Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gelwicks, that get
Away Guru, and I am so excited to spend every
weekend with you right here as we eat, dreams, sleep,
Travel got a great show lined up for you today.
We're gonna be go headed to Africa and the Great Migration.
The business development manager for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines will

(00:25):
be joining us and a very special live report from Jerusalem.
Our friend Dan Hone is there with a tour group
right now and he'll be calling in live from Jerusalem
here in the first hour and give us an update
of what's going on there. What are the worst airports

(00:46):
for flight delays and cancellations, and what are the worst
airports if you have an extended layover. Mark Folbo will
be taking us to Ireland and I will be introducing
a brand new cruise tour along the Maykong River with
Cambodia anchor Watt and Vietnam. Really is a fun, fun

(01:08):
show for you today. You know I've been to one
hundred and fifteen countries and many of the most of
them many many times over. There is one tour, one
destination that absolutely captures my heart. Now you're thinking Thailand. Well,

(01:28):
of course that does. And I was just telling Kathy
this morning, my beautiful wife, that I can't wait to
get back to Thailand and I'll be visiting there once
or twice later this year. But an African safari is
so different. Now. You know what's really interesting is when

(01:49):
I ask people about their experience with a Morris Columbus
Africa and the Great Migration, the most frequent response is
life changing. And yet I think that is the most overused,
overwork term that you could possibly talk about. It's life changing,

(02:11):
but people say, no, it really really is. Kathy's been
with me several times on the safari, and by the way,
I invited Kathy to join us here on the radio.
Maybe I'll bring her in next Saturday. She had an
event with our grandchildren that she we have some grandchildren

(02:32):
in taekwondo and that a belt test today right now
as we're speaking. So she's being the good grandma. I
guess I'm being the negligent grandpa, although I was at
a belt testing for another grandsonate taekwondo yesterday, and so
she's being grandma. But Kathy was hesitant to go. She

(02:53):
thought it was all going to be Chuckorama for the lions,
and that's not a sure they need to eat, but
it's very, very different than that. And I wanted her
to come on and give a woman's perspective. I'll tell
you about I'll invite her to come next Saturday and
talk about a woman's perspective of Africa and the Great Migration. Now,

(03:14):
I've been on safaris all over north to southeast to
west in Africa. I have a great love for Africa.
It's called the Dark Continent. That has nothing to do
with ethnicity or the color of skin. It's because there's
a mysteriousness there. There's just a strange, mystic element to

(03:38):
Africa that is so exciting. Morris Columbus Travel does that
African safari a bit different? Now? As I said, there's
great migrations are there? Excuse me, great safaris everywhere, But
there is nothing, flat out nothing to the so called

(03:58):
Great Migration. It's the largest land migration of animals on
the planet and it only takes place in the months
of July, August and September in Kenya and Tanzania. And
for a long list of reasons, Kenya is by far
the better choice. Now there are things to see in
Kenya and tens in the end. Elsewhere in Africa year round,

(04:23):
you can go any month and have a special experience.
But for most people an African safari is a once
in a lifetime event. No, it's not the two ninety
nine kmart blue Light special. It's a little price heer,
and you know you want to not only shop price,
but you want to shop value. Now, in Kenya there

(04:46):
are fifty game parks, five zero we'll call it Kenya
five zero. But of them, there are four that are
the most important, the biggest ones in no particular order.
Samburu Old Pageta, the Serengetti, also known as the Mara,

(05:09):
and Ambasili. Ambassili is on the east coast near Mount Kilimanjaro.
The other three I mentioned Samburu, O Pageta, the Serengetti
or Mara. They're more on the western near Mount Kenya
and Mount Kenya. This is crazy. Here you are on

(05:29):
the equator and by the way, it's not blistering hot.
The average temperature is seventy to seventy five. Why because
of the elevation. Nairobi itself is fifty seven hundred feet,
but it's snow cap. So there you are in Africa
on the equator. In fact, we will visit the actual
Equatorian line. You can put one foot in the northern hemisphere,

(05:52):
one foot in the southern hemisphere, and there's snow on
the equator. It's just really really crazy. Now, I mentioned
in the Serengeti or the Mara. The Serengeti, which is
both Kenya and Tanzania, is the most well known name,
but the Mara is what the locals call it. And

(06:13):
you've heard of the Masai Mara. Well, the Masai are
a tribe of people. You've seen them when they dance,
they're jumping up and down and they typically wear red.
It's almost reminds you of the Scottish Tartans because they
have their own patterns. But so if you remember that

(06:33):
the Masai is a tribe, well, what does marra mean?
Mara means spotted plane or that's the Serengeti. As we
fly from Old Pajeta and we're one of the few
tour companies that fly. We have this bush plane that
seats about thirty people. Our groups cap out. We don't

(06:54):
go above twenty eight people. We want a safari, not
a convention. You'll see clumps of vegetation and trees. There's
some here, there's some there that and they call it
the mara because that is the spotted plane. You know,
I've had so many great I go every year. I've
had so many great experiences on an African safari. On

(07:20):
the last one, you know, the males will challenge. As
these young bucks grow up, they will challenge a pride
that's headed by one or more males. If it's more
than one, they're usually brothers and they've grown up together,
but they'll not tolerate an outsider on their harem. You know,

(07:42):
the typical pride is about fifteen members. Now I've seen
some that are close to thirty. But the typical pride
is about fifteen members headed by a male. And then
you know the lion society's matriarchal and female lions live
together in pride for life. Well, on this one, three brothers,

(08:05):
these young strong male lions came to a pride. We
watched this, and they they're gonna chase the resident male,
the resident alpha male off if he if he even blinks,
there'll be a fight. Now this the male lion, the

(08:28):
resident alpha male, knew that he cannot fight three young,
strong lions, and so he is staying about a quarter
of a mile to a half a mile away from them,
and they're chasing him, and you know, and I say chase.
They're not at a full gallop, but they're moving and

(08:50):
he what he is doing is he's leaving them away
from the females and the cubs. Now, the cubs will
all be killed because they want to put the females
into heat and have their own offspring. So when a
new male comes in, he'll kill all the cubs. And
what was interesting is the females knew exactly what to do.

(09:12):
They left that area and they would And so the
male is leading the three long distance. They're not going
to take on the females and the cubs in the
pride until they kill the alpha male. He leads them
away and then ditches them and they rendezvous. He knows
where they're going. It's just absolutely amazing society. Well, you know,

(09:36):
we have we like to go. July August September Morris
Columbus travel still has a few spaces on the Great
Migration Safari, leaving the US July thirtieth and returning home
August fourth. We got space for four couples, four hotel

(09:57):
rooms or lodges. We can take singles also, I want
you to go to Morriscolumbus dot com Morriscolumbus dot com
and scroll down on the homepage click on Morris Murdoch
escorted tourist company named Morris Columbus. The brand name for
our escorted tours is Morris Murdock. Click on that, click

(10:17):
on Africa. Look at the details of July thirtieth to
August tenth. Love to have you join us. I'll talk
some more about Africa as we go through. Now when
we come back, Jinny two Jay, the Strategic accounts manager
for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, will be joining us with

(10:39):
some new promotions as you sail the seventh Seeds with
Royal Caribbean. Right here on the Traffic Show. You're listening
to the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gelwiz to get Away Guru,
and we are going to sail thes with Royal Caribbean

(11:02):
Cruise Line. One of my absolutely favorite cruise companies. Joining
me today on the Travel Show is Jenny Too Jay,
strategic account manager for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Jenny, I
should say welcome back to the Travel Show because you've
been a guest before. Great to have you here.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Jenny, thank you, Good morning.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Now Marian King.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, now listen, Jenny. You know Royal Caribbean and I
met what I said. I love Royal Caribbean cruise Line.
We've got some exciting programs that I'll be hosting for
Travel Show listeners with Royal Caribbean. I know that you
sail the seven Seas around the world, but what I'd
like to do today is kind of focus on your

(11:50):
West Coast sailings in twenty twenty five, and I understand
you'll be returning to San Diego next year with and
also you're going to be adding Lapause, which is in
the Gulf. Is it still the Gulf of California or
is it the sub Gulf of America. I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Anyway, sure, but I do know that Lapause is the
capital of Baja Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
I've been to La Paz and there's some exciting things.
So let's first focus on the port of Los Angeles,
which is really San Pedro. And you've got two ships
sailing out of La San Pedro. Tell us what you're.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Doing all right. Well, we've had the Navigator of the
Seas sailing three four seven night itineries for the last
couple of years. But we're excited to bring a new class.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
The Ovation of the Seas and.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Quantum of the Seas to Los Angeles in twenty twenty five.
When I say new class, it's a new type of ships,
bigger ships. Amazing. I mean, we love the Navigator, but
we're excited to have these new ships sailing out of
Los Angeles starting in June, the first week of June.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Now, when you say Ovation and Quantum, they're not gonna
both be there at the same time, are they.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Nope, you're absolutely right. The Ovation of the Seas starts
June first through the end of September, offering three four,
five and six night itineraries, and then when she departs
at the end of September, the Quantum of the Seas arrives.
She's coming up from Alaska, so she'll be there through
April of twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
And you've got three four, five and seven night sailings six.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Well, we do have seven nights on Navigator, but on
the Ovation of the Seas and Quantum, we have three, four, five,
and six there you go, and with many many of
them have overnights in Cabo, Larry, and that's great, ye great.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
You know down in Cabo, I have a favorite taco shop.
I see. Oh what is it? Asi carne. It was
featured on the Food Network and it is over the top.
Oh no, it's Assi Asado. Fantastic. Now, I will tell
you the Ovation and Quantum, which are really like sister ships,

(14:19):
very very similar. I would say to our listeners though,
I mean, there's so many whistles and bells, but do
not be afraid of booking the Navigator. I gotta tell you, Jenny,
I love the Navigator. I've sailed on it three or
four times. I actually have a group next year over

(14:40):
spring break. Now most of the Utah school district spring
Break twenty twenty six is Monday through Friday, April sixth
to the tenth. Not all the school districts, but most
of them. And so I booked what I call the
spring Break Escape Cruise on the Navigator, which you know,

(15:01):
the lime and coconut and everything about it is so fantastic.
But it's a spring break Now. It's a five day,
four night cruise out of la and joining a stop
in Mexico, Catalina days a day at sea. And I'm
going to tell you something, Jenny, and I don't want

(15:21):
you to pass this on to headquarters. Okay, maybe maybe
they made a mistake, but I don't know. Catch this
for a family of four, two adults, two kids, an
interior cabin. It's three hundred and fifty six dollars including

(15:44):
all taxes and fees for a five day cruise. Now
tell me that's not fantastic, Jenny.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
That's incredible. You can't even stay home for that. Now
that's a per person fee.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
That's a per person fee with all your meals, entertainment,
everything included.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Oh my gosh, that's an incredible prize, especially during spring break.
And to take the kiddos of all the all the
fun activities are included on the cruise. So the kids
and adults will have a great, great time.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Oh they really will. Now here's something that's also interested.
Suppose just two adults want to go on this particular one.
The this is just for two. The interior is at
four point thirty two for a five day cruise, is incredible.
But the ocean view where you have a window is

(16:38):
four eleven. It's twenty bucks less. So, like I said,
don't tell headquarters what's going on with.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Your secret is safe.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
That's right, that's right. Hey, talk to me about.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
The take your family.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
I am we gave this to them for Christmas. As
we're taking all the kids and grandkids. And we're speaking
with Jenny to Jay, strategic account manager with Royal Caribbean.
Jenny may have about two minutes left. I do want
you to talk about Odyssey of the Seas.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Oh, you have a group on the Odyssey and you
have an incredible lead in price that is I want
to say, it's over one thousand dollars per person, lower
than what you can get right now if you call
Royal Caribbeans.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
So this is one of.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Your hosted groups that I believe it's April twenty fourth,
twenty twenty six. It's Europe, many of the Greek isles, right,
the Greeks, it really is.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
It's a Mediterranean.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Go ahead, Mediterranate is a beautiful itinerary. Your balcony price
was twelve wait what was it twenty two oh five
per person, which if you call Royal Caribbean today you
would be paying thirty five seventy five, which is incredible, Jenny.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
So if you and Jenny, what did I tell you? Lower?
What did I tell you Jenny? Do not call headquarters. Hey, listen,
we've got to wrap this up. When we come back,
I want to tell you about an exclusive Morris Columbus
Travel Royal Caribbean promotion booked by March thirty. First get

(18:18):
up to one hundred dollars on board. Jenny, thank you
for joining us on the Travel Show.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Thank you, Thank you, Larry.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Fay, Bye bye more. When we come back live from Jerusalem,
Shalom and welcome back to the Travel Show. I say
shalom because we're going live to Jerusalem and our good friend,

(18:46):
tour guide and mentor of all things in the Holy Land,
Dan Home, Dan, Welcome to the Travel Show.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Thank you, Verry Boker, tob Or Sabakhaal care for you.
It's morning time for you.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
It's nice for me.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Yeah, well, all the same to you. Dan, of course,
was one of the founding members of the BYU Jerusalem Center,
thirty two years with the BYU Department of Ancient Scripture
and Travel Study. What is I think sixteen languages published author?
I could go on and on. Dan is far too
humble to tell you his background. Humility a character trait.

(19:26):
I've never been excused of Dan, but listen, Dan is
live here on the travel show Coming to Us from Jerusalem.
Brigamy On University has announced that the Jerusalem Center for
Nears Near Eastern Studies will resume student programs starting next month.

(19:47):
April twenty ninth. The center's student programs were suspended. You
remember in the fall of twenty twenty three, with the
unrest and uncertainty of the Middle East. Jim Curl, the
assistant to the university president for the Jerusalem Center, said
this quote, Jerusalem has been quiet for several months now,
and there are strong signs of improved security throughout the

(20:10):
Holy Land, as ceasefire agreements in Gaza and Lebanon appear
on the horizon. Close quote. Now, Dan, give us you're
right there. In fact, you're with a tour group right now.
Give us an update on what's going on in Israel.

(20:31):
Of course, nobody goes to Gaza, and before October seventh,
a massacre, Nobody went to Gaza. Give us an update
of the safety and the openness of the country and
how visitors are being welcomed.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
Well, you know it's over fifty two years of traveling
back and forth being here through various crises here. As
we're here right now, we haven't really seen anything going
on except that it's really exciting being a country. There
isn't very many tourists here right now. Europeans, Asians, Indonesians

(21:07):
even and Nigerians and others. Not many Americans, and that's
kind of sad for the Americans. But we're loving every
experience we have here with traveling throughout the country, with
meeting people. We've even been into the areas of Shiloh,
which is up by the West Bank areas. We never
come close to Gaza, as you know, on any of

(21:29):
these trips, and that's because it hasn't been an area.
But you know, as small as the country is, we
could be halfway around the world away from the conflict.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Yeah, you know, that's just the way it is. When
we see images on television, it's all in the Gaza
or maybe up in Lebanon something with the houtis. But
talk to me about the tour group that you have

(22:02):
now and the safety that you have felt.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Well and their witness of this. Again, we haven't seen
much of anything. Nothing. We've been really concerned about everywhere
they've been. We've been up to the Lebanese border with
El Dan. Like you and I would do our tours
and things. It wasn't any different except we were the
only ones there to do the whole thing. And that

(22:28):
was true of many other places. We have not found
anything that I'd be concerned about, even though we read
things in the newspaper. The places we go, the things
we do isn't centered in those places. And the Palestinians
as well as the Israelis are very welcoming. They're glad
to see people here, and they treat us like royalty.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
You know. One of the things that I've said is
you got to feel comfortable wherever you're going in the world.
If you're going to go and just be a worry war,
think of going somewhere else. And you know, fair enough,
I would not agree with that. Yeah, I would not
hesitate to go to Israel today. I really wouldn't. Now
I'm not going to go to Gaza, I'm not going

(23:12):
to go up to Beirut, which we never go anyway.
But I think you have to measure that. So here
is what I look at. Among other things, there's two
primary factors of whether I would feel good about my
own family going to Israel. One is, do you know

(23:33):
a more conservative, cautious group when it comes to students
and travel. Then Brigham Young University and the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day says, is there anyone who's
more cautious?

Speaker 4 (23:48):
Oh, absolutely not. They're In fact, they're a good one
to look to if they're bringing programs over here. Certainly
people out of feel safe because they go the extra
mile and make sure that the students have good security.
You know, I was in that position for a long
time that wrote the letters when we had to cancel
the program, and we go through every every possible scenario

(24:13):
and we will not take a chance with the students.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Well see, that's a good sign to me, Dan that
if BYU is going to put the students, they're the
most cautious group that I can imagine. I'm feeling pretty
good about. The other indicator that I look at as
the State Department. You know, they have a rating system
of one to four. Four is don't do it. Are
you out of your ever loving mind to go to

(24:40):
this country like you know, like Iraq or something, you know,
a Somalia yeah, Iran. Yeah, so the State Department, if
they give it a level four, do not go, well,
then I won't go. But it's not level four. The

(25:01):
State Department is not telling people Americans not to go. Hey,
we've got just a couple of minutes left, and I
want you to introduce us to your October Holy Land
tour that you'll be a personal host and tour guide on.
And I'm telling people, listen, things are developing BYU is

(25:23):
sending students back. Dan's right there now giving us a report.
Why don't we look at going this fall. It also
gives us some time and if things were to get unsafe,
of course Morris Columbus travel reconsiders even sending the tour.
Introduce us to your October tour.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
Well, of course we have a pre tour to Jordan,
which I really strongly recommend. This group went to Jordan too,
the one in the Fall, the one day longer than
what they did here, and we stayed at Wadi Ram
where we could drive the camels. We did, Petra, we did,
We went pretty much everywhere. The One in the Fall
got one extra place, but you always love to do.

(26:06):
And then when we go to the Holy Land, all
of the major sides you could ever want, plus a
few extra. We've added an extra day, and I have
some place that few go to, but are fantastic doing
it with this group, and we've not had a better time.
And you know what, if you go this fall and
talking with many of the agencies and things here, most

(26:29):
people are thinking of twenty twenty six. That means that
when you go to places, you're not going to stand
in lines. We went to get Sementy today and it
was just beautiful to be there and have it quiet.
The groups can move much faster that we have ramaedon
going on, which gives us the problem with the traffic,

(26:49):
you know, in the evening time and in the old city,
But otherwise it is just a fantastic time to go.
October is a beautiful.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Time, it really is. Of course, ramed is not an
issue for the October tour. If you do Israel, if
you do Israel only, you're going to leave October the
eighteenth from the US and return home on October three,
just in time to put on your getaway Guru costume

(27:18):
for Halloween, which will be in a Loja shirt you
know that, and a goofy look on your face and
maybe food chocolate around your lips. That would be me.
Of course, if you do the pre Israel Jordan, and
you said, then when you do the Holy Land for
the first time in my life, I'm going to correct you, Dan,

(27:40):
because it's really after Jordan. It's I guess you can
call it the Holy Land, but it's Israel, because you know,
half of the Bible, half of the New Testament, took
place in Jordan and those surrounding areas. We sometimes think
it's only Israel, don't we, But it's much more.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
Yeah, you realize Mount Nebo, Joshua, Moses, you realize the
Savior was baptized on that side of the Jordan. Elijah
sends to Heaven, David finds refuge there, and I could
go on and on with Lot and his daughters, and
Moab and Edam, all these places would read about so

(28:21):
much in the scriptures, and they come alive. Elisha comes
from Elijah comes from there, from the tribe of Gad,
and where he hides out is there along the Brook Terrace,
which I always go to. Not many tour groups too,
So it's just you know, it's as much a part
of the scriptures as the other side. And by the way,
the Savi you're taught or Jesus taught in every one

(28:44):
of the cities of the decapitalists, according to the New Testament,
and that's where more than half of the city's decapitalists are.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
Well, Dad, hone live from Jerusalem. Will let you get
back to your favorite dinner. You know, I have a
schwarmer or a falafel. I'll tell you what I missed
the most. Dan and I do tourists together. And one
of the foods that you know I love. And I

(29:13):
have to say this word carefully, a kite. Now that
that is close to a Jewish slur. But tell us
what a kite is.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
Well, it's it's actually like an oversize bagel as far
as size. It hassessed me on it. And well you
get it hot.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Oh my god, there is nothing better in the world.
But you got to get it hot warm. We go
right to that, remember that bakery that we always go
to in the old city, and we get them hot.
We bring them out for it. Remember the yeah, until
our local friends said no, give them an extra one

(29:54):
because they had the local price and the tourist price.
But we'll take care of that. Okay, this is the
whole Holyland tour with Dan Hone October eighteenth to the thirtieth.
Go to Morriscolumbus dot com. Morriscolumbus dot com. Scrolled out
on the homepage, click on Morris Murdoch Escorted Tours and
click on holy Land. We have some other good holy

(30:16):
Land tours in the fall. I love going with Dan Hone. Dan,
give Shirley, your beautiful wife a hug from me, and
in fact give her a hug and say that's from Larry.
Will you do that? Okay, I'll do that. Okay, anyway,
all the best to you. Be anxious to see you
when you get home. And love your report from Jerusalem, Dan,

(30:40):
Toda Toda. That's thank you Dan. Go ahead. Ope we
lost him there anyway, Dan hone, wasn't that a great
live report from Jerusalem? And do look at all of
the Morris Columbus Holyland tours. I think we have three
in the fall, two in October, one in November, and

(31:04):
Dan's is October eighteenth to the thirtieth. And the really
Dan is just a great guy, as are all our guides.
When we come back, we're going to talk about the
happiest country in the world and the worst airports here
on the Travel Show. Welcome back to the Travel Show.

(31:32):
Wasn't that a fantastic conversation I had with Dan Hohne
live from Jerusalem giving us an update there. And as
I said, do look at all three of the Morris
Columbus Holy Land tours next fall. We have two in
October and one in November. Dans leaves the US October eighteenth,

(31:55):
unless you want to join him early in Jordan, which
I highly recommend those of us who have a little
bit of gray hair. A little older folks, we remember
when going to the airport was an exciting experienced air
travel was exciting. And you know, I remember when I

(32:15):
was a kid. I'm seventy four years old. I'm a
young man trapped in an old man's body. Turn seventy
five in July, and I am go, go go. I
remember traveling with my grandparents, you know, in the like
nineteen sixty one. They took us on a trip to
the East Coast, my older brother Can and I and

(32:38):
where you know, the men would wear a coat and tie,
women dressed up to go on an airplane. And now
it kind of looks like friends of Walmart or something.
You know, shoppers there, which is very funny YouTube video.
No disrespect to Walmart because I shopped there. But you know,

(32:59):
the airport experience now is a pain in the backside.
It's it's just I don't like it. I like going places.
People ask me all the time, you know, do you
get tired of traveling? And my response is I never
get tired of going to exciting fun places. I mean,
Kathy and I just got back from Maui a week

(33:22):
ago yesterday, and in about a week or so, I'll
be flying to Taiwan for just five days. I've got
some business meetings there. And but the what I get tired.
I get tired of sitting on the airplanes. I have
no fear of flying. It's just boring. Even with the
movie The Movie's Help, it is kind of boring. But

(33:43):
I love going place as well. Is there anything worse
than getting your flight seriously delayed or canceled? It's like, uh, well,
here are the ten worst airports in the United States
based upon flight disruptions. Which is delayed or canceled by

(34:05):
the way on time for an airline means that they
arrive within fifteen minutes of their scheduled arrival time. And
interestingly enough, they don't count mechanical delays. I would count
mechanical delays. But let's start. This is from the top ten.

(34:28):
I'll start at number ten Seattle twenty four percent, one
out of four flights are disrupted. Number nine Charlotte twenty
six percent of flights are disrupted. Number eight Chicago O'Hare
again twenty six percent. I thought it would be more

(34:50):
at O'Hare Denver DA Denver International twenty six percent disrupted.
Number six New York LaGuardia twenty seven percent of flights disrupted.
Number five Newark twenty seven percent of flights disrupted. Here's

(35:11):
one that doesn't surprise me at all. I just I
thought it would be more flights. JFK Airport in New
York twenty seven percent of flights disrupted. That's canceled or
seriously delayed. Number three Detroit twenty eight percent. Number two

(35:33):
the Boston Logan International Airport thirty two percent of flights disrupted. Guys,
that's one in three. I try to avoid JFK. I
try to avoid Boston if at all possible. But number one,
I hope you're sitting down I hope you got a
seat belt on, because the number one airport in the

(35:57):
United States for flight disruptions delayed canceled forty percent of
the flights. I mean that's almost half. Almost half of
flights are disrupted forty percent at the Reagan National Airport
in Washington, DC. Can you imagine. I mean it's very convenient.

(36:21):
I actually like the Reagan Airport because right there at
the airport is the Metro and what we do, you
can get a much better hotel rode rate at the airport.
Hotels at Reagan National Airport they got fantastic race, particularly
on the weekends because so many people stay there for business.

(36:42):
You go downtown and you're out of your mind. If
you rent a car at Washington, DC, you can't have
parking car break ins or somewhat common. So what we
do is we stay at a Reagan National Airport hotel,
tell get a good rate. There's NonStop flights out of

(37:03):
Salt Lake to Reagan National, and then we just use
the Metro or Uber to go in all over the
city and it really really works. So yeah, you want
to avoid that if you can. Hey, listen, stay tuned
for our number two of the Travel Show. I'm going
to invite any of our listeners to give us a call,

(37:26):
not only with your questions your comments. I would love
to have anyone who's traveled with me to Africa, well
not just me, but with Morris Columbus travel on an
African safari. Would you do me a favor and call
in and share with our listeners your experience in Africa
on the Great Migration Safari called Triple eight five seven

(37:50):
oh eighth one oh Triple eight five seven oh eighth
one oh one more time Triple eight five seven oh
eight oh one Oh. Talk you right after the break
a hour number two of the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gelwicks,
the Getaway Guru, and may I just thank you for

(38:14):
joining us every weekend on this station at this time
for the Travel Show. You know, we're syndicated on nineteen
stations now, most of them here in the Inner Mountain West,
but also Texas and Florida, and we welcome all of
you to the show every weekend. You know, I just
get giddy looking forward to Saturdays and coming here. The

(38:36):
show originates the station kN RS in Salt Lake City,
the Crossroads of the West. I want to renew my
invitation to anyone who has been on a Great Migration
safari with me or with Morris Columbus travel to call
and just very briefly give us your reaction, your experience.

(38:59):
Triple eight five seven oh eighth one. Oh that's eight
eight eight five seventy eighty ten. You know, we talk
a lot about Hawaii and Mexico, just some really great deals.
I've told you about secret airfares. That's my term. I
say secret because when you call the airline, they know

(39:21):
nothing about them. But airlines do give a handful of
tour companies deeply discounted rates that we can't sell air only,
but we have to package it with some something or someone. Hey,

(39:41):
we've got a listener calling in and welcome to the
Travel Show. Who am I speaking with?

Speaker 5 (39:54):
Hello?

Speaker 1 (39:54):
Hello, Yes, you're here on the Travel Show with Larry.
Who am I speaking with? First name?

Speaker 4 (40:01):
Hie?

Speaker 3 (40:02):
This is Becky. Excuse me. I just wanted to call in.
We went on safari with Gee. I think it's.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Jim Jim and what was your experience on the Great Migration.
I will add Jim Gee is on all of our tours.
He is the ultimate. He is the ultimate African game tracker. Anyway,
what was your experience with us on a great migration safari?

Speaker 3 (40:34):
It was absolutely wonderful. All the places we stayed were
clean and very well managed, good food, that's you know.
And then the way the organization of get up before sunrise,
go for a couple of hours, and then come back,

(40:56):
have breakfast, go again in the after afternoon and at
night before sunset. It was beautiful. And our guides only
four of us to a vehicle and with our driver,
and the drivers are all in contact with each other,

(41:17):
and when they somebody spotted an animal somewhere, then we'd
all know and we could all go. And we saw
every animal we wanted to, every the big five I
think you call it. And I must say I never
and I never really cared if I went on a
you know, photography safari. I didn't really, but we did it,

(41:38):
and it was one of the best trips we've ever done,
and we were well taken care of and is wonderful
and it's a great trip, great great trip, it really is.

Speaker 1 (41:49):
You know that I mentioned in the first hour that
the most frequent comment I get from people is life changing.
Is that a fair statement?

Speaker 3 (42:01):
I think so?

Speaker 1 (42:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (42:02):
Really, and so now we've been to Kenya and then
I see other things. I want to go again.

Speaker 4 (42:10):
I mean, you know we have it.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
Yeah, we have people that do it. We have people
that do it a second and third time. And you
talked about the lodges. The lodges are in a perfect location,
you know, like you go up to the Mar or
the SERENGETI we stay at the Ashviell Lodge. It's right
on the bend of the Mar River. Now there's wonderful lodges.

(42:36):
They're up on the Serengetti, but they're outside the boundaries
of the park and you drive in every day. Well
they'll they will get there, you know, mid morning because
they have breakfast at the lodge. It's an hour to
an hour and a half at these other lodges each way.
So they come in with a sack lunch. Nothing wrong

(42:58):
with that. But we remember up at Serengetti you get
in your jeep and within twenty seconds you're outside the
gate looking for animals. You don't have that hour and
a half driving. They are, they are and there's nothing
like the great migration. Well, thank you so much for

(43:20):
your call. Appreciate it, and thank you for listening to
the travel show. Uh you know, I I thank you.
I really appreciate her call. I'll tell you something about
the vehicles in Africa. We use the new Toyota land Cruiser.
It will it will seat eight people plus the driver.

(43:43):
We don't put more than four. And I don't know
of another company anywhere that only puts for it. And
here's the reason why. With four people in an i'll
call it eight passenger plus the driver. You can go
right to left, up and down, backwards and forwards. See,
the animals have never learned to only come to your

(44:05):
side of the vehicle. And I see some of these
vehicles every seat taken. Well, if you're seated on the
right side and the animals are on the left, you
can't get over to the left because those people are there. Now,
if a family comes or a group of friends say, hey,
there's six of us, we all want to be in

(44:26):
the same jeep, of course we'll accommodate you, but that's
at your request. We only put four. And so the
lodges are the best available. On everybody in their dog
or lion wants to get into these lodges. They grandfather,
we've been doing business with these lodges for over twenty
five years, and so they allow us to have the

(44:49):
reservations first. So that is just one difference between our
safari and others. I want to remind you we have
space for only four couples. We cap our group at
twenty eight people. I don't want a convention, and Jim Gee,
who is the ultimate game tracker and guide, is with

(45:13):
every group with just a couple of exceptions where another
one of our guides is there. We have space leaving
the US July thirtieth this summer, returning August, space for
just four couples. I'd love to have you join us.
Really appreciate that call well. As mentioned these so called

(45:35):
secret airfares, because the actual legal term is a tour
operator fair, which means they give these huge discounts on
the air. But we can't sell air only, and only
a handful of tour companies get these prices. But we
have to bundle it with something. Maybe it's a car rental,

(45:56):
maybe it's a hotel. It doesn't even have to be
a hotel or car rental for the length of your stay. Frankly,
off the record, we have some people that don't even
pick up the car. They'll get it for two or
three days and they're staying at a longer time. Looks

(46:17):
like we have another caller. Perhaps I don't see a
name there, Denny, but Kent Kent calling in from Salt
Lake City, Kent. Welcome to the Travel Show.

Speaker 4 (46:31):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (46:32):
I've just wanted to tell you we're going with you
to Iceland, looking forward to that. When I tried to
get a permission to go to England, I went on
the internet side that you suggested and found it directed
me to one that costs about two hundred dollars. We
need to tell everybody if they want to go to England,

(46:54):
not to go to the same site that they thought
they had, but to one that's further down the line.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
You know, I can't. I appreciate that. I apologize if
there's been some mix up. Let me tell you about
It's called an ETA. It's electronic travel authorization. The actual
cost is ten pounds about thirteen dollars, and it is

(47:21):
a government site. There's an app and the symbolon has
a crown. Now you know, Australia, New Zealand, the European Union,
the UK all require an ETA Electronic Travel Authorization the
one for the United Kingdom or Britain is ten British

(47:43):
pounds or sterling and about thirteen dollars. But for all
these countries and visas to these companies that they out
there and you think they're the real thing, and all
they do is direct you and collect an outrageous fee.
I'm going to go back to our company and correct

(48:07):
that and make sure that we're given the right information.
Now I got I'm on that tour with you Iceland
to London. I got an email from the group department
and it had the correct link, so I'm not sure
about yours. We're coming to the end of this segment. Kent.
Thank you so much for calling and bringing this to

(48:28):
our attention, and thank you for listening to the Travel Show.
When we come back, thank you Ken. When we come back,
we're actually going to talk to a leprechaun. I have
trapped a real leprecn in Ireland and we're going to
talk to him here on the Travel Show. You're listening

(49:04):
to the Travel Show every weekend at this time on
this station, and it's my privilege for thirty four years
to be your travel host and travel partner. Larry Yelwicks
the getaway guru with Morris Columbus Travel. Do check out
their website Morriscolumbus dot Commorriscolumbus dot com. Now, each of

(49:26):
the travel advisors has a direct line. If you have that,
call them direct. If you don't have a personal travel advisor,
call eight hundred triple nine forty six forty six. Now
that's easy to remember. Eight hundred triple nine forty six
forty six. I talked earlier before our calls came in,

(49:49):
and I am so grateful for the calls about these
secret airfares or tour operator fairs. Morris Columbus Travel is
one of the few tour companies that actually has its
own tour operator fares. I am not aware of another
company in the Inner Mountain area that has them. Maybe
there is one, I'm just not aware of it. Anyway,

(50:10):
let me talk about a couple of real popular Mexico
all inclusives in Hawaii using the secret airfare, which discounts
the airfare and then you add a hotel. These programs
are six days, five nights kind of a standard. You
can certainly add more. I recommend that you do. Let's

(50:32):
go to Hawaii first, at the Ohio Waikiki Studio Suites.
This is a five star over the top deluxe five
star in Oahu. Now the rates vary by departure date
and are subject to change and availability at the time
of booking. So I was looking at something after the

(50:52):
big summer rush has happened. So I was looking at
the first week of September, the fourth to the ninth,
in particular, round trip air, all your taxes, and the
six days, five nights hotel at a five star hotel
Ohel Waikiki Suites one thousand and seventy one per person.

(51:15):
These are all based on double occupancy. By the way,
ohea Hia is a flowering Hawaiian tree. Some people confuse
it with Ohanna, which is the Hawaiian word for family.
Oh ha na Ohea Waikiki Suites from one thousand and
seventy one per person. Let's go to Mexico can Kuhn

(51:37):
at a first class four star all inclusive. You know,
one of the best hotel chains in Mexico is Reu
r Io, and in can Kuhn, I really like the
Rio Tequila all inclusion. Now, don't let tequila the word
throw you off. Yes, it's a drink. But the name

(51:57):
tequila has a couple of meaning in the Inca language,
and the Incas weren't in Mexico. They were present day
Colombia down to Chile. The word quila, which from tequila
comes met goddess of the moon, and then they're in
Mexico with the Aztecs. The native language was Najatal and

(52:23):
what the word meant tequila or tequila was was good fortune,
hard work, so it has a very positive The word
tequila has a very positive meaning working, hard, accomplishment, Goddess
of the moon. But most people associated with the drake

(52:46):
don't let that throw you off. At the Rio Tequila,
Goddess of the Moon. I looked at May eighth to
the thirteenth, before the summer crunch gets there, one thousand
and forty eight. And this is all inclusive, round trip air,
round trip airport, resort transfers, your beachfront resort, all your meals, drinks,

(53:06):
everything entertainment, even your taxes and gratuities. Going to Porto
Vyota at the Rio Jalisco, same dates, May eighth, the thirteenth,
A thousand and ten per person. You know, Mexico, people
ask me all the time. Hawaii or Mexico. They're so different,
I can't compare them. I love Hawaii, just got back

(53:28):
a week ago yesterday, Kathy and I from Maui. But
the best travel values are two things right now, cruises
and Mexico all inclusive. When you can go to Mexico
for six days, I say add a few days to
it for about a thousand bucks all inclusive, that is

(53:49):
the deal of the century. Give Morris Columbus Travel a
call for all of the details of Hawaii and the
all inclusives in Mexico. Now, you know, we just talked
to the leprechaun, Mark Folmo about that fantastic Councils of
Ireland tour. You know that I have a love for Asia,

(54:11):
Southeast Asia. And why do I love Southeast Asia? Well,
first and foremost it's the people, the graciousness of the culture,
the food. Think of hands in a praying position, they're
put together. You see it all the time, right under
the chin in that praying format. This is in Thailand

(54:34):
is called a why. No relation to the school to
the south the why and with a bow greeting people.
Children greet their parents, their school teachers. You'll greet business associations,
you'll greet total strangers with this bow of the head
and the hands put together this graciousness, the politeness of

(54:55):
the culture. And don't even get me started on the food.
My gosh, the food, and these people love to eat.
They really do healthy portions and healthy food. It's exotic.
It's everything from tropical islands rice paddies to the foothills
of the Himalaya's elephants, silk factories and by the way,

(55:18):
for love, massage. Kathy and I have this joke among us.
Massage is part of the culture. Everybody does it and
very appropriate, very modest, and very relaxing. We had Kenny
and I have this joke that when we go to Thailand,
I get over the three or four times a year
our business takes me there. We have this joke that, okay,

(55:41):
this trip, we're going to get a massage every day.
We like the couple's massage in the same room, separate table,
separate massage therapists. We've never done it, we never will,
but that's our joke. You want a foot massage, usually
about an hour. You're gonna pay about seven or eight
dollars for a foots size and your feet feel like

(56:01):
rubber on it anyway, you know, it's just something about it.
Now I have I take that Thailand Cambodia trip every year.
It typically sail completely sells out in a week or less.
I'm gonna do another very unique Southeast Asia program. I've

(56:24):
done it before several years ago with Alma Waterways, in
my view, one of the best river companies. They sail
in Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia, and I've sailed with
them in Europe, Asia and Africa. We're going to do
the make Kong River. It's Cambodia and Vietnam. The actual

(56:44):
cruise dates are next year, November ninth to the sixteenth.
I tell people we start in Anchor Wat, but that's
not completely correct, but it's an easy answer because you'll
fly into sin that's the home of Anchor Watt Anchor
Tom the over eight hundred kimmer temples, about maybe two

(57:08):
hundred have been recovered. But we drive about three and
a half hours south of Sea and Reap and that's
where we board the Chip in Kempong Tam And it's
a beautiful over the top deluxe riverboat and it only
holds about eighty people. Eighty to ninety people so it's

(57:29):
a small intimate group, but it's all up to the
Alma Waterways standards, which are fantastic. And if you'll go
on our website, I'm not going to give you a
day by day, but it is mind blowing the things
that we do. And so if you'll go to Morriscolumbus
dot com. You've heard this before. Scroll down on the homepage,

(57:50):
click on Morris Murdoch escorted tours and click cruises. Don't
click Asia because that's just land tours. Click cruises for
all cruises, go to twenty twenty six November and then
click on more information. Then click on itineraries and you
get a day by day of what we're going to

(58:12):
be doing. Now here's the best part. We have chartered,
meaning we bought half the ship. The cabins are ours
and because of that we get a monster discount. Let
me tell you this is the lead prices. Like a
Category E, which is a window cabin if you buy

(58:35):
it directly, this is the lead cabin directly from Alma Waterways.
This is what everybody else in the world is paying.
Is thirty six forty nine plus some taxes. Thirty six
forty nine. The very same cabin, the very same ship,
the same dates. If you buy it with me and

(58:56):
Morris Columbus Travel is twenty nine to ninety nine is
approximately a six hundred and fifty dollars discount or thirteen
hundred dollars per couple. You're gonna pay less for the
same thing. If you ever wanted to explore the riches
of the Makong, I want you to come with me

(59:18):
and as we we will have a pre cruise option
to Bangkok, Thailand for four days, three nights. It's an option.
You don't have to do it, but I hope you do.
We will explore Thailand, then we will fly to see
and Reap. Now, if you just do the cruise, you

(59:39):
don't see Anchor Watt, you don't see Anchor Tom, you
don't see c and Reap. So we will have not
only a pre cruise Bangkok option, Thailand option, We'll have
a pre cruise Anchor Watt option and you can see
all the riches of the Kimmer Empire. And then we're

(01:00:00):
down to Kempong Chong to pick up the ship. And
so those are options you can discuss with your Morris
Columbus Travel advisor. The cruise dates are November ninth to
the sixteenth. If you do the pre cruise options one
or both, of course you're going to leave earlier. Now

(01:00:21):
the ship disembarks November sixteenth in oh I call it Saigon.
It's now Ho Chi Minh City, the same place. We
have a post cruise option to see that part of Vietnam,
the Maykong Delta, Saigon, the remnants of the war, everything
about it. And that's two nights, two days there and

(01:00:45):
that's an option. Love to have you join me on
all of the options, but join us on this cruise.
Contact Morris Columbus Travel and it's the November ninth to
the sixteenth. That is only the cruise date, the Mae
Kong River with options to Thailand, Anchor Watt and Saigon.

(01:01:06):
Love to have you join me. I'll be talking more
about this as we go through the year, but space
is very limited because again it is a smaller ship.
Now when we come back, I want to talk to
you about a visit to Paris and the Send River
right here on the travel show. John Potter will actually

(01:01:28):
be taking this tour. It's a river cruise with Alma
Waterways next August for the Send River Normandy lahab Ruen,
that's with Pluto when we come back.
