to be good radio. To me, a.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Craft brewer is much more of a mindset.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
We just opened cans, spread the gospel of good beer.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Beer.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Tons and tons of stuff going on in the beer world.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
I love craft beer. I love different people's beers.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
It's the first favorite.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Cheers too old us beer geeks and those new to
the craft.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
What's on Tap High five?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
This is What's on Tap Radio beer and the culture
that flows with it. Here's beer Guru James Simpson and
beer logics Chad Pilbean.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Oh it's about time. Welcome. It's been go go go
all mornings. I haven't exhausted. I've been going one hundred
miles all day because you know, I know that I
have the show to do, but I have other things

(01:28):
I got to take care of before we get on
the air. But all taken care of. Here we are.
What's on tap radio?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Find about your mom calls?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Sometimes my mom calls.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
That's right, Hey, hey James, how are you just wanted
to talk? No, I got a show to do. You know.
You know the other thing is they got me. You
sound like a guy. And I'm gonna bring this all
full circle here real quick. You sound like a guy
who just made it to his flight on time and
you sat down in the sea. And and that's the thing.
And you know, we talk about this every week. You know,

(02:01):
we got tons and tons of stuff going on in
the beer world. And I always joke one day it's like, now,
there's gonna be one of these days there's gonna be
nothing going on and we're not gonna have anything to
talk about. We have so much going on in the
beer world today that we got on the plane and
we took off and we don't even have a flight plan.
I didn't look at the one sheet.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
We left our luggage today. We left our luggage in
the airport. We never checked our.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Levey we did. I know we brought some beer along,
and I know that we're gonna, of course kick things
off the proper way by thanking our wonderful sponsors. But
of course we want to thank everybody for tuning in
for a couple hours to hang out wherever we are
having a beer responsibly, unless, of course you're driving a car,
and then again that wouldn't be responsible, now what it? No,

(02:45):
that's right. Maybe you're babysitting and you know, wait till
the kid gets picked up and then and you're of age,
but we want you to be responsible.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Is that? One of our our target demo.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Is our P one demographic is twenty one year old
babysit on Sunday afternoon or Sunday.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Let's do some speaking of babysitters, let's do some housekeeping here.
We gotta think our advertisers before we get going here.
Uh that being very logic. Conference events in the backyard,
girl keeping a light. It's nice and bright. Thanks to
our friends over at Harbor Light Brewing and then of
course sponsoring our podcast which is available everywhere, and I
mean everywhere. Thanks to our friends over at Cask branding.
Now that we got that out of the way, I
want to uh crack a beer because it's been a busy,

(03:26):
busy day and uh, I think I've earned it, and
I think Chad's earned it. Bill's earned it, and hopefully
wherever you are and you've earned one as well. Brought
to table thanks to our friends over at the backyard grill.
Who's gonna go first?

Speaker 3 (03:38):
You me Bill hanging out in Katie, Texas studios. James Simpson,
who has had a US. He had he had a
rough go getting to the airport today for takeoff for
the Today's show. So we're gonna let him, you know,
right first class where they offer him the drink right away.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I get a moist warm toilet.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
How yet you want to want you want to moist toilet?
It's a towel at I'm not I'm not sure he's
doing well. Somebody, do go do a welfare check or
is it a wellness check? I don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
We're being trolled here.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Folks in Pieria, Illinois are losing their mind.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Go James, all right, all right, I'll kick things off.
So I think this might conclude my October Fest caravan
here on the show.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Octoberfest in the books.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, you know, we're already in November, so I might
as well just start going with the pumpkin beers. But
I still have a couple more. So this might be
the lastest allment for this year. And I'm going for
what I say, probably in the top three Texas Brewed Octoberfest.
And it comes.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
I want to guess. I want to guess.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
All right, I'll let you guess. Top three. It might
even be three two.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
All right, did you bring the all stot october Fest?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Wladies and gentleman? He is correct?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Tell him what he won?

Speaker 1 (05:02):
WHOA, I robbed the allstat october Fest from Fredericksburg, Texas.
Chad's very And you.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Said to three, and I know you hadn't brought it
year what I'm bringing did not know? I know when
you said top three, and I know you haven't had
that one on the air yet this year. It's got
to be all statt.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I don't know if it's my number one.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
It's so good everything.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Five five point nine percent, nice copper appearance to it,
nice head on it, smulti sweetness, m hm mm hmm.
This is I can't even talk. I'm speechless.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
It's a good it's a good october Fest, a sunset on.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yes, it's made in the Texas Hill Country, German hops,
malt and yeast. And this is the Allstat october Fest,
which is in my Sam Lamb's Boston logger Glass appropriately
vessel for it.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
We're drinking in the same Oh wait, no, we're not
drinking the same We got to get to ours here, Jans.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
You guys, and you're.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Having a moment.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
After we come back from our first break, I will
break this beer down, but I'll let you know. Is
the All Stat october Fest out of Fredisburg, Texas at
five point nine percent.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
All right, well right, thank you very much James for
kicking things off. I hope you're feeling better now you've
got a beer in your bellyt man. And speaking of
beer in our bellies, we too are drinking out of
the Sam Adams Boston lagger Glass here in southwest Michigan.
Here just outside of Alligan or in Allegan at the
Beer Logic World headquarters in drinking Porium Harborlight Bill.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yes, from Oakstown Brewing, one of the breweries I own.
I have a assistant brewer up there. We're drinking the
Far Harbor New England ipa, a little bit different take
on the New England uses ariana lotus hops for a
little bit more vanilla berry rather than the typical tropical

(06:59):
fruit stuff, coming in at eight percent thirty ibused, all right,
all right, no hold up. I was like, there's something
different about this.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
I can't figure out what it is, and I'm kind
of getting this almost you know, it's got lactose. I'm
getting hints of vanilla, but there's something else in there.
And I'm gonna say it now that you said it,
it's got a berry note to it. And to me,
this is almost like a well, it's appropriate at this
time of year. It's the Christmas Hazy ipa because a

(07:28):
lot of Christmas and holiday beers have berry notes in that.
But we're gonna, we're gonna let this warm up. I
like this. This is a fun beer. It's tricking my
taste buds because I look for hazy and I'm expecting
pineapple and grapefruit, and I'm getting some different notes and
I really like this. So tell everybody what we have
again here, Bill. So it's called Far Harbor a New

(07:49):
England ipa from Oakstown Brewery, Grandville, Michigan, and James, you
kick things off.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
With october Fest out of frederick Burg, Texas from Allstatt Brewery,
one of my top three Texas brewed october Fest, and
that is brought to you by our friends over the
backyard grill thanks to sponsoring. Brought to the table. But
all right, we got to take our first break. We
have got a lot on tap this week, including I
just got this Solictien to email, probably about five minutes
before we got on the air, and we're gonna address that.

(08:15):
And Yingling's announced in a new limited release beer that
we'll see if you might be interested in. Also is
so much more including fun facts, hold my beer and
watched this all coming up. Don't you go anywhere. We'll
be right back.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
When someone says hold my beer, you know a trip
to the er is in your future. So hold your
own beer, buddy, and just listen to more of what's
on tap, what's on tamp radio.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
All right, excuse my first inning. There a little scatter
brained as we're coming onto the air. I got this email.
And Chad doesn't know anything about this email unless you,
I don't know if you've seen it, have you, Chad.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
I didn't. I didn't hack your No, I didn't. I
didn't hack into.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
The account checked. Okay, So I'm gonna do some digging
while we're gonna do your fun factor in a second.
But why you're doing the fun fact, I might be
a little quiet because I'm gonna do some digging for
this email that we're going to address here coming up
later on the show. Also on TAPT this episode, beer eases,

(09:29):
loneliness tackles mental health. But we're not experts, we're not doctors.
We didn't say this. There's a certain ceo out there
that's come out and said this that they say that
loneliness tackles mental health. So we're gonna we'll talk about
that is.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
A fiduciary responsibility to his brewery. That's why we're so
chappy people here on what's that tap Radio.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Apparently, and then the Kelsey brothers they they got you know,
their their their beer garage beer. Well, I feel like
they got a page out of the Miller Lite handbook
about coming out with things that you probably won't be
able to get your hands on.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
So I got that irony of that is this particular
item is something that you quite literally put your hands on.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah it, so we'll talk about that. We gotta feel
good story. We got a feel good story out of Colorado,
and we can just we got a lot of good
stuff on tab in clutting a bridge full of nice beers.
So don't you go anywhere. Got a good show.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Still over here. He's like, he's saying things you can't
get your hands on. He's like, what Taylor Swift tickets
or Taylor Swift herself with like, yeah, exactly, yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
All right, well let's let's reset the beers that we
brought the table. Chad allowed me to kick things off
with the what I say is probably in my top
three Texas Brewed october Fest, which is the all stat
october Fest, and it comes to you at five point
nine percent aroma, multi weakness, smooth, full body, slightly sweet

(11:03):
on the taste, m finish, is very clean and complex
beer that.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Good and you're drinking out of the Boston Lagger glass.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
I mean, yeah, you know.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
The thing is, you don't even have to empty the dishwasher.
It empties itself when you drink beer out of that glass.
It is that amazing of a.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Beer, damn thing. It is the damnedest thing. But yeah,
if you haven't got a chance to check out the
Fredericksburg Brewery, allstat it is one of the most gorgeous
breweries I've ever been to. So if you I know
that very very I know that frederick Burg is known
for the you know, the wine country of Texas, but
there's great beer. There's great beer in Fredericksburg at allstat.

(11:42):
So shout out to those guys, very very tasty. And
then Chad and Bill.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
Yeah, and we kicked things off, to my surprise, h
with the Far Harbor, New England.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I PA, to my surprise surprise.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
I say that because my buddy Mark, miss lay can,
and I thought we were trying the.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Stout and I opened it. Poor, I was like, oh,
that's not a stout. It's not a stout, it's a hazy.
I PA. At least I knew which beer it was
once I saw the cans labeled uh uh shadow people.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Yeah, we'll get to that one later on. It's in
one of those cans, which is probably miss Mark.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
We'll get to it. It's a mystery.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Maybe it's a can of chili, maybe it's a stout,
who knows, but it's a New England. I PA with
a little vanilla berry mango notes to it. I want
to talk about coming in an eight percent all right,
so vanilla berry. Yeah, that's the thing. It's just it's
bizarre to me that that's a note you'd pick up
in this and it tripped me up for a little
bit because I couldn't tell what it was. It's so unique,

(12:45):
but it's really well balanced and it works well with
all the other notes on this beer. This is a
fun beer to try. This is this is one of
those beers that I'm just gonna say this, whenever you
expect something from a hazy ipa or from a style
of beer and then you take this, you're like, wait
a minute, I didn't expect that, and it it goes
really well. So I'm gonna I'm gonna call this a

(13:07):
big win for a surprise factor in uniqueness and originality,
very well made. You know, it's maybe not my favorite
style because I'm not a huge hazy guy, and I
would order it again.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Yeah, So it's uh, it's a different type of hops
that Mark Thu in there, and all those hops, you know,
make different flavors, bring out different notes, and I think, uh,
I think he really hit it off. Hit a winner
here with the two different types of hops.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
And I dig it. I dig it. All right, Well,
now that we were digging that, James, get ready because
this this is a uh, this is a listener inspired,
listener inspired fun fact for.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
The now, the official What's on Tap Radio fun fact
of the week, brought to you by who's ever checked
cleared this week?

Speaker 1 (13:55):
All right, just know I'm listening, but I'm also doing
some research while you're doing your fun fact Chad.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
All right, get ready because this is kind of funny.
So I got a listener, I got a message who
reached out to me, Chad the beer Logic guy. They're
out there on the DMS. That's the direct messaging for
those of you not hip on social media. And got
this question sent to me. And the question was this,
with all of the environmental efforts to recycle, whose job

(14:25):
is it to take all of the limes out of
the corona bottles so they can be recycled? And I
was like, surely there's there's not somebody who does that.
There's not a job, and and and I looked into
it and and there's not. But I kind of I
put it out there on a Reddit forum, and somebody

(14:48):
came back and they said, oh, no, no, no, no, no,
there is actually a term for it. It's called flinking
f l I n K I n G flinking, and
it's to get the limes out of the Corona bottles.
And I was like, I've never heard of this before.
So naturally I went back to our listener and I said, well,
have you ever seen the movie Elf? And if you remember,

(15:08):
at the beginning, there's only three jobs for an elf.
It's Santa's Workshop, cookie maker, you know, the keebler elves,
and then also cobbler shoe cobbler. Well, shoe repair work
is way down, way down. I mean, nobody repairs their
shoes anymore. And so due to unemployment and ingenuity here
in the United States and the popularity of Mexican beers,

(15:29):
what's happened now is elves now have another job where
they remove the limes and they're called flinkers, and they
remove the limes from you're not buying this bill, No
you're not. Okay, people aren't. People are We're losing listeners
right now. Don't worry.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
I'm like years ago where they actually used to recycle
the bottles. You get that great big twenty four pack
and the bottles were used for years, right, But I
don't think they do that.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Well, they do that over in Europe, oh, but they
don't do that here in the United States. It turns out,
actually you don't need a flinker or an elf to
do it because they have a machine that will shake
the lines out of it and they are biodegradable and
they just get composted and they disappear. But even if
that doesn't happen, then they don't come out. When the
glass gets crushed, it gets separated mechanically and then it

(16:16):
gets composted and the glass is fine. So we unfortunately
shoe cobbling elves still unemployed and looking for a place
in Santa's workshop, because that really is you know, that's
the major leagues. That's really where you want to go.
But I thought about this, I was like, where did
she come up with this name on Reddit? Called flinking?

(16:36):
So I decided to dive into it. I'm telling you,
sometimes you find the fun facts in the weirdest places.
Today it comes from Reddit and this is your official
What's on Tap Radio fun fact of the week. You
now have a new word to add to your vocabulary.
And out here where I live, because I have a
house on a lake. Oh yeah, I'm going to be

(16:58):
using this term summer. Oh yeah, we are going flinking
because I did a lot of flinking this summer. And flinking.
Your official What's on Tap Radio Fun fact of the
week is wearing a life jacket like a diaper and
then getting in the water and floating near the boat

(17:19):
while drinking. So drinking while wearing a life jacket as
a diaper, you're floating while drinking. You are flinking. And that,
ladies and gentlemen, is your official What's on Tap Radio
fun fact of the Week and new vocabulary word that
you will be using on a regular basis. So when

(17:41):
you're on vacation summertime, you're out there floating in the water,
use use that life jacket as a diaper. Don't pee
in it, use it to just put your legs through
it and just float on it and then drink beer
and you'll be flinking.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
I heard a long time ago somebody had told me
that Corona bottles and maybe do steky bottles that had
the lime wedges in them, they just toss them. They're
like you know, there's not it's not worth the trouble
of trying to dig the wedge out, so they just
toss it and it ends up in a landfill. But
I don't know if that's changed over the past.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
You know, maybe the pressure leader says this is how
we do it, but but after it goes behind the curtain,
they're like, throw that in the We're not composting anything.
It's all going to the landfill.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Get it out of here, right, So I don't know,
just uh, who knows, And maybe if you do, let
us know, reach out to us. What's on taprido gmail
dot com. All right, speaking of what's on taprio gmail
dot com, we got a listener email we're about to address.
And while chat was doing its fun fact, I did
some dig in and we're gonna address this email coming up.
That's what's on tap radio. Hang with this, we'll be
right back.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Spilling a beer. Oh no, the adult equivalent of letting
go of a balloon. So, like that last little bit
of hair remaining on your head, hold on tight to
more of what's on tap radio.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
All right, I've done some research, done some research. Just
got this listener email probably about oh maybe ten minutes
before the show. I know, I said five minutes for
the show, but it's about ten minutes. And I was like,
you know what, that's interesting. Let me do some dig
in kind of maybe scattered brain in the in the

(19:29):
first segment, but yeah, send us an email. What's on
Tap Radio at gmail dot com. If you want to
get all the show, you can send this email, or
you can follow us on our social on all the
major platforms, Facebook, x, Instagram, TikTok YouTube, We're all on
all the major platforms, so you know, slide to or
dms if you have questions or suggestions whatever it is.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
They now, this is an email from a listener, and
they have a question for us. Yes, did they want
to know how they get the lines out of Corona
bottles and if there's a real job for it, because.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
So you did you did see the email?

Speaker 3 (20:01):
Okay, Yeah, that's why I addressed it. The fun fact.
I don't know why we're still talking about this, all right,
go ahead, James, Okay, So inquiring minds want to know.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Here here's the email. Okay. And Bill and Chad have
no idea about this email. They haven't checked the email
since so we started the show. But here goes, Hey,
what's on tap? Radio? Crew? Love the show? I have
a fun one for you to debate. So here's the story.
So my friend recently went on our first date at
a nice cocktail bar. Okay, first date, nice cocktail bar.

(20:36):
He's totally a beer guy, nothing fancy, just enjoys a
cold brew. But when his date ordered some kind of
fancy cocktail with a long name and an orange pel garnish,
he suddenly changed his order. Instead of getting a beer
he really wanted, he ordered a bourbon on the rocks
because he said he didn't want to look quote unquote
low effort or turn her off by ordering a beer.

(21:00):
He told me later he regretted it because it wasn't
what he wanted and it made him feel like he
wasn't being himself. So now I'm wondering is ordering a
beer on the first date an actual turn off or
does it depend on the vibe, the drink, or maybe
the person Curious of what you guys think, should you
order what you want or read the room on a date?

(21:22):
Cheers Taylor from Austin. Wow, Yeah, so we're gonna be
a little biased. Hold on, we're gonna be a little
biased because this is a beer show. But I want
you to put yourself in this position. First date. He
goes to his fancy cocktail bar.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
All right, I'm gonna stop. I'm gonna stop you right there. Okay,
I'm gonna say right now. I appreciate, by the way,
thank you for the email, because this pushes me outside
of my comfort zone and I don't often get asked, Hey, Chad,
do you have any dating advice? Because I have been
married for twenty a year years, I can't tell you

(22:02):
the last time I went on a date that didn't
involve my wife. James, you've been married how long?

Speaker 1 (22:08):
About eighteen years? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:10):
And Bill thirty six. Okay, so between all of us,
that's a sixty four seventy four eighty two years of
marriage between the three of us. And I'm betting that
the three of us haven't been on a date in

(22:32):
our respective timeframes. In fact, we I courted Christine five
years before that. So but I I just I want
to say this. I appreciate being included in the discussion,
So thank you. This is fun for me. The first
thing I'm gonna say is is I think the question
was answered with the email when it said he regretted

(22:54):
making that decision because he didn't feel like he was
being honest with himself or about who he was. Okay,
let me help you out the fact that you said,
I think you weren't being honest. That's where you were wrong.
You weren't being honest. There is no I think Okay,
you just weren't. Okay, you want a beer, you order
a beer. If she doesn't respect you for ordering what

(23:15):
you want, then I'm sorry. You need to move on
down the line. I mean, this is the first day.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
You know, he's trying to be cool and all right,
she orders this what did he say, a fancy cocktail
with a long man with an orange peel garnish in it,
and he was probably, I don't know, maybe he wanted
to get an old you know, a michelob Ultar or something.
And he was like, well, she's wearing this eighteen dollars
drink and I'm gonna order a four dollar beer. I

(23:43):
don't know.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
So so I was like, he's the guy to keep around.
He's got the retirement plan, he's gonna have money in
the bank.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
I think a lot of that depends on where you go.
If it's a fancy cocktail bar. And I'm a bourbon
Scotch guy, you know, whiskey guy myself. So if you're
going to a nice bourbon bar, good, then order a cocktail.
But if you're going to stands.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
No, he's not going to stands tavern. He's not going
to tavern.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
He's not going to a dive bar where his feet
stick to the floor.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
But if you're a beer guy, order a beer. I
agree with Chad. Yeah, you're a beer guy. Ordered beer.
The other thing I can't get my head wrapped around
is is if you're going to start off the relationship
on a lie, That right there tells me starting off.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
On a lie. Though, well, okay, because if you don't
you think about like this. If you typically dress and
jim shorts and like T shirts, but on a fancy
date you're dressing up. Are you really being yourself because
you don't normally wear jim shorts and a T shirt
on a fancy date, you you know, may me wear
a nice blazer, put some smell good on that you

(24:58):
typically don't wear. So are you lying on the date?
Are you lying?

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Chance? You're it's not a lie if you believe it. Okay,
all right. So I'm gonna say that ordering a cocktail
when you really want a beer falls in between getting
dressed up for a date, which is okay, when you
normally would wear sweatpants or jim shorts and a T shirt.
So get that's not a lie, that's not a lie.
That's trying to impress. Okay, I get that. I get that,

(25:24):
But it's it's between that and wearing a having an
extra pair of tube socks. I'll just say that, Okay.
So it's it's it's it's between those two. You're you're
trying to overcompensate for something, and I don't like it.

(25:47):
I don't. I think people are way to in this
day and age. And again it's been a long time
since I've dated, but I think people are really looking
for honesty, authenticity.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
I feel like, yeah, if you're older, maybe you've been
married before and you're divorced. You know, maybe that's being
more of yourself, Like, you know what, let me just
order a beer. But I don't know this guy's circumstance.
I don't know what what here.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Here's the other thing I want to throw out there.
I have some I'm not saying my nephews are in
this boat. But you know, my nephews have started dating.
I have some nieces who have started dating, my daughter's dating,
my son got married, So I have a little bit
of exposure to this, and they talk about some of
their I wouldn't say they're friends, but you know, some
people in the of their generation. And one of the

(26:35):
things that I'm hearing more and more and I see this.
Of course it's on the internet, and so if it's
on the internet must be true, is that the people
are starting to settle. They're not as picky because people
are more and more content with being single. And if
you really want to find someone who to be a

(26:57):
partner with, whether it's married, you're dating, you're willing to
compromise on some things. So I think you have a
license to order a beer if.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
You're just suiting in. We're talking about this listener email.
He a buddy went out on a first date and
then he's basically asking is beer a turnoff on a
first date? So I told you I had to do
some digging. So while you were doing your fun fact,
I started researching. I wanted to see. I thrown the
old Google. I was looking about alcohol choices on a
first date and lo and behold, there's a survey that

(27:30):
was put out by Tender of all places that says
a survey from Tender said.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
For those who don't know what Tender is.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
It's a it's a dating app. Okay.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
I had to defer to James because I have no idea.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
What it is. It's a dating it's a dating app.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
You have that on your phone?

Speaker 1 (27:46):
No, I don't. I'm married. I'm married, all right, okay.
And they say percent of people say they have at
least one alcoholic beverage on a first date. And this
is kind of like, you know, to settle the nerves
a little bit. And so they compiled a list of
the top alcoholic choices on our first date, and so
coming in at number ten in old fashion okay, Number

(28:09):
nine at whiskey sour. Number eight a spirit like scotch
on the rocks.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Whiskey sour. Isn't that old? That isn't that in a
very old fashioned drink? I know, yeah, that's outdated, okay.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Number seven the list is a daker ye, maybe like
some sort of beach drink or something. Number six is
a pennicolata. Number five of mimosa. Number four, A martini
number three, which I which number three? I figured it
would be a little higher, but it's not. A glass
of wine number two. I figured this would be down

(28:43):
on the list. A shot of something shot, I say.
And the number one thing that, according to tender, that
people order on the first date to settle their nerves.
A margarita not on this list? Beer? You notice, not
on this list? Beer?

Speaker 3 (29:01):
I was just gonna say, where's beer?

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Not on the list. So the survey found that people
want to drink a classic margarita or doing shots or
maybe having a neat drink like a Scotch with no ice, So.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
All the more reason to order the beer. Because single
people are starting to outnumber dated dating people and people
who are in relationships, and you want to stand out
and be remembered, And how do you do that? Order
a damn beer?

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Well, sound off? Maybe you're dating right now? How to
go on your first date? Reach out to us? What's
on tap? We do at gmail dot com? All right,
we got to take a break still to come. We've
got a lot going on, including the CEO has come
out and said, you know what, did you know that
beer actually eases loneliness and tackles mental health. We'll tell
you what CEO said that all this is so much more.
Hang with us, we'll write back.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, we drink water, but it has to be filtered
through a brewery first. You've got what's on tap radio?

Speaker 1 (30:08):
All right, I'm gonna again plug our social what's on
tap radio? Facebook, x, Instagram, TikTok YouTube, send us the
email what's on tap brido at gmail dot com. We
just got in a nice little discussion whether or not
is beer a turnoff on a first date? Or how
about even this, I'll even throw this one out there, Chad.

(30:30):
Maybe you go to a client, you're you're meeting our
client at a nice restaurant and they order an old
fashion Do you order a spirit also, or do you
go ahead and just order a beer? Maybe you're trying
to order what I want?

Speaker 3 (30:46):
I order what I want. I remember there was an
old Boston Lagger Sam Adams Boston Lagger commercial. Speaking of
Boston Lagger and Sam Adams, we've got an empty glasses here.
We're gonna have to fix that in just a second here.
But there was an old boss and logger commercial for
Sam Adams, and it was three or four business guys,

(31:08):
I get Yeah, I guess it was four guys out
with three guys out with their boss. They're all in
suits and theyre at this fancy restaurant and they all
want to drink, but of course they're with the boss.
And the first guy, you know, the waiter, comes up
to him says something to drink. It's like, i'll have
a water please, And then the next guy says, I'll

(31:28):
have a water as well with lemon though, And the
next guy says, I'll have a Sam Adams. And then
the boss looks at him says that's a great idea
to Sam Adams. And the other two guys are sitting
they're like, uh, we missed out, Like yeah, yeah, I
guess who got the promotion exactly you the guy who
ordered the beer, the guy who had the guts to

(31:49):
do it. And I'm gonna tell you right now, guys, listen,
this is for the guys. Sorry ladies, guys, if you're
a beer and she says that's a turn off, she's
not the one, all right, I don't I don't want to.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Tell you it's a turn off, but she might not
call you for a second date.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Well, I saw the movie swingers. You're not supposed to
call for three days. I mean, you're supposed to wait
three days before you call anything, you know.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
All right, Well, if she's not returning, if she's not
returning to her calls after the first date, then maybe, uh,
I don't know. Like I said, Chad and I and Bill,
we haven't gone on our first date and.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Time.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
So all right, all right, y'all crack a beer and
then we still got.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
A we are Bill Bill started porn. I have no
idea what we're having here, but tastes good. Called four
Miles into Darkness from Oakstown Brewery.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Four Miles into Darkness. That's the name of the beer.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
Four Miles into Darkness.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
That's a great name for a beer.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Okay, that's kind of It is.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
A great name for a beer.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
That's like if you think about it, like, four miles Wow,
that's kind of. That's that's that's the point when you
turn around and you don't see any light.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Yeah you're in there.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
Yeah you'reched in the sorry aged in feather Rye Barrels
from Journeyman. It took the second place at the Journeyman
barrel Age Beer Festival there down in three Oaks and.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Was the fan favorite also in Three Oaks. Yeah, where's
three Oaks? Uh south of here Ra, just north of
the border of Indiana.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
All right, all right, it's four.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Miles into darkness? And and so what's the style of
beer on this? That's an excellent question. He didn't put
it on there. He didn't put it on there, so
he didn't brew it. But I think I remember, I
do believe. I think it's a Belgian quad aged in is. Yeah,
because I'm getting all those notes and I stopped by
the tap room and had it and I posted it

(33:45):
on social I'm like, yeah, typical, no Bill, no Mark,
and no Chicago Drive champagne. But four miles into darkness,
that's pretty good. This will get you where you're going
if you're looking, you know, yeah, coming to nine point
nine percent right lights on. And it's an award winning beer.
Is an award winning beer. All right. That's a good

(34:07):
way to start off with our second beer with a
metal It tastes delicious, smooth, boozy, you get barrel, you
get dark fruit and in a little bit of a
little bit of sugar sweetness, absolutely delicious, warms you right up.
It's kind of beer that fire. Marshal Matt would say,

(34:29):
who We're not going anywhere, We're staying for one more
right now, good stuff, all right, James, speaking of good stuff?
Can I can you want me to tackle you want
me to tackle this real quick? Talking about the Boston
Lagger We were talking about the We were talking about
the Boston Lagger glass all right, and we talk about
this big boozy beer here again. Tell me again, what's

(34:52):
the ABV on this one? Nine point nine nine point
nine People's People's Choice Award winning beer. All right, all right,
that sounds good. Well, we came across this press release
and it came out again, and I was like, I
think we see this press release every two years, and
this is I'm just gonna say it, this is lazy writing.

(35:16):
This Sam Adams beer is so strong that it's illegal
in fifteen states. Yeah, it's the same headline for a decade.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix right, Chad.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Oh my gosh, I know it only comes out every
two years because Sam Adams utopias gets released every two years.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
We have that, Bill, Oh, we have the two year mark.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
It's always an odd year. Yes, yeah, yeah, okay, So Bill,
if you see it, pick it up. I'll split the
cost with you because it's probably gonna come in somewhere
around two hundred and seventy dollars or two hundred and
fifty dollars for the bottle.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
And haven't seen how many ounces in the bottle.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
It's a twenty four ounce bottle and it shaped like
a a brew kettle. It's a ceramic kettle. And then
it's covered in copper copper, yep, and it's still it's
there's no carbonation but not it's a.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Kind of a blend. But not all of the beers,
but some of the beers they put in there are
very old. Yes, it's I'm saying five years.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
You're never gonna you're never gonna get the same flavor
from batch to batch. They blend them and they mix
them all up. But this breaking news, breaking news, breaking news,
This is new. And you could have led with this
and put this in the headline, but no, you went
with the same headline you ran the last decade. This
Sam Adams beer is so strong that it's illegal in

(36:43):
fifteen states.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Yeah, I've seen that. I've seen that headline a lot.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
Well, this one, how about this, this Sam Adams beer
is not only illegal in fifteen states, but it's the
strongest it's ever.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Been seen that one too? What seen that one too?

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Oh? You did? I see?

Speaker 1 (37:03):
They've seen that pressure release. This is the strongest beer.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Well, this is the strongest Utopia has ever been this.
If you get your hands on this match, this is
coming in at a whopping thirty percent ABV. Yes, the
high previous highest ABV on Sam Adams Utopia is twenty
eight percent, but this year new milestone thirty percent ABV

(37:27):
taken extreme beer to another level. Absolutely. Still not available
in fifteen states, and it is available in Michigan. I've
seen it once about well, I would to say, like
four or five years. And it's available in Texas As.
I'm pretty sure it's available in Iowa.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
So unpopular if you get your hands on unpopular opinion.
Not a fan here we go, not a fair we go,
Nope here. I've had it so many times. I remember
one time I had it a JBF and I threw
up in the trash can immediately immediately after I took
a stick of it. I didn't throw up, per se,
I just kind of spit up because it was just hot, hot,

(38:05):
and boozy, and we've been walking around all day and
I took a sip of that and ooh, just never
been a fan.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
I mean, I can wait for Bill to score this
bottle for me, and then I have a bottle. I
have a twenty seventeen. I've never had utopia.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Okay, you'll probably like it because you're like those boozier
beers more than I do.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
It's It's the best way to describe it is barrel
age barley wine, but old ale just really complex, no carbonation.
Drink at room temperature.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Yep, yeah, that's the thing. Drink at room temp.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
It's like.

Speaker 1 (38:43):
Oh and then I.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Think whiskey meats port wine meets strong ale.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
Right, And we had it on the show. I think
we had in studio too.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Once My day didn't suck because I wasn't complaining about it.
I love it. I think it's great.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Yeah, because I try to, like, let me, let me
give it a second try, all right, And then I
tried again. I was like, I just just just not
do it for me. I would not spend the three
hundred dollars for a Utopias, but hey, I do like
the packaging though, the packaging school, but the beverage I have.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
Had Dogfish had won twenty aged in Utopia Barrels eighteen
to this date. That is the best beer I've ever had.
All Right, Bill knows Bill knows man. He gets his
hand on that one, He's like, yeah, take the keys.
I'm not I'm not driving. Staying right here. All right.

(39:36):
We got it's our number one.

Speaker 1 (39:37):
Our number one of the books. Coming up next hour,
we got Yingling has announced a limited release beer. We
have a update to a country singer who you know
wasn't getting a beer thrown at Hilm. He threw a
beer at somebody, and the Kusti brothers are in the news.
All this is so much more. Hang with us. We'll
right back.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
The only thing we throw back on Thursday, he's a
pint of beer two or three. This is what's on
tap radio. Get back to James and Chad.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
All right, welcome to Hour number two. Thanks for hanging
out with us. Had a very busy first hour. Still
talking about this email that we got from a listener
who his buddy went out on our first date and
to a fancy cocktail bar and the date he was
with ordered some fancy drinking. He really wanted to beer.

(40:35):
But he thought maybe by ordering a beer it may
turn her off, so he ordered a Bourbon Rocks and
you know that's not him. So we got in a
discussion of whether or not he should have just ordered
a beer. Let us know, reach out to us. What's
on tap we do at gmail dot com. Maybe you've
had an experience like that. I would love to hear it. Well,
maybe we'll bring it to the show.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
All right, I hear I'm an I'm just gonna say this.
I'm gonna say this. You know, if you wear extra
padding in certain areas of your clothing in order to
try and press on that first date or you know,
and you know what I'm talking about. That was my
reference to the tube sock.

Speaker 1 (41:15):
Yeah, I know, we understood the tubes.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
That's the bottom of the barrel right there. And I
don't care. Same thing if you're padding other parts. And yes, ladies,
that goes for you. Just be yourself. The thing is is,
if you ever get so far in the relationship to
where all right now, you gotta be real imagine the
disappointment like wait a minute, I thought, wait, so look, you.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
Know, I would love to find out more about this
story about maybe later on where they they get more
comfortable in the relationship, and she cites you know what,
I really didn't want that fancy. I wanted a white sifondale.
You know you made that want to go on a
day with me for a second date. You know, maybe

(42:04):
she wanted to order a boons form.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Oh, all right, I love it speaking a ripping up
and down. We got a we got a spotlight of criminal. Here,
hold my beer and watch this, and uh, we're going
We're coming back to the Sunshine State. We give give
them the Sunshine State a few weeks off.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Like James, Florida never disappoints.

Speaker 1 (42:28):
It never does. It never does. When all hellse fails,
I'm like, you know, where is a where's a good
Hold my beer and watch this? No nothing in Rhode Island,
No nothing in Michigan.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Only once have we gone to Rhode Island?

Speaker 1 (42:41):
Yep? All right? So, uh have you ever had a
friend or a family member post something stupid on social media?

Speaker 3 (42:49):
Or maybe it's you I was just saying today or ever?

Speaker 1 (42:54):
I mean they're trying to be funny, Yeah, they're trying
to be funny. Well, this is a very extreme version
of that there's a twenty seven year old man in Florida,
Florida man named Tyler Noop. He was arrested for having
disturbing photos of toddlers and infants with beer, marijuana, and firearms.

(43:20):
So the photos were staged and the kids were too
young to understand what was happening. But they're shocking, especially
the ones who posed with the guns. So Taylor denied
taking all the photos, but he did admit staging them
as a joke. It's unknown who took the photos if
he didn't. And he did admit to being quote unquote

(43:43):
aware of the photos and confirmed that marijuana was real,
although he claimed it with someone else's.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
Oh yeah, that makes it up right. The kids had weed,
but it wasn't my weed.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
For what it's worth, officials, I've also noticed that Taylor's
residence was also unsafe, with exposed wiring, unfinished plywood walls,
and partially missing stealing. But clearly the welfare of the
kids is the bigger deal than the unfinished walls.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
That's a welfare check. That's a welfare check.

Speaker 1 (44:24):
Yeah, so you're hold my beer and watched this and
idiot stage photos of toddler's with beer marijuana and guns.
And I looked at one of the pictures. Obviously the
obviously the the todler's face is blurred out, but it
looks like the toddler's maybe it's sleeping. I can't tell them,
obviously because it's blurred out face. But yes, there is

(44:46):
a loaded gun. Well, actually I don't know if it's
a loaded gun. And I don't want to say that
there's a gun a beer and to marijuana.

Speaker 3 (44:56):
Well, for all we know, it's now this is what's
the interesting part of this story. So you just you
hit the nail on the head there, James. You said
you don't know if the gun was loaded, and for
all we know, that beer can could have been empty.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
It was a beer bottle.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Well was it a fake gun too? But we know this.
The marijuana was real, but it wasn't his. All right,
look all right, the weed, Yeah that's real, but it
wasn't mine. So I'm good, right, Uh, no, not at all.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
This is almost just like the story of they have
to be related, Chad the hold my beer. And watched
this from last week where the it was a gender
revealed party and the guy ended up drinking like nine
beers doing cocaine and stabbing a bartender. No, a bouncer.
He stabbed a bouncer. They got to be like related, right,
they have to be probably, But but yeah, you know

(45:49):
he's trying to be funny. He's like, you know, you know,
the kids don't know any better. They're just you know,
laying there, and he's like, what if I just put
this gun and the beer and the weed. I did
see the picture of the beer. Do you want to
guess what kind of beer was?

Speaker 3 (46:01):
Oh? They finally I got some decent reporting.

Speaker 1 (46:04):
Well, no, it wasn't reported. I just I saw the picture.

Speaker 3 (46:07):
I'm I'm I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna just I'm gonna.
I'm gonna tap in the putt here. I'm gonna say
it was bud Light. Miller Light.

Speaker 1 (46:16):
No, y'all are both wrong. Ah, Mayor Turner's favorite beer. Oh,
Mitchell Altra, Mitchell Ult.

Speaker 3 (46:25):
I was gonna say, if you told me it was Florida,
man I p a from Cigar City, which is drinking,
that would have been No. If it had been Florida,
man I p a from Cigar City, I would have
fallen off my chair. I because no way, you know,
that shocked look that h Dana White has whenever somebody
gets kicked in the head at the UFC event, he

(46:46):
goes whow and he has a big explosion that look
on his face like he like he just got kicked
in the head. Yeah, if you told me it was Florida, man,
I p A. I think that that would have been
me right there.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
No, that wouldn't know it was a Michelot ultra. But
I don't know why people do that. These days, more
and more people are getting themselves in trouble staging these
photos that are not clearly thinking, and then all of
a sudden, it's like, whoa, there's like nine crimes happening
in this one picture.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
I have a theory. I have a theory of this.
We would say things like I'm glad that I didn't
have that many cameras around whenever I was a kid,
But also we didn't do dumb things like that. I
think because we have so many cameras around, people see
that and they're like, I'm gonna do one up on you,
and then somebody's gonna do one up on that, And
that's why people are doing dumb things. It used to

(47:33):
be the camera kept you from doing things, and now
the camera's enticing and doing things. So yeah, that is
hold my beer and watch.

Speaker 1 (47:40):
They're also trying to get followers and clicks and so forth.
It's a wild time. We live in wild time, Florida.
Shout out to you guys.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
All right, we got to take bring it real interesting.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
Yeah, all right, we're gonna talk about we got yingling
and then we got a CEO who's come out and said,
you know what, Hey, did you know actually beers his
loneliness and tackles mental health. We'll talk about that. All
is so much more. Hang with us. We'll be right back.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
After reading about the evils of drinking. We made up
our mind. We're gonna stop reading. What's on Tap Radio
continues with James Simpson and Chad Tilbeam.

Speaker 1 (48:31):
All right, I am due for another beer.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
Yay.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
I have finished my all stat October Fest. I'm not
lying when I say it's in my top three Texas
Brewed October Fest.

Speaker 3 (48:48):
I don't I don't even know what be right there?
What No, you said top three Texas? Yeah, Texas, that's
pretty That might be in my top five of all.

Speaker 1 (49:02):
I mean it could be my top five of all,
but I mean, where do I put you know, Boston
Beer Company, Samuel Adams october Fest. Yeah, the Yingling october Fest,
I told you is one of my favorites. You know,
this october Fest from all Stay.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
But I don't know.

Speaker 1 (49:21):
I yeah, I've never ranked them before. I just know
that it's it's probably my top three.

Speaker 3 (49:27):
I think next year, that's what we're gonna do. I
think we do this, we rank. In fact, I'm gonna
I'm gonna go out on a limb here. We're gonna
have to find another I don't know if there's another
beer style we can do that with because Christmas ale
is so varied and diverse. I mean, if you want
to pick a seasonal beer, you know, spring beer, well,

(49:49):
I mean Springbok versus spring pills. I mean, come on,
you know my box, yeah, my box. Yeah, you can't
really do that.

Speaker 1 (49:56):
So same with summer summer pills nerds, because you have
the rat and you have.

Speaker 3 (50:01):
The right Meanwhile, your glass is dry, it is, but
also a beer also a beer that's well up there,
and I wouldn't know, maybe I.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
Need to do that, Maybe I do need to do
a ranking, but this beer would probably most definitely most
definitely be in that top. I have not brought this
beer to the show. And this is an award winning
Octoberfest and I tried to look up the accolades and
they don't have it on the website. But I've been
in the auditorium at the Great American Beer Festival when
this beer has won an award from Houston, Texas. The

(50:32):
Carbock october Fest is probably on my Oh I don't
even know top five, at least maybe top three.

Speaker 3 (50:39):
It's it's really now that okay, So I'm gonna go
beer fest beer. Not a Marsin slash october Fest. It's
a Marsin or sorry, It's a fest beer, a little
bit lighter and a little bit more refreshing, lower ABV.
I've had this, we got this act. So just to
if you think Octoberfest beers come out too early, I say,

(51:01):
you have no idea what you're talking about. I was
in Iowa in July during Ragbrie drinking this beer.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
Well, you know why they have to put out oh,
you know why they have to put out the october Fest.

Speaker 3 (51:13):
In July because on October thirty first, every can of Octoberfest.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
Explodes, according to consumers.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
But yours didn't.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
No, mine didn't.

Speaker 3 (51:24):
And uh, this is but you know we remember what
Scott was it?

Speaker 1 (51:27):
Scott Metzger, Scott Metsker. Yeah, one of the all time
great interviews I've done.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
Can we career cale say what he said?

Speaker 1 (51:35):
Yeah, because I aired it.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
Okay, here it is, ladies and gentlemen. This is not
probably ought to run into disclaimer. Now we did not
say this, but James, go ahead. What did he say about?
I asked him october Fest beer.

Speaker 1 (51:47):
We were talking about consumer reports and I asked him
why are consumers so drawn off when it comes to
october Fest beers in November? And he really didn't have
like an answer for me. More or less, He's like,
you know, out of don't know, maybe they all think
that on November first, every can of october Fest just
turns into a beater can of aids.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
Like hey, and you heard that correctly, folks.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
Yeah, he says it turns into a can of aids
like so yeah, And I had to laugh because he run,
Like I said, he didn't have a real answer for me,
you know, because at that time it was still early.
I mean I did this interview probably in twenty fourteen,
twenty fifteen, so it was very early when people are
still trying to figure out why people weren't drinking Octoberfest
in November and December. And his answer was just I

(52:34):
don't know. Maybe it just turns into cansab ads, who knows.
But anyways, let me get back to this car car
october Fest, the Bimbruarian style lagger. And this comes to
you at five point five percent, so a little lower
than the Austat which is at five point nine. But
it's just it's a traditional Mars and lagger German Noble
hops brood, extremely well rounded, very well rounded, and uh

(52:58):
it's very tasty. And I know this is one of
those beers that they have to put it out early
because I mean it's very very hard to get towards
the end of October. Like you go look around, you
won't find it because that it sells out like that.
That's how popular this beer is.

Speaker 3 (53:13):
It's a very popular beer. And they mass produce it
too for a seasonal being that it's Carbock and Carbuck
is a craft. Well sorry, some people got mad at
them now all of a sudden, but they're owned by
Anheuser Busch.

Speaker 1 (53:26):
I don't care who this is a fantastic beer.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
It's a great and you can tell.

Speaker 1 (53:30):
You can tell it's been cold aged because it's so
thin and it goes down so smooth.

Speaker 3 (53:35):
I thought you were gonna tell me because the mountains
on the side were blue. But all right, cool.

Speaker 1 (53:39):
Anyways, shoutout Carbo Brewing Company, Carbo october Fest, Barbarian style Marsin.
And this might conclude my october Fest season of twenty
twenty five.

Speaker 3 (53:47):
All right, well, there you go.

Speaker 1 (53:48):
Although I still have like five more october Fests in
my fridge here.

Speaker 3 (53:52):
But you're not gonna bring them on the show.

Speaker 1 (53:53):
No, I may bring them to the show. I may not.

Speaker 3 (53:55):
Well, then you're not done.

Speaker 1 (53:56):
You'repp they won't be brought to the.

Speaker 3 (53:59):
T Who cares? You're tripping in Munich?

Speaker 1 (54:03):
Alright, you're there, all right, it is it is good man.

Speaker 3 (54:06):
You can't let go. That's your thing, right there.

Speaker 1 (54:08):
I do have set yeah, I do have separation issues.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
There, a separation of anxieties like lineus with a blanket,
you know, he I'm not letting go Max, how fasts?
All right? Hold on, it's a great pumpkin, Charlie bro
I don't care. I want my october Fest well, Christmas,
I want my October Fest search with a blanket. Pretty
soon it's a bed sheet. Pretty soon you're strung. Alright,

(54:36):
Why isn't there a white castle in Houston? All right?
Never mind, we went too far, all right, speaking of
stringing out and freaking out and everything, you remember when
Bush came out with the apple Apple Apple Apple. Yeah,
you open up a can of bush apple, you open
up a cann of Bush beer, and he goes bush

(55:00):
and then you open up a can of bush apple
and he goes apple, and it just did. It is
a magic how that happened.

Speaker 1 (55:06):
I'll tell you. Have you had the beer the bush apple?
Oh yeah, okay. I went to try to find it.
I couldn't find it. Everywhere was always sold out. I
went to a couple shower. I told you. I went
to a couple of shower and they had it at
the couple shower and I drink and I was like, oh, okay,
this is the hype. It's okay. But I mean I
wouldn't go stock, you know, case after case in my
shopping cart, like lots of people were. But apparently it's popular.

(55:28):
It's just I'm very popular.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
They put limits on it and I thought about buying it,
but I was like, you gotta buy a twelve pack minimum.
It was funny because they put on there and said
two case max, and I was like, I just want
two cans. How do I get out of here with
just two cakes?

Speaker 1 (55:47):
The mixer sixer on the Endcaptor, No.

Speaker 3 (55:50):
They weren't. And by the way, notice noticeably ascent from
the top ten drinks also not just beer but cider.
I know Cier wasn't on the list, and I know
I don't want Greg Hall over there. Virtue citor. He'd
take issue with that because like, wait a minute, come on, man,
Well Nita was Seltzer, So Seltzer wasn't on there. Yeah,

(56:12):
you're right, Okay, all right, maybe because they throw them
at concerts or country Western concerts, but we'll talk about
that if we don't. To be continued, but Yongling has
a brand new release. And by the way, I'm gonna
tell you the copy on this is gold here. It
is a Chris Pilster style beer. Oh yes, the Aroma's refreshing.

(56:33):
It tastes the highlight of the season, balance hop and
malt profile, creating a smooth finish, an easy and satisfying
choice for cool evenings and seasonal celebrations. Oh man, I
can't wait to try this. Ladies and Gentlemen, DG Yongling
and Sons, the oldest brewery in the United States, announcing

(56:55):
the release of their brand new Yingling Apple Beer. Yeah
there it is apple Apple, Apple Apple. So the latest
entry into the Eagle series, number thirteen is a new
apple beer. So they're yeah, yeah, you know, ride those coattails.

(57:19):
A crisp Pilsner style beer. Oh yeah, here it is.
Opens with bright apple aromas and the refreshing taste highlighted
by the mild apple tarkness and has a touch of
autumn character. Man, somebody in the pr department worked hard
on this. It's crisp flavor and hint of orchard freshness.
All Yingling Apple Beer is the perfect way to toast

(57:42):
to fall. Oh and my guess is they're not gonna
sell out.

Speaker 1 (57:47):
I don't know, Bush fans people like the Apple beers.
We'll see. I know, I know it's gonna it's gonna
You're gonna have one influencer on TikTok. You go. This
is the best beer I ever had, And all of
a sudden, you have all these gen zers whatever going
out and getting it now, that's oh you'll batch yea somewhere.
We're twenty one now, all right, we gotta take a break,
so to come, let's talk about this beer easing loneliness

(58:09):
and tackles the mental health epidemic. According to a CEO,
not what's on tap radio. CEO, we'll tell you what
CEO said that coming up, what's on tap A you're
hanging with us. We'll bright back.

Speaker 2 (58:17):
And the teacher said, no, Bobby, there's no such time
as beer.

Speaker 3 (58:22):
Oclock fire that teacher.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
This is what's on tap radio.

Speaker 3 (58:42):
All right, welcome back to What's on Tap Radio? And
I have I just have to say here, you know,
hanging out with Harvard light Bill in the Beer Logic
World headquarters in drinking and forium, I'm gonna say this.
I was a little sad to hear that our good
friend Brian Holds was not there drinking beer with James

(59:02):
this week. James just drinking solo at studio ass he.

Speaker 1 (59:08):
Is, I am. He's been under the weather. I reached
out to him and asked him if you want to
come out, and he said he's been filing a little
under the weather. So hopefully he'll be back to his
normal self and he can come hang out. Yeah. I've
reached out to Brian and unfortunately not feeling well.

Speaker 3 (59:26):
Yeah. Now, speaking of people that you hang out with,
I was going back and I was thinking about the
official What's on Tap Radio fun fact of the week,
and when I lived in Texas, I lived out there
in Cyprus near our good friend Fire Marshall Matt right,
and he had a pool. He had a pool in
his backyard. Yep, there's a name drop for him, yep, exactly.
And I just realized something. All these years that I

(59:50):
lived there and all these years he had a pool,
and all these years we were drinking and floating in
the pool. Not once was I familiar with the term.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
Flinking you every day, Chad.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
That's a missed opportunity right there, it is, I know. Meanwhile,
I'm hanging out with Harvard light Bill. And speaking of
hanging out with Harvary light Bill, we got some Oakstown
beer here, Mark, good buddy, Mark, do go ahead, and
they give me a name drop, name drop? What's up? Bill? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:00:16):
So, uh, I originally wanted to go light to dark
ended up and I ended up going light to dark.
So the last one here is shadow people. It's a
triple stout, very dark, chocolated, dark chocolate, cocoa. You know,
just I think it's a fantastic beer. Seven percent.

Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
It's just wait a minute, wait a minute, back up,
what's the style beer on this triple stout? And it
comes in what seven percent?

Speaker 4 (01:00:44):
Now, triple stout doesn't mean it's high alcohol. It's got
the three big chocolate stout or oh I see grains
in it. It's got the chocolate, it's got the roasted barley,
it's got the.

Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
This is when this is. This is a lot like
whenever Carbock came out with their quintuple ipa and it
was like five different hops or something. I but it
wasn't five times. Okay, this is all right. First of all,
not a triple stout. I'm sorry, but it is roasty
and it tastes exactly like you want an American stout

(01:01:21):
to taste. To me, This brings me back to the roots,
if we're going back to basics. This is what you
when somebody says, well, what's an American stout taste like this?
Right here, Sierra Nevada anchor, I'm trying to think of
some of the other classic American stouts. I think Stone
had one. This is good stuff. So that's what we

(01:01:43):
kind of kick things off, all right, So that's what
we're having.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
There's going it's really dark this episode with these beers.
You've got four hours in darkness. We got a triple.

Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
Four miles miles hours.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Yeah, okay, I knew it was something like that, but
just going.

Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Dark four hours is too long. Four miles we can
handle that, Like if the car breaks down, we can
walk back four hours.

Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
We were six thing. What's the last time you had a
good Russian Imperial style? Oh it's been a minute since
I've had one, and I need to.

Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Get as man, that'll change your life.

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Yeah, I love a good Russian Amperio style. All right,
we got to talk about this. So there's this CEO
out there.

Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
My new urging CEO in the world.

Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Who's urging that beer has benefits of rising loneliness and
helping with mental healthness. You want to know the CEO
none other than the Heudeken CEO.

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
All right, yep. In fact, I'm gonna go get a
Heineken later today.

Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
Yeah, Heineken CEO says beer might just help ease loneliness.
That's right. Dulph van den Brink, the head of the
Dutch brewing giant, says beer's social role could be more
important than ever in the world struggling with mental health
and isolation.

Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
If I was having one more kid, I would name
my kid. What would I name him? Again?

Speaker 1 (01:02:57):
His name is Dulph van den Brink.

Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
Yep, that's what I'd be going with.

Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
In an interview he did with Financial Times, Van den
Brink described the beer as social lubricant, something that helps
bring people together, and with loneliness now called a global epidemic,
he's urging what he calls balanced conversation about alcohol. His
comments that come as Heineken announced is a new five
year growth plan, hoping to boost beer sales after a

(01:03:23):
dip in demand. The company's shares are still down about
twenty percent from the twenty twenty three peak. However, not
everyone's raising a glass to the idea. Let me introduce
you to who the Worldwide Health Organization.

Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
Oh yeah, they've had a Hey, not that they've ever
had an opinion on the subjects related to health, but
they may have got one wrong, and they're always wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
Yep. Who at Harbor Light Bill who is coming out
saying no level of alcohol is safe. It's classified as
a group one Carson Engen, right alongside asbestos and a
tobacco who warns that even small amounts so can increase
the risk of cancer, liver disease and mental health issues. Still,

(01:04:13):
Van den Brink says the issue deserves nuance. He points
on the beer that it's a part of the human
life for over thousands of years.

Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Yeah, hello, winning yep.

Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
From ancients Messimotamia. Obviously not easy for me to say
to today's pubs and roofage Mesopotamia.

Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
No, no, no, no, he got no James, you said
it right.

Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
Heidikid is even trying to modernize the social tradition, hosting
rooftop revival events to turn empty city rooftops into community
gathering spots, sometimes with non alcoholic beers in hand. So
you know, Heineken has an na brand, So beer can
really help bridge social isolation or is this just a
clever corporate spin. That's the conversation that it's a good point,

(01:04:56):
but you know it just takes a while to digest.
So while one CEO as it helps loneliness, the World
Health organization says not so fast.

Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
Yeah, whatever, all right, I love how the WHO World
Health or organization says yeah, it can affect your mental
health negatively, and the CEO says, wait a minute, it's
gonna help you positively because it's going to get you
out of the house. Social engagement and loneliness is an epidemic,
which brings us back full circle to the dating question

(01:05:29):
that our listener sent, And that dating question is is like, well,
is it wrong for me to order a beer whenever
I go to a cocktail bart Listen, you want to
be lonely? Listen, you put up with the guy order
in the beer. And by the way, guys, this goes
the other way too. Listen, this goes the other way.
If you go out to a fancy restaurant and you're

(01:05:52):
trying to impress and she orders the chicken at a steakhouse,
shut up, man, Just look. She saved you some money,
is what she did. But if she wants to order
chicken at a steakhouse, you let it go. And also
speaking of letting it go, the World Health Organization do
you really think that just saying well, we disagree. Oh

(01:06:15):
wait a minute, the World Health Organization disagrees. Hey, everybody,
gather around, we put and put your drinks down, because
the World Health Organization speaketh. All right, The World Health
Organization has spoken, and thou hast said that thy alcohol
is bad for thine self, and one must abstaineth from drinking.

(01:06:39):
I don't think so nobody is. It's been going on
since me. Wait, what was it again, James, say it again? Messopotania,
all right? Ancient Mesopota ancient, Yes, and it's I'm sorry,
the World Health organ Organization. You may have the title,

(01:07:02):
uh in name only, but you're losing on credibility because
people keep drinking and they keep living. If they only
had the education to go along with that title. Yeah,
or the experience.

Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
What speed of loneliness? I've seen this before and I'm
I'm a fan of it. Going to the bar by yourself? Oh,
what are your thoughts on that? You don't know? You're
not you don't have anyone to hang out with, you know, like,
let me just go belly up to a bar and
just sit there by myself.

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
Been there, done that? Yep? Uh. Sunday afternoon, I don't
want to watch a game, and my wife's taking a nap,
I've got nothing going on, you know, whatever it is.
I mean, you know what other than the show?

Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
What about a bar that you don't know? It's like,
you've never been to that bar before. You're not a regular.
You just pop into a little dive bar and belly.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Up, yes, oh yeah, finish up. Yeah. I'm coming home
from a soccer match. I never drink before a soccer match.
After I'm like, where am I going to get a beer?
In a sandwich? And and you just roll in and
you sit down by yourself. But after doing the show,
wife's taking the nap, let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:08:14):
Some people feel like that's they can't do. It's cringey.
They're like, I can't go to a bar and sit
by myself. I can go. I can go to a
restaurant in you by myself.

Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
What was the Yeah, what was the movie? I think
it was Hope Floats And it was not Harry Connick Junior.
Maybe it was him, whoever it was that was in that.
There was There was a There was a guy and
he says the secret to eating at a restaurant by
yourself is to make it look like you chose to do.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
That, right, And some people they do it because they
just want the peace and quiet. Maybe their life's chaotic.

Speaker 3 (01:08:50):
Yeah, but I've done a lot of that.

Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
I've gone to the movies by myself. I go golfer
by myself. I've got to the barb done a lot
of things. You gotta feel comfortable with yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
Yeah, we're not lonely.

Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
We just so. That's why you order the beer at
a fancy cocktail bar on a first date.

Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
That's why we just want some quietness right now. And
then all right, we gotta take a break. We got
one more segment coming up. We're gonna talk about the
Kelsey Brothers garage beer. They got a new way to
tackle your hated fall chores. Oh, this is so much
more hanging out in the last segment. We'll be right
back beer.

Speaker 2 (01:09:22):
It's like pouring smiles on your brain. What's on tap
Radio continues?

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
All right, last segment of the week. Still got so
much to get to. And then again, if we don't
get to all the stories to be continued, we'll be
back next week to bring in the stories that we
didn't get to. But we're gonna try to do rapid
fire here. I remember to get ahold of the show
reach out to us what's on tap rido at gmail
dot com, go to our social what's on tap rideo, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok,

(01:10:01):
YouTube x all the major platforms, and then let us
know if ordering a beer on a first date is
a turn off. So that was a big question we
answered earlier listener email. But before we get out of here,
Garage Beer talked about the many times Kelsey Brothers, Well
they have designed get this. Guys. Have you ever thought

(01:10:21):
to yourself, you're raking the leaves sucks? You know, It's
like it's just endless amount of leaves just coming down.
You're like, you know, if I only had holder to
put a beer on my rake, my life would be complete.

Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
I was thinking that just the other day.

Speaker 1 (01:10:40):
Well, ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the
can held rake. It's marketing it towards weekend warriors who
faced the dreaded fall leaf raking season with Gusto. The
innovative rake is designed with a canholder, so your garage
beer will just be in arm's length away when you
need a quick break from all the raking and back.

(01:11:01):
So whether you're raking or hiding from your family in
a pile of your leaves that you made for the kids.
The Rake has your back. The Rake is coming at
nineteen ninety nine plus shipping and handling, and it's available
at dot com. No sponsor, So I can't plug a website.

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
No you can't.

Speaker 1 (01:11:19):
You can't do that, Nope, they can. Held Rake is
the latest creation backed by Garage Beer, which is owned
by Travis and Jason Kelsey. And the last innovation if
you remember they talked about we talked about on the
show the beer bed, which is the company gave away
on social media to one social media follower which you
had a Cagla writ or you know, a tap handle

(01:11:39):
on the bed rest, you know, so you can get
a beer when you're sitting there watching the game.

Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
Well last week they are laying in bed.

Speaker 1 (01:11:47):
Or laying in bed. Yeah, but the company is also
branching out to offering options to elevate tailgates. I'm not
sure how a rake will help a tailgate, but hey,
maybe you're pulling up to the to the lot and
or some leaves.

Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
I pulled up. If they had if they had one
for a shovel, that would have been great because when
I tailgate the MSU man, there were a few times
I had to go out and shovel off off the grass.

Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
So last week Garage Beer announced collapse with Kansas City
Rufus Tigue, a new line of beer infused beercue sauces,
beer infused beercue sauces. The company is also working with
Guy Snacks on potato chips. So these guys.

Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
Are whoa chip pairing chip par whoa whoa.

Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
The best way to do handle that is get one
of those auto vacuum big things you pulled behind your
tractor when you're bowing and pull up police. Then you
could put your beer right in the beer holder you
got on the craft.

Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
I had a beer holder on my lawnmower once and
I snapped it like the first time I took a
corner and hit the gate step right off.

Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
Oh yeah, you must not have a rider.

Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
No, No, I don't have a right.

Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
Yeah, I've got a rider right now.

Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
No, I'm in my yard so small. It's like the
first two years.

Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
First two years I lived back here in Michigan, I
raked my leaves and it sucked. I got a big
I got a big yard. Yes it sucked.

Speaker 1 (01:13:09):
Do you need a bear? Do you need a beard?
Can held Rake, Well, I thought I did.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
I did. In fact, I was. I was looking for one.
I was trying to invent it, and damn it, Kelsey Brothers,
they scooped me my idea. Yeah all right, hey, then
real last here, I realized this. I realized this. Just
mow one more time and the mulch it and it
goes right into the ground.

Speaker 1 (01:13:32):
Yeah that's one. Wait and actually it's pretty good for
the soil to do that too. Yeah that's what all right,
real quick, we talked about this in twenty twenty two.
I don't remember, but Chad is, he's got a great memory.
But this guy, Jameson Rogers, well, one time he was
doing a show in Nashville and he decided, you know,
let me throw some beers out to the crowd. Ended
up throwing a Miller light and hitting a fan, and

(01:13:57):
ended up turning into a lawsuit. There's a new lawsuit
that claims Rogers and others tossed unopened cans of Miller
Lite into the audience, causing quote unquote severe and permanent injuries,
and the woman is also suiting Sony Music Rogers label,
which would remain definitive since it's performing as their artist,
but Sonya said, hey, we are not affiliated. We don't know,

(01:14:17):
we didn't put on this concert. But there's no been ruling.
There's no ruling in the case yet.

Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Have deep pockets though, Yeah, But.

Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
The case has reunited concerns about rowdy concert behavior, especially
as beer throwings to become an alarming trend in country shows,
so much that many country artists have said, hey, we
need to stop that. We had a country artist that
walked off stage once because somebody threw a beer at them.
But for Jameson Rodgers, a fallout could be more than
just bad press. It could be the reason why he

(01:14:46):
vanished from country music's main stage. He has taken a step.

Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
Yeah, remember the last time we played his number one
hit No No's.

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
For his hit cold Beer Calling Name that he did
with Luke Combs. Well, now he's being sued by a woman.
He says that he hit her in the head with
a full can, and.

Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
Luke Colmbs right now is like, I don't even remember
recording that. Who's that guy again?

Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
I don't Apparently this happened in at twenty twenty music
festival in New Jersey, so.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
I'm surprised she isn't suing him too, geez.

Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
But you know how it is. You know they're they're
trying to hide the crowd out and they're throwing beers out.
And maybe probably what happened is he threw it to
somebody who who tried to catch it but sucked at
catching and it ricocheted off his hand and it ended
up hitting somebody behind them. In this case, this woman,
and now she's suing for severe and permanent injuries.

Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
All right, Well, I'm not gonna say that this never happened,
But hypothetically, if my wife threw a beer at me
while I was uh right right, flinking, blinking, flinking in
the pool, floating and drinking, and and it skipped across
the water and hit me in the forehead and cut me,
I would not sue her, all right, I would not.

(01:16:00):
All right, we need to end the show on a
feel good story. Let's put a bow on the show
and feel a little bit better about ourselves. And it's
gonna sound like a sad story kicking things off, because
we're gonna talk about a Colorado widow and not only
is she Colorado widow, but her husband was a first
responder who was killed in a car crash caused by
robbers fleeing a crime scene.

Speaker 1 (01:16:22):
Yikes.

Speaker 3 (01:16:23):
Yeah. Catherine Severns Avery, who is the widow when her
when her husband Chris Avery, was killed in the car crash,
decided to give back in memory of her husband and
wanted to create a restoration ranch in a wilderness retreat
to help first responders unwind and relax. Now that's pretty awesome,

(01:16:45):
as I have to do with beer. Oh, you're about
to find out. Because they've hired two full time ranch managers.
They've elevated the property. There's four miles of groomed hiking
trails being converted into wellness trails, so if you need
to get a wellness check or whatever it is out there,
you can go out there on the trails. It's awesome,
it's fantastic. However, there's a small little problem. They're accepting

(01:17:09):
tons of reservations, places practically booked through twenty twenty six,
and it costs five hundred dollars a day to keep
the ranch open. And she didn't know what to do.
And she hasn't won the lottery yet, has She laughed
and joked, but she says, hey, I'm coming up with
these ideas and Hey, you know what, maybe I could
come up with a beer to sell in honor of

(01:17:29):
her husband. Yeah, this is pretty cool idea. It's a
great idea, except the first person that she partnered with
it kind of fell through. But yeah, I know, like,
all right, well, what happens next? She hooks up with
somebody at the Metropolitan State University of Denver on accident.

(01:17:50):
Wait what now? When I say hooked up, I don't
mean like a first date and they went out to
an expensive cocktail are a beer? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
No.

Speaker 3 (01:17:58):
What happened was Bardon members for the Retreats invited them
to the MSU School Hospitality gala and there was an
item up for auction. It was to make your own beer.
So she decided to bid on it, and she bid
on it. She was the only one who did and
won the bid for four hundred dollars. Nice and worked

(01:18:21):
to make lights in Sirens Lagger with MSU brewing professor
Bernardo Alatori, and they said it's great for our students
because they get the experience working with a client from
creation to delivery. Huge commitment to give back in honor
of her first responder husband who died in a tragic accident,

(01:18:43):
Chris Avery, give it up. I love this, Catherine Savernes
Avery and MSU of Denver, Colorado respecting first responders and
that retreat and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you
put a bow on the show. And then on a
high note, it's been a fun episode of What's on
Tap Radio and if we didn't get to your favorite story,
tune in next week to be continued. But before we leave, James,

(01:19:05):
think all of the wonderful.

Speaker 1 (01:19:06):
The music plays us off. Let's think our sponsors at
being Beta Lodgic conference events, the Backyard Girl, keeping the
Last Nights and bright things for our friends over a
harp Light brewing, and of course sponsoring our podcast Cass Branding.
So for mister Bitta Logic himself, mister Chad Pilbe, harbor
