We are thanking teachers powered by DONORS CHOOSE by having listeners nominate a deserving public school teacher who we are recognizing on our shows until the end of September 2025.  A few lucky nominated teachers will have the chance to win five grand to use for classroom supplies!  We KNOW how much so many teachers shell out of their own pockets to make sure no student of theirs goes without the necessary tools for learning!  SO, nominate YOUR favorite teacher in a beautiful way by thanking them!  Go To iheartradio.com/teacher to nominate and give them a chance at the five grand for their class!
Billy & Judi had a chance to chat with one of the nominated teachers, Michelle Wareing of Kratz Elementary School.  Take a listen to her heartfelt and tearful reaction to being nomnated and what the person who nominated her had to say:
"This was my kindergarten teacher, I am 22 and in college and this woman was so amazing to me I will never forget her name. I had so much happening at home as a kid and she was a truly amazing human!"
Again, thanks to Donors Choose and iHeartRadio for spotlighting and celebrating the teachers that change lives!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome our latest nomination. You know, we're thanking teachers leading
all the way up to the start of school, along
with donors choose, and we just happened to have Michelle
with us our latest nominee.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hello, Michelle, Hi, congratulations on being nominated. Michelle Kraft's Elementary school.
Where is that exactly?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
It's in Edmondson, right by the airport.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Oh that's nicey bet. Are you ready for school to start? Sure,
it's so funny. So Judy's kids are out of school.
I have two who are still in school, and my
wife and I were just talking about how we're trying
to get them sort of calmed down before the beginning
of school. And we were talking to some other teachers
who said, we have to do the same thing for

(00:40):
ourselves because we also have to get mentally prepared.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Is that right, Yes, yes, you do. You just like
I know, I head back in the classroom next week
to set it all up, and you just get yourself
ready to put your mind back on all the families,
all the kids, and what you got to do.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
My son is now a teacher in Boston, a public
school teacher. Oh he loves it. But I see the
out of money that he spent his own to get supplies.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, is this true, Michelle. Do you guys digging into
your own pockets to buy stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah? You do.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
I mean you kind of want to. But I've done
donors choose things before, and I've been teaching. This will
be my twenty fourth year, so over the years, you
can collect some a few good things.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
It's gonna be hard for My wife was the She
was on the PTO, and so a lot of times
we go up to the school for like you know,
like book drives or whatever. And I found myself constantly
seeing kids who didn't have and so you're constantly pulling
more money out of your pocket. I know exactly what
that feels like when you don't want to see any
kid left behind me. Oh that, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah. Now, I don't know if you know exactly what
the person who dominated said. We don't know who the
person is that they said. And this was beautiful. This
was by kindergarten teacher. I am twenty two and in
college and this woman was so amazing to me. I'll
never forget her name. I had so much happening at
home as a kid, and she was an amazing human

(02:05):
Oh oh, you don't get a chance.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
To hear that often.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
So you're obviously in the nomination nominated now for the
five thousand bucks. You'd take that money and you'd use
it for what what do you do with that money?

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Oh my gosh, I've been real into STEM for some
of my kids. In the morning, I still teach kindergarten.
And then this year just kind of I've got a
whole new team of kindergarten teachers coming in so things
to support our school and our building, probably for our
playground or something.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I just there's always good things.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, this your response being choked up chokes me up,
and it makes it makes me happy to know that
all this hard work, all these years, you are recognized
and you're appreciated.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Yeah, I mean you don't as a kindergarten teacher, you
don't get to hear it very I mean, as a
teacher you don't. But as a kindergarten they often are
well grown and you're lucky if you can, you know, hear.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Back from them as an adult. So it's it's pretty amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Well, I don't do we know when the drawings will
be are they do the like weekly leading up to
school right, yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Do believe so through September. So Figer's crossed. And again
to whoever nominated you, thank you for the nomination and congratulations.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
By the way, a link down in the comments section below.
If you know of a teacher who has gone above
and beyond, just like Michelle, make sure you nominate them
and then, along with donors Chews, hopefully we'll get them
five thousand bucks for their classroom. Best of luck with
the new school year.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
By the way, thank you.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
I have one last thing I have to ask you,
because every kid goes through this when they see a
teacher out in the real world. What do you What
should they do?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
What do we call you? Do you still say mister
or missus? What do you do with that?

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yeah? Miss still missus?

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Where you know you still use your last name for me?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
If they're an adult, I usually have to say who
are you? Because they look very different from when they
were talking. But you know, I love it.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Well.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Congratulations again, just keep doing what you're doing, all right

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Thank you, Thank you so much,
