Es ist mal wieder Zeit, über Asteroiden zu sprechen! Denn dieser Tage jagen gleich zwei bahnbrechende und doch komplett unterschiedliche Meldungen zu diesem Thema durch die Presse.
In den Proben des Asteroiden Bennu, die 2023 von der Sonde OSIRIS-REx zur Erde gebracht wurden, fand man nun tatsächlich die fundamentalen Bausteine des Lebens. DNA- und RNA-Basen, Aminosäuren und sogar salzhaltige Mineralien. Zeigt uns Bennu, dass das Leben durch Asteroideneinschläge seinen Anfang auf der Erde nehmen konnte? Oder ist es doch nur irdische Kontamination, wie damals beim Asteroiden Ryugu?
Gleichzeitig schlug das ATLAS Teleskop Ende 2024 Alarm: Ein Asteroid dort draußen nimmt Kurs auf uns. Bisher war er unbekannt, und jetzt verzieht er sich auch schon wieder in die Tiefe des Alls, wo wir ihn kaum beobachten können. Doch er wird in wenigen Jahren zurückkehren.
