当今世界正在经历着第三波威权化的回潮，中美两国都深陷其中。本文详述了美国在其选举制度与施政规范上面临的诸多问题、法律规范遭到的侵蚀、公民社会包括媒体面临的问题、政治文化方面尤其是只问立场不问对错、煽动仇恨与暴力的问题，以及美国的威权化对其外交关系与世界格局的影响。这些变化主要发生在川普 2015 年开始竞选美国总统、后就任美国总统、到否认 2020 年的败选结果、现在又继续参选企图再次掌权的近十年期间。美国的威权化发展表明，民主制度的建设并非一劳永逸，需要人们不断地修改、完善、维护与巩固。对比美国和中国的政治发展，我们可以看到威权化的一些共同特点。如何应对这个挑战，是摆在中美两国以及世界其他国家人们面前的难题。
