(00:01):
Windows,
windows and more windows.
Let's talk.
Windows.
Lindol Woodruff is joining me from Woodruff Windows.
Hey Lyndol,
how are you?
How about you?
I'm doing great.
Hey,
you know,
we talk about windows all the time because you're the window guy here on the program and something came to my mind about the different types of windows.
There's just a lot of different options.
(00:21):
So,
uh you know,
I wanted to ask you the question,
what are the different types of windows people can put in their home there?
Oh,
there's like you said,
there's a lot,
the,
the most common um really is uh a standard single hung window and single hung,
just means one sash operates.
So it's an operating window lifts from the bottom,
just a standard operating window and the sash tilts into the home so you can clean the glass from the inside.
(00:49):
Um make maintenance to the window a lot easier.
And of course,
you got a,
a picture window,
picture window is just glass,
just a fixed unit of glass with a frame which really opens up the view if you want to kind of transform the feel of your living room looking out into the backyard,
if you kind of have like a backyard oasis and you want to see more of it.
(01:09):
Just a nice big,
um,
fixed panel of insulated glass with a,
with a new energy efficient frame is always a good option.
And then uh,
casement windows are really neat,
really popular.
They're the ones that crank out.
So they have a,
you know,
a,
a duplicated version of the old school wooden crank out windows that you probably remember from grandma's house.
(01:34):
Um,
an energy efficient vinyl frame version of that.
So those are really neat.
They,
they've got some,
some good security features.
Uh,
you know,
the,
the,
the part that cranks out has a little safety latch.
So it can only,
if you put it in place,
it can only open a couple of inches so nobody can fall out of it or,
you know,
if it's a second floor window.
But what that really does is that alludes to looking like a picture window.
(01:59):
It opens up the view because it's solid glass,
but it still swings out and open.
So you can still ventilate the home.
So you get the best of both worlds,
you can ventilate the home and you can also have a totally clear view without that meeting rail blocking any view where the latches are.
You know,
your standard operating window has the latches.
Um,
(02:19):
and then there's double hung,
double hung windows is where both sash sashes operate and they tilt into the home that's really more popular on the coast though,
for,
for ventilating.
Not a lot of people do double hung here,
but those are the standard,
standard options that we could deal with,
you know,
double hung windows a long time ago when I was young,
(02:43):
um,
a lot of homes had those,
especially in other parts of the country.
It was popular that they would,
they would come up from the bottom and from the top.
Um and,
but windows have,
have,
have changed so much.
The,
the technology is,
is,
is incredible and um you know,
(03:04):
from single pain to multiple pains to the gas that goes inside and,
and you know,
low e and all that stuff.
It's,
it's just incredible.
I encourage people to reach out to Lyndal and his team at Woodruff Windows to learn more about what you have and maybe what you should get because if your windows are older,
(03:30):
you may want to upgrade to a more efficient one.
But at the same time,
you may be able to change the style of the window.
Right.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah,
there's several different options.
It depends on what you're going for in the room.
You know,
we can,
we can go over all that stuff with you when we do consultations.
It really,
really boils down to the energy efficiency though and the comfort level that it brings to your home and combined with aesthetics.
(03:55):
So,
yeah,
Yeah,
that's why we exist to educate homeowners on,
you know,
what's going on with the efficiency and how to help them save money and make it more comfortable and beautiful all at the same time because it does increase the property value for sure.
So the more curb appeal you can bring um the better if you're going to sell,
you know,
stuff like that.
Yeah.
No,
