Speaker 1 (00:14):
Its to make life.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Easier new technology. So Michael Garfield has something.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
You might like.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Michael Garfield is your high tech Texan. Three decades helping
you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the
iHeartRadio app. Now your high tech Texan Michael Garfield.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Mid October high tech text and show begins right now
wherever you are. I don't care how you're listening via
terrestrially over that a M radio dial or you downloaded
the high Tech iHeartRadio app. This is how we have
fun on the weekends. Appreciate you tuning in twenty three
we have been doing this. Happy football still hot in

(01:04):
the state of Texas. Please payball. Come on, let's get
this thing rolling. We need holiday season, especially since I'm
pretty much starting to talk about some of the holiday
gift guides ideas. Taking your questions and calls, Michael, what's
the best product that I should be getting or is
there any deals coming up? See that's what I do.
I am your consumer lifestyle technology, automobile travel, bourbon, vodka,

(01:30):
tequila spirits. Guy, I know, I know a little about
a lot, which I think is a better than a
lot about a little. But that's what you get with me.
Let me tell you how to get into the radio show.
It's a radio show initially, then it becomes a podcast.
So we kind of hit both generations three four six
twenty nine Texan three four six to nine eight three

(01:51):
nine two six. What's up Houston, KPRC nine fifty am,
Hello San Antonio on WOAI twelve hundred, the big Powerhouse.
And then up in Big d my hometown talk radio
eleven ninety. All right, what have we got this week? Well,
we've got two heritage technology product brands that have retired

(02:17):
itself from use pretty much it is no longer they
are both no longer available, and we're gonna sit shiva,
as we say, and remember these true products while we
reminisce of what are some of the better products, better services,
better things in life that are no longer around. And

(02:38):
if you think about one of these, and I'll tell
you what it is, give me about a minute a half,
two minutes. And it's kind of sad because this was
a leader in one of those aspects, but they're gone
right now. That's a big week with that. On the
other hand, I welcome then some of the newest technology
there is when you're flying. If you did not follow,
If you do not follow my online presence certainly on

(03:00):
x and Instagram, High Tech Texan Hi g h T
E C h T E x A N unless you're block,
you saw what I got to do this past week.
I got to be one of the very first people
in the world, is certainly from the technology journalistic aspect,
to test out the brand new high speed Starlink in

(03:22):
air Internet service on United Airlines as they rolled it
out to consumers earlier this week. I got to test
it a day early. Was pretty cool. I'll give you
the whole play by play of how I got to
take off from a United plane in Chicago and pretty
much circle the Midwest for like two hours while doing
live video chats and downloading and streaming on as many

(03:45):
devices as I could. I will give you my thoughts
on is this a game changer and the shocking news
of how much this new service is going to cost.
We'll do that in segment number two, So don't go anywhere.
Plus also some other reviews of some neat things that
I am now allowed to talk about. I teased it

(04:06):
last week, but the new rog Xbox ally and the
ally X, the handheld gaming device from Asus partnered up
with Microsoft in it's Xbox. I now can talk about
it since that embargo has left. I've been using and
playing with that since I got back from New York
about a week and a half ago. And also a
new dashcam too, a new dash cam. Dash cams are

(04:27):
actually pretty smart. They can help document in either real
time or post time, where you're going, what is happening
inside your car outside your car. Certainly can help with
insurance and keep you safe for in many aspects. I
got to play with a new one. Plus your emails
Michael at high Tech text in dot com, and also

(04:48):
your calls. I'll start with this, the two products in
services that saw their end this week kind of sad.
One is a piece of hardware. One is a software.
Let's start with a hardware, because this is where I
kind of want to have a little interactivity here. Who
had TiVo? Do you remember what TiVo was? TiVo one of,

(05:14):
if not the original digital video recording boxes came out
what a dozen and a half years ago, and it
revolutionized how people watch television. Actually, I apologize it came
out twenty six years ago. Twenty six years ago. Evo

(05:35):
let us record things, record shows, customize their program guy
to see the channels that they care for, skip commercials,
much to the disdain of advertisers and network TV. EVO
it became a verb. People used to say, hey, I
TVO to show we knew what they were talking about

(05:58):
they recorded or not. Evo stop selling it's physical DVR
products earlier this month, including the hardware and accessories. Company
says it's remaining inventory. It's not depleted. Customer. They're still
going to continue to see if report support. That's key
if you still have a TVO. But the legacy that

(06:22):
that TiVo wrought nowadays is shifted to things that we're
so used to. If you have cable TV, you have Xfinity,
if you're if you're in some of the markets that
have ex Finity, it's got a built in DVR, the
digital video recorder. Listen, we can go back and I
can say, hey, kids, pull up a pull up a chair.
We're gonna go back in time and I'm going to

(06:42):
talk about what VHS VCRs were I'm not gonna do
that because this is digital. This brought in that revolution.
Listen it. It became famous. I mean I remember Sex
in the City, Uh that utilized it. I think that
was was at Samantha's at her name was at her
best date date nights she would sit home with or
I remember Kurby Your Enthusiasm. Larry David was more concerned about,

(07:05):
you know, fixing the TIVA than he was about talking
to his wife or something. It's interesting. I remember one
of my favorite funniest movies around, Tropic Thunder. Tropic Thunder
Matthew McConaughey. He was the agent to ben'sa the agent
to Ben Stiller in Hollywood, and all he wanted to
do in his contract was get his client a tevo.

(07:25):
And they're gone. We're not sad that they're actually gone,
because we have things that replace it. We can digitally
video record on our phones if we wanted to. So
I'll say with this as we take our first break, here,
name some products that you were sorry and sad to

(07:45):
say goodbye to. Maybe they were replaced by something else,
but what do you still miss? I will say this.
I was on X Twitter and one of the dudes
that I love following. His name is Jimmy Train, I
writes for Sports Illustrated. He said on TVO, quote it
was one of the top five inventions of all time

(08:07):
when it came out, unquote. I can't argue with that.
I can tell you some of my favorite aventions, which
we'll talk about later in the show, from the BlackBerry
to the sling box, which still I miss and I
shed it here for but you tell me some of
the best products that you hate see and go. When
we come back, I'll tell you about the other product

(08:28):
that saw us demize, and also my update. High speed
Wi Fi in the air is here. If you're a
United Airlines fan. My name is Michael Garfield. Phone number
three four six twenty nine text and we will be
back up top. We is back. It is called the

(08:50):
High Tech text in the show. You know, we talk
so much more about technology, So don't turn it off
if you think we're all geeky stuff like that. Now
I put the I make tech sexy people. That's how
it works. Michael Garfield is the name appreciate turning in
tuning in three four six two nine eight three nine
two six If for some reason, nobody picks up and

(09:10):
you get a voicemail. Leave a voicemail, then we can
play it on the air. I think, well, we're gonna
have a few of those throughout the week. People call
and leave messages and why inso some interesting questions following
up for that first segment, EVO, I'm gonna call it
TVOVA it is it? Remember TVO nineteen ninety nine that
really changed the way that we watch television because we

(09:34):
actually could time shift things. It was the VHS on
steroids digitally. It would download the program guide, you had
the remote control, you could speed it, fast forward commercials.
I mean, it really was a game changer. TVO just
announced pretty much that it stops selling all its products.
So that's done. So that that's actually one of two

(09:55):
big products, if you will, that have ended it it's
life this past week, the other one being kiss it Goodbye.
Microsoft has ended support for its Windows ten operating system,
meaning all Windows ten PCs. They've reached their end of life.

(10:19):
They literally call this end of life. It's a term
when it comes a lot of it when it comes
to software. That's kind of it's an interesting term, but
it's it's it's a kiss of death. Maybe it's there
to scare you, maybe it's there to give you that
upsell like, well, it's end of life, you better get
to Windows eleven. What that means is this, there will

(10:41):
be no further major updates for that particular operating system
after being on the market for a decade. However, I
am here to give you all the Windows ten end
of life points to steer you in the right direction.
It was earlier this week Microsoft rolled out it's final
Windows ten update and so as of now, Microsoft will

(11:03):
no longer offer free software updates, security patches, technical assistant
from Windows Update for that older operating system, and yes,
breaking those they're encouraging users to upgrade to Windows eleven.
But this is what I'm here for. There are actions
you can actually take, yes questions. You can still use

(11:26):
your Windows ten PC now, but you're not gonna get
any more updates. So it is at risk of becoming
vulnerable to malware viruses, cyber threats and more. But there's
something you can sign up for. It's called Microsoft's Extended
Security Updates Program, and it can get you an extra

(11:47):
year of security support, which is pretty much until mid
October of twenty twenty six. You can actually roll in
the program right now. Don't feel shocked. We've been talking
about this. Microsoft has been talking about this for a while.
Windows eleven has been out quite a while. Every PC
that I use, every laptop that I use, has Windows eleven.

(12:08):
It's not much different than Windows ten. It's not that
big of a deal. It's it is surprising to me.
How do I want to say how few people have
upgraded to Windows eleven versus what I thought? I think
forty one percent of PCs of people who are using
Microsoft still use Windows ten. Come on, man, now, listen.
I understand that some PCs are so old you can't

(12:32):
upgrade to Windows eleven. And I'm not here to tell
you go get a new PC, but you really may
want to go get a new PC or new laptop
because if it's been ten years since you have it,
it's amazing how the speed the service that technology has escalated.
It in desktops, all in one's laptops, tablets and everything.

(12:55):
So there are risks for staying on Windows ten. Again,
you won't receive any updates, and that you're vulnerable to malware,
and then there's data breaches and everything But what you
can do now it's you're not gonna be left in
the dust. Number one. Back up. If you're gonna stay

(13:18):
on Windows ten and just go, I'm gonna fight the
good fight. Back up your important files. Move the files
you want to keep on to an external drive. Maybe
it's a cloud storage service, maybe it's one drive, Google Driver,
drop Box. All right, and number one, do that because
if for some reason there's a vulnerability, you don't want
that to go bye bye. There are budget friendly listen.

(13:40):
I'm more than happy to tell you some budget friendly
I'm a big laptop a sus a s us I've
been playing with more and more of their laptops. They've
got good prices. You're gonna see some good prices on
p season laptops coming out here over the next two
and a half months or so for the holiday season.
But one of the things that you know do that
extra year, make sure your PC is up to date.

(14:01):
Make sure you're using an administrator account. Verify if your
PC is eligible. To upgrade to Windows because it's free.
Go to your settings if you see an option to
upgrade to Windows eleven, would you just do that? It's free,
It keeps you in the Windows loop. If you don't
want to do that, fine, screw it. We're going to

(14:24):
enroll in those extended security updates. So again two things,
it's not as sad like TVO by going away. We
actually we can actually have another poll. What was your
favorite Microsoft Windows version? Was it in Windows Millennium Windows, Emmy?
Was it the original Windows with the rolling stone start

(14:47):
me up? When they announced the start button? Josh Man,
I remember going to the store and you had to
buy physically buy a CD ROM with the new Windows
operating system. And I used to work for Microsoft, and
Microsoft would try to make it a big deal. They

(15:09):
work with Best Buys, a lot of these other real
CompUSA and micro Center, all these other retails back at that,
and they would have launch parties like at midnight. I
mean kind of like you know when Nintendo's coming out
or a new video game. I mean, it's a freaking
operating system geeks. What I remember, h M seeing and
hosting something in Houston from I was, I had to forget

(15:30):
which version of Microsoft when it was? During there was
no when was it now? I was they wasn't the
Gulf War there was a war going on or something
like there was some conflict or something, but it was
at the Astro Hall NRG Paul whatever. I think it
was still called astrohol back of the day. And there
were thousands of people and they were standing in line,

(15:50):
and I was just becoming the high tech textan and
people were like, free, Oh, let's we're gonna hire the
high tech textan to do this big rollout. And I
don't even know what we talked about. I'm like, it's
an operating system, but whatever, so do it. Nowadays you
could download the thing. But you know, this is how
quickly we've become. Phone numbers three, four, six, twenty nine texted,
I'm getting ready to I want to talk about my
United Airlines the flight using Starlink Wi Fi service. I

(16:13):
only I got about a minute and a half to go,
so I may just kind of kill time before then.
I'll absolutely spend the entire next segment talking about that.
So I'm sorry if you're logging in for that, but
I'm getting some emails over here. Michael, you say BlackBerry
and sling Box were your favorite Vengion's ever. I didn't
say they were my favorite Avengis ever. I think peanut
butter probably could be the greatest divsion ever, which then

(16:34):
transformed into Reese's Peanut Butter Cups obviously, and there's the
tie in with Halloween. Yeah. I love the BlackBerry. BlackBerry. Listen.
I've had a smart I smartphone. I had a cell
phone since nineteen ninety one. It was a bag phone.
It was a bag phone. Just go Google bag phone.
It was there was a big phone you had to carry,
you know, it was a get carried it in a bag.

(16:56):
And then I had the portable phone. Then they became smartphones.
Actually they weren't even smart. BlackBerry came along in the
mid to late nineties, and the fact is that it
had a keyboard. It was not just a phone. It
was not just a phone that had the t N
I that you know, you had to individually type the case.
It had a freaking keyboard and you could get your
emails and you can respond remotely. BlackBerry change the game

(17:18):
just as much, I think as the Apple iPhone did
when that came out in two thousand and seven. I
love the BlackBerry. I missed the BlackBerry too. The other
thing I mentioned was the sling box. The sling box
was a device that it was a hardware piece of
device that you hooked up to your television and your internet,
and what it allows you to do. It allowed you
to leave your home. It allowed to leave your home

(17:40):
and then through an app, log in anywhere in the
world and watch your home TV. If you were in
a doctor's office waiting, if you were at your parents'
house visiting somewhere, if you're in an airport, you could
actually watch your home TV. There was sneaky things I
used to do. Like you know, I live in Houston,
my parents live in Dallas where I grew up. Obviously
I'm a cow Boys fans. So what I did is

(18:01):
I remember getting in Obviously I want to watch the
Cowboys games. Well, if you're in Houston back in the day,
you really couldn't watch Cowboys games, at least not on
a weekly basis, depending on what was on. So I
got my parents a sling box and I had their
pass code, so I was anywhere in the world. I
was watching the Dallas TV and I could watch what
I want. There were so many ways to use that.

(18:22):
It was I used the term time shifting TVO, which
brings up the entire topic. TiVo just retired. TVO is
no longer it killed it. This no longer selling devices
as of a few weeks ago. Tvo was time shifting.
You could shift the times you're watching things because you
recorded things digitally. Sling Box was place shifting. You didn't

(18:43):
need to be at your home TV. You could watch
TV in any given place. To me, sling Box easily
to this, Michael, what's your top five inventions of all
time technology? Sling Box is in there. It's no longer
there because we could do these things with apps right now.
But I'd absolutely love love that sling box. Thoughts on
that three four nine textan when I come back. I

(19:04):
got to fly on the very first United Airlines flight
earlier this week equipped with Starlink. That's right Elon Musk
SpaceX company with all of its high speed low Earth
orbiting satellites. I got to test it out. I will
give you my review. What can you do up in
the air? And the shocking announcement in news of how

(19:25):
much this service will cost as it's rolled out to
other flights to consumers this past week. Michael's my name
high tech texting show. You're just tuning in number one
where you've been for thirty minutes. We're halfway through the
first hour of the High Tech Texan Show. Your host
that has beat Michael Garfield, been doing this for twenty

(19:46):
three years, happy mid October. What have we got here?
Obviously we always talk about the college football and the
pro football games. I'm a big college guy. Should you
be listening Saturday right now? Wherever you are? Should you
be in the Houston area. I highly recommend if you're
a UT Longhorn fan like myself, Patterson Park is the
place to be. Patterson Park great, huge sports bar, not

(20:08):
far from the Heights, downtown Houston. Six o'clock PM, Saturday
night kickoff UT versus Kentucky. Maybe the first time ever,
I think obviously in the SEC they just joined that
Texas has played Kentucky or went to Kentucky. If it
was a long time ago, maybe before my time. Twenty
two to five Patterson Street, so it's pretty much an

(20:29):
iten in Shepherd and next to Shepherd there's Patterson and
it's twenty two o five. Go watch that. I probably
will be there for some of the game. Forty plus
TVs three levels, indoor, outdoor, top level. You could bring
cigars and hang out, got some food trucks out there
great cocktail specials, and so why don't you go see
what's up? So hook them horns people, I don't know,
Texas ou turned out quite well last week when I

(20:51):
was doing my show from there. That was pretty funny.
Biggest frustration when you're traveling in the air, what is it?

Speaker 1 (21:00):
There's it?

Speaker 3 (21:02):
If you complain about Wi Fi, You've got first world problems. Right,
I've been flying for well over fifty years of my life.
I mean number one. Nowadays, when we're flying, we are
lucky potentially to I don't know, get a snack, and
in many places you have to pay for the snack.

(21:22):
But that's neither here nor there. Wi Fi came along
in the air, what eight nine, ten years ago. Most
every yearline has Wi Fi to keep us connected in
the air. Not the fastest, not the most reliable, but
you know, anywhere from eight dollars nine dollars ten dollars
per flight, generally you're gonna be able to access the

(21:44):
Internet to some extent, maybe download some email. Nothing too fast.
Because Wi Fi in the air used satellites that were
in geosynchronous orbit twenty two thousand, twenty four thousand miles
above the Earth just floating out there. There was a

(22:05):
lot of latency, meaning the signal had to bounce from
the airplane all the way up into that stratosphere and
then all the way down, so nothing was really available
in real time. Now there are airlines like Southwest Airlines
who offered their frequent frequent flyers free internet service. Nice
to meet you. My name is Michael. Yes, I'm an

(22:26):
a less preferred on Southwest, and it's nice not being
able to pay, not having to pay eight dollars or so. Still,
you know, my hands are tied in terms of what
I can download what I can't do. I mean, it's
not like replicating that you know, I'm in my office
on Earth with high speed internet. Well that is changed
right now thanks to technology and really thanks to Starlink,
which by the way is a portion is a part

(22:47):
of SpaceX, which is a part of the Texas based
Elon Musk Empire. So we like that Starlink right now.
Not only is it internet service that you actually can
get for your home or your business which is very
high speed, gives you an option other than the high
speed you know from Exfinity, Comcast or whatever you're using. Really,
but airplanes now are now starting to install Starlink service

(23:10):
for high speed in flight Wi Fi, and this past
week I had the wonderful and honored opportunity to fly
on United Airlines last Tuesday, the very first I'm not
gonna say the first because I'm sure they tested and
tested and tested it, but this was the first media
opportunity where they took a handful of select media journalists

(23:34):
infloorcer's up in an airplane for two hours to let
us test the Starlink WiFi high speed service the day
before its first mainline jet rolled it out. It is
officially rolled out. The very first flight was Wednesday on
a flight from Newark, New Jersey to Houston. What's up?

(23:57):
So if anybody has used this in the past few days,
let me know. I'm at three four six twenty nine
textan do not call me from the air because you're legally,
federally not allowed to do that, which I will get to.
It was pretty cool. I hopped up to Chicago and
then it was like a super secret flight, and then
I had to check in over here. Then I had,

(24:17):
I mean, I'm tsa sort of oh no, I had
to actually take all my gear, so I packed laptops tablets,
sell phones. I'm bringing all these devices because my job
what I wanted to do, and I did doing some
TV stories and if you followed me on Instagram, I
did some fun Instagram post Already high tech Texan is
some post on does this thing work? Is it fast?

(24:38):
Why is it out there? What can you do? What
can't you do? We take off from Chicago, oh here,
and it was a trip to nowhere really, So we
circled around the Midwest kind of up towards Milwaukee and
over the Great Legs and all this stuff for two hours,
along with some executives from United and I got to
meet like the head of Theirustomer service. I got to

(25:01):
meet the CEO of their mileage PRUSS program. That's pretty cool.
I mean, when't cool? I mean he didn't give me
one case status, but I'm still working on that. But
it was neat getting some interviews and talking with them.
But I had a whole road to myself. And sure enough,
the second I got on the plane, it hit this
is door to door service all right, before you even

(25:22):
get Sometimes it's until you reach ten thousand feet you
can't turn on your Internet. Now you can, and it
goes all the way until you land, until you get
off the plane. I love that fact. So if you're
a Mileage Plus member, I'm gonna lead. I'm gonna bury
the lead right now. Mileage Plus, which is a frequent
their frequent flyer service, their membership program. If you are

(25:43):
a member of their frequent Flyer program, Mileage Plus, this
new high speed Wi Fi service is the low low
lit goo price of free. Wait what did he just say? Yep,
there is no charge for this. There's not only no
charge for it. It's all you can eat devices, bring

(26:06):
your own device. I brought six plus devices, all logged in.
I'm streaming, I'm talking, I'm chatting. Incredible. Why is it free? Well,
good question. It's a perk for frequent flyers. It's a
perk fly United. Wait a minute, I don't need to
pay eight dollars and I get high speed internet to

(26:26):
actually replicate the speed It almost that I'm getting down
on Earth. Pretty cool. So let's go back. I'm flying around.
I turned the tablet on, I turned the laptop on.
I'm turned it and so they warned us it actually,
well it's not warned. They told us it is against
federal law. Federal law prohibits video and voice calls in

(26:47):
the air, So don't think you could go start flying
around United or any other airlines offered this and sit
her to have video chats and have you know, Microsoft
team meetings and all this other stuff while you're yelling
to your labor and next door. Uh huh. However, we
had Clarence Clarence from United because this was a special
flight that they let us do anything we wanted. So yes,

(27:09):
I did zoom Microsoft teams and video calls. I dialed
up one of my kids down on the ground in
Austin and I had a video chat. I was looking
at him, he was looking at me. I'm doing the
latency test. I'm waving. I'm counting one, two, three, four, five,
six eight. He didn't even know where I was. He

(27:30):
might he may have thought I was just in my home,
no issue whatsoever. Pretty amazing. I hit download speeds I
was doing speed test. Download speeds approached two hundred and
fifty megabits per second. Okay, I did a previous test
a week ago on another flight. I think I got

(27:51):
twenty to twenty five, maybe thirty megabits per second. This
is ten times as fast it peaked at in press.
So it's got movies you can download. There's a number
of things. So pretty much at the end of the day.
My oldest son who used it, he actually flew on
Hawaii Airlines. Hawaiian Airlines has actually had this fry. I

(28:12):
guess a little bit. My son used it about three
weeks ago. He saw that I was flying around the
air and he goes, he tried it a few weeks
ago on another this other airline, and he's he called it,
quote unquote, a game changer. There are a few things
in my career that I say that are game changers.
I mean, I could talk about going back from like
I I mentioned earlier, the BlackBerry. BlackBerry was a game changer,

(28:33):
from regular cell phones, the sling box, the TiVo, the
Apple iPhone. I mean, there were fews game changer. I'm
gonna agree somewhat with my oldest son when he said
it's a game changer. I think it's a game changer
because number one, it's free, all right, So this is
just like you're gonna get a water, you're gonna get
your coke zero, like I guess, I mean, soft drinks

(28:54):
are pretty much free of that. This is free it's
a game changer now because you just don't have to
use one device. You can use two, three, four to
five devices, You share passwords, you don't have to do
any this stuff. But it's a game changer because it
is pretty smoking fast. It's speedy. You now can travel
even outside of the contigue was in the United States

(29:15):
because it's satellites up in the air and then there's snots.
Let's go back to the satellites. Remember I told you
the latency that used to be from the geosynchronous orbits
satellites that are twenty four thousand miles above Earth. These
use Starlink's Low Earth Orbiting satellites l EO LEO Low
Earth Orbiting. These satellites are closer to the Earth, which

(29:37):
means the signals don't have to bounce up and down
nearly that high. So the latency meaning if I said one,
my son will say two. We go three, four, five six.
While we're video chatting, shot the whole video. You can
see this. Go to my Instagram account. Next week I'm
gonna air if you're in Austin, it'll be on Fox seven.
I'll put it on my YouTube thing. So really cool,

(29:57):
I really want to appreciate. I'll be Aubrey the PR
team of United really neat people. It's unbelievable the times
that we're living in. All right, yes, is there there's
going to be questions and issues. Well, how come I
can use video chat? How come I can't do this?
That's neither for me to talk about. That's whatever. Every
airline is going to make up something or you know,
maybe the FAA has got rules. I'm here to talk

(30:19):
about the tech and the consumer lifestyle point of it.
It's pretty freaking cool that a plane can go five
hundred and six hundred miles per hour. And by the way,
you're still connected at super high speed to pretend like
you're also down on Earth in your in your office.
That's how I do it. I'm the high Tech Texan.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Fly the friendly skies. Michael Garfield, high tech, text and
hurt all around the world, even above the world in
the air. If you download the iHeartRadio app, which I
think is legal, find anyway, don't go anywhere. We'll be
back this porch of the High Tech Texan Show with me,
Michael Garfield. Brought to you by us Coin and Jewelry.

(31:01):
Have you seen the price of gold four thousand dollars
and now it's when I started working with these guys
a year and a half or so ago. Kenny Duncan,
he and his brother Matthew. You know, they've run it
second generation.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
You know.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
Kenny was like, buy gold, buy gold by gold. It
was like fifteen hundred maybe it was twelve hundred dollars.
I'm like, okay, I'm thinking about it. They are so
smart over there, and I'm an idiot. I did not
listen to them. It's now four thousand dollars. And you
know what, right now, go into either your jewelry box,
your parents, your grandparents' jewelybox. They got gold that they're

(31:34):
not using. Now's the time to sell it. US Coins
and Jewelry absolutely the place to do it. Eighty four
to thirty five Katie Freeway. That's just outside of Sloop
six' ten on The Katie. Freeway if you're In, houston
if you're listening around the state and you're not In,
houston trust these. People they work On they do it online,
TOO us coins and jewelry dot com or just google.

(31:55):
Them that's, ay buy and sell, gold, gold, bullion and
of course coins they're CALLED us coins and jey they
buy and sell gold. Coins there probably is not a more,
sophisticated just new mismatist that's coins collectors Than Kenny Duncan.
Jr he just he can look at something and just

(32:17):
pop pop and just you, know give you the price
and tell you what's. Up you, know things That i've.
Learned you, know if you want, silver you, know and you,
know look find find some silver quarters or, things you,
know nineteen sixty. FIVE i believe or earlier that they'll
be worth. More you bring your coins, in you can watch,
them look at, them evaluate. Them they're gonna make you
a price right. Now they'll cut you a. Check they.
Are they are the most trusted buyers when it comes

(32:39):
to golden coins out. There, yes they also have. JEWELRY i,
mean LIKE i, said, LISTEN i go in there AND
i just look at all The rolex, watches look at,
them And i'm just sitting, there you, know oh my,
god and they're teaching. ME i didn't know a thing
About rolex watches other than the fact that they generally
are a little higher price THAN timex. Watches but they're. Gorgeous.
Man there's so many variants and every you know talk

(33:01):
to will talk To. Matthew, also he's really the mister
watch guy. There they could just tell you the history of. Him,
yes you can go in and you can get some.
Rolexes they got women's, jewelry men's. Jewelry perfect time of
year as we are getting into the holiday. Season early next,
year they could open up a brand new. Showroom i'm
gonna be there to help open that thing. Up but they,
are they're top. Notch folks continue to talk about him
on a weekly basis and go in and use my,

(33:22):
name just say, hey, Yo Michael. Garfield don't just go in,
Again Michael. Garfield there's Another michael who's too pimps him.
Too i'm the Real. Michael that's how it works At
Garf Garf, garf and SO i appreciate their partnership here
on the long Running Garf High tech textan show all
across the state right, Now so we do thank you
for tuning. In talked about holiday? Shopping do you do any?

(33:45):
How who do you? Do holiday shopping At? Walmart And
i'm not making fun Of, walmart BECAUSE i really do Like.
WALMART i do shop At. WALMART i MEAN i live
not far from a Super, walmart And i'll go. THERE i,
mean not so much for. GROCERIES i got a pretty
they got some good decent prices on. Groceries, actually what
DO i go To walmart for home and garden? Stuff,

(34:06):
like IF i need a, Hose i'll probably go there
over you, know home depow er lows just just some
other knickknacks or in. Whatever you. Know they got electronics.
There and, also AND i say this is Because walmart
is is quickly listen there Aren't are they the world's
largest retail retailer. STORE i, MEAN i, MEAN i Know

(34:26):
amazon's out, there but in actual physical, retail they they're they're.
Massive but also got to get them some props BECAUSE
i saw.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
This they.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Are they're really diving into the world OF, ai artificial.
Intelligence they apparently they just did a partnership with open
A OPEN ai And CHAT. Gpt it's the same company
they're gonna. Use they're gonna let CHAT gpt live things
if you ask for it directly through Through. Walmart it's

(34:55):
called instant. Checkout it's a feature on CHAT. Gpt if
you're in a conversation with this with THE ai powered
Bought CHAT. Gpt it's gonna let you Browse walmart's offerings
and complete the purchases from within that. App they analysis
last month and now it's it's, there so YOU i,

(35:16):
mean it works like. THIS i Guess i'm just imagining.
This so you go to CHAT gpt and you could, ask,
like what's the best mattress undred thousand? Dollars, uh give
me a gift for an avid, reader and then they're
going to suggest some products within that chat without having
to navigate outside that. App pretty, smart it really. Is

(35:37):
more and more people are using CHAT. Gpt why not?
Companies AND i Mean walmart is saying that this move
is really a push beyond the traditional e commerce search
tools that retrieve products just based on consumer. Request so
if anybody's tried, this you, know let me. Know i'd
love to hear. It but you, Know amazon is they're

(36:00):
trying to do it, too where bots replace. Humans you,
KNOW i think they got they got something Called buy For,
me which is a feature in The Amazon shopping, app
and shoppers can buy goods from vendors that sell products
that aren't even available On amazon Dot com without leaving
The amazon. Website but you, know you, KNOW i mean
get ready for things like, this uh, CHAT gpt and

(36:21):
actually OPEN. Ai they just launched another app that came
up about a week or two ago Called sora to
S o R. A NOW i haven't downloaded it because
it's only For. iPhone, YES i have An, android so
IT'S i, Know i'm sucking it. Up it's coming From
android very. Soon it is mind blowing in terms OF

(36:42):
ai videos of what you. Create so my, son my young,
son the influenced sports influencer on on TikTok And, instagram
he has Been i've been seeing some of the videos
he's been, making and like he has been used that
scanned your face, apparently and it puts your face in
almost anything you wanted. To SO i think his face
was wearing AN nfl uniform of an athlete who was

(37:06):
carried off the field on a stretcher doing something he.
Was it Was it's crazy And i'm thinking, BEFOREHAND i,
mean you would have had to do video editing and
photoshop and all this other. Stuff now all you do
is you give a. Prompt in this particular, one it
is so realistic AND i believe it's free. Too AND
i even if you have an iPhone and you. DOWNLOADED

(37:26):
i think you have to have a special. Invite, god
that's What google used to do back in The New
year to actually use the. THING i don't have any,
invites but as soon as it's available For, android my
son's gonna give you the, invite which Means i'm gonna
get six, invites and then we can have a contest
of who wants one of my. Invites but this is
the world we are living. In get used to. IT
i don't use, chat chpt or any of these you,
know AGENT ai things about as much AS i. Can

(37:50):
i'm not saying you, should but they are getting pretty pretty.
Smart not afraid of. Them but such is the way to.
Life we're gonna talk about this next, hour including also
some other. THINGS i got Some i'm gonna what are your?

too much technology wizmo gizmo. Stuff, HOWEVER i had some

(39:49):
good stories last. HOUR i got to try Out United
airlines New starlink high Speed Wi fi service earlier this

anything away. Yet we may do that up and coming
phone number if you want to say, hi ask. Questions

(40:51):
holiday shopping, season getting ready to get underway three four
six two nine eight three nine two. Six speaking of shop,
Season i'm getting a lot of Quite you, know it's
fun because WHEN i recommend or review, something people maybe
hear the tail end of. It sometimes they forget the
name of the. Product some it's just you never know

(41:13):
what's going. On AND i got a few emails this, Week,
Michael i'm still you said something about a security cam
cameras and it's simple to set, up and it's you,
know It's Wi fi connected and it's, yeah security cameras
at home around your. Home they're so simple to, do
they're so simple to put. Up and the ONE i

(41:35):
Think i've been talking about That i've been playing with
from a company Called Reo LINK R E O L
i N. K and if you were in certain cities
across this great state Of, texas you can walk into
a Best buy and get. Them, Lubbock, Beaumont, Midland San.
Antonio you can go into Best buy and you can
get some of the real link, cameras one of which

(41:59):
is the there's an Indoor Wi fi ONE e three thirty.
ONE i don't know who names, THESE i mean the sexiest,
names but just drop these things down you can. Remember
there's the ONE i really. Like it's playing the Altis
Altas Wi fi. BATTERY i like it because of that
battery high cup at twenty thousand. Milliamp and again sorry

(42:20):
for the technology, there but at the end of the,
day it's a very high capacity. Battery you're not going
to need to recharge that on a very very regular.
Basis it's got great color if you want, to you
can even get the it's it's got a solar, panel
so you can put this. Outside it has ten second pre,
recording which means it starts recording even before it's supposed

(42:41):
to start, recording so if somebody comes up to your,
door it'll go back ten seconds and actually keep that.
Too they've got one the Go Et Ultra huller Night.
Vision that's pretty. Cool that's a FOUR G lte security.
Campus so that's not even you don't Need Wi, fi
no subscription, these that's FOUR. G it's like a cell phone.
Service so you can put this out in the middle

(43:02):
of your ranch out here In texas and look look
for deer and things and so good. COMPANY i have
a one or two where on my house Is i'm
trying to test. Out but right. NOW i like the
fact that the partner was best by really enhancing the
availability of these things across the state Of. Texas, said
so go get, that you know, What some of them
are small, enough take them out of the package and

(43:23):
put in your, stocking your stocking stuff for so it's
a really cool. Thing so that's What i'm talking. About
SO i do thank you for those calls and letters
and keep those things coming here on the long Running
High tech text and. Show another THING i get asked
about is cell phone, Plans and let me go through
some of these. Things you, know, Hey, michael, listen you
always talk about, phones good, phones phones to stay away.

(43:46):
From you never talked about the. iPhone what about cell phone?
Plans you, know every year it comes, up and you,
Know i'm looking for good, deals and you know what
about these. MVNO's are they worth it because they're you,
know relatively. Inexpensive, yeah you, know this is the time
a year when the major phone makers released their. Lineups
but it's it's not just the phone. Itself the phone

(44:06):
is only part of the package because you do need
that cellularttle plan really to take full advantage of. It
so if you're thinking about getting a new. Phone think
about what your current cell prone. Provider are they meeting your?
Needs do you Use Wi fi a? Lot are you
home a? Lot do you travel internationally a? Lot do
you like pre pay? Plans you like post pay plans

(44:26):
where you, know you pay at the end of the.
Month there's a there's a whole you, know things out of.
There is there a best plan? Overall, no because sometimes you,
know you have a family of, four sometimes it's just.
You you, know it's there's a number of different things
if you're looking for a single line. Plan and, AGAIN
i was just, googling AND i get a lot of
press releases And i'm just kind of putting one of

(44:47):
the ones that stands out for. ME T mobile has
something called The Essentials. Saver so you got a FIVE g.
NETWORK i think it includes fifty gigs of high speed
data here in The United. States it can be used
as a hot. Spot AND i think there's unlimited calls
and text In Canada. MEXICO i should try this Because
maxilam'm going To canada in a few. Weeks, ACTUALLY i
need to try that. THING i don't even know if

(45:07):
my current cell phone, SERVICE i do not USE T,
mobile BUT i hear. It it's very. NICE i think
that's fifty, bucks not. Bad fifty bucks a. Month THERE'S Us.
Mobile you ever heard of that? One that's actually An
envy AND o. Multiple you, know it's it's a multiple
virtual network. Operator so it's run On verizon's, network, okay

(45:31):
and it is ten gigs of high speed data and
then it slows. Down ten gigs is a, lot. MAN
i don't even if you're gonna, use especially if you're
in A Wi fi here and, THERE i don't think
you need that. Much seventeen fifty. CENTS i saw that
one AT Us. Mobile there's another, One google five that's
not the cheapest thing that runs ON t mobiles, network

(45:53):
kind of an mv AND o. Two that's about one hundred,
bucks but for four. Lines so if you've got four,
people now we got twenty five bucks a. Person that's not.
Bad then you've got you've got some. Fun Mint, mobile you,
know the old you know you See Ryan, reynolds it's his,
company but that's actually A T mobile bought it that
runs ON t mobiles. Network AND i actually Use Mint
mobile fifteen gigs a month and it's twenty. Dollars it's

(46:19):
just boom twenty bucks a. Month and, actually if anybody
actually is interested in this watch you asked me BECAUSE
i could send you a. LINK i think you get
a discount or, something so feel free to pop me in.
Out but there's there's other ONES i don't know people
are just coming. To here's One i'm not even familiar
with this. Company text Now Essential. Data what is?

Speaker 1 (46:37):
This it's?

Speaker 3 (46:38):
Free how's? IT i need to research that. Thing verizon
has an unlimited Welcome it's about one hundred and twenty. Bucks,
listen there's a number of, them but do your. Research
it all depends on how many people are on your.
Plan are you paying for your, Kids you're paying for your?
Spouse is it just? You luckily you know for, me
it's just, Me SO i don't pay any more than twenty.
Bucks you, know nit mobile, works you know relatively, Okay
So i'm actually fine with. That so, YEAH i do

(47:00):
get questions about. That and if you're unfamiliar with some
of the, PLANS i can quickly research for you and
help you. Out just use your cell phone right, now
hopefully you have unlimited calls that call me three four
six twenty Nine. Textan all, right when we come back about,
PHONES i got another, Question, Hey, garf is my phone?
Waterproof can you explain THESE ip sixty eight IP x? Ratings,

(47:23):
Well i'm gonna just have to do that when we
come back on The High Tech Texting. Show, hey your
calls are coming. IN i got your. Emails. Garf you
said you're gonna give. Something We you're gonna give. Something,
way of, Course i'm gonna give something. AWAY i, mean it's.
Radio this is what we.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Do.

Speaker 3 (47:36):
Promotion Michael, Garfield The High Tech Textan show all Across.
Texas you know, what if you live In, austin if
you live In houston on my listening, audience and Even San. Antonio,
Yes i'm gonna give something. Away Cabo bob's love me
Some Cabo. Bobs they're open every day Except. Sunday it
is that fast. Casual go down the. Line they smoke
that beautiful chicken and the steak and the. Brisket you

(47:58):
get the tacos that they make right in front of your.
Eyes four locations In, houston six, seven eight of them In,
austin one In San, antonio none for you yet In.
Dallas so you got to get down. Here caller number,
ten you got a twenty five dollars gift? Card why
not twenty five dollars gift card right? Now seven one
three two one two five nine. Five, oh that's our

(48:19):
contest line seven one three two one two five nine Five.
Oh color. Ten you get a twenty five dollars gift
card and if you hang out them at the ONE
a lot On southwest the side of The Houston Southwest freeway
in The Meadows stafford. Area odds are you're gonna see? Me?
Odds it's fun BECAUSE i walk. It that's the. One
that's my that's my home, win that's my frequent ONE
i go to in quite a. Bit i'm in there
three days a week probably like. That Hey, michael you

(48:41):
really do eat? HERE i hear you talking about, Right,
YES i do eat. THERE i always See arnold and Then,
laurie The, rios the you, know they are the regional you,
know you, know managers and marketing folks like. That they're.
Great they're just so. Good, up we have a. Winner
stop stop stops. Calling put you put your hands back
on the steering. Wheel stop. Calling we have a. Winner
so as we could diin you THE htt, show you. Know,

(49:04):
also one of the things THAT i cover is. STREAMING
i like. Streaming streaming is. GOOD i like. Streaming that
was actually kind of a seventies song close to. That
why DO I i saw there's another rebrand and another
name change in the streaming. World this one never made
sense to. Me who Uses APPLE Tv? Plus do you

(49:26):
Call APPLE tv plus APPLE tv? Plus did you even
know that there's a plus? Sign when you're streaming things
Like severance and STUFF i, liked you'd probably just call
It APPLE. Tv, well, No APPLE tv has long been
an actual, device kind of like a streaming stick that
you can use as an. Interface APPLE Tv plus has
been the name of the streaming. Service well guess What

(49:50):
they're dropping the, plus SO i guess they're minusing the
plus going. Forward as of right, Now APPLE Tv plus
will now be known as Just APPLE. Tv that's, right,
Folks apple and, me we are just here to confuse.
Here that's exactly. Right APPLE tv is available on The
APPLE tv, App so as a, stands you can turn

(50:12):
on Your APPLE tv device to open The APPLE tv
app to Watch APPLE. Tv you Get are you following?
Me do you watch anything On APPLE? Tv isn't Ted
lasso's On APPLE. Tv they're they're they're coming out with
another season Of Ted. LASSO i guess it's number. Four
it's been a. WHILE i will probably use somebody's user
name and paths for it BECAUSE i do not Have APPLE. Tv,

(50:34):
ACTUALLY i don't Have APPLE Tv plus because there's no
such thing As APPLE Tv. Plus we, continue so we
confuse you last lots of questions over here about. This
this is actually a very good. Question, Hey, garth is
my phone actually? WATERPROOF ip sixty EIGHT ip X a
writing when you get a, device and mostly there's certainly

(50:57):
it's every single, phone but there's, watches and there's computers and
laptops and things that you really don't want to get.
Wet you don't want to drop them in. Water you
don't want to splash him with. Water but the importance
of water resistance is out, there and there's RATINGS IP
ip sixty, SEVEN ip sixty eight IP x. Eight let

(51:19):
me help you break it. DOWN ip it stands for ingress,
protection maybe international. Protection that's a, rating but IT'S i
n G r E ss ingress. Protection it's a standard
that's set by The International Electro Technical. Commission not that
you cared about. That then you have to look at
the numbers behind THE IP ip sixty, SEVEN ip sixty.

(51:41):
Eight the first number in that rating code represents the
amount of protection provided against the entry of foreign solid
objects meaning sand or dust solid, objects and these protection
levels range from zero to. Six there you got. Up
six is the. Highest then there's another, number the second

(52:03):
number that represents the degree of protection against the entry
of moisture or. Liquid that number goes up to. Eight
sometimes you'll see AN ip rating with a number of
replaced with AN, x LIKE IP x. Eight in this,
instance the company's not provide testing, details so the rating

(52:24):
number for the solid particles is replaced with AN. X
so AN IP x eight rated. Device it can survive
being submerged in, water but it really hasn't been rated
for any protection from industrial other, particles got. It, EXAMPLE
ipohund seventeen pro has AN ip sixty eight, rating meaning

(52:44):
it's protected from dust getting inside and can withstand being
submerged in. Water galaxy From SAMSUNG as twenty Five ultru
ALSO ip sixty. Eight all, right so that's the highest.
Level it can get confusing because you, KNOW i don't
want to get into really you, know if you have

(53:05):
an eight on THE ip, rating it means that the
device can stand being submerged in at least one meter
of water for thirty, minutes and beyond that it's up
to the. Manufacturer because you go swimming with your, iPhone
i'd advise not should you have a case on your? Phone?

(53:26):
Absolutely or if what if my phone doesn't have AN iping,
rating can't it get? WET i. WOULDN'T i mean for
a company to advertise that its product has AN iping
rating at, all it has to go through a lot
of strict testing to ensure it. Means those requirements and
those testings could be, timely they could be, costly SO

(53:49):
i get. It while some of these budget model phones
they don't go through the whole. Thing you, know some
phones could use the term water repellent water resistance without
the OFFICIAL ip. Rating if your phone makes no mention
of water, resistance it's best to assume that it doesn't have.
Any so don't spoil anything on, it you, know don't

(54:13):
take it to the beach or anything anything like. That
but the point is wrap it up in a. Cover
does that make? Sense you? See this is WHAT i
try to. DO i try to take topics that can
get all, confused AND i just try to make it
as simple as. Possible. People that's just absolutely as simple as.
That so you tell me if that. Worked more phone
calls over. Here good. News, ALSO.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
I.

Speaker 3 (54:34):
Am i'm very proud of. This i'm an eagle. SCOUT
i KNOW i. Wasn't you can't use the TERM i
was an eagle scout because once you're an egle, scout
you're always are an eagle. Scout i'm an eagle. Scout
it was be very big in the Boy. Scouting loved,
it enjoyed, it proud of it. Too the most technological
merit badge THAT i, got AND i THINK i needed
twenty four back in WHEN i was an egole. SCOUT

(54:54):
i think you needed twenty one to twenty four mirror
badges back in the. Day most. Technological and WHEN i
GOT i got the computer marit. BADGE i got the
electronics merit. BADGE i think you had a solder some
stuff and use things like with A hollowith code and you,
know just crazy. STUFF i saw. That scouting now have
has two new merit, badges one FOR ai and one

(55:18):
for cyber. Security Scouting america created AN ai chat pot
that actually explains the requirements and different. Badges there's AN
ai merit badge, too and un quoting here to introduce
scouts to the fundamentals OF ai and automation through hands
on activities and real world, examples while the cybersecurity merit

(55:39):
badge qui scouts with the sensual knowledge and skills to
navigate or protect the digital. World, OKAY i like the
fact that they're changing with the. Times, yes they're still
swimming life saving basket, weaving which by the, way was
my very first merit badge back WHEN i was thirteen years. Old,
yep it's no longer are called Boy scouts changed its

(56:02):
name To SCOUTS. Bsa then it changed To Scouting america
because they allowed girls in. It not getting into. That
don't give me calls about. It i'm just telling you
about merit. Badges and if you know someone who's An Eagle,
scout you go up and you congratulate them him or
her because it's a freaking Eagle. Scout, STILL i don't
have a. Resume IF i made a, resume which one,

(56:24):
MAY i need to. Do number one, Thing i'm An
Eagle scout without THE ai and the cybersecurity. BADGES i
have a lot more than. That out of the, hour
thirty more. Minutes hurry.

Speaker 1 (56:35):
Up?

Speaker 3 (56:35):
VPNs what's a virtual private? Network and do they cost?
MONEY i actually have a list of some VPNs that
you can try absolutely for free without putting that credit card.
In you may want to do, that and some. Reviews
you need a dash? Cam got one coming? Up don't
go anywhere? Here on The High Tech Texting, show back

(56:57):
at it on The High Tech Texan Michael garfield's, Show
Oh Happy, October hope all is well with? You you
know the phone, number you know how to get, Me
you got the whole x and twitters and everything account
High Tech texan love to talk to you. About it's still, hot,
man it is absolutely still hot In. OCTOBER i don't
know what we're gonna. Do MAYBE i want this cold,
weather but it's neat because it's holiday season for, me

(57:18):
and this is the TIME i really start recommending more
and more. Products i'm doing more the media tours ON
tv and. Radio here are my top products in this
category that. Category maybe it's, automobiles maybe it's, phones maybe it's,
Computers maybe it's, bourbon maybe it's. Beer WHATEVER i am your.
Guy speaking of phone, calls we have Got. John Hey,

(57:41):
john what's going?

Speaker 1 (57:41):
On?

Speaker 3 (57:43):
Hey? Garth how are you? Fine? MAN i appreciate the.
Call what's going on with? You you, know just on
a road? Trip BUT i was thinking about something you
mentioned the other. Day you talk about this cowboy pool
all the. Time what exactly?

Speaker 1 (57:55):
Is?

Speaker 3 (57:55):
It sounds pretty? Cool, AH a man of good. Taste number,
one you listen under reg basis and you listen to
the WORDS i. Say but, Yeah step part three is
you don't go out and purgase the things THAT i.
Recommend now, listen happy to talk about. It cowboy Pools,
No i've been yapping about this thing SINCE i GOT
i got one installed In, august so it's been what

(58:18):
two months right. Now it's a it's an unbelievable. Invention
so Cowboy pool is long story, short it's it's from
An austin based, company but they have presence In houston
also with a warehouse. Too it is a it's this
cool pool that is filtered and you can add a
heater and a, cooler chiller and things so you can

(58:40):
get the temperatures down to like almost forty. Degrees you
can get it up to just over one hundred. Degrees
not a hot, tub but picture it looking like a hot.
Tub and it comes in several different. Sizes there's a
six foot, diameter eight, foot and a ten. FOOT i
BELIEVE i have the eight foot AND i got it
in my backyard BECAUSE i live. NOW i don't live
in your typical ranch Style texas. HOME i you, know

(59:01):
after the kids moved, there you're not kind of. Downsize
But i've got a more of a vertical. HOUSE i
don't have a, big big. Backyard and that's one OF
i think the reasons That i'd, Opted LIKE i need
something like, this and WHEN i say, listen there's a
difference between you. Want there's a different between. Need DO
i need?

Speaker 1 (59:16):
It you know?

Speaker 3 (59:17):
What it's it's so good for my mental capacity to
sit out. THERE i have A tv outside. Too i've
got a. GRILL i just sit there in, THERE i
have a cocktail and it's you know it's it's it's relatively.
Shallow you can sit into. It mine is eight. Foot
you probably can fit a good six people in, mind

(59:37):
AND i can remotely control the. HEATER i could remotely
chol to cool it. Down but you talk about, INSTALLATION
i remember WHEN i got a real full sized backyard
pool back in the. Day it COSTS i don't know
how many hundreds of thousand. Dollars it took, months in
months to plan to. Build there was a lot of. Upkeep,
no you go, online you, ordering you scale the, delivery

(01:00:01):
you kind of prepare the space out, back make sure
you got a kind of flat level. Space they my
pool is delivered and installed in three. Hours, boom. EXACTLY
i did. IT i did did A tv Story Fox.
AUSTIN i think it may have aired here On Great
Day houston in The houston. Area but go to my YouTube,
channel my Heighth Tech textan dot com webpage and you
can see what it looked like and you can see

(01:00:22):
how easy as simple as to roll. Out but that's
what it, is.

Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
Very good.

Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Prices it's it's just fraction of the cost of a
of a regular pool getting built in. There so that's
WHAT i always talking about. It it's Called cowboy pools dot.
Com get. It tell if you heard it on the
Old High Tech Textan garf, show and then send me
a picture of you soaking out there in. It BUT
i use this thing, regularly, certainly it you, KNOW i

(01:00:47):
go running AND i pop in there and it. Does
the fact is at some point is going to get
cooler In texas despite the heat that we have right
now in Early, october but it's going to get, cooler
And i'm going to turn the heater on and it
goes up to like one hundred and four. Degrees it's
just so there you. Go who wants a? Pool i'm
here for. You Michael. Garfield you know the number of
this radio show three four, six two nine eight three

(01:01:09):
nine two, Six big shout out To, Houston, Austin San, Antonio,
dallas wherever you are, listening and got more calls and
questions coming. In one QUESTION i do get semi. Off
it Is i've been talking a lot about VPNs virtual private.
Networks you, know that's a software you can download so
you can either hide where you, are protect where you,

(01:01:31):
are really make things much safer and more secure when you're.
SURF i, mean if you have a work with a,
company your company probably mandate you, to if they got good,
security to download A vpn or get through this. Firewall
so obviously you know the conversations the transactions are really.
TIGHT i think a VPNs are very important when you
travel certainly, internationally and where WAS. I i was In china

(01:01:56):
earlier this, year last year WHEN i Hit, BERLIN i Hit,
london AND I i really. DIDN'T i, MEAN i understood
the importance of using A vpn software much more so
When i'm traveling. Internationally some of them are, FREE i
really and a lot of them are, PAID i believe
it or. NOT i like, free don't get me, wrong
my favorite four letter. Word but the free ones sometimes

(01:02:20):
lack some of the, features maybe they have some, advertisements
maybe they can't be trusted as. Much and so when
it comes TO, VPN i probably would recommend ones that you,
know there is a, charge it's not. Astronomical you can
get them on a monthly. Basis you can get them
on an annual basis right, now but you really should
try it. Out and there are a number AND i

(01:02:42):
did some research BECAUSE i was looking earlier this, week
BECAUSE i probably got two questions on. It there are
a number OF vpn services that will give you a,
sample a little, taste maybe a thirty day risk free
trial or something like. THAT i like, trials you, KNOW
i want a trial. Period WHAT i don't like personally

(01:03:03):
IS i don't like these trial periods that, hey try.
This here's a subscription to this newspaper for seven, days
but enter your credit card. Number if you don't cancel
after the seventh, day we're gonna charge. You because SOMETIMES
i forget and they start charging. ME i like genuine
free trials. There, ACTUALLY i found some really good free
trials of VPNs where there's no payment. Required i'm gonna

(01:03:27):
throw out. These i'll let me see IF i can
also put this on my High tech text in x.
Account so if you HAVE X, twitter just go to
High Tech texan H I g H T E c
H T e X A N i'll put it on.
There one of which is NORD vpn N o R.
D that's a good. One actually is spersky K a

(01:03:50):
s p E r s K y gives you seven
days and it works on a lot of major all
the major operating systems. There i'm sorry that was another.
One Surf. Shark that's one gives you a seven day
trial and they did not require payment to use the.

(01:04:11):
Trial now, again when you have these, things you should
and what you could. Do you could pretend you're in another.
Country you can set a server that you surf through because,
generally if you're at, home if you're in The texas
area and you're Using comcast Or expended or something for,

(01:04:31):
example servers know that you're in The United, states and
maybe there are some websites that in the state Of
texas that don't allow you access because you're in the
state Of. Texas there's a number of different sites WHICH
i wouldn't even talk, about some of these illicit websites
and industries that, oh you're In. Texas note we need
to prove that you're actually eighteen years, old and you

(01:04:51):
can't get to, them some of. Them if you are
outside The United, states you can't get back into The
United states for. Surfing let me give you. Example i'm In. Berlin,
YES i was In berlin last year during football. Season
i'm trying to log on From berlin back home into
My Comcast infinity or whatever account to watch a Ut

(01:05:15):
longhorn football. Game it wouldn't let me because it KNEW
i was in a foreign, country and so it was
scared that you, know you, know it's it, was you,
know somebody was trying to hack or SOMETHING i. HAVE
i had A, Vpn So i'm In berlin AND i
use THE. Vpn and WHAT i could do IS i
made it change the quote unquote server actually would even
a quote the server the ROUTE i was dialing, in

(01:05:38):
AND i made it THINK i was in The United.
States nothing, illegal you Could there's like hundreds of countries
you could do this. In SO i set my serve
at The United states well knowing THAT i was in
The United states or THINKING i was in The United.
STATES i was allowed to actually then tap into My exfinity,
Account compcast account and actually and watch. It so one

(01:05:59):
of the major many many pluses and plus sides of
getting A. Vpn and SO i really would cry a
few different ones before you you test that and then
at that point go. AHEAD i think it is worth
the money to do it and use them on a regular.
Basis and, yes guess WHAT i. Think the One i'm
using right now Is EXPRESS. VPN i think my, account

(01:06:23):
which which is there's a, pick there's an animal. Fee
you get, three, four, five six different devices that you can.
Use and, YES i use it on my mobile phone.
Too it's not just my, laptop it's not just my.
Tablet you can now also download it and use it
for your phone and don't sleep in the fact, THIS
i probably would use it on my phone before my

(01:06:43):
laptop BECAUSE i use my. Phone we all. Use our
phone is probably more than a. Laptops so that's what
a virtual private network. Is check out some of those
before you know you. Can you can try before you,
buy But i'd Like EXPRESS. VPN i Think NORD, Vpn,
kasperskia those are pretty. Strong one more final. Segment if
you're in the mode for a dash, CAM i got

(01:07:04):
a little dash cam. Review i'll take. It any last
minute phone calls and we will be back to wrap
up this week on A High Texan. Show final little
segment here on The High Tech Texan. Show Happy week
in middle Of, october it is. Hot should you be
In houston and you were interested in watching The Texas longhorns,

(01:07:27):
game LISTEN i talk about The longhorns game Because i'm
a long horn. FAN i work with the nice folks
At Patterson park twenty two oh Five Patterson, street not
far from The heights in. Downtown game watching Party saturday
night kickoff six p. M Versus. KENTUCKY i may pop
by for ruski or, two so hope to see you.
There let's, well maybe get a phone call or two,

(01:07:49):
in BUT i did want to sneak in one more.
Review you, Know i'm getting so many products AND i
get all across the, board AND i want to make
sure that we talk about it in one of which
it's a dash, cam AND i hear a lot of
people who have dash from a lot of people who
have dash. Cams it's a camera that mounts in your,
car and it could have a single lens dash, cam

(01:08:11):
which is you, know it mounts kind of a right
next to your rear view mirror and it points, outward
so it's always recording what's going on in front of your.
Car so you, know maybe there's a head in, collision
let's hope, not but that's being. Recorded there are other
dash cams that will also has a camera that shoots,
backwards which means inside the. Cabin and you see a
lot Of uber drivers and you know they have those,

(01:08:33):
too just for the, record record, things to make sure
everything's all. Cool copasetic and it's nice to. Have sometimes
insurance companies will give you discounts because you're recording things
to you, know to make, sure, okay what's the real.
Story BUT i try a lot of. Them not long
ago was it about a year. AGO i don't. KNOW
i may have tried one from a company Called Van.

(01:08:54):
TRUE i really liked. It, anyway they just sent me
another one to play, with AND i like this one even.
More it's it's The Van true V A n t
R U E Van TRUE n five s as in.
Sexy let's just put it that, way in five s
and what it, is let me sa IF i can
break it down. Quickly it is a it's a triple channel,

(01:09:16):
system so it's going to give you a complete three
hundred and sixty degree coverage view of what is going
on up. Front it's going to record in FOUR k
captures every license, plate traffic, sign every knucklehead who thinks
a blinker is optional. Anything now, back there's a rear. Camera,

(01:09:40):
okay it's a system that you actually position a camera
in the. Back you do have to install that. One
and it's a TWO k rear camera and that keeps
an eye on your tailgate crowd back. There then it's
got a ten eighty p interior camera which monitors what's
going on in the cabin and again rides here at
drivers HEAR i want to see what's really going on

(01:10:01):
the backseat where was this when my kids were? Young
we can go on and on and on WHAT i
really like about this, thing specifically a few bullpoints THAT
i took notes. For this works really well in low,
light and it does that because it's got sony, Sensors,
okay and that really makes the world a difference because

(01:10:22):
a lot of us drive at night breaking news and
you're driving down an unlight stretch of, road and WHAT
i noticed is the detail of brightness were. Incredible SO
i saw road, lines, cars pedestrians, clearly not a lot
of that grainy mess that kind Of i'm used to
at the low level, Cameras so it's really. Nice this
actually pack HAS hdr AND i talk about high dynamic

(01:10:43):
arrange when it comes to cell phone, cameras so it's
got a nice balance contrasted you, know tricky lighting. Too
but here some of the FEATURES gps, logging so it
keeps track of your roots and your speed. Too all,
right parents want to put one of these in your,
kids AS i understand what you're talking. About it's got
built In Wi, fi so this connects to an app

(01:11:06):
so you can instantly look at and download clips right
to your phone. Too it's got voice, control so you
could say take a snapshot or start recording without pushing
some buttons and things. Too it's even got this is.
Nice has a parking surveillance, mode so if you hardwire,
it it becomes a twenty four to seven security guard

(01:11:27):
and it records motion or any impacts when your park,
case someone does something your. Car this is great if
you park in the, city if anybody finds a little
mystery dent in the. Morning it actually works. Too now,
downside generally you think there's a screen on the. UNIT
a lot of the dash, cams you, know test and
they have. Screens there's no screen on this, one, right

(01:11:47):
some folks may. Miss but again it does make this look, smaller,
cleaner more. Modern it's. Fine and again that's why it
connects to the app and you're set to. Go you
put a MICRO sd card in. THERE i think it's
up to a five twelve gig so it holds hours
and hours of FOUR k footage that's not, included so
you're gonna want to get one of. Those runs about
three one hundred and fifty dollars, so and that's on

(01:12:10):
the premium, end the higher end of dash, cams but
so is the performance you. Can i'm gonna compare it to.
These there's other triple camera systems out, there there's other Companies,
Blackview Think where or whatever like, that BUT i Think
i'm noticing more, resolution better night quality for over. Here
So Van TRUE n FIVE S i think one of

(01:12:33):
the more complete dashcam packages out there right. Now it's
a reliable, recording great, clarity good smartphone, features smart voice,
features easy app control no matter where you. Are so
there you, go vaner V a n t R U e.
Again holiday gift guys take it out of the, package
it'll fitness stocking. Stuffer BUT i think in terms of
safety thanks to technology Which i've been covering for twenty,
years these something like this was not, around certainly in

(01:12:56):
this form factor, resolution the technology twenty plus years. Ago
but this is this is where we are right. Now
so no need to go out and get any of these.
Teslas with built in systems like, that you can actually
make your own. Jealoppie that's about as high tech as
that potentially could. Be so my quick thoughts about. That
other than, THAT i was able to also play with

(01:13:16):
the new rog xbox ally that's. RIGHT i was up
In New york last. Week AS i told, YOU i
couldn't talk about it till this, week till the embargo
lifted A sus AS Us Great. Computers they had me
up there AND i have starting to play The Rog xbox,
ally the first time that A sus AND rog kind

(01:13:37):
of partner With. Xbox it is a True windows eleven hand.
Old it's a handheld gaming, device two different, versions six
hundred dollars and one thousand. Dollars that's. Right sometimes you
may have to take a little, swallow but you know
in a, breath but you the play is, colorful. Seamless
you could start An xbox game at, home then you
could take it on the. Road it's got a knee.

(01:13:58):
Controller it's very. Light, Wait i'm just starting to play with,
this but if you are a, gamer start looking for.
These there should be on the shelves right. Now you
can go To xbox or look AT, rg which stands
for A republic Of gaming from A. Sus but it
was really. NICE i really appreciate the The, Asus david
and the rest the gang for getting me up there
BECAUSE i was one of the first ones to actually

(01:14:19):
have one of these in my. Hands so between me
and my middle Son. Josh we are reviewing and playing with,
it and we'll even have. MORE i Think i'm doing
A tv segment on it here soon In Fox, Austin
fox Seven, austin where you could see me Every monday
to actually see WHAT i look. Like and, YES i
hopefully have a little bit more than a face for.
Radio put a little, bit put a little bakeup on,

(01:14:40):
me a little, pig the lipstick of a, pig and
may be able to do a LITTLE tv stuff with.
That got to look at the clock and we're going
to end the show over. HERE i do want to
thank everybody for tuning. In thank you To, will thank
you To, callum thank you To Brian erickson who puts
me on all of These iHeartRadio stations across the state Of,
texas and also on that app which you can, download
download The iHeartRadio. App as we continue to get into this,

(01:15:02):
season hopefully it's going to be cooler and we are
going to start doing a lot more holiday gift, ideas
and so that's What i'm here. For check me Out
hi tech textan dot, com H I g H T
E c H t e X A n high tech
teching dot com and then after that we will talk
to you next. Weekend so, on behalf of everybody who's
been a part of this. One thank you so. Much
go watch, football have some, beer just be safe when

(01:15:24):
you're driving out. There my name Is garth and right
now my show is.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
