(00:00):
Greetings, friends.

(00:01):
Welcome to Walking In His Word,
the podcast, where we embark on short
faith filled journeys
through the Scriptures in episodes
that are both concise and impactful.
Each week
we take an 8 to 10 minute
purposeful stroll
through the pages of God's Word,
offering insights,
wisdom and inspiration
to enhance our day.
So join us as we explore each topic,

(00:21):
uncovering the treasures
hidden within the Scriptures
and learning how
they can be applied to our lives.
So let's take this brief
but powerful journey of walking
in his word together.
In this episode,
we continue looking at the parables
that demonstrate
the father's love for the lost.
Those parables are the parable
of the lost sheep, the lost coin,
and the prodigal son.
Last time we looked

(00:42):
at the parable of the Lost Sheep,
which introduced the context
for these parables,
which was the scribes and Pharisees
confronting Jesus
for associating with sinners.
Jesus used the parable of the lost sheep
to show that even though those sheep
went astray of its own ignorance,
God's seeking love still fervently
sort it out until it was found.
In this episode,
we look at the parable of the lost coin,
which is lost out of neglect.

(01:03):
We can find this parable in Luke
15 verses eight through ten.
It says either
woman having ten pieces of silver
actually lose One
piece does not light a candle,
sweep the house
and seek diligently till she find it.
And when she does find it,
she calls her friends and her neighbors
together saying, Rejoice with me, for
I have found the peace which I had lost.
Likewise, I say to you,
there is great joy

(01:24):
in the presence of angels of God
over one sinner that repents.
This parable
describes a woman losing one
silver coin out of ten.
The coin in this parable
would probably be a drachma,
which is a silver coin,
and that's equivalent
to about a day's wage.
So therefore
it would be of great value
to this poor woman.
Certainly it would have been
a matter of concern that she had
lost 10% of her savings.

(01:44):
While this parable is different
from the lost sheep,
the central theme of God's seeking
love for the lost
is essentially the same.
This parable
also reinforces the point
that there will be more joy
in heaven over one sinner who repents.
While the main theme of the lost
coin is the same,
there is a subtle difference
that I'd like to focus on.
In this episode,
the sheep was lost
out of its own ignorance,
but this coin cannot do that.

(02:05):
The coin cannot stray off.
This coin was lost out of negligence,
and I'd like to look at the reasons
for this loss this week
and what our attitude towards
the loss should be As part of the church.
The parables of the lost sheep
and the lost coin both give
excellent examples on how it's possible
for a church to lose someone
because of ignorance and also
because of neglect.

(02:26):
Jesus used these two parables
to teach his disciples different ways
that believers can leave the kingdom.
The sheep and the coin
did not choose to leave.
The sheep drifted because of ignorance.
And this coin was lost
because of the owners neglect.
If leaders
do not teach the fundamentals of God's
Word, people can go astray just like that
sheep out of ignorance.
They didn't even realize
that they were doing something

(02:46):
that led them off the path.
Likewise, when leaders neglect
ministering to their people,
their people can turn aside
because they feel like their leaders
do not care about them.
As we can glean
from these verses, it's possible
for believers to leave the church
because of the neglect
of their leadership.
Church leaders
must never forget their responsibility
to shepherd the flock
that God has given them.
First Peter five to through
force is the following Shepherd

(03:07):
the flock of God
that is among you exercising oversight
not under compulsion,
but willingly as God would have you,
not for shameful gain, but eagerly
not domineering
over those in your charge,
but being examples to the flock.
And when the Chief Shepherd appears,
you will receive the unfailing
crown of glory.
Leaders give an account
or those of the flock
that God has given them.

(03:28):
And as we know from Hebrews 1317,
it says Obey your leaders
and submit to them,
for they are keeping
watch over your souls
as those who give it account.
Let them do this as with joy
and not with groaning, for
that would be of no advantage to you
if someone leaves
because they are neglected.
Instruction or mentoring,
the leader will give it account
to the Lord
and it's easy
to let the day to day

(03:48):
responsibilities of leading
church consumers.
But we must never forget
that we are there to edify
and equip the saints for ministry.
When church
leadership loses
focus on equipping the Saints,
they risk the risk of their flocks
stagnating and turning away or leaving
because of neglect increases.
It is therefore necessary
for the church
to heed
the implicit warning

(04:09):
found in these parables
and do everything that can be done
to both grow and mature the membership.
But this lesson does not explicitly apply
only to church leadership.
Fellowship with other believers
is an essential part of growth as well.
In reality,
no one in the church
should feel neglected,
and in reality, it's
not the entire
responsibility of the pastor
or the leadership to nurture and grow

(04:32):
the membership.
Fellowship is more
than just attending a local service
and performing functions.
Fellowship is the process
by which believers become one body.
Fellowship is also part
of the mentoring process
and is critical to building mature
disciples of Christ.
Believers must be involved
with other believers
as we are all part of the body of Christ,
and we desperately need each other.

(04:53):
First Corinthians 1224
through 25 says,
But God has so composed
the body,
giving greater honor
to the part that lacked it,
that there may be no division
in the body,
but that the members
may have the same care for one another.
If one member suffers,
all suffer together.
If one member is honored,
all rejoice together.
The maturing disciple of Christ
is one who spends time and fellowship

(05:13):
with other disciples.
So as new people come in
and make it a point to get to know them
and spend time with them,
they are part of the body of Christ
and we need them just as they need us.
The lost sheep
and the lost coin both illustrate
God's seeking love for the lost,
but there are also lessons
for the church body
and our attitude
towards the lost as well.
When one who is lost is found,

(05:34):
it is cause for great celebration
and all of heaven indeed rejoices.
Although it would be wonderful
if none went astray or were neglected,
this sometimes happens in the church
and it is ultimately
the leader of the church
who gives the account
for those who are in the flock.
Even so,
we are all part of the body of Christ
and each one of us plays
a part and is needed.
So today, as you listen,
whether you're a pastor or not,

(05:55):
ask the Lord to lay someone on your heart
and reach out to them,
even if it's just a virtual
call or a text or so forth.
Please
feel free to utilize
our social media channels to comment
and to reach out and edify
and build each other up.
During COVID 19,
there was a lot of feelings of loneliness
as people were isolated.
I even read a comment on a church's

(06:16):
Facebook page
that said no one's called me
or talked to me since COVID 19,
and when the church reopens,
I'll be going somewhere else.
And this was back
during the height of COVID.
I remember reading that,
and it just stuck with me.
No one's reached out, no one's connected.
But now during COVID,
we were all kind of isolated.
We didn't have a choice,
but at the same time
there was text messages

(06:36):
and it was phones.
There was opportunities
for believers to connect
and feel connected
and be part of the body of the Christ.
The comment
I read on this Facebook page was,
you know,
no one's called me and it's talk to me
and I'll be going somewhere else.
This would be the very definition
of lost by neglect,
and it could have been easily avoided.
So I encourage you today,

(06:57):
as you're listening to this episode,
reach out to someone,
increase your fellowship
with your fellow believers and sisters,
even if it is a text message
or a phone call or a zoom call.
Face time, whatever it is,
reach out to somebody asked the Lord
to lay someone on your heart
that you could reach out
so that no one feels neglected.
And if you are feeling neglected,
reach out.

(07:18):
Reach out to me directly.
I want
I don't want anyone in the body
to feel neglected.
So God bless you.
May you feel connected
with the body of Christ.
