statement there's something about worshipping
god that just removes
that idolatry and that worship of man and
they try to mimic it replicate it but you

sometimes as worshippers sometimes as songwriters
we often can hold on to
something that's very dear to our heart thinking that
it's not complete yet now I think that as creatives
we can often hold on just a little bit too tight

I wanna use this series to go behind the scenes
for the project when God Sings
which is my first album that I'm releasing
in over a decade I cannot
believe it's been that long but
a lot of stuff has happened during that decade and
I'm excited about exploring for you and me

how did we enter the songwriting
process how did we enter the recording
process from a prophetic standpoint
so for me this project
was really an experiment of how can we be prophetic
and release a prophetic song in many different
shapes and forms so I'm hoping that you will enjoy
(01:52):
this and that you will get something
out of it and be inspired to do it yourself
and it's exciting
for me for this very first episode to have my dear
friend on with me Judd Fields
who sang all over the project he sings on everything
he's uh
involved in the video production
and all the creative ideas and Jad

and I have been friends for a very long time
maybe two decades when we were 5 maybe Jad ha ha ha ha
but I wanna do a proper introduction for you Jad
because it deserves an introduction I wanna honour
you so for those of you who have never met Jad
Judd is a very well respected
very well loved in the music
industry and the church world
(02:35):
both of those places as a singer a songwriter session
vocalist he is the director
the choir director of the Melbourne Gospel Choir
so uh that's how we met isn't it Jad like I
founded the Melbourne Gospel Choir and then
I think maybe about 10 years in Jad took over and
and has done an incredible job there he's done

backing vocals for everybody
you could possibly think of the Madden Brothers
lots of Aussie artists Westlife Guy Sebastian
UK artist James Morrison so many more he's also
performed as a soloist
and a backing singer on a lot of TV shows here in Oz

so maybe you can share a bit about that as we talk but
enough of the introductions
we are honored to have you here
I'm honored that you've been involved in this project
and let's get straight

into it hey we're gonna talk about like a child
which is the first song on the album
and I thought I'd start judge
maybe let's just mix it up cause I'm talking too much
do you wanna just share for a bit
about the first time you heard the song when we were demoing it
yeah so uh we were having my wife and I we're
having dinner with you and Ted and yeah
(04:23):
a producer and his wife sitting around the table
listening to Ted's funny stories ha ha ha
and you said I'll
be working on this song today with with the producer
and and have a listen to this so you know what
you were all excited you know
typical muso excited about your own project
and you had the headphones and you stuck them on and
you know I guess I just
(04:43):
you listen to things you expected
to be good you're like OK it'll be a cool song but
man there was something about that song that just hit me on
the wow like
around the dining table I was like
this is something special this is really
wow made me want to explode and it sort of
you know you did a verse chorus and then it
it just sort of repeated it was different it wasn't like
(05:04):
you know there was three different verses and you know
choruses and a bridge it was just like this
first section and second section
and then you went back and did it again a bit more intensely
and then you did it again a bit more intensely
and it got to be into that and I was like
can you do it another time it just can't
stop there you need to do it
another time I just kept going
you have to do it again you know
(05:25):
and I said I've got some ideas I'd love to just sing
some things on it cause I think it could
you could do it another time yeah
please can you do it another time
and it's one of those things I guess
it's an intangible when you when you're writing a
a song you know you think
oh well I've only done two sections
maybe it's getting boring or something you know and
so yeah you feel this need to write another it needs
(05:46):
another verse
but there was something about the melody and the way it
balanced off each other it didn't
at all feel like it was repetitive it felt like it was
it was just getting more and more intense
as it was going along and building and build a lot of
you know dance music does that they do one line
and they just keep building
building building building building building
you know yeah that was that kind of feeling
that it was just building and building so um
(06:08):
that was sort of my intro
please let me sing something on this song
I was so happy that you said that and I was
I remember being so encouraged that you'd shared
how you felt about the song
cause for me when I introduced this song
it was actually one of the last songs
that we put together for the project
and it's the first song on the album
because it tells the story
(06:29):
and what we've tried to do with this project
is like tell the story of
what is it like when God sings
you know it starts with a pilgrim
on this journey to the secret
place which is what this song is
and then when they get there and then they spend time worshipping
with God then god responds
he sings back it's that scripture in Zephaniah 3:17
(06:50):
God sings over his children but I remember when I wrote
this the actual melody and the lyric for this song is
is quite old I would say it's over 10 years old
and the reason why I'd never done anything
with it is cause
of exactly what you said it's basically
just one section and a little tagline
and so I kept thinking all the songs
not done I have to before I present it to anyone
(07:12):
I have to finish it and
I would over the years try writing an extra verse
or a chorus and nothing would work and I
would get really frustrated
because I'm like it can't just be this
and then one day I was sitting
down and Adrian the producers like
have you got any more songs are we done
and I kept just feeling the logo go back to this song
(07:33):
so I remember one night sitting in this room
my keyboard is behind me here as I'm talking
and I started to play it and
could not get anything else
I tried and tried and tried and finally
the Lord just said maybe there isn't anything else
Roma did you think about that and I'd never made that
a thought and I was like this is it
and so when we handed it to 80
(07:55):
I think the thing that blew me
away is I said look I've got this it's just one section
I don't know if it can be anything
but I feel like something's on it and it
maybe seven hours later he came back and said
I put something together have a little listen
and I actually did not have any expectation
I actually thought what would happen is
he would send it to me and then it would give me some ideas
(08:17):
to write
another section cause nothing else was working
and I just couldn't believe what it turned into and I
remember ringing him going how did you
this is not where I thought it was gonna go how did you
like what gave you the idea
when he said Roma it wasn't
me at all the song just told me what to do
and I mean if that's not a perfect example of
(08:39):
stepping into a moment of the prophetic song
letting the song take you
I don't know what it is but that
that's why I love this song so much is because
sometimes we bring things and we think they're not finished
and God has a
he has a different way a different entrance he's like
actually I've got a different entrance
for this song that I wanna walk into
(09:00):
so yeah if you think about
we've almost made it a formula of you know music
and songs and even church
we're like well we have a half hour
sermon and then you know
the preacher's gotta come up with words for 30 minutes
and we all go home most of us can only remember
the one key line that really hit us
you know all that other stuff sort of yeah
(09:22):
you just needed that core thing that
spoke to your heart
and that's what I think this song does
it's just got this this core message
that just keeps drawing your heart and
there's an anointing on it that's beautiful
you know you can't teach you can't teach anointing
you can't go well you know just
make this song anointed there's
(09:42):
there's something undefined that I mean I've obviously
you know involved in a lot of different kinds of music
and you know some music
is not of the Holy Spirit you can feel there is it
the enemy's presence on that song and yeah you know
obviously the the songwriters you know they've
maybe drug induced you know and in all sorts of estate
(10:05):
and they're influenced by the spirits that
come out in the song in a even a demonic
way like can actually impress people and
you know really put some some um
crazy stuff in their mind
yes on the flip side when we
sort of just allow the Holy Spirit to just
penetrate the song I mean you and I've been
talking about this a long time about the Psalm of David
(10:28):
you know when he played the harp and the demons
left so we tried to write
songs about that scripture like putting that into music
he didn't he didn't sing songs he he played a harp
there was something actually in the music
there was a spirit in the music that released you know
set people free from the demonic and so
this song's got that kind of
there's something in it that just makes your spirit
(10:51):
want to just draw close to god
it's just yeah it's tangible it just pulls you um yeah
it does that to me too even after listening to it a
million times a friend of mine that um
was pretty big in the 90s
he was a pop star in the 90s in a boy band
and he became it was probably heavily a very
(11:12):
strong Catholic person right so he's involved in
in Catholic Church is very you know devout you know um
really beautiful heart beautiful person
and he got he came to one of our youth of
life rallies back in the day at Rob
Live Arena I think you might have been at that one and
he was just watching this worship
this adoration of the crowd with their hands raised
(11:33):
where in a normal pop setting
that adoration is going to the person on stage
but it wasn't going to the person it was just you know we're a
band everyone
was sort of worshipping and this adoration was going
to God and he made this comment that
stuck with me to this day he goes
there's just no idolatry here
there's no idolatry here wow wow
(11:56):
that was a really profound
statement there's something about worshipping
God that just removes
that idolatry and that worship of man and
yes you know they can't mimic
they try mimic it replicate it but you can't
it's beautiful you can't
replicate the Holy Spirit you know and so
can't that's powerful I love that song
I was thinking like it must be like a thousand times
(12:18):
I've listened to this song
I think you've listened to it more than me
hundred percent like I I listen to it when I was
recording it you know you
obviously back and forth doing that but then
once I recorded it I started
just listening to it even before it was mixed I was like
I'm like I just something about this song's
drawing me in then it sent back the mix and I and
I was listening to it over and over again and then
(12:38):
you know
involved in the video and listening to it over and over
again but you know I people obviously
haven't heard the rest of the album but
this album has actually really spoken to me on a deep
like it's you know
you're asking God to speak to you and then
some of the songs
he's he's replying and you're actually speaking
from God's point of view and he's replying and
those words just deposited
(12:59):
in a pretty rough time in my life like it's been a
transition time and time of laying stuff down and
and these words have really spoken to my spirit so wow
I know they're gonna blow a million
people away it's just
that means so much part of it and yeah well Jad
I tell you it's the greatest compliment
as you know when your friends
actually listen to your music
(13:21):
not'cause they're working
on it but they wanna listen to it and
I just yeah that's the greatest compliment thank you
Jude I'm trying not to say Judy
which is what we call you behind the scenes
but I can't help it so I might it might slip out
Judy Jude whatever
now Jude I would love you to share
(13:42):
because then there was this whole journey
wasn't there of like you going okay
I'd love to firstly hear about how you approach
the song vocally
but then we've got to talk about the video
clip because how much I fought even doing one and
and you're like no Roma so
do you wanna share a little bit wherever you wanna
start and yeah yeah so normally when I do
(14:03):
back in vocal studio
you know if you're working in a studio or something for a producer
they've got some clear ideas of what they want
and they're like no we just want two courses at the end
no ooze nothing else no harmonies yes
whatever and you just like
I can hear all these other ideas
you know do you wanna just try no no
we're happy with that so you're like yeah well you know
but um but you were just very free
(14:24):
you're like whatever you wanna do just
put it in your ideas and so
that that's really liberating for me you just you just
right the thing and you just go
what what am I feeling in this moment what does this
line need or where does this
you know what emotion needs to happen here so
you start quite intimate you know yes um
and I think I've done some more tracks
(14:45):
here previously where I'd sort of
done more of this overlapping of vocals so I would
I would do a bunch of takes and then you know ah
and while that ah
is finishing I would start the next whoo
you know something coming over there yes
and I sort of over that
so I mean you sort of had to do a whole bunch of
harmonies on this part finish that and then
(15:06):
start a whole bunch of tracks and do a whole bunch more coming out of this way so
I was loving the way you could sort of swell out of one
part swell into
another and so I was sort of
playing with some of those ideas and
and then I got to your track and the start of it
the song was really intimate just you and the piano
and and then
it's sort of as the next section comes in
(15:28):
um Adrian to put this
um like a vocoder SoundOn your voice and
it was like your voice split into a rainbow of light
it was like you got from this single intimate thing
and suddenly you you went from this
other world and now your voice was light
and you were singing in this like multiple harmonics
of your voice were coming through and
(15:49):
at first I was like how am I gonna add anything
to that like it felt so um you know full already yeah
and suddenly I just had this like
coming up with this idea of God joining you in song
and so he just starts oohing underneath you
he's like you know ooh
ooh
(16:09):
and your singing is just oohing along with you
and then you're going to the next section again
and now I felt like
it was time for God to sing back to you
and so that's where you know
you would say things like um
you would say I won't be turned away
and I would echo in God saying
(16:29):
you won't be turned away so you know I won't be turned
away and God would say you won't be turned away wow
you know you'd say for you welcome me with open
arms and God says you're welcome home
you know so I had this sort of underneath you
he would echo
what you were saying but he would say it back to you
in his voice wow so that sort of sort of
overlap and then there's a sort of an intense
(16:52):
build with those overlaps and
I sang um your secret place
and while the place is going
I started another your secret place your secret
so the place is finishing and another one starting and
I felt like God was getting closer to you
so he's going your secret place your secret place
(17:12):
your secret place and so he's now he's right
here and at that point
I felt like you were drawing other people in and now
now I was other people wanting to sing along with you
and now I wanna get into the secret place with God
and so now I changed it from being your secret to now
these other voices that come I run to you and you know
(17:36):
um one person goes I run to you and
the other one goes I run to you I run to you and now
wow it's like people are trying to join
along and it you were like inviting people to come to
to the secret place with God and that was it
I think by the end of it there was like 48 tracks of voices
just all sort of you know I just by the last section
I wanted to explode I I threw the kitchen sink at it
(17:57):
every ooh and R and echo
it was like everyone was just wanting to sing this song
running to the secret place to be with you know
to hear from god directly and
um you know just to hear his voice in that in that
space so it was just this urge to just come closer
so I don't know I just try to put that urge into
(18:20):
that's epic I didn't even know this story
like this is like totally blowing my mind
how prophetic you've been in approaching
the backing vocals you haven't just gone
like what a lot of people would do
it's just the backing vocals
it just is like a bed that's nice in the background
you actually have been prophetic
(18:41):
with the way that you have approached the sound and
now I'm gonna go back and listen
again that's really touched me wow
and I I am let's talk about the video clip
coming into that so
so I had this idea
of approaching this video guy and actually sharing
with him what I saw in the spirit as I was writing
(19:02):
the song so I had this whole idea of this pilgrim
with like bow and arrow in her back
and she's just running up the mountain to the secret
place and I could see it so vividly
from the moment that I wrote the song decades
ago so whenever I would sit down and like play this song
like every now and then in my worship
time at home I'd just go back and play that little
bit you know thinking it was enough a bit of nothing
(19:24):
and it was never gonna turn into anything else
but I would see this picture and I'm studying
at the moment at university I'm doing my Masters
of spirituality and we've been studying
this Christian mystic Hildegard of Bingen
is her name the weirdest name ever
but this is what really struck me so there's this uh
(19:44):
article
that you can read where people asked her questions
she was around in the 11th century and they're like
when you have a vision
what does it look like for you when you see something and you share it what do you mean
and there's just this little sentence where she says
I can't paint I can't draw
but what I do is I commission artists
and I share the vision
(20:06):
and then they go ahead and they draw what I see
and I was thinking to myself
what this what an incredible collaboration
with the body of Christ
to be able to share what you see and then see somebody
else express it in a different way and so for me
the idea of doing this clip where someone could create
(20:28):
this vision of what I saw I wondered if someone
could do it so it was a bit of an experiment
for me so I got this guy
I just wrote out my whole vision
the guy wasn't even a Christian
right I'm just like this is what I saw
and he listened to the song
goes I can see it completely I can see exactly
what you're saying and then he left me hanging
for two weeks while he put everything
(20:49):
together I kept sending messages going
is there anything you can show me
and finally when he showed it to me I just wept
cause it's exactly what I saw
in my mind and he said the same thing he said
Roma I've listened to this song maybe
500 times and every time I hear it
I see the picture that you told me you saw
(21:10):
and so there was just this other layer of the prophetic
you know and then also to be able to
have somebody
that maybe doesn't have a relationship with God
to enter the song like that and create like that
that got me really excited it's like this
this has been like an a bit of an evangelism
tool for me to have someone experience
(21:31):
what it would actually be like to enter God's presence
but um I when I was doing it Jud will know the story
cause he was part of it he's like
I'm like I don't wanna be on any videos
I don't want my face on anything
cause I hate all that stuff
like it's I just hate it so much he's like Roma
you have to do it this is what it looks like this is what I see
when I look at all this other stuff
(21:53):
and so I was very grumpy that day when I did it
so I was like you know you you need
you almost needed to like the vision I had when I saw
was like this is you know this is exactly your vision
but it'd be great if you could almost just in the clip
show people that this is your vision
(22:13):
and so I'm like why don't you you know sit at the piano
and it's like you you you're now imagining
this and we we see you sit at the piano
and then we're drawn into your imagination
yeah you're so right it was like oh yes this is
it just finished
the whole thing like when you do that and I remember
getting
the the clip back and just cry I actually cried
(22:35):
I was like this is really from beginning to end God
has had his hand on this in the bits that
we don't wanna go to
the bits that we think are finished
and you know guys hang tight to the end of this podcast
because I wanna share some prophetic things with you
about what I felt to say to you
around what I've Learned but let's just step
(22:56):
into very quickly we're almost done but
I'd like to step into the process of how
how we heard from god with these songs so one of the things that
was really different for me with this project
is Anton Becker who will be on this uh
series at some point he
actually said to me when he heard the project
he was like Romero I've had a pray
and I don't think you can release this project the way
(23:19):
that you would release a normal
project I don't think it's radio single hits it's not
he's a rock star trying to
do whatever which thank god cause that's just not me
no problem if other people have that on their hearts
but that's just not me
and he said I actually think you need to bathe
this project in prayer
and with intercessors and so Ted and I my husband
(23:42):
we went up to the Central Coast where Anton lives
and the beautiful people big shout out to
all the intercessors and creative team
at hope you see on the Central Coast Hope
is a beautiful church we've got great friends there
it's run by Mark and Darlene
check and an incredible team
that are up there and we just met with the intercessors
(24:03):
in this in one of the one of the rooms
and some of the worship
leaders and some of the team and then I had the painstaking
role of sitting there while everybody
listened to the song with this form
and they had to write
down what they sensed from the Lord now I was like
so embarrassed
I'm gonna be honest like it's so weird to sit there
(24:25):
and everybody listen to your songs
but the presence of God was so I will never forget
how precious it was to me and just the way they
at the end they prayed over me they prophesied over me
and then I was given this document
of all their comments
of what they sent so I wanna read some of them to you guys
(24:45):
just to hear some of the things that the intercessor
said I'm actually choking up just thinking
about this so for this song this is what they sensed
they heard the Lord say let the children
come they saw the prodigal son
um draw near to god and he will draw near to you
one person saw people of all ages
running up into the Father's arms
(25:05):
he was twirling them around seating them on the throne
innocence there's a childlike sound
that dares you to be like a child in how you worship
and it's a reminder for those who may feel weary or heavy in their days
and then I loved this quote
people who think they are too old
it is an invitation to find yourself
at his feet again as his child
(25:28):
and I just amazed that this different approach has just
done something to me personally but
I pray that that is exactly what people hear
when they're listening to this song and
have you got any final comments
before I jump into what I feel the prophetic
invitation is around this I I didn't hear that but I
(25:51):
I had the same feeling so that's that's pretty cool
that's awesome that's awesome well
this is what I sensed
because I don't want this podcast just to be a hey
this is me and this is all the things I did that would be super weird
but I actually hope that if
giving you an invitation into the process
and all the people that are involved this is
certainly been a community project
(26:13):
but I hope that it encourages you and inspires
you and one of the things that I want to
say to everybody listening today
is that sometimes as worshippers
sometimes as songwriters we often can hold on to
something that's very dear
to our heart a song we're writing
maybe a gift that you have on your life thinking that
(26:33):
it's not complete yet it's not ready yet
it's not big enough it's not polished enough
or it doesn't match what you see other people doing
and I just had this sense you know what if
the finishing doesn't happen in the writing
what it look like if it happened in the production
or when you offer it the first time or
(26:55):
maybe it's even in the hands of someone else that's certainly
been the case for this song who adds their obedience
and their skill to it and then we have prophetic
partnership you get to partner with others to release
something prophetic now I think that as creatives
(27:15):
we can often hold on just a little bit too tight
because we're we've been hurt or we're afraid
of what will happen
if you let it go it's precious to you
and you don't wanna
you don't want someone else to ruin it I totally
get that I have been there I am
there on a regular basis but what this process
on this song has taught me and I hope it encourages you
(27:38):
don't be afraid
to share things before they are finished
not just to an audience but
during the creative process and that prophetic worship
it it carries an invitation to release what god
has given us
even if you don't feel like you're quite ready
(27:59):
yet and it's that maybe it becomes complete
simply when we say yes
when the yes comes out of our mouth and so as we finish
I wanna ask
a question to you I want you to think about this question and ask yourself
this is there something you have been holding back
(28:20):
because you think it's not finished
and could god be inviting you to trust
that the finishing
might just come through someone else's hands
and what would it look like to offer your creative
offering like a child simple surrendered
full of wonder that's my challenge to you and Jad
(28:44):
