Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the return of Zach. This is Fox Sports Weekends
at noon with your host, Zach Harris. Thank you for
tuning in. However, you may be tuning in on a
cloudy but pretty warm day in comparison to the recent week.
You know a lot of rainy days, cold, rainy days,

(00:21):
but you're not here for the weather. We're here to
talk sports. This is Fox Sports Weekends on noon with
your host, Zach Harris. And today is Sunday Fun Day,
So we're gonna dive right in there. Got a lot
of breaking news coming in coming through the way. Obviously,
the last day of the Masters tournament out there, the
PGA Masters Tournament, so we'll get you an update on that.

(00:43):
But before we get into that, I wanted to start
out with a little bit of fun. So throughout the
week I try to find different TikTok videos or sound
that may come across my desk. I guess, for the
lack of a better words, that might humor you. So
if my wife's listening out there, she probably knows exactly

(01:07):
the audio that I'm about to play. But this was
from a late night Phillies in Braves game, a division
rival between NL East opponents in a Braves announcer with
Bryce Harper on the base path. The announcer makes a

(01:31):
seemingly innocent mistake, but if you know Philly fans, this
is by far a silly mistake. Let's tune in now
about that. I'll admit Oscar the Grouch. It's not Philly,
it's not the Philly fanatic. What time is this. I'm

(01:55):
gonna go ahead and unplug my mic and head home.
At this point I saw Oscar the Grouch. That is
immediately what I saw. Honestly, at that point I would
unplug my mic too. I would put my headphones off,
unplugged the mic. I'm done now. What seemed to be
an innocent mistake, you know, mixing up the Philly Fanatic

(02:16):
with Oscar the Grouch. As you know baseball players when
they're on the base path, they changed to the oven
mit so that way their fingers aren't spreading out if
they're sliding hands first into the base path. Yes, he
is wearing Philly fanatic ovenment, not Oscar the Grouch, Billy fanatic. Now, ultimately,

(02:38):
the Braves did end up getting the last laugh, as
they won four to two and eleven innings. That was
Thursday night. I just thought that was a little funny there. Now,
let's keep into the baseball minds in the Yankees, they
got a decent outing from their starting pitcher, not name

(02:59):
Max free So Warren went five innings, gave up two
earned runs, six strikeouts as they double up the San
Francisco Giants, who are off to a hot ten and
four start, as the Yankees defeat them eight to four yesterday. Now,
there is a lot of pause for concern here because

(03:23):
if you take a look at this New York Yankees
team that has World Series aspirations. Obviously, they lost to
the Dodgers last year in the World Series. This year
they're looking to make a comeback there and hopefully win it.
Not off to the greatest start, now, I will I
will preface this. I will preface this by saying, we

(03:47):
are a total of fourteen games in on the season.
Fourteen games in on the season for the New York Yankees,
who are eight and six, hovering right round five hundred
baseball for the year. But like I said, it is
April thirteenth, they are eight and six, so let's not

(04:12):
get off our rockers right this moment. But with that
being said, obviously, losing Garrett Cole for the season, that's
their ace, and a hole put a big damper on
what looked to be a very strong starting lineup at
the beginning of the season. If you said you had
Garrett Cole, Max Fried, Carlos Rodin, and Will Warren and

(04:38):
then Carlos Carrasco mixed in there. Carlos Carrasco is a
solid pitcher, but he is a four or five end
of the rotation kind of guy where he's going to
give up roughly ERA somewhere in the high threes, low fours.
But he's a guy that can eat some innings towards

(04:59):
the end of the towards the end of the rotation there.
But without without the strength of Garrett Cole, You're looking
at this team who has World Series aspirations in their
starting rotation, although we're fourteen games in, does not appear

(05:25):
to be fit to lead this team to the World Series. Now,
I'm not really worried about Carlos Trondon. He's gonna find
his pace. Carrasco, like I said, he's not a great pitcher,
but he's an innings eeter. He's that end of rotation guy.
Not really worried there even though he's got the seven
plus RA Max Freed has been leading to charge with

(05:50):
a one point five to six ERA. And then Will
Warren last night yesterday during the day, five innings and runs,
six strikeouts to earn his first major league win. This
kid's just got to get a little bit experienced there. So,

(06:11):
like I said, right now, they're not off to a
hot start. You have all your starting pitchers, not name
Max with a plus five ERA. So it was good
to see Will Warren go out there and go five
innings and give up two earned runs and look good
against a pretty good Giants team, at least this early

(06:35):
into the season. That's a pretty good lineup that he
went up against and was able to come away with
only giving up two runs. New York Mets drop one
to the pathetic, I guess is the best way to say.
Oakland A's who are now two and six at home.

(06:59):
One of those wins obvious coming against the Mets yesterday
three to one. The thing that concerns me with the
Mets is the thing that seems to concern me every
single year, day in day out, during the regular season,
is the Mets ineptitude when it comes to their offense.

(07:19):
Last year they made that playoff run. You know why,
because guys got hot at the right time. We saw
a scorching, scorching hot Francisco Lindor towards the end of
that year that literally carried them into the playoffs and
made big time noise in big time moments in the playoffs.

(07:45):
Then you go out, you get a team friendly contract
for the Polar Bear, who's off to a great start.
By the way, if it wasn't for Polar Bear Pete,
you're looking at this team, and like I said, it's
only fourteen games in, but you're looking at a team
that's probably sub five hundred right now if it wasn't

(08:05):
for Pete Alonzo. Now, yesterday he did go zero for
four with three strikeouts, but on the season he's batting
well above three hundred round three point fifty, so it's
okay for him to have an off day. Where my
concern comes in, Like I said, fourteen games in Francisco

(08:27):
Lindor and Juan Soto, that's your one two punch. Those
are guys that are supposed to be able to get
your hits, clutch hits, and right now they're not doing
a job. Francisco Lindor's batting about two hundred, Juan Soto
about two sixty five. And when you take a look
at Juan Soto and what he brings from the outfield position,

(08:52):
he's not a strength position when it comes to defense.
So we rely on Sodo not only to get hits,
but to get on base. Now he's on base percentage
is a respectable four to ten. I expect that to
go up a little bit. This is a guy that's
very patient at the plate. I love when he does

(09:13):
the Sodo shimmy. Lets me know that he's in the mood,
he's in the groove and a big time hits coming
on and he's on to you, pitcher, you can't outthink
the Sodo shimmy. But fourteen games and we'll re event
We'll revisit this definitely, because there's one hundred and sixty

(09:35):
two games in a major league season. But batting to
sixty five for a guy that you're paying over seven
hundred million dollars to is not the start that you
were hoping for if you're a Mets fan. But hey,
the Braves Division winners not off to the greatest of starts.

(10:02):
The Mets at least they're nine and five on the year,
nine and five on the year, and this starting pitching
has been a bright spot. Now there's going to come
a time where this starting pitching, which I think solid,
I would say major league average if you compare it

(10:24):
to other starting pitching lineups right now, has been pitching
lights out, lights out. But at some point that's gonna change,
and you're going to need this offense to come alive.
You're going to need in some of your young guys.

(10:46):
Ventos Ventos was a big piece of that team last year.
You invest in your other young guys where you get
and I know how to say his last name, but
I'm gonna call Brett Battie because that Battie ain't working.
Brett Baddy ain't working. That bat ain't doing anything. He's

(11:07):
a batt in a buck twenty nine. Now, obviously you
have your catcher out, Francisco Alvarez is out. You got
the young guy, Acunya's brother. But here's the thing I
like about Acunya's brother. This guy can get on base,
he could steal bases. I'm not really worried about the

(11:31):
offensive output from Acunya because he can bring a defensive
presence where mister no mcbatty and I know that's not
how you say his last name, Baty, but mister no
mcbatty doesn't have that type of defensive range that Acunya does.

(11:56):
So while you may be worried about both of these guys,
I'm more worried about Beatty becoming a hitter because he
doesn't add those extra things that you would like to
see from a defensive possession. Well, like I said, we're
fourteen games in. Just something that I came across. Now,

(12:18):
turning to some not so great news, breaking news coming
in through the wire here. Late last night, LSU wide
receiver Kyrin Lacy found dead in Houston. A potential and
I know a lot of places out there are saying
a potential first round pick. And I'm not going to
go into the NFL side of it or anything, because

(12:40):
the story surrounding this has just been devastating. If you
don't know, Kyrian Lacy played wide receiver for LSU back
in December, had a hit and run incident where a
seventy two or seventy eight year old man passed away.
You know, he was in jail. He ended up getting

(13:02):
out on bail. Two days later, he announces for the
NFL Draft. He shows up at the Pro day in March,
and he's looking like a top ten wide receiver. And
I'm not saying top ten in the NFL Draft. I'm
saying top ten at his position. Very unfortunate, young kid,

(13:23):
loads of talent, made it not only a bad decision
that night, but felt guilty about it. Now there's still
reports coming out on what may have happened, but ultimately
an incident that occurred in December has now cost us
two lives. So thoughts are out there with both of them.

(13:46):
I only hired Lacy, but the seventy eight year old
man whose life was taken back in December. Now, if
we want, we want to get into some local stuff,
I will touch on the PGA before we move on.
But I did want to mention out there for all
you lacrosse fans, the Albany FireWolves out there. I talked

(14:10):
about yesterday how two games left in the season they're
down but not quite out. With one game left. Yesterday
at the MVP Arena, you guys really showed up and
cheered out. They scored three times in the last period

(14:34):
to defeat the Seals twelve to ten and keep their
playoff hopes alive. So there's going to be a lot
of drama going into that last week of lacrosse, especially
with the Full FireWolves looking to make the playoffs after

(14:55):
last year's semifinals. In n any NHL, we're coming towards
the close on the NHL regular season. For the first
time in NHL history, the Boston Burwins, the New York Rangers,
and the Pittsburgh Penguins will all miss the playoffs. President

(15:20):
Cup champions New York Rangers falling well short of expectations.
And let me repeat that, first time in NHL history,
the Boston Brwins, New York Rangers, and Pittsburgh Penguins will
all miss the playoffs in the same year. Now, let's

(15:41):
head over to the PGA Tour the Masters. We are
entering the last day of the Masters, which is currently
currently going on. But the two guys that you want
to look at right now, Bryson Deshambo is going to
be paired with your current leader, ry McElroy in Rory

(16:07):
who absolutely locked in yesterday. Now I'm not a huge
golf fan, but when it comes to the Masters, that
is something that you need to tune into it. Used
to be got to tune in tiger Woods. Where's yet,
where's the yacht on the leaderboard? Unfortunately things unraveled injury history.

(16:36):
He wasn't able to prolong his career at the high
level that we were used to with Tiger Woods. But
we have a lot of good players still for this Masters.
And right now you have Rory McElroy leading by two
strokes after a masterful yes pun intended, because this is Sunday,

(16:59):
fun Day, masterful, masterful round with a six under sixty
six on Saturday that ultimately moved him to twelve under
after fifty four holes in a two stroke lead over
the live captain Bryce and De'shambo. Those two will pair together.

(17:23):
They're slated to tee off in the two o'clock hour,
So that's something to watch. Now. That doesn't mean it's
only up to those two. There's a couple guys that
are a couple of strokes out. Anything can happen any
given Sunday. That's not just a football term. That's a
Master's term. Any given Sunday. Now, I will say a
lot of us are will be rooting for Rory, who

(17:46):
is attempting attempting to become the one of the only
golfers to complete the Grand Slam in the Master's era.
So the number two overall golfer needs to clinch eighteen

(18:10):
holes to clinch that elusive Green jacket to join some
of the greats like Ben Hogan and Gary Player and
Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods as some of the only
golfers to complete the career Grand Slam in the Masters era. Now,
I will say history will be on his side. You

(18:31):
take a look, and Rory has had the outright fifty
four hole lead in a major championship five times in
his career. Of those five times, only one time did
he lose, and that was twenty eleven in the Masters

(18:52):
where he ran into some quicksand and when things went wrong,
they went really wrong. Last little story I want to
touch on real quick, little baseball crossover, speaking of the Masters,
Detroit Tigers prospect Jackson Job earns his first major league

(19:13):
win on Masters Wee Weekend as fittingly as perfect as
the next Master winder winner of the Green jacket. The
twenty two year old right hander is the son of
former professional golfer Brandt Job, who played into Masters three times,
so I thought that was a neat little story. This

(19:34):
is Fox Sports Weekends at noon. I know we ran
a little long there. Did want to get into some
other news coming across the wire from Friday into Saturday,
now into today, as we learn more about it, Nico
email Eva Eve or I'm just gonna call him Nico,
I'm a Leavin the first nil holdout. We'll get into

(19:58):
what that potentially means for the Tennessee Titan or Tennessee Volunteers,
and what that means for Nico and where potentially he
could be I'm leavin two. Next, we'll discuss that coming
up in two minutes
