شهرت اولوف پالمه در ایران بیشتر به این سببه که وی در سال ۱۹۸۰ از سوی سازمان ملل متحد به عنوان میانجی میان جنگ ایران و عراق برگزیده شد ، پالمه را پدر سوئد مدرن و معمار جامعه رفاه در این کشور میدانند و جالب اینکه در ترور معماگونه او هم دو تئوری مطرح که به ایران مربوطه دیده میشه : اول داستان نقش فردی به نام امیر حیدری رییس یک باند قاچاق انسان به اروپا و آمریکا و دیگری ماجرای رسوایی مک فارلین و جریان ایران کنترا که ارتباط مستقیم به فروش تسلیحات نظامی از سوی ایالات متحده به ایرانِ در حال جنگ دارد.
