Did you know there is a difference between listening and hearing? There absolutely is. Many times, we are just hearing the world and people around us. We don’t really listen. Effective communication is where there is an understanding. But when we are only hearing someone, we are not seeking an understanding because we can only do that when we listen intently.
I have the honor of teaching some of the most amazing students around. For the past few years, I have taught business communication, and this is one of our hot topics. My students are always amazed and quickly realize that most of the time they are just hearing. What I love is from that point of revelation, they begin to change and start truly listening. The more intently we listen the better we learn!
Listeners are some of the highest paid people on the planet. Just look at therapist for an example. They are paid to truly listen to us. Myself as a coach, consultant, and teacher, must truly listen to have a better understanding of my client and my students’ needs. Relationships are important and truly listening to those we have relationships with, and others is mission critical to living the empowered life and to be an empowered entrepreneur.
