Is Michael garfil Michael Garfield. MichaelGarfield's joining in the high Tech Texan.
Michael Garfield is here with a highTech Texans items to make life easier,
new technology. So Michael Garfield hassomething you might want. Michael Garfield is

(00:26):
your high Tech Texan. Three decadeshelping you make magic with your gadgets.
Heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio add nowyour high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield just
finishing filling out my application for MegaNetBeast, Stallion's newest photographer. I am

(00:50):
all yours for the next two hourshere on what we call the High Tech
Texan Show. Oh, it isso much more than technology. This is
it's the world according to Garf forlong timers. That was the name of
my weekday show right here on KPRCnine fifty am when I actually felt like
talking about whatever I wanted to talkabout, but then I didn't want to

(01:12):
talk about it. So for thetwenty second year, we still have the
Eye Tech Textan Show, which weare We're going to get to a little
technology ticktok dick toc big news forTikTok. I will get to that and
a lot of automobile driving this pastweek, a lot of reviews into your
phone calls, maybe some giveaways.Who knows Michael is my name? And

(01:34):
the whole crew cast and crew ishere. Callum read is the guy I'm
waving at right here behind the glass. He's pushing buttons and making sure that
the dulcet tones of my voice comethrough all across Southeast Texas on kp PRC
nine fifty am and also around theworld. And iHeartRadio. Thank you for
downloading the appath you want to listento me wherever you are in the world,

(01:57):
except a few countries that do banWestern apps, like China for example,
which, by the way, andthis is a nice little segue to
TikTok TikTok, which was big newsthis week. Did you know You certainly
know TikTok is owned by a parentcompany, byte Dance, which is based
in China. China bans TikTok itself. You know, when your own country

(02:27):
bans your app, there may bea little issues over there. That's one
of the things that actually we cankind of start off there. Your President
Joseph Biden took his pen and hesaid, you know what, We're going
to have to ban inside. Thisthing into law is part of another bigger

(02:47):
law which is above my pay grade. But Congress has passed bill that now
could could ban TikTok. Anyone onTikTok. I am not on TikTok,
so it doesn't really mean much tome. My son, at least I
know all my boys I think areactually they do have TikTok. My youngest

(03:09):
son, he actually makes money onTikTok, and he makes money on Instagram.
He's one of these little influencers. And he seems to think it ain't
no big thing because whether tiktoks getsso old, TikTok is going to be
around in one way, shape orform. But this is it is it
a freedom of speech. But we'vebeen yapping about this for several years and
it looks like it has been done. Last Wednesday, President Biden signed it

(03:32):
into law. It's a bill thatwould force the sale of TikTok, which
is an app, which is technology, which is why I'm talking about it.
The process right now is a littlebit more complicated. Congress passed the
measure citing that national security concerns arewith TikTok because of its Chi Chinese ties.

(03:53):
Now both lawmakers and security experts. They listen. They've said their risk
that the Chinese government could lean onbyte Dance for access to sensitive data belonging
to about one hundred and seventy millionUS users. They could also use it
to spread propaganda. I do notknow what propaganda they should spread if however,

(04:15):
propaganda can't be good. If byteDance starts spreading the word that mayonnaise
is disgusting and no one should evereat it again, keep TikTok around.
That's the propaganda that I've been tryingto promote for fifty plus years. Anyway,
let's get back to it. Thelaw that was signed, it would
allow TikTok to continue to operate herein the United States if byte Dance sold

(04:41):
it within about nine months. Nowthat timeframe could extend to one year.
But this measure is likely to facelegal challenges, and you know they're going
to get resistance from Beijing, whichcould block the sale or export of the
technology. I think it's Uncleariy whohas the resources to buy TikTok, because

(05:02):
it would be billions, tens ofbillions, if not hundreds of billions.
I don't know, Listen, Iknow my listeners. I know the demographics
that we ever at this radio station. We are in a very large city.
Inherently, I know a lot ofpeople who live in River Oaks,
and I know a lot of peoplewith disposable income. What do you say
we pull pull our resources together andlet's buy TikTok. Who's it? Who's

(05:27):
with me? Seven one three twoone two five nine five zero. Now,
this issue is gonna take months. This issue is gonna take years potentially
to settle, during which this appis probably going to continue to function for
people here in the US. It'sgonna be a mess. It's gonna be
a mess. They ate their ownchief executive. He could quote unquote rust

(05:51):
assured we aren't going anywhere, unquote. It's here's what to expect. TikTok
is likely going to start by challengingthe measure in courts. There's gonna be
litigation. TikTok's probably gonna lean onthe First Amendment. I mean, the
company is expected to argue that aforced sale could violate its users free speech

(06:15):
rights because a new owner could changethe apps content policies and reshape what users
are you able to freely share onthe platform? Then, we've got the
ac LU. They've been a big, you know, opponent of the bill.
They may join the legal fight.Listen, the government's gonna probably need

(06:36):
to make a strong case that byDance's ownership of TikTok is gonna make it
necessary to limits page because of nationalsecuate concerns. What say you? By
Dance itself is one of the world'smost valuable start ups, estimated worth of
two hundred and twenty five billion dollars. Did you hear what I said?

(07:00):
Do you don't know how much onebillion dollars is by Dance the parent company
is worth two hundred and twenty fivebillion dollars. Steve Price, dag really
limits Who's gonna ford TikTok? MaybeGoogle, maybe Meta, you know,
thems of Facebook and Instagram. Idon't know. Maybe some of my people
that we're going to gather around fromRiver Oaks and just have a powwow.

(07:23):
We can, you know, bringup our pennies and our shekels together.
It's gonna be a very complicated divestment. What's it gonna mean for you?
I don't know. I don't expectif you if your kids are freaking out,
Oh my goodness, I'm not gonnabe a TikTok. I can't dance
anymore. They're gonna be around. It's going to be around for a while.
In some way, shape or form. It's always going to be around.

(07:44):
Who owns it, we don't know. It could be TikTok light.
But in the meantime, get onInstagram and follow me high Tech tex if
you're not blocked h I G hT E c h T E x A
N high tech texts. And withthat, we're gonna take a break.
When we come back, we're gonnapotentially take some of your calls. We're
gonna talk about grocery delivery through anapp. We're gonna talk about memes.

(08:09):
We're gonna talk about the new Texansjerseys and elements I need to say.
You were gonna talk about the draftthat just happened. We're gonna talk a
lot of cars. I just gotback from testing about thirty different vehicles and
my semi annual Texas Auto Writers RoundUp. So whatever is on the board,
whatever you feel like here on abeautiful Saturday, I am here for

(09:39):
who walks in, anybody who walksin at US Coins and Jewelry at a
top of the hour at twelve noon, you ready for this. Jeff Bagwell,
you got some baseball icons people, baseball icons from Houston. Jeff Bagwell,
coming up, Baggy. And thenright now Roger Clemens, who went

(10:00):
to the greatest college in the UnitedStates of America, hookup wards signing autographs.
Right now, just just go buyit's US coins and jewelry. They
do so many sports cards and collectivesand trading things. And so thank you
for listening to Kate perc nine fiftythe Michael Garfield Height Tay Texting Show.
I was there earlier this week.Actually I was there earlier this week because
every several days this week they hadfamous sports folks signing things. Brian Cushing,

(10:26):
former Houston Texas player, yesterday wassigning, and on Thursday I dropped
by and they had Rudy tkeets oachWorld Heart of a Champion, World Champion
with ninety four ninety five. RudyT. I snapped a picture of Kenny
Duncan, one of the owners. He and his brother Matthew Duncan, they

(10:48):
kind of run the shop. Wewere standing by Rudy T, me and
Kenny, and I sent the phototo my three boys who were dispersed all
across the country and God love myyoungest Adam whou's twenty three and a half,
almost twenty four. I mean majorsports fan. He's in the kind
of the sports business. He responded, who's Rudy T. And I'm like,

(11:16):
Adam, I failed as a father, listen to to be fair,
he was born in two thousand andthat after Rudy T's signature run and actually
after Rudy T left. I believeas a Rockets coach. I've met Rudy
several times. He's been on thisshow several times. Rudy was there and
we had a nice little chat. But this is the younger generation, which,

(11:37):
by the way, reminds me.Hang on, I want to get
next segment. Adam and I werehaving a debate my jin z Son and
me jen X dude Dad. Wewere having a text debate. He asked
me a very interesting question. I'mgoing to pose that question to you and
I want to see whose side you'reon. It's a it's a very generational

(12:00):
thing, says but anyway, it'sit's it's it's really interesting having conversations like
this with you with your kids, because their their thought process just amazes me.
Is just you know, because theyjust they pop out and their little
babies and you feed them. Theyhere, they are, they're smarter than
you. We'll do that the nextsegment. I'll give you the phone number
here. It's seven one three twoone two five nine five. Oh.

(12:22):
Later this show, we'll talk alittle bit about cars. I test drove,
man, I test drove a tonof cars earlier this week. It
was the Texas Auto Writers Association. That is a organization that I am a
member in, and on and uhthere was we got to test twenty or

(12:43):
thirty different vehicles u Akiro, Alpha, Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Genesis,
Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes, Nissan,
Polaris, Toyota. They are allthese manufacturers there, and I got to
to test drive a lot of thosevehicles. If you are in the market
for looking for a new car,I will give you my thoughts. There

(13:05):
were some really neat drive, sexydrives, fast drives and cars, and
there were some that were just Okay, you know this is a goodbye,
and you know it's a good dealand decent whatever like that. So I'm
doing this for fifteen years. Alsoagain more than technology. It's a lot
of consumer livestop that we app abouthere on the Garf Show. Does anybody

(13:26):
do grocery? Cam Calum, I'mlooking at you. Listen your young kid,
you're in your twenties. Also, did do you do you go to
the grocery store or do you doyou shop online and have it delivered?
This is another thing that may bea generational gap. I grew up thanks
to my mom. She was Shedrove to grocery stores. Here in Texas,

(13:48):
we get in our cars, wedrive to big parking lots, we
go to grocery stores. We takea basket, we shop, We rolled
the basket out to the car.We put the groceries in the back.
Nowadays, now it's like, oh, let's go to Amazon and Whole Foods
or AGB will deliver and whatever.I just I don't do it. I
like browsing and shopping. I knowwhat I want. It's easier for me
to go up and down the aislesand versus shopping. And then there's the

(14:11):
delivery charge or is there a deliverycharge? I say this is because Amazon
is relaunching. Is that I guessthe relaunch? There rebird they're bringing back
free grocery delivery. Well, let'sdo free ish grocery delivery if you over

(14:31):
if you order over thirty five dollarsin a new program that they just announced
this week, so uh ten dollarsper month for Prime members, you get
unlimited one hour grocery delivery where it'savailable, unlimited thirty minute grocery pickups.

(14:52):
The Amazon launched the trial of thisthree cities last year. Now it's available
in about thirty five hundred cities acrossthe US. And these are deliveries from
Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh, butalso some local grocers too that they've partnered
with. I say, this isthis is where we come right now.
Technology, apps and algorithms and AIand everything that allows companies to do this.

(15:18):
I am an o G I amold school. I'm an old gard
man. I'm old garf, eventhough I don't think I'm that old,
but I just It's also about howmuch time you have. Yes, I
am very fortunate that I have timefluv. I do have a lot of
time. I like to comparison shop, I like to get something. It's

(15:39):
just I just I want to pickmy own produce out, you know.
I get Celery I get cares,I get lettuce, and I got jlipenias.
Maybe I get some apples. I'mvery avocados. If I want an
avocado, I want it just theright color so it's almost ripe. If
I do it online, I haveto trust some you know, some kids,

(16:00):
some employee, uh to actually judgethat thing for me. I don't
know about that. What's say youon these things? And so, but
if it's free and actually it isfact, I'm a prime member and AHB
as a trial think Kroger, Ithink has trials you could do. I
have never once ordered groceries to bedelivered ever. And I remember the original

(16:23):
key Pod remember pe Pod. Let'sgo back fifteen fus years pea pod that
they associated themselves with a different grocerychange across the country. I think they
that Randalls had picked up key Podhere in the Euston area and that that
kind of went belly up and underthing. But you know, now they
do it theirselves, and and andagain, I'm gonna get I'm gonna,

(16:45):
I'm gonna I'm gonna yell at acloud here because I'm a old guy.
Listen, I love me some agpHGB is is It is probably, you
know, arguably the number one brand, the most loyal brand that in the
state of Texas right now, surpassingwaters and everything. Agb's phenomenal, it
really is, AGIB. Do youhave to have so many dedicated parking space

(17:07):
for grocery pickup? How many Ihave now have to drive around and park
so far away because the first fiftyfreaking parking spaces and AGB are dedicated for
customer pickup, which are never full. We can appreciate parking spots right just
pull up and putch in a code. Somebody brings the groceries to the car.

(17:30):
But come on, man, howmany come at one time that you
need to you know, have thatmany parking space as fault? Okay,
I'm done, still love it,Love you AGB, Love you HP.
Coming back. Let's see if wecan patch in the young little high tech
texts and to go over the debateand maybe radio listeners will help us decide
on which generation actually it has hasmore sway of opinion coming up right here.

(17:52):
It did. It's called the hightech text in the show. But
we do so much more. MichaelGarth A couple back, Michael Garfield is
the name seven one, three, two, one two, five nine five.
Oh, that's how you're gonna getto meet up everybody who's having a
great Saturday or Sunday, Monday,Tuesday, or whenever you're listening to this.
Thank you for downloading the iHeartRadio appso you can podcast this. An

(18:17):
interesting discussion, actually a text exchangewith my youngest son a few days ago,
and I wanted to bring it upover here because it's it's it's a
generational debate and for all you parents, grandparents, kids out there listening right
now, it's actually kind of fun, but it's almost a head scratcher of
you know, telling these young whippersnappers of how it used to be back

(18:37):
in the day. You know,I'm not old guy yelling at the clouds
or get off my lawn. Butyou know, I've got three very sensible
suns. They're all in their twentiesright now. But you know, obviously
it's a generational gap. I mean, I'm gen X and they're pretty much
gen Z, and of course theythink they know better. And I want
to settle this, maybe settle thisdebate. What's in for all? And
I'm gonna use you, my loyalradio audience to help me out. And

(19:00):
with that, we are going tocontinue my text chat on my radio program.
Right now, ladies and gentlemen,I would like to bring in the
youngest of the Garfield clan, highTech Textan version four point zero. You
follow him on Instagram and TikTok withhundreds of thousands of followers. I hope

(19:22):
you continue to follow him because heis very entertaining. Ladies and gentlemen,
the young Adam Garfield. How youdoing? Where's where's my theme song?
Where's my intro? You know whathe did? That? That's when you
get to be high tech Textan versionfive point zero, And it's actually,
what are you going to take overand let me retire so you can take
care of me? That's the realquestion. We got to talk to James.

(19:44):
Get a theme song going, James? This is how long since you've
been on my show? James Simpson? He no longer Actually he does a
beer show on Sundays here, ButI gotta get on that one. Yeah,
you actually should. Actually you couldco host it since you just graduate
to college, you know a lotabout beer. When's the last time you've
been on my show? Uh?I don't know. It's got to be

(20:07):
at least ten years probably. Yeah, I was trying to find the auto
audio it maybe before the end ofthe show. And I don't know if
you remember. By the way,Adam is twenty three and a half years
old, totally generation. But when'smy birthday? When's my birthday? You
want to give out your government onthe radio. I just want to know
what's a birthday? You're twenty eight. I'm not given the year, but

(20:29):
they could figure out you want toYou want to give out your Social Security
number? Two. Yeah, Idon't know if you remember this, but
you must have been You couldn't havebeen more than four years old. Five
years old than you. You andyour brother's cut promos from my radio show.
And I know you have a sultryradio voice right now like your father,
but your voice was so cute.I gotta I gotta find that thing.

(20:52):
That's the last time I remember youbeing on my All right, let's
let let's get to the more importantpart. Adam Garfield here joining us,
the youngest the Garfield boys. Youwere texting me the other day and out
of the blue, just I haveno clue why you would ask me tell
the audience what was the question youasked me. I was at the gym
and I was wondering the bigger culturalmoment, whether it's Janet Jackson's nip slip

(21:15):
at the super Bowl or the OscarsWill Smith Chris Rock slap. Very very
good question. The fact is yourthinking, you know, just as you
should as a media host, asyou are also nice, evergreen content.
And I read it and I'm like, are you kidding me? This is
easy. Janet Jackson's nip slip wasa seminal, unbelievable changing moment back in

(21:41):
two thousand and four, which happenedhere in Houston, by the way,
the Super Bowl, super Bowl thirtyeight. You were a mere three and
a half years old, which maybe why you don't think so versus the
Will Smith Chris Rock oscar slap, which obviously it damaged and it's still images
Will Smith's career. But unequivocally Ithink it's the Janet Jackson nips lepon and

(22:03):
you you say it's Will Smith. Why do you say it's the Janet.
Let's go back to that date andtime. It's two thousand and four,
so social media was around, itwas in It's really infancy. Well,
what app was around MySpace other thanjust MySpace. It wasn't Instagram, wasn't
twittery no, what no? Ithink Facebook had just launched, but it

(22:26):
was. It was nothing right there, But it's not even social. See,
social media does add a key aspectof big moments in our lives right
now. It's certainly that wasn't beforetwo thousand, early two thousands, that
didn't exist. But let's go back. This is the super Bowl. This
is the most watched television event onany given year there was And I'm going
to take a guess, and anybodycan go correct me. Thanks to Google,

(22:48):
probably ninety million people, ninety millionpeople watching the live Super Bowl from
Houston. I was there, whichis no big deal. I actually was
at the game and when it wasjustin Timberlake, and it was a wardrobe
malfunction. He rips open Janet Jackson'sblouse whatever it was at the end of
the song on live television during thehalftime show, and everybody's jaw dropped,

(23:15):
including CBS, the NFL. Andbefore you talk, let me tell you
why it was so big. Thiscaused such a rochus in the takas the
FCC issue a fine to Viacom, which owned CBS at that time, five
hundred and fifty thousand dollars, whichI think they ended up paying about three
and a half million dollars violations somechange now though it is it is,

(23:37):
well, let's go back twenty whateveryears ago, but an FCCO relation is
massive and that really never happened beforewhatsoever. That then the NFL from that
instance, they changed the way theynow currently show their halftimes. They put
the halftimes on probably a five toten twenty second delay. That's number one.

(24:00):
I'm not going to say it ruinedthe career of Janet Jackson, who
had a very stellar career back inthe eighties and obviously being part of the
Jackson family, She's done several thingssince then, but you just really haven't
heard from her. I mean,Herbert, it's totally done. And people
still think when they think of theSuper Bowl, they go back and because
there's only been what fifty eight SuperBowls, they still think the Janet Jackson,

(24:22):
what's gonna happen? Let me tuneinto the super Bowl because there could
be something as nefarious as a nipSLP. Compared to the Will Smith and
Chris Rock, which was absolutely caughton live TV, but it was the
Oscars. No more than eight tonine million people watch. That it hurt
Will Smith's career, but that nowadayswe the way we live right now,

(24:42):
that gen z the social media islike, okay, funny, haha,
that's a slap. It's not abig deal. So I absolutely say unequivalently
it was a Janet Jackson, you, sir, talk to me. I
don't think that. I don't thinka fine makes it a bigger cult for
a moment. But also spot yes, the Super Bowl is the most viewed
tell in program, but it's inthat sports section, and obviously I'm in

(25:03):
that section. But Chris Rock andWill Smith, I would say, are
globally more known than any football player. And and if you're watching like the
US is all focused on football, right that that's their market. They're starting
to do globally, But you're missingthe whole world right now. If you
if you take into the fact socialmedia that that clip of of Will Smith

(25:27):
slapping Chris Rock was everywhere. Everysingle outlet didn't even have to be actor
based. Every highlight page is postingit. It's it's the it's a conversation
on every single TV program. Itjust to me, Yeah, I don't
remember it. But also a nipplenow is is becoming more acceptable the whole

(25:48):
free the nit movement? Right? You could argue, you could already,
Oh did Janet Jackson do that?Did her? Was it proportional by the
way her nipple? I don't know. No. First of all, I
am a big proponent of free thenep and so that's neither here nor there.
That's great. See, I couldtalk to Mike Son, who's old
enough right now, Adam Garfield joiningme over here while we debate seminal moment
moments in our lives. You gottalook, look before you get into that.

(26:11):
You got to take into effect thesocial media aspect of it. Kid,
This is called the slap. Everybodyknows that if you look at the
aftermath. Yes, Will Smith's careerhas taken you know, a hit from
it. Yep, no joke intended. But he's gonna be fine. Chris
Rock has also launched him into havingmore homedy routines, comedy sets, features

(26:32):
that he can do because of this, and now they joke about it whatever,
But I mean to me, thetwo most prominent actors not most prominent
some of the most prominent actors entertainersin the world. And also it was
intentional and this slip wasn't intentional. That was intentional like that that is that
to me makes it more malice. And I would even say malice in the

(26:56):
palace. Uh no, no,forget that, forget it's weak. We
could bring in other crazy moments aboutmouths Spallace. I think I think you
have to take sports out of thisfor a bit. And here's why I
stand by. Yes, it happenedto the Super Bowl, but this was
two of the biggest entertainers. Adamin two thousand and four, this was
justin freaking Timberlake man. He wasthe before Bruno mars come in, the

(27:17):
number one entertainer in the world withoutin terms of singing and dancing, and
Janet Jackson from the probably the mostyou know, the famous entertainment oriented family.
That's oh yeah, half a bit. But even though social media would
massive, you didn't see it obviouslybecause we Twitter wasn't even round back then.
I mean it was it was theTV and it was distinct called the
newspaper. You didn't know what thatis, but that there was a newspaper
story for months and months and months, and in all the TV stations though

(27:41):
they couldn't replay it, even thoughmaybe they did replay it the head No,
actually, I think they put alittle bubble still image. It's still
image. There was a lot ofstill There's a lot of still images over
there. So I get the factthat social media now escalates everything, but
I think in terms in I don'tknow. Obviously, I've lived easily well
over twice your life, and I'veseen some crazy things out there. But

(28:04):
it's just the NFL is the biggestthing, as you said, in America,
if almost it's not globally right now, but it happened to the super
Bowl. If it happened at apreseason game, whatever, man, but
this was the freaking Super Bowl, and it's it just it hurts. It
hurt her career somebody. So Ilisten, We're never gonna agree to you
know, we're gonna agree to disagreewith this whole thing. But I just

(28:27):
think it's Jans Jackson. Anybody outthere, I'd love to give you the
phone number at seven one three twoone two five nine five zero. Whether
you're above the age of I don'tknow. Maybe thirty five or forty.
I think maybe that's where the opinionline actually starts and stops. I think
if you surveyed one hundred fifty yearolds who have lived for both okay,
I think more of them would saythat this slop was more of a was

(28:52):
a bigger cultural moment than nipsilon was. And again, I like about a
meta two before this breakover here, because we have to pay the bills.
You know, I don't pay foryour college anymore. Congratulations, he's out
of college. Uh, let's thinkof your life. You're almost twenty four.
What has been the biggest cultural momentin your life or one that you
could remember? By the way, this slab is gonna be in textbooks,

(29:14):
by the way, gonna be textbooks. Do they still make textbooks?
Did you have textbooks to your ttwo years ago? When you're graduate of
college. I'm saying social studies textbooks. That is going to be in there,
and they're not going to put anipple in there unless it's an anatomy
book, and it's not gonna beJanet Jacks. They're going to do this.
What's what's the number one cultural momentthat and then that you can remember

(29:36):
in your lifetime. I think obviouslyWill Smith after the few look you could
say, Will Smith, I thinkyou could also argue Obama being elected.
I think that was big too.I also think, honestly now Travis Kelsey
dating Taylor Slip, I think thatis massive. Now it's it's it's it's
incredibly massive in the way it's covered. I mean, I don't know if
it's a cultural moment. It's justtwo people dating. When you break it

(30:00):
down, what about the Royal wedding? Would you say the Royal wedding is
that's a big cultural moment too?Okay, Yeah, see when you say
the Royal Wedding I go to theRoyal wedding from nineteen eighty one, the
real war though Royal wedding, whichwas I believe July twenty ninth, nineteen
eighty one. And do you knowI was actually in London her Princess died.
Did you know hear that story?I was there for Princess die in
Prince Charles's wedding. That was waybefore you. I thought I was gonna

(30:23):
have a kid's Yeah, I hopeI have a lot of memorability. You
remember this thing. My biggest inmy life, and I've lived here well
over fifty years. I was nota round. I was around for the
moon landing, but I was areally I was very big. That's pretty
big too, but again it's verybig. Again. I was not round
for the publically. That's one ofthe biggest moments for I think, so

(30:45):
jfk assassination. I was not bornyet for that one. People say that
was a big moment because that happenedat the infancy of television right now,
and that and that's whatever. Butto me, I think easily, and
I bring this up because it's onlybeen in the new cycle for the past
two or three. Let's stop ithere. COVID's probably the biggest cultural moment
in our lifetimes if you really thinkabout it. That's shut down. That's

(31:07):
in fact, in the entire world, everybody taught fair. Oh that that's
fair. That's fair. And yourgreat grandmother, my grandmother, she lived
through not only COVID, but shelived through the Spanish Flu of nineteen twenty
which obviously there was no social mediaabout COVID. There no that. I
can't disagree with the COVID type ofthing. Any World War too, but
not every country was involved. Everybodyknew it, but I still think COVID

(31:30):
goes in there. We're talking atleast my lifetime over here, and in
this one. I think min thatstands out in this new cycle for the
past month or so. OJ Simpsonnineteen ninety four, you were not born,
But I think the way OJ Simpsonthat was the most overwhelming media,
crazy, sensationalist thing that I couldever imagine, and can you imagine?

(31:52):
You can't imagine. But if socialmedia existed in nineteen ninety four, when
I say the Internet would blow upand melt down, there is absolutely no
issue what happened in ninety four. And the day I remember this, Adam
October third, nineteen ninety five,at about noon Central time, when they
announced the verdict, I'm I mean, I'm I'm at work. I actually
had a wheel job back then.I had to bring a portable television because

(32:15):
there's nothing on the internet again, and everybody there must have been one hundred
people gathered around to watch the verdictthat that was crazy. And you do
remember o J. I think,yeah, he didn't do it. I
also, I want to go backto this part, but people tuned into
the oscars because of that slot Iwas I didn't get I don't care about
the Oscars, but after seeing thatclip, I tuned in the Oscars.
See what happened? I mean, people, you're already watching the super Bowl?

(32:37):
Are you not? But that's whyit comes to me, Oh wow,
people are actually interested in Now,if you're interested in the super Bowl,
you're gonna watch it. If you'renot, if you're interested in the
Oscars, you're gonna watch it.Right, So what does a nip slip
make you go in tune in?Or what a celebrity slapping another celebrity on
camera make you tune in? Andnow also you got to think about every

(32:57):
single celebrity that was there too,who posted about it, who was interviewed
about it, who was interviewed fromthe super Bowl Outside of Janet and Timberlate.
I still think the biggest cultual momentthat has yet to happen yet is
when you take over this radio showand all my media conglomberate. It's when
I It's when I take a whiteBronca down the highway for the Actually,

(33:17):
I just you know what I do. Also, I test drive vehicles too,
and I actually was in a Broncowhich stay tuned, and in a
few weeks you'll hear that. Uh, I gotta let you go because I
gotta go pay some bills. AdamGarfield, Ladies and gentlemen, you can
find him on Instagram. You canfind him on TikTok. He is the
the third and the youngest of theGarfield kids, and without a doubt,
the most outspoken. And if youagree or disagree, will you well find

(33:39):
out? We will take your phonecall seven one three two one two five
nine five. Oh h do youhave work to do now, even on
a Saturday. Uh, of coursemore. I'm always grying and thought shot
mist the kids work. I loveyour baby. Thank you for going in.
Yeah, Adam Garfield, if youneed him, all right, we're
gonna be back. It is thehigh tech texting show currently in its original

(34:01):
version of You Over Year right hereat APRC nine fifty AM and IR Radio.
And there you go. A littlereintroduction to the young Adam Garfield ran
a little long on that one,So we we're gonna keep this light and
tight to get us to the topof the first hour. Cocky little kid,

(34:22):
Cocky little kid. Maybe one dayhe'll take over so I can retire.
Who am I kidding? I'm neverretiring. I've never written I'm kind
of retiring right now. We dothank you for hanging in there. It
is called the High Tech Textan show. Uh got? Did you see this
latest meme that's bugging the hell outof me? The keyboard letter meme?

(34:45):
It's it is the stupidest memes arekind of funny, they're kind of stupid.
This this thing is absolutely it is. It's been around for about a
week and I'm already sick of it. I mean, Twitter X it's a
big meme, generating the first sothis latest one is just so stupid.

(35:06):
It's about your keyboard. Users acrossa lot of social media platforms, but
it's mainly on X. They you'vebeen urged to look between certain letters on
your keyboard and really a stupid attemptto decipher a funny punchline, which is
not funny. So let me givean example. Look between the letters H

(35:29):
and L on your keyboard, andif you look on your keyboard, the
letters in between H and L areJ and K as in jk as in
just getting a lot of them havebeen looked between the letters why and I
on your computer and the letter isyou. So then the punchline is you,

(35:50):
you are the greatest, you arethe worst, and whatever. Just
come on, man. Now,Luckily I memorized since I've been typing for
well over forty five years of myI've memorized the keyboard. You know,
it's coirty UI up as the top. You put your fingers in the middle
row as D F G H jK L semi coent. Still I'm I'm

(36:12):
falling for this stupid meme. Lookbetween the letters, you know, V
and N. I'm like, oh, man, so now I got them
on my phone and I've got tobring the my keyboard up. I'm like,
just stop it. Memes wasted time, you know. It's also a
waste of time too. And don'tthink it's like I'm a sour old dude,
because I'm really not. Really.I'm I'm a sweet little boy,

(36:32):
Cae, I really am. Listen, are you Uston Texans fans? Cheer
for your team. They're doing verywell right now. They're doing a whole
remake of cal McNair, who's theowner current owner right now, and they're
they're bringing in his pretty wife Hannahto kind of soften every day the new

(36:52):
jerseys and helmets were released. Theywere launched this past week Monday or Tuesday.
I mean it's like that. It'slike a new a new pope was
elected. I mean, applause totheir marketing dude, their marketing person there,
the chief marketing officer for the Texas, because they it really they did
a hell of a job. Imean they drape up five thousand or ten

(37:14):
thousand pound jersey over the Sam Houstonstatue, way up one I forty five.
That was pretty cool. There's launchparties, there's tattoos, there's all
this other stuff. Okay, that'sgood. It's just do you like the
jerseys though? And then there's thewhole beef with Tennessee and they can't use

(37:34):
the oiler blue. It's just they'retrying to sell you some more jerseys.
You want a true team that justnever changes its logo and it doesn't need
to. Well about the Cowboys.Sorry, you knew I was gonna sneak
that in there too. I'm justpissed because all my brethren in the media
got swag from the Texans and Iwas left out. I did not get

(37:55):
at Texans hat. I did notget a Texans jersey. I was just
wondering if even if they sent meone that I was actually going to be
able to that I was gonna wearit. I don't know. Let me
get listen. I'm a marketing guy, and let me just give I'm gonna
gise some free device here to theTexans. You did a really good job
on the on the whole. We'vegot the entire news cycle and the city

(38:16):
covered with this jersey release. Okay, very cool. E oh, it's
it's neat stuff. You have afan base of loyal Texans fans and it's
continued to grow as the team wins. The team's winning. CJ. Stroud's
a stud, got a great lineup, good draft, perfect. How do
you continue to expand your finite databaseyour fight? There's only so many people

(38:39):
in Houston who could potentially go togames Park, buy the expensive beer,
buy the gear. Okay, thoseare fans. Those are people who are
not really fans of the Texans. They like football. Look at me,
for example, I am a massiveDallas Cowboy fans. How because I'm from
Dallas, but I've been in Houstonthirty years. Okay, I'm just not

(39:02):
a massive Texans fan. The Texanshave not embraced me. You're not going
to make me not a Cowboys fan. But I could like that. The
Texans, the Texans, it's thesame thing. There's a lot of New
Orleans Saints fans here, a lotof transplants from the Kijon state are neighbors.
Why don't you reach out to thelocal fan base of maybe the Cowboys,

(39:23):
maybe the Saints and bring us in. And if you want to convert
Cowboy fans, there is one lowhanging fruit. I am the biggest cowboy
pimp. I am the loudest,if not the only person in the media
top to bottom on any category, not even just sports, who is all
Dallas all the time. I amyour guy here. You want to convert

(39:43):
me, Hannah, you know mydigits, Give me a shout. I'm
a Sish medium. If you goon and get me a little you want
to get put the garfield, youknow, Texans gear on. I am
the high tech Texan. You arethe Houston Texans. Makes sense just in
a plate. Then maybe I canshout out to my blue and silver five

(40:05):
Super Bowl Championship ring wearing brethren andsay, you know what, listen,
Textans a chance just give me onemore chance. I'd say, give me
one more hour. On the otherside, we're gonna do a lot of
car reviews. We may have somegiveaways, got some other technology and non
technology news for you. We're justhaving too much fun. Seven one,
three two point two five nine five. Oh, it's called the High Tech
Texting Show. It's Garf. We'regonna come back. He is Michael Garfield.

(40:40):
Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining thehigh Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is
here with a high Tech Texans. It was to make life easier new technology.
So Michael Garfield has something you mightlike. Michael Field, is your
high tech Texan. Three decades helpingyou make magic with your gadgets occurred worldwide

(41:10):
on the iheartwadio ads. Now you'rehigh tech Texan. Michael Garfield. Halfway
through the show, halfway to happyhour, and you know what happy hours
started. I am a professional,I am I have ADHD, I could
do many things at once, andso a happy hour has started for me.

(41:30):
I am allowed to start sipping whileI talk, especially with one hour
to go. Don't worry, Iwill not be driving at all until I
am so brackish listen, I coulddrink quite a bit before you can get
a little shacker. So whatever youand Bibe, I hope you don't drive,
but I hope you are. Idon't know, lay into the back

(41:52):
of your pool. It's getting hot, nasty, typical Houston weather. And
I do thank you for tuning into the long running high tech text and
show Happy Hour brought you. BuyPapa's p LR rum pop up papas in
Papa Hemmingway. It is Ernest HemingwayPilar. That is the name that was
the name of his boat. AndI think the name of the second wife.
Don't quote me on that, butI think that's true. Plar.

(42:14):
I love the bottle and I lovethe juice inside the bottle. Four different
actually, if not even more ofvarietels. They've got a blonde rum.
They have got a cask strink rumthat has been soaked in sherry cask.
Great sipping. Some interesting and reallyneat concoctions that you can do. You
can find it out your wonderful localstores here, from Goodie Goodie to Specs

(42:37):
to Total Wine at Papa's Blar. Also you can find it at restaurants and
bars, Guard and Grace one ofmy favorite. Just do you remember to
Garden Grace downtown Houston. It isit's massive, Troy Guard, the executive
chef, Elliott wood is the generalmanager. Wonderful steak place, but the

(42:59):
seafood and it's it's big, it'smassive, two floors. But at right
behind the bar, papas pl areasked for it. Papas plr asport.
So yeah, just give me someideas of what to do for a happy
hour. We are one week atone week away from a bourbon happy hour.
It is the Kentucky Derby next weekWoodford Reserve and I don't want to

(43:22):
do that, but Woodford Reserve,it's good bourbon, the official bourbon of
the Kentucky Derby. This is theone. It's gonna be the running of
the one hundred and fiftieth Kentucky Derby. And to celebrate Woodford Reserve as a
special one hundred and fiftieth version bottlethat they only made one hundred and fifty

(43:42):
bottles of it is on sale ifyou can find it for fifteen thousand dollars
for retail. This is just abottle of bourbon for fifteen thousand. Do
you know why they did it foridiots like me who will give it about
it thirty five seconds of on inmedia. There you go. If anybody

(44:04):
has fifteen gird to kill on abouta oluburban, feel free to purchase it.
Feel free to invite you over fora zip, because I'd like to
see if it tasted different than anyof the other Woodford Reserve, which is
a very good bourbon too. Whatelse can we app about how we got
to do it? I have alot to talk. Oh, by the
way, Callum, you're a youlike music, even though you remember back
at Callum before you actually kind ofran the show. And I know it's

(44:25):
not your fault. It's just we'recheap here and we don't license music for
Bump Music, so we don't haveto pay any money. But back in
the day, when I started thistwenty plus years ago, we could play
any music we want is Bump music. And I curated the music here because
music plays a very big part ofmy life. I kind of I grew
up in the eighties and eighties musicis so big. I still my hairstyle

(44:47):
is still from the eighties. Theway I dress it still in the eighties.
So we don't get to do thatmuch now. But music is big
and I just saw the Rock andRoll Hall of Fame announced there twenty twenty
four class of inductees. Calum,do you let's see no, I mean
you've heard of these people, butthis is this is more in my kind

(45:09):
of my wingspan. Over here,Mary J. Blige going in MJB.
Share do you believe that she shouldbe inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
of the Dave Matthews Band. Nota big Dave Matthews band fan. Date
the only think Dave Matthews he washe was an actor in a Adam Sandler

(45:31):
when we just go with it.That's where where I know Dave Matthews from
Foreigner, Not now we're talking. There's your eighties band. Foreigner is in
here. Peter Frampton. Okay, nineteen seventies, baby, I love you
way and you know I don't waitthat again. Okay, what up?
Tool the gang? Let's hear it, Baby, love me some cool in

(45:52):
the gang. Why don't they haveThey're gonna have the original lineup there,
JT Baby well, JT. JamesTaylor leads are not that James Taler,
but JTJ two Ozzy Osbourne and atribe called quest a tribe call quick there
you go, good back, foreignerand cool in the game. That's my

(46:14):
zone right there. For that one, that is the rock and Roll Hall
of Fame. I'm fine with that. And they still think that the rock
and roll Hall of Fame. It'speople get like you. I remember Dolly
Parton was elected last year, Ithink, and she didn't want to be
elected because she doesn't do rock androll. She's country. Here in lies
the issue with that. Yeah,I guess it should be called the music

(46:37):
Hall of Fame, but it's calledthe rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And then I'm thinking, why dothey call it the rock and roll Hall
of Fame, because you know, rock and roll is gonna cool, you
know, Chuck berry Man rock androll, Elvis Pressley, Because there's a
there's already a country music Hall ofFame, I believe in Nashville, right,
So maybe there's different genres of hallof fames, and so this just

(46:59):
happened to be the rock there's thecountry music. I don't know, I'm
going to start a yacht rock Hallof Fame because I am the master of
yacht rock. But maybe this ismore of the music Hall of Fame,
so we just shut up. IfI'm elected into any Hall of Fame,
I'll take it. The weekend radio. Let's talk to yourself. You have

(47:23):
no clue who's listening. Maybe nobody'slistening to you. Hall of Fame.
I am there. I accept thisaward on behalf of everybody who doesn't listen
to my show. It's it's it'sit. Just take the honor, man,
It's just to take the honor. We will talk more about that.
I test drove a ton a tonof vehicles earlier this week. I will

(47:45):
give you my breakdown of some ofthe cooler ones in case you were looking
for automobiles. This is not sponsored. I do not work with dealerships.
These are directly from the manufacturers outof Detroit, out of Tennessee, out
of where the Georgia, wherever theycome from. I will give you that
breakdow down, and I will takeyour calls potentially seven one, three,
five oh. It is Michael Garfield'scalled The High Tech Texting Show, which

(48:06):
we talk so much more about technology. If you're listening live, it's just
about twenty minutes after the afternoon hourtwelve o'clock. A big shout out one
more time to US coins and jewelry, a big partner of mine for quite
a while. Katie Freeway at VossRoad on the south side. And right

(48:28):
now, as we look at theclock, Jeff Bagwell right in the store
signing autographs. Walk right in,let him know you're heard it on The
High Tech Texting Show and go pullon his beard and get an autograph or
get a photo. Roger Clemens wastheir last hour. This is in celebration
of National Coin Week. And ifyou were in the mood for buying coins,

(48:50):
selling your coins, getting some greatjewelry, oh that got a great
man. I was just I wasthere Thursday and I was just like staring
and salivating over all the Rolex watches. I buy and sell and trade in
Relix watches here and there. They'rejust good stuff. But they do a
lot of sports memorabilia and the Hallof Famer Jeff Bagwell right there now.
He'll you there anti one o'clock PM, two day, Saturday, April twenty

(49:13):
seventh, if you are listening livehere, as we continued The Garf Show,
The High Tech Texted Show, What'sall this about? Yea concentrate on
cars a bit because they do coverthe car industry, not paid, not
indoorsed. I will not give youone dealership to go to. I don't
really care about dealerships. This ispure content. So that means I can
rag on cars as much as Iwant, and I could love on cars

(49:35):
as much as I want. Who'sgot evse? How about our another Texas
based company, Tesla Tla. Teslahad a tough week this week. They
had their earnings call and they kindof whiffed on some revenue targets. They
kind of went. For the firsttime since twenty twenty, Tesla's quarterly revenue
dropped, falling to twenty one pointthree billion dollars compared with twenty three billion

(50:04):
dollars from the same period a yearago, but the first time in what
three plus years that it has dropped. Its profits sunk to a six year
low. Listen, I'm not raggingon the company. I've given you facts.
Do we do cold horror facts hereat the Michael Garfield Program. Company
said earlier earlier this month that theyit only I say only only delivered three

(50:24):
hundred and eighty six thousand cars inthe first quarter that was down eight point
five percent from the same time lastyear. I've been seeing more and more
cyber trucks rolling around I've seen I'veseen several cyber trucks there. They dog
but ugliest vehicle I have absolutely everseen. Oh, by the way,

(50:47):
nearly all of them were recalled lastweek due to issues with their accelerator pedal.
They've only delivered about four thousand ofthem. There's several here in around
the Houston area. And if yougot our cyber truck, feel free to
call in and debate and tell meit's the greatest thing in the world.
Maybe I think it's laughable. Nope, not me, not gonna do it.

(51:08):
That's just an ev car. Itest drove some v cars earlier this
week. All right, So,I'm a member of the Texas Auto Writers
Association, have been for fifteen years. That means I write about I talk
about automobiles two times a year.We gather together in some parts of Texas.
There's probably fifty sixty people of myILK who either write for magazines or

(51:31):
newspapers. Sarah, is there sucha thing still as a newspaper. There's
bloggers and then people who cover theauto industry. And they we get to
test drive on a regular basis.Vehicles. They're electric vehicles, they're gas
powered vehicles, they're sports cars, cuvs, SUVs, you name it.

(51:51):
And I generally test drive what aweek fifty two? But I did you
know regularly fifty five to sixty differentbrand new Wins every single year, every
single year. If you know me, you always see me rolling up in
something new. It's because I'm drivingaround in some of these cars. They
don't pay me to do it.This is not sponsored. I don't like

(52:12):
a lot of them. I don'tlike right now. I will tell you
right now. I am a BMWguy, love BMW. My last car
that I bought many, many yearsago was a BMW. This week I
was rolling around my test driver reviewcar was a BMW. It's still a
BMW X two, absolutely my leastfavorite of any BMW I've ever driven my
life. It was not a fanof the BMW. It's just it's it's

(52:36):
it's a four door. It's it'snot a really s dan I'm gonna call
a compact U twill with you vehicle. Uh. There was just some things
little plastic y. I don't likethe the infotainment system, just a number
of different things that just rubbed methe wrong way, just didn't dig it.
See there's my review. I justI love BMDB. I would boy,
but if I bought another car, next car probably could be a BMW.

(52:59):
Won't be an X too though.Say there's my review. What I
h this past week was rolling aroundat a ton of different vehicles, some
of which were very very fun, very very fast, and very very impressive.
Let's start with let's see what didI drive Alpha Romeo. There was
a twenty twenty four Alpha Romeo JuliaQuadrifolio. This was fun. This is

(53:23):
like a racer. I just feltlike speed racer, got the driving on
a track, had to wear ahelmet. Really nice obviously, it's Alfa
Romeo, Italian styling, really nicedriving experience. It's it's a it's a
it's a mid size four door. We're gonna call it the premium segment.

(53:45):
Steering was just beautiful. The brakingsystem was had brimbo. If you're a
car guy or girl, brim bitBrimbo breaks stopped right there at a dime.
The horsepower was stupid awesome, fivehundred and five Horstpower has a V
six twin turbocharged engine and it's it'skind of a Ferrari based engine, but

(54:08):
it's it's a relatively lightweight car.So it was like zero to sixty it
says three point eight seconds. I'mnot that good to go in zero to
sixty because I usually spin the tiresout, which I did top speed of
one ninety one. Didn't get itto one ninety one. I got it
to ninety one. Oh I'm ona track and I'm doing these hairpin turns.

(54:30):
I'm like, man, it's justI really don't. I value my
life and I also value this car. So it was it's beautiful car,
very good performance. If you're lookingfor a performer, and if you want
a Sedan, you don't see aton of Sedan's name, you know,
nowadays there's cubs, there's subs.Is the true sedan. Good job the

(54:51):
Witch Stalantis has really done to thisthing and bringing it here to the United
States, really promoting it. Butit was the twenty twenty four Alpha Rome
Romeolia, which is g I UL I A. If you're an Alpha
fan, you know they're all namedafter women. But it was the Quadrifolio
and it was just awesome, stupidawesome. It was good. That was
one of the better wins that Igot to drive. And the funny thing

(55:13):
is, you listen to me talkabout this and you think, Okay,
Michael oh Man, he just drivesall the sexy stuff I do. And
if you consider a minivan to besexy, I am your guy. Absolutely
got to drive the Chrysler Pacifica.Yep, don't laugh. But when the
kids were growing up, and wetalked a lot about my three boys earlier

(55:35):
and their mom pack in the dayhad a mini had at dad too,
the vans, And I was jokingwith some of the folks from UH who
actually from Chrysler at their parent companyStilantis. Shout out to Kimberley Schultzen and
a few other folks, where wasthis with my twenty plus years ago?
Because this is my favorite minivan andI'm not kidding you. This is the

(55:58):
Pacifica, and I believe it wasin the Pinnacle model, which is the
top of the line. The interioris is it's so nice, the leather
and everything. They also have ahybrid too, which is which the first
hybrid minivan gives you about eighty milesper gallon equivalent, which is nice.
But it is so comfy and someof the accouterments that you could put in

(56:19):
there, and I love this ofall the added upgrades and accessories that anybody
could put into a vehicle. TheChrysler Pacifica came out with this years ago,
a vacuum cleaner. They you couldput in a built in vacuum cleaner.
So you get little kids back thereand they're throwing their cheerios, you
know, on the floor, swimming. You got pets, you're slapping a

(56:39):
dog around pet air shit. I'mnot kidding you. It's it's got a
thing, by the way it was. It's it's you push a button and
the door slide open. I havepictures on my my media accounts, high
tech text and very nice and soyes, I do the sexy Alfa Romeos,
I do the Chryslers. I doall this stuff. Another fast one

(57:00):
too, the Dodge Hornet. Ifyou want to see v okay so a
su these those you know, thoseare gonna beat seven or eight people.
SEEUV the compact utility vehicle, theDodge Horne at the new Dodge Horner twenty
twenty four day. It is saidto be the quickest and fastest and most
powerful SeeU V on the market. It's also under thirty thousand dollars. I

(57:21):
don't talk a lot about price,at least I haven't yet. This is
pound for pound, dollar for dollar, probably one of the better ones you
were going to get for your money. I got to play. It was
the Dodge hornt RT Performance Hybrid. When you think of what do you think
of when you hear Dodge? Howabout this? What do you hear in

(57:43):
your mind when you think of Dodgeor me? You hear muscle. It's
a freaking muscle car. This iswhat the Dodge Hornet is very similar about.
Obviously shaping and styling to the AlphaRomeo. We won't get in there.
It's a lot too long to talkabout right now. Two hundred eighty
eight horsepower the way I drove ithas three two miles of all electric range
because it's got a nice fifteen anda half killer what lithium ion battery seventy

(58:06):
seven miles per gallon equivalent equivalent. It's also a range too. And I
love this because it's not the it'snot it's it's a right size. This
has three hundred and sixty miles oftotal range of total what you're gonna get
when you combine the gas and whenyou got the deal the electric in there,
which is really nice. Dodge Durangos R T hell Cat love that
name. I just like saying hellCat the hell Cat Man Performance. That's

(58:32):
the big boy too. That's fastzero to sixty and three point five seconds
and it's a big, big mama. I mean, it is just and
you can configure They've got like onthe offflint tabement screen. You can configure
it like you're really, you know, doing a kind of a hot rod
association, quarter mile lapse time,a little gages and gadgets easy, they

(58:57):
really do. It's a nice lineupof what the Dodge, the Dodges brought,
the Dodge one't the Dodge Durango,SRT Hlcat SRT Street Racing Technology.
These are the types of things thatI got to drive that I have more
and more thoughts on. If youwant me to elaborate more, if you're
specifically in the market, I amhere for you. The phone number here
on the High Tech Textion Show allacross the country seven one three two one,

(59:19):
two, five, nine five.Oh, we're gonna continue you more
of our talk of what we wentthrough for the Texas Auto roundup right here
KPRC Radio and iHeartRadio around the world. It's Michael Garfield, just like that
big booming voice said, it isMichael Garfield. That's my name. Thank

(59:42):
you so much for tuning in twentytwo plus years of this radio. Yes,
technology is changed. I'm steerheler.I am here to break it down.
I am not AI. This isa real person and voice. But
I try to simplify things like allegedlyall these robots are trying to do.
I know who also is not arobot. Also, he is a plethora
of knowledge. He is a frequentguest of mine here on the radio program.

(01:00:06):
His name is Steve Winter. Steveoperates a company called Astounds with a
Z. It is Astounds in Houstonbased company and you know they could start
with the They develop websites. Theydo a lot of great SEO search and
just a number of different things. He's always a knowledgeable guy. And as
I bring Steve in and over hereis this this is this real Steve's this

(01:00:28):
AI robot Steve I'm talking to nowthis is the real Steve. I think
they invented AI when they invented youin the high tech Texan Uh yeah,
I guess I who As long asI own the trademark, man, I'm
still fine with that. I don'tcare. Actually, who's behind the microphone?
Yeah that's right? Oh he inthe business Steve. Actually, it's
a actually funny jumping off point.AI AI AI. I mean, if

(01:00:52):
you know between Meta, between Google, it's just it's just everybody. Everybody's
getting on the AI business. Isaw Adobe, Adobe Photo Shop Express is
now this week coming out with thisA I think, how do you see
it? Right now? I don'ttalk about the future. Has it changed
anything the way that you do business, your tech space? What are your

(01:01:12):
general thoughts? Oh? No,absolutely, it's already touched this a bunch.
I mean we do a lot ofcontent writing, and in our business
there are a lot of content writers. Well, you know AI and CHADZPT
has really truly impacted that whole world. And you know, so you don't
really need content writers anymore because you'vegot Chad GPT. But you still have

(01:01:35):
to look at that content, right, You can't just have that machine written.
It is it's way too sterile andall. And will it get better,
of course, and you can tellChad Gpt how you want it,
to write it and things that youstill have to personalize it. You've still
got to look at it. Butthere were a lot of I think,
you know, content writing companies thathave been put out of business. But

(01:01:58):
it's just helped us and we'll wedo to do what we do better.
And that's what I see with alot of these technology changes. I've been
through them now, you know,I'm too old. I've been in this
business for thirty something years and Isee stuff and it kind of scares you.
But the more the more it changes, the more it stays the same,
the more people still need help withit, you know, and all

(01:02:19):
that. But it has changed andit will continue to evolve and change.
And all you know with Google, they you know, they're having to look
at their algorithms. Right, itused to be that you wanted to know
you look at the competitor and ifthey have fifteen hundred words, you'd have
two thousand words on your page.Well, now everyone can write content,
create content till the cows come home. So you know they're having to get

(01:02:40):
really more at really good content, content that makes sense, content, content
that people want to read. Andit's not as much about the volume anymore
but the quality of it. Winare joining of the years. So what
you're saying, Steve, if anybodyright now, like kids going to college
thinking they are going to get ajournalism degree, just change right now because
writing is dent well yeah, Imean seriously, Yeah, you know in

(01:03:07):
universities, right, they don't wantyou know, they it's cheating right if
you go use Chad DPT. Butyou're gonna have We're gonna have to learn
how to live with these tools atall. And again just how does it
make life and things better? Butyou know, you got to understand how
to read, and you still gotto understand grammar and things like that,
that it makes sense and that it'sused the boleth content. So yeah,

(01:03:30):
people side of things are still there. You still do new people listen.
I would love I do a lotof stuff. I listen, and I
do television, I do radio.Electronic media is my thing. But I
still write columns and I will andI've always said this, I don't like
writing because it takes me long towrite a five hundred word Keece or review

(01:03:52):
where I could use that same twominutes of my time just talking and going
about because I think when I write, I write like the way I talk,
and it takes a while. NowI chat g TT literally learns how
Michael Garfield writes, my humor,my punctuation, my lipsies or whatever like
that. Okay, that point,I may become a writer like that any

(01:04:12):
But the thing is, though it'slearning that way, it will never be
as funny as you do. Butyeah, so I've used chat gp a
few times, but I still haveto go in and, as I say,
put my own stink on it tomake it sound like me. But
I'm telling you AI is learning andit's gonna be There's there may not need
for a Michael Garfield. You know, I take texting shows. Like I
said, you know what, Hey, you know we we do a lot

(01:04:33):
of work with plumbing companies, hvac companies, you know, things like
that, and I'm pretty convinced,Uh, That's what I'm gonna do now
is start to take some things andI'm going to get in the plumbing or
hvac business because it's gonna be along time until we have robots walking around
doing plumbing work or h va Cwork, you know, the trades.
Like I said, I if you'reif you don't want to go to school

(01:04:53):
and all that, learn a trade, and that's where they're still going to
be. And some of my wealthyfriends own those companies right whether it's pest
control or plumbing or HVAC or janitorial, those are businesses that AI is not
going to replace for a very longtime. All this conversation. I had

(01:05:14):
the conversation literally this week about Iwas test driving a lot of cars and
there was a lot of automobile writersand we were writers who they're scared of
their job opportunity. But we weretalking about the auto industry. You need
to know how to fix and repaira car, the trade industry, Stevie,
that's where it is. And soI concurr. I absolutely concur with
that. Yeah, And so that'swhat we liked it. We love to

(01:05:35):
help those companies because we help themgrow their business. And guess what,
they're busy with their hands doing thingsand they're not they don't want to be
salespeople. We are their least expensivesalesperson they've got. We're working twenty four
to seven in the background on theInternet, helping them build a business.
And that's what's so fun about whatwe do. When my clients just had

(01:05:56):
one today said, look, we'reabout thirty five percent April over last April,
and it's because of the work you'vedone. And uh, you know,
I guarantee you we are their leastexpensive salesperson they've got. Period.
It's a good segue into what astouns. What are the many and many things
that your company of Stown's does interms of the sales and whatever you do.
You have you have trade, someoneis a pest control, someone's a

(01:06:19):
roofer, someone's an auto repair orsomething. Great, Well, you do
need it, You really do needto advertise. How are you going to
do it? What's the most effective? So many people use search, they
use Google, they use email, market and whenever. That's what your company
specializes. And now let me throwthis one out because somebody also asked me
this, and actually it's good,it's it's perfect because you're gonna put you

(01:06:40):
give a great answer. This iswhat you do. You've got a you've
got a Mama Pops store, you'vegot a service company, and it's an
automobile play But they only operate ina suburb of Houston, Okay, they
don't really need or want to advertiseall across the city. And there there
are things like and I'm gonna usethe term geo fencing, where you can
help them target specific areas that arenear. They've explained how that works and

(01:07:02):
explain how you do that. Yeah, no, it's it's crazy what's going
on these days? What all youcan do? You know, obviously,
you you've gotten just your organic whereyou can kind of show up and you
can you can optimize for certain areas, you can do paid ad words for
certain areas. You've got your GoogleLocal, your Google business listing for local
areas. But the other one that'sreally cool is geo fencing. Right,

(01:07:25):
so if if we can go offand section off an area by zip code,
by geography, by whatever it is, and target people if they've got
their cell phone or their IP addressor whatever in that zip code, we
can target them and retarget them withads and you know, very specific to
what that business is. And youknow, one of them were having fun

(01:07:46):
with right now we're getting ready todo it is around Uh. They've got
a pool cleaning service and they alsodo Mosquito Systems. Okay, well what
you know, so what we wantto do is target the pool stores and
everyone who has a pool and ina certain zip code, and we can
literally go and then send ads tothose folks, whether it's on their phone,

(01:08:10):
their you know Internet of things, you know, with with with Google,
with with whatever it might be,on their television. It's just amazing
what you can do these days andhow targeted you can get to help grow
a business. It makes sense, and there's a lot of companies out there
who really don't really want to gettheir message out on a wide swath.

(01:08:32):
You know. Maybe it's just alocal bagel company that operates on the northwest
side, or maybe it's just alawn service that they're not going to slep
it everywhere. That's where the GEOtargeting you know, you know comes in.
It's very it's you know, abroadcast TV. It's very difficult.
Yes, you can advertise on cable, but listen, a lot of people
get their information from two places radioads, thank you very much. Yeah,

(01:08:54):
and then also obviously on the searchstuff, and they do they need
help. Listen, bagel maker, lawnmowers, god love them, and they
probably they're they may be smart enoughto actually figure out how to do the
geo fencing and target, then arethe time. It's about the time,
Listen. They need to concern theirtime with their expertise with their businesses.
That's why they hire companies like usowns absolutely, you know, and this

(01:09:16):
stuff we we learned stuff every day, and you think that this technology isn't
changing almost by the minute. It'scrazy what's going on. You know,
it's hard enough. We've got ateam of people doing this stuff and for
us to keep up with it allthe time, and we're learning new things,
and you know, people reaching upout to us with just some incredible

(01:09:36):
things that are going on these daysfrom a marketing perspective, and how you
can leverage your website and so youknow, and then you get you know,
I had another friend of mine. They're unhappy, you know, with
the website and stuff like that. They're saying, yeah, we can't be
found. And it was you knowthat where the site was set to no
index, no follow, which formy layman terms is it was you know,

(01:10:00):
totally hidden from Google, you know, and how people just don't know
these things and how to put theright settings on websites and stuff. But
that's what we do. We worryabout it so you don't have to.
That's a great slogan. And withthat I am going to in the conversation,
but not before I said, hey, listen, if anybody wants to
get in contact with Steve Winter, who runs a stounds in the Houstonaria,

(01:10:23):
how do we get touched with them? My friend A s t O you
NDAs and dog zsn Zebra dot com, Stowns dot com is how you reach
us. You'll see my ugly mugon the face of it right there our
phone number. We are extremely responsive. If you reach out to us,

mug. You can put my one. I'm on that website. That's really
going to steer with some of yourcustomer staff. Make me pretty at least
I sound the some of the readyto Steve Winner. Always a pleasure talking

(01:12:21):
I G h T E c hT e X A n instertot block and
you can actually see what I've beendoing, what's going on in the world,
and some of my thoughts and takes. About fifteen twenty minutes ago,
I was kind of give you theupdate of some of the cars and vehicles
that I was driving in my semiannual big event from the Texas Auto Writers

(01:12:44):
Association earlier this week. I gaveyou kind of the rundown of some of
the fast cars, the Sexy Mini, the Chrysler Pacific Emittings minivan. That's
a good minting, man, man, I'm not kidding. Yeah. Well,
also did the Hadid Alpha Romeo, some Dodge Hornet speedy stuff. I
gotta say. I'll say it again, don't sleep on Genesis. The more

(01:13:08):
and more Genesis cars that I drive. Genesis is just doing so well.
I mean they you know, howlong have they been in the United States,
so it's in twenty whatever years. You know. It kind of came
out slow, high unday, youknow, the high end stuff. But
Genesis really really impressive what they've beendoing. I got to drive in two
real different versions of the Genesis inG seventy. That is a four door

(01:13:30):
sedan. You don't see a lotof sedans now because you know, there
are a lot of SUVs and cuvs. But I was in the two point
five liter and I drove the twopoint five Leader, which that's the engine
size. Get driving around and I'mreally about to pick up. I mean,
if I'm putting my foot on thegas, I want some get up
and go pedal to the metal. And I'm thinking, okay, this is
good. So I get into thethree point three meter turbo, same body

(01:13:56):
style. This just has a biggerfreaking engine. Talking. Yeah, if
you're gonna spend some money, wouldyou just get some power? Do test
drive that? If you're looking fora SA Dan good size, you know
to two. Obviously you got twopeople in to fry, three people in
the back, eased to get acar seat into. Man, this thing's

(01:14:17):
got some get up and go,Get up and go. Love the three
point three meter turbo Genesis. Ithink they did a really nice job.
Got to drive in some Toyotas andLexus. I don't do a ton of
Toyota and Lexus, uh, butI was very impressed with a lot of
the stuff that I was driving inthe new Cameri x S. This is

(01:14:38):
the twenty twenty five, just little. This may have been the only one
they have in Texas so far.Ver the key you want, you want
to car that in a brand anda model and a badge that that just
lasts forever. Toyota Camri, It'shard to beat. This one has it's
it's very powerful too. Very impressedwith the camera. That was pretty fun.

(01:15:01):
The Lexus also, there were likethree different Lexus. Is it lexus
is or Lexi? I don't knowthe proper way to actually pronounce that.
If it's if it's poor. Iwas in a new four. I was
at a four point fifty plus hybrid, but I got the play around in
the five hundred eight, which isa hybrid two. I love the fact

(01:15:26):
that Lexis went away finally from theirtouchpad to control their infotainment system, which
was a freaking death trap for yearsand years because instead of you got to
take your eye off the road, and you gotta take your finger and you
gotta use a mouse type of that'sgone. This thing's big. This is
a big suv, the five hundredfrom Lexus. It is comfortable, the

(01:15:47):
infotainment system is awesome. The pickupis great and very easy to steer.
So Lexus Lexus is nice. Soit's really nice to be able to drive
in some of that. I gotthe new Frius. Frius was like the
first, Oh man, look atthis, it's like kind of an electric
car you get to drive in.Very impressed with the Prius too. It's

(01:16:08):
got great, great range. Solisten, I know I l a am
two hours and I've been covering alot of this stuff. If you're specifically
