(00:00):
La Salette, in a lost corner of the French Alps,a Voliria appeared sitting on a rock, weeping.
And then she says, the priests, ministers ofmy son, by their wicked lives, by their irreverence
and their impiety in celebrating the holy mysteries,by their love of money, honor, and pleasures,
have become cesspools of impurity. That's whatshe says. Yes, the priests are asking vengeance

(00:26):
and vengeance is hanging over their heads.
Very strong. That links very well with PaulVI's line about the smoke of Satan. Yes, exactly.
What else did Our Lady say at La Salette? Stayuntil the end because today we'll do the mystery
of Our Lady of La Salette and everything youneed to know about. Welcome to Salve Maria,

(00:50):
the podcast of the Heralds of the Gospel.
Salve Maria Fr. Arthur! Salve Maria! Salve MariaFr. Justin! Salve Maria! So today we are talking
about Our Lady of La Salette. Many in the audience,I'm sure, are not familiar with Our Lady of
La Salette. And so we are going to help everyone,I'm sure, to discover this phenomenal devotion

(01:14):
and quite a difficult message, right Father?Very much, very, very much. First of all, the
name is the name of the place. La Salette isa place, maybe in old French, means the little...
The little corner, the little room, Salet, isthe diminutive of Sal, big. And it's in the

(01:35):
Alps and very high. It's a place that nobodyknows. Probably would never have been known
and unless Our Lady decided to go there. Andit's amazing that once again, Our Lady appears
to children. But not necessarily when somebodyhas an apparition, he is a saint. In the case

(01:55):
of Lourdes, yes, Bernadette is a saint. In thecase of Fatima, the three children are saints.
In the case of Lassalet, no. They were not canonised, they were not religious. Well, apparently several
other contemporary apparitions have that issuetoo, eh? Yes, exactly. So, in the case of Akita,

(02:21):
well, yes, she was very holy, actually. And,but not necessarily the seer has to be a saint.
It's not a confirmation in grace at all, right? No. That it only appears to the person, it's
an invitation probably. La Salette, we weretalking about the question that it was in the

(02:43):
French Alps. And it happens at a very interestingperiod of French history, we're talking 1846.
So we're talking after the... July monarchy. We're talking about a very lay period in French
history. And also big European revolutions twoyears ago. No, no, everything is in tumult.

(03:04):
And what's going on? It's taking away the veryreligion. So we end up with a French president,
a king, kind of Louis Philippe. And what ispart of our ladies' problems is that people
are not respecting Sunday anymore. They're workingon the sun. These are farming communities.

(03:24):
They're not practicing the Sabbath rest, theuse of curses, but blasphemies, using sacred
items as a curse, as a blasphemy, it's terrible.Against the second commandment. Oh, absolutely,
against the first. And they use it in a vulgarity,in a very vulgar manner. So. It's tremendous.

(03:47):
It's a tremendous insult to the Sacred Heartof Jesus. So this is kind of where we are in
France. We have a France which is post-Napoleonic,French Revolution, that's not recovered yet.
So this is the same France, just to give ourselvesa historic sense, in the middle of a period

(04:07):
where we have the kyrdars. He's doing his ministry. We know how terribleβ€” His parish was, and the
stories that happened there, we have the adventof the teaching orders in France. And the Korea
of Arts recommended La Salette. He said, goto La Salette and pray to Lady La Salette and
do what she's asking, to pen us. Absolutely. And, but this is the problem. There was a deep

(04:32):
rot going on. And then from La Salette, we endup having some more chances. We end up with
lords, we end up with Rue de Bach with the MiraculousMedal. But you may say, let's kind of a bounce
point. It is. So what do we have? We have twochildren, two young children. It's more or

(04:53):
less on the line with Fatima in this sense. We have two children, 11 and 14, very young,
not very old. But unfortunately, unlike thechildren in Fatima, they're not very good.
No, and not very religious. And they kind ofsymbolize France. Yeah, exactly. They may have
come from families that were religious. theirfamilies in the past were religious, but they

(05:14):
had lost it. And they have a certain amountof respect for Our Lady, but they're not our
Fatima children. They are not Bernadette. Theyare not Catherine Laboury. They are different.
Our Lady is so, so concerned that she cries.I think it's not the only one, but to cry as

(05:35):
she cried to the children in the Salish, shenever cried like this. Our Lady is sitting
on that. on a rock, weeping. And also somethingthat is very important to mention, she also
laments the sins of the clergy. And then shepoints out, she says that, well, unfortunately,
the fulfillment of vows is falling. She says, sure. And then as a result, our lady is weeping.

(05:58):
But not only for the clergy, but also for thesins of the. But the fact that she's complaining
about people not going to church, not goingto Sunday, not praying, et cetera, it is the
fault of the people and of the church, becausewe're bringing both. The career of ours here,
no, several commentaries used to say, when thepriest is holy, the people are very good. When

(06:21):
the priest is very good, the people are good. When the priest is good, the people are mediocre.
And when the priest is mediocre, the faith willgo to hell. So that is exactly the proportion
in this, no? So the career of ours in a certainsense represents what our lady wanted. for
the clergy at the time. He did it. He was whathe was. And his story is heartbreaking because

(06:46):
he was given the worst parish probably in France. This is the great times of the 19th century.
You have Saint John Bosco, you have Saint-Depaule.Pierre-Julien Aymar. Saint-Pierre-Julien Aymar,
the founder of the. And he spoke also aboutLa Salette. That's right. And he brought a
revival of the Eucharistic devotion. I mean,we have phenomenal saints at that time, right?

(07:08):
But these saints. didn't have an easy time becausethey were trying to revive a church that was
dying, really dying. They were dying. Dry roots. And it was dying in France, which was supposed
to be the place where the church was going tobe well, and through France, the conversion
of the world. So maybe it's crying because Francewas going down, the faith was going down, people
were not going to church, and they were usingawful language and insulting a lot of Jesus

(07:32):
Christ in this way. We ended up with Lourdesa few years later. And if it wasn't really,
if it wasn't for the, um, the Catholics in theBritish Isles who got enthusiastic about lords,
lords would have gone nowhere because the Frenchweren't interested. But all of a sudden, all
these foreigners started coming in by the boatloadliterally. And lords became something and the

(07:58):
miracles started to flow and they were not Frenchthat were having these miracles. If you go
to the old church on top and you look at theex votos, about 80% of them are English. Yes,
true. Right? So they used to say that was wherethe wellspring of the priests of the English
Isles was in Lourdes because of that element. They were going there, they were receiving

(08:20):
conversions and they were moving on. So we endedup with this massive decay happening in France
and our lady is crying over France. And Lourdesis only 12 years after La Salette, 12 years
after. Our Lady is concerned, she's appearing, she's crying, she's... She's trying something.
And then after Lourdes, we have Ruth de Bachwith the Miraculous Medal. You might say the

(08:44):
French soul has a case of cholera and they'redying. But Our Lady does not abandon her insistence,
right? But something I don't know that strikesme a lot further is that Our Lady goes and
says that she's trying to hold the hand of God,meaning the punishment. And she realizes that

(09:09):
the hand of God is becoming heavier and heavier, and she cannot hold it back anymore. So that's
a tremendous warning. If you don't convert,so already still asking France and through
France, the world to convert in 1846. You know, there's an interesting link here, which is
that the 1845 potato blight that causes thepotato famine in Ireland and in England and

(09:38):
France and all over Europe is directly linked. Our lady said, if people don't change, there's
going to be a chastisement on the fields. Andwe end up having the blight which destroys
the potatoes and the livelihood of so many people. And it's an incredibly cold winter. So we can
see it's a call to conversion, a call to repentance,a call to penance. And at the same time, still

(10:04):
Our Lady appealing in all ways. A call to comeback to the church for the laity and for the
priest also, a renewal of priesthood and a renewalof the laity. Let's go to a very short infomercial,
as we call it. And then we come back with thecore of the apparitions of Our Lady of La Salette.

(10:25):

(12:21):
of Our Lady of Lass-Alette. Father Arthur, wheredo we start? Her appearance. She was dressed
in a silver dress with roses around her neckand with a chain and a crucifix, which is very
unusual. The only time that Mary appears witha crucifix on her. And what a crucifix. Yes,

(12:41):
and the crucifix, the Lord is on the cross. And on one side, there is a hammer. And on
the other side, there is kind of a pliers, pliers. And it means that you can choose or to hammer
more the nails of our Lord on the cross withyour sense, or to use the pliers to take the

(13:02):
nails and to convert. When you convert, youare relieving our Lord Jesus Christ of all
this pain. So he's extremely pleased to seethat a sinner converts. The words that Our
Lady says when she encounters these children, right? She says, come near my children, do
not be afraid. I am here to tell you great news."And this great news is that there's a terrible

(13:27):
chastisement that's about to happen becauseof the problem. He goes, I gave you six days
to work. I kept the seventh for myself. Theydo not give it to me. Not even one day of the
week is for our Lord Jesus Christ, and He'sthe creator of everything, and the whole week
should belong to Him. And then she says afterthat, if my people will not submit… I shall

(13:52):
be forced to let go of the hand of my son. Itis so heavy, so pressing, that I can no longer
hold it." You see the fight between mercy andjustice now. Our Lord is always trying to bring
mercy in order to give us time to convert. Tillwhen this is going to go, we don't know. But

(14:13):
we think that we are very, very near to this.Very amazing. And then you have the actual
quote of the prophecy of Our Lady to the potatoeswill continue to decay. And by Christmas, there
will be none left. And there was a big famineyou were mentioning, right? The potato famine.
And that struck everywhere because by the 1800s,it was the crop of choice. You don't have to

(14:37):
plant too much. You don't have to tend it. Andin Northern climates, it grew very abundantly.
So it had replaced many other things. And allof a sudden it all rotted. So there was no
replacement. There was no starchy replacement. And in the poor areas, they ate potatoes and
potatoes. That's all they ate. So when theyhad no potatoes, there was nothing to replace

(14:59):
it. And unfortunately when the potatoes wouldrot, the blight would damage the soil. So the
other root vegetables would also rot. So thecarrots, the parsnips and everything else that
was a root vegetable. So. These are high-carbohydratetype vegetables. So massive hunger. Of course.

(15:22):
Then we're in 1846, right? And then by 1851,the apparitions are officially corroborated,
approved by the church, the bishop actuallygoes and says, this apparition carries within
it all the marks of truth and the faithful havegrounds to believe it and dovetable and certain.
So there we go. Right? It is. one of those apparitionsat that very few years. Fatima, I think it

(15:47):
took a long time to be approved and severalothers, but this one only, we're talking about
five years. Yeah, five years. And then the secretis revealed. Apparently there are two secrets
of La Salette. One which is longer, that wasrevealed in 79, 1879. And the other one, the

(16:07):
first one, which is shorter in 51. And in that...A secret, Mary says that France will corrupt
the world, that France will have a great responsibilityfor the corruption of the world. But there
is going to be another nation from the Northwhich is Protestant but will convert. Mary

(16:34):
doesn't mention which country is that, but theonly one who more or less fits in this description
is England. So maybe, you know, somehow Englandwill convert to our Lord Jesus Christ. Professor
Plinio Correa de Oliveira, you always used to,you used to comment about this principle, no?
Corruption, Optima, Pessima by Saint Thomas. And then he basically, when the best ones are

(17:00):
corrupted, they, because they were the best, they bring about the worst. And so France,
being the first nation that converted to theCatholic Church and having such a high cultural
level in everything, and dictating the fashionsalong with it. And particularly at this point,

(17:21):
after 1840 is the Belle Epoque. So it becamethe center, but also become the center of corruption.
Of course. The Bohemian lifestyle, all that, that all came about, it was France, it was
Paris. And even the Pope of that time, It'svery encouraging. He says, our lady of Lassalet
weeps and those tears are tears of a mother.Expressions of maternal love and concern for

(17:46):
her children. He's calling people to believewhat Our Lady said and asking people to convert.
It's interesting because Our Lady says, if youconvert, then the just assignment will be delayed.
If you convert a little. it will be delayeda little. It sounds a little bit like Fatima

(18:11):
where Lucy goes and asks Our Lady if it wasokay. It was 15 decades was too much. Is it
possible something in between? And Our Ladysays, pray five, but pray. Exactly. It's like,
just do something. And that's where the problemlies. There's on the 150th anniversary of La

(18:35):
Salette, Pope John Paul II was speaking, hesaid in an interesting manner, he says, Our
lady's tears speak of her sorrow for the sinsof her children, and they invite us to conversion,
to return to her Son with all our heart. That'sreally what it is, right? And how do we return
to the Lord? It's through the Lord's day. It'sthrough going back to Mass frequently in the

(18:58):
sacraments. And if you don't frequent the sacraments,if you don't go back to Mass, then it's all
for naught. It's not going to work. But Father, there is a part that, as we were mentioning,
has been approved. And there is another partthat apparently has not been approved, and
it's a little bit controversial, right? I wouldlike to quote Pope Paul VI that says, The message

(19:23):
of Lysolite is forever inscribed in the heartof the church. It speaks for every generation,
calling for a return to God, to prayer, andto the observance of the Lord's day. And it's
also necessary to mention that Paul the sixthis the same one that mentioned that the, um,
the smoke of Satan would come into the church. It has penetrated. Has penetrated. Even the

(19:47):
sanctuary of the God. Yeah. So maybe he read, you know, the Salet, maybe he, uh, that's some
information that we don't have. Yes. But it'svery strong. What would be that part that was
not approved? And it's quite controversial inLa Salette. properly speaking. I think as the
two seers were not saints, apparently they werenot really faithful to the whole message. They

(20:12):
were faithful to part of it and they revealedpart of it, but then they kind of start inventing
on their own. So the church tried to keep thisunder control because it will damage the other
part of the message, which is 100% true. And...It's interesting because it's in the same line

(20:34):
of all the other messages. Our Lady is speakingconsistently and in the same direction and
saying the same message in different ways todifferent people, trying to wake up the Church
and society to come back to our Lord Jesus Christ. If not, there will be a trust-sidemen. In all
the apparitions, Our Lady speaks about trust-sidemen.Which year is the second part, Father, was

(20:59):
revealed? that the one that hasn't been approvedyet? In 1871. 21. So it's basically 20 years
after. In the meantime, from that point, we'vehad Lourdes. Yeah. We've had Rue de Bach. Exactly.
And we have Portman. Yeah. It's rather interesting. Our lady is trying to get the French to wake

(21:25):
up. Shake them somehow. And then finally shegoes to Portugal because, you know, in France,
kind of, you know, there's no more hope or...There's a quote here from John Paul II where
he says, Mary in her motherly concern urgesus to return to her son. She does so with love,
a love of a mother. La Salette remains a placewhere her motherly heart continues to beat,

(21:51):
calling us to trust in her intercession. Andthis is the crisis point. Because when we see
all that's around us... Do we still trust inher intercession? So the calling of La Salette
is a very strong calling. The fact that sheappears sitting, it shows that she is kind
of weakened by the weight of the sins and ofwhat is going to happen to mankind that she

(22:18):
loves and she wants to convert. And then sheappears with her two hands holding her head
and she cries. So it's... nothing more you canexpect of a mother. She cannot be in a more
terrible situation than this one. Yeah, andthere also she does not appear with a crown.
No. And she's in almost peasant attire. Exactly. The very typical alpine dress. So it's like

(22:45):
she's been despoiled. Her land has kicked herout. We have here a notable quote from the
1871 father. Apparitions says extended versionof the La Salette revelation attribute to Melanie
Calva who is the 14 year old and then she saysthe priests ministers of my son by their wicked

(23:09):
lives by their irreverence and their impietyin celebrating the Holy Mysteries by their
love of money honor and pleasures have becomecesspools of impurity That's what she says.
Yes, the priests are asking vengeance and vengeanceis hanging over their heads. Very strong, very

(23:29):
strong. That links very well with Paul VI'sline about the smoke of Satan. Yes, exactly.
See that connects, there's a connector. Exactly, there's a connection there. And this is stronger
than Fatima. And so it says stronger than Akita.but also encompasses the faithful too, right?
I mean, now we cannot be like, you know, ina far-is-sake way to say, oh, well, it's all

(23:53):
the, no, the bishop's fault, no? Like many peoplesay, or the priest's fault. We are also, everyone
is part of this, right? So we need, it's a bigcall to conversion. It shows the state of the
church in general. But the church, this is interesting, because this is the church of, let's say, of
Europe, of the world, because it's not justFrance. in the 1840s, what about the church

(24:21):
of the 1950s, right? Or the church of today?Because a lot of people have these illusions
that if we can turn back the clock and go backto 1950, everything is good and everything
will be fine because everything is fabulous. And it's sort of like, no, if in 1840 things
were in a crisis,

(24:46):
far worse, and today would be far worse than1950. Absolutely, because today society is
moving in a speed that has never moved so fast.So every year is like decades in the past.
Yeah, the coming of artificial intelligencehas basically completely changed the panorama
and everything. Our Lady of La Salette is reallya call, it's a call for a conversion that unfortunately

(25:11):
wasn't heeded. Although great saints were verymuch involved with it, St. Julian, Ammard and
so many others, deep down effect, very shallow. So Father, what do we do then for those who
are listening, for us who are sitting here atthe table, we should pray more, we should do

(25:31):
penance. We should understand that Our Ladyis saying more or less the same thing in all
the apparitions. So it means that this is notsomething that Our Lady said it once and then
she forgot it. This is her thought for today. This is what she's thinking for today, that
are we convert or we repent, and we meaningall of us, the church, the laity, the clergy,

(25:58):
everybody, or we have a great conversion, orthere's going to be something very, very big.
As our lady said in La Salette, that the armof our Lord Jesus Christ is going to fall on
mankind, and it's going to be a big, big eventthat... We need to therefore prepare ourselves.
How? By conversion. It's the only way that youcan be protected, to convert, to pray, to see

(26:23):
what our lady said. Look, pray, pray the rosary,go to church, go to mass, et cetera. So this
is what we are all about. This is what- A changeof heart and a change of metanoia. Like, you
know, a change of mentality. So our lady basicallysaying, look, there has to be a tremendous
metanoia in the church, in the world. If not-The world has to start again. Let's ask through

(26:48):
the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the blessing of Almighty God, Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit come upon you and remain withyou forever. Amen.
