You Don’t Fit In Podcast with Helen Siemens

You Don’t Fit In Podcast with Helen Siemens

Out of Complacency. Into Loving God Deeply There is a yearning inside of you for a deep and meaningful relationship with God. You love Him, but not as much as you know you could. Or should. You struggle with feelings of guilt because you know that often you’re just going through the motions rather than eagerly drinking from the well that never runs dry. You go through spurts of motivation and excitement and then crash down on feelings of discouragement, apathy, or hopelessness. I know what it’s like to feel just a little lost. A little bit stuck. Or even, just flat-out complacent. I understand that the reality of mom life and the day-to-day tasks can get in the way of all our best intentions. I also know that sometimes it’s just sheer exhaustion that keeps us from moving forward and growing in the Word of God and in our faith. God knows that motherhood is demanding. Yet He made a way for you to be a mom and have a vibrant spiritual life and connection with Him at the same time. He means for you to thrive in life, not merely get by. Let me be that voice in your ear (literally and figuratively) pushing you forward. Encouraging you. Sharing stories of healing and victories. Reminding you of His amazing love and amazing grace. And, maybe, giving you a swift kick in the pants to keep you going. My name is Helen Siemens, and in this podcast, I want to talk to you like I would to a friend over a hot cup of coffee, reminding you of the truth you already know. Stirring you up to love and good works. Cheering you on as your sister in Christ, walking with you through spiritual growth and intentional living.

I don't doubt that, like me, you have heard these two words frequently over the past few years: Alignment and Empowerment.

They sound like good words, don't they? It even feels good to say them!

But in this episode I'd like to talk about what the world means when using these words and what is actually biblical.

It's important for us to be discerning and differentiate meanings from a biblical perspective rather than to be led astray...

Are you living in a constant state of self-condemnation? Do you find yourself beating yourself up over what you said or didn't say, what you did or didn't do? Do you feel like you can never get it right, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't feel good about yourself? Living in a place of condemnation is exhausting, and it’s not the way we’re meant to live.

There’s freedom in Christ, and He gives us grace! He is tender tow...

Wherever you are, right in this very moment, God can meet you there! We know that God is all we need, in the general sense, but do we understand that He is exactly what we need in each moment? He is the I AM. But I think we don't always realize what that means.

Today, I want to encourage you by going through many of the different names for God, so that you can truly see that He is what you need, no matter what you are going throug...

It's not only about what you do, but also the attitude with which you do it. Are you doing everything with excellence and as unto the Lord, or are you doing the bare minimum? Do you have a bad attitude about the work you do, or towards the people closest to you?

Let us keep in mind why we're here and Who we are doing all of this for. Let's move past the "bare minimum," or "Fine! I'll do it, but only because I have to" mindset and d...

Today's episode is really a heart to heart about the real difficulties of forgiving someone who has hurt you. It can be extremely hard when you've been hurt so very deeply. I've been there more times than I like to admit.  Hurt, and especially when there's betrayal, can leave us vulnerable and doubting ourselves in ways that feel completely crushing. Sometimes, forgiveness seems impossible.

But God.

He makes a way. We don't have to...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

There is, in actuality, nothing magical about January 1, and yet, we do feel a sense of newness and renewed hope that we can do better. That we can change and grow and improve our lives somehow. And that is what makes this a great time to start a 100 Day Challenge!

If you've never done one before, let me tell you, this can be a truly life-changing thing, and I don't say that to sound dramatic. I say it because it's ...

It's that time! Time to sit down, think about the coming year, and make some plans. But if you're anything like me, New Year's resolutions just don't work for you. They may be fun to write down and sound great, but only in theory, and that's where they often tend to stay.

As someone who used to be completely unorganized and rather lazy, I can assure you that change is possible for all of us, no matter where we've come from or where...

I get so. super. excited. when I start thinking about the New Year! It's always a time of a clean slate, fresh start kind of feeling and I absolutely love it!

But! Before we rush into that, there are a few things we can do first to help better set ourselves up for a great next year!

I've learned this the hard way and it's taken me many years to finally be able to look back on a year gone by and actually see some of the growth I was...

If we want to truly grow in our walk with God, then, just as in any relationship, we need to put in the effort and invest the time. Sometimes, it's not for a lack of desire that we are not more consistent in our 'quiet times,' but it's more about a lack of strategic or proper planning.

Today, I'm sharing with you some very practical things you can do to eliminate the excuses, the distractions, and the interruptions and really get s...

Are you happy with where you are in life right now? With who you are right now? Are you looking for change but need that 'One Thing' to make it happen? Is it possible that there is that one magical thing to make it all come to fruition? My short answer is "Yes, and."

But what is the key? Is there a secret?

Well, my answer to that is "No, but."

The truth is, it’s relatively simple but not as easy as we'd like. Let's talk about it!

What do you say when someone asks you to tell them about yourself? Do you share the same things you repeat to yourself every day? What do you think about yourself? I mean, what do you truly believe about who you are?

Are your thoughts about yourself good or bad? Truth or lies?

I'd love for you to grab a journal and honestly reflect on your answers to these questions. Then, search the scriptures to see who God is and what He says ab...

There is no doubt that we were made for community and connection. Having friends and, especially, that one close friend to pour your heart out to is truly a gift. But sometimes, we can sabotage the friendship most dear to us without realizing we're doing it.

In today's episode, I'm sharing not as someone who has it all figured out, but rather as someone who has made the mistakes and learned the hard lessons (and continues to learn)...

You want it, right? That closeness with the Lord. To walk in wisdom. To be spiritually minded and walk in step with the Spirit rather than walking in the flesh. But life gets in the way, and so you continue as you were.

But it's like they say, nothing changes if nothing changes.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to learn this one lesson, but I am not exaggerating when I tell you that it changed a lot for me, and I genuinely be...

As believers, we have all that we need for life and godliness. We should, of all people, be living the most abundant lives. But all too often, it seems, Christians are merely coasting along, content to stay where they are.

What if you could do more? Be more? Achieve greater things? Not to gain favor with God or to prove yourself to others, but rather to do the very best in this life that you can, so that you won't leave this world ...

I don't think we were truly prepared for the difficulties and challenges that lay before us at the start of 2020. Who could have anticipated how the world, life as we knew it, was about to change? I still can't fully wrap my mind around it.

But through all the hardship, all the turmoil, and all the disunity, I learned some valuable lessons, and I am a better person for it.

As you listen to this episode, I'd love for you to reflect ...

The world tells us to believe in ourselves, but there’s a much better way to find confidence and the courage you need to do the hard thing!

In this episode, I’m sharing with you a story from the Bible about a woman who had tremendous courage in an extremely difficult situation and the key factors that contributed to her act of bravery, and how you can tap into that same resource.

Mark as Played

Do you ever look for some kind of sign from God for confirmation that He's there? It's not that you don't know He is, but you don't really feel it.

Today, I want to draw your attention to how you can see God in a big way, even when you aren't seeing big miracles or hearing an audible voice from the heavens!

He is close and He wants to be closer still. He's showing Himself to you everyday. Do you see Him?

Mark as Played

What is more damaging to us than comparison? Not much, if you ask me.

Comparison robs us of the gifts that God has given us and keeps us in a place of discontentment. How can we express our own personality or enjoy Gods blessings in our lives when we’re busy wishing we had what someone else has? We can’t!

YOU are here for a reason with your specific gifts and abilities and I want you to believe that!

Mark as Played

Have you ever worried that you would ruin your kids? Yeah, me too.

Raising good, godly children should be the goal for Christian parents. However, when we have unrealistic expectations of ourselves, it can become a burden too heavy to bear.

In today's episode, I am sharing with you the overwhelming guilt I carried with me at every moment of every day as a mom until, one blessed day, I realized that I didn't have to live this way.

Without a doubt, it can be really frustrating when your prayers go unanswered. But do they really? Maybe we're missing the forest for the trees.

What if we take a step back and consider what's really happening. What if all the "silence" is God leading you to something bigger and grander than anything you could've dreamed up for yourself? I think God delights in giving us good things! And don't you think He gets great pleasure in su...
