In this follow-up conversation, Kate talks with Dr. Tamara Rosier, founder of the ADHD Center of West Michigan and author of Your Brain’s Not Broken and You, Me, and Our ADHD Family, about why the transition from ages 16 to 26 can be bumpy for ADHD teens and young adults. They unpack elongated adolescence, the ADHD maturity lag, and two common “slow-to-launch” patterns: (1) kids holding out for an ideal lifestyle and (2) “basement dwelling” withdrawal (gaming/avoidance). Dr. Rosier shares how parents can shift from fixing to scaffolding with calm reassurance, appropriate treatment when needed, and clear boundaries while protecting the relationship and building agency. She also offers realistic timelines (often later coalescence in the 20s) and a simple coaching script to help kids solve their own problems.
