(00:00):
Time to talk windows here on the Check
A Pro radio show and my window expert,
Lyndol Woodruff is joining me here,
Lyndol.
How are you?
Amazing.
How are you living the dream?
Thank you so much.
Thank you for asking.
You know,
it's summertime and in the summertime,
our energy bills go up and people are looking for solutions to reduce their utility bills because it does cost more for us to cool our homes in the summer than any other time of year.

(00:34):
Even in the winter.
I believe it costs less to heat than it does to cool in the summertime.
So people say,
you know what you need,
you need a new air conditioning system,
you need more insulation.
I say you might want to look at windows.
So tell me about how people can save money right now on their utility bills by replacing their old drafty windows.

(01:01):
Well,
windows is definitely one of the most important components to a,
you know,
a a really well functioning home,
overall performance temperature settings,
stuff like that.
Uh That's why we chose or my father chose way back in the day to focus on windows and make that the main focus because of how beneficial it was when he got ours replaced.

(01:25):
So when I have these conversations with people,
people say,
well,
you hype it up because you sell windows.
No,
we chose windows because of the benefits.
And so we wanna help,
we want to help people.
So really,

it drastically reduces energy bills really quickly.

(01:46):
That's,
a cool thing.
You don't have to wait around for an R.O.I., you notice an immediate difference is when those old drafty windows come out and all that old nailing fin and mortar is chipped away from the original building of,
of the house.
All that stuff's taken out and started new and you get that new good vinyl frame,
energy efficient window in with the proper caking.

(02:08):
So nothing leaks.
Those things are designed to keep all that weather outside and keep your ac and your heater in and so that it's gonna,
your ho your home's gonna heat and cool to the temperature,
you set it to much faster because nothing's escaping anymore.
Your home literally becomes like a vacuum,
the outside,
pulling the inside out and the inside,

(02:29):
pulling the outside in right around.
The 15 year old mark is when you really start to see it happening.
Um If there's old metal builder grade windows man and you got a,
a standard brick home,
it's over 15 years old,
you're losing a lot of energy and it's astounding how those bills can go down immediately.
But because the H VAC system doesn't have to work near as hard to try to keep up with the thermostat in the first place.

(02:56):
It thinks craning and craning and craning and cranking because you're losing energy.
Yeah,
that's why.
So when you can,
when you can fix that problem,
man,
it's,
it makes a world of difference really quick.
I tell people all the time,
it's not necessarily your air conditioning system and they say,
yeah,
but it's 10 years old,

(03:17):
fine.
Have an ac guy come out and take a look and maybe you want to replace that,
but that's not necessarily going to fix your problem because if you have single pain windows or even double pain windows are not efficient,
then it doesn't matter how good the air conditioning system is,
it's going to run longer,

(03:37):
which is gonna cost you more money because it's spinning more,
right?
So it's gonna be spinning the meter more.
And on top of that,
there's more wear and tear on your air conditioning system,
which means you'll be more maintenance and you'll have to replace that sooner.
I would suggest calling Lyndol and his team out.
It's not gonna cost you any money,
right?
You guys are gonna come out and take a look.

(03:59):
Absolutely 100%.
And,
and yeah,
like you just said,
that H VAC system,
it's gonna at least double in its life expectancy and you don't have all those maintenance fees for all those years that stack up and stack up because it's getting to take breaks all throughout the day and just kick it and relax and chill.
And that way now you can kick it and relax and chill in your home and it'll be much more cozy with energy efficient windows.

(04:23):
Yeah.
So,
you know,
if you're 100 and 50 if you're 100 and £50 overweight,
you don't go to the doctor and say I need a new heart.
Let's keep the old heart and change the weight,
right?
Because the heart will last longer.
And that's true.
We know that's true.
And,
and,
and so we need to think of the home as a total system and there's no question,

(04:47):
insulation in the walls in the attic are also key.
So have that checked out as well.
But for some reason,
little people don't think of the windows so much of thinking insulation and air conditioning,
air conditioning and insulation.
Um,
and I can go on about attic ventilation as well.
That's a whole another story.
Get your windows checked out,

(05:07):
contact Lyndol.
All of his information is located in the description of this podcast.
He and his team are fantastic.
They'll come out,
they'll take a look at it.
They're gonna tell you everything you need to know about your windows.
They'll tell you when they were installed,
they'll tell you what kind of uh,
windows they are because you guys know windows.
Yes,
sir.
That's what we do and I appreciate you.

(05:29):
Yeah.
Hey Lyndol,
thank you so much.
Uh We'll see and we'll see you again soon.
Likewise.
Yes,
sir.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
