Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a Happy Wednesday friend. Welcome to the Thought Shower.
Internshown it's my name, Been a week, Been a week. Actually,
I'm kind of excited by the time this comes out.
I don't know if what posted it yet, but I
did like a day in my life vlog just to
show how busy I am, and not in a flexing way,

(00:20):
but I do believe that, Yeah, it's important.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
I think on social media we only see the highlight tape,
so I'm trying to show I know, I guess, like
I don't know. I don't really know what my thought
is on this because I know what people say, like
you know, oh, you're so lucky, and it's like, for
sure luck has played a role in things. I'm very blessed,
beyond belief, blessed with my family, my friends, you know

(00:47):
of the Lord obviously, but like there's a lot of
work that goes into this, you know what I mean,
and so and not that my like the radio show
is it hard mentally maybe, you know, is it manual labor? No?
But the video is fun. Like I get up at
two forty, go to the station. I mean, you guys know,
do the show kill it? Go to the gym Hockey

(01:09):
TV a good stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
So yeah, hopefully you like it.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
And it's also one of those things where I don't
know if I should do it more often or not.
It's something new, certainly, but I wanted to try and
see how things go. I have not packed for this weekend.
I'm so excited though, for this going back to Des Moines.
I haven't been back in four or five years. Probably
last time I went back with my dad. We did
a road trip, which is really fun. And you know,

(01:34):
for me, I've talked about this before in the podcast,
I get like energy off of buildings, you know what
I mean. Like buildings to me hold a lot of
I don't know if power is the word, but energy maybe.
Like I love seeing old sports arenas, I mean even
new ones as well, Like you know, seeing Madison Square

(01:55):
Garden for the first time was like whoa. Seeing Fenway
for the first time was like whoa. Like that kind
of stuff to me is like cool. And so going
back to Des Moines, you know, my first apartment was
like six hundred dollars a month. I remember the first time,
like my parents shot me off, texting my dad like man,
I feel lonely. It was just me and Chewey, you know,

(02:17):
which is crazy to think about. Yeah, kind of starting
on a whim and doing the raid, doing the show
down there. And at the time I told the girl
I was seeing like she wanted to move down with me.
I said, don't do that. I said, I'll be here
for a year tops, like a year tops, then it's
on to the next place. So I was like, focus

(02:38):
on you do what you gotta do, you know, career wise,
I'll be here at year tops. And then I told
myself at the station, I was like, I'm gonna do everything.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Our digital guy quit like the first week. So I
started learning how to do website stuff and photoshop and
then planning concerts and doing imaging and stuff. And I
basically told myself like, hey, while we're here, we're not
gonna party like we're gonna go balls to the wall
and we're gonna put everything into radio. And the idea

(03:11):
was that if I did that and radio didn't work
out down the line, I could still look back and
be like, you want to know what, at least I
did everything I could in des moin Like my one
thought was I didn't want to look back in des
Moin and be like, man, I really should have done
more x Y and Z. I was broke, dude, I
was broke. My parents come down and go to Sam's Club.

(03:34):
That'd be fantastic. But I would go to like Sam's
Club and get like chicken fried rice and make that
last a week.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Or if like they brought.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
In like ice cream sandwiches to the office, I would
eat those steelers out the freezer. I couldn't afford, Like
this is when the TV switched over, so I didn't
have TV, so I would save up to buy like
a season of mad Men on DVD and me and
truly just watched that and then or like a season
of Always Sonny and watch that. I couldn't afford Wi Fi,

(04:03):
which wasn't great, so I have to go to the
station and to like watch Netflix, to that kind of thing.
So it's gonna be emotional. It's gonna be emotionally back there,
like knowing where that room was, you know, slept on
the floor on a food time mattress for a year,
couldn't afford dog food. She we ate tuna. So I'm
excited for that, and I think just being back, it's crazy.

(04:27):
It's like I don't get often much time to sit
back and like look at things.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
You know, I'm trying you better at that.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
It's just that everything's been kind of a whirlwind since
I got here thirteen years ago. And I said this
on stage, I said this on the show.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
I mean it.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
You know, there's been a lot of bad things that
have happened the last thirteen years. You follow the show,
you follow my life, You're certainly aware of that. And
I often say that if you had told me all
the bad things that gonna happen, I probably wouldn't have come.
I believe that I would have been like, now, it's

(05:06):
not it's not worth it. However, had you told me
all the good things that were gonna happen, I wouldn't
have believed that it would happen like that, you know
what I mean? Yeah, I mean that like it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
You know.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
On my Instagram this past week I had the memory
pop up. We hit one hundred thousand dollars raised for
Fisher House two years ago. This past week, I wouldn't
have believed that was possible. I was in des Moines,
you know what I mean. Well, I left for des Moines.
There were people at the radio station in Minneapolis who
worked on the sales side, who said, I'll never forget this.

(05:41):
I was making the biggest mistake in my life. And
I was twenty one at the time. So imagine being
told you're making the biggest mistake in your life and
that you'll be back here, and like, not in a
good way. I remember somebody on the air tweeted there
like when we be back in Minnesota, bigger and better
than ever. I remember, like, you know that obviously didn't

(06:05):
feel good, right, didn't feel great, and yeah, man, it's
it's just like to put that all on words. I
still have a photo of the first autograph I signed
as interns John and DC, and I think, you know,
it's a weird I don't know, it's a weird life, certainly,
but like, you know, seeing folks on public and meeting

(06:26):
folks this past weekend and people saying how much the
show means to them, that's one of the coolest things ever.
You know, I'm not sure that I would believe that
I can make that impact. If that doesn't sound too raggadocious,
you know, I don't know if that is something that
would cross my mind. And yes, it's kind of perfect

(06:48):
timing when I booked the trip. You know, I do
think sometimes in life things happen for a bigger purpose.
When I booked the trip to go going for a
football game Minneso versus Iowa, I hadn't really thought of
the timing of it. But I do think it's a
good reset, you know what I mean, Because there is times,
and I'll be honest with you where I'm like, I

(07:09):
don't know what I'm doing here, you know what I mean,
Especially with Chewi gun.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Man.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
There's a Chewi pause, But there was moments certainly where
it's like, I don't want to be here anymore. I
don't want to do this, you know what I mean?
And I talked about that on this last album, that
there's a moment this whole year, I'm like, I what
more is there?

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Do? You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Like the show, we've been blessed with the number one ratings,
the comedy tour, the album is going number one, the
restaurant opening hockey doing as well as and even for me,
it's like seeing the success of people on the show.
To me, with my greatest achievements is like and not
even my achievement. One of the things I'm most proud
of is seeing how much Sauce has become a superstar,

(07:58):
you know what I mean. And I was thinking about
this today actually, because we were doing We're Gonna Do
and ask me anything or asked to show anything on Friday.
One of the questions I got was what's your most
favorite accomplishment? And it's not really my accomplishment, it's just that, like,
I'm so proud of her for doing what she did, you.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Know what I mean. And so Sauce and I.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
I was drawn to her eight years ago because at
the time she was a student, working two jobs and
still doing the internship, which is how I started. But
she would drive you an hour one way and go back.
And what made her stand out to me was she
pulled me aside. I was like, Hey, I'm gonna audition

(08:39):
and be on your comedy tour. I was like, excuse me,
and she just did ten minutes and I was like, yo,
Like that to me is awesome that you just did it,
you know what I mean. And then like with the
thought shower, she's like, I want to get more experience.
And I think the thing with Sauce is so many
people in her life have doubted her, and she continues

(09:00):
to surpass that, you know what I mean, And so
I always knew she'd be a rock star. I think
I made people sick of hearing about like, hey, Sauce
is a star, dude, Like she's gonna be a freaking star,
And to have her now on the show, it's very cool.
So there's moments like that, and I don't know where
I'm going with this. I was gonna talk about something

(09:21):
else completely, but yeah, I'm excited to get back.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
I think it's important to go back to the roots.
You know.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
I stayed in corporate housing when I first moved out
here chewyp the bednight one, which is great. But I
thought about going back to the hotel and staying there,
although like I don't know if that had the same
effect because I remember what room I was in, so
that wouldn't necessarily mean, you know, anything, But excited to
go back to see where it all came from.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
You know.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
In a way, it's like, I'm very grateful to John
thirteen years ago that he.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Grinded.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
You know, I don't think that he would fully get
He wouldn't believe if I I told him what we're
doing now. He won't believe it. Yeah, in his wildest dreams,
I don't think he believe it.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
And that's the cool thing too.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
I think my greatest accomplishment or my greatest like feeling
about this whole thing is like my confidence comes from
knowing that I'm not gonna be out worked, Like that's
just is what it is. But I have the confidence
that I can do nearly anything career wise because of you,
Because of you listening. I've said this before in the
podcast on the show in life. If Capitol wan Arena

(10:32):
told me, hey, we want you to play here next week,
I know I could sell it out. And it's not
like we'll announce the show, open the doors in it
stands like no, Like I know that we'll find a
great charity to be involved with. I got great friends
who will help me along the way, whether it's the website,
TV stuff whatever, and like because of that, everything's possible,

(10:55):
you know. So it's a perfect timing trip. You know this,
This job can be very I don't know, thankless is
the word. But like in in the room itself, it's
just us and I say this all the time. It's
like please say hi, you see us. But all means please,
because that's what makes the job real. Like, if we

(11:15):
didn't have the ability to take phone calls or text
messages that there was no interaction with you, but you
just got to listen to the show, it'd be the
worst job in the world.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
I mean that wholeheartedly.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
It would suck, like but knowing that the show makes
a difference is amazing. You know, I've said this before, like,
Guys changed my life, So I'm grateful. I'm excited to
go back to Des Moines. I already know too my
former boss, Greg Chance, so I owe a lot to

(11:46):
He's an Iowa guy. I'm a Minnesota guy.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I know.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Like the way our sports teams work, they're both on
hot streaks, which means the game we go to, they're
gonna play a complete ass. It's gonna be like a
three or two football game, which seems impossible. With our
our teams, nothing's impossible. So I'm sorry for this rant.
I just want you to know I appreciate you. I
can't say that enough. I think that. I hope that
sounds genuine. I hope you know it's genuine. That for

(12:13):
following me on this journey for the last thirteen years,
here and who knows what the future brings, but ma'am,
it has been a ride to say the least, so
I appreciate you have a fantastic Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
I'll see you Friday.
