Our guest today is Frank Corrigan, MD Formerly an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of post-traumatic and dissociative disorders, Frank Corrigan is now in private practice. Author and co-author of multiple important texts about trauma, neuroscience, and therapy, Dr. Corrigan joins us to discuss a paradigm shift in the field of trauma recovery, brought about by his research and clinical process.Β
As a growing number of clinicians are discovering, with Deep Brain Reorienting, we are learning that it is possible, by gently slowing down and anchoring, to access the earliest moments of shock from trauma, recorded by the brainstem, and to empower survivors to clear these wounds without the overwhelm and dysregulation often triggered by reliving these terrible memories.
Dr. Corrigan will be teaching this modality next with EEG Learn in December 2023. See https://www.eeglearn.com/dbr for details.
πππ πππͺπ§π€ππππ ππ€ππππ¨π© -- This interview has a different focus than usual, as we're not explicitly discussing neurofeedback. One reason to explore this area is the number of neurofeedback clinicians that have begun using DBR in the last two years. Also, many of us have come to understand that, at best, like neurofeedback, DBR is working with lower brain structures, the deeper part of our neurophysiology, since this is where, it appears, that attachment rupture is first felt. As Sebern Fisher says in this interview, "It seems to me that the whole field of concentration on developmental trauma or complex trauma is turning -- and not so slowly -- toward attachment rupture or failure as the core issue." This is the therapeutic value of bottom-up processing. There is much to learn.
The show is called The Neurofeed: Eat Lunch & Get Regulated. We know of course that not everyone has lunch at noon Eastern Time. Still, we celebrate global communities that experience the potential for better self-regulation. Together, we can change the world, one brain at a time.
