The Evolution of Female and LGBTQ+ Characters with Kelly McClure | A Yellowjackets Bonus Discussion

Special thanks to our patrons, including our new patron Julian and Honorary Antler Queens Courtney and Jade!    My guest this week is the Queen Bee of Yellowjackets content, Kelly McClure.   We talked all about the evolution of female and LGBTQ+ characters, and growing up in the 90s. We were both in high school at the same time as the class of 96, so prepare for a lot of 90s nostalgia!   Kelly McClure is Salon's Nights and Weekends editor, and her work has been featured in Vulture, The A.V. Club, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Nylon, Vice (where she became the first official music editor), my personal favorite, BUST (where she also worked as the music editor), and many other publications. In 2022 she started her own publishing imprint, WolfieVibes Publications, and released her debut novella, Something Is Always Happening Somewhere in May of 2022. It’s described as a visceral tale of grief with horror elements. She wrote a fantastic article titled “Yellowjackets is gay as hell. Why that’s just what we needed right now” which plays into what we talked about in this episode.
