In the last episode of our MOTW one-shot our tweens have discovered some clues of the dark past and history surrounding the haunted house at the end of the block, but what is it all leading up to? And what might be hiding in the final room of the McGovern home? or treat, fight or flee.

scrapbook. So in this scrapbook, as you go through

newspaper of scary things that have been
happening in the community. All of them are centered
around this house, the McGovern house. You find
some information about who Mister McGovern
was. He was a famous, I guess, philanthropists in
the community. Well, known for loving the holidays
and loving, you know, doing nice things for the children around the community

until he dies in tragic
circumstances. A sharp breeze
blows in through and opens the door to
whatever this room is. Further into the house.
It slams a shred. It's kind of that wind effect of
slams. Slam.
Once again, these modern day animatronics
doing wonders. Follow my light. He just
(01:25):
leads the way into the room with his sword and shield
in front of him.
Cause you're leading the way with your, you know, sort of sword of the spirit.
Sword of the spirit and the shield of faith.
Something flies at you out of the deer. And
you hear that shrieking noise you heard, but it's
a lot louder this time.
Oh, gosh.
And you see this just glowing, ghostly thing flying

at you. It hits you. It hits you square in the face.
So I will use my oops.
Ability.
You're literally going to trip and
fall, and you're gonna land face to
face with a teddy bear.
She, like, starts to examine it.
All you notice on the bottom is the name Rosie. All of a

sudden, you hear the windows start rattling
in a scream.
Someone's in danger.
I've run into the room. All right. You find yourself in
a child's playroom.
Maya, where's Ella? Oh, she's gone again.
Ella.
I start walking out of the room.
Oh, wait for me.

I guess I'll follow you.

come into this room. other than that, nothing

key and you see a place to narratively keep going up.

in the front, so I assume this would kind of be your taking

Okay. Hey, with a nine, you are going to
find at the bottom of this box,
you find, what appears to be a
diary. Sorry, I gotta make sure.

I. Dang it.
I could have saved that bit for the diary.
A diary in the Adam diary in the third
person. I don't know if that would have made sense.
>> Cameron (05:19):
As you are looking at it, as you're reaching and
you're, like, half in this box. This isn't even a box. It's like an old truck,
almost like, you know, one of those old, like, toy trunks, you
know, you. And I'm assuming everyone else is
kind of gathering around you because you said, hey, look what I found.

You know, there's. Again, there's. The only light is the lightsaber in your

what you already know from the scrapbook I'm going to give
you, I don't want. Let's call it advantage. This isn't usually a
thing you do, but you already have a prior knowledge of some of the things
this family is probably going to talk about. So if you want to skim
this book to see if you can find any information that would tell you what it is and
maybe connect some dots for you, you can do that.

Ah. Rosie's father
was, the McGovern, that owned the house.
He was in charge of putting on the, Halloween

before yous, he
was again famous for philanthropy and,
you know, the cheer and love of the holidays and of a
little bit of mischief and you know, light hearted scaring
of children. He was just that guy. He's that guy in the town, right? Well
respected, well loved. never made someone do a trick. It was always

treats, you know, that kind of guy. M. then he
died while putting decor. And again, this is back
in, like, the fifties, you know,
probably the earlier first generation of, like, let's decorate for
this holiday. You know, the war is over. We don't have to be scared.

and, you know, he was well known as being the first person to decorate
and do a haunted house. And that, you know, they would haunt the little

area around their house. And it was well known for being spooky,
and he actually died in that process.
that that was. That was it. So as
you read this, you realize pretty
quickly that Halloween's what
killed him, if you want to think about it that way. Right? This was. This man
was a victim of. And you can tell from the little girl that

there was definitely some resentment of that.
She went from being, you know, a couple entries of
Halloween's coming. It's my favorite holiday to,
I will never. I will never celebrate this holiday again. You
know, this holiday took the most. Maybe she didn't like her mom much. Maybe
her mom was a little more severe and against,
the ridiculousness of the holiday.
So making those connections here.

You found out that the daughter resents the
holiday. You found out that the daughter is Rosie. You found out
that the, holiday isn't really
popular in this family anymore after old man McGovern
died. So you now are
upstairs in the attic, in that trunk, you have found
a diary. Inside of the diary as a paper, as a

bookmark for that page, the section you found on the family history
is this key. You have found the key. You have what
you assume would be the ability to go into that room.
If we could get.
If you now have to find your way out of it. So you are
a bunch of young, intrepid sleuths. You know there is
at least two exits from this room. You know one of them
has been slammed behind you, but you

also know there's another one somewhere that must open from the top
because it doesn't open from the bottom.

again, you have the same kind of ghostly light and you

and just screaming it again, being loud.

but it is. This is full on, you
know, ghost shrieking, thing
flying adjacent to you. Not flying into you, but flying,
like floating in front of you get out of

Yeah, I was gonna say. The irony is that she's leaving this derelict house
to just basically look like the ideal
haunted house to go walk into and get scared

That's right. As, as this
quadruple group of characters walks home,
each to their respective houses. But before they do that as a
group, they're walking down the sidewalk, and James
reaches into his pumpkin, thing.
Bucket. And he pulls out the extra pack
that he got from the dentist guy. And

he hands it to Alex. He
says, I don't know about you guys. That was a lot
of fun.

Ella's already left.

footprints going up the stairs. Maya,
you see a book. Looks like. Almost like a
scrapbook. So in this scrapbook, as you go through

it, you're gonna find, like, clippings from the
newspaper of scary things that have been
happening in the community. All of them are centered
around this house, the McGovern house. You find
some information about who Mister McGovern
was. He was a famous, I guess, philanthropists in
the community. Well, known for loving the holidays
and loving, you know, doing nice things for the children around the community
(01:04):
until he dies in tragic
circumstances. A sharp breeze
blows in through and opens the door to
whatever this room is. Further into the house.
It slams a shred. It's kind of that wind effect of
slams. Slam.
Once again, these modern day animatronics
doing wonders. Follow my light. He just
(01:25):
leads the way into the room with his sword and shield
in front of him.
Cause you're leading the way with your, you know, sort of sword of the spirit.
Sword of the spirit and the shield of faith.
Something flies at you out of the deer. And
you hear that shrieking noise you heard, but it's
a lot louder this time.
Oh, gosh.
And you see this just glowing, ghostly thing flying
(01:46):
at you. It hits you. It hits you square in the face.
So I will use my oops.
Ability.
You're literally going to trip and
fall, and you're gonna land face to
face with a teddy bear.
She, like, starts to examine it.
All you notice on the bottom is the name Rosie. All of a

sudden, you hear the windows start rattling
in a scream.
Someone's in danger.
I've run into the room. All right. You find yourself in
a child's playroom.
Maya, where's Ella? Oh, she's gone again.
Ella.
I start walking out of the room.
Oh, wait for me.

I guess I'll follow you.
>> Skylar (02:25):
Okay.
>> Cameron (02:25):

So you're gonna. You rolled a nine?

Okay. In this room, you,
see, this is what appears to be
child's, a child's bedroom, right? They have the playroom, and

then they have a bedroom, as one does in this time. So you can
infer that maybe there's just the one kid, the one girl that you saw.
You, see a ladder going
up, probably, you could presume to the attic the
same as the other one would be. This, appears to be,
again, relatively recently
opened. there's. Dust has been kind of disturbed.

you could infer that those footprints coming upstairs have
come into this room. other than that, nothing
notable. There's a bed, there's no pictures. There's.
Yeah, nothing that you would consider to be of, you know, of
note.
Well, that's peculiar.
So your question here is really no
question. You have one place to go. You have, you know, you need to find a
key and you see a place to narratively keep going up.

Nowhere to go but up. let's do it.
Who's taking the lead? Ella?

Oh, great idea. The, only way to find knowledge is

find at the bottom of this box,
you find, what appears to be a
diary. Sorry, I gotta make sure.

A diary in the Adam diary in the third
person. I don't know if that would have made sense.

As you are looking at it, as you're reaching and
you're, like, half in this box. This isn't even a box. It's like an old truck,
almost like, you know, one of those old, like, toy trunks, you
know, you. And I'm assuming everyone else is
kind of gathering around you because you said, hey, look what I found.
you are going to.
You know, there's. Again, there's. The only light is the lightsaber in your

light behind you. You hear the
step lightning up and latching.

this family is probably going to talk about. So if you want to skim
this book to see if you can find any information that would tell you what it is and
maybe connect some dots for you, you can do that.

Ah. Rosie's father
was, the McGovern, that owned the house.
He was in charge of putting on the, Halloween

festival for the town. You know, back in the
before yous, he
was again famous for philanthropy and,
you know, the cheer and love of the holidays and of a
little bit of mischief and you know, light hearted scaring
of children. He was just that guy. He's that guy in the town, right? Well
respected, well loved. never made someone do a trick. It was always

treats, you know, that kind of guy. M. then he
died while putting decor. And again, this is back
in, like, the fifties, you know,
probably the earlier first generation of, like, let's decorate for
this holiday. You know, the war is over. We don't have to be scared.
Right.
and, you know, he was well known as being the first person to decorate
and do a haunted house. And that, you know, they would haunt the little
(09:59):
area around their house. And it was well known for being spooky,
and he actually died in that process.
that that was. That was it. So as
you read this, you realize pretty
quickly that Halloween's what
killed him, if you want to think about it that way. Right? This was. This man
was a victim of. And you can tell from the little girl that

there was definitely some resentment of that.
She went from being, you know, a couple entries of
Halloween's coming. It's my favorite holiday to,
I will never. I will never celebrate this holiday again. You
know, this holiday took the most. Maybe she didn't like her mom much. Maybe
her mom was a little more severe and against,
the ridiculousness of the holiday.
So making those connections here.

You found out that the daughter resents the
holiday. You found out that the daughter is Rosie. You found out
that the, holiday isn't really
popular in this family anymore after old man McGovern
died. So you now are
upstairs in the attic, in that trunk, you have found
a diary. Inside of the diary as a paper, as a

bookmark for that page, the section you found on the family history
is this key. You have found the key. You have what
you assume would be the ability to go into that room.
If we could get.
If you now have to find your way out of it. So you are
a bunch of young, intrepid sleuths. You know there is
at least two exits from this room. You know one of them
has been slammed behind you, but you

also know there's another one somewhere that must open from the top
because it doesn't open from the bottom.

No, I thought you were gonna say. And then there's the window that just drops.

And then you can throw 20ft to the ground.

Ella, while we're, while they're reading that book, how about you trying to find
a way down?

Cuz I wanted to make kids so scared of Halloween

Ever since Halloween, my father loved
it, and he would make a big to do about
Halloween. Then he died because of it. When I
was a little girl, and my mother
always said it was Halloween's fault that we lost him, and she
would never. She just wanted the holiday to go
away. So after she died,

Holly, but no one would listen. They just want to go out and
have their candy. So I started trying to scare people
into it.

of scary things happening. Otherwise
kids won't believe it. And every year, it gets better because there's less and less kids
trick or treating.

I did see how many kids up this
year.

I know. It was great, wasn't it?

I mean, yeah.

I mean, it meant more candy for us?

I thought about it as soon as I closed the thing up. when
you were in the attic, I thought about, gee, Rosie, what
happens if they fall out of the attic?

Yeah, you shut the door in a pitch black attic. What did you think?

Well, I knew you had lights.
>> Skylar (46:34):
Yeah. How are we supposed to leave your house if you lock us in
an attic?
>> Cameron (46:38):
Then lock it. She just shut the.
>> Mikayla (46:40):
You could have opened both of them. They both
opened. None of them were locked.

That concludes our story and
Halloween, adventure. just to recap, you have found
out the mystery of who's doing this. I mean, you maybe not have
solved it. Nothing says she's gonna stop.
But you deciphered it. You get to keep your candy.
I don't think anyone called the cops on you. I mean, you did
us all bluffs. Yeah.

>> Cameron (48:14):
No one actually wants to call the police on children.
>> Skylar (48:16):

Especially on Hollow. No. You just want the kids to
stop.
>> Skylar (48:19):
They'll just laugh at you.

Yeah, but, like, you know, you did assault an elderly woman.

Well, I mean, I did what I had to do.

She did lock us in the attic.
You did break into her house.
>> Skylar (48:33):
I just want to establish that. Scooby and the gang beat up
all kinds of crazy villains, and the police always show up and who they
arrest.
>> Cameron (48:39):
but the villains are also breaking the law. Yeah, that's true.
I mean, it's usually something to do with real estate, so it's
usually something.
>> Skylar (48:46):
Which, ironically, this was, too.
>> Cameron (48:48):
It's her house.
Yeah, again, it's her real house. Get out of it. Still her house. Still
nobody's invited. Gets to walk around creepy in front of it
all Halloween. If she wants any different than a haunted house. Yeah, all these
people with decoration. She's just doing it herself.
>> Skylar (48:59):
Yeah, I was gonna say. The irony is that she's leaving this derelict house
to just basically look like the ideal
haunted house to go walk into and get scared
at.
>> Cameron (49:08):
Yeah, just like her father intended.
>> Skylar (49:11):
That's right. As, as this
quadruple group of characters walks home,
each to their respective houses. But before they do that as a
group, they're walking down the sidewalk, and James
reaches into his pumpkin, thing.
Bucket. And he pulls out the extra pack
that he got from the dentist guy. And
(49:31):
he hands it to Alex. He
says, I don't know about you guys. That was a lot
of fun.
>> Cameron (49:37):
Ella's already left.
Ella, you're supposed to stay with me. Ella. Hey, guys.
That was us.
that was a wild night. But you know what? That was
the best Halloween ever. Let's take a
big old group pic with our my new Kodak
camera.
Oh, and it's got a key, it's.
>> Skylar (49:54):
Got a timer on it. So you set the, like, three second timer,
and then you. You word up, and I'm like, okay, guys, let's do this. One,
two, three. And we all jump into the air.
>> Cameron (50:02):
And we freeze frame.
>> Skylar (50:03):
High five. As the camera goes off, and as.
>> Cameron (50:05):
It goes off in the corner, you see Ella walking the other direction.
No one noticed there.
Like, as you raise your arm up, you see underneath the arm,
under. Just walking like half a block away.
>> Mikayla (50:16):
I'm so gonna regret, like, our suit choice in high
school. I look like Gollum at this point.
>> Cameron (50:22):
Let'S be honest, I think the cab's like three quarters off just hanging off.
>> Skylar (50:25):
The back and that's how the scene fades
out.
