New Jersey State Climatologist Dr. Dave Robinson as well as Meteorologist Joe Martucci, owner of Cup A Joe Weather and Drone take you through the temperatures, rain, snow, coastal flooding and much more. New episodes come out around the beginning of every month.
New Jersey just went through one of its muggiest stretches in years. Meteorologist Joe Martucci and State Climatologist Dr. John Krasting explain why August felt so humid.
Around August 7, coastal South Jersey saw dew points near 75 degrees around the clock—levels of lasting humidity the state has not experienced in 10 to 15 years.
Did you feel the heat wave in May? 🌞 Here's what happened during those sizzling days! From record-breaking temperatures to the surprising sea breezes, this month was a wild ride for New Jersey’s weather. We hit highs of 100°F in some areas, making it one of the hottest Mays on record. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as humid, which made the heat more bearable. But those unexpected sea breezes? They were Mother Nature’s...
Drought continues for the sixth month in a row in New Jersey, according to the state's Department of Environmental Protection. Now, though, other indicators are showing warning signs of a crippling drought, too. Believe it or not, April was in the top 10 for warmest Aprils since records started in 1895. That's true even though April 21 brought a killing freeze to most of New Jersey only seen once or twice a decade.
After 3 straight months with colder than average temperatures, March winds up not just warm, but in the top 20 warmest going back to 1895! One thing that didn't change was precipitation. The Jersey Shore wound up much drier than average and NJ State Climatologist Dr. Dave Robinson is concerned about wildfire season. Recap the month of weather that was. The Monthly Weather Roundup focused on January's weather patterns, particularly the significant snowstorm and persistent cold. Dave Robinson, New Jersey State Climatologist, discussed the January 25th storm, which brought snow, sleet, and freezing rain across the state, with snowfall totals ranging from 8 to 12 inches in Monmouth County.
He noted that while the storm was impactful, it could have been more severe if not for the cold...

Meteorologist Joe Martucci and NJ State Climatologist Dr. Dave Robinson shared the same August recap and wardrobe choice of a blue polo shirt. Turning to the weather, the two detail Hurricane Erin's coastal devastation with record-high summer tides and erosion.
They noted cooler-than-average temperatures, a chilly month start and end, and severe drought conditions, with North Jersey under a drought for the first time in months. The...
Dave’s upcoming write-up, "Danger Lurks," reflects the month’s fatalistic tone. Dave and Joe discuss New Jersey's turbulent July, marked by extreme heat, flash flooding, and lightning fatalities. Coastal areas saw 5 inches of rain, with Union and Somerset counties facing severe floods, causing most of the 7 storm-related deaths. Warm ocean waters signal potential for stronger tropical storms.
July was the 12th warmest o...

Dr. Dave Robinson, the New Jersey State Climatologist and I talk about New Jersey's March 2025 weather. The drought is getting better, bad drought in the south shrinking, though the northern Highlands and far south are still under significant drought conditions. Speaking of drought, March had no snow. It was warmer than usual—4.2 degrees above normal—making it the 11th warmest March ever, starting cold but ending with s...

November capped off the driest climatological autumn on record in the state, with 3.67" of precipitation between September and November, according to New Jersey State Climatologist Dave Robinson. Those records go back to 1895, also. The next driest was 4.24", too! This year blew out the old mark set back in 1922.
November ended our statewide longest dry streak on record, too. Dave Robinson and I talk about why the recent rain was N...
In the 1,558 months since NJ weather records have been kept (the year 1895), October 2024 was the driest month on record. Dave Robinson, the New Jersey State Climatologist says it absolutely crushed the previous highest mark, set in 1963, also in October.
With New Jersey living in historically dry conditions, the whole state is now in drought for the first time since 1895. The bone-dry weather also meant temperatures records, but n...
