In the infinite realm of the internet, where the number of websites exceeds a staggering 1.8 billion, a voice rises above the noise, breaking through the chatter, navigating the maze of zeros and ones to bring clarity to those seeking to grasp the reins of this digital beast. Welcome, my dear listeners, to SEO Basics for Beginners: Understanding and Implementing Effective Strategies. This is your one-stop destination for all things Search Engine Optimization.
Your guide on this journey, your faithful navigator through the mysterious and often intimidating seas of SEO, is none other than yours truly. My name is Willie DeJarnette, and I am a seasoned veteran of digital marketing with over a decade of experience. My resume includes helping small and large businesses scale the dizzying heights of Google search rankings, transforming unknown entities into household names. But enough about me. Let's delve into the heart of the matter: SEO.
The history of SEO is a fascinating one. Back in the early days of the internet, in the late '90s, a website could rank highly merely by stuffing keywords into its pages, much like a child overfilling a toy box. But search engines grew more sophisticated as we journeyed into the new millennium. Finally, Google, the Goliath of them all, introduced complex algorithms, forever changing the landscape of SEO.
Let me paint a picture for you, a concrete example that will help you grasp the enormity of this evolution.
Imagine an old-fashioned library with dusty shelves filled with numerous books. The old librarian shuffles to find a book using a rudimentary card system. For example, you asked for a book on 'dinosaurs,' and she handed you a book on 'eggs,' because it mentioned 'dinosaurs' somewhere. That's how search engines were in the '90s.
Now, imagine a modern, state-of-the-art library with an AI librarian. You ask for a book on 'dinosaurs,' and not only does it provide you with books specifically on dinosaurs, but it also categorizes them based on the period, type of dinosaurs, targeted age group, and so much more. It even suggests books on paleontology because it understands the broader context of your interest. That, my friends, is how search engines, especially Google, work today.
With such advancement, the role of SEO evolved, becoming the lighthouse guiding businesses to potential customers. So, what is SEO? It is a series of strategies, techniques, and tactics used to increase the visibility of a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement on the search engine results page.
To better understand SEO, let's draw upon the wisdom of statistics. According to BrightEdge, as of 2021, over 53% of all trackable website traffic comes from organic search. Now, that's more than half of all internet traffic! So imagine, if your website isn't optimized for search engines, you may miss out on more than half of your potential audience or customers.
Now, I want you to think about the last time you used a search engine. You type in a keyword or a query, and within milliseconds, a list of relevant websites appears. Most likely, you clicked on one of the first few results. Studies show that the first five organic results account for nearly 67.60% of all the clicks. The competition for these coveted spots is intense, and that's where SEO comes into play.
Consider this: you're a small coffee shop owner in New York, and you've just created a website. You want people searching for "best coffee shop in New York" to find your site. You can potentially outrank your competitors on Google by implementing SEO strategies, optimizing your website content with the right keywords, improving your site's loading speed, and building quality backlinks.
However, SEO isn't a 'set-it-and-forget-it' strategy. It's an ongoing process as dynamic as the internet itself. Google's algorithms are updated regularly, so the tactics that got you to the top spot last year might not work this year. To remain relevant, you must keep up with these changes and adapt your SEO strategies accordingly.
Now, this might seem daunting, but let me assure you, it's not. Instead, it's a journey full of opportunities. It's a journey that begins with understanding how search engines work, what people are searching for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines, and which search engines your targeted audience prefers.
And so, we embark on this journey together. Over the next hour, we will unravel the mysteries of SEO. We will explore the role of keywords, quality

Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
