First appearing on Randy Jackson’s 1989 album Randy & the Gypsys, he founded SlapBak in 1990 and two years later delivered the debut LP, Fast Food Funkateers, which included guests Larry Blackmon of Cameo, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. Since then, the band has performed relentlessly and released more than 10 albums. Speaking of which, as of this taping, SlapBak’s latest project, Funk Lives Matter, was imminent and includes the booty-quaking single, “Hey Now.”

Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations.
