Revelation 16 sets the world up for the final battle of the Tribulation period on earth. Seven bowls or judgements are poured out on the planet. They are horrible. They are the worst. Many millions will die. The entire ecology of the earth is corrupted. They are so severe that many scholars believe the final days before the return of Christ will be one to two months only. These will be a terrible time. Matthew 24:22 says God shortens the time otherwise everyone on earth will be dead. See Revelation 15; 16; 1 Timothy 4:1; Exodus 7-10.
