(00:01):
I've been a homeowner for a very long time.
I've been working with contractors,
home service providers for a very long time as well.
I'm Check A Pro Joe from the Check A Pro Radio show.
And this question comes up all the time.
Who should I hire?
How do I know if they're good at what they do?
How do I know if they're gonna show up?
(00:23):
Well,
I've asked Lyndol Woodruff to pop onto the program today from Woodruff Windows to talk about his friendly and competent installers and he's proud of them.
And so Lyndol,
welcome to the program and let's talk about the importance of,
of,
of not just yours,
but in general,
(00:43):
anyone who's looking to have any team come out to do home improvement,
why is it so important to have people who are friendly and competent?
Well,
first off,
it's your home,
you want to be able to trust,
obviously who's gonna be in your home doing work.
That's why word of mouth and referrals are still alive and well,
(01:07):
and it will always be alive and well,
because,
you know,
if someone has a good experience,
they,
they pass that on to other people and they trust their friends,
whatever.
That's why next door works so well for recommendations these days.
Um,
but there you hear so many horror stories when I'm in homes,
talking to homeowners about experiences they've had with people doing work on their house,
(01:27):
beer cans in the bushes.
Um,
you know,
stuff being cut wrong,
stuff being angled wrong.
Um,
just so many things.
Uh,
there's,
it's kind of hard to find people that truly care.
Um,
take care of the job as if it's their own and still show pride in their work.
(01:49):
So I'm very thankful that we still have,
you know,
some of the installers that started with my dad originally,
that,
that's all they do is windows.
They don't do anything else.
They're window specialists.
They're good people,
they do fantastic work.
They don't cut corners and they don't buy beer at quick trip in the middle of the day.
(02:12):
And that's,
and that's important because when we stop by the convenience store to buy our lottery tickets,
we see these people buying the big can of beer,
putting it in the paper bag and,
uh,
sitting in the cab of the truck drinking.
It's true.
And,
and so it is Texas and that's kind of a Texas thing.
(02:32):
You don't see that in other parts of the country necessarily in some parts you do.
But you don't want somebody showing up to your home who is drinking,
who's not competent also,
who's not friendly,
I mean,
who wants to do business with someone who's grumpy?
And I know a lot of the team members have been with you and your dad for decades and they really don't know any better.
(02:58):
They don't know how to be bad.
It's kind of like if you don't expose your dog to other dogs,
they don't know how to be a bad dog or your child to bad Children.
They don't know how to be a bad child.
Right.
So your team obviously doesn't spend time with bad contractors.
No,
not at all.
And you know,
that's,
it's really cool.
Most of our reviews online are about our installers and I,
(03:21):
I love that how,
how,
how clean they are,
how courteous they are,
how they clean up as they go.
Everything's left,
spotless,
friendly joking around the way that our installers when they're on jobs,
the way that they communicate with each other and banter,
there's never arguing,
the kids can be left there because they're not sitting cursing and telling foul mouth jokes or,
you know,
stuff like that.
(03:41):
Just good people that do great work that don't cut corners.
And that's one of the reasons that we've,
you know,
been able to keep the reputation that we,
we've had for so long is because of those guys.
And we have a new team now that just joined us a couple months ago,
couple of young guys,
super hard workers.
Very good work ethic.
(04:02):
And the reason I brought him on is because they embodied,
you know,
I sent him to a couple of projects with our main team first to get his feedback.
He called me the next day.
He said,
man,
where did you find these guys?
Like these guys are amazing.
So I started sending them out to their own installs and I get the same feedback.
They were polite,
they were courteous,
super clean,
(04:22):
um very respectable,
did a great job and everything's perfect and he's,
he literally stayed at one house till nine o'clock at night repairing some extra sheet rock stuff that wasn't even his job just to make sure that it was perfect before he left.
And so that's,
that's our principles.
We make sure and align ourselves with people that have those same principles.
(04:46):
So we don't have to worry about it.
Like we're not getting some Joe Schmo from the corner to,
you know,
come subcontract and do this.
Like,
you know,
we,
we have our people,
um and people can 100% count on it being done,
right?
And have a good experience.
So very thankful.
And it's really nice to know as a business owner that you're not gonna get a phone call from a homeowner saying that one of your installers did this because,
(05:14):
you know,
you know,
you and so it's kind of like knowing your Children or your spouse where someone says,
you know,
your wife did this.
I'm like No,
she didn't.
That's not her because you know them so well.
Versus if you know,
if you pick up day labor,
which I didn't want to go there,
um,
they don't know how to do the job.
Well,
and you don't know who they are and now you're taking a huge risk as a supplier of services and products to the homeowner.
(05:41):
Uh,
and I know you don't do that.
Lyndol.
Thank you so much for joining me.
I really appreciate all that you do for the homeowners out there.
Thanks for having me,
man.
Always appreciate it.
