Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kelly Golden Show podcast powered by Disaster
Plus on a big fail Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Storm season is here. I am not a paniker. I
am a preparer and I got to tell you the
whole home generator from Generator Supercenter of Charleston. This generak
has already cut on just with the summer storms we've
experienced in the last week in my home tool twice
strict Strickland Generator Supercenter of Charleston.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
That generak is the bomb.

Speaker 4 (00:30):
I knew you would like it when we installed it
a couple of years ago. Kelly, I know this recent
weather that's popped off. You've certainly got good use out
of it. And you know, use the word panic, and
we don't like to use the word panic either, you
know when it comes to providing our homeowners with backup solutions.
But it's better to have it and not need it
than need it and not have it.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
This is true, and I'm so thankful for it and
actually just got it serviced. So for those who've actually
already pulled the trigger on their generat generator from Generator
Supercenter of Charleston or not sure, we.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Would love it if homeowners would give us the opportunity
to complete the install But there are thousands of generators
out there in the local market that don't have anyone
that services them. And we see this every time we
have a traumatic, panic inducing weather event. Is that we
hear from folks that say, oh, I have a generator,
make it work, and you know, we've literally got a
hurricane at our front door. We encourage everyone to get

(01:20):
out in front of the machine, make sure that it's
on green, it's on standby, it's ready to provide you
back up in the event of an outage. Get on
our monitoring and maintenance plan. It's about thirty nine dollars
a month. We service the unit once a year. We
change the oil, the air filters, the spark plugs, much
like a car because it is an engine that provides electricity.
But sort of the sizzle of our maintenance plan is

(01:41):
the monitoring. We install a cellular driven device on the
side of the unit that we can see your unit.
We can make sure that it's on standby, we can
clear out errors, we can adjust your exercise time. We
can advise you as the homeowner, to the conditioned state
and readiness of your machine.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
So it's not if it's win when it comes to
storm season, and if you have waited to get a generator,
what are you waiting for?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Is it too late? Because we're right now early in
the season.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Correct, right now? You know, in our business is seasonal
and cyclical. It just happens every year at Christmas, I
can barely give generators away. Nobody's thinking about a generator.
But once it starts to get warm and Noah releases
their hurricane prediction for the year, that's when it becomes
part of the zeitgeist again. People want to talk about generators.

(02:30):
They start remembering the hurricanes of last year, which was
Debbie and Helene late in the summer early fall, where
you know, the Charleston area did dodge a near miss,
but areas very close to us we're not so fortunate.
You know, Colombia was out of power for weeks. Greenville
was out of power for weeks, as well as Georgia
and North Carolina. But that does create to some extent

(02:52):
a choke point in terms of getting generators installed. We're
hearing from a lot of people where maybe they weren't
ready to go. It wasn't on the forefront of their mind.
You know, early in the year you know, February marks.
But now that it's getting warmer, we're having these recent
outages here in the low country and they're now calling
us and saying, okay, I'm ready to go, and we're
going to experience that all through the summer, all the

(03:14):
way up through Labor Day, all the way to Halloween.
And we encourage folks, if you do want to get
the generator installed, get on the schedule right, let us
get you installed. Let us get that unit going and
make sure that it's on standby awaiting the next outage.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Right oh way, So as eight four three eight zero
six twenty five seventy nine Generator Supercenter of Charleston dot Com,
we're talking with Strict Stricklin. If you're just tuning in
about the pending storm season, we're here. It's here. My
own generat standby generator kicked on twice in the last week.
And so the folks that were like, all right, let's
get it done. How long if they pull the trigger

(03:50):
right now? Is it going to take them?

Speaker 4 (03:51):
So right now? You know, our promise window kind of
air quotes, that's how we refer to it. With our
project management team, who's going to handle the entire minutia
of the generator install from contacting the permitting office, from
contacting the utility company, discussing the completion of the installation
with the inspector. We handle all of that stuff, you know, turnkey.

(04:13):
It's just kind of a generic boilerplate word, but you know,
we truly do handle the entire installation of the generator,
and we also handle all of the servicing and maintenance
and monitoring of the generator for the entire life cycle
of the machine. But to answer your question right now,
we're at about a forty five to fifty day window
for installation. That grows throughout the summer as more and

(04:35):
more customers pull the trigger. So typically by the end
of September October we're at about a sixty to ninety
day installing and that's without a weather event. So if
we get whacked upside the head with a hurricane all
of a sudden, the demand just goes through the roof
and our install window becomes six months, nine months a year.
It's just the nature of it. We would we love

(04:57):
to try and prevent that, and we do everything we can,
from adding on additional GENERAC certified crews to install generators
to hiring more service technicians. We do everything we can
do as a business to try and anticipate demand, but
sometimes we just can't predict sort of the hurricane activity.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
So of course the comfort level of this, the safety.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Level of this, having the lights go out and immediately
come back on within sixty seconds is important to point out,
but also adding to the value of your home one
of your biggest investments.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
It is. You know, we also work with a lot
of builders locally, specifically custom home builders. They're now adding
on generators. We invite all builders to give us a
call talk to us about the Builder Alliance program we
have with GENERAC right a lot of builders, you know,
we do a lot on Sullivan's Island, I l of
palms all over the area. During the design phase, you know,

(05:49):
typically generators can sometimes be an afterthought in the construction
and design. But we're talking to more and more custom
home builders and they're understanding that the generator is part
of the initial design and initial build. And what I
mean by that is a homeowner who's building their forever
house or a custom home or what they've always wanted
to do, they're putting all of this investment into hardwood

(06:10):
floors and wallpaper, and irrigation systems and swimming pools, and essentially,
as soon as the power goes out, whether it's a
two hour outage, two day or two week, your home
essentially stops breathing. So under the right weather conditions, on
an extended outage, all of a sudden, you've got buckling hardwoods.
You've got your wallpaper peeling off. You've got your pumps
not working, whether it's well pumps or swimming pool pumps.

(06:33):
It's just a bad case, you know, all around. So
we encourage new homes to get installed with the generator
as well to protect that investment.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
It's a great idea. Eight four three, eight zero six
two five seventy nine. Can't give the phone number out
probably enough strict Trickle E Generator Supercenter, Charleston dot com.
Let's talk about your service area?

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Sure, yeah?

Speaker 4 (06:49):
And services again, that's the servicing the unit for the
entire life cycle of the machine. You know, we talk
to homeowners and we say it's your machine. We're going
to help you manage it. We're gonna help you make
sure that it's running so when you do need it,
you're confident, you know, the generat comes with an indicator
light on the side that you know you can walk
out have a look at your machine. You can go

(07:10):
to our Generator super Center of Charleston Myrtlebeach YouTube channel.
We've got videos on how to complete a simulated outage
and test your machine. It's about a two minute video.
It's really resourceful, you know, if you want to try
out your machine. Whenever we do a service with a
customer and we come out to your house and we
change the oil the air filter, we always knock on
the door and we say, hey, can we simulate an

(07:31):
outage to make sure that the generator is fully operable.
That's one thing we offer it no additional cost, and
you can call us anytime to ask us the status
of your generator. We'll send you screenshots, we'll send you links.
You can talk to our service coordinator Kala, who handles
all of our monitoring and maintenance for all of our generators.
So it really is a valued resource for homeowners and.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
For those orphin generator owners out there who maybe didn't
purchase through you, but still need a servicing.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
It may as well make the phone call exactly.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
And you know, we have a term we use just
kind of generator industry wide. It's called an orphan generator. Now,
that doesn't mean that Generator Supercenter installed it. Maybe some
other you know, entity or electrician installed it. Or maybe
you and your your buddy or your neighbor installed it,
you know, a few years ago, and you got it done.
It's running, but you're not really sure as to whether
or not it's going to work this fall if you
need it. We call those orphan generators. Those are generators

(08:24):
that we didn't install, but they do fall under our
service program. We get them serviced, we get them monitored,
We get them up and running so that you have
the peace of mind that that generator will run if
it needs to.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
All is for those of you who are ready to
check out Generator Supercenter of Charleston dot com. You service.
When I say service, that means installed too for new buyers.
So Dorchester, Berkeley, Charleston.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Correct.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
We have a store in Charleston which is actually in
Mount Pleasant. It's where five twenty six ends right right
there into Mount Pleasant. We would love for folks to
come over visit us in our showroom, come look and
see our existing inventory. We have a warehouse full of
generators ready for install We've gone ahead and done a
large purchase from the manufacture to get everything ready for

(09:08):
the season. Right. We have a showroom. You can look
and see and touch and feel the generator. You can
talk to one of our representatives there understand sort of
the layout of the installation, how it works from a
fuel perspective, talk about whether or not you have natural
gas or propane. We can provide a propane tank fuel
system if you need if you don't have natural gas
at your home. So we love for customers to come

(09:30):
visit us at our showroom three one four Stuart Ingles
Boulevard in Mount Pleasant, kind of near the Walmart in
South Mount Pleasant.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
You mentioned the YouTube channel.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
They're representing the Myrtle Beach area, so you service the
entire coast here along South Carolina.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
That's correct. We also have a store in Myrtle Beach
that's Generator super Center of Myrtle Beach. We're reaching out
to folks in that area as well, and we cover folks,
you know, out of necessity customers that have called. In Columbia.
We've installed some a lot of generators in that market
due to the hurricane activity. But our territory so to
speak is basically the entire coastal portion of South Carolina

(10:09):
from Charleston County all the way up to the North
Carolina border. And then we have a sister store that
covers North Carolina out of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
We're continuing the conversation with a strict strickling its Generator
Supercenter of Charleston dot com.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
You talked about your inventory.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I love that you have brick and border stores that
you can walk into and actually speak to you know,
you or someone you know on your staff. You can
put your hands on what this generator looks like, even
what it sounds like. I'm assuming they can crank up
a generator anytime. Absolutely, it's great you have inventory on standby.
Is that because of the threat of tariffs?

Speaker 4 (10:41):
You know, it's interesting you mentioned that, you know one
thing I should also talk about as our fully stocked
service inventory. So we have the largest sort of parts
cage of generat service materials and maintenance materials, repair parts
in the on the coastal area of South Carolina. Absolutely
one hundred percent between Beach in Charleston Generak. You know

(11:02):
they're a publicly traded company. There are manufacturer they do
price increases periodically. I don't know if it's terrif related,
but they've certainly already done two price increases over the
course of the calendar year since the beginning of twenty
twenty five. We don't always know when those are coming.
We usually get about a thirty five forty sixty day
heads up, but they are increasing prices not only on

(11:26):
the manufacturer of the generators themselves, but also on some
of the service parts and materials. We do everything we
can to keep our prices stabilized and as low and
as affordable as possible for our homeowners, but it is
a factor that we do deal with.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
So again its Generator Supercenter of Charleston dot Com. Now
is the time. If you're listening right now, it's time,
because you've got storm season already kicked off here for June.
We're rolling all the way through the end of November.
I almost cringe talking about this out loud, because it's
unbelievable long storm season last year in the low Country
and beyond.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
We have some great payover time options. It's an expensive project.
It's thousands of dollars to have a whole home stand
by GENERAC generator installed at your home. But we do
work with Synchrony Bank to get the financing process so
that the customer can pay over time if they so choose,
they don't have to come out of pocket for the generator.
Where it's whether it's an air cool generator or it's

(12:21):
a liquid cold. An air coold is the most ubiquitous
popular model of generator on the North American market. If
you know someone that has a generator, it's probably a
Generat Guardian series air cool generator. But we also do
a tremendous amount of liquid cool generators which are larger,
you know, thirty two kW and up, and that would
be something that we would talk to each and every

(12:42):
home owner about. We come out to the house, we
do a load calculation based on the structure's electrical demand,
and we custom configure which generator size is right for you.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
All right, let's hope we spray that you pick of
the phone, go to Generator Supersentator Charleston dot com without
any delay. Storm season is already here. It only takes
one and that includes just these crazy afternoon summer storms
we're already experiencing.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
So appreciate you. Strict good luck, sure, good.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
