Speaker 1 (00:01):
Oh, hi friend, welcome to thought shower intern. Geon is
my name on this Friday, hell of a week, long week,
busy week, gearing up for a busy weekend than a
mad sprint next week. Got hockey tonight, lovely, very exciting,
hopefully not doing anything else because like, this weekend's gonna
be a disaster in a good way. Saturday is the
(00:22):
tenth annual I J Christmas Spectacular, which is my White
Elephant party, which I started throwing solely because I didn't
want to go to other Christmas parties. As with the
next girlfriend went to a Christmas party. I'm like, this
is so stupid. I'd rather just have it at my house.
That way I don't have to leave. And that was
(00:43):
on God, the reason the whole thing started. And now
it's been great. There's been years where I've gone to
bed early and people have cleaned up the house for me.
It's fantastic. It truly is keeps getting bigger, keeps getting better.
It's also a great mix of people in my life.
Got my hockey friends, my comedian friends, work friends. Sadly
(01:05):
my DJ friends shouts DJ ries usually can't make it
because well, yeah, work, but it's a great event and
shout say yamyam Haibashi in Ashburn for doing the catering.
They are fantastic. Well, hibachi actually can't go wrong. So
there was one year where shouts my buddy Bourbon Ryan
where he put rice in the oven and I forgot
(01:27):
about it. So we do like the We did the party.
Then it was like two days later jingle Ball Day.
After flew out to might been Dominican. My ex girlfriend
got back from Dominican, turned the oven on for something.
I go, golly, what smells. Oh the rice had been
the oven for about two weeks, So there we go.
Then on Sunday got work event and then Monday hockey Tuesday,
(01:50):
jingle Ball.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Jingle Ball gonna be a long day.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
My day will start jingle Ball Tuesday, you know, but
two forty doing the show, leaving here hopefully by if
I can time it right by like ten oh one,
be down at Capitol and Arena by two thirty pm.
Show ends around eleven forty five, So it's gonna be
close to a twenty four hour day. But not that
I'm complaining. It could be a lot of fun. Then
(02:15):
take my mom Hawaii, which would be a lot of fun. Too,
So let me get to this for your Friday. The
things that every American wants to leave behind in twenty
twenty six, starting with social media trolls. I said it
used to be annoyance. By by TWI by twenty twenty
five became a full bow in public irritant, the digital
mosquitoes of modern life, the constant negativity manufactured outrage, and
(02:38):
the petty pylons that made the most harmless post feel
like potential battlegrounds.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, I think that's fair.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Again, I don't necessarily think of it as people commenting
on your stuff. I think their point is like they're
posting things just to troll people, Like I think a
lot of you know, it's funny, like the media complains
about like nobody respects journalists anymore. Why doesn't media get responsibility.
It's like y'all did this to yourself because once I
think media traded like integrity for clicks, Like they would
(03:06):
post stuff where it's like you won't believe what this celebrity,
how their husband's killed somebody, And then down the line
it's like you read the article, oh it was in
you know, call of Duty. All right, Well that's not
the same that's not the same thing. And I think
they're starting to see the repercussions of that where it's
like yet not people don't trust media because the rage
(03:29):
clicking or bake clicking, whatever it is, it got old quickly, quickly, quickly.
Political division made the list. Yeah, I think that's fair.
I've also I don't really talk politics in the show
because I feel like, if you're in this area, you
know more than I do. I've always thought with like
individual politicians, to me, the oddest thing we did was
(03:50):
make these people celebrities on either side. Like they're supposed
to be utilities, you know what I mean, They're supposed
to be working for us. They're supposed to be MacDonald
slash Burger King. If you go to McDonald's and get
food poisoning, don't keep going to McDonald's, you know what
I mean, Go to Burger King, Go ahead, Chick fil A,
go wherever else you want to go. But I do
think all this stuff online too, is just so exhausting. Again,
(04:13):
maybe just being in this area, it's like, hey, can
we just not you know, can we just do something else,
something a little more I don't know, relaxing, that kind
of like vibe. Next thing making the list was the
ghosting in general when it comes to dating. I do
think this is true, and I do think that it
(04:34):
becomes an issue if you are try and do the
right thing, and you reach out and you follow up
and then you don't get a response.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
It is a little bit like okay, what do we do? Now?
What am I supposed to do?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
I think for dudes, we'll see it as like the
girl that will ghost you and then goes for the
guy that is seemingly against everything she stands for.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Like that can be a little bit of like, okay,
so now what. And I'm not saying I'm sure it
goes both ways. I'm sure it does. However, I much
rather like go on a date with somebody just have
them like text me like, hey, like, what's funny to
know you.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I don't think it's to work out.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
If we see each other in public, let's be friendly, cool, perfect,
it's awesome. I think that's fine to me. It's like
a right, yeah, we tried, didn't work out.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Whatever. I think it's a problem too.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
We talked about in the show about the idea of
like date sacking, whereas you do. I mean this was
like not on the weekend, this is like one day,
have I two dates. I think that's the problem too
with like the dating apps. Maybe that's the bigger conversation,
like those need to be retooled, you know. I think
the fact that people feel like they have so many
options makes it hard. And we've talked about this before
(05:45):
and I read this on I can't know what the
book was, but they talked about how social media, especially
like Instagram, like when you were fresh Instagram, the reason
it's a pinwheel off the top like while it loads
is because of gambling, like when you do the slot
machines and it rolls and rolls, role you're mentally like, okay,
I'm about to get prize. And that's what social media did.
You refresh your feed you can get a prize of
(06:06):
new content that's really good. And then with dating apps,
sound's kind of the same thing. It's like, Okay, I
found this person who online at least checks every box.
They're pretty intelligent, want of the same things. I should
be happy with them, but what if I swipe again,
I find somebody who is hotter and even more for me.
(06:30):
I means it's almost like we're psyching ourselves out before
we even get a chance to give somebody an actual look.
And I think that's part of the dating burnout, that's
part of the exhaustion. Again, the dating apps one percent
caused this. Now they're suffering and they should because.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
They're being mean. They're being mean to me.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Hustle culture made the list the relentless pace of hustle
culture pushing the narrative that more is always better, leaving
people overwhelmed and burned out.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Now, to me, I have.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
A bit of a I don't know, I love or
hate it with this. For me, it's like I wouldn't
be where I am right now if I didn't put
all the work in that I do. And that started
in to Moine, where I was in de Moine sleeping
on the floor with Chewy and staid to myself, if
we're gonna be here for a year, we got to
give everything we have so if it doesn't work out,
(07:24):
we can't look back and be like, well, we should
have done more. And then I think everything I've done,
especially being in DC, has proven that hustle works. And
that's where I kind of push back into this. It's like, yeah,
so I started the podcast, this podcast because I wanted
to get experienced hosting things like hosting a show. And
then Sauce joined, and then I did the comedy stuff
(07:46):
to get better, like public speaking and to meet more people,
did TV to get my name out there more and
like all that stuff like it worked out, you know
what I mean. So I think there is this like
I don't believe the idea of a balance life. It's
just not realistic. Now, balance, I suppose can be sixty forty.
But for me personally, if I had put more focus
(08:08):
on I don't know, balancing my life, the show wouldn't
be where it is.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
I wouldn't be where it is.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
And that's just like it is what it is, dude,
Like there's no other way. I'm not the most talented person,
not even clothes, I bet you in for radio people
in the United States, I'm not in the top one thousand.
It is work harder and like there's no secret. It's
funny because people ask like, hey, what's like the formula
I've given the formula people, I'm like, here, here's what
(08:34):
I do, and like you do all this, I'm like
yeah yeah, because people would be like, well, why do
you get to the station at three thirty because I
gotta do work, you know what I mean? So do
I think there can be a balance, Yes, No, Now
on the flip side that I have done a better
job of, Like if I feel burned out, I will
take a day, you know what I mean, Or I
won't go to the gym that day, and like there's
(08:56):
ways to get around it. But I think if you
are chasing a goal for yourself, sneeze break sorry. If
your goal is to bet on yourself and kind of
make yourself the product or your own you know force,
in my mind, I don't know how else you do it.
(09:16):
Then hustling now again, if that's not your goal, and like,
there's nothing wrong with that, you want to be like
more looks more on family by all, it means that's
whatever makes you happy, you know what I'm saying. I
just think the hustle culture again, if you're doing it
for a job you hate and for it's not like
a life goal that I understand that, Like life's too short.
But if it is your dream you're chasing or trying
(09:37):
to chase, then absolutely put everything out into it. You know,
I cannot explain how not me lucky certainly blessed them
to be and spot them in So anyway, hope you
have a fantastic weekend. If you get a chance to
follow me, please do at intern Genre Radio. I will
see you on Monday and then we'll talk about the
(09:57):
Christmas schedule as well. It's the Thought Shower.
