(00:00):
It's Lovak and Goz on the voiceof the Capitol Regions Sports fan Fox Sports
ninety five, nine and nine eighty. Come on, come on, I
(00:22):
say Minasthma stuff. It's like forFama. So there may be changes in
the studio. This is not Lavackand Goz, but it is the Lovak
and gz show. I'm Zach withan H and then to my left is
Zach with a K. You know, one of the first bones I want
to pick with you is when we'retrying to get the show together. You
(00:48):
you, being the young age youare, refuse to text me back about
anything anything now, one single thing. I'm like, that's okay, nothing,
that's okay nothing. You want tocome in nothing. Finally you get
back to me. I know you'rea busy man, but she sh I
I am the man of hats. But yes, no, I I am
(01:11):
what is maybe the worst texter inmy age bracket. I am awful.
I'm I'm a call person too,so like, if there's something pressing,
I'm going to call the person beforeI respond to a text or anything like
that. How old are you?I know sometimes I have to ask that,
but how does your girlfriend feel aboutthat? I know you got a
new girlfriend. Does she know thatyou are in a Texter? Yes,
(01:33):
and she she has thoughts about that. I've broken her in very much to
the to the idea of I'm gonnacall first, text later, and she
she just goes, it's I guessit works like we talk more. But
it's just a little weirder because Imean, you would think I just send
a quick text and then you justsend something back. But hey, oh
well, I'm gonna give you somefood for thought based on that. So
(01:57):
when you're on the phony, you'retalking to somebody, what do you say
you say at the end of theconversation by right, Yeah, when you're
texting somebody, it is just onelong, open ended conversation that literally never
ends. Well, that's kind ofmy problem is I'm either going to sit
there and I'm going to text youfor an hour and a half and we're
(02:19):
gonna go back and forth trying tosolve this one problem, or I'm gonna
call you for five minutes and we'llsolve the whole thing right then and there.
You are the opposite of my generation. In your generation, which we're
very close together, but you areany other generation my wife we order food,
refuses to call any place, tothe point where if they don't have
(02:44):
an online service to order on justgotta find a new place. You gotta
find no place. So the otherday, you know, us young people
going through tiktoks and stuff. Isaw a video that I had to send
to her, and I know you'relistening for sports, but we have to
get through this because I thought itwas Hilai. An intruder came in and
the person hates calling so much andtalking to people so much. He goes
(03:07):
to the intruder, can you callnine one one for me? And I'm
like, that's my wife. Thatis literally my wife. Now I am
very much the first selection. Allright, Zach, we got to call
place. Here's the thing. Igotta make dial up. Hello Hi,
Yes, I'd like to order. So if we need to order food,
I'm calling you to call them, and that's how we're getting our food.
(03:28):
So that's our first bone that Ihad to pick with you. Second bone
I have to pick with you iswe always complain whose name is spelled correctly.
You are zac ka r Y,I'm zac h a r Y.
Come to find out, we areboth incredibly wrong. I saw this and
(03:51):
I haven't been able to stop lookingat it. This might be the worst
spelling I've ever seen. Were ofthem wrong? I think this person couldn't
be incredibly as far wrong as youcould go. So, speaking on what
we're talking about, the NBA Draft, the number one overall pick to the
(04:12):
Atlanta Hawks, Zachary, would youlike to do the honors Zachary? On
how we should be spelling Zachary?Uh? Yes, So the way we
should be spelling it, according tomister France here is z A C C
H A R I E France.I mean that if you say it,
(04:35):
if you spell it out like wewere taught to in school, zach Carry,
that's Zachary. So that's how yourname should be spelled. I guess.
I guess that's how my name shouldbe spelled. You have the hard
so you know, I go,I go C K zach you know C
at the end, you know, instead of that with the with the h
(04:58):
in there, but the Z AC H A R. Where did the
ie come from? Where did wheredid the person go? Yeah, let's
just make two letters instead of thehy, so instead of the why they
wanted to fancy it up with theie, which still get the same.
This is why I think English isprobably one of the toughest languages. To
(05:19):
what world does this make sense? This doesn't even look like English. We
have three different Zachary's and they're allspelled different ways, Like, how does
that make sense to you? Well, I mean you have the second place
winner that won by a second.Again, English is never an easy language.
It's multiple words mean the same thing. The grammar doesn't make sense for
how it's taught versus how it soundswhen you put it with different letters.
(05:43):
You if you don't have a doctoratein English, names make no sense to
you. No sense. Now I'lltake it a step further. My mom's
name is Stephanie. Zachary's dad's nameis Stephanie, but spelled differently Steven.
It's like s T E P HA n E. Oh. Okay,
(06:09):
So I've definitely I've also seen likeI guess yeah, I've seen people do
that with the Stephen thing too, because that's my dad's name is Steve,
which also is creepy. It alsodoes Steve, but then they do S
T E P H sometime Ian andthey'll dose that Steven and like that's Stefan.
That's Stefan. That's Stefan. Stefan, You're wrong. Steve Arkle taught
(06:30):
me that, yes, there's aV or there's a p H. So
the V you get the erk,the pH you get the steph on true,
this show is off to a horribleshow. I know we have we
apologize for the back and Guy's listeners, but it will get better. It
will get better. So, speakingabout the NBA Draft, did you watch
I watched parts, I think onebig part that we'll we'll get very much
(06:54):
get into. But not a nota huge draft watcher. I do it
a little bit the NFL try andkind of do all my slight first round
predictions, but not not big onthe NBA draft per se. So I'm
gonna piggyback off of that what yousaid. I know you didn't really watch
it, but did you like whatthe NBA did this year and it became
(07:16):
a more spectacle similar to the NFLwhere you had the first round one day,
second round the next day. ObviouslyNFL has seven rounds, it's a
little different, goes three days too, But did you like them trying to
do something to garnish interest? Yes, I'm actually I'm always four things like
(07:38):
that. I like when you tryand make something that's kind of just a
procedural part of the game, youtry and make it something for people to
latch onto, make it something forthem to enjoy, you know, people
like us who occasionally will bet onthings like that, Like I think this
person's gonna go to this person,So I'm gonna fill out a bracket of
where I think people are going.I do wish that New York would legalize
(08:01):
gambling like that, Like is theFrenchman going to be the number one?
I know, yeah, I know, New York doesn't specifically do it.
It is just something though that peopledo gamble on absolutely, like what color
gatorade? Is it gonna be dumpedin the super Bowl? Those things anything
that you can possibly bet on acoin flip, yeah, you will bet
on yes, And these are theseare this is the new age of sports.
(08:22):
We're trying to make that that isa large part of the actual viewership
engagement, and that's kind of whattheir big push has been. So I
think that making the drafts more oflike a launch party and like this whole
like gathering to be like come out, support your team while your team gets
new additions. Is it's a coolway to go about it. I like
(08:43):
it, and I like it alot because you have the NHL just ending.
Yep, you have to dum wNBA, which is upper in viewership,
but let's be honest, not alot of people are still watching it.
Still growing a little bit, wecan get more into it. But
I also think that there's some controversythat recently has been happening which has been
taking away from a lot of theWNBA newer attractions. Yep. And then
(09:07):
you have the MLB, And Iknow you're a big baseball fan. I
like baseball too, but one hundredand sixty two games. I'm not gonna
sit there and watch one hundred andsixty two games. Oh yeah, viewership's
down. So I think the NBAdraft spanning over two days, putting it
on these big channels at a primetimegame, now, the only thing I
would argue is why do it ona Wednesday night? Isn't Thursday at prime
(09:28):
night? Yeah? You would thinkso. I thought Wednesday was an odd
one too. Thursday night, Iguess I can understand, mainly just because
the presidential debate happened Thursday. Maybethat's why for this particular year they did
it that way. I'm not intoold men speaking if their name's not Adam
Silver, but Bi Horry both ofthem were struggling to do that too.
(09:50):
So next thing I wanted to talkabout is this seventeen seventy eight, because
the Frenchmen are our allies all overagain, but this time in the NBA.
Yeah, there were three Frenchmen pickedin the top ten of the draft.
I I honestly, I don't thinkI've seen this many international players picked
(10:11):
in my recent memory of the NBAdraft, And I think that it's such
a cool trend because I feel likefor years people always were very much putting
down the European leagues and very muchbeing like, well, if you can't
cut it in the NBA, goplay in the European leagues. And this
kind of is a reversal of that, where it's no, you, you
guys go to the NBA because you'rebetter, yep. And I think that
(10:39):
is a very cool kind of likedual process where it's kind of like gives
you a place to go, almostan alternative where it's like, you know,
you can still come to the NBAgo if you're in Europe, that
doesn't mean your NBA chances are gone. Yep, you can come right over.
I mean, look at baseball baseball. A lot of the players that
you see in those drafts come fromLatin America, South America. And it's
(11:01):
very much a way that the gamehas grown where it's become an international game.
And you have seen the way thatthat growth has occurred internationally. Absolutely,
And the one thing that I takeaway is international play has gotten better,
Scouting has gotten better. Social mediaplays a big part into it,
not just like Facebook and Twitter andall that other stuff. I'm talking in
(11:24):
general, where you can recruit aplayer without having to travel to France and
all these other places. You caneasily recruit because of the technology now.
So I think that makes it easierto scout these guys. And then you
take a look in the NBA,Luca Giannis, Joel Embiid. These guys
(11:45):
are all guys that came from adifferent country, whether they got drafted from
the different country or they came overhere, played in college and then went
in whatever it may be, isyou are starting to see more of a
dominance of international players in the NBAabsolutely, And those three guys who just
named are all top guys in theNBA, top guys. So that leads
(12:07):
me to my next discussion that Iwant to get onto. Are you looking
to have a son anytime soon? No, I'd like to give myself a
little bit of time. Well,if you are, let me put a
name in perspective for you. Ifyou're looking to have your son play in
the NBA, Nicolia has to behigh on your list. Okay, okay
(12:31):
names. There were two Nikolia's draftedto add on to Nikola Jokij, Nikola
Vuviachij, and I'm going to misssome other names. The guy for the
Heat can't think of his name offthe top of my head. But there
are multiple Nikolia's in the NBA now. So if you play out the odds
(12:56):
now, I don't know against versusa Josh or Michael or something, but
I gotta think Nicola's got to behigher up on your list of baby names
that you might watch. I mean, yeah, that's definitely a way to
go. Try and try and matchthe crowd and come in because hey,
probability wise, have you got thename, We've got more advantage for you.
(13:16):
But I don't want to get outreally into it now because I know
we're going to talk about it abit later. But that's not the only
way to get in by your name. All it takes is to know somebody
that is a good tease. Andyou know what, we'll get into that
next. We're gonna have Trevor Laneof Laker's niche and come on and talk
about what it's like to just geta job handed to you, because honestly,
(13:41):
that sounds kind of cushy and goodfor me. Yeah, we'll talk
about it next.
