The Room We Wanted

The Room We Wanted

Who you were before you became who you are. The things we loved growing up didn't just entertain us. They helped shape us. The music we listened to, the movies and TV shows we watched, the toys and games we obsessed over, and even the snacks we couldn't get enough of became part of the stories that made us who we are. The Room We Wanted is a nostalgia podcast about those memories, the people we were before adulthood, and the unexpected ways our childhood obsessions still connect to who we've become. Each episode, hosts Brian Colburn and Jay Sweet invite a guest to build the dream room they would have wanted growing up, choosing four things that defined their world: The Sound, The Screen, The Stuff, and The Taste. Through childhood memories, pop culture, music, movies, television, video games, toys, books, and favorite foods, those four choices open the door to something deeper than nostalgia. They reveal the experiences that shaped us, the memories that stayed with us, and the connections between who we were then and who we are today. Because sometimes, the best way to understand who someone is today is to discover who they were before they became who they are.

What do The Temptations, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, guitar pedals and Diet Coke have in common?

For Emily Wolfe, they're four pieces of the childhood that helped shape the artist she would become. The Temptations gave her an early lesson in songwriting, passion and the power of a great hook. Are You Afraid of the Dark? opened the door to horror and the adrenaline she still chases onstage. Guitar pedals became an obsession, a creat...

What do Nine Inch Nails, Goldeneye 007, X-Men Figures & Cinnamon Toast Crunch have in common?

For brothers Alex and Austin Ward of Hembree, they’re four pieces of a childhood spent growing up together in Fort Scott, Kansas, surrounded by music, video games, action figures and the occasional bowl of “vacation cereal.”

Nine Inch Nails takes them back to discovering the band at an impossibly young age, falling down...

What do KISS, Looney Tunes, G.I. Joe & Olive Loaf have in common?

For comedian and rock 'n' roll lifer Don Jamieson, quite a bit.

Don takes us back to the room he wanted, starting with KISS Destroyer, the album that introduced him to a band that was more than music. KISS were rock stars, superheroes and comic book characters all rolled into one, and Don's childhood bedroom eventually became a shrine to the band.

Then there's Loone...

What do Mambo No. 5, Ace Ventura, Pokémon and Warheads have in common?

For Dylan Chambers, they're four pieces of a childhood that helped shape the musician, songwriter, guitarist and producer he is today. It sounds like Lou Bega's "Mambo No. 5." It looks like Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. It means Pokémon cards spread across the table. And it tastes like Warheads.

What starts with an unlikely conversation about "Mambo No...

What do Chris de Burgh, Transformers, Monopoly, Pizza & RC Cola have in common?

For Jason Whissell, host of It's Not That Bad and There Can Only Be One, it sounds like Chris de Burgh's Man on the Line playing on vinyl. It looks like Transformers on the television. It means an old-school Monopoly board spread across the table. And it tastes like Lorenzo's pizza and a 750 ml glass bottle of RC Cola.

What starts with a deep dive int...

The things we loved when we were young were never just things. They were pieces of us.

A record we played until we wore it out. A movie we knew every line to. A toy we couldn't wait to show our friends. A video game we refused to stop playing. And that one snack that can still take us back to another time and place.

The Room We Wanted is a nostalgic podcast about the music, movies, TV shows, video games, toys, food, and obsessions th...

    DISGRACELAND

DISGRACELAND is an award-winning music and true crime podcast about musicians getting away with murder and behaving very badly. Jerry Lee Lewis's 5th wife? Dead. Sid and Nancy? Both dead. Why? Because musicians are insane, and insane things happen to them. Why did we lose Amy Winehouse at 27? Was Debbie Harry really abducted by Ted Bundy as she claims? Is Patti Smith not just the "Godmother of Punk", but also the "Original True Crime Girl"? What really happened the night of the Jay Z nightclub stabbing? What do the Diddy indictments truly reveal? All these stories and more, on artists from every genre and their true crimes, in our massive 260-plus story archive. The Dead, the Stones, Johnny, Willie, Frank, Kurt, Courtney, Gaga, Lana, Taylor, and too many to name. DISGRACELAND is music history come to life through audio storytelling as you've never heard it before, with revealing facts: yes, assassins are the real reason the Beatles quit touring—reclaimed myths: no, Mama Cass didn't die from choking on a ham sandwich––and constant reckoning between art and artist––all told through the lens of true crime. This is the podcast for the self-proclaimed "Disgos", the musically obsessed and the true crime heads; the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best history is the history that gets buried. DISGRACELAND is where host Jake Brennan tells the stories they didn't want told. The kind you'll end up telling someone else. Get ready to uncover hidden truths and buckle up for truly edge-of-your-seat storytelling. New, fully scripted, sound-designed episodes are released every Tuesday. Bonus chat-style episodes where Jake responds to voicemails, texts, and emails from Disgos hit on Thursdays, and "Rewind" episodes from our archive drop on Sundays. DISGRACELAND is not a journalistic podcast. It's an entertainment podcast inspired by true events. Certain dialogue and scenes are dramatized, as is common in scripted entertainment based on real stories. Sources and credits for each episode are available at www.disgracelandpod.com.
