Professor Dave Explains

Welcome! I have a knack for explaining stuff and I want to share some knowledge with you.I received a BA in chemistry from Carleton College, and performed graduate studies in both synthetic organic chemistry and science education at Cal State Northridge, receiving an MA in the latter. Prior to this I taught for about a decade in various high school and undergraduate settings, specializing in organic chemistry but also teaching general chemistry, physics, and biology. This channel is for students at the high school and undergraduate level, but it is also for members of the general public who just want to know more about the world and how things work. My goal is to increase science literacy in our society, so please share these tutorials with anyone that you think might enjoy them. Check out https://www.strawberry.me/professordave to get started with your career coach today! So I went on Piers Morgan recently to explain to Piers how RFK Jr. is a massive fraud who should be yanked from office immediately. I was supposed to debate Bret Weinstein about this, but the little wiener declined. Why do you suppose that might be? Oh right, because he knows he's a lying douchebag, and that I would humiliate him. But he c...

You may have this scary looking upper case sigma before. But don't worry, it just means to add some things up! Once we understand how series work, we can do all kinds of other things. Also, have you ever seen numbers with exclamation points after them? No it, doesn't mean that you shout the number. Those are factorials! We will learn about those in here as well. Lots of good stuff in here!Watch the whole Mathematics playlist: http:...

Alright, so we've decided to learn all of the maths, but where shall we start? Well, let's start at the beginning. The first kind of math we developed was simple arithmetic. We needed this at the dawn of civilization to communicate very simple ideas. Most of us can add small numbers together easily, but is there any more we can say about these operations? Let's find out!Watch the whole Mathematics playlist: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveMa...

Alright, so we've mastered fractions, decimals, and percentages, so let's quickly learn how to convert between them. This is important if you want to do calculations where you apply some percentage to a value, or a million other every day scenarios. Of all the jerks out there peddling anti-vaccine propaganda, the worst offender is Andrew Wakefield. He's been at it for almost 30 years, being the original fraud who started the whole "MMR vaccine causes autism" bullshit in 1998, based on one fraudulent study in the Lancet. Believe it or not, he's still making the rounds. Here we tear apart a conversation he had with Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire. Get ready to be absolutely in...

Today on "What the Fuck is Reality Anymore?" we discuss the White House press conference from Monday in which Trump and RFK Jr. announced that Tylenol is the cause of autism. Tylenol. Autism. I know it sounds crazy, but Trump, Bobby, Jay Bhattacharya, Marty Makary, and Dr. Oz are here to explain all the details! With a crack squad of supergeniuses like this, who totally aren't lying pieces of shit at all, what could go wrong?Autism...

Oh my! There's a big sale at your favorite store! 30% off, in fact! But wait, what does that mean exactly? Percentages are convenient ways of conveying magnitude by comparing some value to one hundred. Why a hundred? Because it's not too big and not too small. In examining third declension nouns, we've covered imparisyllabic nouns and their exceptions. Now let's take a look at the other group, the parisyllabic nouns. These ones have the same number of syllables in their nominative and genitive singular forms. We just learned that we can use place values to represent any number towards the infinitely large, but what about the infinitely small? What about the teeny tiny fractions of one? For that, we need decimal places. Everyone hates math, right? Wrong! I like math. Mathematicians like math, presumably. Physicists like math, usually. People who hate math just don't understand it. But like that weird ethnic food you're scared of trying, or that odd kid in class that doesn't say much, if you come to understand something it's not so scary. In fact, if we can learn enough about math, we will come to love it, because there is so much we can do with it...

Many people watched my video detailing what I would have said to Bret Weinstein the grifting fraud if he had the courage to debate me on Piers Morgan. But so many people asked me to upload my part of the segment as well, so I decided to do that too. So there are a lot of numbers. An infinite number, in fact. So how can we possibly have a symbol for every single possible amount of objects? Well we don't need to, because of place values. With these, we can use just ten symbols and represent every number imaginable. With the cartilaginous fish covered, let's move on to the bony fish, Osteichthyes. This is split up into Actinopterygii and Sarcopterygii. The first of these clades is very large, containing most of the species that we refer to as "fish", so it will take some time to describe. If we want to learn Italian, the first thing we have to do is learn what all the letter combinations sound like! That way when we learn vocabulary, we will know how to pronounce everything. Let's start with the vowel sounds, since those are usually the trickiest.
