Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Friday friend. Welcome to the thought Shower
intern John is my name? What was it? Busy week?
About to be a busy weekend as well. Actually this
week flew by Michael Jimley kind of feel like he
blinked and then here you go. Had a bunch of
hockey this week, whether it be my hockey or the
Washington Capitals. A lot of that as well, a lot

(00:22):
of late nights running on very little sleep. But we're
doing well. The vibes are up, We're doing well. It
was very exciting because yesterday couldn't find a single key
to my house. That's exciting. I have one of those
automatic openers, but like that can be spotty sometimes, and
so was the case of like with me leaving this
weekend and skittles being picked up, I assider need to

(00:46):
get a key, because it'd be nothing worse than me
landing back here on Sunday like eight pm and then
not being able to get my house. That happened once
years ago, probably ten years ago. Maybe let's come back
with the next girlfriend of my hockey game. The garagear
went up in and it was like late late it's
had to call the uh locksmith so they basically what

(01:08):
locksmith does they break in your house like they take
a drill to the lock breaking your house. I remember
walking in, my alarm goes off because obviously somebody's breaking
in the house. And then there's dog poop everywhere, so
I step on the poop spread through the house. It
was not a good vibe. All this to say, found
the spare Key very exciting. So this weekend heading down

(01:33):
to Nashville. My parents live down there, my nephew is
getting baptized, very exciting. I've of course been asked to
be the godfather because who better to be an influence
a young man's life and your boy in turn jump
So very exciting for that. Leaving after the show skills
as I camp go be down a couple of days,
kind of like our Thanksgiving too, because I'm not gonna
be able to fly back down for Thanksgiving, just because

(01:56):
it's expansive right now. I'm so kind of excited to
do that and relax a little bit sometimes to go
out women Nashville. I think this weekend's gonna be like
a staycation type vibe because your boy's tired, you know.
End of the year for us is always like it's
a lot making sure we're good for vacations and like
everything's done for commercials and stuff and jingle ball and stuff.

(02:20):
So like we're getting to the point of like the
burnout scenario, you know. So that's the goal this weekend.
Will it happen? You know? Who knows? Who knows? We'll
find out together find out my Instagram at intern John Radio.
Let me get to this via Friday. The meltdowns everyone
has right before the holidays. Hey, that's right now, starting

(02:44):
with the panic over gift bind They say, you thought
you planned everything perfectly. Suddenly it's mid December, you realize
you forgot a crucial gift. What I started to do
is buy backup gifts. I think that's the way to go,
Like have some gift cards on hand and that way,
if somebody gives you a surprise gift, or if you
get somebody, you have that I have a general idea

(03:08):
of what I want to get people like Sauce was
the first one because we have a wedding coming up
in January. So for her gift, I just got her
the flight because I want to fly with myself. I
want to have a security with me, So who better
than Shelby Sauce, like that part's done. I don't want
to say aybody else's stuff, but I think that's You know,

(03:28):
planning is easy Online certainly makes it easy as well.
The overwhelm of a pack schedule. Yeah, and so the
calendar looks insid enough, but as the day's inch closer
for the holidays, suddenly find yourself double bucked. Family gatherings,
office parties, or friendly get together as pile up, each
with his own set obligations. Yeah, that's why. And this

(03:50):
is like people think I'm kidding, but like I legitimately
did my Christmas party solely so I wouldn't have to
go to other Christmas parties. That was like the whole idea.
I was sitting with the next girlfriend. I was like, Hey,
why don't I just do the party and that way
people come to me instead me going there, And that
was legit kind of like the takeoff of it. Best

(04:13):
decisions ever made, because I couldn't imagine having to balance
that out. Heaven do anything I mentioned on the show,
like I no diff for grants I were. My mom's
family was in Minnesota growing up, my dad's family's kind
of spread over with the place so growing up, we
had one Christmas, one Thanksgiving. You know, we have to
travel across town. I'm so grateful for that. That would

(04:35):
be a nightmare. I have some nightmare people have like
four Christmases. I don't know how you do it, dude.
My schedule is going to be like, luckily i'll be
on vacation, I'll be out of the country. Now the country,
I'll be in the country. I'll be gone, so I
can't really be bothered. But it is too much, like
you have to do everything. I'm like, no, you don't relax.

(04:57):
The stress of family dynamics. They say, a family, the gathering,
it'snn be a minefield of unresolved tensions and old habits.
That is true here all the time for people they know,
like walking in like okay, if this you know, uncle
says this one thing to this cousin, that's gonna cause
nuclear war, and wouldn't you know, almost always it happens,

(05:20):
you know what I mean. Don't like that. It's awkward
and it's like, okay, this is why we see each
other twice a year. Yeah, that's kind of like the
the vibe the dread of decorating. They say, you envision
to Pinterest perfect holiday home, but the reality is a
tangled mess of lights and decorations scattered about the box
of ornaments he packed so carefully last year out it's

(05:41):
like a glitter bomb exploded. Fair. I don't like decorating.
I don't like tearing down. I still pumpkins up. Did
I put those up? No? I did not. Will I
decorate this year for the Chrismas party only because I
have to. It doesn't spark joy for me, and by
the way, if it does for you, like hey, more

(06:01):
power to you. That's not my thing. It's kind of
like a folks like the garden, like hey, god bless,
not really my thing, but that's what you like to
do to like clear your head and like be stress free.
I think that's fantastic. Me not so much. The pressure
of holiday cooking. You volunteered the host dream of a
spread worthy of a magazine cover. Reality hits hard when
the recipes don't turn out as planned. This is why

(06:24):
I have the party catered. Shouts to yemiam Hibachi in
the Ashburn area. A fantastic way to go. Yeah, I
do think, like I mean, this is a good way.
I hope the stigma of like, oh, I have to cook,
it has to be homemade. We gotta get rid of that.
As long as the food's good, that's all that matters.

(06:46):
I don't care if I go somewhere and they didn't
make the food, as long as it's good. Also for
me the guest, it's free. Can I really complain? Nah?
The effort of holl all day cards makes the list.
They say, you promise yourself this year be different. The
cards will go out on time with personal notes to
boot for. Here you are staring at a stack of

(07:08):
unsent cards in a dwindling window of time. I don't
send cards. I did it like I think once with Chewy.
It's just too much. Also, it's too much for something
that ends up in the trash, you know what I mean.
Like it's like you open it, you look at it,
and you go, all right, cool, they're still live, sick trash.

(07:30):
Throw it away. That baby kind of ugly. Sorry. The
anxiety over travel, they say, holiday travels a beasts of
its own, with crowd airports, sleigh flights, unpretictable weather. As
you pack your bags, you brace yourself with the chaos
that a company is traveling during the peak season yeah,
I think. Yeah, I haven't booked my trip back from

(07:51):
Nashville yet for Christmas. It's very exciting. That is a downside,
especially like not living near family every holiday, trying to
figure out, okay, we can go with this time, we
can go this time? Uh, trying to figure that stuff
out now. My brother also doesn't live through my parents,
I mean relatively close. I guess he's in Saint Louis.

(08:12):
But like that as a whole new dynamic of like, okay,
now where do we go? How do we do it?
It's a lot and it's experiension, the pressure to be
the perfect host. I'm gonna be honest, I don't feel
that I enjoy having people over. Obviously, it's a lot
of fun. I just kind of generally think that people

(08:34):
have a good time in general. That was a great sentence.
People have a good time, So it's all good. And
usually at my party I leave before anybody else does,
like and that's it sounds crazy, you know, but John Howe, dude,
all this go upstairs when I'm tired. Like the last
I think basically every year, I'd just gone upstairs and

(08:56):
be like, hey, thank you for coming. Just lock the
front door. And also that's been a secret power because
when I do that, people like feel guilty and they
clean up after me and after me after the party.
It's the best. Hope you have a fantastic weekend. It's
