(00:00):
Oh s***. This one a tripler. We got
(00:01):
That's what she said.
She said what?
Huh?
What did she say?
Nothing.
Oh, I thought you were starting a show being all rude there.
Never.
It's the rap show, though. We made it to the end of another season.
Yep. And you're drinking.
Uh yeah, cuz it's the rap show and it's the weekend. It's technically daytime.
Yes.
But that's okay. Do
you mean technically daytime? It's daytime. It's definitely daytime.
Yeah, I suppose technically is um got nothing to do with it.
What are you drinking?
I Well, today Sarah, I'm glad you asked. I'm Drinking a unbranded cocktail or pina colada. It's 5% volume alcohols.
Cool.
It's nice.
I've got a decaf coffee again.
But you had all that sugar in that lip tonight earlier.
I did. It was too much.
(00:22):
You were wired and being all weird. So, should we just record? And you were like, "Yeah, right.
I need to expend this excess energy somewhere."
But it's the end of another one. So, it's season 11 this time. Wow.
To say it every time, but they are absolutely absolutely flying by now.
Um, this was your season.
Yep.
You're back on to the odd the odd number seasons now. And you chose the theme of drugs. Uh, uh, which carried with it an awful lot of baggage, I guess, didn't it?
Um,
in some of the heavy heavy film choices.
I mean, you can say that about most of my seasons, though.
You can.
There's always some bleak s*** in there.
Yeah. I'm surprised that there wasn't as much incest in this season as there has been in other seasons,
right?
Yeah.
Only One incident.
Only one.
And that's not on me. That's on Gasper. No way.
Yeah. I blame everything on Gasper. No way. I think
climate change. Gasper. No way.
Yeah.
(00:43):
It's all the neon he uses in his films.
Heating up the goddamn planet
with all those neon signs.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh on that subject, what was the uh what was the lineup, Sarah? What did you start with? And
I have to remember them all. Good lord. So, we started with Train SP. cutting.
Yeah.
Then I believe we went on to synchronic.
Our first Benson and Hedges.
Benson and Hedges.
Benson Morgate. Benson.
Morehead and Benson.
Morehead and Benson.
Then Lambert and Bowler.
Um, what was number three?
Go.
Oh, of course it was. Yeah. Um, that to force performance from Desmond there.
All time. Should have got an Oscar nom.
Yeah.
Oh god. God. Then climax.
(01:04):
Then climax.
The midway point. Yeah, of course. Then
was it Broke Down Palace?
Yep.
Then Pineapple Express.
Yeah.
Request
and Fear and Loathing.
We finished on Fear and Loathing. Yeah.
Yes.
So, uh, quite a lineup there. You tried to spread out the kind of the because it's something you always do, isn't it? You try to within the choices the emotional devastation with some stoner humor.
Yeah. Yeah, you sort of try to mix up the the genres if you can and the sort of things that the films are talking about and and also like the different types of drugs that you try to uh isolate in in each of the each of the episodes.
I tried.
Talk us through what what drugs we did this season.
Well, we did we started with heroin straight out the gate on the smack.
Usually it's like weed is the gateway drug.
You'd think
people have the weed and then immediately that next day they're like I can't wait to do more heroin.
Yeah. Stick that needle in me.
But we started with heroin.
Mhm.
(01:25):
Uh yeah. So, we're trying to do it the other way around. It's probably the better way round,
I think. So, um and then we went straight on to an imaginary drug um that helps you time travel.
Yeah, it's handy handy handy side effect of a drug. I think
a handy side effect.
Yeah, if you can harness the power of it, not if you just end up in some random time with a mammoth about to stand on your head.
Yeah, I think
that's probably not ideal.
It's handy if you want to end up in like statistically improbable time zones.
Yeah.
Um then ecstasy I guess go.
Yes. And um mostly ecstasy. There was a lot of chat about 20 hits of X or something. 20 or 20 and the was the lexicon verbiage they were using in that movie. Every other line was 20 or 20.
Yeah. And then we moved on to LSD.
We did
which
I think that had the most amount of it's close. I was going to say the most volume of drugs in all of our movies.
Oh no.
But there was a massive sangria. I guess spoilers for all of the movies that we cover.
That's kind of a given at this point.
Uh but there was a massive sangria bowl full of LSD. I suppose there's a bit of sangria in it.
Yeah. Some fruit in there as well. Some of your five a day. It's not all bad.
Yeah.
(01:46):
Um Yeah. And then we moved on to well kind of no drugs in Broke Down Palace. They didn't do any drugs.
They didn't do them. They did some They did some light ones
and then they got told off for trying to transport.
They got told off.
They were mules. They were they someone tried to make them a mules.
Yeah.
For the drugs transport.
Wow.
In a different in a foreign country. That's weird. Yes. And aren't they archaic and or what? You know, that was that movie basically, wasn't it?
Little bit xenophobic. Yeah. Little bit racist. Um But there were some drugs in it.
There was some there was a drug. Yes. Um and also a Pullman.
Oh, of course. That was the main reason that it was in the uh in the lineup, isn't it?
No, actually fixation with Pullman. Both Papa and Junior.
Yes. But I did program that lineup before that was sort of sparked.
Before that was a thing.
Yeah.
Yeah. What started it?
Thunderballs.
No hesitation. Was it that century? costume at the end.
Did you see his abs? Come on.
Um, and then we moved on to Oh, what was next? Oh, weed.
(02:07):
Yeah.
Yeah. So, we we backtracked a little bit. We went back.
We did
several drug classes.
Yeah. Well, I think you sort of said, "Well, there's been a couple of depressing ones now. A couple on a bounce.
Why don't we try and do a comedy?" You said,
"Yeah, because historically comedies have been harder. to talk about.
Yeah.
So, I wanted to try and challenge ourselves to get over that because there are so many comedies that are worth talking about. We need to figure out a way to do that.
Yeah, definitely. Like Nikki Nikki, for example.
Yeah. God, it's always mentioned. Um, yeah. I mean, it's didn't go over brill brilliantly. You didn't love that one, but it's impossible to do a drug season without putting a stoner comedy in there. There had to be one.
And I suppose that is the most if you're going to do a stoner comedy, And you probably maybe we'll cover another stoner comedy at some point, but if in all honesty it might be the only stoner comedy.
I think it might be a one and done. Yeah.
So probably do the one that was most successful that that that hit a mill$undred million dollars or whatever and wanted a sequel to
wild
and was just a bit sort of mediocre.
Well, I liked it.
It was it was fine.
Um and then we moved on to prescription drugs
and also multitude of other street drugs. Mostly heroin,
I think. So,
(02:28):
there's quite a lot of heroin this season.
Yeah.
And then we did uh everything.
Yeah.
Under the sun.
Yeah.
Measculine, cocaine,
ether.
Ether.
Adrenone.
Yeah. Oh my god.
Literally everything.
Yeah. We had flee doing drugs off the sleeve of our jackets.
Mhm.
In a in a men's bathroom.
He didn't even know he was acting.
No.
Didn't even know there was a camera on him.
No. He's just like, "All right, Johnny."
Yeah.
Business is usual is it?
(02:49):
I think we kind of covered the gamut.
Yeah, I think you did well. You did it did a a range of drugs, both fictional and real.
Yeah.
And kind of the different intensities of that as well. Kind of your more light-hearted stoner comedy where this thing's not really a problem to your like societal issues, things like
got an arm off.
Yeah. Real addiction and consequences of that.
So, it was Yeah, it was a it was a it was a journey. It wasn't as In all seriousness, as bleak as I probably made it out to be initially,
I think you were a little bit tentative to approach this subject when I suggested drugs because the reason I wanted to do that as a theme is because you'd never seen Reququum for a Dream.
Yeah.
So, I was like, you have to see it. You have to
I have to. Yeah.
Genuinely, like I I didn't expect it to be something you would love, but I feel like in order to have that as part of your reference. You needed to see it. As somebody talks about films, it's good to have that as a comparison point.
Yeah, I suppose. So, it was it I mean, I did enjoy it as well. I did I did like it.
Amazingly.
Yeah. I It was a very good movie,
but it's one that always makes lists of like a thousand films you've got to see before you die, that sort of thing. So,
yeah. And I suppose again, like you have to put it in your drug season, really, don't you?
Yeah. What else?
Yeah. Where else are you going to put it?
Possessed refrigerators. It's going to limit you, you know? Christopher McDonald season.
It's not the worst idea you've had.
(03:10):
I have had way worse ideas. You're absolutely right. Yeah.
Yeah. So, I quite like the lineup and I'm I'm glad we didn't end on a really dark one.
Yeah. I suppose the natural point maybe might have been to lean towards putting RQ for a dream at the end. Do you know what? I think I'm just going to always call it RQ for a dream now on my brain doesn't even realize that I'm doing it anymore. what it's called. Um I suppose that I don't know I might have been tempted to end on that had I was programming that in which would have been unlikely but we'll get to that later. Probably would have chosen to end on that. But I'm glad that you did end on fear and loan. It was a nice way to go out because as you pointed out that we went through all of the different types of substances and different sort of uh intensities of addiction and and that sort of thing and we ended on just a couple of guys that are doing everything and just completely like three day complete blowout, no sleep, every single drug you can think of.
Just going absolutely insane. So, it felt like a good a good blowout.
Yeah.
Yeah. I I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the movie very much. It's been a while since I've seen it as well.
Do you know what? I'd convinced myself I'd only seen it once, but when we watched it, it was so so very familiar. So, I think I must have seen it a few times.
Yeah.
And just forgotten.
It's visually very striking though, isn't it? It's quite It's very memor. It's very distinct and I think unique in its perspective uh both thematically and how it's shot as well. It's got a very uh specific thing that it's doing although as you pointed out there's not really a story.
No, what's the plot?
Yeah.
No, we covered some quite interesting filmmakers this time. Some some big names as well like Danny Bole.
We've already mentioned Mohead and Benson, Terry Gilliam. Big big names. Gasper Knoway, Darren Aronowski. These aren't just like nobodyies.
No, they they're not your Reny Harlins, are they?
No.
