Speaker 1 (00:03):
This is the Kelly Golden Show podcast powered by Disaster
Plus on a big veil Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Holy cow, it is busy the storm season. Strict with
Generator Supercenter of Charleston.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
How are you doing, Hey, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
It's good to have you back here in studio. I
know you're a busy man.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
We are this time of year, absolutely, with this current
storm activity. We have a lot of customers calling who
maybe we're previously hesitant about getting a whole home generator installed,
and we have a lot of customers who have a
whole home generator installed who are looking to make sure
it works this year.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
I already did that. You said you need to check
that generator.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Absolutely yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
If you have one out there, you need to give Strict,
a Generator Supercenter of Charleston and his crew a call.
So I'm going to give this number out a few times.
It's eight four three eight zero six two five seven nine,
because you need to get motivated. I mean, the storms
alone just on an afternoon summer pass have been.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
We are in the season. Absolutely yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I'm out in the country where there's so many trees
and you lose power first, you get it back last.
And if I'm describing where you live, you need to
get a generator, yep.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I mean even here in the town of Mount Pleasant,
in the old village, we have quite a few outages considerably.
But another thing that's worth mentioning is if you are
a whole home generator owner and your fuel source is propane,
go ahead and call your propane vendor make sure that
your tanks are topped off as we continue here through
storm season.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
That's okay, I need to put that on the list
because my list is long and I never get all
the way to the bottom of it.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Our generator for that reminder, Yeah, they run off either
natural gas or liquid propane. And natural gas is a
utility You don't really need to be concerned necessarily with
the fuel supply because it comes from the utility company.
But propane customers want to make sure that their propane
tanks are topped off as we continue through was what
looking like a busy season, So.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
I want to stay out in the country here for
a second. Go out to Edisto Island. Conversation with eighty
two year old military veteran. Yep, he says, my gosh,
just from the storms this past week. Tree down Lines
down on that dirt road to get to his property.
And I've heard him share this story multiple times. And
I said, when are you going to get a generator

(02:13):
for your wife?

Speaker 4 (02:15):
And you're a home and yeah, we don't need that.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I got it handled. He's so stubborn. I said, you
need to do this for your wife, Like, this is
it about you? Nobody's putting you down, but to you know,
have your generator and you have a routine, and that's okay.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
But what about when you're not around.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
We have a lot of customers that they say, look,
I'm tired of messing with the portable generator. I'm tired
of dumping gasoline into this thing. I'm tired of dragging
it out. I'm tired of, you know, getting it out
of the garage and getting out the extension cords. And
you know a lot of times your HVAC system, which
is connected to your entire panel, that doesn't just plug
into a portable generator, right, you need to have a
whole home generator that's integrated with your home's entire electric

(02:52):
panel in order for your home to truly work under
generator power.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Well, and he might be eighty two and runs around
like a forty something year old. That's great, but you're
not always going to be around when disaster, frankly strikes.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
And a lot of customers they buy them for future
need in the event that it's a two person household
that may become a one person household at some point.
And I will tell you absolutely, once wives have them,
they will not live without them, right. We see it
all the time.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yes, And there's a very personal story with my aunt
and uncle that I've shared on the air here, and
y'all installed a generator on James Island for them and
it caused a fight that purchase and my aunt eventually.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Had to say, you were right at honey, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
It was days that that generator was installed. When a
storm came in, they lost power immediately and it was
seconds the whole generator.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
And you know, as soon as the power goes out,
that transfer switch that's integrated in with your home's utility meter,
it detects that you've lost power and it turns the
generator on. Generator comes on, And it's important to realize
a generator is just an engine that creates electricity. That's
all it is. It's going to come on It's going
to run for the entire duration of the utility outage,
and once the power company comes out and resolves the issue,

(04:01):
the generator turns off. No dragon, a portable out of
the driveway, no dragging out extension cords. It's a seamless,
simple machine that does its job when it needs to,
totally automatically.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
It is one of the best investments I have made
in my home. I cannot recommend Generator Supercenter of Charleston
and stricken his crew here enough. I mean that my
parents now in Colombia after Helene, they need a generator.
We're talking about elder aging parents stuck in their homes
for mobility and also for stubbornness. Think serious medical needs

(04:32):
that six days without power that could have led to death.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
That is not me being hyperbolic.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
I don't want to be too hyperbolic about it to
use your word, but it is important. We do have
a lot of medical need customers that literally it's a
life or death situation. We have customers that are on
oxygen and typically those oxygen machines have about a two
to three hour windows. Yeah. Absolutely, we have everything from
a seapat machine to medication that can't lose refrigeration.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
See they needed a seed, you needed a fan.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I mean, it was a very dire situation and I
don't want to ever see that happening.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, well, let's get them on the phone. Make sure
they get taken care of too. For all customers who
are looking to get prepared for any future storms, whether
it's this season or the next season, we'll do our
best to get the generator installed as quickly as possible.
But also mostly a lot of customers and it's just
human nature. You don't think about the thing until you
need it. We encourage all customers that have a whole
home generator to test it. Look at our YouTube channel

(05:26):
Generator super Center of Charleston and Myrtle Beach. We have
a video on there called testing your Generator. Watch it.
You just flip a single switch and you you check
to see if the generator's working. If it's not working,
give us a call now. Come visit us at one
three one four Stewart Angles Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. Give
us a call at eight four three eight zero six
two five seven nine. Let's get your generator service. Let's

(05:47):
get it on our monitoring footprint. Let's make sure that
the generator works now, so then in the event that
a hurricane makes landfall, whether it's Aaron or the next hurricane,
up on the roster, let's make sure your generators working.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
These recent storms have proven they don't need a name
to be dangerous. You mentioned Mount Pleasant, My god, right
around the studios from here. You had that hoorrific.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Lightning ste that was impressive.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Yeah, it exploded a power poll. It brought the poll
down the lines across the street. It affected power all
throughout the area here. Absolutely, it doesn't matter whether we
are in storm season or not. Disasters happen. Welcome to
the Low Country. Everybody loves to say this is such
a wonderful place. I'm like, it's also can be a
very catastrophic one at times.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Well that's part of the fun, that's part of the
joy of living here, right Hurricane Alley.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
People need to be prepared, that's.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
It exactly, you know. And even for customers. If the
governor were to go on TV and say, look, we're
issuing evacuation order, we encourage all customers to right, all
citizens to take that advice. But in the event that
you don't want your home to lose power while you're gone.
If we got hit with an epic type situation, it
may be days before you can get back to your house,
and you'd rather come back to a house that hasn't
lost power as opposed to a house that now you've

(06:59):
got to out the fridge, the freezer, make sure your
alarm system stays on, make sure the pool system is working,
the irrigation. That you're not returning to a disaster. Even
if you do choose to evacuate, or if you choose
to stay, you simply don't want to lose power.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Once you pick up the phone and call eight four
three eight zero six two five seven nine, you can
then send me an email and say.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Thank you serious.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
You need to pick up the phone and stop dragging
your feet on this, because you're going to kick yourself
once that whole home generator kicks on, or whichever is
right for you, you're going to say why in the
world that I wait.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
We have extra staff on staff this time of year
because of the nature of hurricane season and because of
the demand. But again, we see so many residents that
come through our front door while the hurricane is making landfall,
trying to get their generator up and running. And we
do our best to service everyone as good as possible.
But the messaging here is just get a little bit
out in front of it, and let's make sure that

(07:52):
generator is working all right.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Strict with Generator super Center of Charles And what else
can we do to motivate people?

Speaker 3 (07:58):
That's it just be you know, hunker down, make sure
you're ready for it again. It's it's it's a pretty
simple thing to prepare for, but it is something that
just takes a small amount of diligence.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
What about people who are concerned about the price points
of this a.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Whole home standby generator, It is more expensive than a
portable generator that you're gonna have to drag out of
the garage. But we do offer pay over time options.
We have some six months options, seven year, and ten
year options. Our sales professionals that would come up to
your house would go through all of that stuff with you.
So we do encourage folks if they do want to
pay over time, to go ahead and do so.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Generator Supercenter of Charleston. You can add a dot com
or pick up the phone. It's eight four three eight
zero six two five seven nine strick.
