Hi tex Is Michael Garfel Michael Garfield, Michael Garfields joining the high Tech Texan.
Michael Garfield is here with a hightech texting items to make easier new
technology. So Michael Garfield has somethingyou might like. Texan. Michael Garfield

(00:26):
is your high tech Texan. Threedecades hoping you make magic with your gadgets.
Heard worldwide on the iHeart Radio Act. Now your high tech Texan.
Michael Garfield. Well, hello,we welcome you once again to the longest

(00:48):
running radio show on this heritage talkstation. It's KPRC nine fifty. Michael
Garfield is the name. It's calledthe high Tech Text and Show. By
the way, a happy birthday thisradio station. Would you be listening trestfully?
This week turned ninety eight years old. Ninety eight my friends, one,
we need to check this. It'sone of, if not the oldest,

(01:11):
commercially licensed radio stations in the stateof Texas. It's certainly the heritage
talk radio station here in the stateand absolutely euston as. We certainly know
that my show right now twenty yearsrunning, the longest live, local running
radio show. And you know whatI got for that, Absolutely nothing,
absolutely oh you know sorry, Ihave you, my dear listeners, for

(01:34):
tuning in. Raise your hand ifyou have been listening since day one,
back when I had hair. Ohwait a minute, actually still have hair.
You know what technology has changed, but the themes of what we talk
about, wally, haven't. Ido a lot more consumer lifestyle stuff.
I now talk about cars, trucks, travel, bourbon and fashion and everything,

(01:55):
because that's what technology does. Istill try to keep it real,
Keep it real, man. Youdon't hear me talk about up computers and
geeky and megabytes and gigabytes stuff. No, no, no, you see
you see me a little bit moreearlier this week, I was on great
day euston doing some fun stuff thatis actually me. I guess you could
throw a little makeup on a pigand sometimes it looks presentable. Oh can't

(02:15):
say pig. My Rabbi would notbe happy with that. But you know
where I'm getting at. The themesthat we have are the same. And
guess what theme we have right now? Countdown his own until Mother's Day?
Should you be listening live? Youhave just about do T minus thirteen hours

(02:36):
to get your mama something and takemy advice. You're dang, well,
better get your mama something because she'syour mama. Let me give you a
tip, not for moms, notfor kids. Right now, let me
give a tip if I could, for husband's and boyfriends. Stay away from

(02:57):
kitchen and household appliances and and hearme out now, I'm sure your wife
or girlfriend appreciates the sentiment that she'sa mother, but let me help you
out. In my personal experience, that stuff don't work with mama. Trust

(03:17):
me, I'm divorced. Do notask me about the what I thought was
a very elegant stainless deal kitchen trashcan back in the day. And if
you run into my ex girlfriend, please don't bring up the air frier,
despite the fact that she was notthe mother of my kids and she used
that damn airfier from almost every otherday. I thought it was a nice

(03:39):
gift. But kids, children,I'm speaking to you now. I think
you should be pretty good with givingthose gifts, household appliances or any gifts,
because at least you're getting your mothera gift. And with that,
I will run down a number oflast minute gift ideas, including something that

(04:00):
this is interesting. I'm actually lookingforward to this next segment. I have
a gift idea that is so technologicallyadvanced and will cost you absolutely nothing.
Yep, that's my kind of gift. That's called a Garf gift. Happy
Mother's Day for all you mothers outthere, including my mother, Susan Garfield,
maybe listening on iHeart Radio up inDallas right now. I hope you

(04:25):
do have a fun weekend and celebrateas best as you can. Phone number
here if you would like to callme and say, Hey, Michael,
my mom's kind of into this.Maybe you should take Should I get her
some speakers, headset. I needto get mom a new car, Garf.
I know you're a big car guy. Talk to me here, callum
read here is on the other sideof the glass running this show. Seven
one three two one two five ninefive. Oh. That number has not

(04:47):
changed in the twenty years that Ihave been doing it. Here on this
birthday, ninety eight year old celebratingradio station of KPRC nine fifty. For
those of you not listening, Trustleyand listening on the stream or I Heart
Radio, I Heart Online, wedo thank you for that. That also
was not around twenty years ago whenI started this. Some of the things
I will yap out to yap about. Today, Google had their big press

(05:12):
conference debut event announcement like they doevery year in May. It's called Google
Io. That's kind of like whenApple talks about in launches and announces their
new iPhones, which happens later inthe year. But this was Google's and
obviously Google is Gmail, and inthis there's watches and the Android systems and
everything, and yes they have theirown chat bot too. So I'll tell

(05:32):
you about some of that things.Cars got to tell I've been test driving
some some really cool vehicles over thepast few weeks. And you know,
every single week for fifteen years,I actually get to test drive a really
cool vehicle or two, not froma dealership. This is not an endorsement
at all. This is just mepure content. Past a week or so,

(05:53):
I have been in a two differentFord Broncos Ford Bronco. This past
week I was ahead to head.I had a Ford Broncho Raptor, the
Raptor version of the Ford Broncho prettycool, and at the same time a
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, both kind ofoff Rose machines, and so I will

(06:14):
give my thoughts on that should yoube interested, if you would like me
to test drive something for you,I probably can make that happen. All
you need to do is go tohigh Tech Texan high tech Texan dot com.
You can go to a Twitter, which you can do right now.
High T eh T e x AM. I've got some other news about
you know. I guess they canfit into the Mother's Day categories. They're

(06:35):
not really sexy Mother's Day gifts, especially when you when you count a blood
a wireless blood pressure monitor or anew scale that I've been playing with from
a company called Withings that really makesgreat health products. Are these things you
want to stay away from with mom? I would say? So. I
have some list here that a numberof other websites and buddies of mine in

(06:59):
the industry put the together. Oh, here are some tech gifts that mom
would like. And listen, Mom'sjust like dad's, just like kids,
just like anybody. I mean, they love technology just as just as much
and just as well as anybody else. I'm gonna go through through these lists
and I'm gonna I'm gonna go yeaor nay? Going what I what?
I actually recommend some of these thingsand by the way. You know what,

(07:20):
the gift that keeps wall house notthe gift that keeps on giving.
It's a gift that dies sometimes. But flowers always a good thing to get
mom. And a big shout outto a long time buddy mine, Ben
who runs river Oaks Florist, andbelieve it or not, not river Oaks.
Really it's right by. It's inWest View or Rice University, right

(07:41):
at the corner of Rice and Kirby. I know he is listening. Actually,
Bend himself is not listening. It'sa long story, but all of
his co workers are listening right nowand they will be open all today to
get moms some flowers. So tellme you heard it on the old mister
Michael Garfield Show, and get someflowers with that. Stand by, because
I have got something I think Idid once a few months ago. I'm

(08:03):
gonna do it again. I amgonna tell you folks something so cool using
literally the latest bit of technology soadvanced. And I'm this is not hyperbole.
I'm not getting you the most advancedtechnology that we have literally to this
minute. It's gonna cost you nothing, and it's gonna be a sweet Mother's
Day gift. If that's not atease, I don't know what it is.
It's Michael Garfield on the High TechText and Show. We're back at

(08:33):
it. Just a segment number twojust started the show. If you missed
the first segment, sucks for youpeople, sucks for I told I told
you for Mother's Day. Man,if you're a husband, if you're maybe
a boyfriend, you know, typetype of got things to stay away from.
I kind of want to stay awayfrom kitchen and household appliance. As
kids, you are allowed to getmom a kitchen or household appliances. Uh,
Dad's uh, you know, bf'strying to impress you know, your

(08:56):
wife or something like that. It'syou may want to stay away from.
Apparently kitchen and househol appliance is nota good gift for birthdays or mother's days,
maybe not even Christmas. I don'tknow when is a good time.
I don't know. A Wednesday, when bed, Bath and Beyond announces are
going out of business and it hasa good sale, I don't know,

(09:16):
but you probably should stick with flowersor something like that. And actually,
I have the ultimate gift coming upfor mom. It's gonna cost you nothing.
Michael Garfield is the name. It'sthe High Tech Texan show. We
do celebrate mom. We've got dadsand grads coming up soon. It's always
an interesting month or two as weslowly get into summer that we it's a

(09:37):
lot of gift giving season. Andfor those of you who have kids graduating
college or high school model, congratsto you. Some of the things I
don't know. I mean, Iguess you can get. If you have
a female graduating high school college, you maybe the odds are they're not mothers.
I hope they're not mothers yet.I hope they will be one day,

(09:58):
but not now out and then youprobably you know. That's why I
separate Mother's Day and grads and dadsand the whole thing. We'll get to
those other categories later. Phone numberhere if you want to say high give
me any questions, maybe I cananswer seven one three, two one two
five nine five. Got a giftfor you guys out there and kids or

(10:18):
anybody who wants to celebrate their motherall right. One of the neatest technologies
that is scary, that may notbe as understood as we understand it yet,
but it is the future of wherewe're going is artificial intelligence specifically,
there's many of them out there, but the one that the low hanging fruit

(10:39):
everybody generally may be familiar with. It's called chat GPT. Chat GPT is
this. This is a very interestingthing where it is a free website.
You can just google chat GPT.I think they're on the fourth version of
it, and you could ask it. It's different than a search engine.

(11:00):
You can ask anything. You canspecifically ask chat to write something to to
just to recan't just and it spitsit out. If this was around when
I was in school, I wouldhave gotten straight days or I would have
been kicked out of school because theywould have kicked me out knowing that it
was not written by me, waswritten by a bot. But it could

(11:22):
do interesting things like personalize a Mother'sDay greeting, a poem or a song.
So forget about those store bought Mother'sDay cards. No matter what you
think of chat GPT, it cancreate something personalized just for you. All

(11:43):
you need to do is you goonline, you tell chat GPT what to
write. You enter some things thatmean a lot to your mom, kids,
names, vacations, her favorite hobbies, whatever. Seconds later and no
cost to you chat GPT's gonna write, which you probably can't. It's pretty

(12:05):
good, doesn't cost anything. Youcan ask to make it funny, make
it sentimental, sappy, anything else. Print it out, write up by
hand, stand back, watch hercry when she reads it. She's gonna
get for clints. As an example. And I say this, and I
probably should have told my mom tolisten, but generally she usually does.
She has nothing to do on Saturdaysaround this time. Susan Garfield, if

(12:26):
you are listening via iHeartRadio and Dallas, turn it up because this is a
heartfelt note written by me, yourson, along with your three grandsons,
my kids, Justin, Josh andAdam. Remember I had no help other

(12:50):
than chat GPT. I go tochat cheep. I better just stop the
ruse. I went to chat GPTand I said, write a Mother's Day
poem to Susan Garfield. Her sonis Michael, her grandkids are Justin,
Josh and Adam. This my dearmother, Susan Garfield. A few to

(13:15):
Susan, a mother so dear, whose love and warmth are always near on
this special Mother's Day. Let mefind the perfect words to say, Michael,
your son stands tall and proud, guided by the love you've endowed.
Through every step, You've been hislight, a beacon shining day and night.

(13:43):
Justin Josh and Adam, your grandsonsso true in their hearts, they
hold a special place for you, which he joyful laugh and tender embrace.
You've woven love into their childhood's grace. You've nurtured dreams, wiped away tears,

(14:03):
supported them throughout the years. Yourlove's a shield that never fades,
a fortress strong in all the shades. Through sleepless nights and weary days,
You've cared for them in countless ways. Your gentle touch and comforting voice in
their hearts forever rejoice. So onthis day, let it be known your

(14:24):
love's a garden beautifully grown. Withevery smile and every care, you've shown
them, a love beyond compare.Susan, You're a mother, grandmother,
divine, a true testament to love'sdesign. May this Mother's day bring you
joy untold as your family's love continuesto unfold with heartfelt thanks and love so

(14:48):
deep. May your heart forever feelthe love we keep for you. Dear
Susan, were a tenerantly grateful,a beacon of love, so truly special.
I'm getting for clipped talk amongst yourselves. I need a moment chet GPT.

(15:09):
Is it real? Do we believein it? Are we scared of
it? Then it's amazing in it. This was not around when I started
the eye tech, dex and sticktwenty plus years ago. Nope, this
is what we have come to nowwith artificial intelligence. All I did was
type in my name and my kid'sname, write a mother's Day poem.

(15:33):
I could have said, write amother's Day song, but I was sure
as hell not singing it on theair. It's interesting, it's a time
saver. Now listen in reality, let's just put this chet GPT or the
artificial intelligence these bots to use. That's what the poem that I read.

(15:54):
It's beautiful, it is. They'revery touching. It's not as personalized as
really as it should be. It'snot written in the way that I speak.
I speak with a lot more humor, a lot more slang. But
I'm telling you it's a guideline.You ever have something called writer's block.
I get writer's block quite often andI have to write things. I write

(16:17):
columns. I review of everything thatI do in media writing. It's my
least favorite thing to do because ittakes me so long because I think through
it where I want to write wordsor type words actually that come out in
the way that I speak, becauseI do much more electronic and digital media

(16:41):
because I'm on radio, Hello, nice to nice to have you here,
I television, video, social media. You'll see me speak and I'm fine.
I speak fast, I have humor, you know, I use a
lot of an inn the window doubleentendre chat GPT does not know that from
me yet it will, but asa start, I let this thing spit

(17:04):
it out. Yes. Could Ihave spent another ten, fifteen thirty minutes
massaging and changing a few words.Absolutely, I didn't because I'm a lazy
son. Sorry about that, butI just wanted to let you know that
this is out there and it's real. Yes, I've spent some time,
probably since December, which I thinkwhen we as the world are certainly consumers

(17:25):
out there realized that hey, there'sthis thing called chat GPT. I'm gonna
continue to talk about it more.I'm gonna continue to give examples. But
one of my first Mother's Day giftsgo to chat GPT. Try to personalize
it as much as you can printit out, gives moms some flowers,
and Happy freaking Mother's Day from meto you, bottom of the hour.

(17:45):
Don't go anywhere when we come back. Oh, we do have so much
more. I'm going to go througha list of what other brethren, what
other ilk of my kind in thejournalism media world, certainly the technology folks
that are giving advice to get fromMother's Day. I will give you my
thumbs up, my thumbs down. Also, we'll talk a little about cars

(18:06):
and you like phones, mom?Could phones are great? Mom? Who
wouldn't love a new smartphone for mom? Well? Google just did alexand its
first foldable phone. Samsung already hasa foldable phone and a flip phone.
Google at your turn, your turn, Apple, don't hold your breath,
it'll come. So. My name'sGarth, Bottom of the hour, Happy
Mother's Day. You're right back bottomof the first hour of the high tech

(18:37):
text and show how how are you? Michael's my name Hits. I'd rather
not be referred to as Mike. Not that it's a do or die type
of thing. I bring this upbecause I was on and I popped on
great day Houston television show this pastThursday morning along with my friend and longtime
host Defera Duncan, and I wasdoing a live shot. And I have

(19:00):
known Deborah actually yet used to havea radio show on the station KPRC.
As we celebrate ninety eight years ofKPRC radio, Deborah was here probably gosh,
twelve years ago or something, andshe she sat next to me and
Randy Lemon in our newsroom and wewould just laugh. I've known deb and
I pop on there quite often todo some technology stuff. She actually had

(19:23):
me on there as a segment hostan actually reporter, if you will,
and it was fun. So sheknows me. She knows me as Garf.
Certainly she knows me as Michael. So we're doing this lot. We're
doing a live shot, and wetossed back and forth. It was like
a four minute thing, and I'mlive and I'm interviewing people. We go

(19:44):
back and then we're doing the happytalk and she goes, all right,
thanks Mike, And I'm looking rightinto the camera on live television on CBS
here and I'm like, you gotit. But then she corrected herself.
She goes, Mike, why didI call you? Mike? Your mother
calls you Mike. I did notcorrect her. But my mother also does
not call me Mike. I wasMike in high school, it maybe grade

(20:08):
school, and then when it wasmy first or second year of college,
I said, none of this Mikestuff. I am. I am Michael.
I've always been garf so my buddiesand closed people. But I thought
that was pretty funny. So thepoint is, I love you, Dab,
you know I do. I enjoyworking with you. I hope to
work with you much more. Wetalked and had a good laugh after that,

(20:29):
and she goes, I don't knowwhat. I don't know why I
called you Mike. I said, just said, you know, it's the
typical. You can call me anythingyou want, but don't call me late
for dinner. I'd rather you callme late for dinner. They call me
Mike. It is Michael Gorefield, the original Michael. Right here on I
Heart Radio here in Houston, beendoing it for twenty years. We are
celebrating ninety eight years of a KPRCradio celebrated its birthday. It's a long

(20:53):
old time radio station. I amgetting old, just nutt as much as
the radio station. But are herefor you specifically, we're doing some fun
stuff with Mother's Day. Mother's Dayis coming up. We have just over
twelve hours for you to get tomom something. I'm going to go through
some list over here of what youmay want to get it. Tell you
what mom does love jewelry. Perfecttime to me remind you that US Coins

(21:15):
and Jewelry they are open right nowon Saturday. Should you be listening Saturday?
They are closed on Sunday. Sono, none of this last minute.
Let's run out get mom something. Why don't you run over to US
Coins and Jewelry. They are onI ten Katie Freeway right at Voss Voss,
right at Voss Road on the FeederRoad, southbound Feeder Road. They've

(21:36):
been literally used as premier gold andsilver buyers since nineteen eighty five. That's
a that's a long freaking time ofpeople. That's almost twenty years. They
buy and sell precious mint medals, coins, loose diamonds, watches. They
have such great watch as they havea state jewelry. Kenny and Matt Duncan,
the entire Duncan family. They aregood people. They're really known as

(21:56):
Houston's most prestigious coin dealer. Too. I know my grandfather used to have
a big coin collection. I don'tknow what happened to it. I'm a
stamp collector myself. But walk inthere and you could just do some really
really unbelievable things just to rare coins. So if you want just even just
to figure out the value of it, walk in there. It's safe.
It's secure. They have on sitesecurity. They have individual individual privacy boots

(22:18):
available. And by the way, when you get to there, I mean
listen, they have rolexes several hundredwatches available generally. And speaking of which,
if you want to ever want tosell I was talking to Kenny the
other day, Kenny Dugett, ifyou ever want to sell your watch,
please make sure no. And youknow this, nobody pays more money than
US coins and jewelry when they goto sell your items back. There's a

(22:41):
huge demand for watches right now,and US coins and jewelry they're always buying
and they're always paying top dollar. So give them a call before you sell
yours. Really, just to makesure that you're not leaving money on the
table, because you never want toleave money on the table. US coins
and Jewelry dot Com that's simple.Seven one three, five nine, seven

(23:03):
sixty three sixty seven. Call themnow you can wait to my commercial.
But seven one three, five nine, seven sixty three sixty seven. You
heard it on the Garfield Show. There's a I think there's another. Michael
May endorse them too, but tellthem Garfield Man love them. Did a
little video at their store not toolong ago. There. They're good stuff.
Happy Mother's Day. You can alwaysget him something pretty cool there.

(23:26):
So I'm looking at this list herethe Verge, the Verge dot com.
It's a nice little review science entertainmentwebsite US and often named Brandon Brandon Winter.
A few days ago he pulled everybodyright now does the typical oh what
should we get mom? It's theMother's Day gift guy with a little tech
spin um. They put together alist and I'm looking through this and not

(23:49):
listen. They can knock my lit. I just gave you the greatest gift
idea of all time. I've gota chat GPT and write and have it
write mom a personalized poem which Iread on They could diss that also,
but I'm looking at this. Letme give you a kind of a yea
or nay and I like how theybroke it out between under twenty dollars twenty
to fifty four hundred dollars and above. This is what and again a lot

(24:12):
of us maybe product placement or they'regetting your percentage, but this is what
the Verge has recommended to for Mother'sDay gifts. A garlic crusher, a
seventeen dollar garlic crusher. People, what did I open this show with?

(24:33):
Let's stay away from getting moms anyhouseholder kitchen appliances, been there, done
that, divorced, no girlfriend.Just let's just stay from that. There
is a Lego flower bouquet. Prettycute. I like it. Seven hundred
and fifty piece kit comes to somebricks. You can assemble some flowers,
daisy snapdragons. I like it.These are flowers that keep on living and

(24:56):
giving. Probably maybe a little doit yourself project on a rainy Sunday with
the kids. Forty eight bucks Legoflower bouquet. Here's an I approve that
Amazon Kindle. I did listen toAmazon Kindles. That's the original e reader,
black and white. It's got eink, electronic ink. Eighty dollars
or so. I like it,especially if you like Amazon. If you

(25:18):
use Amazon, bring it thumbs up. Air Pods Pro. Okay, I
think Mom needs some good. Youknow, it's gone of the days of
those nasty, stupid wireless earbuds withbad reliability. Not that I'm not personally
a big Apple fan, I wouldat air Pods Pro the second generation two
hundred dollars. I'm gonna give ita thumbs up. But I'm also gonna

(25:40):
put a look Caalveat on air.Listen, there are many others on the
market you do not need to spendtwo hundred dollars. There there's Well and
I'm gonna tell you bows those arejust as expensive. And there's Beats by
Dre just as expensive. But youcan go get some good ones for fifty
sixty seventy dollars or so if youmake them noise canceling a in c active
noise canceler. Good gift from mom. Okay, you can help her parrot

(26:03):
Bluetooth to your phone. Here isa some phones, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
for moms. May like this ofall the phones. And I'm gonna tell
you next segment or two about Google. Google just came out with a whole
new slew of products, including theirnew Google Pixel seven A and a Google
Pixel foldable phone coming a foldable phone. I'm not a big foldable guy.

(26:26):
See a foldable Imagine this. It'slike a book. You open it left
to right. I have a Samsungfoldable phone, which I don't use.
It is very large, is relativelyheavy. It's neat when you fold it
up because it becomes like a smalltablet. It's not the most convenient thing
for carrying around for men, definitelynot women. But there's a flip phone

(26:48):
that's like the clamshell phone that's likea little makeup mirror for women. You
see where I'm going there. Youflip it up. That actually is sexy
for it because it's small enough. It's compact enough to make it look like
a compact and they could fold itdown in their purse or wherever they want
to put it. But then itopens up and it's the size of a

(27:10):
regular phone, about a thousand dollarsor so. Samsung Galaxy Z flipboard that's
out there too, Okay, I'mgonna give that one of thumbs up too.
Here's a board game that they recommend. You never heard of this one.
This is called I don't know calum. You ever heard of this one.
It's called a zul a zul.The goal is to accumulate a wealth

(27:30):
of points while building an eye catchingmosaic. So I'm not sure what this
is. It's thirty two dollars, which is a good price point. I
like this from I would give thisfor moms if the moms have relatively younger
kids and they want to do ityourself project like the lego so mom can
spend time with kids. Or maybeif your mom is older and the kids

(27:53):
are out of the house. Givesmom something to do. That's what I
would give that one for. Imay be wrong with that, but whatever.
They're recommending an eighty five dollars keyboardfor your computer, I'm gonna kind
of give a thumbs down on thatone. I'm gonna pass over that.
Here's some running shoes. They recommenda pair of running shoes, specifically Hoka

(28:15):
um I've never had. I'm arunner, been running for thirty years.
I've never had a pair of Hocas. Two of my running buddies they absolutely
swear by Hocas comfortable one hundred andtwenty five dollars. I should probably try
Hocus right then, but if mom'sn'ta runner, if mom likes walking,
great gift idea, get her gether some running running shoes, running apparel.

(28:38):
Okay, Apple Watch series eight okay, if your kids have some coin
cash out there three hundred and thirtydollars. I recommend smart watches. That's
not an employance, that's a pieceof jewelry, but it's also it helps
you know, monitor your heart andother health things like that. I like
it. So anyway, these area few of things I'm recommending. I'll
be playing this game between now andthe end of the hill here, which

(29:00):
we'll have about an hour fifteen minutes. Don't go anywhere. If you have
any suggestions that I missed. Loveto hear from you. Seven one three
two one two five nine five zerowhen we come back. I'm ant I
will. I'll tell you what samI have. I have two three,
I have three Samsung watches. They'reactually getting ready to release something an end
a little feature of it that couldsave your life, which is another reason

(29:23):
why you want to get mom orDad or you should be wearing some of
these things too. Also got totell you what not to get mom,
a body scale or a wireless bloodpressure cuff. But I'll tell you what,
if you're a certain age and youhave generally high blood pressure, it
does come in handy. Not thatI'm giving you my hippo away. Michael
Garfield is my name. Don't goanywhere. Happy Mother's Dad. Final second

(29:52):
this hour, High Tech tex Shelbycontinue to wish you mom's happy to be
Mother's Day and he's mind is ofwhat to get them just over twelve hours
before Mother's Day. If you arelistening live, which we do every Saturday
eleven am to one pm Central Timein the southeast Texas area, which is
used in as the home base onKPARC Radio. Also thanks to everybody tuning

(30:17):
in on iHeart Radio all around theworld. Speaking of all around the world,
two weeks ago, I got tomeet finally in person, a long
time listener, one of the longesttime listeners of this radio program, who
does not live in the United Statesand probably lives as about as far away
as you could get. Mark fromAustralia. Mark from Australia, Mark Parrott

(30:44):
is his name, lives in Australia, has tuned into the show. I'd
have no clue how he found it. Fifteen plus years ago. Fifteen plus
years ago. He listened well beforethe iHeartRadio app was around. He listened
online because we've been on line forquite a while. If you go to
iHeartRadio dot com. And I usedto have a live webcam in studio and

(31:07):
he would log in and it's fourteenhours ahead. I would believe he would
call in via Skype, so itwasn't even long distance back then through the
computer. This is how long he'sbeen. He long story short. He
is holidaying. Is that what theycall it? You go on holiday for
a few weeks in the United States. I think he is here eight weeks.

(31:32):
And he emailed me last year withhis nice little Australian accent, Hey,
golf you around it. I'm gonnabe in Houston in May. And
I'm like, wow, okay, well hit me up when you're here.
Sure enough, he was in SanFrancisco, Los Angeles, Vegas. He
flies to New Orleans, sends mean email or something, and he goes,

(31:55):
Hey, I'm only gonna be intown in Houston, like one day.
If you're around, let's me.And you know it doesn't happen not
often, you know. I appreciatehis dedication to listen to me. So
we I had him up at hereat the radio studio in the gallery area
and we kind of hung out thirtyforty five minutes, showed him the studio,

(32:15):
took some pictures. Just just anice guy, you lls. And
one of the neat things that Iget to do and I have done in
this business is meeting people. Ilike asking questions as an interviewer. I
like discovering facts. I like givinginformation. But to meet the companies,

(32:36):
large corporations, the movers, theshakers, the brains, the geniuses behind
some products, along with everyday people, the mom and pop stores who work
hard to advertise responsor on this radioshow. To to regular listeners and viewers
who recognize me when I when Istarted my career on QVC thirty whatever years
ago, it's certainly when I wason Channel two to kind of start my

(32:58):
uston career twenty years ago. It'swhen they come up with me. There's
no reason to be rude, there'sno reason not to be nice and chat
and say hi, or take apicture or do whatever they want. It's,
you know, and that I askedthem questions and so to be able
to finally meet someone who literally livesaround the world who has listened a long
time. Mark. He may Ithink he's still on holiday somewhere in the

(33:22):
United States, probably listening to thisthrough iHeartRadio. Mark. Really nice to
meet you. You're a good dude, and I can only hope and that
you return the favor for me.Shall I ever visit down Under? Because
I will bring the thunder from downUnder? And I apologize for all my
vegemite jokes and shrump on the barbie. But he's he's he's a class act.

(33:45):
And so again they wish if youif you see kind of a nice,
quiet Australian rolling around here in theUnited States, and you should say,
hey, are you one of Garth'slisteners? Mark? Say yes,
he said, he's a good dude. What that we do continue the high
tech texting shows phone number here sevenone, three, two, one two

(34:06):
five and nine five oh. Talkedabout it. We're going over Mother's Day
potential gifts. Smart watch is somethingto get mom. It's it's not a
household of kitchen appliance. It's atechnically it's a piece of jewelry. If
it's a watch, I will putthat in the jewelry category I have.
I am well. I do havea Rolex from US coins and Jewelry,

(34:27):
which I love, but I alsoI don't run with it. I don't
exercise with it. Um. Iuse a Samsung Galaxy Watch, of which
I have three by the way,I including two of the newest Galaxy Watch
fives, which I love. Ireally really do. I saw this that
the Fruit and Drug Administration has justapproved a specific feature for Samsung Galaxy Watch.

(34:49):
It's soon going to be able toalert you the wearer to irregular heart
rhythms. I like that. YEPcompany says that along with the wearable's electro
cardio gam ECG capabilities, the featureis going to help identify signs of a

(35:10):
fib. Atrial fibrillation, a typeof arrhythmia, and a FIB is widely
believed. It to be an alarmbell for potentially major cardiovascular issues that can
lead to increase risk of stroke, heart failure, other complications. And what's
gonna happen is the Galaxy Watch hasa bioactive sensor. It's gonna look for
irregular heart rhythms in the background afterthe wear activates the function in the Samsung

(35:36):
Health monitor app note to sell ifI'm doing that right now even No,
I don't even know if this capabilityis here, But if the sensor picks
up several irregular heart measurements consecutively, the watch is gonna lert the war to
possible a fib activity, and innotivations, it's going to suggest that the
user taken the ECG reading for amore accurate measurement, obviously, and to

(35:58):
consult your doctor. Now, exceptfor the original model, every Apple Watch
they have offered something like this andcertain markets for the past about four years
or so. And I like this. It could anything like this with technology
that potentially makes you healthier, potentiallycan alert you to something that you did

(36:22):
not know is there, which leadsto potentially saving your life. Bring it
on. Yes, I love talkingabout phones and TVs and cars. Yeah,
yeah, yeah. This is thekind of technology that I dig.
This is when I go to ConsumerElectronic Show every year in Las Vegas.
I kind of hang around there. There's an entire wing for medical devices,
and you could bet you know Iwill continue to talk about this, recommend

(36:46):
it. If you have a devicelike this, activate it and check it
out and make sure it works. As we continue the the old high Tech
Texan Show seven one three two onetwo five nine five zero Google. I'm
a big fan of Google, bythe way, which by the way,
Google is the operating system also behindthe wearable watches for the Galaxy Watch.

(37:07):
The Google just had its a bigevent that was announced with all of their
gadgets. Apple does something like thisevery year, is generally in September.
Samsung does it also, they usuallydo that in February or so, and
now Google doesn't. It's called theGoogle Io twenty twenty three. It was

(37:27):
a big keynote, a lot ofnew things coming out. Some of the
things that stood out to me.If anybody cares about and I teased this
a little while ago, they havea new Google has its own line of
phones if you didn't know, andit's not Samsung. Samsung is Samsung,
which uses Google's operating system Android. But Google also has its own phones called
the Pixel. Very good phones,Google Pixel and the star of the big

(37:53):
show the announcement. Earlier this week, they announced that the Google Pixel Fold
the fold which is Google's very firstfoldable phone, is coming out. If
it's gonna have a high end processingchip, the tensor G two chip and
it opens up like a book.So it's a vertigo. And I told

(38:15):
you I have a Samsung foldable phone. Don't love that because it's just a
little too big, too heavy, too thick to carry around. This allegedly
is gonna be much thinner, wellmuch, it's gonna be thinner. It's
gonna be less than half an inchwhen closed, point four eight inches when
close. But it's gonna when youopen it up, it reveals a seven
and a half inch display diagonally,So it's gonna be like a little mini

(38:38):
tablet that folds like a book leftto right. It's not a plamshell phone.
That would be a flip phone. This is a fold phone. There's
a five point eight inch display onthe front of it. Cameras I got
some decent cameras too, pre ordertoday. And man, I'll tell you

(38:58):
what it's gonna be. It's comingout in June, So Dad, this
could be for you, but Iwould start saving some shekels. People.
That's gonna be eighteen hundred bones. That is an expensive phone. I just
I just don't did these expensive phones, man, That's that's just just why
do you I don't know if youneed something that expensive for a phone.
Now, on the other hand, they did release something Google has a budget

(39:22):
phone. I'm gonna call it amid range phone in terms of price that
they just uh give it gave ita big upgrade, the Google Pixel seven
A, the letter A. Itwas just announced and it is also gonna
have that same really high end processingchip the tinsword G two and that is

(39:42):
coming out also that is going tobe about five hundred dollars. So those
are two of the things coming upnext. How I'm gonna tell it tell
you a little bit more about otherhealth devices that maybe you don't want to
get, mom, but maybe youshould get mob And also is car Time
Jeep Wrangler, Rubicon versus the FordBronco Raptor. I had both of those
things two weeks ago and it waspretty cool. One hour ago. It's
the high Tech Texting Show. Yeah, Hi, tex is Michael Garfer,

(40:17):
Michael Garfield. Michael Garfields joining thehigh Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is here
with a high tech text It wasto make life easier new technology. So
Michael Garfield has something you might like. H tex Michael Garfield is your high
Tech Texan. Three decades helping youmake magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide

(40:47):
on the iHeartRadio Act. Now yourhigh tech Texan Michael Garfield. Check the
wax and check your watch. Bythe way, that message brought you by
US Coins and Jewelry, the officialsupplier of a role x Y. Just
to the high Tech text and show. It's halfway through the show. It's
halfway to happy hour. You knowwhat. It's Saturday, Saturday before Mother's

(41:09):
Day. Go ahead and pop acoldie, open and raise one for mom.
And if you are lucky enough tolive near or be with your mother
this weekend, raise one together.Mom may like a little margarita, maybe
a little white wine spritzer. Youmay have a little brown water, whatever
it is, but celebrate Mom's outthere. We are continuing to count down
and give you some ideas of lastminute. Well, I guess last twelve

(41:34):
hours of Mother's Day. We areif you're listening live on kp or C
nine fifty am across Southeast Texas, specifically in Houston, Galveston, DMA,
we do have less than twelve hoursbefore a Mother's Day. I gave you
our number one, the ultimate lastminute technologically advanced cost absolutely nothing. Mother's

(41:59):
Day if ever, I really I'mnot gonna I'm not gonna go through the
whole thing again because I want youto. It's kind of tease to the
podcast. Calum read here, Calum, You're gonna be podcasting the whole show
just in about an hour. Whenwe're done, go to iHeartRadio and look
for KPRC Radio. Go look forMichael Garfield and listen to the first hour.

(42:21):
But what I what I the payoffis use chat GPT, you know,
the new AI, the new artificialintelligence. Use chat GPT to have
the artificial intelligence bought write your mothera poem, a song, or a
sentimental note, personalized on anything. It's it just it really just goes to

(42:44):
show you, if you've never usedchat GPT, how unbelievable it is.
And I did that, and Ityped in my mom's name, my name,
my kid's names, and it personalizedthis. What was it about?
A thirty six line poem? Veryheartfelt. I don't know if she heard
it. She's listening on iHeart Radioand Dallas right now, but you can

(43:07):
hear that. It's amazing. SoI print it out, put it in
an inside of a make your owncard or email it to her or handwrite
the whole thing. But again that'sit's not cheating, it's it's you took
the time to actually type in somespecific things about Mom and use that as
a Mother's Day gift. We didgo through some of the technological items,
some stuff I like, some stuffI think you really should stay away from.

(43:30):
And about an hour ago I startedoff the show of things you should
stay away from, especially if youare a husband or a boyfriend of a
mother. Stay away from kitchen andhousehold appliances. Probably not a great gift,
I take it from me experience, divorce, no girlfriend, I've tried
those before. You just jewelry isalways a great thing. Flowers very good,

(43:57):
they're smartphone, smart watches, runninggear, Mom's an athlete, workout
gear just yeah yeah. Kitchen airfriars and mixers and little things like that.
They just didn't fly well with mom. It's just my experience. I
will give you the number here ifyou want to run a few things by

(44:19):
me. Cars, actually, ifyou want to get mama car a truck,
I am gonna run down that.Next next segment, I'm at seven
one three two one two five, nine five. We do wish happy birthday
to this radio station, The Heritage, one of the oldest radio stations in
the state of Texas, turned ninetyeight years old this week, ninety eight
years old KPRC and I am honoredto have the longest running live local talk

(44:43):
show in the history of it twentyyears and running right now. So appreciate
you tune in, giving you somesome some neat advice. Um, here's
something I'm gonna spend about three minuteson this thing. I do get to
play with a lot of cool gadgetsand items. The health category is really
big in technology right now. Obviouslywe have smart watches and fit watches.

(45:06):
It'll tell you how many steps. And I told you last last hour,
how Samsung just got clearance from theFDA. They're gonna start having a regular
heartbeat alerts just to check you ifyou have a rhythmia or a fib or
something. I think that's good.So there's a really nice company, smart
health technology company called Withings WI th I n GS. And I'm familiar

(45:30):
with them because I think I usedto have a wing scale. They make
a lot of neat stuff and theysent me I guess may is what is
it? Is it it's cardio monthor it's a high blood pressure month or
blood pressure word in this month andwhatever it is. So anyway, they
sent me a body a blood pressurecuff wirelessly, which is pretty neat.

(45:51):
So it's an actual blood pleasure cuff. You download an app, you take
your blood pressure as often as youwant and it just automatic sends it to
the app that you can see thetrend if you're a blood pressure is higher
level. I think that's pretty cool. They also sent me a scale,
a body composition scale. It's anew scale that that just came out.

(46:13):
I'm gonna read you a little bitabout this thing here. It's this Does
you know a scale's a scale?Right? We thought you know? You
step on a scale and it measurespounds at least here in the United States.
They mail me this thing here.It it's about one hundred dollars.
It is called the Body Smart SmartScale. It's a it's a smart scale
and it does everything from weight andbody composition analysis, heart rate, visceral

(46:39):
fat, metabolic age, your metabolicrate, your heartbeat, tells you the
weather outside when you're stepping on thisbad boy, no clue way it needs
the weather. I don't know ifthis is a Mother's Day gift. I'm
gonna tend to say, let's notget MoMA's scale from Mother's Day. I'm
just again, I'm I'm certainly notget my mom why she doesn't need it.

(47:00):
She's a little thing. But dad'skids, even kids, I would
shy away from this. I wouldshy away from getting a scale. This
has um it was just released andI do like withnings, and this is
it's it. Listen, health ismassive, especially as you're me, where
we're getting older. You're gonna monitoras much as possible. Blood pressure,

(47:22):
cust blood pssure monitors are really good. But the scale here, they've got
a feature. It's called eyes closed. It's an eyes closed mode, so
the user's weight is tracked in theapp, but it doesn't appear on the
screen when you step on the scale. You laugh at this. I am

(47:44):
not kidding you. This is thisis something great. I have always had
a little issue about weight. It'swhat I have. It's just why I
was built, where I was born, and when I get on it.
When I started diet, I alwayswant to obviously, your gentlem when you
start a diet, you feel bad, you still if you feel feel fast,
you feel heavy, And I wantto take a beginning of before picture.

(48:04):
And so many times I have steppedon my scale years ago, a
very low tech scale, and I'mscared to look to see how much I
wagh it starts. So what Itry to do is I have attempted when
with not looking, I've tempted totake my phone and take a picture of
the readout of how much I wait. I can never get that. It's
never in focus. I'm usually shootingat my feet or something. It's the

(48:28):
stupidest I know. I'm just stupidlike that. But I love this eyes
closed mode because I could step onthe scale. It doesn't show anything.
It'll go on my app and Idon't need to look at my app or
that that part of my app fora while. I like this. This
is it's a good company. It'sone hundred dollars withings dot Com. Not
an endorsement, it's just that it'ssomething I played with. Stay away from

(48:51):
Mother's Day for that thing, Michaelgarfl We're gonna take a break right now.
When we come back. Oh,I had two massive cool vehicles last
week. A Ford, bronch ORaptor. I had a jeep wrangler Rubicon.
How if you're an off roater,I'm gonna give you my thoughts on
those things and anything else you need. I am your guy here on the
high tech text and show ye indeedthat is me. Mister Garfield called me

(49:22):
Garth, Michael Garfield, don't callme here. She tuned in last Eric,
try it. Let's try to avoidMike. I mean, I'll guess
I'll answer to Mike because I'm probablythe onlyite. I am the only Mike
right here now on the radio onSaturday early up that early afternoon here on
nine fifty am. We could justyou know, just come me, yo,
radio host. That's probably even betterthan Mike. Phone number here seven

(49:44):
one three, two one two fivenine five. Oh, Happy Mother's Day.
Hey, another interesting opportunity to takemom or give mom a gift if
mom is a country fan. EliYoung Band, anybody from I like the
Eli Young Band. There are actuallyout of North Texas and they are coming
here in concert at a very uniquevenue two weeks from today, Saturday,

(50:07):
May twenty seventh. It's the Saturdayof Memorial Day weekend. Eli Young Band
with special guest Nico Moon. Theyare gonna be at Go to Lago Mar
live dot com and get tickets LagoMar Live dot com. It is in
Texas City, So but what arewe gotta buy? Twenty thirty minutes just
south of Htown on I forty five. It is as it's on Lago Mar

(50:30):
Subdivision. That is where the beautiful, beautiful Lago Mar lagoon is and Lagoon
Fest Texas twenty four million gallons ofcrystal blue water. You sometimes see me
post these on my social media.Everybody thinks I'm somewhere in Cabo, Mexico.
It is now. I'm actually inTexas City if you want to call
that. But it's Lagomar Live. There is a floating stage, there is

(50:50):
a massive stage. It's such agreat setting. What a great way to
kick off Memorial Day weekend. Atis Saturday, May twenty seventh. Eli
Young Band Special guest Nico Moon again. Get Mom some tickets right now.
They will sell out. Logo MarLive l A G O M A R.
Logomar live dot com. Happy Mother'sDay, Mom, and have some
fun. I will be out there, so come out and see. Maybe
I'll introduce the ban because we tightyou're from Texas, you could get moms

(51:15):
and vehicles. I do talk aboutvehicles quite a lot. I a member
of the Texas Auto Writers Association, actually the board of directors fifteen e plus
years. I have tested cars ina weekly basis. I do not endorse
them. Anything I do is totallyjust up to me. My likes,
my dislikes. If you don't wantto listen to me, don't listen to
me. But I listened to you. Say Michael, could you test drive
this? Or I need an suvor you know, I need a minivan,

(51:37):
or I need a sports car,I want a muscle car. I
test those in a regular basis.Last week I happen to have two simultaneously.
Ford Bronco they relaunched and came outwith their new stuff. Not definitely
not the O. J. Simpsonversion. They are really cool. They're
head turners. About two years agothey came out with it. I have

(51:58):
a specific Raptor. Now you've heardof FOURD F one fifty Raptor version.
That's kind of the pimped out trickedout F one fifty. So they took
the Raptor with the leather seats andthe upgraded engine and they put it into
a Broncho so now it's the FordBroncho Raptor. And I had that Ford
Bronco when they came out with theirnew version a few years ago. I

(52:19):
tell you right now, they wereabsolutely aiming to go after Jeep customers.
Jeep is an iconic brand. Youknow, a Jeep. All Jeeps have
the tip. You know, it'sgot the grill, the seven vertical slots.
It's got their history back into thearmy and whatever. Luxury brand because
you can get some you know, the the Jeep. You know, Wagon

(52:42):
Ere, the Grand Wagon Ere wellover six figures. They are rugged off
road, they ride relatively comfortable, they hold their value. They were going
after it. When I first testdrove one of the first FOURD Broncos a
few years ago, I'm thinking thisis it's a Jeep. It's kind of
a Jeep on steroids. I thinkthey improved a few things you could if
you wanted to. You can removethe doors. They have a roof atop

(53:05):
that's also you know, removable.Pretty cool but interesting enough that in the
same week I got to test drivea Ford Broncho Raptor for a week.
I also had a Jeep Wrangler Rubiconthen actually it's the twentieth anniversary of the
Rubicon badge, which is kind ofan upgrade thing. Both of them are
meant to be kind of off roaders, certainly would because of their large all

(53:28):
terrain tires. They're they're they're verybig tires. The some of the the
insides that I kind of rubber rizebuttons. I really thought it was interesting
that the Ford Bronco has the buttonsinside when you're touching the you know,
if you want to turn on theauxiliary switches or the lights inside, or

(53:49):
even some of the switches to thewindows, they're rubber because if they get
wet, if they get splashed,it's there's less opportunity for damage for the
switch just to short out or something. I thought a little touches like that
price range Jeep Wrangler, which isit's you know, you know exactly what
it looks like. It's a kindof a compact four door vehicle. Rubicon

(54:15):
obviously the upgraded version. The waythis came back, this is about eighty
thousand dollars or so. The Jeep. We like Geep, but Jeep is
very proud of their prices too,it's It was eighty thousand dollars the twenty
anniversary of the Rubicon version of theWrangler. And then we have the Ford
Bronco Raptor, and that came inaround fifty five or below, maybe sixty,
So you're gonna hit twenty thousand dollarsless head turn factor on each.

(54:38):
The Bronco. You don't see nearlyas many Ford Broncos versus the iconic jeep
Wrangler, which has been on theroad for years and years and years and
years and years. I love whatthe Broncho has done with their headlights.
It is to me, it wasa it was. It's a larger vehicle
in terms of the front seats andthe rear seats and just overall driving.

(54:59):
It's seems a bit wider. Alot of people I remember used to be
afraid, oh my god, thejeep Wrangler. You know, if you'd
make a tight turn, you couldyou can tip over, which back in
the day, I know that wasthey were kind of a susceptible to that
better now then the Broncos, right, it was relatively quiet. The Raptor
version of the Ford Bronco on theroof, it has patting on it.

(55:22):
I was in another version of theFord Bronco a few weeks ago, the
Everglades model, which is kind ofa little bit more downgraded, a little
bit more listen if you're going throughthe Florida Everglades. I mean this had
a towing winch on the front. They did not have inside felt topping,
and it was a loud ride, this ride of the Ford Bronco Raptor.

(55:43):
And somebody even asked me the questionwhen I posted photos of it this past
week, did they help quiet theride? Yes, Ford did because there's
liners on the Ford Broncho Raptor version, not that you couldn't get different lids
or tops on other versions. ForBronco, I think that the rang there
is always fun. The Jeep Wrangler, it's always a fun drive, especially

(56:04):
the fact that you see the bigold Rubicon twentieth anniversary big wheels. This
one was also beautiful because it wasa convertible with a soft top that all
you needed to do was it waselectric, so you just push the button
up top and the top would slideback much much more convenient than taking a
hard top off, which is heavy. Sometimes you need a like a winch

(56:27):
on the ceiling and your garage todo it. Sometimes you need a buddy
to help you out much easier.I did like the fact, and I
do actually like the fact that theJeep Wrangler Rubicon twentieth Anniversary. I like
their top and they're convertible better thanthe Ford Bronco raptor the Ford Bronco Raptor.
Physically, you have to take it'skind of a t top. You
have to take the left side off. It's hard top of the Ford Bronco

(56:52):
now, and I did it myself. One person could do it. And
then you got to take the rightside off. Then you gotta store on,
maybe in the backseat or maybe inyour garage. And then if you're
God forbid it, you're out andit starts raining, and you left your
Broncho Raptor you know roof panels inthe garage, you're gonna get wet versus
well, this is just an electricroof of the jeep Wrangler. I'm gonna

(57:12):
give jeep Wrangler, you know, props on that one. Overall, though,
I like price for a Broncho Raptoror even several of the Ford Bronctors.
They're going to be relatively to someextent less expensive. I'm gonna use
that word. I hate using theword cheaper less expensive than the Jeeps,
and I like I like the headturn factor. They like that that it's

(57:34):
just different, and it's a gooddifferent. There are some cars that have
been redesigned that are just nasty.I just what is I just They're just
weird and ugly car. There's nothingugly about the Ford Broncho Raptor. So
I guess the question is I guessthe answer is if you or a mom,
if you're looking for Mother's Day gifts, if you're looking for something fun
off road, if you're in thatmode of your life right now, if

(57:57):
you're looking for the second, thirdvehicle, didn't matter, go test drive
both of these, especially if you'regonna go off road. If you listen,
there are several versions of the Bronchothat would make it cheaper, if
sorry, less expensive. If notthe Raptor version. You don't need all
the leather interiors and the higher powerengine. You know, go for the
Everglades, go for an Outer Banksversion or something. But they're two solid

(58:21):
brands, and Jeep does have somecompetition. Jeep did not have a lot
of really solid, strong competition. When it came to outdoor fun, cool
looking Ford broncho, it came arunning man and they're doing one heck of
a job of keeping up with it. And so there's my thoughts. If
any of you out there, ifyou drive a Jeep, drive a Wrangler,

(58:42):
you have a broncho, give meyour thoughts when we come back at
seven one three, two one twofive nine five h Simple enough for you,
That's what I do, all right, coming back. I got a
few more of your questions here. And also, who wants a foldable phone?
Google? Just I think i've mentionedlast hour they came out with a
foldable phone, not a flippable, but affoldable phone. It's expensive as all
get out. I hope you gotsome cash. And also cameras, Remember

(59:07):
the old fashioned camera. Boy,I used to have a film camera.
Can't if you're really into photography, and I know smartphones are really strong nowadays.
I got some really inexpensive cameras.I'm really surprised the single digital,
single ones, reflex cameras. Igot a list of these that you or
mom may like right here on theHigh Tech Text and Show. Just about

(59:31):
thirty minutes ago. They're in allminutes of the adult tones of my voice.
It is the high tech text. And shall we talk so much more
about technology? I just gave youthe rundown. I just talked ten minutes

(01:02:08):
a Reem water heater. Every momout there is lighting up my phone seven
one three two one two five ninefive out. I'm here for your moms.
I'm actually for moms. I willgive you. I talked about a
last hour or two, you know, phone smartphones. Has anybody really seen
any anybody ever get excited about smartphonesanymore? Remember the day where a new

(01:02:30):
phone was gonna come out? Yeahmaybe it was Apple, Samsung, whatever
it was, And oh my goodness, I gotta be first in line to
get this thing. People kids,People used to wait in line at the
Apple store days ahead of the line. Oh my god, I gotta get
this thing. How stupid was that? Did they think that Apple was going
to run out of phones? Butlisten, I get it. It was

(01:02:53):
the fomo. If you're a missingout, I want to be the first
to have this thing. You couldhave waited another day too. You know,
now days you can pre order phones. They're gonna mail the things to
you, which is fine because anyphone that's released in the summer, no
one wants to be standing outside ofHouston here and they in a hot humidity.
But but phones kind of the innovationof phones kind of slowed down.
I mean, what else was thereto add? They look like chocolate bars

(01:03:17):
you put them up to your face, or a bar of soap. God,
they got apps. Yes, thecameras can improve, and they've got
all this and their emojis and stufflike that, but it's tough. The
first innovations that I've seen in yearsfinally happened about two years three year years
ago. It was Samson, atleast in America here, they came out
with the foldable phone and the flipphone, which I have both of them,

(01:03:40):
and I like the flip phone becauseof the form factor. It's relatively
small when it folds up to aclamshell. It's bendable glass that you can
barely see the scene in the glass. It's amazing and it's got hinges and
then and women love it too, moms. As I said, dude,
one thing that you may want toget her you looking for a new phone,

(01:04:00):
the sam the latest Samsung Galaxy flipz Flip four four Z. Remember
it's flip, not fold. It'snice because it looks like a compact.
They could put in their purse andthey can do all these things with a
little black dress and heels and whateverthey want to do. Then there's the
foldable phone. The foldables I'm nota big fan of because they're heavy,
they're big. Yes, they foldleft to right like a book. But

(01:04:26):
at least the latest version, thefourth version of the Samsung fold z fold
four still thick. It's still relativelyheavy. I don't even like schlipping around
because I just keep a phone inmy pocket and it's just big. The
But guess what. Google has nowcome out with a foldable phone, which
bears the question when's Apple gonna comeout with it? I mean there's rumors

(01:04:48):
and obviously the Apples all based onrumors they're gonna come out with the flip
phone, and then everybody's gonna goflipping out of their minds. Oh my
gosh, I've never seen anything likethis in the world, even though they're
easily four years behind other manufacturers. Now, well, listen, Napple wants
to get it right. It isgoing to be price so high it's not

(01:05:10):
even funny, but that's what theygot. Now. Google just announced and
then good, Google's got a greatlight of phone called the Pixel. Version
seven came out and actually they justannounced version seven A, the Letter A,
which is a powerful phone. It'sgot a great chip inside. Priced
relatively decent, about five hundred dollars. We're gonna call that mid range phone

(01:05:30):
price, great cameras and everything. But they also announced that they have a
foldable it's called the Pixel Fold.Their first version of it. You can
order it now. It's coming outin June, and it does not come
cheap whatsoever. Again, for thelast four years, Samsung, they've paved

(01:05:54):
the way for really, what thenext iteration the smartphone's gonna look like?
Google, They're here to challenge that, and it is coming out this summer.
The Pixel fold. Drum roll, eighteen hundred bones. Okay, so
I can pay my monthly mortgage, maybe you know a little a car payment

(01:06:14):
or two or three, put itdown from my kids college education or tuition,
or I could buy a phone.I don't know, man. I
think Google's decision to launch a foldablephone could be seen as another signal that
the current version of the smartphone itneeds a refresh. Just like I said,
it's been four years since Samsung didit. Almost every other major smartphonemaker,

(01:06:40):
Oven, Apple has done it.Google kind of held out, but
they said, hey, we needthis thing. It is big. I
listen. To be fair, Ihave not held it. I've seen pictures
of it. I've seen reviews ofit from some of my ilk in the
industry. It's a book style foldablephone. It transformed from a foam into

(01:07:02):
kind of a tablet when you openit up. But like everything else that
they face a lot of the physicalchallenge that we've seen in the past across
the industry because it decreases the devicesoverall thickness when closed, and it eliminates
the decrease. But apparently the folddoes have some advantages over here. It

(01:07:24):
is a little it's a little thinnerthan the Samsung one foldable phones only accounted
get this only one point two percentof the global smartphone market share last year,
one point. It's a new market. Samsung kind of has it here,
but it's still not a lot.The folds cover screens a little bit

(01:07:45):
bigger than the Galaxy Z Folds four, but still, man, I need
it relatively small. I'm anxious tosee this thing thin as thin. But
then again, just because it tsformsitself from a phone to a kind of
a small tablet, is that good? Do you need? You have to
realize. And this is what Ibase my reviews and recommendations on just speak.

(01:08:10):
I guess it's kind of like thedesigners the like, uh, what
is it Doctor Malcolm in Jurassic Park? Just because we can doesn't mean we
should. Is there a point ofthis? I mean, my eyesight's not
that bad. I'm fine holding mytypical phone. If not, I can

(01:08:30):
make my font bigger. I've playedwith that Samsung Foldable four. It's a
neat tablet, but I rarely utilizethat screen size. It's neat to be
able to watch stream TV on itor stream a video on it, because
it's pretty big. It's neat, kind of props itself up with the fold.
But man, I'm not talking outof it, but I'm just anxious

(01:08:54):
to see this thing. An eighteenhundred dollars aren't phone aren't things supposed to
get cheaper. Laptops have been cheaper, desktops have been cheaper, television's got
cheaper. Why why are phones aregetting expensive? But it's maybe it's because
it's becoming an all in one devicethat we have about all on one,
so we do not need a tabletor we do not need maybe a laptop.

(01:09:15):
I mean I kind of do.But the kids nowadays, I mean
they can they can live on theirphones. I mean there's their thumbs are
just just like pounding out all thetext and everything they need. They they
they don't even need to the desktopsthough. Anxious to see it, but
just let you know, people, that is what's out there now. You
need a camera that's different. Whenwe come back. I saw a whole
new list of really cool cameras, the digital single woman's reflex cameras, you

(01:09:39):
know, back of that. Iremember the Nikons Minoltas I used to have.
They're still out there. I haven'thad a new one in years.
I just rely on I rely onmy smartphones camera. But if you're a
rotal photographer, mom, last minutegot ten more minutes, I'm gonna give
you some final advice to tell yourfamily to tune in, because good old
Garf, not Mike, but Garf, is going to give you a few

(01:10:00):

text and Show. After all that, the final segment this week of the
High Tech Texting Show, one lastapp probably say it a few more times.

have to say about that. Thankyou, also to Astounds for keeping my
new website running a search engine optimization. If you need web design or SEO

(01:12:14):
a st O U n d Zastounds dot com right here in the Houston
area, talk to uh, myfriend Steve, Lisa or anybody else there.
They absolutely give you a good goodquote, mentioned my name. Then
they're just they quick turnaround. Camerasare also big. I get a lot
of I don't get a lot ofquestions. I probably I don't get a
lot of questions about cameras, theDSLRs, the action cams, the mirror

(01:12:36):
list cameras now or the compact Backin the day. I graduated college in
the late eighties and I took soI took some of my graduation money from
college and I got an SLR,a single lens reflex camera, and you
know those that's what professional photographers use. You see them at every sporting event

(01:12:58):
or press conference. And you canhave the big lenses, the telephoto lens,
the wide angle lens and all thisstuff. And I sunk several thousands
of dollars into it. And thenthat that's when film was around. Kids
pull up a chair time for storytime with Uncle Garfy. There was this
thing called film, Kodak, Fuji, Polaroid. It was not digital.

(01:13:23):
You actually had to take pictures twelvetwenty four thirty six at a time,
and you had to take this filmout of a camera and then take it
to a processing company. Even ifit was your local drug store, you
had to wait fox photo an houra day. You had to pay for

(01:13:44):
it. Whether you like the photosor not. Oh, that is one
thing I do not mess. Bythe way, what a way. Nowadays
SLRs single lens reflex have become dSLRs. They're digital single lens reflex.
Then you know, sometimes as amirror in there. Sometimes they're now they're
mirrorless cameras, and they do takegreat photos. And you can get these

(01:14:05):
things much cheaper than you ever camebefore, and real quickly. If mom
or it's also summertimes coming up,you travel, you really want to take
some man, I don't really likeI don't I don't like the way my
my my smartphone takes photos. I'mgonna go. There's a lot of things
to consider before choosing a camera overa smartphone. There's larger sensors and mirror

(01:14:26):
lest cameras that lets more light in. You got a much wider choice of
lenses with much superior optics. Youknow, yeah, you can have you
know many f stops, UH,exposure control. Um, you don't need
the AI generated natural stuff. Youcan shoot quicker. There's there's a lot

(01:14:47):
of things to consider. Sony's gotstuff, Canon, Panasonic, they're they're
equivalent to the old thirty five millimentin your film in there cameras. But
there's a lot of things to choosefrom, and if you really want it,
there's mirrorless cameras, mirror lest camerasfar and away. It's the biggest
category of cameras these days. Soif you're shopping for a modern camera with

(01:15:10):
the most advanced features, go togo to somewhere, look online for a
mirrorless camera. Cannon and Night,Cannon and Ni Gone great names that have
been in the camera business forever. They actually recently announced they're even discontinuing new
digital single lens reflex going with themirrorless cameras. If you want a good
mirrorlest camera, take a look atthe Cannon EOS R fifty R fifty six

(01:15:40):
hundred six fifty maybe seven hundred dollars. You can find it online. Shoots
really quickly fifteen frames per second withelectronic mode four K thirty, you know,
frames per second if you're doing somegreat sampling in there in the raw
footage, really nice, twenty fourpoint two mega pixel Hello, twenty four
point two megapixels, really really nice. So the cannon eos R fifty,

(01:16:08):
there's also a cannon eos R eight, much more expensive. That's about fifteen
hundred dollars. But again I'm lookingat price over here too. I could
do I even want I can tellyou something that are over two thousand hours.
I don't even I don't even wantto do that. Action cameras,
remember the little GoPros Go GoPro stillexist if you want to do some action

(01:16:29):
shots, maybe your skateboard and herebecause I know mom skateboard, four hundred
dollars. The latest one is theGoPro Hero eleven black. Is what it
is, Go Ho go Pro Heroeleven black. Great video quality, good
stimulis stabilization too, nice, batterylife I think improve forty percent battery life
over the last model four hundred dollars. Not bad, you know, just

(01:16:51):
you know, maybe your mom's youknow, shooting some you know, you
got little kids, you want toget him riding the bikes or whatever you
go on to your skiing. Ithink that works. Good. Compact cameras
are still around. There's some reallyneat ones. Sony's got a zv one.
Sony I don't talk about Sony alot. Sony again very proud of
their prices. You're gonna get aboutseven hundred and fifty dollars. But the
zv one, it's not like it'sa big mirror list thirty five millimeter style.

(01:17:15):
It's gotta built in twenty four toseventy millimeter lens, very sharp.
That's not gonna be bad whatsoever.Panasonic makes some good wins about six hundred
dollars. And then yes, theystill do make DSLRs digital single lens reflect
You're gonna find these cheaper and cheaperover the year, over the year or
two because they're phasing them out.Cannon Eos REBELSL three about seven hundred and
fifty dollars. Point is, there'sa lot of options for cameras, and

(01:17:39):
there's listen, whether you're a mom, whether you're dead, whether you're just
getting out of school, it's niceto know how to actually do this professional.
You could turn it into a careera great hobby too. They're out
there. I just wish, sadlyI should have sold my real d SLR
camera for years back because I hada Minolta Maxim. I think it was

(01:18:00):
I spend thousands of thousand dollars.I think literally, I'm not kidding you
that the whole my whole gear isset up. It is not worth fifty
dollars or so what are you gonnado? Hey, folks with that as
to take a glance at the clockand timer shows about time. I do
