He ended up having a cool littlecustom made website that he developed.
(00:21):
Has a nice little click toenter button with his date.
He's married, has some cute kids.
End up going to Mount Royal University.
Loves basketball, woodworking, hiking.
And he is got a really large followingon social media, which is excellent.
So do check out his Twitterand other platforms.
And without further ado,I'll pass it on to na.
Thanks, Jesse.
Thanks for the intro.
(00:42):
Just to clarify, Iwasn't born 13 years ago.
I wish I was, but I guessI wouldn't know so much.
Nat Miletic (00:50):
Excellent.
All right.
Yeah, so today we're gonna talk abouthow to boost your SEO results with ai.
Thanks for inviting me, Jesse.
Glad, glad to be here.
And I'm glad that you're recordingso we can share this with some folks.
There's been a lot ofdiscussion around ai.
Is it good for seo?
Is it bad?
Should you use it?
And so forth.
So I think we'll talk about, how to use it, how to use it
(01:12):
properly, and h and how it can beused to amplify your SEO results.
As Jesse mentioned, youcan find me on Twitter.
That's my Twitter handle right there.
@natmiletic.
Also check out my website,https://cliowebsites.com.
We have a lot of great articles on seo,WordPress, web development, and so forth.
(01:37):
All right, so AI for SEO in 2023.
So there's been a lot of chatterabout SEO in the last couple years.
I think it's been amplified by,the rise of open AI and chat G P T.
It's opened the doorsfor a lot of people that.
Typically don't work with AI or haven'tworked with these tools in the past
(01:58):
and are starting to use it for variousvarious things, various day-to-day things.
I think the, the cool thing about AIis that, and some of these tools that
are coming up is that they're very.
Easy to use.
They're easy to sign up for.
They're easy to utilize and figureout on your own, even for non-techies.
(02:20):
So I think it has a greatmomentum for a reason and it's
definitely gonna change the way we.
Do things in the future, notjust with for s for seo, but
also for all kinds of industries.
Actually, it's impactingthings quite a bit.
The difference between, AI and some ofthe other kind of newer technologies
that were coming down the pipe like webthree and crypto and things like that,
(02:42):
that have taken a backseat a little bit.
Is that, ai, you can see theclear sort of utility right away.
You can jump in, start using it, andyou can, see the benefits immediately
with crypto and things like that.
It's a little bit harderto figure that stuff out.
It's harder to utilize and so it's, theutility just isn't there as much as the,
(03:03):
these AI technologies, and I think that'swhy AI is just gonna keep gaining momentum
and keep changing things in the future.
So it's definitely taken thewor, taken the world by storm.
I think.
It's here to stay.
It's definitely not a fad.
Learn how to use it properly and learnhow to use it to enhance what you do.
What does AI have to do withSEO and web development?
(03:26):
There's quite a bit.
So we've seen a huge rise in tools andframeworks that are built on top of ai.
A lot of them are built on, open AItechnology and chat G P T for example.
But there are other tools thatuse different technologies as well
in order to you know to assistwith web development and seo.
(03:48):
So a few examples that of thingsthat you can do, for example, that
people have been using it for.
Is image generation.
So you can generate images on thefly based on, like just putting
in some text parameters, toolslike Mid Journey, for example.
And similar RA an Open AI has their ownversion of that as well, where you can
(04:10):
just enter in a prompt and you can get, a.
An image created from scratchthat is totally unique.
Totally unique air quotescontent generation.
You can use it to generate content, you can use it to automate things.
You can use it to generatecode or test code.
So this is important bothSEO and web development.
(04:33):
You can use it for automatedtesting or to identify issues,
with websites or your SEO strategy.
And even fully build AI websites.
So some there are some tools thatI've played around with recently that,
you can put in a prompt basically, and it can, create a website.
Actually chat.
G p t can also do that.
With some creative prompting you cancreate a full blown website as well.
(04:58):
You can create website layoutsusing mid Journey, for example,
and the list goes on and on.
I find that there, there are quite afew applications and solutions that
are coming down the pipe and that arecoming on in the last little while.
And it's hard to keep up.
There it seems to be, there'slike a tool for everything these
days for when it comes to ai.
(05:21):
Sure.
I was trying to figure out how tothere you change the dual holes.
So there we go.
I may have to reshareyour screen That's right.
Oh sure.
Sure.
No worries.
There you go.
You can see that again.
Perfect.
Yeah.
Great.
Awesome.
(05:43):
All right.
So by harnessing AI and astounding,45% of web development tasks
have been automated as of 2023.
So 45% of things that webdevelopers used to do can now be
done with ai and that's crazy.
So it's a crazy.
Stat.
So it's not definitely not just atool, it's a revolutionary thing
(06:06):
that's happening in our industryand not just in our industry, but
generally speaking in all industries.
I think AI's gonna touch this.
That touch our lives in manyways and impact the way we're
doing things in the future.
Yeah, it's definitely here to stay.
And by the way that quote was created bychat G p t as well, so pretty amazing.
So I don't know if it'strue, don't quote me on it.
(06:31):
So how can AI help with seo?
I think, the biggest thing I wouldlike to emphasize is that, instead
of looking at AI as a threat, lookat it as a tool in your arsenal.
It's not like a tool to replace X or Y.
I saw a tweet today, actuallyyesterday from a guy that says,
oh, fire your seo, company.
(06:53):
You've got ai, now it can do everything.
And then he went on about, likecontent generation as if SEO is
only about content generation.
So sure seo content canbe created with AI tools.
However it it's gonna be missingthat personal touch, and I
don't recommend going aboutcreating content in that fashion.
(07:14):
And also, there's way more to SEOthan just content creation, right?
Or image generation or whatever.
There's a lot of strategyinvolved planning and different
things that are required insteadof just content generation.
I've seen similar comments aboutweb developers or any other
profession that you can think of.
(07:34):
But, I wouldn't think of it that way.
I, from, in my per personal opinion,I think AI is gonna be used as a
tool for people to, enhance theway we're doing things and to make
us a little bit more efficient.
So the future doesn't belong to to ai.
It belongs to, people whouse the AI tools effectively.
So it's not AI versus humans.
(07:56):
It's more like humans usingAI versus humans that don't.
So that's my personal take on it.
And but it can definitely help youwith the SEO and it can help you with
not just seo, but a lot of o otherthings as well business management and
and a lot of other aspects as well.
(08:20):
in the next few slides here, Jesse, whatI'll do is I'm gonna go through some of
the tips that I've used in order to useAI tools in order to improve SEO results.
Great.
So there, there are a ton of cooland interesting SEO AI use cases.
I've, I generated a list ofabout like 30 or 40 different
(08:42):
ones that that I could think of.
But, I wanted to keep this fairlybrief and wanted people to do
their own exploration as well.
SEO is a tricky subject because itreally depends on the project, so no.
One SEO project is thesame as another one.
There are some fundamentalthings like, generating content,
promoting content, doing technicalSEO and fixing issues, but.
(09:06):
Every company and every websiteis at a different point in their
journey when it comes to seo.
I wanted to distill these andtalk about my top five most
useful things that I would say.
And those are content ideationand generation keyword
research, content rewriting.
Add copy creation andchat bot implementation.
(09:31):
I'll sprinkle in some other ones as well.
I think where AI is lackinga little bit today is some
of the auditing capabilities.
So SEO audits, forexample, technical audits.
But that's gonna changeas well because now that.
Chat.
G P t, for example, has releasedthe web crawling module,
(09:51):
so now it's able to crawl.
Websites as well.
If you have a premium version they'vejust rolled that out a few days ago,
it, that's, that might change as well.
So we'll be able to crawl a website andprobably do a better job of assessing
like the internals and giving you someexamples of what you can do on a technical
front But for now it's not there yet.
(10:11):
I think some of the other SEO toolslike auditing and technical audit SEO
tools are a little bit better at that.
So I left that out.
So I'll talk to these five and talk to youabout how we've used them and how you can
use them to improve your S C o results.
So the first use case isaround content creation.
(10:31):
So we all know in the world ofseo you need a lot of content.
When we started working on this stuff,Jesse and I were gonna date ourselves
back in the early two thousands.
Like I.
You could technically, rank a sitethat's, two or three pages long.
And actually a lot of pages didn't, alot of websites didn't have a lot of
content in those days, and those likebrochure type websites with everything
(10:55):
on one page were pretty popular.
And so times were different.
I think now with.
Doing seo today, you do need a lot ofcontent in order to b build up that kind
of context around your business and whatyour business and your website is about.
So this is where these AI tools shinethey can really help you accelerate
(11:19):
your content creation u using the toolsWhen I say, content creation, I don't
mean, giving chat G p t a prompt or oneof these tools there's quite a few now.
Giving it a prompt and copying and pastingthat into your blog or onto your website
what I mean is, generating ideas interms of, what type of content you need.
(11:39):
Pinpointing once you do identifythe type of content that you need,
getting a general layout, gettingsome ideas about the content, and
then writing the content yourself.
Sure, you can use AI tools in orderto generate snippets such as stats
or certain, portions maybe of thecontent that you're creating for the
website, but, I still feel like inorder to make it unique and in order
(12:02):
to make it resonate with your audienceyou're gonna have to have your kind
of personal voice and personal touch.
AI tools are great for content generation.
I've played with quite a few.
My favorite still chat, G p T,just because it's easy to use
and people can use it for free.
There are some other ones as well.
I've used cohesive for exampleas well, which is really good.
(12:22):
It's called Cohesive ai.
And They allow you to generate long formcontent as well and things like that.
But again one caution I would sayis don't use it to Generate a full,
article and just copy and paste it.
Don't be lazy.
Do some work, make it more personal, and make sure that you're using
this again as a tool to assist youin your writing instead of a tool
(12:45):
to, just plagiarize basically.
Yeah, I mentioned about chatGPTs probably my favorite.
And yeah AI tools can helpyou use can help you create an
outline for long form content.
It can help you create a content plan.
It can help you also create relevantcontent based on your topics, so you
(13:05):
can say, based on this and this niche.
So for example, for me, basedon a web development agency,
I'm trying to create content forWordPress maintenance, for example.
And, what would be some of the topics thatI can talk about in order to build up that
context for my web development company.
(13:27):
So if you give it context like thatit'll be able to give you better ideas.
And then you can use that to drillin further, pick a topic, drill in,
and use it to generate more ideas.
But so it's great for that andit's probably our number one use
case when it comes to ai for seo.
How about you, Jesse?
(13:47):
Is this what you found aswell in terms of use cases?
Is this your top one or?
Yeah.
I think helping with emails likebasically drip email structure or
basically content creating table contents.
So another, especially choppy tv, Chattb t basically using it to actually
develop the table of contents and thenhaving it generate content breach of
(14:09):
the different items in the typical ofcontents, I found is a great tip thing.
It's actually structurally cracked andhave adding a conclusion at the very end.
It, it can actually create a greatframework for a lot of the different
articles and then naturally you do.
And as clearly it's not always correctin the context of being accurate.
And so updating the content is keyto make sure that the content is
(14:30):
accurate, going through and addingdifferent high domain rating sites
I think is also important where Ifind that it doesn't add references.
And then naturally the internal linking.
I think it'll be interesting tosee as chat TT is able to scan
the content on your websites.
Adding that internal linkingis also so fundamental.
(14:51):
It'll be interesting to see if we canadd prompts to add that as well, but
yeah it's amazing for content for sure.
Yeah.
Amazing.
Amazing.
Yeah.
Thank you.
It's clustering too.
Keywords and things like that.
You can use it problem saving.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah you just it's like you werereading ahead some of the popular
that, that's definitely our usecase number two, keyword research.
(15:12):
So the thing about, chat G P T,obviously it's a language model it's
almost kind, it's almost better at,generating keyword ideas than some of the
other keyword, keyword tools out therethat are specific to seo because it.
It understands, obviously, therelevancy of certain words and how
(15:33):
that's built into the language models.
So it's great for things likekeyword research, topic relevance,
clustering, creating clusters aroundcertain keywords and certain topics.
It's great for that and I'veactually used it in that capacity.
So it's good to give an example again for.
For a web design agency for example, you can say, what are the main
(15:56):
topic clusters that I should haveon web development agency website?
And it'll break that down.
It'll say, you need to talkabout your services, you need to
talk about for example, websitemaintenance, this and that, and it'll.
Give you a bunch of different topicsthat you should have on your website,
and that kind of helps you when youdo break those down and create some
(16:16):
content around those clusters andyou organize them in a way that these
models organize them, then you know, ithelps Google and other search engines
understand what your website is about.
So you need that content inorder to, for Google to figure
out that this website is about.
Web design and web.
This is a web design company website.
(16:39):
And that's tough sometimesfor people to do.
Naturally what I found especiallywith like small business websites
where they don't necessarily havelike a marketing team or whatever.
What they'll do is they'llblog a lot of personal stuff.
Oh, the weather today is greatin Calgary and I'm gonna go for
a walk or something like that.
That just like confuses Googlecuz it's is it a general blog?
(16:59):
Is this like a lifestyle kind ofbusiness or is it something else?
It's really hard for Google to figureout what your website is about if you're
blogging about random topics, so youdo wanna pick a niche and focus on
that when it comes to content creation.
AI tools are great for that.
It can help you identify thedifferent topics that you should have.
It can help you, break those downinto different subtopics and so forth.
(17:23):
So you can do it for, you can use it fora lot of planning around keyword research.
And now with the, addition of the webcrawling as well, what I've used it
for is, I've said analyze this websiteand see if the structure is correct,
for example, and if everything'sorganized neatly and stuff and it'll
actually crawl the website and dothat and give you some tips and stuff.
(17:43):
So it's really good in terms of keywordsuggestions as well, so it can help
you identify keywords that you knoware relevant to your audience as well.
And and help you identify ones thatare, gonna bring in visitors that
are gonna satisfy search intent.
That, that's another key one.
Again, these language models arereally good at figuring that out.
(18:04):
Even better, at, even better than some ofthe SEO tools that are out there today.
So this is a really interesting anduseful use case, I think for AI tools
and something that you should use it for.
Definitely.
This one's kind of interesting andit's, similar to similar to the first
one but it is slightly different andI think this is probably the most.
(18:28):
To me, it's like the most mind blowingthing that it can do because, you can
there's a lot of tools that can writecontent, but what these lang language
models are really good at is changingthe tone or changing the style in
which the content is right, written in.
You can, not only can the.
Clean up grammatical mistakesand spelling and stuff.
(18:49):
But you can use it to make thecontent more formal or make it
a little bit more easy to read.
For example, it can writeit in a certain tone.
There's been some interesting tweetsout there around write something
as Shakespeare would or written inthe King James Bible style and it's
pretty interesting, this is helpfuland, we've used this definitely for.
(19:13):
Client websites where we createwhere we need some content, for
example, like for service pagesor for about pages and stuff.
We always struggle with that whenwe're working with clients, is like
getting that content so that wecan, so that we don't have like a.
A blank page with the, with someimages and whatever, it's always
better to have a little bit moredescription about their services, what
(19:35):
the business is about, and so forth.
And use and, write it in a tone thatis applicable to their readers, right?
So that it's not overly formalor that it's not overly plateful,
that it's hits that mark whenit comes to how it should sound.
And We've used it for that purposequite a bit, and actually it's been
really helpful to speed things up whenwe're developing and working on new
(20:00):
projects with clients as we'll usefor both content writing and rewriting
as well into, into different tones.
The other thing of course is if you havewebsites that are in different languages
depending on what stack you're usingand what technology there are some.
For example, for WordPress, there's some translation
(20:20):
plugins that, are plug and play.
So they take care of the translation.
However, if you have a website whereyou might only have a few pages and
where you wanna do this manually, this is a great way to do it.
I think chat, G B T speaks likeall the spoken languages for sure.
And then all the programminglanguages as well.
So it's quite amazing actuallywhat it can translate.
(20:42):
If you do speak another language,it's interesting to test it out.
It's pretty slick.
It's not like the previous kindatranslation tools that we're
used to where they're clunky and.
Don't translate well.
This is really mind blowing at the scaleand at the accuracy that I can do it at.
Another great use case, especiallyif you have websites or projects that
(21:03):
you're working on that are in, multipleregions or serving a global audience.
Very interesting inuseful use cases as well.
Another really cool one has been for ushas been ad creation, ad copy creation.
So this is also a very cool way to usethese tools because for example, if
(21:24):
you're creating a Google Ads campaignand you're creating an ad it'll have some
parameters that you have to stick to.
For example, like the ad title canonly be 130 characters, let's say.
It's hard enough to come up with somethingcatchy, interesting and informative.
For a client that, you don't know too muchabout their industry for example, concrete
(21:46):
services or something like that, I don'tknow too much about concrete cutting.
So for me it's pretty tough to comeup with something like catchy when it
comes to, ad copy or titles or whatever.
And like Chad, g p t and these other toolscan really do such an amazing job here.
And the other thing, with it beinglike good at creating like catchy and
(22:07):
informative titles and descriptions isthat it can fit within those parameters.
So even if you are like supercreative, you can come up with a lot
of interesting taglines and stuff.
Sometimes it's oh, it's 145 characters.
What do I do now?
Another cool use case you can do isyou could take whatever you've come
up with and say, okay, rewrite this.
So it's only I.
130 characters and it, itspits it out in a second.
(22:30):
So there are a lot of differentrequirements in terms of depending on
the platform that you're working with.
So whether it's Google Ads, pixel, or someother social media platform that might
have their own parameters in terms of,length of the ad copy or something else.
This is where these tools arereally helpful because they can.
(22:51):
Rewrite things or reorganize thingsor fit within those parameters quite
quite efficiently and quite quickly.
This is a definitely another reallyuseful use case that we found and that
we use these tools for quite a bit.
So this is more in that PPC kind of realm.
Not so much organic s e o, but alsosomething that's s e o related as well.
(23:13):
And the last one, last but notleast is chatbot implementation.
So I was iffy about including thisbecause it's not necessarily SEO
related because, chatbots aren'tnecessarily gonna aim, improve your seo.
Score, having one, especiallylike the chatbots that we're used
to and that we've seen so far.
(23:34):
I think a lot of users are actually quitefrustrated with chatbots because for
the most part they're useless, right?
Like you go to a website, Yeah, a chat botopens up and you're like, yeah, you ask it
a question and it just sends you to a formor to an email or something like that.
And it's more like alead generation thing.
It's not very helpful.
So I think a lot of users typically don't,didn't interact with these in the past
(23:59):
because they haven't been as useful.
They've just been a funnelto get you to an email or to
a phone number or something.
That's changed significantly.
In terms of ever since some of theseAI tools have become more accessible
we w with with these tools, youcan you can ask at any questions.
It's pretty hard to make them stumble,or make them not have an answer.
(24:21):
Sure.
They'll like, Invent answers, that's another problem.
But they are really good atanswering questions and understanding
the context of the question.
In terms of for websites and for seo, what's I'm gonna include some tools
at the end of this as well that youcan check out, but this has come a
long way and not only can you createa implement the chat bot on your
(24:43):
website that answers generic questions.
There are some tools now that willfirst scan your entire website.
So they'll scan all of the content andlearn from the content on your website.
And then they will use that inorder to as context to answer
questions to a user query.
So how does that help?
(25:03):
Really help directly.
But from my, in my opinion it canincrease stickiness of your website
and decrease bounce rates which willhelp with that co because if somebody
lands on a page on your website, and they're not able to define the
answer to what they're looking for.
They can interact with the chat bot, they can get sent to another link
(25:27):
another resource on your website andcontinue to crawl, which will, help
with that stickiness and help withthat, like automatically exiting and
going to another result on the Googlepage, which we know is bad for seo.
So it's an indirect thing.
I just wanted to include this justbecause it's mind blowing in terms
of like how far these tools havecome when it comes to chatbots.
(25:47):
In the past, like I said, they werepretty much useless and people hated them.
But now with with some of these newAI tools it's totally different and
it's more contextually relevant to.
Your content and your service isnot not like a generic thing or a
thing that sends you directly toan email or something like that.
Definitely helpful and can help with seo.
(26:09):
So in terms of key takeaways, so I talkedabout five different use cases for seo
when it comes to AI and how you can useAI in order to enhance your SEO results.
I think, some of the key takeaways are, learn about these tools, learn about ai,
and how you can use it to enhance yourworkflow and to enhance your productivity.
(26:33):
I think that people that, professionalsthat aren't using ai, won't be able to
keep up for long because People that areusing AI tools are gonna just become much
more efficient and much faster at doingthings than people that aren't using them.
Get comfortable with them.
I would say, they're here to stay.
I don't think any of these, I don'tthink this is a fad that's gonna go
(26:53):
away just because of how impactfulit's been in such a short period of
time that people have been using these.
There are a ton of freeand paid tools available.
Some are more versatilethan others play around.
Like I said, all of these use cases thatI talked about today have different tools.
I think every time I check, likeI was doing some research for
(27:16):
something WordPress related tofind out how many AI plugins, for
example, are available for WordPress.
And I was shocked.
Like it was like, Pages and pages ofdifferent plugins and tools and things
that, open AI and their API has enabled.
So a lot of people are using that asa backbone of creating some really
cool and interesting products.
(27:37):
Do research, play around with someI've been using, I've used quite a few.
I my favorite still chat GPteaches because it's so easy
to use and it's versatile.
It gives you.
All of the things that thatwe talked about, you can,
pretty much do with Chad g p t.
So it's definitely my kind of takeawayin terms of one that's really useful
and something I would invest in,in a premium version if possible.
(28:02):
What does it all mean froma long-term perspective?
I think, like I said, thesetools are here to stay.
Get comfortable with them.
The only kind of like thought I wouldleave people with is in terms of, this
kind of mass scale of being able togenerate content quickly, like what is the
SEO landscape going to look like in thenext, five years or 10 years or whatever.
(28:25):
And also, what is the nature ofsearch engines going to look like?
Long term when, in some cases theuser experience from like a chat
G P T perspective is a lot betterthan going to Google, right?
Because you're you getan answer immediately.
It understands the context a littlebit better, and it's not sending
you to, crawl five or 10 differentwebsites to find your answer.
(28:47):
You get your answer immediately, eventhough sometimes it's made up, but
it's still a better user experience.
That's the last thing last thought I'dleave you with in terms of my favorite
AI tools for seo I'd mentioned I'veincluded a few that people can refer to.
Like I said, Chad Gpt is my favorite.
(29:08):
For a lot of different things.
A lot of, if you're using WordPresswe use WordPress quite extensively.
So there are a lot of thingshere that I've mentioned that
are WordPress related, like toolsand plugins and things like that.
They range from automation toolsto chat bots, to SEO tools.
A lot of the SEO plugins now, likeRank Matthews SEO Press all use ai.
(29:32):
In some capacity, either to auditcontent or to give you ideas and stuff.
So I think we're gonna seemore of that in the future.
But anyways, there's some coolones you could check out if
you haven't heard of them.
And I think that's it.
That's all I had for today, Jesse, unless you wanted to add something
related to this topic, that was great.
(29:52):
Did I miss anything?
I, there's, so it's such a wide gamutof different capabilities and certainly
one tool that we have been leveragingbasically for under, basically it's
an AI scraping tool, is writers anddefinitely suggest that if you're
writing a mass amount of content andhonestly the, brain Path is certainly
one that we leverage pretty heavily.
It's great.
(30:13):
Not sure being WordPressdevelopment side or agency as well.
I'm trying to think of any othersthat like pop, pop up, but.
Yeah, I think almost anything thatyou're doing right now can be, you can
leverage AI and the biggest thing is justtesting and testing because your point,
there's no one's coming out every day.
And so for me I'm getting a littleAI overload with the tools because
(30:35):
there's so many coming out.
You have to spend a lot of time.
And if you miss tools, they're they'redeveloping so quickly that, and they
help increase your productivity somuch that you don't wanna miss it.
So maybe just Totally, yeah.
It's like a shiny objectsyndrome too, right?
Like you can, instead ofdoing, like picking one.
Tool and getting good at it,it's easy to switch and try new
(30:56):
things if you like to tinker.
So yeah, my, my approach has always beenlike, pick one that does most of the
things and, learn it, learn how to doit properly and deeply and you'd be much
more successful than trying to u learneverything and use everything at once.
For sure.
Hey, thanks Jesse.
It's been a great for me great opportunityfor me to give this presentation and just
(31:19):

find me on Twitter if you wanna chat orif you wanna, if you have any questions.
