This week on The Stacks, in part one (0:00-1:30:45), we do a detailed look at Shinya Tsukamoto's 2011 psychological horror/drama Kotoko, in addition to the finale of Sergio Martino's Twin Peaks-y giallo TV miniseries Private Crimes. In part two (1:30:45-3:32:15) we talk in shorter format about an appropriate 13 additional features for our climactic Halloween roundup: Frank Henenlotter's incisive 1990 comedy-horror Frankenhooker, Claudio Fragasso's cheap and impenetrable 1989 sequel Zombi 4: After Death, the 2009 Coen Brothers' 60s Jewish identity / family curse film A Serious Man, the corny 2016 M. Night Shyamalan mental traumas are superpowers film Split and its wacky 2019 sequel Glass, Tony Randel's wild direct to video sequel Amityville 1992: It's About Time, Mary Lambert's 1989 Stephen King adaptation Pet Sematary and its 1992 sequel Pet Sematary II, the 1982 King and George A. Romero collaborative EC Comics tribute Creepshow and its 1987 sequel Creepshow 2 (directed by cinematographer Michael Gornick), the 1976 Richard Donner Catholic horror landmark The Omen, the Y2K Tarsem Singh serial killer procedural variant The Cell, and the exhausting 2007 Rob Zombie remake of Halloween. In part three, we talk briefly about the gigantic pile of other stuff we've watched since last time, and make our picks for next week.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
