Speaker 1 (00:01):
You are now listening to the Someone's Favorite Productions podcast network.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hello there, and welcome back.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
What is this place?
Speaker 4 (00:12):
Is connected?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Disconnected? It's connected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected, disconnected.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I'm sorry to feel disconnected.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Breaks the number that has been disconnected.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Hey there, everyone, and welcome to another Thursday Live un Reconnected.
This week with my buddy in a beautiful shirt, mister
KB loves Movies. KB, welcome back.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
My friend gotta support, gotta support. It's a good week
for that. I appreciate you. Appreciate the support, my friend quick,
Sorry about that. So went to our favorite movie theater
last Friday to see Hi so Lois because nowhere but
Screenland Armor was shown it in Kansas City. So my
daughter and I went up there and movie's over. Got
(01:04):
to hit the head. I'm walking and this guy says,
nice shirt. I'm like, okay. One of Ryan's friends are here,
and then he's like, I remember you from the marathon.
And I was like, oh god, what marathon? And I
think he meant like panic fast. But it could have
been Carpenter Fast. It could have been Nightmare ol Street,
(01:26):
any of them. I don't know, but yes, got the
shirt on tonight just for you. Now.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I want to know who it was.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
But I cared more about making it to the laboratory
than I did know they were.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
That checks out, especially after a Spike movie.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, yeah, A little long, A little long, oh man.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Before we get back to having fun, I wanna talk
for just a second because it has been a rough
week for a few reasons. Again, I don't really try
to make this a quote political show, but in a
week where I have had to check in on multiple
people that I love that are close to me, I've
got an employee that lives in Minneapolis very close to
(02:12):
two different mass shootings. Tho were down this week, and
then on Tuesday of this week, I got an email
from the superintendent of both of my children's school district
to let everybody know that a loaded gun was found
in one of our high schools. No details. I'm at work,
I don't have access to the internet. So I get
(02:34):
home from work and I finally can see what happened
because multiple people are talking about it online. And turns
out somebody with a concealed carry license went to a
music performance at the high school six weeks ago and
lost a loaded weapon and they let the police department
know everywhere they went that day and not sure where
(02:55):
they misplaced it, and the police department never notified our
school district. Wow, this is awful that we are continuing
to say the exact same things every single time. The
answer here is that we are the nation with the
most guns and the least restrictions on guns, and it
is what is killing everybody in this country. It is embarrassing.
(03:18):
If you believe that you have a right to bear
arms with no restrictions, you should change that. If you'd
like to talk about it, I'm totally fine discussing that
with you after the show. Send me an email because
I'm pissed and I'd love to find out how I
can help you learn the other way. That's all I
got to say. How you doing?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Kph numb? And it's really sad, like we're speaking backstage.
I'm to the point where it's like I'm just waiting
for the vicious cycle to come back around again. Unfortunately,
and it could be my age, it could be just
(03:54):
being observant of everything going on. I am not against guns.
I'm not against SKUs on owners. I am against the
people who feel like it should be just out there
willy nilly. If I need a license for a car,
I need a license to go hunting, I need a
license to go fishing. Yeah, things need to be a
(04:18):
little more restrictive. But yeah, besides that, still feel like
I'm moving in, still got boxes around me. I just
moved in, having company this week in and I really
don't care what the place looks like. So there's that.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
One thing we don't get to talk about enough on
this because we don't have enough people doing it. How's
it feel when you have a pretty decent sized collection
moving into a completely blank slate. How's it feel making
those choices?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
I started putting stuff on the shelf, and I said,
I hate this. I hate the way it looks, and
I want to take everything off and reassemble and move everything.
And then my wife shout out to her gave me
some grandiose idea. She's like, why don't you put your
DJ equipment over there, and then you could get some
recks and hang like a couple of your favorite albums.
(05:07):
So now I have vision and I want to put
like some acoustic covers. But the whole thing is I
have a lot of room down here. When you come over,
you'll see. But I feel like I'm running out of
room already.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
So yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Not easy because you want to be able to show
everything or see everything around you. And I'm getting there.
You can see, you know, sirhitches behind me as usual,
and I have pretty much all my scorsese, all my
hitchcock down there, so I'm getting here.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
I'm getting there.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
So as you're talking about moving all those in, let's
talk about recent pickups.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
What have you been picking up recently? Did we start
with the obvious?
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Let's do it, because that would have made my week
a little more epic. But I got actually a lot
to show tonight.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Okay, So we got back Exploitation Classics Volume two to
go with volume one.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
So I'm very happy to have these two.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
And before i get into the horror season, I'm definitely
going to spend some time and.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Get into these.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
These are narro dear to my heart because when I
was a teenager, we used to go into Greenwich Village
in New York City and there were places that sold
bootleg VHS tapes with all of these movies on them.
So these hood classics have gone from VHS status to
(06:40):
Lovely Shout Select four case status. So I'm looking forward
to that, especially some of the ones on volume two
here and unfortunately Ryan can't show his because I have
it right here.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Which, by the way, a lot of people don't talk
about this. Find you a friend that when there is
a get buy two, get one free sale, we'll buy
other copies of these with you to save all kinds
of money.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
That's the best way to take advantage of these sales.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
It really is. Especially when it's over a hundred box.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
It's like, right, and this is gonna bring me price
down to one twenty three.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
He's like, well, okay, sign me up. Works for me,
works for me.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
What else? It was recently my birthday and some of
my subscribers sent me movies, which I am very thankful for.
A shad out to you guys. So I got a
copy of the substance. I was holding off on this
to four K because it just has the feature right
on it. Yeah, so I know somebody's going to release
(07:46):
something because I know Far has so much extra stuff
that she recorded while it was still megate. So second
side Arrow, somebody just do a good job please. I
was waiting for a possibility of finding the steal book.
(08:07):
But someone sent me my favorite movie of the year,
so I'm happy about.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
That incredible looking release.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yes, and you know in time for November, I got
a little Wicked Action.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
I still gotta see it. I got to watch it
before the second one comes to theaters, because I actually
get to go to theaters this time.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I would wait.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I would wait until like right before because it's set
up just like the Broadway musical which we've seen, where
Act one is the first movie, so Act two, for
Good will be the second movie.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
So the closer you see it too, when you go
to see part two, Yep, the better experience would be
someone else sent me a movie that I saw at
Panic Fast a few years ago. As Real would just
one of my favorites. Tomorrow weevening love Her and this
as and this is going to be weird because this
is a DVD, but this is something near and dear
(08:59):
to my heart that it's been on my wish list
for the longest time. I got the DVD portion of
A Personal Journey. What savvy through American films. I've seen this,
I've had a bootleg of this. I've never been able
to find a brand new sealed copy of this at price.
(09:20):
Books have been on my wish list trying to find
this and the coffee book that goes along with it.
But I really wanted this, and now I got a
brand new sealed copy and I will open it up
and I will watch it. But it is mine. It's
all mine, my precious, no kidding.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
I just got chills. You never told me you got that.
That's incredible. I knew how bad you wanted that, so
it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah. Also, I've been doing what not auctions, so just
picked up a couple of things, like I finally got
a simple plan with the slip. I was surprised this.
I don't know why this hasn't been in my library
at my collection. So I finally got New York.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
And Ninja and a brand new copy of Lloyd's A Flatbush.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Oh nice.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Yeah, Bonzi be poor happy days, That's the way I
put it.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
But yeah, so that's the salon Perry King, Henry Winkler,
if you know, you know, So that's really it. I
haven't been taking up too much, you know, with the
move and everything and trying to save a few pennies
here and there. I have been.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
I've been trying to save as well, which over the
last couple of months, I've not been showing a whole
lot because I don't really have a whole lot, and
I feel like in one week that changed. So I'm
sorry in advance this is more than normal, but I
feel like there's enough things to give shout outs too
that I wanted to do this. First off, shout out
to Videodrome in Atlanta, Georgia. This is the physical Media
store in Georgia. They sell the Physical Media Advocate. I've
(10:52):
been talking to Matt for years. We've talked about when
I come out there, not if, but when I make
it out there, doing a video in video drone for
their channel and helping them out with some stuff and
doing some stuff for my channel. And I ordered the
shirts because they started promoting on socials, ordered one of
their logo pins, and then because Matt saw it was
my name on the order, he was like, here, have
(11:14):
a sticker, have another pin, have all of these postcards,
have all of these stickers, have a handwritten note this
as we love you Ryan, have a dog bag, And like,
I didn't ask for any of this. I never do.
This is insane. Genuinely, please go support locally owned home
video stores like this that are still I personally and
(11:37):
everybody in this chat can attest that I love purchasing
directtion from boutiques. That being said, retailers deserve a lot
of that too. They are curating people, curating people's collections
in their community. They're throwing on events, like half of
these postcards are about local events in Atlanta. It is
amazing to me that we still don't have at least
(11:57):
one video store within like a two hour drive of everybody,
because that is that's like this the essence of life,
and it's embarrassing that we don't have that. So please
please check them.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
There's a store within a flea market in Pennsylvania as
an example of a locally owned physical media store that
I support. Besides, you know your vented stocks around here
and what have you. But it's important. It's important. It's
not just your thrift stores and your Orbit DVDs. Although
(12:30):
you know, our friend Nathan Jones went to Orbit to
support them locally that way, and I would have loved
to make that trip, but we should make that trip.
You know, That's how I changed the YouTube.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
We I've genuinely. In the last month, brought this up
to my wife that I wanted to plan a time
for me and you to drive down there together. So yes,
we will definitely, definitely. So other than that, uh, we
have not seen a lot of pickups on my side
for Terror Vision, even though I've worked on most of
the releases over the last year. And so finally I
(13:02):
requested contributor copies for the last like ten months and
here are most of them. Still not all of them.
But what I really highlight, and it's a good night
for it, is Gushing Prayer. This is a film that
TerrorVision took a risk on. It is a pink film.
And the reason I'm highlighting this is because on September first,
on the Mali You Scene site, Vinegar Syndrome is releasing
(13:24):
the first release in their new pink line. Don't know
what it is yet, but I want to tell people.
If you're getting excited about that stuff, because Vinegar Syndrome
usually gets people hyped up, go back and check out
Gushing Prayer. This is a very good movie. Worked on
special features on this. I think this is one of
their best grave face releases. The art on here is gorgeous,
I can't take the little strip off because there's nudity.
But it's a classy pink film, which is a kind
(13:47):
of odd choice for TerrorVision to start with that one,
and sadly it didn't do very well, so I doubt
that they'll do many more. If you want to show
support and maybe kick off, Hey, we actually would like these,
go check out Gushing Prayer from Terror Vision a few
other things. This just came in and I was just
talking about this with Brian, who's probably in the chat.
(14:10):
I think I saw his name already. But the four
K release from Lions Gates of But I'm a Cheerleader
came in. Everybody seemed to think this was a steel book,
but instead this is a release on a diet. This
is a slipcover that comes off and it is the
smallest digipack that I've seen in quite some time. It's
(14:32):
barely thicker than the plastic tray. The art is okay.
It is quite airbrushed in certain places like that, but
it's honestly, I don't hate this. It does feel kind
of we'll say, sensitive to the touch. That being said,
this is one of the most safe or space saving
(14:55):
releases that I will have immediately, which I love, love,
love love. It is a slim case and it's it's
probably even maybe slightly slimmer than a slim case one
that is pretty much immediately going out of print. It
looks like hopefully to be printed again. Monty Python on
the Holy Grail four K steel book, This was a must.
This was a foundational comedy for me. Adore of this movie,
(15:18):
stoked to have it. Another foundational comedy just came in
that I've been thinking of showing my kids, although there's
a couple of things that make me trepidacious. A four
K of Happy Gilmour. How did we get that? Quite confused,
but I'm glad that it's here. Then Imprint, this is
the the fun one of the week. And Ronnie's asking
(15:41):
the but I'm a cheerleader's spine, here's the spine of
the slip cover mentions that it's the director's cut specifically,
got a decent font and then if you take off
the slip it's the same in an inverted color.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Imprint came in so first they sent this Bauk because
of my interview with Daniel Kramer, so I could have
a physical release. This is their box set of Blue
and Fade In that they did, which is by Silvio Narrazano.
This specifically has the documentary from Daniel Kramer located in
the box set, which is remarkable that we have somebody
(16:17):
in the physical media community contributing to these releases getting
an entire disc dedicated to one of their documentaries. This
is treasured immediately. The documentary is great if anybody gets
a chance to see it other than the imprint disc
because you don't have that and you're not purchasing, which
I understand buying from Australia is a little scary right now,
which we're going to talk about after pickups, I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
But it is absolutely worth watching.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Daniel if you follow him on social media, sometimes is
giving out like hey you can watch this this weekend.
Here's a link to Vimeo and a password, so keep
an eye out on that. He's doing great work. But
with that, they decided to be extra kind and send
Midnight Cowboy with Dustin Hoffman and somebody else. But this
is a great looking release. And then my favorite thing
(17:05):
possibly they came in this box is an upgrade to
a Criterion release that I already had. Malcolm x Wow.
I bought that from Imprint and save this one for
my friend KB, who I know also loves this movie.
Incredible release. We've got the four K disc, We've got
a Blu ray. The Blu Ray has, by any means necessary,
(17:27):
the making of this is an upgrade of the Criterion
because it's got Dolby Vision. Most of the same extras
on here as well. But check it out if you
are interested in it.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
It's so cool. I saw that when they put out
the release, and you know, they advertise in their bundles,
and I'm like, ah, what's different about that one? And
then when I saw a Dolby Vision, I just looked
at my LG. I'm like, dude, I look really really
good on there. It's like I don't need a reason then,
(18:00):
but all of a sudden, I'm justifying and I'm like, hmm.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Yeah, I didn't really need it either, but man, and
I glad.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
So let's talk about it real quick, because the other
big thing that's been a damper on the Hobby this
week is the idea of shipping and tariffs. We've talked
about tariffs on the show before. We've explained that if
you are in the United States, the recent change in
tariffs will absolutely affect you as a purchaser, because no
matter how the media tries to spin it, the people
(18:33):
that pay for tariffs are those living in the country.
Whether it's you purchasing an item and getting an up
charge for that or the other companies raising prices to
make up for that, it falls on you because we
are capitalist until we die this country urrah. Now, as
far as the tariffs go, the reason this is affecting
boutique physical media right now is because there was a
(18:56):
an exception in place called Deminimus, which was limiting it
to eight hundred dollars orders or below that was not
subject to any of these tariffs, and they're letting that
expire at the end of this month or actually tomorrow.
And so what that means is because they didn't have
a process in place to collect all these things for
every single purchase, because most purchases that come in are
(19:19):
under eight hundred dollars. All shippers basically across the world,
they said, well, we're not shipping to the US, and
let's be honest, American companies are great. I Love Vinegar Syndrome,
Love Severn, Love Show, Factory Love, TerrorVision Love, all these
people support them. Will be a diehard def Crocodile fan
till I die. However, there's a lot of releases that
(19:41):
literally cannot come out from the United States because of rights,
and based on that, there are lots of things that
I feel compelled to import. So it will impact me.
If you import anything from Ara video that cannot be
sold in the US, it will impact you. That being said,
this didn't need to happen. There are a lot of
things in place that mean that this should be an exception.
(20:04):
And I have talked about this in the discord, so
I don't want to go over it too much because
many of you that are in the chat are in
the discord as well. But essentially there is an exception
written in for movies and for music and for things
like that. So all of these things should be accepted
under the law. However, and by the way that was accepted,
not accepted, exc epted. Those should be accepted under that law.
(20:29):
But because it is based on everything under eight hundred dollars,
the shipping carriers now have said, well, we can't deal
with that, so screw it. We're not shipping. So it
doesn't matter, even if they are accepted, they are not
shipping them here. Let's be completely honest. It's not about
these foreign companies trying to get one over on our
country or anything like that. It is our country trying
(20:52):
to control you and what you're purchasing, and it is ridiculous.
I don't understand how people are siding with billionaires and
the rich people in this world. But if you are,
I want you to understand that pretty much everybody watching
the stream right now is probably the same place as
KB and I less than three paychecks away from homelessness
if something were to happen. Most people in the world
(21:15):
are sorry, most people in this country, and I do
mean that literally, more than fifty percent in this country
are less than three full paychecks away from losing most
things that they have because they will not be able
to buy food, not be able to buy roof And
that is a problem. And if you don't see that
as a problem with the people hoarding the money, I
kind of see that as the problem is with you.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Any thoughts can be. It's a strong arm moved, and
unfortunately the people that benefit are not the people that
it will affect, because you know, I'll keep it up
one hundred. If I had money, every time I went
to buy movies, it be at least a rack. I'd
be spending at least a thousand dollars. This wouldn't affect me,
(22:02):
but you know, when it's taking countries into consideration and
making them say, well, we'll just stop shipping to the
US because that's easier. You just held up a beautiful imprint.
If I want it, I probably should get it before,
you know, not too long, because they're looking at not
shipping at all. That means they're not going to ship
(22:24):
to your diabolics and your orbits and whatever else you use,
because it has to get here first before it gets
to you, unless you, you know, ship directly from them,
and they're not going to be doing that. So I
don't know. The people it affects is the people that
(22:44):
are not making those decisions. So I don't know. I
think it's either a time to realize what's taking place
and maybe get some friends in some other countries because
that's that seems to be the only way, and you know,
get yourself a UPS or a fat X account because
it's going to be very hard to import movies before
(23:06):
too long.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, that's quite possible, and I see people in the
chat asking does that mean places like Orbit and Diabolic
won't be able to carry things in the immediate future.
That might be true. I do have this stupid optimistic
hope that I think this will likely blow over pretty
quickly because it'll affect the right people and somebody will
impact change. That being said, it just might not happen
(23:30):
this time. We can only kind of rely on that
optimism enough times until we're so far down that something
can't be recovered and go ahead.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
I just mentioned Diabolic and they made an announcement earlier
this week. What do you think about that?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
I mean, it's pretty ballsy to say. For those that
didn't see it, Diabolic DVD posted on all their social
media a really heartfelt message and speaks a lot to
how long they've been around. And it's not even just
like literally the words, it's just their experience, literally the
fact that they have been around, that they've been a
part of this world for so long. So they said
(24:05):
in their post, for twenty five years, Diabolic has been
your source for imports from around the world. If you're
ordering in the US, you can feel safe locking in
your pre orders and not worrying about extra tariffs and
customs fees when your order arrives. Now, this doesn't tell
me that they're going to be you know, like, hey,
we can guarantee that this is going to be easy
because we have an inside man that is going to recover. No.
(24:27):
I think that they have things set in place with
their shippers that they're going to be able to try
to find a way through this. I do think most
of the retailers is going to be able to do that.
They're ordering in bulk where it makes sense. Most of us,
like you said, we're not paying one thousand dollars for
an order to come in from the UK, so most
of them they have enough money to swing around to
make it worthwhile we don't have that luxury. So I
(24:50):
think most of the retailers will be fine. Diabolic. It's
a big move. It is a it's a big deal
to do that and give the honesty and loyalty and.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Hope to your customer price gouch No, Because it's an
opportunity if you're if you're a business, it's an opportunity
to say, well, I'm going to pass on the cost
to you, even if I'm not really incurrent of fees
to begin with, and you know, I don't take it
from any company that would do that. It's possible, but
(25:21):
it's going to you know, you said before you like
to buy direct from people. It's going to make it
harder to buy direct as an individual. I'm an in
print from an umbrella or indicator, because now we have.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
To go through that third party.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
We have to go through those importers like Diabolic, who's saying, well,
we're ordering over eight hundred bucks at a time as
far as things coming in, so we're not going to
hit you with those fees. They're also not saying the
amount of time. You know, the pre order is now
for August September, or you know, is this going to
work in February twenty six.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
It's true, it's true, and there's a lot of people
controlling the money here, so we don't We just don't
know the outcome yet.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
It's going to take some time to figure all this
out sadly.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah, oh man, so that's that. Let's get past this completely.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
Yeah, hypergroup buys.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Let's go, uh, let's go to the exciting thing behind
all this. I don't know about all of you in
the chat but for me, I support physical media because
I love movies. That is literally my point. It is
in Kb's name literally looking at the screen. We both
love movies, and that means to keep this going, to
make this important, we got to watch stuff and analyze
it and have it affect our lives. So, KB, what
have you been watching?
Speaker 3 (26:38):
I have been watching a lot of what's behind me
besides going to the movies when I can, Like I
just mentioned, went to see High so Lois. But my
friend was here for my birthday and he's also a
physical media collective, but he's not in the community like us.
He is, Oh, Valerina is coming out out, let me
(27:00):
preorder it and at the Steel Book on day one
kind of guy. But he's not like keeping up with
dates and stuff. Like literally he hit me up and was.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Like, Terrifier three Should I get this?
Speaker 3 (27:14):
I'm like yeah, and he's like, I wont all them
on four K and he found the Umbrella Terrifiers. So
he's not like we are. So he was here and
he was just like you ever seen long Legs? SI, Nope,
we watched long Legs. We watched I got Cobra from
(27:34):
the arrow Sail at barnsible in Choice. So that was
our double feature, and then we went to see Weapons
the next day. So to go from long legs weapons,
that's a great double feature. If you don't know, folks, so's.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
A that's a twenty four twenty five hit list right there.
That's great.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. So just I've been going back,
you know, some Marble stuff. I watched Guardians. Purple Rain
is always in rotation because I'm a big Prince fan.
Watch that last night. So I've just been trying to
enjoy the collection a little bit more, but still hitting
the cinemas when I can. As Ryan knows, I was
(28:12):
supposed to be at sign Out at Times tonight and
possibly my friend Bruce, but I'll go to sign up
the Times tomorrow and me and Bruce will just have
to stay on the four K for now.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Yeah. I was just talking about Purple Rain because just
like you, I'm getting ready for Sign of the Times
this weekend. I'm taking my mom, who's in the chat tonight,
shut up, mom My Mom and I going to AMC
in Leewood, Kansas at their corporate location this Saturday night.
And stoked on that we were talking about this before
the stream, but literally this weekend it was really difficult
(28:47):
because they're showing a really beautiful looking REP screening of
Jaws and then Sign of the Times, and I had
to wait, like, there's so many new movies, I can
only choose one of these rep screenings, and Jaws is
gonna play every single year. So yeah, yeah, I went
and chowed Imax.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
You don't know you're an IMAX.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
I mean, that's kind of the big thing right now.
So maybe, but looking at those Sign of the Times
is likely never going to play in the Kansas City
metro area on the big screen.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Ever, again, I was gonna grab it. I have probably
something that most people in the United States don't have.
I have a DVD copy of Sign at the Times. No,
it was not released Warner Brothers did not release it here.
They released it in the UK, and then they release
it in Canada. So I have a Region A. Was
(29:37):
that Region one DVD Region one Sign at the Times,
But it's not pretty United States, just for Canada. I
played that thing like it just came out yesterday. I
loved that movie very nice. Stop there. It's number two
to stop making sense. Yeah, twenty four cent in me, so.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Stop making sense. Literally the best concert film of all time.
And if like you, they go watch it again, go.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Watch it again. If you don't think it's the best,
you didn't watch it enough science, go watch it again.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
So this last week has been pretty great for watches.
I gotta be honest. One I will shout out is
we had the Patreon watch along this weekend. And talking
about music, we watched Christian Slater's Pump Up the Volume
all together in the discord. That movie is damn near perfect.
He is so incredible in that role. For anybody that's
(30:28):
never seen it, it's out there on Warner Archive Blu
ray and it looks great.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
It's great. It's a great Blue ray.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
It is currently on the Criterion channel and it's part
of this like I think it's ninety soundtrack movies, which
incredible playlist if you just want to sit through all
of those. But yeah, Pump Up the Volume is just immense.
If you've never seen it, it's a really great and
if you love Christian Slater, really great double feature with
Heathers just to look at like the anarchy of everything man.
(30:56):
Watching that as a group with a lot of people
that have never seen it before, it's it's so fun.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
So yeah, it's it's a great soundtrack too. I mean
when I was in college, I used to rock that
soundtrack all the time. And you go from like from
like indie pop rock alt to like West Coast hip hop.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
It's it's great, it really is.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
I was about to comment this, Dustin said, I was
confused at what Sign of the Times was. He thought
it was odd that I was so excited to see
a Harry Styles concert film. For the record, I adore
the Sign of the Times music video. That is one
of the best music videos of the last decade, and
I will stand by that until I die. It is incredible.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
I like him.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Dell? Rather Dell in the house? Another Prince fan? Right there?
Speaker 4 (31:48):
Are you going to see Sign at Times?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Dell? Please tell me who you are so other than
pump up the volume.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
A really kind of interesting week So at the theater
this last weekend, went and saw Honey Don't, which a
lot of people saw and is probably one of the
most divisive films of the year so far. I've seen
people only hate it or only think that it was
an incredible throwback. I'm a little in the middle I'm
leaning more towards incredible throwback. I don't understand how many
(32:16):
people did not understand it was a comedy. It's literally
like Charlie Day playing up as the disgruntled police chief
in nineteen forty films. It is so blatantly a comedy.
They're playing everything up. It's camp. It's beautiful, beautiful camp love, honey,
don't everybody should see it, even though a lot of
(32:36):
you will hate it. Other than that, also saw Relay,
which my surprise film of the year. Now, this is
the Riza meedfilm that he is playing an individual that
helps whistleblowers that are looking to return items that they've
made safe and they use the deaf relay system to
communicate because none of that can be saved per the
local laws. And I was pretty shocked. I feel like
(33:00):
it was really great. I see a lot of people
not enjoying the ending of the film, and in a
way I do understand that. But I feel like this
is a movie that is gonna really, really, really feel
great on a rewatch. Riz Ahmed is somebody that pretty
much always makes amazing choices in the films that he's in,
and I feel like this is going to be an undersung,
(33:22):
underground hit because it's it's pretty stupendous. After that, two
films that I thought I was gonna hate, and I
did end up hating one of them. I saw the
film Eat It with like all of the IT women
at the moment. We've got on a day Armis, We've
got Sidney Sweeney and on top of that, we got
(33:42):
Jude Law, We've got oh Man. Incredible, incredible performance from
somebody that I feel like he has been mostly mia
for a while, but somebody's be like, no, he was
in three movies last year. Daniel Brule, I feel like,
is the star of this film. He is stupendous in
this role. That was quite good. I didn't go into
this knowing that this was based on a true story,
(34:04):
and finding out that it was, I was taken aback
and thought that they were kind of like hollywooding up
some of the details. No, turns out most of it
was factual. I don't understand how that's the case. But yes,
it was very good. It is much better than expected.
It's not like a four star movie or anything like that.
(34:24):
It's about three and a half maybe four stars, but
it's pretty good. The other movie though, Trust, starring Sophie Turner,
Nobody should watch this film. This is such a poorly
handled film that you have to suspend your belief for everything.
And when you're literally rooting this in realism and nothing
about it is realistic, it doesn't work. That's not how
(34:46):
realistic movies are ever going to work on screen. So
because of that, I don't understand how Sophie Turner put
all her money into executive producing this thing.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I'll watch it because it's Sophie Turner.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
She's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
I will admit, I will. It's a good actor, she
really is, and she she.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Pulls it off seasonally, just it's I don't know. It's
not great for those that didn't see the previous for
this one, because it really got underplayed everywhere. Trust is
literally about a Hollywood star that grew up as a
child star and a bunch of her not necessarily nudes,
but like private photos got leaked online and so all
(35:24):
of these paparazzi ares certainly starting a former house, and
she feels like her privacy is invaded, and following that
she says, I'm just gonna get away. She goes and
rents an airbnb. She goes to stay up there, and
through a couple of things happening, she gets locked in
a bathroom in an airbnb with a couple of people
trying to get at her from the other side of
the door, and it turns into like this weird I
(35:47):
don't even want to call it like a crime caper
because it's not. It's more just like a comedy of errors,
like getting stuck on an elevator.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Kind of huh, but sounds like streaming material.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
It very much is. But I will say this is
the first movie in years that I literally, and this
is not played up for laughs or anything in the screening,
I had an actual face palm, hit my forehead so hard.
My wife goes what's wrong moment because it was such
a dumb thing to happen in the movie. I don't understand.
(36:23):
Go check out Trust if that's what you're into, If
you're a little bit nihilistic and wondering how it feels
to be subjected to it.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
It's probably out of theater already.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Oh yeah, I don't even think it played a full week,
which is hilarious. Carrie Mulligan says here, I've seen all
those films, and Trust is definitely a train wreck of
subplots and tones. The tones are the funniest thing because
they're played it really serious and then they show suddenly
these three criminals and they're like, come on, man, let's
go and it's like that's not real. People.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
Sounds like multiple writers.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Yeah, I would not be surprised. All right, we are
into the next second. Anything else before announcement to night
anything that I'm forgetting that was a big deal this week.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
It's been a busy weeks. Spent a week, that's the
best way to put it. It's been a week. Well,
let's get in some announcements.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Let's do it. There's still a lot. There's still a
lot to cover this week. And the first one is
kind of huge, and we got multiple releases of this. Yes,
this first picture is screwed up, but we'll look at
the right one in just a minute. Oh, Gary saying
he went to the seven pop up last week, so
we're gonna be talking about that thing for sure.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
All right.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
So pre orders of the next Hammer four K box
set out of the UK are now live. This is
coming on October thirteenth, and this is the first of
like the big Hammer titles that they've released. I would
argue that Quid Mass and Couid Mass two are up there,
but that's only because I love those movies. I know
that for a lot of people, those are still very
(37:52):
low on the the Hammer totem pole. I guess the
next thing that is a big deal here is that
we have dueling releases. So if you're not in the
UK and you don't want to import this, we're going
to talk about that just a second. This is the
Curse of Frankenstein from nineteen fifty seven. This is directed
by Terrence Fisher, starring the two main men, Peter Cushing
(38:13):
Christopher Lee. This is one of Hammer's greats. This is
one that people wanted for a long time. They started
teasing this and people went crazy. This is a six
disc release, I repeat, six disc release of the Curse
of Frankenstein. As we look at this release, keep in
mind all of the details on this, because it is
(38:33):
a beautiful looking release. More to come on the details, however,
We've got the film on four K, We've got the
film on Blu Ray. All of these things about these
two releases are going to be identical, except for the
Hammer release over in the UK has a very specific
special disc in here that covers where does it start here,
(38:54):
mister Cushing, mister Lee, a Hammer exclusive, a behind the
scenes recording made during the narration sessions for Flesh and Blood,
and what is flesh and Blood? Flesh and Blood is
Ted Newsome's fascinating feature length documentary that is not going
to be on the dueling release that we're about to
be talking about in just a moment. Everything else is.
So this is the Giant Hammer release. This has some
(39:15):
printed material that aren't gonna be on the other release.
But what is that other release. It is this beautiful
looking Warner Archive four K release. And this is going
to be coming as a I think it's four disc release,
it might be five, I don't remember. Oh it's sorry,
three disc release. So two four k's and a Blu
(39:37):
ray with all the special features. So this has all
of the bonus features that are on The Hammer and
so all of these things. We're talking commentaries, we're talking
different versions of the film, We're talking lots of featurettes
from way back in the day from Hammer, from the
Hammer Archives. There is so much here that it is
too much to cover, So we're not going to go
(39:57):
through it. That being said Warner Arc. If you are
in the US, the retail price for this is thirty
five dollars, which means on release you're gonna be able
to get it for like thirty bucks. And this thing
is the width of a regular Blu ray case and
is not a Giant Bucks. So you don't need to
go out there and spend eighty dollars on the Hammer
release unless you're collecting all of them. I understand the
(40:18):
temptation there. That being said, these are beautiful looking releases,
and you're gonna be happy with either one, I promise,
and they work together on it.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Yeah. Yeah, that UK release though, that's sexy. You could
take like almost a week and just go through it.
This is a movie for me. I've spoken about it before.
There was this show we used to watch on Saturday
nights at midnight call Friday Night, and it would show
all these old movies and all the Crystal Lee movies
(40:49):
and the Bensent Price movies were so big, and this
was like a big deal. When this came on like
next day, people were talking about it like it was
a brand new movie. So I never even thought we
would get any kind of like HT level release of this.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
So for this and what is this?
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Is this? One Archives? Second four K after Searches fourth
four K? Oh wow?
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Okay, so they did the Searchers, they did the Michael
King film that's about to release next week. Good god,
why am I blanking? Get Carter h And then they
did the the one from the fifties that just premiered
on Blue Raine four K at the same time. But
I'm not remembering that people had to mail in to
get a slipcover for it. Everybody in the chat, you'll
(41:38):
tell me in just a second. I can't remember that one.
But this will be the fourth one actually released.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
Yeah, I didn't realize Get Caught it was one Archive released.
It's a good movie too, but yeah, this is one
that would tempt me to get the Hammer release and
it would be one of my first So nice. But
you know, like you said, for thirty bucks for a
three discs, just a really good high Society.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
High Society is the second four K.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
From Warner Archive. Yeah, okay, nice? All right?
Speaker 2 (42:11):
So that that is everything for Chris of Frankenstein. It's
a lot. They're coming out within a week of each other,
mostly the same features. That's pretty much all you need.
To know if you are region be friendly. All of
the Hammer discs are going to be region B locked
except for the four k's. There was a lot of
people putting up the rumor that the uhds would be
region locked. They are not. Hammer is not stupid. Uhds
(42:35):
are supposed to be region free. They will be region free.
You can count on that, and they have promised it.
That's it. Go to the rest of them, because this
was a hell of a way to start the week.
Next a lower point. October seventh, AMC is releasing Walking Dead,
(42:55):
Dead City season two on Blu Ray. It's a two
disc set. Enjoy I didn't even know that was happening.
We got to release details. Keena Lurber releasing The Cat
in the Canary from nineteen twenty seven on four K
and Blu Ray also on October twenty eighth. This was
just fairly recently released on Blu Ray for the first
time by Eureka. This is going to have the new
(43:18):
UHD SDR Master on here and a four K restoration
from the original Nitrate Prince on top of what was
on the discs prior. There are two new audio commentaries
on this, one from David del Val and Randy Haytercamp
and then one from Anthony Slide and yeah, this is
probably going to look fantastic.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Yeah, we're going from most then to ONPS Now. I
love that. I love that we're going back to nitrates. Hey,
save it. I'm all into film restoration, So save as
much as you can. You're talking about it, almost one
hundred year movie. Save it, Save it, put it on
the highest format possible. Futures to discover.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Please nitrates on UHD. That's a big thing.
Speaker 3 (44:05):
That's beautiful, that's so beautiful.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
After Kat and the Canary, Terror Vision last week we
had a live stream that had a lot of interruptions
because of Brad's terrible Internet, but we had to announce
Death Nerve Video, which is a brand new sub label
from TerrorVision that is going to be focusing on Jallo,
Neo Giallo and Yallo adjacent and influenced films in the catalog.
(44:30):
Brad went on a long, long explanation on why this
is its own sub label and talked about the art
in depth on how we are really making these try
to look like the old pulp novels, really beautiful art
on these. I am so happy to be a part
of some of these and what we are putting on
the line, I think you're gonna love this movie. This
(44:53):
is called the Last Screening. This is releasing in October
on Blu Ray. This is the first release of this
film out of its homecom of France. This is from
twenty eleven. But don't let that put you off, because
if you watch the trailer for this, it squarely looks
like it was filmed in nineteen eighty three. It is
absolutely a beautiful looking movie that feels like it is
(45:13):
harkening back to the absolute hype of Jiallo and I
hope you check it out because it's great looking. We
got a new commentary on this with Brad Henderson, of course,
and this is his first solo commentary, so give him
some some feedback if you listened to it. We've got
some new interviews on this one as well, and then
a visual essay on the French new wave horror on
(45:35):
audio essay by Paul Le and then some raw footage.
There's a lot of great stuff. We already have eight
or nine different films licensed for the sub label, and
I hope people are excited because it's probably going to
be mostly surprises.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
Each and every single time that something gets announced. That's
pretty cool. Neo Jallo. That looks like it was so
I'm thirty.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
It's it's prior and it was shot on films, so
it really leans.
Speaker 3 (46:00):
Into that feeling nice.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
That definitely helps about terror Vision. Tomorrow is the fourth
week in the thirteen weeks of Halloween. Somehow this train
is still moving. Wanted to let everybody know because I
don't think Brad has hinted at this everywhere. There is
no live stream tomorrow. We're just gonna be quietly dropping
some stuff on the website, so keep an eye out
(46:23):
for that. I'm not even sure what time's going up,
but I am excited for it. The hint that he
has given is that it is a splatter comedy from
twenty fifteen, and it's a good movie. I worked on
it with some friends and I hope you check it
out because it's one that I think a lot of
people are going to be excited when they finally give
it a watch. Look at this, My friend John Daily
(46:46):
is here. John, You're the best, And yeah it does
look zero percent twenty eleven.
Speaker 3 (46:50):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Next up is One on One Films putting out Helloween
from this year on Blu Ray on October thirteenth over
in the UK. This has a commentary with the director
of making a featurette some deleted scenes and I had
never heard of this one, but I gotta be honest,
I love a lot of like Halloween set movies. I
wouldn't mind checking this out. I'll probably just scream it.
I probably wouldn't buy it, but I would. I wouldn't
(47:16):
mind seeing it.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
I mean I thought it was like some crow ripoff,
but I'd definitely check it out.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
I got many comments that said that, and well, most
people didn't say Billy the Puppet. Most people said, is
that a fake Jigsaw? Yeah? So Severn, as we just
mentioned from our friend Gary Richardson in chat, Severn had
their super Shock pop up film festival in LA this
(47:44):
last weekend where they revealed some trailers from some upcoming titles.
They even played some of the upcoming titles and one
that they played is this first film. Now, the hard
part is we don't know release dates for any of these.
They could be before the end of the year, they
could be in two years. Stuff that they played it
during last year's festival still hasn't released yet. They're still
working on them, so we're not exactly sure when all
(48:05):
these are coming out, but we're gonna We're gonna try
to highlight the more important ones of these and blaze
through a couple that we don't have any real details on,
so we'll talk about those later, but first, The Hunters
of the Golden Cobra. This is from nineteen eighty two,
and this says an American soldier and a British intelligence
agent try to track down an ancient relic called the
Golden Cobra, rumored to have supernatural powers. A lot of
(48:26):
people that were their lives said it was pretty fun.
I don't know anything about it because I've never seen
this one me either, That's what I thought, moving right
along one I have seen. They revealed that they've got
a four K coming of Mario Baba's Abbey of Blood
from nineteen seventy one. So obviously this hurts for a
(48:50):
lot of people that bought the Shout Factory box set
that just came out recently. Considering two of the films
that you just got in literally less than a month
ago are already being upgraded to four K. I bet
we're never going to hear the story behind that. But
I have a feeling it's probably something like they could
only license it for a very short period of time.
(49:12):
They had to release it now, and they pounced, and
they probably took advantage of people.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
And very hush hush too, because the different to the
formatting and the licensing. You know, people will not buy
the Blu Ray if they know it a four K
is coming, just like if we know a certain studio
of boutique labels putting out a four K and somebody
does it before, we're like, yeah, let's wait for so
and so to put it out. SS in it.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
That being said, that's funny. Although SS usually a bad thing,
but in this case is good. The what I will
say is if you have that Shout Factory box set,
as much as you want to feel downtrodden about it,
it's still a beautiful box set. The extras are heard well,
the the HD scans look great, and you got a
(50:02):
good deal because it's so many films and it's only
like I think I averaged it out to like thirteen
fifty a film or something like that. That's great. A
lot of those other ones are out of Prince you scored. Still,
I know it doesn't feel like that, but you did
try not to.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
You could still pick up this four K if that's
like your favorite from the set or whatever. It's not
going to break you.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
It's true, it's true. I just got a text somebody
shocked because they said KB is fifty three KB.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Held, are you fifty five double Nickel like Jordan.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
Nichols double Nichols this weekend? Happy I've already said it
like four times, but happy late birthday.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
Thank you, sir. Still celebrating. It's August.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
I'm still celebrating.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
Yeah, still, it's it's birthday month. Oh that's funny. They
never mind. We'll talk about that after, because it wasn't
about maybe anyways. The next title is beat Girl aka
Wild for Kicks from nineteen sixty. This one says an
impetuous teenage girl becomes involved with Soho's Beatnick and Striptea
(51:09):
scenes to spite her staid architect father and her French
ex stripper stepmother. I've not seen this one, but my goodness,
does this look like a Severn poster?
Speaker 3 (51:20):
Looks like a ride?
Speaker 2 (51:23):
Yeah? I think I think they played this one live.
I don't remember if they did, but I think so.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
It's got Christopher Lee in it. Perhaps this will be
in another Christopher.
Speaker 3 (51:38):
Lee box set. There you go.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
And now one of the bigger stories come out of
this last weekend, they announced that they are doing a
Blu ray of The Crippled Masters from nineteen seventy nine. Now,
you may have seen that this was just released on
Blu Ray last year by film Masters here in the
US as well. Unfortunately, Severed themselves came to my post
on Facebook and commented in the chats or in the
(52:02):
comment section. I'm used to saying chat for everything. Severn
came and commented in the comments that filmmasters bootlegged this film.
They did not have the right And Severn has restored
this from a four K scan of the best preservation
elements and it is going to look night and day
way better than the film master's release. So if you
bought the release from film Masters like I did, don't
(52:23):
feel bad that this is getting released. This is going
to be a legal release. You didn't do anything wrong
by buying it, and it will be an upgrade.
Speaker 3 (52:31):
If you purchased this one, absolutely yeah, if you bought it,
and it doesn't exists in any other form of physical media,
like some movies who we'll talk about later tonight. Don't
feel bad, feel bad if you don't buy the actual
version after it comes out. Yep.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
I love that people are pointing out the foreign name
on the top. Oh man, all right, so that's not it.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
It so for it. It's supposed that made it that way.
But I remember these Bruce Lae movies, all these fake
Bruce Lee movies after he was dead.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
Yes, yes, indeed. Next one is Adam and Eve. This
one is from nineteen eighty three. Also coming soon from seven.
This is God cast Adam and Eve out of the
Garden of Eden because Eve decided to eat a forbidden
apple that a talking snake told her to eat. I've
heard this one before, and it says the disgraced couple
find themselves battling a coterie of various creatures, very curious.
(53:34):
There was a vote on which of the third films
would be to watch, and Adam and Eve is the
one that won. So everybody got to see this. I
hope they enjoyed it, because I have never seen this.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
Yeah either.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
Next up from them, they announced a couple pretty big
Alex Winter titles. First is The Idiot Box from nineteen
ninety one. After the success of Bill and Ted, Winter
and his directing partner Time were able to sell a
series to MTV and it was the first live action
shows ever on the network. It was one of the first.
It all started around the same time Super Violent, Politically Incorrect,
(54:10):
The Idiot Box was a huge hit and I cannot
wait to see what they do for this. This is
like a how did they ever manage to get this
license to put out? And good job seven because this
is gonna be huge.
Speaker 3 (54:23):
Well, I don't think Paramount was going to put it
out as owners of MTV, so for them to pull
the license probably was not a big deal. But I
remember this. It was. It was a controversial show at
the time when it was on because everybody was suspect
(54:44):
that's the way to put it.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
Yeah, yeah, I get that. I'm very curious if Paramount
actually still has the rights. I know it was MTV then,
but I have a feeling because by the time they
released this, it'll be twenty five years or thirty five years,
it's very close to an even number that I feel
like rights might have lapsed. And considering what's happening with
this and the other Alex Winter thing and freaked all
(55:06):
at the same time. I kind of feel like something unlocked.
Speaker 3 (55:10):
Around then, yeah, get your own rights.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
Next up, they're also doing Squeal of Death. This is
another Alex Winter title that says absurd slapstick cartoon like
comedy about Howie, a scrawny kid pushed around by a
slob dad and everyone else he loves cinema becomes obsessed
with a gangster film. This pushes him over the edge
of the life of crime, or does it. This is
from nineteen eighty five. This one I've never seen anything
(55:34):
from and I'm very eager to check this one out.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Yeah, I've never even heard of this title and that
sounds like BHS you know, heyday. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
Absolutely. Then they also announced its starting Confidential from nineteen
eighty six. This with the one and only Marlon Jackson
from the Jackson Five. Four high school students are led
to the world of adult vices by a shadowy millionaire.
Have you seen this one? Mm hmm, I have never
seen this one. Tell us about it.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
It's the atypical raunchy sex comedy, but it's it's a
little more edgy than your typical sexteen kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (56:16):
But nice.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
I haven't seen it since I would say, like late eighties,
so but I remember, like the poster and all that
stuff I miss, you know, like video store that would
just have posters and they would rotate them out every
week or every two weeks. So yeah, I remember this one.
Speaker 2 (56:37):
I can't wait to get this one. This sounds really
fun and I've had it. For those that want to
see a trailer, I could only find a trailer on
Daily Motion. It's not on YouTube or anywhere else, so
if you want to see what it's about. Good, It's
like the lowest res ever, but it's worth it's worth seeing. Yeah.
Next is The Ghost from nineteen sixty three. This is
(56:59):
coming soon as well. This is a Barbara Steele starring film,
and Diabolic chimed in that this got a four K restoration,
so this will likely be a UHD. And if I'm
guessing this will probably be in the next Donz of
Macabra set that they do would not surprise me at all.
This will probably be the big title in that one.
Barbara Steel, You've seen much with her, mm hmm. She
(57:22):
is rather great, rather great. I've never seen this movie,
but yeah, love me some Barbara Steel.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
Cool.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Next is The Hands of Orlock from nineteen sixty, also
getting a release from them soon. This is another Christopher
Lee film. Would not be surprised if this was in
that box set with the other film that we were
just talking about. For another Christopher Lee set. This is
the same premise for like a handful of movies that
you've seen before. Somebody has an accident and they have
to get like a transplant, and when they get these
(57:51):
other body parts attached to them, suddenly it's the other
person's hands.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
Woo killing And.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
Yeah, very curious to check this out out. I want
to see how they did this in nineteen sixty. One
of the more exciting announcements because this sounds frickin huge.
They are doing a classif Kada S box set. So
for those that don't know, Classificata S was a rating
system used in Spain during the time of the rule
(58:22):
of Franco one of the cause he was in If
I remember right the sixties and seventies. I should have
brushed up on this before the show tonight. But essentially
they're going to be doing a nineteen film box set
on ten different discs, including the documentary that they did
called exercismo, the transgressive legacy of classificata s there's going
(58:45):
to be some extracism, not spoofs, but like basically we're
doing our version of the extra system here and then
a whole bunch of other stuff, but the right up
for the documentary here. It sounds incredible, it says Franco's
death in nineteen seventy five opened the doors to the
possibility of uncensored cinema. After two years in which censorship
(59:06):
was relaxed, in nineteen seventy seven it was completely abolished,
and the S classification was created to protect viewers from
those films that could hurt their sensitivity. The S classification
was granted when the content was especially violent, sexual, or political,
creating a mixed bag in which all types of unclass
unclassifiable films could fit in force from nineteen seventy eight
(59:27):
to nineteen eighty three, this classification turned out to be
a great commercial attraction for a society that had suffered
four decades of national Catholic dictatorship and repression. So that
sounds amazing.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
Yeah, it sounds like the Spanish version of video nasties
and just getting a box out of like some of
the more well known ones. Hopefully. If that's the case.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
We could start calling them the Spanish nasties. I'm into it,
that's what the ess is for. Hey, there's one i'd see.
This is not the only box that they announced, because
they also announced an Emmanuel four film four K box set.
This is coming soon ish from what I hear, and
this is not a part of the Black Emmanuel stuff.
(01:00:15):
Black Emanuel started after these. The Sylvia Cristelle films are
what inspired the Black Emmanuel films with Laura Gimser. And
to get all four of these and four K from
a company that is going to do just incredible work
on them is pretty astonishing. Considering the backstory behind these films,
they have inspired probably literally hundreds of films throughout film history,
(01:00:38):
and this is going to do very well for seven.
Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
Yeah. I went from seeing posters for it walking through
like Times Square as a kid. Too. Oh wait a minute,
they don't care what I read now at this video store.
Let me go to this section and yeah, I've definitely
seen I don't remember any of them, but I've definitely
(01:01:03):
seen the majority of them. So, just like with Blacking Manuel,
it would be nice to revisit and check out.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
Yep. I can't wait and to be able to see Okay,
oh man, there's a TV a manual series.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
I've spent way too many teenage nights watching him. Oh man,
that is great. Uh okay, So that was it. We'll
talk about Life at Chuck in just a second. But huge,
huge super Shock pop up film festival for seven lots
of crazy things coming. Glad they're doing these for those
(01:01:43):
that have not ever looked into seven whole lot. If
you have questions, let me know here to talk about it.
They are They're great, They're great at what they do.
Life of Chuck getting a four K blu Rainge DVD
over in the UK from Studio Canal coming soon. We
don't have a date on this one yet, but there
is some onset interviews with she would tell Edgy of
(01:02:04):
four and Mark Hamill and Tom Hiddleston. There's a making
of and then of course they had to get Mike
Flanagan down for a commentary. Did you get to see
this one?
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
I think I start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
Was it the same day? It was the same day.
I've seen many movies this year. I couldn't remember if
it was that day. Yes, it was I love this movie.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
This is still my number two film this year, so
did I. It's especially I think in the States that's
getting an October release as well. And it's so weird
to see a non horror movie from not only from
Flann and Flann again. You know, I think of the
(01:02:48):
two of them, I think of Doctor Sleep, and I
still wonder why that directors cut. It's only on Blu Ray,
and it's not a risky blind by. It's a really
well done movie and you can really get into it.
I don't know, I just really enjoyed it. I didn't
expect anything. Besides, you know, Inflant again, we trust and
(01:03:12):
I wasn't disappointed at all. I thought it was a
beautiful movie. Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
And if this is somehow not special enough and you're
in the UK, they're doing this really nice looking special
edition that is an HMV exclusive, and this is this
is where it gets tough, because we talked about all
the shipping stuff earlier. Even if that wasn't enough, HMV
doesn't ship internationally at all, so there's literally no way
to get this unless you got a friend over in
(01:03:38):
the UK.
Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
So we get the emails from them and it's almost
like torture. When they send the exclusives, I'm like, why
don't I just unsubscribe because I cannot order anything from them. Yeah,
but some of the things, and anyone that I know
lives closer to a FOP than HMV. So I'm like,
(01:03:59):
it's beautiful colors alone, yeah, before you get all the
other stuff inside.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
But it's and it's the rest of stuff isn't even
that special. There's a couple like postcards, art cards, booklet, whatnot.
Speaker 3 (01:04:13):
I just like that way looks Yeah, it's just pretty
specially happy. You say to the movie and you look
at that cover art, it makes so much sense.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Yeah right there, absolutely absolutely stunning. So this is interesting.
So out of nowhere, Diabolic DVD got an exclusive release
listed on their site. This is from Karumbola Media and
this is Forgotten Pistolero from nineteen sixty nine, and this
is a two disc set. Disc one has the feature
(01:04:43):
in English, disc two has it in Italian with non
removable English subtitles. And then there's a Leonard Man interview
conducted by tough Guy expert Mike malloy. And supposedly this
is through a deal over with IFD who owns a
lot of films at a house Hong Kong, I believe
is what I was told. Jared Honor from a Neon
(01:05:04):
Eagle and Monto Micabro helped me out with that one
because I had never heard of Karen Bull Media and
they're not listed anywhere. I can't find a website or anything.
This is literally only available from Diabolic and it's it's
not super expensive. I think it was like twenty twenty
bucks twenty five something like that, but yeah, if you're
after this movie, this is the only place to get it.
And I don't think if I remember, I don't think
(01:05:24):
it's on Blu Ray anywhere else. So if you're into
spaghetti westerns, this is for you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Yeah. I won't be surprised if they started doing more
things like that. So that's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Yeah, And through it sounds like through their hookups with
like Neon Eagle and Mondo Micabro stuff, they found the
right people to license this from as an exclusive release,
so that looks cool. Very Umbrella, who I always love,
announced some some pretty big cool things this month. So
December third is the release date for all of these.
(01:05:57):
The first one they've been teasing all year and it
is Lake Mungo in four K. Lake Mungo is from
two thousand and eight. It is a depressing is probably
too light of a word for many people horror movie.
The synopsis they use here is sixteen year old Alice
Palmer drowns while swimming in a local dam. When her
(01:06:18):
body is recovered and a verdict of accidental death returned,
her grieving family buries her. The family then experiences a
series of strange and inexplicable events centered in and around
their home. Profoundly unsettled, the Palmer seek the help of
a psychic who discovers that Alice let a secret double life.
A series of clues lead the family to Lake Mungo,
where Alice's secret past emerges. Now you might have heard
(01:06:40):
of this title because Second Site just fairly recently put
this out. They put it on Blu Ring, and this
is a four K, so obviously that's an upgrade. That
being said, this is not just a format upgrade. This
has a hundred plus page hardback book featuring behind the
Seeds content and essays by gilasby Kevin Fisher and John Brawley.
(01:07:02):
Another one hundred plus page softback book featuring the original
shooting script. There's a scrapbook of photography. There's a custom artwork,
rigid slipcase, eight R cards, a reversible poster, and then
of course all the stuff that comes on the discs.
And usually that would have been enough, but oh man.
There is a three hour retrospective featuring the cast and crew.
(01:07:23):
There's a new commentary with Chris Stuckman. Yes, that Chris Duckman,
who's about to release a film that you've heard of
from his i mentally popular YouTube channel over the years.
Even though he lost some notoriety, a lot of people
lover hate him, he's passionate about film. I'm glad they
got him on here. There is new never before seen
footage that's not just like a featurette. This is hours
(01:07:44):
of never before seen footage. Selection of scenes from early
cuts of Lake Mungo, the original Lake Mungo mood Reel,
with an introduction from the producer and the cinematographer. There
is a piece by Alexander Heller Nicholas on the ancestors
and legacy of Alice Palmer. Is a new legacy of
Like Mungo piece with interviews with the filmmakers, the filmmakers
(01:08:05):
being Justin Curzell, Mike Flanagan, Eduardo Sanchiez, David A. Smalchin
and more huge names to get on this disc. And
that's not even it, like they've got a whole bunch
of other stuff. This is crazy. And on top of
all that, it's authored by Fidelity Emotions, so it's gonna
look great.
Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Lake Mungo, have you seen this one? Kibbi creepy af
That's all I gotta say. And I never picked up
the second site release, but I heard it's really good.
The one question I have about this is this separate
from the documentary. I think it's like Beyond Lake Mungo
or something like that that e'minel or is that included
(01:08:46):
on here?
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
I believe that is a completely different one if I remember. Okay, yeah,
because there the Doucu the word documentary isn't even on here.
Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
Yeah, so there there is something separate coming out that
is going to be a documentary. I don't know how
it relates to this. I just saw it in passing,
but I don't know. This looks like a different foray
for Umbrella and I'm definitely excited about this and I'm
thinking about picking it up if I don't go crazy
(01:09:19):
on Black Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:09:21):
Yeah, this is pretty cool. Love this movie. It's it's
a really good one. I will agree with. I'm sorry
if I butcher the username here and tell agato intelligado gelato.
Speaker 3 (01:09:33):
Something like that. I think you had to se Lake
Mungo when it came out.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Lots of films have taken from it since, where it
probably isn't aged well. I would understand that, but I
would also say, if you're into this style of film,
it probably still hits at least a little bit. But truly,
I think a lot of people since two thousand and
eight have been turned away from this style. Paul says
it could be the three hour retrospective on the disc.
(01:09:56):
Maybe maybe it does say Lake Mungo re visited. I'm
not sure.
Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
Yeah, I'll look into it more.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
Next up, another one that has been teased for a while,
Angels Egg from nineteen eighty five. This is the anime
film that a lot of people have been desperately wanting
for a while. This is only available from Umbrella if
you want the Collector's edition, and with that you get
a forty eight page booklet, a behind the scenes material
and new essays and on the disc. We had a
new audio commentary with amber t new piece on the
(01:10:28):
influence of Angel's Egg with Andrew Osmond, new piece by
Jasper Sharp on Angel's Egg, and then there is a
tif Q and a with memorro Oshi, who is the
filmmaker behind the film. I've never seen this. I've heard
it's great def Crocodile was trying to go after this
film and g Kids ended up with it, so considering
(01:10:48):
they went after it, it's probably incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:10:52):
Never heard of it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
It's mostly next up as part of the Umbrella slate,
which is massive December third, a Blu ray of Quest
four Fire from nineteen eighty one. This is set eighty
thousand years ago and is a piece that doesn't have
a forty eight page booklet again, new audio commentary with
(01:11:15):
Rob Kelly, new interview from twenty twenty one with the director.
New piece by Brent Tilley. Audio commentary that is archival
from the filmmaker and some others. Ron Perlin is in
Quest for Fire. I've not seen this one. You seem familiar.
You've seen this one before.
Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
There used to be this closed circuit TV service called
WHT when I was growing up, and all the kids
wanted it because yeah, you could see sports and boxing
and all that stuff, but you could see RATEDAR movies.
And you know, this was before HBO was big in
our area and everything. And I remember sleeping over at
(01:11:54):
my buddy's house and we watched Conan and then we
watch Question of Fire and I thought it would be
like really like it elating and all that. I fell asleep,
but unos enough for me. But yeah, I've seen It's okay.
It's it's nice to see something from that time period
(01:12:18):
being released, especially getting this kind of royal treatment. But yeah,
I don't know. I'd have to revisit it, and I
don't know if I'll revisit in a physical standpoint. If
I could stream it someway, I probably would before I
make that call. But well, it's nice to see these
getting released.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
That's the reality of the umbrella stuff. Like a lot
of us would love to have many of these on
our shelves. But the truth is, at fifty five dollars,
is the cheapest of their collector's editions. And we're talking,
I mean this is probably pretty close. Just a few
weeks ago, going in the Jetly collection from Shout and
showed it on here. Most of them are about this thick.
(01:12:55):
And when you're talking about this, this is the size
of almost six regular Blu Ray cases. This is like
basically the average size. And once you get ten films,
that's like a shelf and a half right there. For
many of us, that's a lot and so well, and
literally at almost sixty dollars apiece, it is a huge
(01:13:17):
monetary investment for a blind buy for a lot of people.
So I understand wanting to see many of these first,
and that's why I would say I wouldn't really spring
from any of these collectors editions unless it's a movie
that you know and love. That being said, watch something first,
try it out, see if you want it. Who knows,
Quest for Fire might be your new favorite movie's tr
true move in right along from there, we got I
(01:13:39):
believe this is the last one from Umbrella. We've got
Gi Samurai aka Time Slip from nineteen seventy nine, also
coming in Blu Ray. This is a sunny Chiba film.
Has a forty eight page booklet with essays by Patrick Macias,
Jonathan Clement's new audio commentary by Patrick masciis as well.
There's a conversation on here with the screenwriter to Shio
Kamata some archival interviews. I've not seen this one, but
(01:14:03):
I've heard that it's pretty good and it does sound
like the storyline of a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court,
which for some reason I always love that story. Just
a man at a place. It makes for some stuff happening.
I've seen a lot of sunny Tuba films. This is
not one of them. I love discover This looks like
(01:14:24):
a money grab if any samurais and tanks in the background.
Speaker 4 (01:14:32):
What a combination. Amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
Oh that wasn't everything from Umbrella because I totally forgot
about Bambi the Reckoning from this year the next in
their Nightmare Kids film releases, this is a Ruined Childhood
sixteen page kids book included with this with some custom illustrations,
some art cards, reversible poster, new audio commentary by Dan
(01:14:56):
Allen and the cinematographer Vince Knight. There's new Behind the
Madness featurette, new on set FEATURETTE, new Deleted Scenes featurette,
and a new trailer. These are all new because the
film literally just released bamb Be the Reckoning. Did you
give time for this? In the theater.
Speaker 3 (01:15:11):
Oh god, no, I all of them, not even the
Pool movies. I have like zero interest in it. If
if I'm somewhere and somebody puts it on, maybe, but.
Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
I got things on wrap eats movies.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
Somebody has to tell me it's really good, and I
could halfway believe them and try it, but now.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
So unfortunately I did put time into this in the
theater and did go see this in an amc in Oleaitha, Kansas. Jeez,
this movie is straight garbage. I do understand why people.
I do understand why people enjoy it. The CGI creature
at times looked okay, but for the most part it's
real bad. This is like, this is like early two
(01:15:56):
thousands level CGI and many of the scenes and I
I swear half this movie was, hey, kid, go check
on your grandma, who just wandered away in the middle
of this giant like terrible traumatic experience we're all having
that shouldn't be thirty eight minutes of your film, guys,
come on, like, what are we doing. The one thing
(01:16:17):
I will say is people were not necessarily terrible actors
in this, which is surprising for a film like this.
If you're into these weird public Domain films. This is
one of the better ones, but the bar is very
low to beat those.
Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
I'll say this, those kids books that come with them
are really really cool because they try to make it
look like authentic. I've seen the one for Pooh and
I was like, wow, this looks pretty good. But outside
of that, now I'd rather go watch.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
Something literally anything, all right. So that is Bambi the
Reckoning from this year. Check it out if you're in it,
because I wasn't. Imprint had announced some things last week
and for some reason my posts never went up, so
here they are catching up.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Late.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
Imprint announced that they are doing a Blu Ray drop
for Captain Scarlett and the Misterns the complete series. This
is from nineteen sixty seven and sixty eight. If you
see some of this art and you recognize it, you'll
recognize that probably is Jerry Anderson Art and Sylvia Anderson Art.
These are the same people that did the Thunderbirds. Lots
(01:17:29):
of extras on here you got a five disc Blu
ray set, ninety four page hardcover booklet. Looks like a
great release. I believe this has already been released over
in the UK, so this might be all new for you.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Check it out.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
I don't know anything about the show, never seen it.
The next one I have seen and I adore. In Australia,
they are releasing Colchak The night Stalker the Complete Series.
This is a four disc set. It's got a forty
eight page hardcover booklet limited to fifteen hundred copies. All
of the same extras that are on the keynot discs,
which there's a lot. There's commentaries on literally every single episode.
(01:18:05):
And shout out to a friend of the channel, Chris Dashu,
who's been here on here many times and he's on
one of the episodes with Mike White, the projection with podcasts. Yeah,
col check is great. Are you a cold check person?
If you check this out?
Speaker 3 (01:18:18):
I've never checked it out. I remember when Keno dropped.
It was like two different series that yeah put out
at the same time or one after the other.
Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
But I've never gotten into it.
Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
And I think Nathan was telling me about it as
well to check out, but yeah, it never got that far. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:18:37):
And then finally is Department S the Complete Series. Another
one that I had never heard of. This is from
nineteen sixty eight to sixty nine. What is a British
show seven disc blu ray set with a two hundred
and twenty eight page hardcover booklet Jesus Wow. A bunch
of new extras on this, tons of new commentaries, a
lot of people that were involved in stuff related to this,
(01:18:58):
or ITC which is a British production company. Kim Newman's
on a handful of these. Some names that you recognize,
good look and set if you know department s check
it out. One that was kind of timely. This is
really funny. November eighteenth, Keno is putting out a blu
ray of I'm George Lucas, a Connor Ratflifs Connor Ratliffe
(01:19:21):
story from twenty twenty four. This is a documentary about
a stand up comedian named Connor Ratliffe who is performing
as George Lucas in his cult comedy act, The George
Lucas Talk Show. This is a co host with Griffin Newman,
who is a part of one of the biggest podcasts
out there, blank Check Podcasts. Funny Enough, Disconnected gut name
(01:19:41):
dropped in one of the more recent blank Check Patreon episodes,
So shout out blank Check. This is primarily going to
be a big deal because this is thirty commentaries for
the exact same documentary. They got everybody associated with this,
a whole bunch of guests that have been on the show,
literally thirty different commentaries, and then a whole second disc
(01:20:05):
of all kinds of extras, eight extended interviews, Alamo, Drafthouse
Intro and Q and a twenty nineteen Star Wars Day
full show with a bunch of people you'll recognize the
names of, and a booklet. Yeah this if you are
a fan of blank Check podcast or Connor Ratliff or
Star Wars or George Lucas, this is probably up pure ally.
But again, thirty commentaries.
Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Dear god, why didn't they just combine them? Like remember
how I'm thinking back, Like I think it was like
the Silence of the Lamb the MGM DVD, and they
had like all the different people, the actors, Jonathan Demi,
and they just kept coming in at different points in
(01:20:45):
a movie with their you know, partial commentary. I can
imagine that for even six or ten people for thirty though,
that's that's kind of crazy. That's a lot of commentary.
Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
That's a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:21:00):
Yeah, but that is that is funny. If you haven't
checked it out.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
Brendan says, anybody got time for that?
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
Yeah? I would.
Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
I would love to find out if like super fans
are listening to all thirty commentaries.
Speaker 3 (01:21:13):
Yeah, by twenty seven, you like, I'm done.
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
By twenty seven, by like four? All right. Another title
that we got some dueling releases for October thirteenth. Over
in the UK, we are getting a four K steel
book of Jacob's Ladder from Studio Canal. This is part
of their Cult Classics line. This is, of course the
beautiful Tim Robbins film that is depressing as hell about
(01:21:39):
the Vietnam War and the horrors that came from it.
This is a brand new four K restoration. It's got
a new piece called On the Rungs of Jacob's Ladder,
a documentary by Dieter Aluch with Adrian Lyne, Tim Robbins
and Bruce Joel Rubin. That being said, this is also
going to be coming out in the US from Lionsgate Limited.
This will be announced on September sixteenth and should be
(01:22:01):
releasing a month or two after that, So if you're
in the US and you are keen to check out
what they have first, this will undoubtedly still be available,
So just wait till September sixteenth and check it out.
But if you're not four K and you want a
different looking Jacob Slider release, they're also doing it on
Blu ray on that same day Over in the UK.
It's got some art cards. But oddly they are turning
(01:22:22):
to this more and more, where the four K is
a steal book and then a standard is only on
Blu ray. I hate the practice. I do kind of
understand it from a monetary standpoint, but for a film
like this, this should be pretty popular.
Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
Yeah. Yeah, And when I saw that Studio Canal was
putting it out, I was waiting for the well, give
it a couple of months and Criterion we'll have it.
So when Lionsgate Limited got it, I was pleasantly surprised
just to have something different. But just like a twenty four,
their releases are getting kind of, you know, stuck to
(01:22:58):
just getting it from them, at least for a little
while before it goes more public.
Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
I wonder if phill be the same way with this one.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
Yeah, Paul is saying that Jacob Slider is also getting
an Aussie four K.
Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
I've not seen that, so thanks for that Paul being
spread around.
Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
Yeah, and it's it's that time just got a four
K restoration, so that makes sense. Music Box Films is
releasing when Fall is coming on October seventh. I have
heard this is a beautiful movie. Would love a chance
to see this and we'll check it out.
Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
About it, Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
Next up Yellowstone the Complete Series, because everybody's clamoring for
this now November eighteenth on Blu Ray from Paramount. This
is one of those giant, gaudy plastic clamshells with who
knows how many discs stacked on the inside. So at
this point, if you're really wanting this and this is
one of your favorite shows, you may as well just
(01:23:58):
go buy all of the season's individual because this is
going to be awful to deal with.
Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
Just every time you open it, you gotta take a
guess on which season this is falling to the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:24:11):
And then choose which one to scratch. Oh wait, never mind,
it was already scratched.
Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
It was already scratched. You're thinking about the DVD that
wasn't scratched.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Touche touche. Uh Together from this Year is coming on
four K Blu ray and DVD in the US from
Neon and dcal on October twenty eighth. I have not
seen some extras on this, but there should be some
on here. I think I've heard that there will be
a couple just waiting to find out some confirmation this one.
(01:24:41):
I really enjoyed.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
What did you think of this one?
Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
KB, Well, I was sitting right next to you.
Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
I know, I'm waiting to hear you say that.
Speaker 3 (01:24:50):
I know. I That was actually my second time seeing it,
so I really enjoyed that. It's probably one of my
avenue category now are adjacent. It wasn't horrific, but it's
area adjacent and I really enjoyed it. And I think
the natural performance from the two of them being a
(01:25:11):
real couple showed on the movie. But it's definitely worth
checking out at least once unless these special features come
out on their Gangbusters. But yeah, you definitely need a
commentary from the two of them. You want to hear
from the two of them. They've been made available for
all kind of other marketing and social media stuff. Do
(01:25:32):
a freaking commentary.
Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
Also, this might be a little weird to rant about
for just a second, but it is very specifically about
this movie because you brought it up to I would
love to see somebody go out and license like some
of these YouTube clips and interviews for the press junkets
that are happening from many of these movies. I mean,
for example, It's not a great movie, I supposedly, I've
(01:25:57):
never seen it, but Madam Webb like there are about
the press junkets behind Madam Webbers. Imagine if those things
were on the disc how many more of us would
have owned that. Just preserve that and say let's throw
this on just as a gag. This is great.
Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
Some of them are better than the movipie, right, especially
to Johnson Ones.
Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
Yeah, and I can't imagine that you couldn't get especially
from some of these, like smaller like TikTok creators. You
could definitely get some of them on there.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
Come on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
Uh okay, So the controversy.
Speaker 3 (01:26:32):
Of the weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:26:34):
I'm talking about this.
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
I don't want anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
I know we already talked about this before. But over
in the UK, Signature Entertainment is putting out a four
K and blu ray of Crocodile Dundee the encore cut.
Now here's the funny thing. Uh, I'm sorry to everybody
that loves it. This movie sucks to begin with. It's
not a good movie. I hate this movie. That being said,
it is still being cut, and it being cut means
(01:26:59):
that is censored. And there's a lot of people that
have said this is not censored because it has to
be the government and it has to be removed to
protect people. That's not the definition of censorship. Keeping a
piece of this from people is literally the definition of censorship.
We should not be supporting censored physical media. I mean,
(01:27:20):
the fact that the scenes are tasteless and don't align
with the sensibilities of twenty twenty five doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
Put that to a side.
Speaker 2 (01:27:29):
It is not transphobic to call against censorship when this
is a part of the film. It is not great
that the joke sucks and is genuinely transphobic. That being said,
that doesn't mean that you should remove it and force
people to essentially learn from their mistakes again by reliving it.
(01:27:50):
Because the absolute ridiculous of this is we are in
a world where right now there are media personnel posting
on social media that people that identify as trands need
to be reported to the FBI because they are walking
around with mental illness and are a danger to society
and that is not what is reality. That makes no sense.
(01:28:13):
And if you believe that, you should not be a
part of this channel. So thank you for subscribing and
have the day you deserve. But I do want to
say that censorship is the problem here. The people that
made this need to understand that it wasn't great then
and it's still not great, but that doesn't mean that
you fuck with the art.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Period.
Speaker 3 (01:28:33):
This is just like the Front Connection Hall over again.
And the fact is if I have to go back
and look at a VHS tape from eighty seven to
get the actual version that you know you can't give
me in twenty five, come on, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Yeah, and funny enough. I mean the ridiculous thing going
back to the beginning is that this film is already
shrouded with that because the version that most of us
have seen is just the US cut, which was already
cut down from the Australian cut, which is ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
Yeah, stupid anyway, either way, doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
Even if it was perfect, I would still not buy
this release. Not an anime person, so I don't know
much about this. But November twenty fifth, Crunchy Role releasing
a steal book Blu Ray Steal Book of Attack on
Titan the Final Season. I don't personally understand how it's
final season and it's from twenty twenty to twenty twenty three,
but I don't understand anime. So good luck with that.
Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
I'll have.
Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
That's my son. He loves this.
Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
I'm the people that I've heard enjoy it, really love it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:47):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
October seventh, from Sony, there's a four K steel Book
and a standard Blu ray and DVD being released of
I Know What You did Last summer. We talked about
this before because the steel book was available. That being said,
now we got some extras and a release date info.
So we got some outtakes, some bloopers coming on here,
deleted extended scenes, returned to Southport. Feature ed on the
(01:30:10):
cast making of And That's It. Did you check this
one out?
Speaker 4 (01:30:16):
No? No desire?
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Well, this movie was not good.
Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
Yeah. When I got the announcement about the four K
Steel Book and the Blue rails like this was somebody,
so I just put it in my story. I'm like,
I'll eventually watch it, but I still go back to
the first one because I think that's where they should
have just stopped. Yeah, absolutely, yeah said no nos.
Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
Next up is another anime that many people are excited about.
This is a Devilman cry Baby the Complete Series Deluxe Edition,
coming from Shout on December ninth on Blu Ray. This
is a deluxe edition with one hundred and sixty page
our book in the clean opening. Not much else on here,
but from what I hear, there's a toss up between
(01:31:04):
whether there will be a standard edition or not. I've
heard that this is great, but I know nothing about it.
Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
Either. A lot of anime tonight. I didn't know there'd
be a test.
Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
Not a ton and thankfully you don't need to write
in Japanese on the test at least. Okay, let's go
to nineteen eighty five for the next eight or ten minutes.
We've got lots of releases coming of the Back to
the Future trilogy. And for everybody that got up in
arms about this today, this is a studio. Studios are
(01:31:37):
around to make money off of their films. This isn't
going to be the last release of Back to the Future.
That's okay. You're not ever forced to buy it, that
being said November tenth on four K. Steele Book over
in the UK, there is a collector's edition coming of
all three of the films. They are not going to
have any new bonus features except for this first one,
(01:32:00):
which has an entirely new disc with bonus features. It's
gonna have forty years later reflecting on Back to the Future,
back to Hill Valley, untold stories of Back to the
Back to the Future, and then TCM Classic Film Festival
panel and a Mystery in History that also has all
of the previously released bonus content with it, the Huey
Lewis music video, all kinds of good stuff. The paper
(01:32:25):
extras that are gonna be coming with this. As you
can see, it's going to have some replicas here, we've
got from the film, We've got Marty's letter to Doc
Brown from Loose Cafe, Save the clock Tower, Flyer, newspaper
articles from nineteen fifty five, Hill Valley, High TARTI Slip
and even more. And then for the second of the films,
(01:32:46):
the one main thing that I want from this is
the Jaws twelve poster, because that's incredible. We've got a
original theatrical art together with the whole host of replica
props that include the Jaws nineteen poster, sparks, almanac, receipt
from the Blast from the Past, store, hoverboard, design art cards,
newspaper articles from twenty fifteen, and much more. And by
the way, all three of these for the UK are
(01:33:08):
housed in one of these like hard box slipcases with
the steel book on the inside. And then for the
third one, again it's no new extras on this one,
but they do have Doc Brown's Western Union letter to
Marty from eighteen eighty five, clock tower photo, the Lorian
blueprints and design art cards, poster featuring the complete timeline
for all three films, and more. And then there's a
(01:33:30):
bonus disc diving you deeper into the making of the
whole trilogy. But that's an old disc. That's okay, Yeah,
lots of each one. It's about fifty pounds.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
Which version do you have.
Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
I've got the really crappy one from was it.
Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
The this is the.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
Fortieth anniversary so I've got the thirty fifth anniversary one.
I think it was the the white, really flimsy case
with three steel books and like a little tiny piece
of foam. It was like one of not that one.
I don't have those ones.
Speaker 3 (01:34:07):
I know people love that one that's not the one
I got. Yeah, I don't need anything after this, unless
you know they put something with the out of Time
lifcens played included, then I might get that. But short
of that, this is good enough for me.
Speaker 2 (01:34:22):
Well, maybe maybe you did not click through enough, because
we're gonna be talking about that in just a minute.
In the US on October fourteenth, they are releasing all
three of them in a four K steel book. This
does not have any of the paper goods, does not
have any extras. It's just the steel book in the
three films with this weird new art that they're going with,
and then taking a break from Back to the Future
(01:34:43):
for just second, we're gonna go back to it back
to Back the Future in just a moment. Full Moon
is putting out this legacy box set. You can pre
order the or not pre order. You can order this now.
This is the Full Moon Legacy box Set, Volume two.
This will have all kinds of stuff here. We got
famous parasite film Gore, Metal Storm, three D, Sword Kill,
(01:35:04):
The Dungeon Master, The Alchemist, Ghoulies, Savage Island, Transfers, and
the best of sex and Violence. Some notes on these
famous TNA film Gore, The Alchemists, and Savage Island are
brand new to Blu Ray in this set. That being said,
it's Full Moon. They're going to release all four of
those on a standalone Blu Ray in the next three
years guaranteed. So if you just don't have those and
(01:35:27):
you want those weight, you'll be able to get them.
The other thing is the Best of Sex and Violence
is gonna be a very exciting one for a lot
of people. This is a brand new thirty five millimeters
scan from a rare theatrical release print. This is the
first time that any film has been scanned for an
HD release for this movie, so that is pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (01:35:46):
I'm just saying, you're trying to figure out what makes
it famous?
Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
It is famous scenes from movies.
Speaker 3 (01:35:54):
Ah, Okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
So basically mister Skin Volume one. There is a deal
happening right now. If you order this set from Full Moon,
and in that same purchase you order any single disc
Blu razor DVDs, you can get all of those for
fifty percent off, which is a pretty smoking deal for
a lot of deal that are already pretty low priced.
So check it out if you want. It is worth
(01:36:19):
looking at some of these movies, Charles Band doing what
Charles Band does, Yeah, back to back to the Future,
though this is that way. It is because Out of
Time is viewed here. They also have all kinds of
great stuff, So let's get into this. October fourteenth, in
(01:36:39):
the US there is an Amazon exclusive four K steel
book of all three films coming. These are going to
be all the same discs that are in the standalone
steel books that we just talked about. It's got the
new Brandy feature disc and everything, but then all of
the fancy stuff here that you see. We've got two
(01:37:02):
bonus discs, a flex capacitor steal book, exclusive Gibson Mini
guitar replica, an Out of Time metal license plate, Back
to the Future, a visual history booklet, lenticular photo of
Marty David Linda. We've got replicas from the Universal Archives,
numbered certificate of authenticity, and a bunch of the other
paper extras that we just talked about on the UK.
Stuff that is so so much.
Speaker 3 (01:37:24):
Yeah, normally like art cards and all that does nothing
for me. But I just picked a lenticular card like
as you like earn it, you'll see his brother and s.
Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
It's a disappearing.
Speaker 3 (01:37:40):
That's kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
It's a really really fun release.
Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:37:46):
That being said, I just said that the other three
were fifty pounds each. This is up for pre order
right now for one hundred and fifty dollars. That's a
lot of money for three films. But again, if this
is your favorite trilogy, which for a lot of people
it is your favorite, really ever, yeah, this is This
looks to be a pretty definitive release of the movies.
(01:38:07):
I don't need to upgrade. I kind of wish I
did because that last set sucks. Yeah, this looks great.
Speaker 3 (01:38:17):
I'm good with these. It's like I dropped also one
hundred when this first came out. I'm good. Yeah, I'm good.
And then another one hundred and fifty in there.
Speaker 2 (01:38:28):
Also, there is this standard edition of all three back
to the features with the new four K set and
all that with mostly original artwork. They are altered ever
so slightly. The big thing here is there's no paper extras.
It's just the discs. You do get that exclusive extras
disc that we just talked about. Now, this is available
for pre order for fifty bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:38:49):
Now here's the thing. After the recent re release of Jaws
on four K, for and the only difference was that
extra disc to use. See like Ecock putting out this
extra on their channel.
Speaker 2 (01:39:06):
Probably not all of them, considering their I mean they
could probably do like the forty years later reflecting game thing.
Speaker 3 (01:39:13):
Yeah that's what I'm thinking of.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
But probably I mean it's a full disc where the
stuff probably not everything.
Speaker 3 (01:39:19):
Yeah, yeah, but it's cool.
Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
This is a This is a good way to supplement
if you've already got one of the other things and
you're like, hey, I just want something to house the
four k's easily, or you don't have it and you
just want a cheap entry to the series. This is
forty five fifty bucks. That's a great price for one
of the best trilogies of all. Definitely all right, well
go USA. On October twenty eighth, are putting out a
(01:39:42):
four K Blue Rain DVD here in the US of
Samurai Fury from twenty twenty five. I love that somebody commented,
Samurai Fury aren't samurais like, by definition supposed to not
have Fury, And yes, that is true. This if you
watch the trailer, this actually looks really great. Very curious
to check this out. I just saw my buddy check
(01:40:08):
in Alex Kreeger. It's Alex's birthday. Everybody tell Elex, happy birthday,
Happy birthday, the August baby. Celebrate too many August babies?
Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
You all suck.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Yeah, that's all too many. That's why it's an expensive month.
October twentieth, we're getting a four K blue Raine DVD
over in the UK from Altitude Film of Project Genesis
from twenty twenty four. Project Genesis. This is a weird
looking trailer. This looks like one of the so bad,
(01:40:40):
it's surprisingly interesting movies. There's dinosaurs and actual feathered dinosaurs
in this movie. So very curious to see what other
like sort of scientific leaning into's that they went into
for this. I probably wouldn't buy the disc. I would
love to stream this and fall asleep watching it.
Speaker 4 (01:41:00):
Almost like a Kaiju of sort.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
There is a Kaiju in the film. I didn't want
to spoil that, but yes there is.
Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
You just did check it out. Check it out.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
Over in the UK. They are also getting some Criterion
releases that we announced recently. They're getting Nightmare Ally four
K on November three, House Party four K on November seventeenth.
How excited are you about that?
Speaker 3 (01:41:24):
KB? I'm excited, very excited, and not to correct your
guests from last week, it is not a a thing
to erase ahead. It was a haircut very popular in
a time in the urban communities called a gumby. So
kid is wearing a gumby haircut. But eras Ahead, it's
(01:41:45):
fine too. I'm just a Lynch fiend. I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
November twenty fourth, they are getting Louis Banuel's l on
four K, and then on November twenty fourth they're also
getting Hell's Angels on four K. My current pick for
one of the best artworks from Criteria over the last
five years, because it is beautiful.
Speaker 3 (01:42:07):
This and the Aviator would be a good double feature
because you get to see how it drove him crazy
trying to get this movie made.
Speaker 2 (01:42:16):
After you watch a movie that's true, Yeah, I need
to do that for sure. Going to the next one,
never mind, there's not a next one. Let's talk about
what's coming out next week instead. Next week Lost in
Space four K from Arrow the Two, Jake's four K
from Keena Lover Salvador four K from Shout the Superman
(01:42:39):
one through four to five film collection. Because Warner can't
count Steelbook Library set coming back out Undisputed four K.
I need to pre order this still.
Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
Dan, Yeah, that was a pleasant surprise because I never
thought that would come out on any higher format, so
I was surprised to see them.
Speaker 2 (01:42:59):
We need a a like Wesley Snipes from eighty nine
to two thousand and revival right now.
Speaker 3 (01:43:05):
Thank you, we do. We need like all those films
just upgrade at four.
Speaker 2 (01:43:11):
K please, So any of them got really terrible releases
because everybody's like, oh, nobody cares about Wesley Snipes for
these twelve years. Let's just forget Yeah, terrible, Uh, Lords
of Discipline four K from Keno, Huckleberry Finn from Keno,
Smoke and Blue in the Face and then Smoke and
then Blue in the Face all from Keno coming out
(01:43:32):
next week. The Warner Archive sets of the fifty Sci
Fi Collection, Greta Garbo Collection, Errol Flynn Collection, all coming
out next week. And that is it as we lean
into a really busy period. Next week is like the
last semi slow week before it erupts fir September in October.
Speaker 4 (01:43:50):
October, it's gonna be crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
And they're still announced, like, not only are we still
getting vinegar syndrome stuff, announced in October, but like Imprint,
still has an other October release to announce, probably tonight
during the show. It's it's stupid what still has yet
to be announced for October.
Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
I'm not gonna make it. I'm not gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
Well, speaking of not making it, we're gonna try to
breeze through our conversation tonight because we've got a Vinegar
Syndrome sale that is starting in forty five minutes. No
new announcements tonight for Vinegar Syndrome, but there's gonna be
a lot of out of print stuff, and KB and
I are tired, and we're going to try to go
to bed as early as possible, So we're gonna go
(01:44:34):
through our conversation and then highlight some Vinigar Syndrome stuff.
If I'm still awake, KB is probably gonna go to
bed ball hanging out with you for a little while.
Our conversation tonight is a top five rankings of direct
to video or direct to streaming films that didn't get
the actrical releases that probably should have and deserve some
(01:44:56):
sort of cachet. And that was a long title to
put in the YouTube title, So that's not all there. However,
this is what we're covering tonight because man, I love
MESAM direct to video and streaming titles. Yeah, what about you?
Speaker 3 (01:45:10):
I do too? And I see this more as more
cinematic love because even within some of the ones I'm
going to talk about, there was a limited release and
this was all based off of like I said last Friday,
went to Sea High Soloist, an A twenty four film.
So here it is. You just had all these A
(01:45:31):
twenty four films before editing and all this stuff, and
they get proper releases and marketing and all that stuff.
F one is another example like that, and then all
of a sudden, Spike Lee, Denzel Washington, two well known names.
You could literally say Spike in Denzel five films. Oh okay,
(01:45:57):
but it wasn't a race ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:46:00):
It was not a race ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
I don't even remember the eraserhead thing. I don't even
remember me saying that. So no, it was your guest,
Oh was it god name Rachel Rachel?
Speaker 3 (01:46:10):
Yeah, yes, it was your guest. Yes, it was a
high top fad, thank you, thank you. Anyway, So we
had a movie come out based on a Caros album,
Obe based on a famous novel and very limited release,
very limited marketing, just because it's going to be on
(01:46:32):
Apple TV Plus in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:46:34):
Well, and you forgot two of the biggest things directed
by one of the most important directors from the last
forty years, starring one of the biggest movie stars of
all time, and it's still like not only a limited release,
like a super limited release. It didn't play fine, It
didn't play I don't think any of the major chains.
It was mostly like the art house cinemas. And then
(01:46:55):
in two weeks it'll quietly drop on Apple Plus for
twelve people to see that watched.
Speaker 3 (01:47:00):
Yeah, so my choices are going to be along those lines.
And I think i'll mention like two two honorable mentions
before I get to my top one hit me all right,
so number five and I actually have it. This one
is it was released in the cinemas for about a
(01:47:24):
week nineteen theaters. I believe it was that I looked up,
and then it was released a little bit more to
fifteen hundred based on popularity. But I bet you the
majority of people didn't see this in the movies, but
they saw it on streaming. And we are talking about
snow Piercer so Dong June Hoe, Chris Pine. I remember
(01:47:50):
watching certain scenes and saying, this play is almost like
a video game. Excellent cast. I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:47:58):
So many other people in there.
Speaker 3 (01:48:00):
You have Tilla Swinton excellent, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, and
then you have Ed Harris kind of like in a
Final Boss kind of mode. But if you don't know
the story, dystopian times, everything's frozen over survival taking place
in the train, and you instantly have a cast system,
(01:48:23):
so people from the back are trying to get to
the front.
Speaker 4 (01:48:27):
So it's great.
Speaker 3 (01:48:29):
And I was happy to pick up this Amazon exclusive
just to get the four K. But I've had it
on two formats so far, so I love it. I
revisit it quite often, and it's a good one. I
love this movie. I've introduced people to this movie many
times because they're like, is that Captain America. I was like, yes,
(01:48:51):
yes it is, Bully.
Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
I have to be honest, I still have yet to watch.
No peer, sir, I am saving it on purpose. I'm
supposed to watch it. I think it's next month. I
have to check the schedule. I'm watching.
Speaker 3 (01:49:07):
Have another show for you if you don't have it,
I've got that four K.
Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
I bought it knowing that I was gonna have to
watch it for this, so I've got it ready to go,
just waiting for a moment for another show, and so
I will be watching it soon and can't wait because
I love Bong Jingo. I think he is genuinely one
of the more interesting is probably the best way to
say it, filmmakers of the current time. I don't necessarily
(01:49:31):
think he's the best. I still think there's a handful
that are just remarkable, but this is a filmography that
has literally.
Speaker 3 (01:49:40):
Some of the best movies from the last twenty five years. Yeah,
so dynamic filmmaker. And of course a lot of people
have put Parasite in the top twenty five of the
last twenty five years, including me.
Speaker 2 (01:49:53):
And what's funny is Parasite as great at as it is.
I still think it's my third favorite from him, and
he's like one of the few directors that you could say,
x any just pick any random movie from his filmography
is my favorite. And there's genuinely an argument to make
for that, And most people would be like, Okay, I
get that, Yeah, it's valid about you my number five,
(01:50:16):
and I'm going to get out one piece of recency
bias because I love this movie. It's way too recent.
But also I love this filmmaker and I'm embarrassed that
he his last two films have been stuck on Netflix only.
And that is Jeremy Solonier's Rebel Ridge. Rebl Ridge came
out last year on Netflix to universal acclaim, not just
(01:50:41):
like ooh, the Netflix crowd likes it, critically acclaimed viewers
that watched it. Everybody watched it and loved it. And
it is a tense movie through and through. And the
sad thing is Rebel Ridge is a movie that it
It starts twenty five seconds into the film and doesn't
let up until twenty five seconds into the credits, and
(01:51:04):
that sort of movie is electric. In a movie theater,
this would have been something that you walk out of
the theater buzzing. I still cannot get over how much
I loved pretty much all of the performances in this
And if that is something that you just say about
a lot of these films, yes, I get it. That's
not something that is a universal praise, but it's really
(01:51:28):
easy to go to form any of these That being said,
if you've not seen Rebel Ridge, what you need to
know is that the main actor, Aaron Pierre, lives in
this character so much that every single facial reaction, every
single emotional response, every single methodical movement makes you feel
like he was made to play this character. He's absolutely
(01:51:50):
incredible in it. We've got Don Johnson being menacing yet
also like a complete dolt at the same time, which
really were works a couple other like character actors that
you recognize. We got Roy from the Office being really
weird in this movie. But that being said, rebel Ridge
(01:52:12):
fantastic story, one that if it played in the theater,
I feel like it's one that they would have not
necessarily been like a limited release, but it would have
opened to like five thousand screens in the first week,
and then the buzz alone would have probably got that
like a triple viewing of that on the next week,
and it probably would have grown even better because rebel
Ridge is remarkable. It's absolutely yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:52:35):
I remember you telling me about that and I was like, oh,
I'll put it on the watch list, and I still
haven't seen it, But now that you're bringing it up again,
that means I just got to watch it. Because I
did that last week after nine years of people telling
me you should watch this movie, I finally watched Singh
Street Nice and I'm glad I didn't make it to
(01:52:59):
the ten year aniver. I'm gonna say I still haven't
seen this, but pleasant, Pleasant Surprise. I really enjoyed that
movie so good. I'm gonna take your advice and watch it.
And yeah, Don Johnson has been getting some scuzzy roles
lately and doing it well, which is kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:53:16):
It's like he was born to play those roles and
they're all the same.
Speaker 3 (01:53:19):
Yeah. Yeah, racist, far far removed from the Crockett days.
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
Yeah, kind of scuzzy da too. But all right, sir,
number four.
Speaker 3 (01:53:30):
I'm pulling an audible and I'm moving my number three
up to my number four. This was a movie that
when I heard it's a sequel, and when I heard
that they were bringing it out it was going to
be on Netflix instead of movie theaters, I was kind
(01:53:51):
of like, really because the Thanksgiving or two before I
saw it in the theaters and a lot of other
people did. And I'm talking, I don't have physical media
to show you because there isn't any glass Onion, a
Knives Out sequel or a Knives Out story. Whatever they
call it mystery, I think it is. It's just relating
(01:54:12):
its knives out, but once again, excellent cast. It's not
going to hold a candle to the first one. It cannot,
but it was enough to keep you interested. It's enough
to kind of give you that continuation, almost like an
actha Christy for the modern times, jump from one story
(01:54:32):
to another mystery to another different cast. And that's the
way that Ryan Johnson is doing these things. I don't
know if he's lining up for another one, but my
friend is currently doing a challenge about movies with just
one sequel, and this would definitely be one of those
that I would put in there as a consideration because
(01:54:55):
it gives you kind of like the same kind of feel,
and of course we have the Daniel Craig character returning,
but it gives you a very similar feel to the
first one. But the first one is kind of like
way above. But definitely they already shot the third one great,
so I better get that in before it's yeah, good good,
(01:55:19):
hopefully in cinemas because I thought it then the last
night of a limited run. I think they put it
off for a week or two, and I thought I
could just walk into the theater, you know, grab two
tickets on the app as I'm getting there, and we
have to sit in the second row because the place
was well on the last night of a limited release
(01:55:40):
that definitely needed more cinematic love. Yikes.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Yeah, good movie. I agree with everything. Obviously not the first.
It's it's not going to be the first, because that
first movie was lightning in a bottle.
Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:55:55):
That being said, it's it's great. It's very different. Love
the chaotic ending that they went for with this one.
Love the our our main character at the end, just
being this wide eyed, completely taken aback character who is
so on it for rest of the movie. Edward Norton
(01:56:18):
was great in this movie.
Speaker 4 (01:56:19):
Yeah, I was just thinking of it. Ed Norton, it
was so great in that.
Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
Yeah, this is a good one. I'm stoked to see
what the third one is. I think it's hilarious that
Daniel Craig went from bond to calm, subdued random mystery man. Yeah,
in tychy Fried Chicken accent. This Lindsey Grandmother. So my
(01:56:45):
number four, my number four is the only other one
that's sort of like really focused on recency bias. So
I'm gonna throw this out here because I was going
through my list and I had I had three fighting
for this spot, and I chose this one because I've
talked about the other two in the last year on
the show, and I've talked about this one once when
I watched it on this but not since then, and
(01:57:07):
I really think we've kind of forgotten how great Fresh was.
Fresh is a straight to Hulu essentially cannibal film that
is marketed as a romantic comedy that is a romantic
comedy for the first half hour, and then they get
a tonal shift that turns into the most like random,
(01:57:33):
borderline dark. I don't want to call it like home invasion,
but it's like this isolation thriller where you're out in
the middle of nowhere, so it I mean, really, that's
the thing for me, is it combines the strangers with
like the super dark relationship movies and everything about this.
Oh what the heck? Eric was saying something about Fresh
(01:57:54):
just a second ago, I led up on the list,
he says, I douna led up on the list on
my mind is Fresh? That's incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:58:03):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (01:58:06):
Yeah, but I'll call syndrome in there as well.
Speaker 2 (01:58:09):
Oh yeah, especially in the beginning fashion. Stan is ruthless
in this movie. It is absolutely one that if you've
not seen Sebastian Stan in anything but Marvel movies, you're
not gonna be ready for this. He is obviously with
the movies that he's done over the last year, you've
been able to see that he's an incredible, very well
(01:58:32):
rounded actor. I mean, to play Trump and then this
incredible turn that he did in Fall with that h
FO better Man is amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:58:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:58:45):
Anyways, Sebastian Stan is somebody that could gush over for
for so much. But this movie is just I don't know.
It was like, oh, I said, better Man, it's a
different man. That's the title. Different Man, better Man is
the Monkey movie.
Speaker 4 (01:58:58):
Yes, different different movie from last year.
Speaker 2 (01:59:01):
So the only thing that I would say about Fresh
is I feel like it had lost its steam for
about the last five minutes of it. I really wanted
a different tonal ending, and it's not necessarily even a
bad ending. I just for some reason wanted something just
elevated slightly. I really enjoy everything about this movie, underrated,
(01:59:22):
under scene. I feel like it dropped on Hulu before
Hulu kind of became a bigger streaming service. Yeah it
got forgotten. Yeah, give us a release of Fresh please.
Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
Yeah, and funny you say fresh and Dell's in there
and not to be confused with the Fresh that he
made you watch True Fresh with the Winter Sold and
Freshwood Nick Furia are both awesome. Yes, yes, it is good.
Call good call I to you. All right. This is
(01:59:53):
where I changed, and I'll be right back because I'm
just gonna go and pull it off my shelf because
this one.
Speaker 4 (02:00:00):
I do have a copy of.
Speaker 2 (02:00:02):
Shrouded and Mystery.
Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
This was a movie that I did not watch on
Netflix all these years, and then it disappeared, and then
it got a physical release and I still didn't get in.
And then people started putting on their years best lists,
and I think you were one of those people. And
I said, I'm gonna blind by this and watch this.
And when I watched it, I watch it twice in
one night because it also had a black and white feature.
(02:00:27):
I am talking about. Hush, this is so good.
Speaker 4 (02:00:29):
Hell, yeah, this is so good.
Speaker 3 (02:00:32):
I love this movie. In flantagain, we trust once again.
I have a good night, brother.
Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:00:40):
This Home Invasion is my favorite subgenre of horror movies.
So this was right up my alley, and gosh, that's
that's all I got to say about this, because it
especially the black and white version. I watched the color
one in the Bay SMI and then I went upstairs
(02:01:01):
and I told my wife about it while holding this
in my hand, and I said, I want you to
see it, and she's like, okay. I was like, no,
I mean, like, right now, there's a black and white
version on here, and I'm just gonna throw it in
the player here in the bedroom and we're gonna watch
it right now. And she said okay. She could have
(02:01:22):
been like just getting ready for better or whatever. I
don't know, but I threw it in and we watched
a shush version, which plays totally different, not just because
of the color aspect, but also the way it sounds,
with the score being almost muted itself and everything. So
it's almost like two different approaches to movies. And I
(02:01:44):
think the last time I felt about like black and
white was probably Logan Fury Road, but definitely no Logan. Definitely.
I was gonna also say Paris, but just how it
just shifts the mood of the movie and everything. So yeah,
(02:02:07):
this definitely one of my favorite found on Netflix or
wherever it was. I didn't even find it. I just
know it as a physical release. But apparently it originated
there are ten years ago and people loved it then,
so that's it's true. Definitely.
Speaker 2 (02:02:24):
So this one I I did find on Netflix because
I was going down a Flanning and rabbit hole, and
this is the thing that made me fall in love
with Flann again. I'd seen I think one game prior
to this. I can't remember if it was the it
wasn't Gerald's game, it was it was long before that
(02:02:44):
because it was right after Hush came out. It was
the Leg two or whatever. I think, maybe it's good,
it's it's Flann again. It's very good, but it's not.
It's not what he's done since then. And so I
watched Wigi two and I was like, oh, yeah, like
he's a competent filmmaker. This is good. Oh he also
directed this and it's on Netflix.
Speaker 3 (02:03:04):
Put it on it.
Speaker 2 (02:03:05):
Oh shit, Like this is great. And then it only
grew from there and he kept doing things and so
like checking out Doctor Sleep as it came out and
being all hyped for it, and checking out all of
these mini series, Hill House, Midnight Mass everything love it. Yeah, Oculus,
that's the one I'm thinking of, not Wigi two. Thanks Carlin.
Speaker 4 (02:03:26):
Yeah, that's how I said.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
Yeah, it's it's it's a great movie. If you still
haven't seen Hush, please check it out.
Speaker 3 (02:03:33):
It's yeah. And you know, physical media collectors. I am
not a shell for screen factory in any way, but
this is a great great What is it three for
this set?
Speaker 2 (02:03:44):
I think it's four yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
Yeah, but definitely great. Both of them on four K,
both of them on Blu, ray Tom and Terry Picture
and Picture commentaries. Please do more picture and picture commentaries
because I think that's great.
Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
Also, I did one of those recently. By the way,
I'm doing my best to get it's not there.
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
No, it's not easy from what I hear, but yeah,
I I also own Oculus.
Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
I enjoyed that as well, so shout out.
Speaker 2 (02:04:12):
Okay, So my number three is gonna sound like it's
a recency bias pic and I'm really not trying to
pick things in reverse order, but that's kind of what
it's turning into. Except for I'm gonna throw you off
at the end here. All of my stuff is past
two thousand. I'm sorry. I wanted to go back into
like nineties DTV stuff. But I just want to talked
about Tremors two for forty five minutes, and that's not fun,
(02:04:34):
I know.
Speaker 3 (02:04:34):
With the Lion King one and a half, So yeah,
I understand what that was. Great. That was a great
follow up, very good, better than Zimba's Pride.
Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
All Right, We're gonna do an episode ranking all of
the Lion King films, including all the terrible live action ones. Okay,
so my number three is kind of forgotten at this point,
and I know that people steeped in horror have not
forgot about this, but this, this channel is certainly not
all about horror like most of the other physical media channels,
so I don't ever get a chance to talk about this.
(02:05:09):
And I want to talk about how we have, especially
in the last year and a half, gotten a lot
of love from Second Site, specifically for the first movie
for this, but my pick is twenty seventeen's Creep two.
Speaker 3 (02:05:23):
Sorry, I'm gonna put that on there.
Speaker 2 (02:05:25):
Yeah, so Creep and Creep to both qualify for this.
But Creep over the years has gotten a lot of love.
It is something that has been appreciated. It's been like
we've got to follow up TV series on Shutter and Everything. Sure,
Creep two deserves more than a shitty DVD that is
only like it was only available on Amazon for a
couple of years. You can't even get it anymore.
Speaker 3 (02:05:44):
I don't think.
Speaker 2 (02:05:47):
Creep two should not be a good movie, and yet
it is great. Mark Duplas being one of the people
who is pioneered mumblecore, who is pioneered unsettling conversations horror
is somebody that is a remarkable filmmaker who can do
so much with so little, and with a story set
(02:06:08):
in the mountains in California where I grew up visiting.
Because I lived in the foothills of California and was
raised in the desert in California, I've been to all
of these places I like, especially in the outdoor scenes
of Creep and Creep two, I feel like I've walked
through those little valleys that they were in. It's crazy,
but Creep two, as a follow up to what was
(02:06:30):
a shocking hit in Creep, should never have been as
successful as it was. Mark Duplas brings this weird, like
unsettling aura combined with just a fun personality to something
that you know, like if you spend eight minutes with him,
you're worried for your life, which is not easy to do.
(02:06:52):
And somehow pulling that off from the first film and
making it just as likable and hateable in the second film,
it works so much. I feel like we have forgotten
that Creep to exists and I am dying to get
a deluxe edition announced by Second Site to match the
first one. Give us the second film on Blu Ray please,
(02:07:15):
because it absolutely needs the love. That's it. I'm off
my soapbox.
Speaker 3 (02:07:19):
No, I'm right up there with you, and it doesn't
have to be a big, chunky boxet, but it deserves
a similar release of some sort from Second Site.
Speaker 4 (02:07:29):
They did such a good job with.
Speaker 3 (02:07:31):
The first one. Sutter has the Creep tapes. That's not
going anywhere. But yeah, I'm the same way, Eric, I
think that they need to do based on the follow
up of releasing Creep, they definitely need to do Creep too,
because it's it's equal.
Speaker 4 (02:07:49):
It's equal entertainment, for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:07:53):
It's great. Check it out if you haven't seen it.
It's so good, so much.
Speaker 4 (02:07:56):
Better than it should be if you could find it.
Speaker 2 (02:07:59):
We've got like ten minutes to go through this, sir,
so you're number two.
Speaker 3 (02:08:04):
Two. I'll just put it up really quick. One of
the best things I seen on Netflix in the last
five years. One of the best four k's, one of
the best sound designs. Woof hard look at War from
being fascinated with it too, just being disillusioned by it all.
(02:08:24):
Quint on the Western Front, the modern day version. If
you haven't seen it, check it out. It's on Netflix.
And if you haven't bought it, there's I don't know
how many different releases now sore.
Speaker 2 (02:08:35):
Yeah, I think there's three.
Speaker 3 (02:08:37):
Yeah. I like this one, even though it's even fit
in with the rest of everything on my shelf. It's
a little bit taller, but that's okay. Yeah, I just
I put it on and I don't need to sit
down and watch it. But I love to listen to it.
I love to hear that that score just like resonating
and haunting the speakers.
Speaker 2 (02:08:59):
It's so beautiful for those that aren't aware. I won't
talk too much on the film itself, because it being
a fairly big Oscar movie, has been talked about a
lot in the last couple of years, so I will say,
Edward Berger, I don't think this gets connected for a
lot of people. The guy that directed All Quite on
the Western Front also did Conclave, which was a surprise
hit from last year and then a big deal because
I am very much looking forward to it. He has
(02:09:21):
a film coming out this year called Ballad of a
Small Player starring Colin Farrell, and I cannot wait to
see it.
Speaker 3 (02:09:27):
That's award season bait right there, for sure. Definitely going
to be award season bait. Let's move forward. What's your
number two?
Speaker 2 (02:09:35):
Moving forward? My number two? This one is gonna be
funny because this is a massive movie. I really enjoyed
this movie, and I've actually calmed down about how much
I like it, although I still will say it is
quite possibly the best anthology horror movie ever made. I
have to go with Trick or Treat for those that
aren't aware. Trick or Treat played theatrically in like four
(02:09:57):
festivals and two free screenings, and that's it. Mike Dolerty
released this on vod and two weeks later it released
on Netflix, and somehow it being one of the first
major titles on Netflix that caught people's eye. Is the
reason that you can go to Spirit Halloween and by
nine hundred and seventeen things with Sam's face on it.
(02:10:17):
This movie is one of the best anthology horror films
because of the reason it weaves all the stories together.
It's got incredible editing, it's got great sound design for
eight I think this was or two thousand and nine, whatever,
Incredible acting, great effects, really great iconography. I mean literally,
Sam is everywhere knowing me. It's probably behind me somewhere
(02:10:38):
because my wife loves it. All was that number one, Oh,
go ahead, I'll be quiet for a bit to go ahead.
Speaker 3 (02:10:48):
No, no, no, no, You're right on point. And when I
first saw this, I was surprised to see some of
the people that showed up in it. This is just
this is the kind of anthologrey movies that I like,
I hate, like those Happy Valentine's Day New Year's Eve
ones with all the famous people and it's just like, oh,
(02:11:10):
it's so cheesy. If I don't know, it's the Barnes
and Noble erowsales still going on. This is definitely a
great one to pick up, and once again I feel
like I'm one of the few people that at least
I know that got a chance to see it in
the theater. After all of this been on Blu Ray,
(02:11:31):
coming out on four K. It was a limited release
after all these years of streaming for a week and
I went to see it on a Wednesday afternoon. Four
people in the theater. Three of us had seen it before,
the lady behind me had not, and we were laughing
at certain parts and she was not. And then I
(02:11:51):
had a single friend conversation at the end. I was like,
what do you think? Was it good? I think the
biggest surprise was Anna Paquin showing up in the the
first time I saw it. So if you love Sam,
if you like you said Spirit Halloween and you go there,
definitely you need to have that in your life.
Speaker 2 (02:12:11):
For those that are active in the Disconnected discord, first off,
thank you super grateful for all the support. I love
you as a amazing community because I would not be
doing this if it warn't for you. Literally. But today
you literally got a clue about the film that I've
not been able to stop talking about since I put
this list together yesterday. And that is moving back up
(02:12:33):
in time a little bit. Twenty twenty's remarkable romantic comedy
Palm Springs is I think the biggest travesty to not
be on physical media in a proper release, but more
importantly to not get a theatrical release. For those that
haven't seen Palm Springs, this is a movie starring Adam Sandberg.
(02:12:53):
Adam Sandberg is not his name. It is Andy Samberg.
That's name in the male half of this romantic comedy
that was dropped during COVID and unfortunately did not do
well because of that. But he stars alongside Christian Malatti,
who's now huge because of all of the penguin stuff. JK.
(02:13:17):
Simmons is in this, Peter Gallagher is in this. There's
a lot of faces that pop up in a couple scenes.
Nothing crazy. But the big thing is this is a
Groundhog Day style comedy. This is somebody that is going
to a wedding and something happens and they have to
keep reliving this day and they need to find a
way to escape. But this movie is beloved by everybody
(02:13:39):
who's seen it. It is charming, it is actually romantic,
it is actually funny, And the biggest thing is the
way that they approached the groundhog Day aspect of it
is surprisingly rooted in proper sci fi, and that is
very rare in a trope that since Palm Springs has
come out, has become very overdone. Palm Springs is genuinely
(02:14:02):
one of the best modern love stories I think that
have ever come out. And what's funny is it doesn't
even feel like a love story for most of it.
It is beautifully shot. That is the other thing here.
I really wanted to highlight that the cinematography really captures
the vistas of the desert in a way that modern
films don't usually do a great job of capturing. And
(02:14:25):
Vegas for somebody that grew up two hours away from
Vegas went to Vegas quite a few times. There is
a lot of stuff that if you are never in
the desert is beautiful. If you live in the desert,
you hate it. And somehow, being gone by the time
that I watched this for seven years, seeing the way
that they captured the scenery in this made me. It
(02:14:47):
made me like really dive back into the days where
I used to go hunting in silver mines in the
mountains in California. And it's just a starkly colorful movie,
which is really weird. A very brown set scenery. Samberg
here is brilliant. This is basically a movie made by
the Lonely Island people, and they did everything they could
(02:15:09):
to make this a smash hit. I believe it played
at sun Dance and then this is one of those
things where they went and like they bid a dollar
and they were able to buy their own movie and
distribute it themselves. Something like that. But Pop Springs genuinely
a lost and forgotten gem that was dropped on Hulu
even earlier than Fresh, which means hardly nobody saw it
(02:15:30):
and it is still languishing no physical media. I of
course have had a bootleg for like four years because
it's one of my favorite movies of all time. And
if you still haven't seen it, get a Huluf free trial.
Watch this. Just find a way to ingest it. It
is worth your time, worth your energy. Andy Samberg and
Malatti are beautiful in this.
Speaker 3 (02:15:52):
Okay, So those two movies, I promise before I start
my horror film franchise Marathon, I will watch those two
films because I still haven't seen it, and I keep
saying that, oh, well I didn't have Hulu. Well I
have Hulu now, and oh it's probably going to come
out soon on the physical It hasn't, so I definitely
(02:16:14):
want to check it out. I know we need to
switch gears, but can I give like two audible mentions
and then one that really surprised me to find out.
Speaker 2 (02:16:25):
Take your time. We went through that faster than expected,
so you can have like five minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:16:29):
Okay, talking about movies that came out during COVID Soul
a very underestimated Pixar Disney movie that deserves a lot
more love. I was happy to see that recently they
put both that and Big Red in theaters full limited
time because it needed a theatrical release back then. But
(02:16:52):
great story. I'm a big quest love and he was
associated with the film as well. It really tells a
story of lost dreams and a lot of people who
were in different stages of adulthood definitely kind of suffer
with that, especially if you stay associated with what you
(02:17:13):
wanted to be, like if you wanted to be a
movie star and you stay associated by, you know, working
at Deer Academy Museum or something like that. So you
caught that too hot stand, Oh that was funny. The
one that I shifted out of fourth place to honorable
(02:17:34):
mention to make room for Hush.
Speaker 4 (02:17:36):
It was Black Dynamite.
Speaker 3 (02:17:38):
Oh, oh, great, is freaking black dynamite. Yeah, yeah, I
as soon as I start of like Ryan said five,
and I was like, I got ten already.
Speaker 2 (02:17:54):
And it would have been ten. If it wasn't a
vinegar Syndrome night, we probably would have.
Speaker 3 (02:17:57):
Done Yeah, yeah, we would have went for ten. But
the one that really surprised me and I had to
read the backstory for this, the Boondocks Saints.
Speaker 2 (02:18:09):
Yeah canceled because of Columbine.
Speaker 3 (02:18:11):
Yeah, it got pulled and it was only when it
was released on physical that everybody got a chance to
see it. And for steel book collectors, that may have
been the first DVD steel book, or at least the
first popular one.
Speaker 2 (02:18:29):
It was by far the most popular DVD steels.
Speaker 4 (02:18:32):
Oh yeah, yeah it was.
Speaker 3 (02:18:33):
It was an updated with rappers having a scoreface poster
in their house. It was update with that. So a
whole bunch of other ones Roma Marriage Story, Irishman, as
I mentioned, Lion King one and a Half, oakeda Another,
Bong June Ho, Power of the Dog. But those are
ones that really hit me the hardest, and each one
(02:18:55):
of them probably would have made a pretty dollar at
the box office given the chance. Both are less all
nine films.
Speaker 2 (02:19:03):
I do want to say you mentioned soul. I really
want to talk about one of the things that has
given me some of the most unbridled joy over the
last six months, and that is kind of falling in
love with the way that John Batiste views the world.
Is one of the most creative musicians that I've ever seen,
(02:19:24):
and watching him explode on like random social media channels.
I think it was today or yesterday I saw him
on some random somebody sent me the video of him
doing like music for a nineteen twenties ish silent cartoon
and somebody making the foldy sounds for it, sitting next
(02:19:46):
to him, and it was just the most like I
don't know, like true, It was not even that, like
he was full doing it like fulfill Everything about him
is just him living in the moment, feeling what needs
to happen and just letting it flow, which is insanity
that he is so good.
Speaker 3 (02:20:05):
Yeah. American Symphony, great documentary, also on Netflix if you
want to check that out and get more of an idea.
There's also an excellent sixty minutes Peace on Him where
he sits down and he's doing Beethoven and he turns
it into like a soulful gospel rendition. So yeah, yeah,
(02:20:26):
Soul the movie is so good.
Speaker 2 (02:20:30):
Soul is good. Yeah, all right, so very much changing
the tone from Soul and Boondock Saints. Oh my god,
what one. Don't watch that as a double feature.
Speaker 3 (02:20:45):
Don't even watch Boondocks Saints and the sequel together because this.
Speaker 2 (02:20:49):
Sequel is so weird, it's shot so off. Anyways, very syndrome. Yeah,
that that year. Specifically, tonight is the start of the
Vinegar Academy Labor Day sale. Now we don't necessarily know
what that means exactly, but let's zoom in and see
(02:21:10):
what we are seeing tonight. In just how many minutes here,
eight and a half minutes, we are going to see
the website open, and you will have ten to seventy
five percent off on a variety of products. One hundreds
of Vinegar Syndrome vis sub label and partner label out
of print titles dropping daily. There is gonna be a
(02:21:31):
Vinegar Syndrome MC the rewards program punch Card campaign to
earn fifteen hundred bonus points. New releases emerge dropping on
September first, which is early next week. There will be
three Vinegar Syndrome titles. A VSL, a VSA, a Cinematograph,
a destript picks, and a brand new sub label which
we know is a Pink film line, and then nineteen
(02:21:51):
new partner label releases. But we don't have to worry
about that until Monday, Yeah, Monday. So that being said,
the big thing tonight is there going to be a
whole bunch of things that were previously out of print
that they are we'll say, claiming to have found in
the warehouse. We don't know how many of them they're
going to be, but they are going to be very
(02:22:15):
very properly priced from what they're saying KB anything that
has been out of print from vinegar syndrome that you're
actually after tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:22:23):
The only thing I could think of is I love
the VSU titles, so I'm always gonna like lean toward that.
And I think the only one that is sold out
is the or out of print is the first one
correct on VS.
Speaker 2 (02:22:42):
You know show Girls is also sold out?
Speaker 4 (02:22:45):
Well I got better, righty?
Speaker 3 (02:22:47):
Well?
Speaker 2 (02:22:47):
Sorry, the disc is available the big hard metal or
box with the metallic class but not metallic magnetic. That's
the word. That one is out of print.
Speaker 3 (02:22:56):
You are tired.
Speaker 2 (02:22:58):
I'm I've been up since four forty five am, very late.
You got a question. Are the daily drops occurring at
midnight each day or will they be noon?
Speaker 3 (02:23:10):
They will be at noon every day. They will be
at noon. Now.
Speaker 2 (02:23:15):
One of the things that I've seen people talking about
is this VSMC I'm zooming in the wrong window. Let's
go over to this one VSMC punch card campaign to
get bonus points. So essentially you have to spend thirty
dollars every day and at the end of it you'll
get fifteen hundred bonus points. That's not a ton in
my opinion. You're spending thirty dollars every day to earn
(02:23:36):
fifteen dollars worth of points. That being said, it's nice
to have more points, nothing wrong with that. If you're
going to spend the money that anyways, then you'll do it.
But one thing, one thing to warn you about. The
thirty dollars has to be done at once. So you
can't buy a ten dollars title check out and then
buy a twenty dollars title and be good. You have
(02:23:56):
to do it in one transaction. So every day, one
transaction of at least thirty dollars, every single day, and
that will earn you fifteen hundred points at the.
Speaker 3 (02:24:06):
End of it. That's very cool.
Speaker 2 (02:24:10):
And by the way, fifteen hundred points exactly how much
you need to get a VSMC slipcover. The VSMC slipcovers
are the new version of their out of print slipcovers
that they're putting out there. It's now got the branded
gold foil on the side, branded with their VSMC logo
and all that stuff. And what they have said is
that all of them that they have printed before will
(02:24:30):
be available tonight. They will be available tonight, every single one.
So if you want, gosh, blood Hook is probably the
rarest of the regular slipcovers, and now they will have
that VSMC version tonight for fifteen hundred points. So if
you are after the points, get ready to spend thirty
(02:24:51):
dollars every single day. But I am not telling you
to do that. Only do that if you want to
and you are financially capable of doing it.
Speaker 3 (02:25:00):
And today's some economy, please be financially responsible.
Speaker 2 (02:25:07):
I would be extra excited for people if they had
some of the lenticular slipcovers they've done, because those have
been out of print for a long time, So you're
Jack Frost your rad or my favorite Demon Wind, Demon
Win Bad movie fun time though, love that movie. I
have a screen used finger literally from the film over
(02:25:28):
there on my shelves. Yeah, check it out. Those might
be good ones to look for. I'm very curious. I'll
still have out of print box sets, things like Forgotten
Jialli Volume one that has been out of print for
a long time and very pricey.
Speaker 4 (02:25:43):
Yeah, I know some people that still want that.
Speaker 2 (02:25:47):
Yes, quite a few people. Yeah, what are you all after?
In the comments, if you're getting one thing tonight and
it happens to be in stock, what are you going after? Now?
The big question with them labeling it the vinegar your
Academy Labor Day sale and the iconography that they've used
leading up to this, people are speculating they're gonna have
a lot of Vice Academy, the VSA one, two three
(02:26:09):
that they've had that's been out of print for years
at this point. And if they do that that has
been like I've seen that sell for over two hundred dollars.
That will be crazy if they have that, it's crazy.
Couch also likes Demon Win.
Speaker 3 (02:26:24):
That's nice of the avatar.
Speaker 2 (02:26:30):
Yes, is Vice Academy even worth it? I think most
people would say no. Carlon that being said, if it's
if it's literally retail price and it's like less than
forty dollars, it's probably worth it. I mean it's three films,
that's not bad. Ooh limited, red Rock I can't say
Red Rock West. I mean that is a tough title.
Speaker 3 (02:26:52):
Yeah, that's that's a good one. Great that went quickly.
Speaker 2 (02:26:57):
Yeah, uh yeah. I'm very curious to see what people
are going to jump on tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:27:05):
If anything. I mean, I think a lot of people
felt concluded is like, Okay, so we have the Black
Friday stuff that we're still waiting on, and will this
be another order that we're waiting on? This might this
most likely will come before everything else, right, we pre ordered.
Speaker 2 (02:27:26):
And that's you know, I know this is about to launch.
And I'm not trying to make this moment cynical or anything, but.
Speaker 3 (02:27:32):
How does everybody feel about all of these.
Speaker 2 (02:27:34):
Vinegar Syndrome sales? It used to be we have two
every year, and then they made a big deal about
launching a Valentine's Day sale for their adult titles, and
now since then, there's like six big sales every year,
and at that point it's hard to get excited because
it's literally every other month.
Speaker 3 (02:27:50):
Yeah. I normally stick to like the halfway and then
the ones at the end of the year, But the
rest of them, it's kind of like, I don't know,
you feel like you're kind of like filtering through to
find like one or two good things, and then everything
else is like eh, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:28:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:28:12):
So like if they have like a sale on like
ETR titles, that bring it down to like something ridiculous.
Is he talking about the bikes Academy titles?
Speaker 2 (02:28:25):
No, No, No, you're talking about the sales. I was
laughing because the ETR media stuff, if they if they
bring those down to like two fifty, I would still
some of them would still not recommend that you buy them.
Speaker 3 (02:28:34):
Yeah, I like that. The documentary ones like Final Nation
and all that stuff. Those are fun, but it's not
fun at a retail price. It's good when, yeah, the
same thing, it's better when you could catch it on
a good deal. So it's a matter of like just
(02:28:54):
going through and finding the ones that are like the price.
Speaker 2 (02:29:00):
Yeah, less than a minute away, Yes, sir, I'll be
refreshing starting in about ten seconds. Everybody just stop and
let me refresh. It'll go really slow. Normally it doesn't
open all that soon, but I think it was last November,
or maybe it was May. Even everybody in the chat
(02:29:20):
was like, it's open, it's open, it's open, and I
don't know what it is like. I don't even I'm
not even after anything. All of the out of print
stuff that i'd want I have, but I'm still kind
of excited. I like sales.
Speaker 3 (02:29:30):
Yeah, I'm thinking about it. I think the ones that
I like, I said, the ones that I want to
like VSU titles that probably won't be on any sale
before November, so I can really wait. Like I said
the other day, I'm trying to let me go and
serve on the money. Uh I say it.
Speaker 2 (02:29:54):
I'm gonna be like, ooh, they've got bios, I'll be
back and stuck. They've got bat Pussy? Are these just partner?
Speaker 3 (02:30:01):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:30:02):
No, Dirty Work is back. Cloak and Dagger Burning Paradise.
Recommend that one if you haven't seen it. Uh Man,
there's some good stuff here, Effects four K, good disc Forgotten,
Jolly Volume seven is back, Freeway and Freeway two her smell.
Speaker 3 (02:30:21):
Uh Man, there's some good, good films in here. I
was looking in Angel's.
Speaker 2 (02:30:30):
Uh, let's see Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and other
holiday hallucinations from AGFA Scarecrow in a Garden. The Cucumbers
is back. That one went real quick. Some call it
loving from Etiquette Pictures. That's fast. The keep is back.
That's a big one, Beast Master VSU. Uh if anybody
(02:30:57):
got Vice Academy or something, if it was there, tell me.
I bet that's one that they'll hold and release later.
Oh that's just the frequently asked questions started. All right,
So this is their homepage. Anything new here?
Speaker 3 (02:31:12):
Well, I see that dirty work one that was out
of print is back with the hairy cover.
Speaker 2 (02:31:20):
Yes, sir, your favorite, right, Yeah, a one.
Speaker 3 (02:31:25):
Being on my shelves.
Speaker 4 (02:31:27):
Her smell was probably one of the first ones that
I got.
Speaker 2 (02:31:31):
There is a brand new Vice Academy one through six
VSA available and they have shown it.
Speaker 3 (02:31:39):
Wow the key. A lot of people wanted that before
the other release came out. Thirty five bucks is a
good price.
Speaker 2 (02:31:51):
Oh, this is a big deal. So VSA had previously
released Vice Academy one through three, and it looks like
they've also got four through six, which was somehow I
believed to have been locked with Culture Shock releasing. But
now we know that they've got all six in a
box set and this is a big deal. That's pretty cool.
(02:32:15):
Good God, that's gonna be a fun release.
Speaker 3 (02:32:23):
Looking I slip covers a dead Heat. That's dead Heat
is good there, it's blood hook what else? You all
know some of these? But I do.
Speaker 2 (02:32:47):
Sandy Snatchers, Candy Snatchers, that's a great one.
Speaker 3 (02:32:52):
I like that one.
Speaker 2 (02:32:56):
Eric, You are correct. The Keep is not a great movie.
It's a great soundtrack, and it's a great idea for
a movie. It's just never what it could have been.
Speaker 3 (02:33:04):
It will hop and I like it was the next coming.
Speaker 2 (02:33:09):
Okay, So as far as discounts, what do we have
Big World.
Speaker 3 (02:33:14):
Pictures for seven fifty geez? That's cheap.
Speaker 2 (02:33:19):
Adjuster tracking from a VHS hit fest. That's a good one.
Speaker 4 (02:33:23):
M H.
Speaker 2 (02:33:25):
Johnny Ryan paperback book that's on sale for forty five dollars.
That's a sale price.
Speaker 3 (02:33:30):
Good God.
Speaker 2 (02:33:33):
Bloodsucking Freaks four K is on sale.
Speaker 3 (02:33:35):
Good movie.
Speaker 2 (02:33:35):
A lot of people hate that. Good movie. Go Fish.
The cinematograph is only fifteen to ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (02:33:44):
Wow. Daryl is down at thirty two fifty Slash Frankenstein's
forty still kind of high, but Cinema it was eighty right.
There you go Forgotten Jolly Volume one, twenty four bucks.
Speaker 2 (02:34:08):
That is just the standard edition. I'm assuming I'm opening
it at another tap. Yeah, no box on that one.
Oh did they I didn't check? Did they bring exist
Ends back yet? This is what I've been curious about,
because this has been not necessarily out of print. Okay,
it's still sold out. How is there no standard edition
(02:34:29):
for Existence?
Speaker 3 (02:34:30):
What is going on? That's so odd?
Speaker 2 (02:34:44):
Keep an eye out. That's a good one from Decanalog
Killer Condoms on sale for only twenty two forty nine. Nice.
Speaker 4 (02:34:52):
I just saw that.
Speaker 3 (02:34:54):
Great movie. That's really great movie, the level of the characters.
Speaker 2 (02:35:01):
Yes, Mark the Devil is another great one.
Speaker 4 (02:35:05):
Yes, that looks good. I watched that.
Speaker 2 (02:35:09):
No Resistance. Definitely recommend this one SLB from ninety four
from a Saturn's Core. It's because their flesh port cut
infected in.
Speaker 3 (02:35:28):
I don't know how much of a deal that is.
But the vinyl for the Sadness, Oh be three bucks?
Speaker 2 (02:35:36):
Nice starve aker is there? Terminal Island is only nineteen
ninety nine great movie, genuinely great.
Speaker 3 (02:35:46):
Movie, more tease than I expected.
Speaker 2 (02:35:53):
Candy Snatcher's Standard down to thirteen nineteen. Love that movie.
The hard Part begins. That's a good one from Canadian
International dant of thirteen ninety nine, and that one is
very overlooked.
Speaker 3 (02:36:08):
I would say, not bad, I mean good friends. I'm
already yeah, yeah, I feel like I'm already at the
list of all the discounted items.
Speaker 2 (02:36:21):
Dems like US four k from Cinematograph for seventeen ninety nine.
That seems cheap already. Lots of shirts are back. If
(02:36:43):
I did have.
Speaker 3 (02:36:44):
Caryl Moore, I would pick that up, but I don't.
It's not that not that real for me.
Speaker 2 (02:36:51):
I still love this Rainbow Apocalypse screenprint that they did.
I have this hanging up in my office and it's
behind me and all of my work calls.
Speaker 3 (02:37:00):
They don't mean yeah, uh, not bad.
Speaker 2 (02:37:04):
And then they've got you can look at all the
VSMC slip covers, which uh yeah, it looks like they've
gotten too much all of them.
Speaker 3 (02:37:12):
That's really cool. It kind of makes you want to
do that. So you said it's thirty bucks a day
for what three days?
Speaker 2 (02:37:21):
Thirty bucks every day for is it three or four.
Speaker 3 (02:37:25):
All the way?
Speaker 2 (02:37:25):
No, all the way through September second, so you've got
twenty nine, thirty thirty one one two five days.
Speaker 4 (02:37:32):
Oh wow.
Speaker 2 (02:37:34):
So basically it's like a ten percent discount overall.
Speaker 3 (02:37:36):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 4 (02:37:39):
I know a lot of people want that eight one
because they were upset when they didn't get to cover.
Speaker 2 (02:37:45):
Yeah, slip, love that the Christmas Evil Slip is available.
It's one of my favorite slips for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:37:56):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:37:56):
Over on mil you've seen don't forget stuff is stuff
is on sale as well. I can't show most of this,
I can look at it. The Tale of Tiffany Lust
the Male you've seen release is twenty one to forty nine.
(02:38:19):
That's a four pretty good tank.
Speaker 4 (02:38:21):
Go in Paris is down to thirty seven bucks.
Speaker 2 (02:38:30):
The hardcover Brigitte la Haye book is back over there
and it's for thirty one fifty all right. Back to
Vinegar Syndrome. Yeah, you're a little limited.
Speaker 3 (02:38:48):
It's CRUs.
Speaker 2 (02:38:51):
Vice Academy one through six. Huh how's everybody feel about that?
I think this is a very big deal. Actually, Vice
Academy one is a box that the people have wanted
for a long time. Is there I'm gonna go through
the small pictures in case there's any new deity.
Speaker 3 (02:39:10):
Fuck Man for those that don't know what is and
Vice Academy.
Speaker 2 (02:39:17):
So Vice Academy one through six, let's see this, says
from the debut. In the late eighties, Rick Sloans Vice
Academy Movies were a runaway hit for a full decade,
between regular airplay on late night cable TV and popularity
at the video store. The series relied upon broad and
camp comedy, a rotating stable of B movie starlets, and
inspired riffs on pop culture and hit movies of the day.
(02:39:40):
Alongside Sloan's regular casting crew, the series includes lead roles
by Linea Quigley, ginger linn Allen, Elizabeth Kaitan, and Raylan Salmon.
Finally nabbed from their original negatives by VSA, all six
Saucy entries have been booked in a weight indictment. Yeah,
this is this is really fun. This is a great
(02:40:00):
looking release.
Speaker 4 (02:40:04):
And it's in a full box set.
Speaker 2 (02:40:06):
It's a full one through six box set through VSA,
and they've got the hard like VHS style case that
they do on their VSA releases, and it's it's camped
to the max of like eighties and nineties big hair
crime capers. Yeah, lots of fun. Oh god, that.
Speaker 3 (02:40:30):
Looks really good at that screenshot. Yeah that.
Speaker 2 (02:40:39):
Wow, that looks quite good restored. For many people, this
is genuinely like a dream come true release, So I'm
stoked for people. Stan is asking, well, these items ship immediately.
They will ship at the end of this month or
(02:41:00):
end of September. Sorry, not August. Exciting exciting?
Speaker 3 (02:41:14):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:41:15):
Jack has only seen one through three, but they're charming.
Ryan says, is the coincidence that I'm only seeing their
sixty nine out of print releases for sale?
Speaker 3 (02:41:22):
Maybe?
Speaker 2 (02:41:24):
Yeah, Gleaming the Cube would do.
Speaker 3 (02:41:26):
So well for them if it showed up.
Speaker 2 (02:41:29):
Yeah, yes, Jeremy, you can get any VSMC slipcover, So
are you gonna get all of them? Danny got Vice Academy. Nice.
The transfers for Vice Academy four through six are terrible.
I'm very excited to them finally looking good, and four
and five looked way better than I expected there, because yeah,
(02:41:49):
four through six have always looked pretty bad. Shanghai Triad
for twenty one bucks, says Paddy Boy.
Speaker 3 (02:41:55):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (02:42:02):
Stan, if you don't pre order any of the September releases. Well,
I guess Vice Academy is probably a September release, So
if you just get one of the sale titles, it
might chip earlier in September, just it might not entirely.
Speaker 3 (02:42:18):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (02:42:20):
Yeah, don't forget out of print. Stuff will be dropping
every single day at noon, and so you've got stuff
that you can come back for every single day.
Speaker 3 (02:42:32):
Yeah, and considering going back to Vice Academy that the
original one with one to three was, and for a
penny more you could get all six right now and
it is in stock. If that's your cup of tea,
go for it.
Speaker 2 (02:42:52):
That's not bad.
Speaker 3 (02:42:53):
Have a good night.
Speaker 2 (02:42:53):
Colton Terry just picked Night Trained to Tear and then
got Mismagnificent out of print from Meliosine. Make me for
the blue upgrade before the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (02:43:01):
Ooh nice.
Speaker 5 (02:43:03):
Yeah, uh, let's see vs Umcamie is a hot mess
right now.
Speaker 2 (02:43:23):
The slipcover version of Beast Master is the one that
they have at the moment, and then Cloak and Dagger
was out of print. They've got even the deluxe box. Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:43:34):
Yeah, I saw that earlier when I saw Darryl Great
movie Munch instead of Virtuosity Bill too rich when I.
Speaker 2 (02:43:49):
Blood I have virtuosity. I've skipped a Congo, Golden Check,
and Mac and Me. I will definitely not be buying
Mac and Me. I may go after Golden Child and
Congo eventually.
Speaker 3 (02:44:06):
Yeah, if I get Golden Child, will be the standard,
not the full box set. Yeah, fifty bucks for that
is a lot. It's not the greatest Eddie Murphy movie.
And I I'm not a fan of the new slip
of show Girls.
Speaker 4 (02:44:23):
I much prefer the original.
Speaker 3 (02:44:25):
Oh really, I love this new slip and I hated
the original. Maybe I was a tie to like original
poster art and all that stuff. Yeah, trying to remember
what else?
Speaker 2 (02:44:42):
A scarecrow in the Garden of Cucumber sold out already again,
Yeah that was fast, Tyler. If I don't get Mac
and Me, Paul Redd will be sad. I mean he's
happy all the time. He deserves a moment of sadness.
Speaker 3 (02:44:56):
Yeah, tell me'll buy Halloween Sex.
Speaker 2 (02:45:00):
Yeah, I already owned like three copies of it.
Speaker 6 (02:45:02):
We're good, I'll drop Zone. That was the other one
I wanted to see if but that went on sale.
Drop Zone, it is not on sale.
Speaker 4 (02:45:22):
Those that are three that I'm waiting for.
Speaker 2 (02:45:31):
Stand tells how you really feel. He says Macamie is
hideous and no sense of irony can overcome that.
Speaker 3 (02:45:38):
When I hear people comparing it and saying that's their et,
I was like, you have a bad et.
Speaker 4 (02:45:44):
We have a better et.
Speaker 2 (02:45:49):
Uh So Cloak and Dogger Dad k Kent talk. Cloak
and Dagger box would be twenty nine. I think that's
what I'm seeing right.
Speaker 3 (02:45:55):
Yeah, if I didn't have it already.
Speaker 2 (02:46:00):
Oh no, the box is forty two ninety nine. The
standard is nine, the standard is thirty. No, the box
is thirteen dollars more.
Speaker 4 (02:46:11):
It's a fun set. It reminds me of my Attari
twenty six hundred.
Speaker 2 (02:46:18):
I yeah, I love the packaging on that box.
Speaker 3 (02:46:21):
That's when I fell in love with the line was
a Cloak and Dagger.
Speaker 2 (02:46:32):
I would say, I would have to go. Let me
go back to VSU. Now I've now stepped away from
that page like four times.
Speaker 3 (02:46:39):
Wait.
Speaker 2 (02:46:40):
Oh no, it was definitely not the second VSU because
there was also six String Samurai. I think I think
six String Samurai was second and Cloak and Dagger was third.
So I'm not a beast master guy. I don't love it.
But I think Cloak and Dagger was the very first,
like excellent prestige release of this line.
Speaker 3 (02:47:00):
Yeah, a six string is the one on a Prime.
Speaker 2 (02:47:10):
Yes, six string is fully out of Prince. Although I
mean they could drop it tomorrow and it's six string
Samurai that they it was hard for them to sell
that for years, so it'll probably be back. Not bad,
decent sale and decent price. Greatest Vice Academy went through.
(02:47:33):
Six is a big deal.
Speaker 4 (02:47:36):
What good price? I mean forty five bucks.
Speaker 2 (02:47:42):
Yeah, there was a while if I remember, I let
me know Silent Manwell, I think six string Samurai in
the hard box was like ten bucks. During one sale,
Eric says, I'm leaving empty handed tonight, nothing I need,
maybe grabbing Vice Academy later. I will be.
Speaker 3 (02:47:58):
Buying that tonight. Yeah, that's the only thing that I
saw that interests me. That's just for like the sal
trail of those Yeah movies.
Speaker 2 (02:48:12):
I love that era of movie. I love that like
that feeling of that movie. It's kind of like the
sex comedy we talked about coming from seven, Like that
moment had so many of those.
Speaker 3 (02:48:24):
Yeah, well you had stars like Lene and so forth.
Though they definitely it was kind of like, what's the
next movie going to be true?
Speaker 2 (02:48:43):
Okay, he says, yeah, it was ten dollars for that
VSU and he would not have paid full price. That
makes sense.
Speaker 4 (02:48:55):
Sometimes you wait too long and things are just gone.
Speaker 3 (02:49:01):
Like I wanted that Death by Temptation because I love
the cover. Yeah, and then I was like, oh man,
and then the cover went away. But then they had
the standard edition. I was like, okay, I'll get that.
And I waited too long, and now that's out of
print too.
Speaker 2 (02:49:18):
I'll I'll throw out there for anybody that has not
watched it yet, a gun for Jennifer. This VSA sure
one of one of the worst pieces of art they've
ever put on a slip cover, but look past that,
it is genuinely a good movie. It is a surprisingly
good movie.
Speaker 3 (02:49:34):
Is that a revenge Bobby?
Speaker 2 (02:49:37):
Let me see if I remember this one right? Yes, Yes,
it is, Yeah, I remember that.
Speaker 3 (02:49:49):
It is. Yeah, and it's a rape revenge movie. Oh
talking about that Screenlanders show in Revenge?
Speaker 2 (02:49:56):
Oh yeah, I would.
Speaker 3 (02:49:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:49:59):
I saw that they advertised, and I was like, I've
never seen this on the big screen. Those last ten
minutes would be amazing.
Speaker 3 (02:50:09):
Yeah, I think it's a week from today.
Speaker 2 (02:50:13):
Jeez, Chinese Torture Chamber Story one and two is on sale.
That is a recommend for sure. This is a weird
way to talk about this. And so if you've not
watched this channel for a long time, you maybe have
not heard this. But this release of Awaken from Gunpowder
(02:50:34):
and Sky, this is not a good movie. It's not
like a story driven movie. The plot is not there.
But I still stand by the fact I think the
Awaken four K is the best reference disc UHD that
I own. I put that on. Yeah, I put that
on to showcase beautiful what you can do with four KUHD.
(02:50:56):
It is astonishing what they pull off on that disc.
Speaker 4 (02:51:04):
So we're talking visuals here.
Speaker 2 (02:51:07):
Visuals and then let me read again how they frame this,
because I think it's like a documentary of sorts. It
says it's a unique and timely film experience featuring immersive imagery,
beautiful cultures, and an inspiring message. It explores humanity's relationship
with technology in the natural world. Shot over a five
year period in four K and more than thirty countries.
(02:51:29):
It uses time lapses, time dilation, underwater and aerial cinematography
to give you new eyes to see the world. So
it's not exactly like a nature doc, but it is
genuinely like I love the four k's of the BBC,
like Planet Earth stuff, but this is, in my opinion,
even better than those. It's yeah, it's it's pretty great.
Speaker 4 (02:51:53):
I don't like watching Morocca.
Speaker 2 (02:52:00):
And Eric Vincent says it's like Kuleanaskotsky meets Baraka.
Speaker 3 (02:52:05):
Okay, and I would dig it.
Speaker 2 (02:52:11):
I love that. I know that you did not mean
this as a dig Gary, but man, does it sound
like it. It's like Kuena Sikazi, but without a lot
of thought behind it.
Speaker 3 (02:52:24):
Yeah. If you.
Speaker 2 (02:52:26):
If you like things to just showcase what your four
K system can do, I recommend Awaken for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:52:33):
Did I have to have anything running when you came
over to the house, like just on the screen? No?
Speaker 2 (02:52:38):
Not not just to showcase it. No, we've just watched
stuff on it.
Speaker 3 (02:52:42):
Yeah, I've done that though when people are coming over,
I'll put on like sign It or or something like that.
H well, I'll have a spider Verse just spew it up,
so I could just go to a favorite scene and
show that as that is beautiful animation.
Speaker 2 (02:53:07):
In the discord, we had Josie just said if a
title's page is missing from the Vinegar Syndrome site, that
means it'll likely be a part of the out of
print stock that shows up one of these days. So
if something has been out of print and you've been
after it, check to see if it's listed. If it's
not listed in the out of print section, it'll likely
show up eventually.
Speaker 4 (02:53:27):
I'm six string samuraized.
Speaker 3 (02:53:29):
Not there. I'm not surprised, I mean, and.
Speaker 2 (02:53:40):
Yeah, that's the thing is Awaken is it's like a
photo exhibit. It's just not themed. It is beautiful though.
There's one section that they go through like like like
a cherry blossom garden through Japan and it is just
astonishingly beautiful. It is so great.
Speaker 3 (02:53:59):
Can someone who will put it on John Wick for
just to see that one scene at the Japanese hotel.
Speaker 4 (02:54:07):
Yeah, I could appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (02:54:09):
Yeah, all right. Some other recommendations corpse Mania pretty good.
Definitely recommend, especially if you are into those cat three types.
And yes, Eric, the slip on Awaken is a lenticular slip.
That's a good one. Curfew. I didn't hate it. It's
(02:54:31):
not bad for that price. It's actually a pretty good pick.
Speaker 3 (02:54:34):
Up. Check it out.
Speaker 2 (02:54:36):
Daniel isn't real. This is from Yellowvale like that one
quite a bit. Actually, very very interesting movie. Demonoid. That's
all right, it's not my favorite. Uh dial Code Santa Clause.
Is this still with the slip? No, the slip is
not here. So they got a whole bunch of this
one great movie. Everybody should have Dial Code Santa Claus.
Speaker 3 (02:54:58):
If you don't have it yet, Eat Braylon, Eat Brains Love.
I hate that movie.
Speaker 2 (02:55:05):
I'm sorry. That's the same guy that made Idle Hands,
and I hate Idle Hands as well. For some reason,
his filmmaking does not work for me. Ah see you, Brian.
Speaker 3 (02:55:25):
I think most people will be singing that song it
was all right, that would at least not the first night.
Speaker 4 (02:55:33):
Do what comes up tomorrow at noon?
Speaker 2 (02:55:35):
Yeah, it's a good question. Some of these are pretty
decent prices. I really need to see Journey to the
West from Connie. I've heard that it's very good. Same
with How to Be Loved. I've not watched this haz yet.
Speaker 3 (02:55:52):
All right, I put Awaken on my witch. Let's I'll
see what happens tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:55:57):
Nice kid candidate. Not the most exciting documentary, but for
some reason. It really worked for me. It's a very
hopeful documentary to watch in a time like we're living
through right now. I will re recommend Mark of the Devil,
(02:56:18):
very very good. Burning Paradise sold out. Yeah, that checks out.
A great movie. Night Trained to Tear. Weird frickin' movie,
but definitely worth the watch. Primal Rage is a fun
and I still can't believe they did that on four K.
Speaker 3 (02:56:36):
It's wild.
Speaker 2 (02:56:40):
Reservoir wants to know if the kid won the election.
I can't tell you. It would spoil the whole movie.
Watch the Reefer Madness slip is back from Dark Star.
Speaker 3 (02:56:57):
Oh, they have a lot of these Bye Academy one
through six, Over two thousand left in stock.
Speaker 2 (02:57:05):
Well, yeah one of them.
Speaker 3 (02:57:07):
Yeah, if you're on a fan to get a little
while to wait.
Speaker 2 (02:57:11):
It's limited to six thousand. Many many left, all right,
because it's just a sale and we've gone through most
of it. Any any final thoughts there.
Speaker 3 (02:57:26):
KB, I think we're going to have some pleasant surprises
throughout the next couple of days. So if you're like me,
load up the app on your phones and just stay tuned,
you know, don't wait for the email, just hop on
at twelve oh one or whatever it is tomorrow afternoon
(02:57:48):
and see what's up, because I think we're going to
have some pleasant surprises.
Speaker 2 (02:57:56):
Uh, poulp is asking is free Way worth full price? Honestly,
I'd love Freeway. I like the first one more than
the second one, but they're both really worth the watch.
The first one is genuinely a really good movie. Good
question there, Gary, Eric pulled the trigger on Vice Academy
(02:58:18):
with that called a night and have a good night.
We'll talk to you in the discord tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (02:58:21):
Eric.
Speaker 2 (02:58:23):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how the next
four and a half days play out. And then that's
the hard part. Don't forget in three days we're getting
like twenty six announcements or whatever. There's so many I
don't even know, Like, just prepare yourself, not only all
these sale prices, not only out of print stuff coming back,
all kinds of stuff coming in September, coming on Monday. Yeah,
(02:58:47):
any any questions on titles that are on sale in
the chat? Gary, that sounds very healthy. Gary says, I
just just a bunch of nonsense because I did it
so quickly, I don't remember what it was. Yeah, next
drop will until Saturday at noon. I believe that is
(02:59:10):
correct because when you click on the drop down here
for the sale, the Friday out of print just takes
you to this stuff. So Saturday will be the next one,
which when you click on it, it's nothing. So yes,
Saturday at noon and then uh, don't forget that. Yeah,
out of print stuff sale titles. Check him out anything else,
(02:59:37):
mister KB Loves Movies.
Speaker 3 (02:59:42):
Got some conversations coming up next couple of weeks Tuesdays
and Wednesday evenings, mostly Tuesdays.
Speaker 2 (02:59:53):
You know what, the last time you were here, the
podcast didn't exist yet. You should tell them about that.
Speaker 3 (02:59:57):
Oh yeah, uh find out a lot of people were
watching my interview series called The Conversation while there were
ubering and door dashing and just commuting to and from work.
So decided to set up a audio only podcast. So
it consists of exclusive conversations and ones from the past.
(03:00:22):
And we're going to do a couple of roundtables for
the spooky season to coincide with my r Franchise movie challenge.
So I at first I was going to say, well,
let me find like one person whose favorite franchise it's
hell Raizo. Let's say that's one of the ones I
(03:00:43):
was going to watch, but then you find out a
lot of people want to hop in, so I might
have like two or three people, so it might be
a few roundtable episodes on the podcast as well, So
some you have to go to YouTube or the others
you have to go with a podcast, and some will
black stay tuned.
Speaker 2 (03:01:01):
Yeah, it's good stuff you've put out. I mean not
only incredible conversations of the years, but already in the
audio stuff. People need to go subscribe if you haven't. Yeah,
as usual, if you are new here and have not
heard it, I'll mention the Patreon once and only once tonight.
Not really a hard cell type of person, because I
hate promoting myself. But if you want to support the show,
(03:01:21):
or if you want a ongoing conversation about this from
feedback from a lot of people that have seen these
movies and loved these movies, we have a very active discord.
You can check that out in the description below. On
top of that, there's options for other things like exclusive videos,
copies of the Physical Media Advocate magazine that I publish,
(03:01:42):
handwritten notes, exclusive merch, lots of other stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:01:46):
I'm terrible for promoting myself, but go check it out.
We'd love to have you.
Speaker 4 (03:01:51):
The discord is worth it, That's what I'll say.
Speaker 3 (03:01:54):
It is. It is just I have my like I
keep my phone off for most of the day while
I'm working, but I have my notifications on for the
deals because you want to get moved on those as
soon as you get them.
Speaker 2 (03:02:08):
So I've had people tell me the deals and the
stock updates are the two channels that are the most dangerous,
and then they immediately say, shit, there's a notification.
Speaker 3 (03:02:18):
Yeah, yeah, And the thing is, you want to do it,
you want to pull the trigger.
Speaker 2 (03:02:24):
It's true, it's true. It's a good time of year
for that too. We got lots of sales stuff coming up,
so come check it out. That being said, we'll be
back next Thursday. And of course it's Will's weekend next Thursday.
Everybody will want to be here. Yeah. I love y'all.
Be safe this weekend. Only spend it within your means.
You're you're you're amazing, and thank you for watching The Disconnected.
(03:02:47):
On the way out, make sure that you are subscribed
to the channel, that you've liked the video, and that
you've copied the link to be able to share with
someone else that may appreciate this.
Speaker 7 (03:03:31):
Hello, this is Aaron West. I am the author of
the A twenty four New Wave. In this book, I
look at A twenty four's output and I make the
argument that we are in a new wave movement right now.
A twenty four plays a major role. This book has
a supplemental podcast where each episode is a brief conversation
about an A twenty four related topic, whether an actor, director,
(03:03:53):
or even a genre. As I continue research for the
book and conduct interviews, I expect to record podcasts episodes
with people involved with the company. You can find the
podcast at sendjourneys dot com or wherever you find podcasts.
And we are proud to be members of the Someone's
Favorite Productions Podcast Network.
