It is a special edition of theShowcase talking about Parfest with our good Fred
Gary Parr of par Fest twenty twentythree. Good evening, sir, how
are you. I'm doing great day. It's kind of a big year for

(05:29):
you guys. It's the tenth anniversary. Yeah, so absolutely November eleventh this
year it's on Veterans Day par Fest. As you just mentioned, we've been
doing it a while, so wegot a lot of things a planned that
are going to be fantastic. Music, fireworks, display food you nane that
we got it, Biba that aren'tfor me. With Parfest this is an

(05:54):
annual event that takes place, takesplace. I'm so excited. It takes
play in an airplane hangar outside Berkshire, Texas. We've got the House of
Blues staff comes in sound, lighting, production, audio, it's live stream.
You can actually go back and seesome of the previous performances. It

(06:15):
is a top tier presentation production andyou do this event annually raising money for
various charities. This year, inconjunction with the celebration on Veterans Day,
it will benefit Camp Hope, treatingour returning veterans who are suffering from PTSD
as well as many other maladies. Why Parfest took place ten years ago?

(06:39):
Gary, What was it? Oh, well, that's an interesting story.
And I also before I tell thestory, I want to say we're excited
about working with Camp Hope this year. You know, we want to raise
a lot of money and we needa lot of people to come out.
We got we'll have the guitar rafflesagain, custom rapp guitars that people can
buy tickets and you know this allgoes torectly to the charity. But how

(07:00):
this started was myself and two ofthe other guys that were in high school
with Mike and David. We hada band called ashback then and we played
together and that was, you know, a long time ago now because we're
all much older. And I startedplaying guitar again after many, many years
of not playing guitar, and Iwant to call Mike up one day and

(07:24):
said, hey, I started playingguitar again. We should, you know,
get together and you know, jamand he got David together and they
came over and Mike said, man, we ought to call this par Fest
and it just kind of stuck andit just grew and grew and grew.
From that point. We always wantto pick an organization that we can donate
something too that will go through thegood of whatever that particular organization is is

(07:45):
working towards, you know, andand you know, let's just have you
know, have fun, listen togood music, you know, have a
good time, you know, helpthe organizations out. And I think that's
a great way of doing it.And you know, I agree, Part
twenty twenty three, Talking with GaryParr about par Fest twenty twenty three,
November eleventh, benefiting Camp Hope thisyear. Now, over the years,

(08:09):
one of the things that you guyshave done it's a daylong festival. It's
twenty five dollars by o b asI said. It's in an airplane hanger
outside of Brookshire, Texas and itstarts at two in the afternoon, So
it's a daylong festival. That Sunsaid, you've got the fireworks display.
In the years past, we've hadflyovers and skydivers and the beauty of it

(08:31):
is as I've been able to bea part of it for a handful of
years. The bands that have participated, it's a mixed bag. So you've
got bands that are journeymen when youtalk about the Green Brothers, when you
talk about the legendary rhythm Bandits. But then at least in the last couple

(08:54):
of years, you've had some ofthese young artists. Illusion X comes to
mind, young artists that you guysare helping out and giving this opportunity to
perform on this incredible stage, withthis incredible that the staff is professional.
But the first time I showed up, I'm like, wait, wait,
wait, I know all these guys. There are people that work at the
House of Blues, they work atRise Rooftop, they work with Live Nation.

(09:16):
You brought in the best, Yeah, we got the best. True.
I'm telling you that they are thebest of the best, and the
majority of them that are currently workingthe show when we do it, or
they've been working to show for anumber of years now. Okay. Uh
you know the head guy, uhBrian, he's been with me the whole
time, maybe the very first yearor not, but since then, uh,

(09:39):
he's been with me in working withme on this and uh yeah,
I mean that's cool, right ayoung man that uh a man, what
it would have been cool if backin high school if we'd have got to
play on a stage like this.So I think I look at it that
way and say, wow, thisis a this is a real cool opportunity.
I mean, yeah, we startedearlier in the afternoon, and you
know, people start trying up alittle bit, you know later usually,

(10:01):
but they should show up earlier becausewe got some good talent to starting around
two o'clock in the afternoon. Andthen as you mentioned, we do the
fly over the national anthem Americans beautifullong scenes that every year for us,
and she's just fantastic. We loveher and and Green Brothers was back again
this year with a little different toum concept this year, so it's kind

(10:22):
of gonna be cool. We gota brand new band coming in this year,
classic rock band that plays locally aroundin different clubs and things in our
area. And you know ash thisyear. Weld on, hold on,
hold on, I know we wantto get ye, he's racy to the
end. Who's the new band thatyou're including this year? So, um,

(10:43):
it's a It's a local band calledTriple Triple S. Sorry, got
that, got that wrong, TripleS and uh And I'm excited. I
think that people are gonna love theseguys, you know, classic rock,
maybe just a cat a country youknow, we might be able to course
them and doing a little country song. I always get those requests right or

(11:05):
something like that. And so they'regonna be here. Rebarb Cartels back again
this year. They were fantastic lastyear. That was the first year they
played. Yeah, they were good. Now obviously with the passing of one
of the members of the legendary rhythmbandits Ricky who had been part of the

(11:26):
music scene. But you guys paidtribute to him the year before, you
paid tribute to Dusty Hill. Youhave you're all musicians and that's the beauty
of it. So Who is theheadliner this year as we celebrate a decade
of Parfest serving the community at large, put it on a professional show in
an airplane hangar from its humble beginningsa decade ago. Who gets to share

(11:52):
this professional stage and trip the night? Fantastic? Who? Gary? Who
is the headliner? Did we geta drumall? I gotta? I got
the applause? I gotta? Igot a rib shot? That's perfect hash
where we you know we started thisthing? Um? You know we played

(12:15):
an acoustic set and initially, uh, we're playing full on its rock and
roll man and we're doing a tributeto classic rock, which I think everybody's
gonna really love this because we're bringingin aspects of all different classic rock.
Uh. Brandon is going to bePrince and do purple rain, full on

(12:37):
outfit, talking brand. He's wearinga Brandon's wearing a costu. Yeah no,
no, only he just wears somereally Uh he is nice drip.
He is nice drip. But yeah, but so he's gonna so when you
say it costa, but like, are we talking about a wig? Is
he gonna wear a wig? Yeah, he's full on prince. He's gonna
look like Prince and we're gonna doPurple Rain and we're gonna you know,

(12:58):
you know, our lighting, inour stage presence that we have here,
it's gonna be fantastic. It's gonnalook really good and sound fantastic. He's
a fantastic musician. Oh that's fun. You know there's a there's a band
that plays that at sturge Us,a Loadstar rally that they do that.
They have somebody come out in ain a I don't want to say it,

(13:18):
get up, but in a costumethey channel the character. We're not
talking about blue haired lounge singers. We're talking about Get. I've been doing
a performance and uh, you're you'reyou're lead singer. He is, uh
not one of the original members ofAsh, but he's an incredible performer.
And I know you guys, he'sFanley to you, but he does a
great job. Brandon, it doesyeah. Yeah. So and then we

(13:39):
got we have myself coming back. It's Dusty again. So I'm gonna get
We're gonna get to see me fullydressed as we did when we did the
tribute to Dusty. And then andthen you know, I'll spill the things
with you on this one. Okay, So the finale of ASH, we

(14:00):
do the finale that night block beforethe fireworks. This quite professionally even done
by the way, this because Worldthe Texas does does that for us of
their fantastic job. Actually, Iwill look something like Jason helping God a
thunder. Yes, yep, thisis the elbow D show you y not

(15:00):
a finder and the low by yourunder the soul burst soul. I'm so

(15:28):
loyal, SMI I might to mana se I haven't tip this some please
me and I do need to leavebefore the fier. I w the low

(15:56):
by your auder. What'll folly onthe vertus soul? The lord of the

(16:48):
waste slides bottom day, I seeI got the darkness to seal. Harfest

(17:53):
twenty twenty three, November eleventh, benefiting Camp Hope and our veterans that struggle.
Talking with Gary Parr about Parfest twentytwenty three, November eleventh, it's
a concert that takes place in anairplane hanger, benefiting this year Camp Hope

(18:15):
and Gary, his band Ash headliningthis year along with a bunch of other
great bands, has just revealed thatat the end before the fireworks, he's
gonna adopt the persona of Gene Simmons. Yay, I'm gonna stop, but
pretending like I didn't already know this. I was out talking with Gary picking
up flyers so we could promote thisevent. It's such an incredible event.

(18:36):
Not enough people know about it,here about it or come to it now.
And now I'm not saying that wedon't have anybody there. I'm just
saying more people. We got space. It's an airplane hangers November. It's
not hot. We're standing out thereby ob having a good time and enjoying
the day. So I went outto see Gary and he has in his
office stretched out it is the entireGod of Thunder Gan Simmons of Kiss costume,

(19:00):
the leather bat wings and the shoesand what does that what does that
stuff weigh like forty seven pounds. It's it's not it's not just a light.
That's a handcrafted, hand tooled leathercostume. Have you even tried it
on yet? Idea, It's likeputting on two full leather coasts. I

(19:21):
have no idea how Gene performs inthat, especially as he gets older.
I mean, that's incredibly difficult.Virgin blobbing and adrenochrome. I'm assuming,
but yeah, well probably not gonnabe here that in our future. So
uh but this is exciting. Now, tell me this isn't your swan song.
You're not saying, all right,we did it, We're gonna this

(19:42):
is this is growing. I knowthat just last week we were out passing
out flyers, the guys from theFreedom Cruisers or Riding club like, oh
wait, they kept pointing, uhby o B I go yeah, they
go by by. They were soexcited. They know that the money goes
to Camp Hope. It's twenty fivedollars. They're like, we're bringing out
a crew. I'm like, there'splenty of parking, there's plenty of room.

(20:04):
Chris, motherfather Nelson, he's goingto be coming out, and I
know he knows actually some of theother people. They're at the airstrip,
so this is going to be huge. Tell me this isn't your final year.
Yeah. So you know, Ialways tell the guys, look,
let's do it up. Let's raiseas much money as we can, and
then I'll see how I feel goinginto next year. But you know what,

(20:25):
I don't want to stop doing it. I am getting older, I
don't want to not have you outevery year doing this for us, because
you do such a fantastic job.And I've got a surprise for you this
year too, but I'm not gonnatell anybody what that, Okay, but
but you'll find out, okay,and I think you'll you'll love that.

(20:47):
So yeah, yeah, So it'sit's you don't want to miss it,
Yeah, you know, want tomiss it. So November eleventh, it
is a Veteran's Day, it israising money for Camp Hope. It is
only twenty five dollars and I thinklast year we brought out some beer from
one of our sponsors. We'll bringsome more stuff out for you guys,
but you're welcome to bring your ownbrown water, whatever it is that you

(21:10):
want. Raise money for a greatcharity and come out and have a good
time. From the young performers tothe older performers. And I'm talking about
the Green Brothers, not David, you're a guitarist. But everybody has a
good time. Everybody's in good spiritsand it's just a great day. Now
that being said, while we're enjoyingthe swell trained surface of the sun,

(21:34):
temperatures here in southeast Texas. Itis always beautiful Parfest. It is a
couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. Theweather's always perfect here in Southeast Texas,
and it is a glorious time tobe alive and to be with brothers and
sisters doing good, enjoying great music, and having a great evening together.
Yeah, I can't wait. Imean, of course, we're rehearsing and

(21:56):
I'm working on things. I workon the event all year long. You
know, just like organizations that areraising money. Dude, you' trying to
promoted and to again, you know, get as many people as we possibly
can get. And you're right,we have plenty of room. There's not
that. Room's not going to bea problem. We could Let's let's bring
five, six, seven, eighthundred thousand people. I'm good with that.
Okay, we got room for allthat, right. Yeah, they

(22:18):
closed the airs and planes aren't comingin and out while we're there except for
the flyover guys, so's we couldspill out onto the runway. Now that
being said, we don't want toencourage people to bring golf carts or ATVs
or side by sides or anything likethat. We haven't gotten to that level
yet. And certainly we need tobe respectful of the other patrons out on

(22:40):
the grounds, but it is acommunity event and everyone's invited and we hope
to see everybody out there. Parfestthe tenth anniversary twenty twenty three gonna have
Ash reprising their headlining role as theydid a decade ago. Gary. It's
always good to talk to you,my brother. I think so we spooned,
