and call our good friend Chris motherfatherNelson, who has just returned from one
(04:27):
of the most lucrative fishing tournaments inthe world from the Eastern Seaboard, I
think they call it the Outer Banks, where he was fishing with Michael Jordan,
DJ Khalid and fishermen from all overthe world. Millions of dollars on
the line, and we're going tocheck it with him. And of course
we'll be seeing him this weekend overat the Pub Fountains where another Erskine Entertainment

show. It's the album release partywith Rody Lane. Had a chance to
talk with aj Vallejo from Rody Laneand Tennis Entertainment just last night and we
debuted some of the new songs offthe brand new album Paint His Gold.
So we'll do an encore presentation ofthat, but first we're gonna jump on
the felines and talk with our goodfriend Chris. Now he's up. No,
(05:16):
it's not a school night for him. He's probably in the pool with
the gang. I think they.I think after fishing in the tournament,
he came home and he had togo fishing again. It's hotball time with
your uncle. Oda's Radio's Test Kitchen. Meat from fraudulent farm animals just won't
make the cut in the New America. So if you have a personal relationship
(05:40):
with the chicken fried Steak, you'reabout to go through a breakup. It
won't be easy. But in theNew America, everything has to be fair
and equal. To prove it,we all get to weigh up to a
comfortable ninety pounds. You look great, do you work out? It's a
different life, more like little houseon the prairie than a twenty eight lane

freeway. But you'll dig it badwhen the only planes flying are for government
people. You'll be in something batterypowered. It's just better that way.
Okay, that's better. Now let'sget back to that no chicken fried steak
part again. Let that sink infor just a minute. It's for a
good cause, say the scientists, who all agree that unless you're freezing in
(06:25):
the dark, you're part of theproblem too. And to complete the picture,
we'll need to replace those old fashioned, selfish it's all about me funerals
with a new and much more fairmass grave approach. That's what solar powered
bulldozers are for, to kind ofpush all those worn out ones into a

(08:18):
what do you do it? Welcomeback? Uh, you've been gone,
Yeah, I've been gone, man, I've been doing something. Yeah.
So you went out in the bigfishing tournament off the what are they what?
It's the biggest, it's the biggesttournament in the East Coast. It
was like six million dollars in PRIs. Michael Jordan and Dju what's his name,
(08:46):
the basketball player, Michael Jordan.Yeah, yeah, he wanted like
a few years ago he won likefive million dollars. It's his own tournament,
right, Yeah, he killed it. But this year was hard,
man. The weather was the weatherwas shot. So in Texas we don't
go out when it's past three feet. We're not mad. We're not that
(09:07):
mad. Adam, did you sentme pictures of eight foot swells and you
all look like you were green atthe gills. So the smallest season,
we were fishing him with five foot. The most were ten to twelve.
But when we tried to sleep outthere in Hatteras, it was like one
hundred and twenty miles from the dockwe went to. It was fifteen foot
twelve to fifteen foot seas. Itwas the craziest. It was like the
(09:31):
perfect storm. Like but but wewere with Robert Arrow from Wickituna and he
fishes the outer banks and that's justwhat they do. They fish in these
huge seas all the time. Sowe're like, are we sure we should
be out here? And he's like, what was Forrest Gump's buddy's name?
They got in the wheelchair, CaptainDan, Captain Dan. He was like,
(09:54):
ah, we're at it boys. When I was like, we're gonna
die out here. Yeah, Butbut it was amazing. But you're not
You're not You're not in like aski boat. I mean, you're in
a how big was about your on? It was a forty foot forty four
foot topaz. It's a sport fisher, two bedrooms, no shower or the
(10:16):
whole thing. But you tried towalk around and there it was like playing
pinball. It's crazy. It wasabsolutely crazy. I've never fished in anything
like this in my life. Nowis where we get them all? Everybody?
Who who what wicked? What doesthat mean? And who are those
guys? So there's a TV showon Discovery Channel and that geo it's called
(10:37):
Wicked Tuna. He's on the OuterBanks episode, which is in North Carolina,
and they he's actually there was fourseasons and he won two of the
four seasons. He won his lastseason while we were fishing a tournament together
in Saint Croix, Virgin Islands calledthe Danes and Dudes, and we smashed
it. We got second place overall, uh, first place second day,
(10:58):
Like we smashed it. How farout you go here? So yeah,
the Outer Banks is it's gangster manis. It's not protective, like to
go from Mexico like day fish everyday and five foot to tend to see
that's just what they have and thatwe you know, we're like, oh
it's three foots. We're not goingon. It's crazy. I called all
(11:18):
my buddies and decks Is. I'mlike, hey man, we're a bunch
of pans. I'm just gonna tellyou that right now. What these guys
do out of here in these watersis insane. But there's three usters.
There's also you know, five milliondollars on the line. You know,
first person back to the dock witha marlin over five hundred pounds, no
questions asked, get and if theyget the biggest marlin two it's three point
(11:41):
six million dollars first one back tomillion bucks. Million bucks. Yeah.
So you go out there on thefirst day or the sixth day, there's
six days of fishing. You fishfour, you have two lay days.
Everybody took the same late days becausethere was two days where it was real
crazy. So everyone's at the dockpartying. But it was only like one
boats that went out out of threehundred on those lay days. Let's put
(12:03):
us this way. Everyone's like,oh, you didn't catch anything, you
didn't win. Oh you did horrible. There's three hundred boats and only fifty
of the three hundred boats boarded fish. So I mean you, well,
so now there's two No, there'swahoo, there's dorado, there's all these
side pots that you can get into. But we didn't want that. The
(12:24):
big money was the marlin, firstone to the dogs, and so you
know, we could have gone andgot points and caught a bunch of little
marlins and released them and got pointsand got dailies and you could probably pull
in a half million to seven hundredthousand on that. But we were like,
no, we're going We're going forEl Chapo. You know what I
mean, Let's do it. Sowe were dragging big black barts and we
(12:48):
were we just wanted the big,big fish the whole time. And it
was I mean, it was itwas hard. We had one fish hit
on the last day. About anhour into fishing. On the last day,
we had something massive hit the rightlong and it broke the whole outrigger.
It sounded like a gunshot snapped andshot back and and uh so we
(13:11):
started releasing the shotgun line like tryingto get him, and he hit that
we just couldn't get him, youknow. So that was our really only
one big hit. And you mightgo out there for two weeks and only
get one hit, you know, you're just it, it's just it's just
hard fishing. Man. Well you'reyou're using a guy who knows his way
around. This is his backyard.Oh yeah, he fishes these waters every
(13:35):
day. Okay, yeah, andhe's like, you know, look,
and then his boat broke down butbefore we got there, so we spent
fourteen hours in a hole trying tofix this thing. And we thought we
fixed it, we went out andafter about three hours we lost all the
oil pressure. And so we fishedthis whole tournament on one engine, doing
eight knots in a four knock current, which means we're really only going four
(13:58):
knots but against one hundred and twentymiles. Oh, it was. It
was brutal man. But I tellyou what I don't Marlin takes a lot
less come in Cabo and Costa Ricaand all that. But then you have
someone doing all the work for you, you know what I mean. You
have you know, decans that aredoing everything. You just sit there and
drink beer and real and fish. But this was this was the real deal.
Man. We were we were hustling, we were working hard. Man.
(14:20):
We got like two hours sleep aday, and it was fifteen foot
seas while we were trying to sleep. And it was. It was brutal,
man, It was. It was. It was brutal. North Carolina
kicked our ass. But if it'sback in there and there and there,
(14:41):
I have to know. So sureyou're out in the pool. So you
just got interrupted. Who was it? And what did they ask you?
Because Davis Playla he's looking for needof those flyers for the Tiki Georgians on
keeping or see ninty Tea drinking runningout on the Highland in the golf from
(15:07):
Mexico killing time up on the fooddeck, winding board brand show loped down
over to the youth box, puther in a bucket, changing so her
dancing on the food tables, lookinglike her richen shamming, she said,
feeling magic words for me. Doyou like the fish yester? Night?
(15:31):
She said? The rents are runningoff Boliver rob before daylight. I was
standing in a stay in a shopplaying, Oh my god, she's the
one, she said, A loadhim up, being the big up trunk.
What's the matter of the cat?Got you come for my mom's good
(15:52):

free backer dog, wild as amarch hair, looking like a mule,
kicking in my style, drinking allthe wild those times, Smooth as a
(16:12):

nothing in the world where we comefrom. Hotter and a three backer dog
(16:49):
and a big old being convertible blueTexas Northern in her hair, coming down
the coast from her beach house, doing what I could. I'm sad and
as they're all the heavens inficience anddrinking and carrying on that to night,
she said, jumping back after bootdisk sign And I see you on down
(17:11):

because you'll holler and a Breathbacker gowild is a marsh hair bucking like
a muking in my stall, drinkingoff the wilds time smooth and a box
(17:37):
in a hand house with a newchin chilling post. There ain't nothing in
the world a week come from potteringand breatheback and go. There ain't nothing
in the world where we come frompott a three backer go. This is
the Elpbawn teach Show. Alright, alright, alright in the nine one one
(18:04):
garage door service style kind of studiosfor all your garage door. Garage door
opened seven fifty eight twenty on thephone with Chris motherfather Nelson, and he
has just returned from one of themost prestigious fishing tournaments in the world.
Uh. And while you guys didn'twin it, you showed up and you
showed strong along with the guys fromWicked Tuna and Heather Smith from Heather Smith
(18:30):
Outdoors. Now the tournament itself, the one who won, the one who
won there was a bit of acontroversy, and it actually removed and awarded
the price to second place. Uh, it made the national press. So
let's let's address that the boat broughtin the biggest marlin was called Sensations,
(18:51):
correct, Yes, yes, thatwas my buddy, Captain's friend Scooter was
on that boat. And they calledus and they're like, so when you
catch fish, you have to callinto the tournament fish on, and you
have to turn a gate, aGoPro off, you have to start recording
it nice, everything has to berecorded. So they're like fish on its
thirty minutes before the cutoff the lastday of the tournament, so there was
(19:14):
thirty minutes in the whole tournament, and these guys took up with the monsters
like six hundred and eighteen pounds, six hundred and twenty pounds something like that,
and they're like fish on. Soit doesn't matter as long as that
fish hit before the end bell atthree o'clock, then you can fight it
till two weeks. It doesn't matteras long as how long does it take
(19:37):
to fight a fish that bag.Well they did six hours, okay,
but they did six hours and theyfought it. But the problem was.
When you're reeling in a wounded fish, all the predators in the ocean are
like, ooh, easy killed,So they you're fighting. You're not just
fighting the fish, You're trying toget it in fast before everything else tries
to get which which is what happened. So the the winning marlin was But
(20:03):
don't get it twisted though. Don'tget it twisted though. If if you
have a fish on and it's sixhundred feet down and it's fighting you,
all the other fish are trying tokill it, and so they're chasing it
on top of you, fighting itsjaw and pulling it back. So sometimes
these fish have heart attacks. Theycan't handle it. Maybe with the heart
explodes and they you know, andyou pull in a fish it's dead,
(20:26):
but it wasn't that. It wasdead when we pulled it in. If
you catch this fish and it dieson its way up, it's okay as
long as it's not a mutilated fish. So it came up with it came
up dead with bites all over itfrom the sharks. So that's why they
did continue. That's why they dida lot of the tournament. A lot
(20:48):
of these tournaments will buy insurance onthese things that he'll pay out the payoffs
on it. So if you know, you have to go by the guidelines
of the insurance company and what they'llpay out like that. So it's a
lot to it, man. AndI mean, this is the biggest tournament
on the East Coast. This fishermanfrom all over the world. There was
probably thirty boats that were over twentymillion dollars, you know what I mean.
(21:11):
This is the best fisherman in theworld that's coming here to fish this
thing, or from everywhere you canthink of, and they all come here.
They'll put their boats on cargo shipsand ship it over here from Panama
or wherever, and they'll come fishto this tournament. It's a it's a
it's a very big deal. Whatmy favorite part about the whole thing was
is the whole city's into it.Like it's not just like, oh,
(21:32):
there's a tournament going on and afew people know about it. The entire
city shuts down. There's flags onevery street. So we went to go
pick up Heather Smith Outdoors needed awhat's it called a you shoot in your
mouth, you know, from asthma. So she called they called her in
an inhaler and we get there andthey're like, oh, it'll take an
(21:53):
hour. And where I listen,a front of ours is weighing a fish
right now, so we need toget them. They're like, oh my
gosh, let me help you.How big the finish, Like the whole
city shuts down and is a bigpart of this thing. There's seven hundred
people down there taking pictures at thedock of every fish that's weighed in.
And uh for first place for alittle while was a Houston boat there from
(22:15):
the Woodlands and they're called c Studentsand they ended up in third place and
they I mean, they made abig check and uh so, let me
tell you something was crazy. Sothe person that was in first place,
that sensation would have bumped out ofit one And I wish they wouldn't know
because when they were so. Idon't know if you know anything about maritime
(22:36):
law, but if you're cruising inand you see a boat that's in distress
by law, you have to stopand help them. You have to.
So listen, these guys came flyingin and the guys that won the whole
thing, the boat was called Sushi, so they were coming in and h
then no whatn't sensation? It wasI forget the name of the boat,
(22:59):
but they were brought down and sothey're all on the walkie talkies and the
TV's like, hey, we're brokedown. We need help. And he's
like, hey, listen, there'smore boats coming in. Sorry, I
can't help you. I've got togo weigh in a fish. And they
were like, what are you kidney? Right now, there's ten foot seas
were getting tossed around, were deadin the water, and they've passed them
up and left them, which isagainst the law, much less, the
(23:22):
wrong thing to do and bad sportsmanship. Bad But do you know why they
were in such a rush to gowhat they were going to go? Weigh
in? What a ten pound mahi? Mind? It was a side.
It was a side. Pol Yeah, it got him a thousand dollars for
the Mahi of the day. That'sit. It was a thousand dollars.
(23:45):
They risked these people's life forards, and those are the guys that ended up
winning the Marlowe. Everyone everyone's upsetbecause they didn't care about these people's lives.
They just you know, So it'sthe whole thing's a bad and the
people that we're in first place thatwe're gonna get bumped out by sensation.
They're like big time lawyers, andso they were like same, they were
(24:06):
gonna sue and this and that, like it was. It was this whole
like being on the inner iner circleon that and knowing all the all the
all the all the crap that's goingon between them all it was. It
blew my mind. Man, moneymakes people actual, really beard. So
this boat sushi with a fleet fullof shooter but Gavin lawyer type guys.
(24:26):
Where are they from? I don'tknow where they're from, but they ended
up winning I think like a billionand a half or close to a two
million dollars. And and then noteven just that they had a decand that
had stolen a buck. I don'tknow if I should be saying this.
They had a decand that had beenstealing. They got caught stealing a bunch
officiers or something like that off someoneboat or whatever, and it had warrants
(24:48):
for their arrest. So apparently thecops were waiting for them to come to
the doctor with it's just so theycould arrest the deckhand. Well, you
know, maybe all their hair fallout their penises shrivel up in there,
jockey shorts be infested by a thousandfleas. There was a budget. It
was crazy, man, it was. It was. I mean I fished
(25:08):
a lot of tournaments, man.I fished the King Masters in Blucky and
then stayed and did the Missisippi billFish Classic, and I fished the Davis
and Dudes in Saint Croy, VirginIsland. But none of them blew my
mind like this tournament. The entirecity is in on it. Man,
it was. It was so cool, man, it was so cool.
Every uber you went into, everybartender, every waitress, every buck boy,
(25:30):
everyone was like big rock, bigRock, fig Rock, and the
whole city just lit up. Man, it was. It was. It
was freaking amazing. Well we alreadythought you were a rock star here in
Houston anyway, buddy, but itwas. It was. I'm sure quite
an experienced to be a rock staron the Eastern Seaboard. The tournament is
called what it's called the Big RockMarlind Tournament, the Big Rock. Just
(25:53):
that was cool. I got tofish with Robert Earls Contuna Outer Banks.
You know, he's one two outof four episodes. He's such a badass
and we did it with a brokenengine man. We had no choice,
you know, it's just what happened. Boats man break out another thousand.
That's what it stands for. Theboat is just a hole in the water
that you jump money onto. Andwe get there and he'd been working on
(26:17):
it for five days trying to getthis transmissing straight. So I got I
roll my fleas up and jumped inthe hole of him and we worked on
that boat for fourteen hours. Weturned around and fish. It was it
was. It was hard, butI learned a lot on the trip.
I learned a lot of mechanical stuff. I learned how to how to do
a lot of marlin fishing. Andit was it was amazing. It was
(26:38):
a It was a great experience.I know you represented as well. You
were out there with Heather Smith andHeather Smith outdoors. You were out there
with the guys from Wicked Tuna,Michael Jordan's basketball legend, and of course
DJ Khalid, who is uh.I guess, did did you get to
hang out with any of the bigrich No, I didn't get I didn't
(27:00):
get to see Michael Jordan. Butthere's a bar down there called King Mackerel
and we got there and they werelike, du did you just fist it?
Michael Jordan came in here, andhe walked in and he bought everybody's
drink and then he paid everyone thathad a running tap. He bought everybody's
tab and closed it out, tippedeverybody super fat, had some drinks,
(27:21):
had some fun in them. Lastsounds like he's related to you. That's
the way you will. We've donethat quite a few times. Yeah,
what do you mean, It's allon my tap, Chris said, I'm
