Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Monday friend. Welcome to the Thought Shower
internshown It's my Name. Was a crazy week. Let me
recap this. So last Saturday, not this Saturday. Saturday before
flew down to Orleando with Buddy Shane and then Sauce.
Her friend Kate met up with Rose and we were

(00:22):
at Orlando Universal Studios on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, did
a tour of Epic Universe, that's the brand new world
at Universal, and it was awesome. It was a lot though.
It was a very busy trip. Did a lot, got
like twenty thousand steps a day. I'll say this, I

(00:44):
do track my steps like I try to like be
on top of that. It was easy getting steps at
the theme park and I realized if you're distracted enough,
you can rack up steps, you know, if you are
just like it's a he didn't realize how many steps
you were getting between rides and stuff. And I was like, oh,
here's a thousand, here's a thousand. So that was a

(01:06):
lot of fun, very tiring. Then on Tuesday, after the show,
flew to Nashville, see my parents. Haven't seen my parents
in I saw my dad obviously on our trip to Europe,
but saw my mom last for her birthday in February,
and then I landed in Nashville. I think it was allergies.

(01:27):
My mom says I had a cold because she claims
she got it too, But I was out cold, man,
I bet you that first day. So land on Tuesday
at I want to say like three, took a four
hour nap, went to bed again at eight, slept twelve hours,
which for me, like that never happens. I've said a

(01:47):
bazillion times, like I can rarely sleep past like six.
I was going twelve hour days of like sleeping, which
is very very rare. Then Wednesday went to some pop
up bars and my radio friends out there, which is
a lot of fun. Did Megan Maroney's bar, which love her.
Then went to Jelly Rolls Bar, did Post Malone's new bar,

(02:08):
and then basically did family stuff the rest of the time.
But man, I was just like I thought it was
allergies because I could feel at my throat and then
just always sneezing and doing all that stuff. Again, my
mom now claims she's stick too, So very very exciting.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
But it was a great trip.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
And then got back on Saturday and still kind of
like trying to get back in the on the grind,
so to speak, get back in the thick of things.
Had a lovely Fourth of July barbecue last night a
good friend Tony p which was he's a good dude,
good friend, and I rarely go out on Sundays, but
I was like, you want to know what, let's do it.

(02:47):
Did checked in brunch at the restaurant, went and saw Tony.
It was a great time. And now here we are
big week this week. College football comes out in video
game today on the Xbox and so as you can imagine,
I'm very excited to turn around the University of Minnesota
and make us a you know, perennial powerhouse in college football.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
So that's kind of a wrap. Got Skittles over the weekend.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
And the nice thing about when I get back in
vacation is Skittles was at doggy day camp and he
is also exhausted. So and then last night, for whatever reason,
I was like, all right, this be perfect. I'm kind
of tired. Certainly, I'll fall asleep right away and we'll
get a good night's sleep before you know, doing the
show for the first time in the studio in a week. Uh,
laid down around a thirty, was still awake by about

(03:35):
ten thirty. Like didn't matter where I took, didn't matter
where I did. It was one of those things where
like I think it was just like I get returned
to work anxiety where it's like, Okay, I had some
days off. There's so much stuff to do. You know,
how am I gonna do this?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
This and this?

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Where Uh, once I mine gets into like, oh I'm
not sleeping, then like that thought's over. Like once that
thought crosses my head about I'm not sleeping, that's all
I focus on. And so here we are about four
hours of sleep. We're doing it. Man, Happy, happy Monday.
Let me get to this for your Monday. The reasons
that being the odd one is actually a gift. I

(04:14):
think that was I ever the odd one growing up.
I think so. I think you look at most of
the reasons I got in trouble in middle school.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Uh, some class by that is odd grade school.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Certainly, you know, Dancy on the desk, wedding my hair
back like I was in Hollywood. Those things certainly tend
to scream odd one. But it starts with your more
crave than most living on the fringe means you see
the world differently, allowing you a tap into weelve creativity
that others may miss. This Studies of those who regularly
experience being the odd one out tend to have heightened

(04:46):
ability in diversion thinking, a key component of creativity. I
do think that's fair because to their point, yeah, you're
seeing the world differently. Different things you do seem funnier,
different things seem whatever. You make, different observations. I think
that's a good thing about comedy too. Like my comedians
do so well, is they have a different point of

(05:07):
view on something that is pretty obvious. I'm pretty mundane
as well. You know, if you have impressive observation skills,
I think that's fair. While you're we're not part of
the mainstream, you often find yourself on the outside looking in,
which can sharpen your observation skills. According to this doctor
says that those who feel like outsiders often develop an

(05:29):
acute sense of awareness about their environment and the people
in it. It's weird because I don't know if I
ever felt like an outsider per se. I think that
I can adapt to any situation I'm in, if that
makes sense, and kind of do things that way. But
I also do feel like in a lot of circles

(05:50):
I am not the norm. I think that's fair with
the radio show. I think that's fair with certainly comedy,
you know, like the I have had folks recently the
last couple of weeks ask me like, how I get
in a comedy my process. I'm like, hey, I just
kind of do it, you know, And I didn't do
like the come up in the club scene and try

(06:13):
and make things work. It's just, yeah, I understand that
for sure, you attract meaningful relationships, they say, when you're
not trying to blend in, you attract people who appreciate
and ceborate your uniqueness, and they said, leading to more authentic,
meaningful relationships. Again, I've always thought that, you look at
my My Christmas party is the most hodge podge put

(06:36):
together group of people of all time.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
But very blessed to have the friends I do. I
think that.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Certainly, being in so many different fields, I guess, like
you know, the show, podcast, comedy, hockey helps with that.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
But I am lucky I have great friends. I am.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
I also think that part of the has to deal
with I consider myself a great friend too. Certainly, I've
been very blessed to have like the friends I do have.
It's like, oh, we got some real ones.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
In the group.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
You know, you have a strong sense of self. They
say being the ay one out forces you to turn inward.
De that would be a strong sense of self and
self awareness. They say self awareness is crucial for personal
growth and understanding one's true desires and motivations.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
I have felt like the a one out.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I mean, I went to three different middle schools because
we moved in including like my eighth grade year transferred
to new school, and that was tough. Eighth grade year
was kind of tough because it's like at that point,
you know, everybody uh knows each other. Nobody from my
grade school was going to go to my high school.
So it was kind of a man out that way

(07:42):
as well. But then too, like, yeah, I went to
des Moines for about a year after doing radio in Minneapolis,
and I kind of knew that I wouldn't be in
des moin long Like that was the point of the
job where I got the job. Shout out to my
good friend Greg Chance who gave me the chance. They like,
you know, you're gonna be here for about the year
a year, and then you're onto the next spot, and

(08:03):
now that's kind of like the what that job was
is meant to give you, you know, experience that you
move on. And so I did kind of feel like
the younger people in the building didn't necessarily, I don't
wanna say they open up to me, but they kind
of went in with the thought of like, Okay, yeah,
he's not gonna be here long, so we don't need
to invest much in him personally, if that makes sense.

(08:27):
Maybe not that like I want to become close to
this person because he's gonna move in a year, that
type of vibe. So I did kind of feel a
little bit outsider rish that way as well, although I've
said this before in Des Moines, it was kind of
like we're here to learn as much as we can
in the year, and then it's on to the next thing,
you know. And luckily at the time it was me

(08:47):
and Chewy against the world, so to speak. Ull do
you one more. You're not afraid to push yourself, they say.
When you're the ald one out, you often find yourself
in situations that challenge your comfort zone lead to personal growth.
These experiences teach you to adapt, learn evolve, fostering a
open mindset. I have tried to, like the yet last

(09:09):
year or so, to put myself in more social situations.
I wouldn't necessarily going, like going to see my friend
Tony for a barbecue last night. Usually like if I
don't know somebody else in the function, I don't go.
And I didn't know who else was gonna be there. Luckily,
my mother from Bobby was there, which was very lovely
as well. But yeah, try and put myself out there

(09:30):
a little bit more, you know, be a little more
social if you will. I'm a social butterfly. I hope
you have a great Monday. If you give a chance
to follow the Instagram, I would greatly appreciate it. It helps
me out a ton helps me grow be able to
