[raj] (00:00):
all right the ninth gate released

[shishir] (00:03):
yeah

[raj] (00:03):
in nineteen ninety nine so i really like this movie and it's

[shishir] (00:07):
yeah

[raj] (00:08):
this one is a different one because normally when we do the pa i've seen
the movie before i know that when you and i did something wild um that
was the first time you watched it but

[shishir] (00:20):
yep

[raj] (00:20):
i've seen it before

[shishir] (00:21):
ye

[raj] (00:21):
and this movie is actually the first time i watched it

[shishir] (00:24):
okay

[raj] (00:25):
and m and i've always loved roman plank movies i haven't seen all of his
movies um but i have not seen this one and it was released in nineteen
ninety nine and nineteen ninety nine was an incredible year for movies so

[shishir] (00:41):
is

[raj] (00:42):
at the end of the pot i'll have to give the list of movies that
came out in ninety nine but

[shishir] (00:46):
ah

[raj] (00:47):
this movie reminds me of old movie like the old movies from the four it's
in the fifty especially the first hour

[shishir] (00:54):
ah

[raj] (00:54):
um like the acting and the dialogue they're muted and that was i think that
was done on purpose like the lines being delivered by johnny yap and frank lanjella
like they're not over overacted

[shishir] (01:09):
yes

[raj] (01:09):
and if anything they're being under delivered and along with the lining and the mood
reminded me of a film nor

[shishir] (01:18):
yeah

[raj] (01:18):
and i love film norris and i found this movie more mystery and thriller than
horror

[shishir] (01:26):
yeah

[raj] (01:26):
even though it involves the devil or the devil is lurking

[shishir] (01:32):
m

[raj] (01:33):
and but i think palansky intended the movie to be that way he's always been
a ittle bit more suspense and horror mean suspense and mystery though i mean he
did direct rosemary's baby which is like a different type of horror movie

[shishir] (01:47):
i

[raj] (01:47):
um so you don't get like the cheap thrills that you normally get from horror
movies but at the same time you know this thing and like i never feared
for de corso being killed and

[shishir] (02:00):
eh

[raj] (02:02):
it's not that he wasn't likable but

[shishir] (02:05):
m

[raj] (02:06):
i don't even think he elf like himself

[shishir] (02:10):
m

[raj] (02:10):
and i don't even know if he even cared for his own life that much

[shishir] (02:13):
yeah

[raj] (02:14):
and in that way it kind of makes the movie a little funny

[shishir] (02:17):
m

[raj] (02:17):
because nothing phases him he's like a rare book researcher finder part detective part evaluator
he's also a little bit a con man

[shishir] (02:31):
yeah

[raj] (02:32):
maybe quite a bit and but courser doesn't get too hung up with stuff like
his apartment gets broken into

[shishir] (02:40):
yeah

[raj] (02:40):
and she's a nest everywhere he doesn't think much of it

[shishir] (02:46):
yep

[raj] (02:47):
he evalized oh you know i got a stash his book at my quote friend
my partner owns a book store um then leona comes over and he has sex
with her and then she goes crazy and attacks him knocks him unconscious of course
i just wakes up the next day

[shishir] (03:08):
yeah

[raj] (03:10):
and freshes it off and continues on with his vision uh the same i mean
he was a little surprise i would say her face when he saw his friend
or his partner at the book store get killed

[shishir] (03:25):
yeah

[raj] (03:25):
but he tends to brush that off fairly quickly um he's phase by the blond
girl keep showing up

[shishir] (03:35):
yeah

[raj] (03:35):
in different locations and even in different cities

[shishir] (03:39):
yeah

[raj] (03:39):
different countries he almost gets killed when the scalfading from a building always falls on
it

[shishir] (03:48):
m

[raj] (03:48):
it's like he has a death wish and i wonder if corso
you know they said he is in it for the money but i wonder if
he even likes the money it seems like he just kind of going through life
he michael waves his food with the box in it

[shishir] (04:07):
yeah

[raj] (04:08):
and so we know he doesn't care about food

[shishir] (04:11):
yeah

[raj] (04:11):
he's not a food

[shishir] (04:13):
m

[raj] (04:13):
he's got no girl friend no wife no real friends and you know it kind
of makes me think that it makes sense why the girl wins corso alive and
wants him open and walk through the night gate um oh it's a person that's

(04:37):
not like evil but he's

[shishir] (04:39):
yeah

[raj] (04:39):
not really good maybe multiple

[shishir] (04:44):
yeah

[raj] (04:44):
where like frank la jella who's great in this role and i couldn't get over
his hair

[shishir] (04:50):
yeah

[raj] (04:51):
i don't know if that was a hair piece but just loved it

[shishir] (04:54):
oh

[raj] (04:54):
but he seems too eager to meet

[shishir] (04:56):
yes

[raj] (04:56):
the devil

[shishir] (04:57):
oh

[raj] (04:59):
and he would be the wrong choice

[shishir] (05:01):
ah

[raj] (05:02):
i think to walk through the gate um and so theah that's what i thought
this movie was kind of like i don't know five love love this movie like
if i had to give a star

[shishir] (05:16):
yeah

[raj] (05:16):
my first inclination is out of four stars i've given to three

[shishir] (05:20):
m

[raj] (05:20):
but more i think about it and i'm talking to you i like i want
to give it a three and a half

[shishir] (05:26):
it's nice

[raj] (05:28):
so i just i liked it because it was just i really like the character
corso because he was just so in phase by everything

[shishir] (05:39):
yeah

[raj] (05:39):
yah

[shishir] (05:41):
that's a really interesting really interesting observation that you made actually you know one of
the things that i immediately

[raj] (05:48):
ye

[shishir] (05:49):
thought about courses care or versus all the other characters in this like ninth gate
universe was that he was detached from the world so to speak everyone else

[raj] (06:03):
oh

[shishir] (06:04):
had something that they really wanted like they were very either extremist

[raj] (06:11):
oh

[shishir] (06:12):
or they like you know for for some particular aspect where there is for a
collection of rare books or in that cult society worshiping this so called lucifer

[raj] (06:25):
yeah

[shishir] (06:26):
character but he was the only

[raj] (06:29):
oh

[shishir] (06:29):
one and actually even there's so many other things i want to talk about it
but even then the nicer characters

[raj] (06:36):
oh

[shishir] (06:37):
they had some kind of

[raj] (06:40):
yeah

[shishir] (06:40):
attachment to life so to speak

[raj] (06:42):
yeah

[shishir] (06:44):
either interest in doing something like day to day like that's good but but yeah
so what you're actually

[raj] (06:53):
oh

[shishir] (06:53):
describing was something that i also kind of

[raj] (06:56):
oh

[shishir] (06:56):
saw and it i think johnnie deppe

[raj] (06:59):
oh

[shishir] (07:00):
does such a great job at showing show casing that type of character

[raj] (07:06):
m

[shishir] (07:06):
behavior i it's very hard to do right like you you know a lot of
people should

[raj] (07:12):
oh

[shishir] (07:12):
like the hero or

[raj] (07:15):
yeah

[shishir] (07:15):
the protagonist will will you know in some sense show emotion or or what not
but it's literally

[raj] (07:25):
m

[shishir] (07:25):
you know like you said it just doesn't really

[raj] (07:27):
oh

[shishir] (07:27):
phase of anything

[raj] (07:29):
yeah

[shishir] (07:29):
in the any

[raj] (07:29):
oh

[shishir] (07:30):
encounter any any danger any reward it's like okay yeah great yeah

[raj] (07:37):
and when he takes it to one level i mean he doesn't not just play
the street man use the word detached i mean he just playing somebody that's detached
and i actually kind of like um johnny get when he plays like the more
straight man or the this type of role is supposed because he does have a

(07:58):
history of playing like characters are just off beat benny in june prior to the
caribbean i mean a lot of ike i would saying moe than half his movies
are like that but he

[shishir] (08:11):
yes

[raj] (08:11):
does like johnny brasscois like one of my favorite movies and he plays a straight
man

[shishir] (08:15):
yeah

[raj] (08:15):
and in this movie kind of a straight man more detached and

[shishir] (08:20):
yes

[raj] (08:20):
i thought it was really good it was a great choice

[shishir] (08:23):
there's

[raj] (08:23):
oh

[shishir] (08:24):
a couple of theories i want to tell you later in the podcast but but
yeah i mean

[raj] (08:28):
oh we should definitely talk about the ending maybe halfway through we get to this
pot because

[shishir] (08:33):
yeah

[raj] (08:34):
we can talk a lot about the ending yeah

[shishir] (08:36):
yeah definitely

[raj] (08:37):
yeah

[shishir] (08:37):
i just the the other thing that

[raj] (08:40):
ah

[shishir] (08:40):
i found so just beautiful

[raj] (08:43):
ah

[shishir] (08:43):
about the movie was the sound

[raj] (08:44):
oh

[shishir] (08:46):
it's just

[raj] (08:47):
yeah

[shishir] (08:48):
you know some scenes you don't have any background music

[raj] (08:51):
oh

[shishir] (08:52):
and the the different different objects that make sounds

[raj] (08:56):
oh

[shishir] (08:57):
specifically like books or what not just rustling of of leaves or or you know
something moving on the floor like you know like for example the bookshop just everything
was just done

[raj] (09:10):
oh

[shishir] (09:10):
so well and even just the regular music that they use throughout

[raj] (09:14):
the score

[shishir] (09:15):
was very like just good

[raj] (09:18):
oh

[shishir] (09:19):
i love that the selections that they did with the kind of the different instruments

[raj] (09:24):
you talked about the sound like the pages roughly that's a very polansky thing i
think and

[shishir] (09:29):
yes

[raj] (09:29):
he does a great job and the score i even noted it like i love
the

[shishir] (09:33):
m

[raj] (09:33):
score yeah

[shishir] (09:35):
before this movie actually i didn't really think much about books

[raj] (09:38):
yes

[shishir] (09:38):
in terms of like

[raj] (09:39):
oh

[shishir] (09:40):
you know just stuff that you study from like

[raj] (09:42):
oh

[shishir] (09:43):
school or things that you like you know fiction fantasy book that you read after
watching

[raj] (09:49):
h

[shishir] (09:49):
this i was like wow there's like i looked this up a bit there's a
pretty large secondary market on on

[raj] (09:56):
yeah

[shishir] (09:56):
rare books and things that people like collecting

[raj] (09:59):
yeah oh

[shishir] (10:00):
i think one of the one

[raj] (10:01):
oh

[shishir] (10:01):
of the earlier editions of the bible for example is goes for a huge

[raj] (10:04):
oh

[shishir] (10:04):
amount of money just because that's you know there's not many copies of that available
but i'm one of the because i was cited in the in the movie that
donquiote um that

[raj] (10:15):
yep

[shishir] (10:15):
that as i looked that up there's not

[raj] (10:17):
ah

[shishir] (10:17):
many copies where they're in good condition

[raj] (10:18):
yeah

[shishir] (10:20):
around that same same year same time that they were talking

[raj] (10:23):
yeah

[shishir] (10:23):
about in the movie so i was

[raj] (10:24):
oh

[shishir] (10:24):
like wow i just found it very fascinating ly i m having new found appreciation

[raj] (10:31):
kay

[shishir] (10:31):
for

[raj] (10:31):
oh

[shishir] (10:32):
for like rare books because it's it's just another it's a it is kind of
a work of art to the sense

[raj] (10:39):
i

[shishir] (10:39):
right like you have at that during that period of time there's a specific type
of paper that was used and it's just like the type of ink that used
for the print and all this stuff just very cool overall

[raj] (10:52):
m

[shishir] (10:52):
on

[raj] (10:53):
yeah and it was a different time back then i mean we don't you don't
have the manufacturing capabilities that you do have now

[shishir] (11:00):
yeah

[raj] (11:01):
and so being able to make a book for hard cover was a lot

[shishir] (11:07):
yeah

[raj] (11:07):
of work and effort

[shishir] (11:08):
lot of

[raj] (11:08):
you

[shishir] (11:08):
work

[raj] (11:08):
know

[shishir] (11:09):
out

[raj] (11:09):
you didn't have all the machines that we have now

[shishir] (11:12):
yeah i just

[raj] (11:15):
yeah

[shishir] (11:16):
very

[raj] (11:17):
oh

[shishir] (11:18):
type of subject or topic you know there's a lot

[raj] (11:20):
oh

[shishir] (11:21):
of movies that are about you know the lucifer devil or whatever and what not
and you know they tend to be more action or even

[raj] (11:30):
ah

[shishir] (11:30):
to you know like but this is more like a game of the mind so
so speak and i was very fascinated by this kind of mystery thriller

[raj] (11:43):
yeah you know it usually and i'm trying you know my movie knowledge movies with
the devil or it's not extensive but i come back to maybe you can help
me with the name of the movie the one with patino cana reeves

[shishir] (11:58):
yeah

[raj] (11:58):
um

[shishir] (11:58):
when is the

[raj] (12:00):
constantine or

[shishir] (12:02):
c

[raj] (12:02):
no

[shishir] (12:02):
was at that kenerives did do which didn't include the devil but this one was
a devil's advocate

[raj] (12:07):
devil's advocate which i enjoyed and

[shishir] (12:09):
still

[raj] (12:09):
i think alpathino is the devil and so you do see that and there is
that kind of like scene where he shows great power

[shishir] (12:18):
yep yep

[raj] (12:20):
and there's other movies i think that's where like how the devil shows up but

[shishir] (12:24):
yeah

[raj] (12:24):
this movie very

[shishir] (12:25):
yeah

[raj] (12:25):
much kind of like rosemary's baby where

[shishir] (12:27):
yeah

[raj] (12:28):
the devil is kind of in the background i think rosemary baby the baby is
the devil and in this movie we'll get into the theories a little bit later
on but it's just it's not really showing its power there's no like there's

[shishir] (12:43):
yeah

[raj] (12:43):
a chase scene here and there but it's not with the devil

[shishir] (12:46):
exactly

[raj] (12:48):
m

[shishir] (12:49):
fascinating

[raj] (12:50):
eh

[shishir] (12:52):
you know the i think this is probably one of my favorite movies just in
that type of that that subject matter so to speak and you know you could
you could technically just replace lucifer with just some any any supernatural undertate but

[raj] (13:08):
yeah

[shishir] (13:09):
the thing i liked

[raj] (13:09):
yeah

[shishir] (13:09):
about this was you know it wasn't

[raj] (13:12):
yeah oh

[shishir] (13:12):
really in my opinion like a religious

[raj] (13:14):
yeah

[shishir] (13:14):
story it was more just that there is a supernatural

[raj] (13:17):
oh

[shishir] (13:18):
character that is associated with like

[raj] (13:20):
yeah

[shishir] (13:21):
know the negative side of

[raj] (13:24):
yeah

[shishir] (13:24):
humanity so to speak where it has more negative types of characteristics but not

[raj] (13:30):
yeah

[shishir] (13:30):
like it

[raj] (13:31):
oh

[shishir] (13:31):
it is ultimately the humans that do the bad stuff if you

[raj] (13:36):
he

[shishir] (13:36):
if you really see the think about it like

[raj] (13:38):
oh

[shishir] (13:38):
in the story franklin jealous character boris you know vulcan

[raj] (13:44):
balkan

[shishir] (13:44):
he

[raj] (13:45):
yep

[shishir] (13:45):
m it's not like he's under the influence of lucifer and he's pretty much just
a fanatic phenomenal

[raj] (13:55):
oh

[shishir] (13:55):
phenol performance

[raj] (13:57):
so good

[shishir] (13:57):
yeah and then even

[raj] (14:01):
yeah

[shishir] (14:01):
telfer liana telfer she's

[raj] (14:04):
yep

[shishir] (14:05):
just also

[raj] (14:06):
oh

[shishir] (14:06):
like an extremist who is just completely upset with this whole thing if you think

[raj] (14:11):
she's

[shishir] (14:11):
about

[raj] (14:11):
like

[shishir] (14:11):
it

[raj] (14:11):
psychotic

[shishir] (14:13):
yeah

[raj] (14:13):
and where she's more kind of like

[shishir] (14:15):
yeah

[raj] (14:15):
a heated ist

[shishir] (14:16):
yeah

[raj] (14:16):
where she's wanting to have a good time she's there's probably a lot of sex
involved she just loves that where the ball balkan bors balkan

[shishir] (14:29):
yeah

[raj] (14:29):
he wants the power he also wants probably what's t
he wants to maybe live forever and

[shishir] (14:40):
exactly

[raj] (14:40):
have you now be able to have that kind of power god like devil like
power

[shishir] (14:44):
being mortal yeah

[raj] (14:45):
immortal that's it that was the word i was looking for

[shishir] (14:48):
oh

[raj] (14:48):
and

[shishir] (14:50):
yeah the humans end up doing more damage like

[raj] (14:54):
my

[shishir] (14:55):
the girl the mysterious girl right

[raj] (14:57):
yeah

[shishir] (14:57):
who's kind of falling course around i don't think she really i don't recall her
killing anybody um she protects corso um and she has like these like you know
she's gifted with some kind of power so you could assume that she's you know
she's she's either one of the lucifers you know servants or like somebody

[raj] (15:22):
oh

[shishir] (15:23):
that's like just a you know some kind of entity but that has some sort
of power but

[raj] (15:28):
she does not really she doesn't kill anybody and the only time we see her
kind of like get into a fight is when what when lianas partner or

[shishir] (15:42):
exactly

[raj] (15:42):
body guard or henchman uh comes and chases corso around

[shishir] (15:47):
yeah

[raj] (15:47):
and she uses justin s

[shishir] (15:50):
exactly

[raj] (15:51):
to get to create some space and i think she holds back because we see
it we see her i think fly or glide in the air like twice

[shishir] (16:00):
exactly

[raj] (16:01):
um

[shishir] (16:02):
to

[raj] (16:03):
corso does not

[shishir] (16:04):
yeah yeah

[raj] (16:05):
and i don't even know of course so she's like the roundhouse kick

[shishir] (16:10):
yeah

[raj] (16:10):
that happens

[shishir] (16:12):
m

[raj] (16:12):
um he may suspect that you know there is something he did but she purposely
stays behind during that chase when they

[shishir] (16:20):
yep

[raj] (16:20):
climb up the steps and all that so

[shishir] (16:22):
y yeah exactly i mean most of the movies that i

[raj] (16:25):
okay

[shishir] (16:25):
see any of these demons that are like enchmen of the devil or whatever a
lot of them they just do very evil deeds right there very they're very

[raj] (16:34):
oh

[shishir] (16:34):
clearly either they have no issues terms of killing or doing other bad types of
act in this case it was pretty much just that she was protecting really much

[raj] (16:46):
ah

[shishir] (16:46):
more about protection and not doing anything that would take another person's life and so

[raj] (16:51):
and also kind of like guiding corso

[shishir] (16:53):
exactly yep

[raj] (16:54):
because i wud say maybe about i wasn't sold on it but i would say
about twenty five twenty five or forty percent of way through the movie i was
saying she could be working for balkan

[shishir] (17:08):
yeah

[raj] (17:09):
or she could be working for someone else

[shishir] (17:11):
yeah

[raj] (17:12):
but half way through i was like okay it might be i'm not sure if
she's working for balkan anymore but

[shishir] (17:17):
yeah

[raj] (17:17):
like she guides him like she tells him when is it fargus the second the
guy that owned the second copy or that

[shishir] (17:29):
m

[raj] (17:29):
he she tells course and i was like hey you need to go there

[shishir] (17:34):
yeah

[raj] (17:34):
even points out and he's like drowned

[shishir] (17:37):
yep yep that's

[raj] (17:38):
um

[shishir] (17:38):
right

[raj] (17:40):
and so she's like kind of like getting him point him at the right track
path and uh she even stops corso from saving leon is what life

[shishir] (17:55):
yeah yeah that's right you're right i remember that yeah that scene was vulcan uh
yeah was joking and she told them do don't do it your life will be
your life will be over as well i think she was saying basically that he
would get killed

[raj] (18:11):
yeah

[shishir] (18:11):
if you if he did that at that moment yeah

[raj] (18:13):
yeah

[shishir] (18:14):
it's that's that's exactly it

[raj] (18:16):
well when we get to the ending i have so i have another theory on
why she saved him um but i love the line when she was like hey
balking just killed her and wide open in front of everybody you're off the hook

(18:37):
and i was thinking that though the whole movie i was like he wait a
minute coops don't really exist in this universe and course as walked away from every
murder scene

[shishir] (18:46):
yeah

[raj] (18:46):
even though we know we didn't do because we saw him not doing it usually
walked when someone but like he's there the fingerprints are if there's any witnesses he's
the last person leaving the room

[shishir] (18:58):
yeah that's right

[raj] (18:59):
he

[shishir] (19:00):
it's yeah

[raj] (19:00):
yeah

[shishir] (19:01):
that's the other aspect of

[raj] (19:03):
and i kind of like movies like that i mean i'm not saying this movies
anything like a tarantia movie but tarntino has this universe

[shishir] (19:10):
yeah

[raj] (19:10):
in that universe usually doesn't involve cops

[shishir] (19:14):
right right

[raj] (19:15):
and this universe has no cops

[shishir] (19:18):
ah

[raj] (19:20):
oh

[shishir] (19:21):
that's a good point i wouldn't

[raj] (19:23):
oh

[shishir] (19:23):
even know what cops would be able to do outside of

[raj] (19:26):
yeah

[shishir] (19:26):
yeah i

[raj] (19:26):
ah

[shishir] (19:26):
mean the

[raj] (19:27):
it would be a distraction i mean there have been movies where let's say in
this case course is not really like a good guy he's detached

[shishir] (19:37):
ye

[raj] (19:38):
and to the point where like i wanted to know what happened next but i
wasn't like overtly concerned of what happened to course

[shishir] (19:45):
yeah

[raj] (19:45):
and if you didn't have dimthine in the movie ave been like it's the movie
that's the choice they made i would be like oh no

[shishir] (19:52):
yeah

[raj] (19:52):
but a lot of times like they will let say have another another like a
side character like a detective

[shishir] (19:58):
ah

[raj] (19:59):
and a detective would be kind of a good guy and your detective is kind
of like you're moral conscious and you're kind of also get a point of view
from his view and they didn't have that

[shishir] (20:09):
yeah

[raj] (20:09):
and i think that was a good choice not to have that yeah

[shishir] (20:12):
kept the story focused that's

[raj] (20:14):
yeah

[shishir] (20:14):
true

[raj] (20:15):
nd there's not a whole lot of like characters in the movie i also like
i'm always kind of like

[shishir] (20:26):
ah

[raj] (20:26):
it may sometimes like if it's one thing if it's like a movie based on
a play of one room act you know i can understyouknow

[shishir] (20:34):
oh

[raj] (20:34):
but this is like this is happening in the city of paris you know

[shishir] (20:38):
yes

[raj] (20:39):
and in portugal uh

[shishir] (20:42):
yes

[raj] (20:42):
i don't know if it's paris but they're in paris right part

[shishir] (20:45):
yeah

[raj] (20:45):
parts of it yeah spain

[shishir] (20:47):
yes

[raj] (20:48):
and so yeah you just don't have a whole lot of speaking parts

[shishir] (20:54):
yeah it was very very tightly ely woven like good number of characters story i
love each of the people that that were introduced that owned the books the ninth
gate books

[raj] (21:10):
same here

[shishir] (21:11):
and it was just it was kind of cool because you're like oh this is
the collector

[raj] (21:14):
yeah

[shishir] (21:15):
and the way they talk about how passionate they

[raj] (21:17):
m

[shishir] (21:17):
are it's just that's

[raj] (21:19):
yeah

[shishir] (21:19):
when i was like you know i was like you know what i actually want
to start collecting our books

[raj] (21:23):
oh

[shishir] (21:23):
now because i was like this is pretty cool like i didn't realize this is
actually like a it's like coin collecting or you know some people have different hobbies
like stamp collecting or like some you know collect old old whiskeys from various countries
and things like that but this is like another you know another category of collectors

[raj] (21:45):
and they're all different like

[shishir] (21:48):
yeah

[raj] (21:49):
bulk in you know he's got he's got his books in a penthouse under through
like a door that's that's pin protected

[shishir] (21:59):
yeah

[raj] (21:59):
um

[shishir] (22:00):
yes

[raj] (22:00):
and then you have vargus who's got a country home and his books are just
laying

[shishir] (22:05):
a

[raj] (22:05):
on the floor and he

[shishir] (22:06):
yeah

[raj] (22:06):
even mentioned it you just like excuse the way i have it but this is
what i got but i clean them and maintain them every day

[shishir] (22:15):
yeah i know

[raj] (22:16):
and then and then you had gesler

[shishir] (22:20):
yeah

[raj] (22:21):
and she's more academic

[shishir] (22:24):
yep

[raj] (22:25):
yeah

[shishir] (22:27):
ah

[raj] (22:27):
with an office with a secretary probably has like a side job maybe teaches at
a university you know

[shishir] (22:35):
yes each each unique kind of personalities each individually interesting

[raj] (22:41):
yeh

[shishir] (22:42):
you know throughout the movies through

[raj] (22:44):
oh

[shishir] (22:44):
the cross of the movie i was actually when fargus was

[raj] (22:47):
yeah

[shishir] (22:48):
and then when kester was killed i actually thought that it was initially i thought
it was the girl the mysterious girl that was doing it because i was like
oh she has like the she has like this kind of extraordinary power extern abilities
and she doesn't seem you know you just automatically i think there's a bias because

(23:08):
at least for me when i

[raj] (23:09):
oh

[shishir] (23:09):
saw any movie that involved this concept of lucifer the

[raj] (23:14):
oh

[shishir] (23:14):
devil i just thought they're automatically like the ones that caused the mahamad stuff right

[raj] (23:20):
yeah

[shishir] (23:20):
which is the nice thing about this movie where

[raj] (23:22):
oh

[shishir] (23:23):
it's really not like

[raj] (23:25):
oh

[shishir] (23:25):
like those kind of biases

[raj] (23:26):
yes

[shishir] (23:27):
are i think what poleski probably fed into

[raj] (23:30):
yeah

[shishir] (23:31):
and used you know to surprise the audience in a sense because enid not being

[raj] (23:35):
ah

[shishir] (23:35):
then the serious girl that did

[raj] (23:37):
oh

[shishir] (23:38):
those murders

[raj] (23:40):
yeah

[shishir] (23:40):
and and in a way it also like kind of it made the story more
interesting beaus then you it's sort of you start out and it's like universe of
like you know like like let's say ten leven different characters is right airing it
down to like the final kind of like main players of this you know end
game you know to get into the get into the ninth gate and then it

(24:03):
really tightened up to see who the main kind of adversaries were in a sense

[raj] (24:09):
oh

[shishir] (24:10):
and yeah i just i love the

[raj] (24:14):
ah

[shishir] (24:14):
locations that they did the

[raj] (24:17):
oh

[shishir] (24:17):
i don't know if you noticed this but

[raj] (24:21):
yeah

[shishir] (24:21):
there's a painting that kan hasan is a is a library

[raj] (24:25):
yeah yeah

[shishir] (24:27):
where that's that that location is the location

[raj] (24:31):
oh

[shishir] (24:31):
of the ninth gate um and it's it's a chateau i think in paris somewhere
but i looked that up and i was like it's a real place and

[raj] (24:43):
yeah

[shishir] (24:43):
leskiwasscouting locations and he really liked that is the location

[raj] (24:48):
yeah

[shishir] (24:49):
for

[raj] (24:49):
ah

[shishir] (24:49):
for the for the final you puzzle location of that

[raj] (24:55):
ah

[shishir] (24:56):
so

[raj] (24:57):
okay

[shishir] (24:57):
i was very fascinating

[raj] (25:00):
yeah

[shishir] (25:00):
asplex of the movie did you did you have a particular like favorite scene

[raj] (25:06):
yeah i mean i have quite a few let's talk about some favorite scenes and
then we should definitely talk about the ending

[shishir] (25:13):
ah

[raj] (25:13):
so i like every scene with balkan with franklin

[shishir] (25:16):
yes

[raj] (25:16):
he's great in this movie

[shishir] (25:18):
yeah

[raj] (25:18):
he has this kind of like presence around him he's tall really tall there's this
great scene or it's kind of no nothing scene but when he walks into i
think into the elevator or not the elevator but maybe it's to the collection of
where his books are

[shishir] (25:37):
ah

[raj] (25:37):
i thought he would have to hunch down because his head

[shishir] (25:39):
a

[raj] (25:40):
is like that close

[shishir] (25:42):
yeah

[raj] (25:42):
from the top so he's a tall imposing figure and it shows in the movie

[shishir] (25:49):
ah

[raj] (25:51):
and so i love just every scene with him i even

[shishir] (25:53):
yeah

[raj] (25:54):
like the scenes where you see you don't even see him he's off screen and

[shishir] (25:58):
oh

[raj] (25:59):
of course i was talking to him on the phone

[shishir] (26:01):
yes

[raj] (26:02):
and he always ends up like just hanging up or leave and courses

[shishir] (26:08):
yeah

[raj] (26:09):
like hello

[shishir] (26:10):
yeah

[raj] (26:10):
or answer question it would be just like dead

[shishir] (26:12):
yeah

[raj] (26:12):
air

[shishir] (26:13):
yeah

[raj] (26:18):
i also liked going to back to the begining of the movie i also like
the owner of the rare book shop burney ornstein played by james

[shishir] (26:26):
s

[raj] (26:26):
russo um he's got it great face

[shishir] (26:30):
yeah

[raj] (26:30):
and that's what i really think you know if you have a face like that
you don't have to be a good looking guy but he's a good looking guy
but you got to have a great face you would be a great character actor
and

[shishir] (26:40):
yeah

[raj] (26:40):
he's a great character actor

[shishir] (26:43):
yeah

[raj] (26:43):
and he's also great donne borasco another movie with johnnie

[shishir] (26:46):
yep

[raj] (26:46):
dep

[shishir] (26:47):
ye oh

[raj] (26:49):
and then i also like how corso is like smoking cigarettes everywhere

[shishir] (26:54):
yeah

[raj] (26:55):
um

[shishir] (26:56):
yes

[raj] (26:56):
and i kept thinking i was like you know it's a little half hazard smoking
those cigarettes with those like while you're handling or investigating those

[shishir] (27:05):
yeah

[raj] (27:06):
very expensive and sometimes priceless rare books oh

[shishir] (27:10):
ye yes exactly

[raj] (27:13):
you know it's like you ash and you know the ash could be still on
fire

[shishir] (27:19):
yep definitely causes

[raj] (27:21):
oh

[shishir] (27:21):
damage and stuff like that for sure

[raj] (27:24):
so and then i like the score and then
i like the ritual scene which we can explain ittle bit more when we talk
about the indian but i wasn't expecting balkan to walk right in and when he
walks right in it's

[shishir] (27:39):
i

[raj] (27:39):
just

[shishir] (27:39):
know

[raj] (27:40):
he just takes charge mumbo

[shishir] (27:42):
yeah

[raj] (27:42):
jumbo mumbo jumbo

[shishir] (27:44):
yeah

[raj] (27:45):
and then i got one little scene i got to mention that just thought was
funny during the car chase

[shishir] (27:50):
do

[raj] (27:51):
um and when corse's car gets stuck in the muddy water

[shishir] (27:55):
yeah

[raj] (27:56):
he just gets out

[shishir] (27:58):
yeah

[raj] (27:58):
and he gets his stuff and he just like and he

[shishir] (28:02):
yeah

[raj] (28:02):
walks to the nearest kaffir establishment

[shishir] (28:04):
yeah

[raj] (28:05):
nothing phases him

[shishir] (28:06):
the phases phases that's like literally the most even keel like you know guy

[raj] (28:12):
yeah

[shishir] (28:12):
character i've ever seen in any any like t v show movie ever

[raj] (28:17):
same

[shishir] (28:17):
like

[raj] (28:17):
here and he doesn't

[shishir] (28:19):
oh

[raj] (28:19):
even try to get the car started again

[shishir] (28:21):
yep

[raj] (28:22):
or

[shishir] (28:22):
yeah

[raj] (28:23):
he doesn't try to push the car he just it gets stuck

[shishir] (28:27):
yep

[raj] (28:27):
and i think that was done on per if it was not of the script
it was something that plant was like we're going to leave it there it's funny
and i'm

[shishir] (28:35):
yeah

[raj] (28:35):
not sure how i would play in a packed house but i thought i was
hilarious

[shishir] (28:40):
yeah

[raj] (28:40):
do you

[shishir] (28:41):
exactly

[raj] (28:41):
have any favorite scenes

[shishir] (28:42):
yeah

[raj] (28:42):
ah

[shishir] (28:43):
so i i mean just like you like i love practically all the various scenes
uh you know with balkan i mean he his like franklin jealous presence is to
me

[raj] (28:56):
so good

[shishir] (28:57):
just amazing like you just hear him talking and you're like i was like his
voice is just the perfect voice for radio or

[raj] (29:05):
oh

[shishir] (29:06):
whatever you just can't like you could read a audio book and i would listen
to that for hours and hours

[raj] (29:11):
same here

[shishir] (29:12):
yeah so i love every scene for me the one of the scenes that

[raj] (29:15):
eh

[shishir] (29:16):
keeps

[raj] (29:16):
so

[shishir] (29:17):
keep re

[raj] (29:17):
oh

[shishir] (29:17):
playing in my head and i just like just love that scene i

[raj] (29:21):
yeah

[shishir] (29:21):
could like actually watch it is when corso visits the the book store the what
the book the

[raj] (29:31):
yeah

[shishir] (29:32):
those italian italian brothers

[raj] (29:34):
yep

[shishir] (29:35):
it's i don't

[raj] (29:36):
the

[shishir] (29:36):
know if

[raj] (29:36):
sinse

[shishir] (29:36):
you

[raj] (29:37):
brothers

[shishir] (29:38):
yes yes they are so i don't know if you notice this but it's not
played by two actors its one single actor that does both those roles right and
there so like that at those characters are so funny the actor that plays the

(29:58):
brothers the same act basic brothers

[raj] (30:01):
oh

[shishir] (30:02):
is just phenomenal

[raj] (30:03):
o

[shishir] (30:04):
actor i think where did

[raj] (30:08):
oh

[shishir] (30:08):
he yah i think plank found him discovered something else but yeah the actor's name
is pose lopez roder

[raj] (30:15):
ah yeah

[shishir] (30:17):
but

[raj] (30:17):
yeah

[shishir] (30:18):
i watched that scene on hearing talk about like books

[raj] (30:21):
oh

[shishir] (30:21):
and just

[raj] (30:22):
oh

[shishir] (30:22):
like the way they were talking with corso very fascinating conversation

[raj] (30:27):
yeah

[shishir] (30:29):
i was like this is like just like a very like you know kind of
secretive

[raj] (30:33):
oh

[shishir] (30:34):
or very

[raj] (30:34):
yeah

[shishir] (30:35):
like very knowledgeable accumulated knowledge very wise people those characters and the way they were
talking to course so it was just so fascinating the sounds in that entire scene
in the in the book store

[raj] (30:51):
oh

[shishir] (30:53):
just the way the the scenery looked that environment just very beautiful

[raj] (30:59):
yeh

[shishir] (30:59):
over ike i just that's very memorable scene to me and it was only that

[raj] (31:05):
yeah

[shishir] (31:05):
that was the only time you you see those brothers right um

[raj] (31:10):
as

[shishir] (31:10):
only for a couple of minutes but

[raj] (31:12):
yeah

[shishir] (31:12):
then that was such a i don't know why i just had a huge

[raj] (31:15):
yeah

[shishir] (31:18):
have a huge impression on me

[raj] (31:19):
well they're the only characters in the movie with exception to maybe burney orange stein
the

[shishir] (31:26):
a

[raj] (31:26):
owner of the rare book shop in the beginning they kind of had like joy

[shishir] (31:31):
exactly yes yes

[raj] (31:32):
but no one else has got either there detached or power hungry crazy or you
know mysterious

[shishir] (31:45):
yeah

[raj] (31:45):
but the brothers they were joyful

[shishir] (31:49):
very yeah very joyful

[raj] (31:50):
ye

[shishir] (31:51):
they

[raj] (31:51):
oh

[shishir] (31:52):
they're normal and you know in a sense like they just had uh you know
some kind of i guess connection

[raj] (31:59):
as

[shishir] (32:00):
to the world so to speak but they should know uh obsession with the the
subject matter they were like well you know a great opportunity presented itself for us
to sell this book

[raj] (32:12):
oh

[shishir] (32:12):
so sold it

[raj] (32:14):
i was definitely thinking that like they weren't they never gave like when he showed
the book he learned you have the nine gate like they were just like wait
this is the book that we sold

[shishir] (32:24):
yeah that's yea and

[raj] (32:29):
yeah

[shishir] (32:29):
most all the other collectors they would not sell their copy i think telferheyeah whatever
he told bors backin bors balkan was telling course that he got it because he
he got he bought it from telford before telford on himself

[raj] (32:46):
yep

[shishir] (32:46):
and i

[raj] (32:48):
yeah

[shishir] (32:48):
i mean who knows why that ha and i suspect that balkan idiot threatened him
or who knows what like somehow none of those guys wanted to sell that copy
of their copy of the ninth

[raj] (33:02):
yeah

[shishir] (33:02):
gate

[raj] (33:03):
but

[shishir] (33:04):
and

[raj] (33:04):
telfer

[shishir] (33:04):
so

[raj] (33:04):
may have been the only one

[shishir] (33:06):
oh

[raj] (33:08):
maybe less interested in that book it was in something that

[shishir] (33:12):
yeah

[raj] (33:13):
we're not sure though because you know what he he hangs himself which is actually
a great opening scene

[shishir] (33:21):
yeah

[raj] (33:21):
he just hangs himself and i actually kind of like the way how the camera
moves

[shishir] (33:25):
yeah

[raj] (33:27):
so yeah we don't know much about him

[shishir] (33:30):
yeah

[raj] (33:30):
but we kind of get like a little here and there like he wasn't interested
in the ritual

[shishir] (33:36):
yep yep exactly

[raj] (33:37):
and it's

[shishir] (33:38):
why

[raj] (33:38):
we find out that his wife is

[shishir] (33:40):
yes

[raj] (33:40):
really more into the ritual and more into the book

[shishir] (33:43):
yep yep exactly she was the one that was you're right because in the in
the one of the scenes

[raj] (33:49):
oh

[shishir] (33:49):
with the onnectin with he brothers the brothers they said that

[raj] (33:53):
yeah

[shishir] (33:54):
telfer's wife is the one that was so one of them one of them mentioned
i think was it the camisa

[raj] (34:00):
yes

[shishir] (34:01):
brothers or one of the characters that corso when he was oh no it was
fergus i think it was fergus who said that telfer telfer's wife was the one
that wanted that book so he bought it for her

[raj] (34:14):
yeah

[shishir] (34:15):
so something definitely happened

[raj] (34:17):
came

[shishir] (34:17):
in that that relationship between husband and wife where

[raj] (34:21):
you know what i may be getting a little weeds here but i thought and
i'm not sure i'd have to watch it again but i thought that telfer leanna
had the book use the senias brother to sell it to her husband so therefore
she can get the money to buy to keep the chateau which is kind of
what kessler the third third owner of the third book or the other

[shishir] (34:46):
yeah

[raj] (34:46):
owner of the third copy i think she mentioned that and she mentioned that um

[shishir] (34:52):
a

[raj] (34:53):
but she was the one part of the ritual and she and the money to
fund her chateau

[shishir] (35:01):
m

[raj] (35:01):
and if telfer found out he what what liana was doing he would kill himself
and

[shishir] (35:08):
oh

[raj] (35:08):
that's when corso goes funny that you say that he killed himself

[shishir] (35:12):
m

[raj] (35:12):
last week

[shishir] (35:13):
god that's actually you know i missed that part of it yeah okay i think
that that explains explains a good good good portion of that yeah i just remember

[raj] (35:24):
a

[shishir] (35:24):
that exchange when they were talking how the telfer himself was not the one interested
in the book as more for his wife remember that part of it but i
think this is actually a great point that liana might have done something to try
to get to see if that chateau that's fascinating actually

[raj] (35:42):
it was like a throwaway line that kester said but

[shishir] (35:45):
yeah

[raj] (35:46):
it stuck out to me

[shishir] (35:48):
that's

[raj] (35:48):
oh

[shishir] (35:48):
that's that's actually great great observation

[raj] (35:51):
yeah

[shishir] (35:51):
i'm gonna have to

[raj] (35:52):
a

[shishir] (35:52):
i'm gonna watch that part

[raj] (35:53):
oh

[shishir] (35:53):
but that explains a lot then

[raj] (35:58):
hey so you won't take about the ending

[shishir] (36:01):
yeah yeah

[raj] (36:01):
yes

[shishir] (36:01):
let's talk about the ending

[raj] (36:02):
so when i saw the ending

[shishir] (36:04):
oh

[raj] (36:05):
and then m we find

[shishir] (36:08):
oh

[raj] (36:08):
out so corso okaylone is that at first i was like when course when when
balkan lights himself on fire

[shishir] (36:21):
yeah

[raj] (36:22):
i actually liked it how he didn't feel the pain at first

[shishir] (36:25):
yeah

[raj] (36:25):
because he just so wanted it to not

[shishir] (36:28):
yeah

[raj] (36:28):
feel it and then you're like a waitin started feeling the pain

[shishir] (36:32):
ye

[raj] (36:32):
and and of course so shoots vulcan i was like well that's cold but going
on line i was just reading a little bit about it wanted to hear what
other people had to say and they were like oh he shot him to shoot
him out of his misery was

[shishir] (36:47):
yeah

[raj] (36:48):
like oh that makes sense

[shishir] (36:50):
yeah

[raj] (36:50):
and so he go s out and then he runs into the girl i think
or she's like and the girl um m have sex

[shishir] (37:02):
right

[raj] (37:05):
and that's to me is a very palanski thing i don't know if ou'vever seen
bitter moon

[shishir] (37:10):
and

[raj] (37:10):
but

[shishir] (37:10):
that way uh

[raj] (37:11):
that's actually a funny

[shishir] (37:12):
h

[raj] (37:12):
movie dark comedy but i think he has a lot of sex in his movies
or

[shishir] (37:19):
not

[raj] (37:20):
and so but there's a reason why he had it wasn't just to like oh
let's just have a sex scene it was you know one of the images in
the book is showing her naked

[shishir] (37:32):
exactly

[raj] (37:33):
and so then after he had sex it's like you know he doesn't think anything
of and he was like so what this is just all fake and he wasn't
i don't think he was convinced by this like

[shishir] (37:45):
yeah

[raj] (37:45):
he was probably more interested in why are these people interested

[shishir] (37:49):
oh

[raj] (37:50):
but

[shishir] (37:50):
right

[raj] (37:50):
i don't

[shishir] (37:50):
right

[raj] (37:50):
think he like the night game

[shishir] (37:52):
hm

[raj] (37:52):
whatever

[shishir] (37:54):
never never thought of meeting

[raj] (37:55):
because he so

[shishir] (37:55):
as

[raj] (37:55):
i pays he just doesn't

[shishir] (37:56):
yes

[raj] (37:57):
even

[shishir] (37:57):
oh

[raj] (37:58):
and then that's when she says ah well it didn't work as one was a
forgery

[shishir] (38:05):
yeah yeah

[raj] (38:07):
and so like you mentioned when you know we always see the sedisa's brothers once
but i was thinking i wonder if they're like the true culprite and it makes
sense they're the most joy people maybe they are the most evil but no no
she just he just sends him back there she just sends him back there to

(38:27):
go find the missing the missing image missing

[shishir] (38:31):
yeah

[raj] (38:31):
page um so anyways

[shishir] (38:34):
yeah

[raj] (38:34):
so when the ending happens you never see him do the ritual you never see
him do any spell but you know he does because he goes back to the
castle and you see the light now it's

[shishir] (38:47):
hm

[raj] (38:47):
a special effect and he walks right in and

[shishir] (38:49):
yep

[raj] (38:49):
when i was watching it and fade to black and then the credits go and
i was like so you know how look on on on the t v you
can find out how many minutes left and

[shishir] (39:00):
yeah

[raj] (39:00):
it was like three minutes left like

[shishir] (39:01):
yep

[raj] (39:02):
wait that's it

[shishir] (39:03):
yeah

[raj] (39:03):
so i went to see like is this like a marvel thing maybe there is
some like after credit stuff but no

[shishir] (39:10):
yep

[raj] (39:13):
and i was conflicted and i did say what

[shishir] (39:19):
yeah

[raj] (39:19):
the question mark

[shishir] (39:20):
yeah

[raj] (39:20):
but more i thought about it i kind of liked it

[shishir] (39:24):
ah

[raj] (39:24):
and i kind of felt

[shishir] (39:27):
ah

[raj] (39:27):
one i don't think because course was so detached i don't think he does served
to be the hero or have a happy ending and i think polanski knew that

[shishir] (39:37):
yes

[raj] (39:38):
uh and we don't get a sad or violent ending

[shishir] (39:42):
m

[raj] (39:42):
and i think that cully makes the movie better

[shishir] (39:45):
yeah

[raj] (39:45):
so there's so many loose ends and now there's gonna be a lot of thin
pieces

[shishir] (39:51):
yeah

[raj] (39:51):
what happened at the end and i wanted to hear your thoughts about the din
but then after your thought i wanted to i wanted to talk about like so
what do you think happens when he walks

[shishir] (40:03):
ah

[raj] (40:03):
in through that

[shishir] (40:04):
yeah

[raj] (40:05):
and we don't know because you know

[shishir] (40:07):
yeah

[raj] (40:07):
the movie just as

[shishir] (40:09):
i love the fact that they didn't show initially now i guess we're so used
to seeing

[raj] (40:13):
yeah

[shishir] (40:14):
everything laid out right like it doesn't really a lot more movies show like don't
leave as much room for imagination in some sense and

[raj] (40:24):
very

[shishir] (40:24):
so

[raj] (40:24):
few like no country for old men like

[shishir] (40:28):
yeah

[raj] (40:29):
that leaves a little

[shishir] (40:30):
m

[raj] (40:30):
like to doubt like you know

[shishir] (40:32):
yep

[raj] (40:33):
but

[shishir] (40:33):
m

[raj] (40:34):
same thing with this movie like we don't know but most movies you know the
indian they

[shishir] (40:38):
exactly

[raj] (40:38):
give you the ending and i

[shishir] (40:40):
very

[raj] (40:40):
think most people want the ending

[shishir] (40:42):
exactly even christopher nolan actually does this

[raj] (40:44):
oh

[shishir] (40:44):
pretty decently i think in

[raj] (40:45):
yeah

[shishir] (40:46):
some of his movies i know he did that with inception he did that

[raj] (40:51):
yeah

[shishir] (40:51):
with the ment to some degree um but yeah it's not not the common i
think it's sort of a probably an audience testing thing and studios then step in
and say no this ending is to

[raj] (41:07):
yeah

[shishir] (41:08):
to vague we need to have more clear kind of finality so that is satisfying
that's probably like a

[raj] (41:16):
ah

[shishir] (41:16):
like more of a studio

[raj] (41:17):
oh

[shishir] (41:17):
type of you know type

[raj] (41:20):
yeah

[shishir] (41:20):
of motivation but

[raj] (41:23):
oh

[shishir] (41:23):
but i love the way this ending was because it's like the whole point of
the movie was this adventure learning about what the nine different

[raj] (41:33):
yeah

[shishir] (41:35):
gates what

[raj] (41:36):
yeah

[shishir] (41:36):
they are not the gates but the nine different kind of puzzles

[raj] (41:40):
oh

[shishir] (41:41):
what they actually mean going through them

[raj] (41:43):
oh

[shishir] (41:44):
and and executing them and then at the end you know what happens

[raj] (41:49):
oh

[shishir] (41:49):
he gets admitted into this kind of supernatural

[raj] (41:52):
oh

[shishir] (41:53):
uh realm so to speak

[raj] (41:56):
yeah

[shishir] (41:57):
and i you know

[raj] (41:59):
did

[shishir] (41:59):
the thing

[raj] (41:59):
you

[shishir] (41:59):
that

[raj] (41:59):
like that though did you like how that ending wet

[shishir] (42:02):
i was like

[raj] (42:03):
m

[shishir] (42:03):
just seeing the ending when he's going walking i was so glad that they just
showed him only walking in and then they then they went to the credits because
it's

[raj] (42:12):
do

[shishir] (42:12):
like

[raj] (42:12):
you think

[shishir] (42:12):
you

[raj] (42:12):
it would have been better if they showed the ritual or not needed

[shishir] (42:16):
i don't you know so

[raj] (42:17):
yeah

[shishir] (42:18):
my thought about the ritual was this like

[raj] (42:20):
eh

[shishir] (42:20):
so okay balkan obviously was basing it off the fake manuscript or the fake

[raj] (42:29):
ye

[shishir] (42:30):
fake puzzle but

[raj] (42:32):
oh

[shishir] (42:32):
technically speaking he didn't have to set himself on fire he

[raj] (42:35):
he

[shishir] (42:35):
just did that because course kind of like

[raj] (42:38):
yeah

[shishir] (42:38):
sort of go to him he just said oh well if you're immortal now then
you can set yourself so you can put fire

[raj] (42:44):
yeah

[shishir] (42:45):
on you and you won't

[raj] (42:46):
was that what he said

[shishir] (42:47):
yeah yeah basically

[raj] (42:48):
oh wow missed that

[shishir] (42:49):
yeah so like vulcan was never meant like that that supposed ritual was never meant
for him to set himself

[raj] (42:57):
ah

[shishir] (42:57):
on fire he he all he did was like he read at some inscriptions on
that that ninth

[raj] (43:04):
oh

[shishir] (43:05):
supposed the final final puzzle and then like he you know just threw some stuff
down the floor and that's it right

[raj] (43:13):
oh

[shishir] (43:13):
but that was that was he also didn't

[raj] (43:15):
yeah

[shishir] (43:15):
one of the puzzles what is was to sleep with that i think they defined
that character the mysterious girl character as like the consort of the devil or something
like that like lucifer sort i

[raj] (43:31):
right

[shishir] (43:31):
can't remember exactly but that was one of the

[raj] (43:35):
i have a theory about that but go ahead

[shishir] (43:37):
ah that was we of the acts that was supposed to

[raj] (43:38):
oh

[shishir] (43:38):
happen that was part of the the the the process right and so so balkan
didn't do that so that but that that act corso did do that right

[raj] (43:50):
and

[shishir] (43:50):
so

[raj] (43:50):
that's

[shishir] (43:50):
i

[raj] (43:50):
because balkan didn't have that image right or

[shishir] (43:52):
in

[raj] (43:53):
yeah

[shishir] (43:53):
exactly and so

[raj] (43:55):
oh

[shishir] (43:56):
he didn't have that image neither did corso but the girl like you know she
had seen corso go through all those

[raj] (44:05):
oh

[shishir] (44:06):
like eight different puzzles and basic

[raj] (44:10):
yeah

[shishir] (44:10):
he survived um then

[raj] (44:12):
yeah

[shishir] (44:13):
the ninth one they

[raj] (44:14):
he

[shishir] (44:14):
you know

[raj] (44:14):
passed the test

[shishir] (44:16):
exactly pssitest

[raj] (44:17):
ah

[shishir] (44:17):
they do their thing in the ninth one and then that's it right but now
it's like okay where does he go right and so

[raj] (44:23):
yeah

[shishir] (44:24):
then she tells him you know if you still want to go you have

[raj] (44:27):
ah

[shishir] (44:27):
the choice this the actual final step is you know the puzzle is at you
know

[raj] (44:36):
m

[shishir] (44:36):
the brother's shop or whatever right

[raj] (44:38):
oh

[shishir] (44:38):
she tells them where to go get it and uh

[raj] (44:42):
oh

[shishir] (44:42):
so yeah actually he finds it and then he just

[raj] (44:44):
oh

[shishir] (44:44):
goes to that location uh that's it but

[raj] (44:51):
yeah

[shishir] (44:51):
we know one thing i noticed about this whole process was that um

[raj] (44:57):
yeah

[shishir] (44:57):
m it was

[raj] (44:57):
oh

[shishir] (44:58):
it was kind of ride like there's nobody else that could have entered the ninth
gate except for course

[raj] (45:04):
oh

[shishir] (45:05):
which to me meant that there's something about him that

[raj] (45:10):
oh

[shishir] (45:11):
he's somehow like connected to that no lucifer character in some way in my opinion
umanandyou know there's some people that have talked about this a bit terms of theories
but

[raj] (45:23):
oh

[shishir] (45:23):
you know it's a little

[raj] (45:25):
m

[shishir] (45:25):
bit hard to you know lensky

[raj] (45:27):
right

[shishir] (45:27):
doesn't talk about this stuff really that much so

[raj] (45:29):
oh

[shishir] (45:30):
is based on a it's a loose adaptation of a book that

[raj] (45:33):
oh

[shishir] (45:33):
polenski actually read but

[raj] (45:35):
yeah

[shishir] (45:36):
this is like far

[raj] (45:37):
oh

[shishir] (45:37):
more i think creative than some was and

[raj] (45:39):
oh

[shishir] (45:39):
you know a lot more o

[raj] (45:40):
yeah

[shishir] (45:40):
more imaginative fictional stuff that he adds to this movie but you know some

[raj] (45:46):
yeah

[shishir] (45:46):
some individuals

[raj] (45:46):
yeah

[shishir] (45:46):
actually theorized that courses character is related to lucifer

[raj] (45:50):
oh

[shishir] (45:50):
like lucifer's son so to speak and

[raj] (45:54):
oh

[shishir] (45:54):
you know so i actually found that more interesting and more believable because he does
not actually come

[raj] (46:01):
oh

[shishir] (46:01):
off as human if you think about it like

[raj] (46:02):
yep

[shishir] (46:03):
he s no interest

[raj] (46:04):
yeah

[shishir] (46:04):
in anything in the world you know it's it's it's kind of like for him
none of it matters

[raj] (46:11):
ye

[shishir] (46:12):
right it's just he's just there and he doesn't like

[raj] (46:16):
yeah

[shishir] (46:17):
people in general like he just you know earns

[raj] (46:21):
or anything

[shishir] (46:22):
or anything yeah really anything

[raj] (46:23):
oh

[shishir] (46:23):
i mean there's no like love that

[raj] (46:26):
yeah

[shishir] (46:26):
shown in is like you know living nature or what not in his

[raj] (46:30):
yeah

[shishir] (46:31):
personality so things that you know kind of show human like a very core aspect
of humanity it's not that he's evil that's the other thing i just think that
the a

[raj] (46:43):
yeah

[shishir] (46:43):
character he is is much

[raj] (46:45):
yeah

[shishir] (46:46):
like significantly different from any of the other characters we see other characters really show

[raj] (46:51):
oh

[shishir] (46:52):
some level emotion they're very human so that's why i got i got the impression
we throughout the movie let was not really a human

[raj] (47:01):
oh

[shishir] (47:02):
and

[raj] (47:03):
yeah

[shishir] (47:03):
that in that sense that he's

[raj] (47:04):
oh

[shishir] (47:04):
able to you know access this particular portal so to speak where others couldn't you
know there's no way i feel like

[raj] (47:13):
i

[shishir] (47:15):
bulkin

[raj] (47:15):
oh

[shishir] (47:16):
buckin was one of the most knowledgeable guys like he's the one that started this
whole you know goose chase finding

[raj] (47:23):
yeah

[shishir] (47:24):
the different the different books and then

[raj] (47:26):
yeah

[shishir] (47:26):
figuring out what is authentic and what is not like that was all his

[raj] (47:29):
ah

[shishir] (47:30):
own idea like he had spent decades

[raj] (47:32):
yeah

[shishir] (47:33):
on this right so i actually love the i love the ending because it

[raj] (47:40):
oh

[shishir] (47:40):
brought up a lot of questions in my mind like trying to

[raj] (47:43):
right

[shishir] (47:43):
figure out why why corso like

[raj] (47:46):
ye

[shishir] (47:46):
was it was it something that anybody else could have done like that could have
access to ninth gate and i just i don't see it because one the one
mysterious

[raj] (47:56):
yeah

[shishir] (47:57):
that mysterious girl figure who has supernatural

[raj] (48:00):
yeah

[shishir] (48:00):
ability she was not not guiding anyone else she only had an

[raj] (48:05):
a

[shishir] (48:06):
interest in corso so

[raj] (48:07):
ah

[shishir] (48:07):
from that from that moment i was like there's

[raj] (48:10):
oh

[shishir] (48:10):
something about him that shows you know showcases

[raj] (48:14):
oh

[shishir] (48:15):
like you know connection and it's not like

[raj] (48:18):
yeah

[shishir] (48:19):
it's not just that he's working for balkan to find the books you know

[raj] (48:23):
oh

[shishir] (48:24):
i'm sure balkan actually like tried you know looking looking up this information with

[raj] (48:30):
oh

[shishir] (48:30):
probably a bunch of other people and then decided okay corso is like one of
the more

[raj] (48:34):
oh

[shishir] (48:36):
effective

[raj] (48:36):
yeah

[shishir] (48:37):
ones but technically speaking that the mysterious girl could have approached balkan cause balkan

[raj] (48:41):
yep

[shishir] (48:41):
was very interested you know why not like so she she picked she basically picked

[raj] (48:46):
oh

[shishir] (48:46):
the person that

[raj] (48:48):
yeah

[shishir] (48:48):
would get access to the ninth game and

[raj] (48:50):
yeah

[shishir] (48:51):
to me that means my my mind at least it was because there's something something
else that was inherently where he could he could he was a kind of the
chosen one so

[raj] (49:04):
oh

[shishir] (49:04):
to speak but yeah i just

[raj] (49:07):
thank

[shishir] (49:08):
absolutely love that the way they did that because i'm like wow okay this is
this is real this is actually a real thing that's

[raj] (49:16):
oh

[shishir] (49:16):
the other thing like this is not it wasn't like oh okay there's a

[raj] (49:19):
yeah

[shishir] (49:19):
goose chase like you know all the different puzzles at the end it so

[raj] (49:24):
yeah

[shishir] (49:24):
you know that's

[raj] (49:25):
oh

[shishir] (49:25):
it it was it was a real ninth gate

[raj] (49:30):
there is one sea where

[shishir] (49:34):
eh

[raj] (49:35):
corso does show a little bit um is when liana is like henchman or partner
now has the gun and lean says take them downstairs don't do it here too
much of a scene and

[shishir] (49:50):
yes

[raj] (49:50):
when they go downstairs
it's not the girl but it's corso doing that move

[shishir] (50:00):
yeah

[raj] (50:00):
uh hitting him throwing him down the stairs you know

[shishir] (50:04):
yeah

[raj] (50:05):
and then think killing him with

[shishir] (50:09):
yeah

[raj] (50:10):
the gun or the or the boot or something and some sort of clarin him
in the head and i remember when he was i was just like well this
seems like a little bit out of character

[shishir] (50:19):
yes

[raj] (50:20):
and the girl noticed it too but she smiles

[shishir] (50:24):
yeh

[raj] (50:24):
and a

[shishir] (50:24):
yeh

[raj] (50:24):
smile gets wider and wider and then she even says like i didn't know you
had it in you

[shishir] (50:30):
yep

[raj] (50:30):
she never tried to stop it where

[shishir] (50:33):
yeah

[raj] (50:33):
she ends up stopping him later when he tries to save liana

[shishir] (50:40):
yeah

[raj] (50:40):
you know and so my theory is and i can go either way that the
girl is a subordinate worker for the devil or the

[shishir] (50:53):
yeah

[raj] (50:53):
devil him and herself in a

[shishir] (50:56):
yeah

[raj] (50:56):
form of a human

[shishir] (50:57):
yeah yeah yeah

[raj] (50:58):
ah

[shishir] (50:59):
that's that's a good one too

[raj] (51:00):
and she picked corso

[shishir] (51:04):
yeah

[raj] (51:04):
now i didn't think of that like only corso could do the ninth gate my
thinking was that ninth gate was obviously real from the end of the movie but
the ritual is real too if they were all real and she was going to
make sure that the right person did it

[shishir] (51:22):
yeah yeah

[raj] (51:23):
and now but it got me now here we're going to like what happens after
he passes the gate

[shishir] (51:31):
yeah

[raj] (51:32):
and so i doubt corso

[shishir] (51:36):
yeah

[raj] (51:36):
i think

[shishir] (51:37):
oh

[raj] (51:39):
he will then get absorbed and now be the evil person on earth for the
devil to do his bidding

[shishir] (51:47):
yeah

[raj] (51:47):
whether it's just like outright evilness or be more of a con man setting people
up to fail or whatever and got me thinking is like i doubt course would
win

[shishir] (51:59):
yeah

[raj] (51:59):
because i doubt he's ever going to double cross or out smart this devil and
so we're kind of luke to our imagination what happens next and it got me
thinking like so of course it was not going to be like an arnold swartnger
and beat the devil

[shishir] (52:14):
red red

[raj] (52:14):
not going to happen

[shishir] (52:15):
yeah

[raj] (52:15):
for preswallish or whatever um and so but it got me to think that you
know for a way that course ho to beat the devil by walking through the
gate um would we get to get the power of community get that evilness but
just not care enough to use it

[shishir] (52:34):
yeah

[raj] (52:34):
ay

[shishir] (52:34):
yeah that's right

[raj] (52:35):
and and just make the devil frustrated

[shishir] (52:43):
that's

[raj] (52:43):
oh

[shishir] (52:43):
a very very good like we actually ye

[raj] (52:48):
because it's like okay so you chose the right person because you can mould he
maybe you

[shishir] (52:54):
yeah

[raj] (52:54):
know bulkin might have his own ideas the guy who as already

[shishir] (52:59):
yeah

[raj] (53:00):
you

[shishir] (53:00):
yeah

[raj] (53:00):
know like you know he might be more trouble than it's worth for the devil

[shishir] (53:05):
yeah he was power

[raj] (53:06):
yeah

[shishir] (53:06):
hungry and he wanted he wanted that for a specific reason he just wanted

[raj] (53:11):
ah

[shishir] (53:11):
to basically accumulate

[raj] (53:12):
yeah

[shishir] (53:13):
infinite power in some sense

[raj] (53:16):
and lena

[shishir] (53:16):
an

[raj] (53:18):
she's a hedonist i mean

[shishir] (53:20):
exactly

[raj] (53:20):
she's

[shishir] (53:20):
yep

[raj] (53:21):
she and kessler and fargus they're just real life book collectors they're not

[shishir] (53:27):
ah yeah

[raj] (53:28):
they're they're very inter did in the devil um

[shishir] (53:33):
the pademic

[raj] (53:34):
m

[shishir] (53:34):
perspective

[raj] (53:35):
yeah more from an academic perspective but i don't think they wish even though they
may not even themselves believe in the night game

[shishir] (53:47):
exactly

[raj] (53:47):
you know

[shishir] (53:48):
exactly yeah

[raj] (53:48):
or for them it's more of an academic thing it has like analogies to real
life

[shishir] (53:55):
yeah

[raj] (53:55):
where balking he knows the night gate is real or

[shishir] (54:00):
yeah

[raj] (54:00):
at the very least he has a high he really does believe there's a high
chance of it being real and i'm going to find out

[shishir] (54:08):
yep

[raj] (54:08):
i went in and he says it

[shishir] (54:10):
ah

[raj] (54:10):
in the ritual is like none of you guys deserve this book

[shishir] (54:14):
yep yep

[raj] (54:16):
yeah

[shishir] (54:16):
yeah

[raj] (54:17):
oh

[shishir] (54:17):
he thinks they're more like

[raj] (54:19):
oh

[shishir] (54:20):
fake

[raj] (54:21):
oh

[shishir] (54:21):
you know fake fans so to speak

[raj] (54:23):
yeah

[shishir] (54:25):
versus

[raj] (54:25):
and they are they are

[shishir] (54:26):
and if they actually are is actually kind

[raj] (54:29):
but

[shishir] (54:29):
of

[raj] (54:29):
nothing

[shishir] (54:29):
funny

[raj] (54:29):
wrong with that though but he

[shishir] (54:31):
yeah

[raj] (54:31):
like he truly hates them though

[shishir] (54:35):
he spent like how many decades like learning about this stuff

[raj] (54:38):
yah

[shishir] (54:38):
and actually taking it seriously yeah i mean at the end of the day

[raj] (54:42):
yah

[shishir] (54:42):
it's what is that was

[raj] (54:46):
ye

[shishir] (54:46):
purpose the use of attaining this power that these guys want at one and for

[raj] (54:51):
okay

[shishir] (54:52):
it's pretty clear with balkan once before and the one person that doesn't really care
about it is

[raj] (54:58):
oh

[shishir] (54:58):
so like he's just like whatever i'm sure if he's like now that he's in
the ninth gate

[raj] (55:04):
oh

[shishir] (55:04):
and he's got powers he's probably like well

[raj] (55:06):
yeah

[shishir] (55:06):
you know i don't really have anything to do with them i don't i don't
have any

[raj] (55:10):
exactly

[shishir] (55:11):
design

[raj] (55:11):
and

[shishir] (55:12):
oh

[raj] (55:12):
you know he didn't go in there to get the power

[shishir] (55:15):
yeah

[raj] (55:15):
balkan wanted he went in there as like well now i got this thing and
now i want to know

[shishir] (55:23):
i want

[raj] (55:23):
you

[shishir] (55:23):
to

[raj] (55:23):
know

[shishir] (55:23):
know ye

[raj] (55:25):
and he's probably also thinking it's like well what is my life here worth

[shishir] (55:29):
exactly

[raj] (55:30):
anything i don't

[shishir] (55:31):
right

[raj] (55:31):
have anybody to care for and no one cares for me

[shishir] (55:34):
yeah

[raj] (55:34):
and my one kind of maybe maybe maybe maybe friend bertie old steam he's dead

[shishir] (55:42):
exactly

[raj] (55:42):
m

[shishir] (55:43):
that one friend of his you know the i mean the goal at least in
some of these stories that you see with us for is that

[raj] (55:49):
oh

[shishir] (55:50):
is to influence humans to send more to like you know be

[raj] (55:55):
yeah

[shishir] (55:55):
basically like get more at the end of the day it's like he that that
character that supernatural character wants more devotion from the larger following and more worship to
him versus people worshiping

[raj] (56:11):
a

[shishir] (56:12):
god and

[raj] (56:13):
oh

[shishir] (56:14):
i'm assuming that's because he drives like more power from

[raj] (56:18):
oh

[shishir] (56:18):
that in some sense

[raj] (56:21):
oh

[shishir] (56:21):
but in this in this story

[raj] (56:22):
yeah

[shishir] (56:23):
it wasn't really about that like you didn't

[raj] (56:25):
no

[shishir] (56:25):
you didn't really hear like oh this is the goal for just

[raj] (56:28):
oh

[shishir] (56:28):
that there is a there is a supposed

[raj] (56:31):
is it

[shishir] (56:31):
supernatural character and people want

[raj] (56:36):
oh

[shishir] (56:37):
to you know being closer to that or some

[raj] (56:41):
oh

[shishir] (56:41):
people at least a segment of that the society

[raj] (56:43):
i

[shishir] (56:43):
and that

[raj] (56:43):
m

[shishir] (56:44):
in that movie you want to be closer to that some in a more fictional
way than others

[raj] (56:49):
oh

[shishir] (56:49):
like balkan who's doing research and then

[raj] (56:53):
m

[shishir] (56:54):
it being

[raj] (56:54):
yah

[shishir] (56:55):
real is actually kind of fascinating to me in the movie universe let um because
i mean this is the great thing about the movie ending where it did because

[raj] (57:04):
yeah

[shishir] (57:04):
it's not like it could be that it's just another dimension to some alien cat
you know that has like powers that you know regular human can't really fathom

[raj] (57:18):
ye

[shishir] (57:18):
right versus

[raj] (57:18):
oh

[shishir] (57:19):
you know versus like a

[raj] (57:22):
oh

[shishir] (57:22):
like a like a christian christian type of antagonist

[raj] (57:27):
oh

[shishir] (57:28):
as like all these abilities and supernatural powers too so it's kind of i mean
i think it's

[raj] (57:34):
a

[shishir] (57:34):
open to a lot of different

[raj] (57:36):
yeah

[shishir] (57:36):
ways to interpret what is it that's on the other side of

[raj] (57:38):
oh

[shishir] (57:39):
the poor of so to speak but

[raj] (57:42):
yeah

[shishir] (57:43):
i just i actually loved that way they went through

[raj] (57:48):
oh

[shishir] (57:48):
this kind of set of puzzles get to ending

[raj] (57:53):
same here and you know you were mentioning it earlier and i'm glad you brought
up like no explanation of the devil and they don't even mention god at least
i don't think so so there's no

[shishir] (58:03):
yes

[raj] (58:04):
scene with like a father or a priest um

[shishir] (58:07):
nothing

[raj] (58:08):
nothing like that whether it's christian or jewish and then m so you get no
explanation

[shishir] (58:18):
yeah

[raj] (58:18):
who the devil is and you don't really need a whole lot and it doesn't
matter what religion you are or even you're an atheist or agnostic the devil is
no like

[shishir] (58:32):
exactly

[raj] (58:33):
people just you know it's in pop culture so there's an assumption there and if
i was found kind of like the depnead i don't my knowledge in christianity or
judaism is very low

[shishir] (58:47):
same

[raj] (58:47):
and

[shishir] (58:47):
here

[raj] (58:49):
but i've always found the devil interesting because it's like i don't really see him
as a person that's like fighting god you know it's not like

[shishir] (59:00):
yes

[raj] (59:00):
um like those marvel character like super man and lex luther you know

[shishir] (59:05):
yeah

[raj] (59:06):
hero and villain you know or dr octopus and spider man hero or green

[shishir] (59:11):
yes

[raj] (59:11):
goblin or like it

[shishir] (59:13):
yeah

[raj] (59:14):
it's like i've always kind of like my thought was like the devil works for
god

[shishir] (59:20):
right

[raj] (59:20):
and the devil

[shishir] (59:21):
yeah

[raj] (59:21):
has a purpose

[shishir] (59:22):
as i prepare

[raj] (59:23):
and if you best not you're going to health

[shishir] (59:29):
that's

[raj] (59:29):
that's kind

[shishir] (59:29):
him

[raj] (59:30):
of my always thoughts like the like god is kind of like the creator and
he created the devil

[shishir] (59:35):
yeah that's that's essentially essential at what the

[raj] (59:39):
oh

[shishir] (59:40):
the kind of the core of dynamic is right

[raj] (59:44):
oh

[shishir] (59:44):
one other kind of depiction of that care or the lucifer character that i actually
think is done pretty well in an interesting way is in the t

[raj] (59:54):
sure

[shishir] (59:54):
v show called the sandman um

[raj] (59:56):
i've heard of it i haven't seen it now though right

[shishir] (59:59):
yeah

[raj] (59:59):
and

[shishir] (59:59):
it's

[raj] (59:59):
paced

[shishir] (59:59):
new

[raj] (59:59):
off a comic comic

[shishir] (01:00:00):
yeah

[raj] (01:00:01):
book

[shishir] (01:00:01):
it's based off of a d

[raj] (01:00:03):
oh

[shishir] (01:00:03):
c a graphic novel

[raj] (01:00:05):
yeah okay so is

[shishir] (01:00:07):
yeah

[raj] (01:00:07):
it h p

[shishir] (01:00:09):
it's on neflixnetflix

[raj] (01:00:10):
it's on the flex and it's d

[shishir] (01:00:11):
oh

[raj] (01:00:12):
c huh

[shishir] (01:00:13):
yeah so d c

[raj] (01:00:14):
yeah

[shishir] (01:00:15):
it was done by this author named nil gamin

[raj] (01:00:18):
oh i've heard i know neal game and yeah he's a a popular

[shishir] (01:00:23):
m

[raj] (01:00:23):
science fiction writer he's

[shishir] (01:00:24):
yep

[raj] (01:00:25):
also

[shishir] (01:00:25):
yep

[raj] (01:00:25):
written some children's books too

[shishir] (01:00:27):
exactly wide variety of different literature but this one yeah

[raj] (01:00:32):
yes

[shishir] (01:00:32):
i mean the story is actually centered on the lord of dreams so this one
character was the dream king so

[raj] (01:00:41):
yeah

[shishir] (01:00:41):
to speak it's just very fascinating but lucifer is one of the characters and is
a very

[raj] (01:00:47):
ah

[shishir] (01:00:47):
powerful character in terms of the abilities but there's no mystery

[raj] (01:00:52):
yeah

[shishir] (01:00:52):
right because you see that

[raj] (01:00:53):
yeah

[shishir] (01:00:53):
character and so somewhat what i loved about

[raj] (01:00:56):
yeah

[shishir] (01:00:58):
ninth gate specifically was that you didn't really have to believe in anything

[raj] (01:01:03):
oh

[shishir] (01:01:03):
just you know as for part of your background you go in and you watch
they're like this

[raj] (01:01:08):
oh

[shishir] (01:01:08):
is very like trippy it feels

[raj] (01:01:11):
yes

[shishir] (01:01:11):
real that's the other thing like it really it feels like a real thing

[raj] (01:01:16):
oh

[shishir] (01:01:16):
it was just like oh does this book exist that's one of the questions in
my mind like does this actual

[raj] (01:01:21):
oh

[shishir] (01:01:21):
is this based on a real like book or something was out there you know
for whatever reason and

[raj] (01:01:28):
oh

[shishir] (01:01:29):
i started researching that a bit because i was

[raj] (01:01:30):
oh

[shishir] (01:01:31):
like you know is there something like inspired this this movie

[raj] (01:01:37):
okay

[shishir] (01:01:38):
there's not really anything that's

[raj] (01:01:39):
yeah

[shishir] (01:01:39):
like you know that famous it's it's uh i think there's like people that are
like god

[raj] (01:01:45):
ye

[shishir] (01:01:45):
i that have some like some odd

[raj] (01:01:48):
uh

[shishir] (01:01:48):
types of novels

[raj] (01:01:49):
uh

[shishir] (01:01:50):
that

[raj] (01:01:50):
yeah

[shishir] (01:01:50):
have been ritten but nothing like as fascinating as this

[raj] (01:01:53):
ah

[shishir] (01:01:53):
so it's a wonderful wonderful

[raj] (01:01:56):
yeah

[shishir] (01:01:57):
movie magic that poleski brought to the screen because i was

[raj] (01:02:00):
oh

[shishir] (01:02:00):
like wow this this has to be real you know it's very rare to think
of something completely like novel from imagination

[raj] (01:02:08):
yes

[shishir] (01:02:08):
like usually rooted in a lot of things that have

[raj] (01:02:12):
oh

[shishir] (01:02:12):
occurred in reality so

[raj] (01:02:14):
yeah even the craziest stories out there that kind of base

[shishir] (01:02:17):
ah

[raj] (01:02:18):
a little bit on reality

[shishir] (01:02:19):
exactly so

[raj] (01:02:21):
oh

[shishir] (01:02:22):
that's the other other aspect

[raj] (01:02:24):
oh

[shishir] (01:02:24):
that i loved you know

[raj] (01:02:25):
oh oh

[shishir] (01:02:27):
now for me reading reading a book and getting in versed in a book it
happens when it happens not that often

[raj] (01:02:34):
my

[shishir] (01:02:35):
when it does happen i actually feel like i'm in that world and like this
is like a real thing and the same thing with this movie but that was
one of the other

[raj] (01:02:43):
yeah

[shishir] (01:02:43):
effects that i loved about it just way the story unfolded it was very ah

[raj] (01:02:49):
oh

[shishir] (01:02:50):
i felt very real and you're like

[raj] (01:02:51):
ye

[shishir] (01:02:51):
okay the subject there's no like you know special effects like huge like you know
like types of

[raj] (01:03:00):
oh

[shishir] (01:03:01):
action scenes you're just like this is very

[raj] (01:03:02):
yeah

[shishir] (01:03:02):
much like people talking to each other that you know like normally happens in real
life and made it so fascinating that's the other thing i loved about it

[raj] (01:03:17):
yeah yeah you know

[shishir] (01:03:19):
ah

[raj] (01:03:19):
i don't really have much to add when almost gate over an hour i did
want to talk a little bout the flaws and you now it's it's oddly enough
like when i talk about when we talk about like really movies i'm kind of
nip picking the flaws and there are some flaws in this movie but you know
my thinking was like if you get hung up with the flaws

[shishir] (01:03:38):
m

[raj] (01:03:38):
um then you're not going to like the movie

[shishir] (01:03:40):
uh

[raj] (01:03:40):
and i thought

[shishir] (01:03:41):
huh

[raj] (01:03:41):
this movie you just you can't get hung up on it

[shishir] (01:03:44):
yes

[raj] (01:03:45):
the special effects you know i've never criticized that special effect but i thought they
were okay

[shishir] (01:03:51):
m

[raj] (01:03:51):
you know they couldn't avoid the green screen

[shishir] (01:03:54):
yeah

[raj] (01:03:54):
on the driving scenes in new york because palansky can't be in the us for
legal reasons which you know i won't

[shishir] (01:04:00):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:00):
get into in this in this pot but

[shishir] (01:04:03):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:03):
you could obviously tell and my only

[shishir] (01:04:06):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:06):
thing is i heard this on a tarantinopod where he talked

[shishir] (01:04:10):
a

[raj] (01:04:10):
about him because he used his screen screen in
put fiction and i think he also uses him an kill bill so in pulp

[shishir] (01:04:20):
really

[raj] (01:04:20):
fiction when you see john travolta driving with uma

[shishir] (01:04:23):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:23):
it's a black and white in the back and he says that he wanted to
use it but he didn't want to use it kind of like he didn't use
this an example but like how you see older movies or even plants ke using
it they're just trying to make it look real

[shishir] (01:04:37):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:39):
he he was going to use it and make it on purpose

[shishir] (01:04:43):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:43):
to not look real

[shishir] (01:04:45):
okay okay

[raj] (01:04:46):
and so in fiction from what i remember more more so than kill bill

[shishir] (01:04:52):
yes

[raj] (01:04:53):
is travoltis in color the car is

[shishir] (01:04:56):
yeah

[raj] (01:04:56):
in color but the green screen the image in the back is in black and
white

[shishir] (01:05:01):
oh yes

[raj] (01:05:02):
oh

[shishir] (01:05:02):
yes yes yes okay i remember that

[raj] (01:05:04):
and it's just like even a non casual you are non movie buff we notice
that and get a

[shishir] (01:05:10):
yes

[raj] (01:05:10):
chuckle out of it

[shishir] (01:05:12):
to

[raj] (01:05:12):
and so you know that was my like one kind of little flaw there you
know i think with this movie like this it's like you kind of just have
to kind of accept it of what it's

[shishir] (01:05:24):
yes

[raj] (01:05:25):
there

[shishir] (01:05:26):
yeah i mean there were some flies too for for example when the crane almost
fell on and that was one of the

[raj] (01:05:33):
oh

[shishir] (01:05:34):
one of the puzzles where you have to avoid danger that will ill come to
you if you get too close to attaining your goal right so it actually was
like when you watch it the way that scene happens like there's enough time

[raj] (01:05:49):
ah

[shishir] (01:05:49):
for him you avoid getting hit by that crane and i was like wait this
doesn't seem that dangerous it's like

[raj] (01:05:55):
yeah

[shishir] (01:05:55):
too slow in terms of falling down and like you know he didn't narrowly miss
it in my

[raj] (01:06:00):
oh

[shishir] (01:06:01):
and else

[raj] (01:06:02):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:02):
the after it had

[raj] (01:06:03):
oh

[shishir] (01:06:04):
felt fallen down it didn't really seem like it was going to hurt anybody that
badly

[raj] (01:06:08):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:09):
like it

[raj] (01:06:09):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:09):
wasn't like a huge like heavy like you know

[raj] (01:06:13):
oh

[shishir] (01:06:13):
something that could you know type of object that could really cause cause damnnatputs

[raj] (01:06:17):
a

[shishir] (01:06:18):
you know i think that's that's just it's a minor flaw like that's something that
has improved a lot over the over the

[raj] (01:06:25):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:25):
last few years where people really have kind of gotten the science down of like
like getting the scene to synematically unfold

[raj] (01:06:34):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:34):
in just enough time to feel

[raj] (01:06:35):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:35):
like that person is narrowly

[raj] (01:06:37):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:37):
missing getting injured badly

[raj] (01:06:41):
yeah

[shishir] (01:06:41):
you know

[raj] (01:06:42):
yeah and

[shishir] (01:06:42):
so

[raj] (01:06:42):
usually you have a guy on the production staff that's like dedicated to like okay
this is when he should run this is

[shishir] (01:06:51):
yes

[raj] (01:06:51):
how it's going to look

[shishir] (01:06:52):
ah

[raj] (01:06:53):
i give a little pat because planche's not an action director

[shishir] (01:06:56):
exactly

[raj] (01:06:56):
and now he he has to make his movies in foreign countries and sometimes he
has trouble getting financing so he's got to make do with what he's got

[shishir] (01:07:09):
exactly and then that's the thing like

[raj] (01:07:11):
oh

[shishir] (01:07:12):
to me it didn't bother me i was like okay like

[raj] (01:07:14):
right

[shishir] (01:07:15):
i get that that's

[raj] (01:07:16):
he

[shishir] (01:07:16):
that's not so believable but it never like detracted

[raj] (01:07:20):
oh

[shishir] (01:07:20):
from like larger story and i was like you know this is it's still because
it's such a quick scene and then you kind of move on to the next
phase

[raj] (01:07:29):
if it was like a marvel movie or like a john wick movie you would
expect

[shishir] (01:07:33):
yeah

[raj] (01:07:33):
a lot more you know it's just like okay come on you got to tighten
that

[shishir] (01:07:36):
yeah

[raj] (01:07:36):
up make it little bit better uh

[shishir] (01:07:39):
instagratification right

[raj] (01:07:40):
yeah oh

[shishir] (01:07:41):
but but to me it was like

[raj] (01:07:43):
oh

[shishir] (01:07:43):
you know it's just a limitation of

[raj] (01:07:46):
ah yeah

[shishir] (01:07:47):
resources at the time but it does even then like i'm like you know what

[raj] (01:07:52):
yeah oh

[shishir] (01:07:53):
yeah you could probably spend an extra like

[raj] (01:07:54):
yeah

[shishir] (01:07:54):
one two million realyjus to re do that scene but you don't need

[raj] (01:07:58):
yeah

[shishir] (01:07:58):
to it's such a such a well done

[raj] (01:08:00):
oh

[shishir] (01:08:00):
movie over all that no need like it's keep it as

[raj] (01:08:04):
oh

[shishir] (01:08:04):
is just you know

[raj] (01:08:06):
oh

[shishir] (01:08:07):
it's a parut of its time so yeah flaw as wise i also agree with
you there are couple of things that i saw as

[raj] (01:08:15):
oh

[shishir] (01:08:15):
far s but i didn't it didn't

[raj] (01:08:18):
yes

[shishir] (01:08:18):
really keep me from from like not believing in the story that was the other
thing like i know it's not you know real if we want to go to
the technical aspect of it but i don't know for me when i was watching
it i felt very like this is a real real

[raj] (01:08:36):
ah

[shishir] (01:08:36):
thing
have you seen the movie hostile by eli ruth

[raj] (01:08:44):
no

[shishir] (01:08:44):
yeah

[raj] (01:08:45):
i haven't you can probably talk me into a kind of stay away from those
kind of like horror slash i don't know if it's a torture movie but i
kind of stay away from those movies

[shishir] (01:08:58):
in it was based on some real actual events that eli roth

[raj] (01:09:03):
oh

[shishir] (01:09:04):
read about i mean that's that's

[raj] (01:09:05):
oh

[shishir] (01:09:07):
there's another movie actually

[raj] (01:09:08):
yeah

[shishir] (01:09:08):
in that in that kind of jean that i would recommend but we can talk
about another pot

[raj] (01:09:12):
yeah

[shishir] (01:09:13):
but but the fact is like you watch it and you're like wow you know

[raj] (01:09:18):
yeah

[shishir] (01:09:19):
i can believe that this is real and

[raj] (01:09:20):
right

[shishir] (01:09:20):
you know

[raj] (01:09:21):
yeah

[shishir] (01:09:21):
in some cases this is rooted in an actual event but in the ninth gate
it's just surely

[raj] (01:09:28):
oh

[shishir] (01:09:28):
like you know someone's imagination

[raj] (01:09:31):
yep

[shishir] (01:09:31):
so i was like wow this is so cool i love that aspect of it
too so

[raj] (01:09:39):
well i don't have much else to add this movie were a little bit over
an hour do you have anything else you wanted to yeah

[shishir] (01:09:46):
no really i think we covered like the big points

[raj] (01:09:48):
yeah

[shishir] (01:09:49):
and other aspects that i think were really cool

[raj] (01:09:53):
okay awesome al right i'll go ahead and we can end it and if you
can just stay on for a little bit

[shishir] (01:09:58):
sure sure
