like domestic
calling I don't I'm very confused but
you know it wouldn't be issue
the big old school ones
he's got one of those military field

(50:32):
ones yes it's a backpack or it's like a
car phone yeah exactly
hold on I have to go get my Cadillac
with the cell phone in it I'll be right
back and then and then he can make
things
um okay so he was traveling
internationally
um and so he used Google okay that seems
okay like a reasonable excuse uh we'll

(50:55):
we'll let that go we'll let that we'll
let that I'm glad that he got that text
though so that's good yeah all right so
I feel like you're about to get pulled
any minute we've been going for about an
hour uh I feel like we've we've hit the
we've hit the the end of topics
um and so I think we wrap it up for
tonight so it's always fun doing a
Friday a Friday show every once in a
while I kind of like it yeah yeah

(51:18):
I think we never went off for the
weekend yeah yeah like I think maybe
2023 we'll do some Friday shows
we'll do some uh some guest stars yeah a
little Sunday morning brunch show or I
don't know yeah
Bernie you said I needed a text tup to
get your information your Instagram just
DM me on Instagram you you like we can

(51:41):
do that that's a thing
um that will just shortcut the whole the
whole thing or Discord we're on tops
Discord send me a message there
um top does not need to be the
intermediary of contact information
um although if that's the case then I'll
just text him and he'll probably tell me
anyway
um so anyway so
um no more no more dumping on this week

(52:03):
we're not dumping on this sweet man we
enjoy him very much
um we can't we can't tell him that
because he doesn't have text messaging
but like we we enjoy him very very much
um
oh I'm sorry Bernie I thought it was a
text message
oops

I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before.
