Speaker 1 (00:00):
Guru. We have a great show lined up for you today.
I've told you before, I just get giddy every weekend
looking forward to coming to the studio and talking and
dreaming and sharing travel with you. Some of the highlights
today is we're going to get an update on some
new developments at the Salt Lake International Airport, a special

(00:22):
eclipse tour, and I'm going to take you to Kai Lua, Kona.
We'll be visiting Rome and a complete guide to what
foods you can actually fly with and get through TSA
why do we love Hawaii? And what questions should you
be asking before your next visit to Hawaii? And then

(00:46):
this is a good one. I want to introduce you
to Jetbridge Jesus. Now, I'm not being sacrilegious. That's an
actual term that is a huge problem for airlines, particularly
Southwest Airlines. Well, we do welcome you to the travel Show.
I'm Larry Gelwicks, the Getaway Guru, joined today by Wendy Frakia,

(01:08):
Group department manager for Morris Columbus Travel and the brand
name Morris Murdoch Escorted Tourist. That's the brand name for
Morris Columbus's escorted programs.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Wendy, welcome back here to the travel Thank you always
love being here with you.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, it's my pleasure to believe me. Well, we've got
summer coming and it's a very busy travel season. What's
interesting is there is more interest now in international travel
than domestic travel. Of course, people are going to be
traveling domestically by car, train, bicycle, and air. But it's

(01:49):
interesting looking at Google travel searches. It used to be
about sixty percent of them were domestic inquiries, about forty
percent international. That's flipped. It's about sixty percent international Google
travel searches and about forty percent on the domestic side.

(02:10):
What's going on internationally? Why are people so anxious to
sail the seven seas and see the four corners of
the globe?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
You know, the world is just small now thanks to
the Internet, we've got connections all over the world. We've
got connections everybody's everybody's got connections. But we're seeing how
amazing these places are, how easy it is to get there,
and just what's out there for us to see. I

(02:39):
honestly think that that is just thanks to the Web.
We just know there's so much.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well, let's talk about some advice for those considering or
planning or going international travel, what is some of the
best advice you would give them in their preparation.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
I would always say start with a travel advisor. If
you're going someplace new for the very first time, you
need to make sure that you've got some expert guidance.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
You know, that's great advice, a professional and experience. Quite frankly,
there's a lot of hacks out there. Now I'm gonna
I'm going to tell you a problem with travel advisors.
There is no required industry standard. In other words, you
go to a dentist. Now he may be a knucklehead,

(03:32):
he may be a great dentist, but you know, at
least he has passed a certification process. He's the same
with an attorney. He's passed the bar exam. He may
not pass the bar, but he's passed the bar exams.
And the same with doctors. And you know, financial planners
certified financial planners. In the travel industry, there is no

(03:56):
mandated or required certific And so if Joe Blow puts
up a sign Joe Blow Travel, you walk in with
an expectation that Joe knows his head from a hole
in the ground. And that may not be the case.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Now. I was a little worried at first when you
were going within that direction, but you hit that on
the head, honestly, because I'm seeing it all the time.
There are so many people say, come be travel advisor.
All you need to do is pay this, I'll give
you all the access to everything you need and you
can do this. And there's some amazing people out there
who've traveled and they've planned amazing family vacations. As soon

(04:37):
as you have the responsibility of somebody else's money, somebody
else's dream, somebody else's experience, it becomes a different It
really does.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
And it's you know, you plan things out, but there's
so much more to it, you know, you do.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
You look at Instagram all the time.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
I love Instagram, and I'm constantly seeing pop up for
become a travel agent. Become a travel agent, And what
it really is is you pay a host company a
fee and then they say, you're one of us, plan
a trip and we'll give you a commission. And I
could spend the rest of this year telling you horror

(05:19):
stories of people planning this, that and the other. No,
you really aren't a travel agent, a professional.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
And experienced, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
What I was going to say is one of the
things that I so appreciate about Morris Columbus Travel and
Morris Murdoch escorted tours and Morris Murdoch Morris meetings and incentives.
The incentive division is that you're dealing with professional experience,

(05:50):
highly trained, and we could tell stories about that too,
highly trade. You know, a while back, I did a
story on a breakout out of a local travel company,
one of many they say we're going to do this
for you. It was a group tour company. They went bankrupt,
millions of dollars in deposits they had spent, and now

(06:14):
they've resurfaced under another name for.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
The fourth time, for the fourth time, and.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
You know, but you have this expectation of that.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
One thing I was just going to add Larry, is
there are some amazing independent travel agents out there. Yes,
there are, and they've got amazing experience. You just have
to make sure that you vet your professional you're working with.
I think that's we don't want to offend anybody out there.
There's some amazing people who who work in all different
areas of travel. You just have to make sure you

(06:44):
vet them and you ask them. How protected your money is,
what their experience is, and that's the best thing you
can do. I always say, with our Escorted Tour Division,
we've refunded almost five million dollars in travel because that's
who we are and what they do. Yes, just COVID.
Not everybody's doing that. Just make sure who you're working with.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Well, let's travel around the world. Some of my advice
is review all your travel documents, your airline tickets, crews, hotel, transportation,
passport validity. My youngest son, Keaton, some years ago, was
on the we were driving him. I was driving him
to the airport. He was headed to Mexico for a

(07:25):
vacation and I said, hey, Katon, you got your pastor?
Oh yeah, Dad, and I just said pull it out.
He opened up as he's expired passport. So fortunately we're
still close to home. We went back and got that.
Most countries, not all, most countries require six months validity.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
After your return your return date to do that.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Now, you can check that out. A great website, travel
dot state dot gov. Travel dot state dot gov. We've
talked about this before the show. It's maintained by the
US State Department and it will give you all sorts
of validity and travel instructions. Now, if you're traveling on
your own and there's nothing wrong with that, I suggest

(08:10):
that you download the Google offline maps and keep them
on yourself. You don't always have a connection overseas, and
you'll have that call your cell phone provider and just
find out your data plan, your phone plan. I've told
the story. I always put it on airplane mode because

(08:33):
I don't have unlimited international data, or just turn the
data function off. You know, I go to Thailand two
three four times a year, never enough, and on one
of these trips, I thought I turned it off, but
I guess I didn't swipe it properly. I get back.
I was there a little over two two and a

(08:54):
half weeks in Thailand and Cambodia. I had a nine
hundred dollars phone bill, all of it international. That phone
is just sucking. In twenty four to seven, I called
AT and T. They were very understanding. However, they wanted
their money. They wanted their money. Mercy did not rock
just I had to pay a nine hundred dollars bill.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
They've got some great international calling plans. You need to
make sure that adds definitely something you're checking out.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I've told you to make three passport copies, a simple
photo copy that you keep with you, a photo of
the information page you keep in your cell phone photo gallery,
and then download that cell phone photo to your server.
Why three copies. In the unlikely event that your passport
has lost or stolen, you can't come home until you

(09:45):
get a replacement. And if you can walk in with
a copy of it, generally you'll get it that day
if you're early in the morning, or the next day,
one or two days. Otherwise you're calling myrtle to come
and find things down back at home. Thoroughly research your

(10:07):
destinations and find out where your hotel is located, what
things are near that well. Do take a look at
travel dot state dot gov, travel dot state dot gov,
and you're gonna have a wonderful trip. Hey. Coming up

(10:27):
next on the Travel Show, we have the director of
Business Development of the Salt Lake International Airport with sun
or Announcedates you're listening to the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gelwicks,

(10:51):
the getaway Guru. The Travel Show is sponsored by Morris
Columbus Travel, where you always travel more and pay less.
You can check We've got all the specials at Morris
Columbus Travel at their website Morriscolumbus dot com or give
them a ring at eight hundred triple nine forty six
forty six. I'm joined today by Wendy Frakie, a group

(11:13):
department manager at Morris Columbus Travel. Wendy, we have a
very special guest and a good friend of mine, Nate Levin,
who is the air Service and Business Development manager for
Salt Lake International Airport. Nate, Welcome to the Travel Show.
Thank you, Larry. It's great to be with you. I

(11:33):
appreciate the invite. Well, you know, I'm kind of surprised
you even had time to come on the show. With
how busy things are at the airport. We have seen
significant increase save from twenty three, twenty twenty three to
twenty twenty four. Of course, twenty twenty four is the
last complete year we have. What's going on with the

(11:54):
huge increase at Salt Lake International.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Yeah, there there's a lot going on. This market is
growing quickly, as we all know. There's a large population
gain which is driving demand at the airport as well
as people want to travel. That's since COVID, that's really
been a trend and we're experiencing that here at the
airport as well as a return to business travel that's

(12:22):
basically up on all cylinders. And so twenty twenty four
was a record year for US twenty eight point four
million passengers, which was a five point two percent increase
from twenty twenty three.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
That is so cool, so crazy. Now we have five
new airlines serving Salt Lake since twenty twenty. What's going
on with them? And who are they? So in twenty yeah,
go ahead for sure, so oh, no problem.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
The new Salt Lake City Airport opened up the first
phase in twenty twenty and we've been opening phases ever
since and this has really enabled the growth from new
airline at the airport. So yes, since twenty twenty, we
have had five new airlines. Air Canada which is a
Canadian airline of Force west Jet, which just started service

(13:12):
here on May fifteenth to Edmonton, Canada. So two new
Canadian carriers and three new domestic carriers, Spirit, Hawaiian and
Sun Country.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
It is a great time to flying in and out
of Salt Lake. Now some new routes by these airlines
have been announced. What are some of the new destinations
that you can fly to out of Salt Lake and
I think these are NonStop destinations, aren't they correct? Yes.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Our hub carrier, Delta Airlines, who flies the vast majority
of the flights at Salti International, has also been growing
at the airport and has announced just this year five
new destinations, including Fireville, Arkansas, Fairbanks, Alaska, which is a
seasonal summer route, Little Rock, Arkansas. We're excited that they

(14:04):
are going to be resuming service to Kona, Hawaii in December.
That's a seasonal route that'll run through March. We haven't
had service to COONa for at least fifteen or so years.
And then new seasonal service daily service to Fort Myers,
Florida also coming in December. And then of course in
less than a week, we are so excited that Seoul

(14:26):
Incheon service will be starting, bringing back Asia's service to
Salt Lake City after a twelve year absence when we
used to have Tokyo Narita service. So Delta will be
starting daily service to here next Thursday.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Now what about Mexico there yet flying now non stop
for sure.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
So Aero Mexico of course is a joint venture partner
with Delta and they fly they've been flying Guadalhara service
and last year have seasonal Mexico City service. And then
we're very excited that this December through the holiday season
they will be offering NonStop flights to Monterey, Mexico.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
And not to be outdone, United is going back to
Washington Dulles Airport, aren't they?

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (15:15):
And so Washington d C has been an area that
we needed more capacity to and so we're excited that
United as they last December started daily service to Washington
Dolls and they've got great connectivity. That's one of their
Transatlantic hubs. So you can make great connections to Europe
and Africa out of Washington Dolas.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
This is fantastic. We're speaking with Nate Levin, air Service
and Business Development manager for Salt Lake International Airports, the
Salt Lake Department of Airports. Now I'll just mention, by
the end of this year, Nate, this is so cool.
We will have one hundred and seven NonStop destinations out

(15:59):
of so Lake, including seven countries. Now, Wendykin, where do
we have NonStop I'm going to play stump the dummy
right now? What countries do we have NonStop service to?

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Paris?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Well, France, Yes, London, the UK, Cancun, don't we Mexico, Mexico, Hawaii.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Well that last I checked, that was part of the US.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
I'm sorry, thank you.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Let's go. We have Mexico and Canada, the UK, France, Netherlands, Korea.
Which one have I left out? That's six? Canada, Canada Okay,
and of course Canada.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Which is not a state.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Thank you, it's not the fifteenth first state. Hey Nate,
we got about two minutes left. Would you quickly go
through the expansion of the Salt Lake Airport and the
different phases? Sure?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
So.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
Like I said, in twenty twenty, Phase one of the
new Salt Lake City Airport opened and Phase two has
since opened and Phase three in October twenty four. We're
looking forward to the first part of Phase four to
open up this October, which will include a second Delta
sky Club, which I know many will be excited about. Yeah,

(17:22):
the first one in Concourse A gets very busy, so
we're excited about additional lounge space, not just by Delta,
but American Express will also be opening up a brand
new Centurion Lounge on Concourse B this fall, including and
also including ten new gates and then finally in the
fall of twenty twenty six, the new SLC Airport redevelopment

(17:44):
program will come to a close when Phase four, Part
two opens with eleven new gates and various more concessions.
So this by the time the project ends in twenty
twenty six, it will have been a twelve year project
and so we're very excited that it's coming to her
close soon.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
We're speaking with Nate Levin, the air service and Business
Development manager at Salt Lake International Airport. Nate, I appreciate
you coming on the show. I hope that you'll come back.
I keep us posted on all things Salt Lake internationale
more on the Traveler Show when we come back. Welcome

(18:34):
back to the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gelwiz, the Getaway Goolu,
joined today in studio by the lovely and talented the
one to Own Me win Me Frakiat Group Department Manager
at Morris Columbus Travel. Do check out all the escorted
programs offered by Morris Columbus Travel. Go to their website

(18:55):
Morriscolumbus dot com. That's Morriscolumbus dot com, and then on
the home page, simply scroll down to the third item,
which is Morris Murdoch Escorted Tours. That's the brand name,
kind of like General Motors and Chevrolet, same company, two
different names, And check out all the offerings. If it's

(19:17):
a cruise, simply click on cruises. If it's a land tour,
click on the geographic destination, be it Africa, Asia, South America, Europe,
of the Americas or whatever. Some incredible programs. And in
this segment we're going to talk about a blockbuster tour

(19:38):
that is flying off the shelves, it's so popular. But
first let's talk about group tours. Wendy, I want you
to talk about the benefit of a Morris Murdoch escorted tour,
and then I want you to address a sensitive subject,
is that some people are adverse I would never go

(20:01):
on a group tour. What do you say to them? First?

Speaker 2 (20:03):
The benefits, Well, the benefits are so many and it's
hard for me to narrow down on. I think the
biggest benefit is I think it's traveling with friends, family,
like minded people. The benefit of not having to think
hard while you're on this trip because you're taking care
of you are being shepherd through an entire experience, and

(20:26):
the value that you are getting from the experience as well,
so I think off the top, that's the biggest benefits.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
I think one of the great benefits that my wife
Kathy identified was when you travel with the Morris Murdoch
escorted tour, you only have to remember one thing. Show
up on.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
Time, show up on Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
You're a neighbor of mine and one of my dear friends, Steve.
In his work, he traveled the world constantly and I
kept trying to get him to join Kathy and I
on one of our tours, he and his wife Susan,
but he wouldn't do it. I don't want to be

(21:10):
herded like cattle or this or that. I should have
knocked him around, but I didn't because he's my friend,
And finally I convinced them him to join us on
our Legends of Siam, Thailand and Cambodi. Now he had
been to Bangkok a number of times on business. He's
in and out, and he was blown away. He said,

(21:34):
I never understood how great a well organized tour could be,
And he said I just had I just had to
show up. My meals at great restaurants were taking care of.
Everything was planned, the admissions, we skipped lines, We went
to places I never would have known about. In fact,

(21:54):
he was so enthusiastic I brought him here on the
Travel Show broadcast and he was. I mean, he was
our best promoter of group tours.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
I think people who go on their very first group
experience come back and they are our best promoters out
there because, like you said, specifically, with an MMET tour,
Morris Murdock escorted tours, you do see not just the
value that we that we extend on our programs, the quality,

(22:26):
but the support you get all the way through and
you are so well taken care of.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
One of the things I've noticed about Morris Murdoch escorted tours,
Morris Columbus travel is that people are concerned I'm going
to be herded like cattle or something. That's not the
case now for all the things that you know you
want to see and things that you don't know that

(22:55):
you want to see, but they're exciting. It's all arranged.
But all of our tours have free time so that
you can do your own.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Thing, especially on cruises.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
I think that that is absolutely like if we're if
we're on a Holy Land tour, we keep you busy
pretty much from breakfast until dinner, because you're there for
a period of time and there's so many things we
want to show you. But on a cruise tour and
on some of our other Europe tours, we're going to
make sure that you have the time to go explore,

(23:27):
go to different restaurants.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
And now there is a particular tour, uh huh that
I want you to introduce. It's around the twenty twenty
six eclipse. And this is like hotcakes. It's selling.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
So if anybody last year saw the total eclipse that
happened all through the US, I went specifically to Texas
to be in the line of totality for that eclipse,
and it, to me was the first time I remember
such a celestial, amazing event. It really was so much

(24:05):
more than I expected. And then I heard about this experience.
The next total solar eclipse is going to be in Europe,
and we've got an amazing cruise program that we have
that is going out of Southampton or London next August.
It's August fourth, and this is with World Caribbean Cruise

(24:27):
Line and we are going to go to Spain and Portugal.
But we get an entire day that is spent at
sea and that is and that is the eclipse day,
and the theme with being on board a ship is
we're chasing down that eclipse. You're there for a very
specific reason. You are going to get the best visual
experience on that eclipse you can. But you're also seeing

(24:50):
Spain and Portugal, which are amazing destinations. So for our
faith based travelers or anybody in general, we've got some
amazing special guests who are coming on this one. We'll
be there managing all the details. We have two days
included in London at the beginning. If this is included
in our price, and it our price we're offering is

(25:12):
better than what Royal Cribbean is.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Now. One of the tour escorts is Elaine Dalton, a
wonderful woman. She did serve as the Young Women's President
for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
But I understand there is a second host who we
can't name, and when we finally can name him in August,

(25:40):
you will understand why we couldn't name him. However, if
you are dying of curiosity, you can find out who
he is.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Just by calling and asking.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Actually, because he is currently still calling it in a
calling in a general office.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
We're just being kind and not promoting reason.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Come on, but we're allowed to share it with friends
and family and be is okay, this is time sensitive
and this is what everybody needs to know. Because this
cruise is so incredibly popular. Royal Caribbean has come back
well actually they said you've got five days to sell
this and then we're pulling all your group space. But
because Morris Columbus is such a preferred agent's agency to them,

(26:25):
they gave us an extra thirty days to sell our
cabin allotment. So we've got amazing prices again. Our package,
including the London package, which is touring, hotels, meals, et cetera,
is better for the entire cruise with London than what
Royal Caribbean is currently saying.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
And what you're telling me, Wendy is if you want
to buy cruise only from Orald Caribbean, it's X yeah.
But if you buy the same date, the same cruise
with our wonderful hosts, including a couple of days in
London with hotel hell and sightseeing and meals, it is
actually lower. We'll call it X minus Y or something.

(27:09):
I mean, let me tell you, folks, one of the
things that drives me crazy in the cruise industry, and
every cruise line does this. We get a group booking
and it usually has a lower price than buying it
directly from the cruise line. Yes, but the cruise lines
reserve the right to pull your space at any time

(27:33):
for any reason. They completely pull the rug out from
under you. We've gotten a call that says tomorrow we're
pulling all your unsold space. Yep and Butler Morris Columbus
Travel is one of the largest sellers of cruise in
the entire country, especially with Royal Caribbean. We have a

(27:54):
special national account status that's very, very rare. I believe eve.
We're the only travel company in Utah and Idaho that
has national status, in other words, a national account status.
We have our own dedicated business development manager that just
takes care of us. Now, it ain't bragging if it's true,

(28:17):
and it's true, and so with that a lot of
extras come. We sometimes have promotions that are exclusive to
Morris Columbus. So if you're ever looking at any cruise,
be it a group cruise or just as an individual
or a couple, do all the research you can, but
then call Morris Columbus and see if we can add

(28:40):
to it, and generally we can. So here's what happens
with this. We call it the Iberian Eclipse. It's England,
Spain and Portugal with Elaine Dalton and a special guest
who'll be released August first. Anyway, it's selling so well

(29:01):
and to the public across the country, selling like hotcakes.
They said, Or's Columbus, Wendy, we want all your unsold
space back. Well, we kind of threw a polite royal
fit and got our business development manager who's dedicated to
our account and all of our offices, to get a

(29:23):
thirty day reprieve, which means that when this expires, prices are.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Going to go up, up, up, up exactly now. That's
the last time this happened. They only gave us two
weeks and we were really happy with that. We're really
happy with thirty days. But the thing is is we've
got balcony cabins, we've got ocean view and insight on
this particular cruise. But these balconies are selling so fast.
You want to be on a balcony, you need to

(29:50):
jump in and you need to get this booked right away,
and it'll.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Save money and you'll see London and.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
You will have an incredible event experience. You'll the London, Spain,
Portugal and a full solar eclipse.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
You know, one of the cruises that I'll be hosting.
I'm going to go into some more detail later in
the show. This is also a hot sellar because it's
so popular. Is we always dream of the South Seas,
the allure, the draw of Polynesia and the South Pacific.
Next year May fifteenth to the twenty seventh, I'll be

(30:26):
hosting a Tahiti to Honolulu cruise. Now, this one is popular,
isn't it, Wendy.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Oh, it is going so well right now. And the
thing is this is like the third time. Is that
the third or fourth time that you've taken this cruise out?

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Third or fourth?

Speaker 2 (30:42):
And it's the word of mouth of the amazing experience
that you provide to everybody, not just on the cruise,
but the experiences that you help them with that people
just are either going again or they said, yeah, this
is the one my friend did.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
I want to do it well.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
When we come back an hour later on the show,
I want to tell you a little bit more about
this one, how to fulfill your dreams and a free
airfare offer to heat fly to Tahiti, my ome loo
right here on the Travel Show. Hey, next segment, let's
talk about Rod. You're listening to the Travel Show every

(31:30):
weekend of this very station, this very time. I'm Mary Gelwicks.
The giveaway Gurum. The Travel Show is sponsored by Morris
Columbus Traveler. You're always travel more and pay. Let's check
out their website at Morris Columbus dot com. I'm joined
today by Wendy Fraki, a group department manager with Morris

(31:51):
Columbus Travel and Morris Murdoch Escorted Tours. Wendy, A very
popular way to visit Europe is on a Mediterranean cruise
where you can visit many countries. You pack and unpack
one time. It's a popular item.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
It's probably one of our most popular cruises that we
do for the places that you visit, the places the
cruises depart. They give you opportunities to see so much
of Europe and that beautiful part of the world with
a pack and unpack once.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Theory.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Well, we've got a surprise. We have one of our callers,
one of our listeners, Lisa calling in from Syracuse, who
I understand recently participated sailed with Morris Columbus. Morris Murdock
escorted tours on a Mediterranean cruise. Lisa, welcome to the
Travel Show.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
Thank you, it's a pleasure to be here.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Thanks. Hi, Lisa.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Tell me you were just on the cruise that left
out of Rome. You had a couple of days in Rome,
and then where did you go?

Speaker 5 (33:00):
Oh? We went everywhere we went to in Rome.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
We went to the.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
Vatican, to the Sistine Chapel, to Saint Peter's Basilica, to
the Vatican museums, to the Temple.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
So it was a fish soul experience in Rome.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
It was full. It was full in Rome and so
much fun. And then we also visited Turkey and Greece
as well.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Did you have a favorite port that you went to.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
I truly loved going to Rome, probably the most because
of the history there. But I really loved also going
to Greece. The Santorini and Mikinos were exceptional.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Oh, they are both so beautiful. And you were with
Royal Caribbean. How was your experience with Royal Caribbean.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
It was great. We had great service this time, and
the food was also awesome, and we were with great friends,
so it couldn't be better.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
That is so great.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
I was going to ask you if this was your
first cruise or first experience with Morris Murdock escorted tours. No.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
Last year we actually went with Morris Murdock to the
British Isles and that was also amazing, and that's one
reason why we decided to book again.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
That is so great.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Well, is there something about your experience that you've had
with us that you think is something that you tell
people about. Oh?

Speaker 5 (34:32):
Yes, I've told everyone and we'll continue to. I love
the travel agent Danny Edmund. Her attention to detail was
exceptional in both trips. Also, having Anthony sweat if his
inspirational devotionals was just over the top and amazing. And

(34:53):
that combination of every detail being taken care of as
well as having Anthony Sweat there, it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
It sounds like it just kind of tied everything together
in a pretty bow. And I just, yeah, I heard
some fabulous things about this trip, So thank you for
pointing out Danny's efforts. I know how hard she works
on these programs and we love all of how different
tour directors, So I appreciate you calling in and sharing that.

(35:22):
If you had to name your number one top besides Rome,
because we talked about Rome, what would be the one
thing that you would share most about your experience.

Speaker 5 (35:39):
I think it would be grief well, and also Turkey.
Let me say, in Turkey we had a demonstration on
how they make Turkish rud and had a wonderful lunch
there and Turkey didn't look like I thought it would
and it was absolutely beautiful and so much fun.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Lisa, thank you so much. I really appreciate you sharing
your experience. It's so great to hear from people when
you come back from a trip and all that information
is fresh. We have got another similar tour to this
that we're doing next spring with Kay Godfrey as the

(36:15):
host on that one, but it's also going to include
the pre tour in Rome, which Lisa sounds like that
was one of the most ideal things on this trip
for you, but also selling with Orald Caribbean Cruise Line
and it sounds like it's hitting all the same ports,
so Danny knows how to pick the winners, obviously, and

(36:35):
this trip with Kay Godfrey for next year for anybody
else who's looking for a similar experience is available.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
We would love to have you join us.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Lisa, I really appreciate you sharing that and I can't
wait till you travel with us again.

Speaker 5 (36:51):
Oh yes, we're looking forward to it and planning on
going next year again.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Lisa, thank you so much for joining us on the
travel show. We got about a minus till we go
to break. Wendy give us the highlights of K Godfrey
April twentieth to May third next year. It's a medcruise
with med cruise with three nights in Rome.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
You know, Lisa really kind of hit the key points
to these cruises. Cret Santorini, Ephesus, Mikino's, Athens, Naples, and
of course Naples is the gateway to Pompeii, so you
get to have a that full experience in Rome, you

(37:31):
get to see the Amalfi Coast. Kay Godfrey is an
amazing church educator, historian and anthropologists.

Speaker 1 (37:41):

they named the top ten. It wasn't one, two, three fours.
These are the top ten.

You know. One of the things I was just going
to mention when you're talking about how great we are
and is the longevity of our agents. And that's one
of the things we were hitting at the beginning of
the show on the experience of our travel consultants, but
the Escorted Group team. You know, we were talking about
Danny Edmonds on the next segment thirty five years with

(41:16):
the company this year. That is the kind of company
we are, and those are the people that we're working with.
We've got agents who have been working for this company forever, thirty.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
Years, forty seven years for me, for thirty one for me.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
There you go. Yeah, it's give us a.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
Call and if you are brilliant, there you go.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
If you love to plan your own trip, which I encourage,
then bring everything you have to us and see if
we can add to it. And my guess is we
probably can.

Speaker 5 (41:50):
You know.

Speaker 1 (41:51):
One of the things that is so much fun it
happens every week to me, Wendy, is that I'll run
into people in at a restaurant at the park who
listened to the Travel Show or see me on television,
and they always say hello. That happened to me this morning.

(42:13):
I was actually in Orum this morning watching my grandson,
nine year old Oscar, who's in his second year of rugby.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
No, he is did that come from?

Speaker 1 (42:25):
He's a beast out on the rugby field. He gets
it from his grandmother. And I had what three people
come in, Oh, Larry, And I wasn't wearing in a
Loha shirt. I'm wearing my New Zealand all blacks. That's
the national team because their jersey is all black.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
I would have never known how about that?

Speaker 1 (42:46):
But thank you for saying hello, and it's always a
nice chat. And I want to give a shout out
to Deanie, Paul and Sally who I had a chance
to visit with and chat with their faithful travel show listeners.
And so to Janie's, Paul and Sally, Happy travels and

(43:06):
I hope I'll see you on one of our escorted tours. Now.
In addition to the Travel Show, every Monday on the
new News KUTV Channel two, the CBS network affiliate for
Utah and Southern Idaho, I go on television as a
reporter not a commercial. I do commercials on several television stations,

(43:30):
but this is a reporter. I've been doing this for
about sixteen years with Channel two, the number one news
station in the market. On the new News Now pre COVID,
I would go on and sit on the set with
the anchors. They're in a nice suit and a nice dress.
I wear the loudest Aloha shirt I can find.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Now.

Speaker 1 (43:50):
I have about fifteen the Loha shirts because it's branding.
It stands out. I've had I've got people stop me
on the street and say, I recognize that shirt.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
I know that shirt.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
I know sure. Anyway, Then COVID came and KUTV Channel
two said, okay, Larry, we want to reduce foot traffic
in the studio because of COVID, So film your news report.
It's usually about two and a half minutes. It could
be hey, passport requirements of changes, Princess is having a

(44:22):
super cruise sale. It's travel news, not a commercial. And
they said film it outside and just send it in
your email it in which I did post COVID. Then
the studio said we want you back in the studio.

(44:45):
The television station said we want you back in soon.
And I said, no thanks. I have been filming this
everywhere and anywhere in the.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
World a little more authentic that it is.

Speaker 1 (44:56):
And people say so Now, I film it wherever I
Sometimes I'm in Salt Lake. Half the year I'm out
of the country and wherever it is. Now later this month,
I'm going to be in Iceland, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium and England.
You will see KUTV travel spots called the Getaway Guru.

(45:17):
It can be any time in the new News, but
generally is between twelve forty and twelve forty five. That's
generally when they play it.

Speaker 3 (45:26):
But do you take the travel Hawaiian shirts with you?

Speaker 1 (45:30):
I do? Sometimes I do. I'll take one with me
other a very bright colored fluorescent shirt.

Speaker 3 (45:37):
Yes, you have to stand out because you're a very demure.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
You will see one later this month from Norway. You
may see one from Greenland. You may see one from Iceland.
You could see one from London.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
We should have somebody go on to social media right
now and say we want to see Larry do a
travel spot from a Hi. Please listen, tell us that
you want to see him do a travel spot at
and we'll make sure he gets that done.

Speaker 1 (46:05):
The question that we always get, Larry, are you using
a green screen for the background? Nobody travels like you do?
And I agree nobody does. But no, I have never
used a green screen. Every background that you see is
live right then when we film it. And of course

(46:25):
if you see the trees moving, or people walking, or
the boats sailing, then you know it's not a green screen.
But otherwise no, never use a green screen. I hope
you'll join me not only on the Travel show every Saturday,
every weekend at this time on this station, but join
me on KUTV channel two on the noon news usually

(46:47):
twelve forty to twelve forty five. I'll bring you the
latest and greatest travel news. I also appear on the
KUTV afternoon show Fresh Living about every other week sounds.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
I've seen you on all of.

Speaker 1 (47:01):
Them, shameless self promotions, shameless listen I want to talk about.
I promise to talk about every food you can and
cannot fly with you're you know, check in and also
the carry on.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
I'll tell you what my favorite new trick is. Did
you know that with your hydrothermoss you can fill them
with ice and take them through TSA.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
That's absolutely correct, because TSA considers ice a solid exactly.
If it's melted, it's water. And then you're down to
the three to one one rule and you have to
pour it down bounces, yes, which is really I think
three point poor.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
So many of those hydroflasks, you know, they'll hold your
ice for hours, so you know what, take it with
you next time, that's right, Or.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
Go up to one of the restaurants and just ask.

Speaker 3 (47:54):
For ice that too.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
With that, well, listen, we're coming up to a break,
so what I want to do is give you the introduction.
Then when we come back, you will be surprised what
you can take and really blown away with what you cannot.
I will be talking about the following foods that are
TSA approved. Now, some items, like baby formula, they may

(48:18):
require extra screening. But if you want to be on
the safe side, make sure you label any food items
that may not be easily recognizable, such as protein, powder
or spices. Reminds me the time I was flying to
Bangkok and I take a vitamin supplement. It's a powder
I mixed with water. It's a very fine white powder.

(48:41):
I put in a zip lock bag, put it in
my bag and I'm thinking I'm going to tie Land
with a bag of fine white powder. Am I going
to have problems?

Speaker 3 (48:50):
Nobody's gonna question, nor would we come back?

Speaker 1 (48:58):
Welcome back to the Travel Show. I'm Larry Elwings. I
hope you got your seat all on because we have
an exciting show today. I'm joined today by Wendy Krack
Morris Wurdo tourist and division of Morris come up as
traveling Now. Wendy, we were talking about foods that you

(49:20):
can and cannot fly with. I told the story of
I'm thinking, I've got in my suitcase a zip lock
bag of a fine white powder that I'm taking to
Thailand and Cambodia, and I thought if they see that,

(49:42):
I'm going to be held over. Now once they test it,
they're going to see its vitamins and not coke.

Speaker 3 (49:48):
They'll get a different kind of kick.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
They'll ask me. They'll say, do you use coke?

Speaker 2 (49:53):
No?

Speaker 1 (49:53):
But I drink diet coke, is what I Here's some
of the items that are TSA approved vacuum sealed meats
and hard cheeses, not a soft cheese, but if they're
vacuum sealed packaging. Now a creamy cheese can be carried
if it's less than three point four ounces. That's the

(50:14):
three to one to one rule. It used to be
three ounces, it's now three point four Spices now we
bring back. Kathy and I buy spices all over the
world about I have now, since spices are dried, they're
generally okay to bring in your carry on or check luggage.
Make sure they're clearly labeled and unopened so they're not

(50:38):
mistaken for something else. And I suggest only buy spices
that you cannot find here at home.

Speaker 3 (50:46):
Yeah, why Elnce, but you bounced.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
I mean, yeah, it's it's uh pretty self explanatory. Dried
goods like pasta, dried beans, grains, things like that, as
long as there's no liquid. And you told me you
package snacks, well, chocolate, it's a candy.

Speaker 2 (51:06):
I used to carry almonds with me all the time,
but I was always getting stopped for almonds.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
Do you know why? Because they when.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
They're going through the X room machine, they're in the
shape of a bullet.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
Really, you know. Kathy and I always take a ziplock
bag of trail mix with us. And we flew into Sydney,
Australia in February with a travel show listener tour. That's
the Sydney to Auckland cruise, which, by the way, folks,
we are doing again February twenty twenty six from Sydney, Australia,

(51:43):
two week cruise to Auckland, New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (51:46):
That is a popular I was going to say that
one's been selling like crazy.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
It really has. But they asked do we have any
seeds or anything, and I said, yes, it's trail mix,
and the agent said, well, trail mix is okay, but
we have to X ray it.

Speaker 3 (52:04):
You know.

Speaker 2 (52:04):
I was just on an airplane the other day and
it was just a short hot but as soon as
we took off, you could just smell hamburger and French fries.
And that's just kind of the thing about bringing food
on the airplane. You know, you get your hamburger at
your little stop and then you go directly onto the
airplane and next thing, you know, I guess I've never

(52:25):
sat that close to somebody who's brought their meal on board.

Speaker 1 (52:27):
I would mug the guy next to me with the
hamburger and then eat it.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
That is like with French fries, It's like you don't
mind sharing those fries there.

Speaker 1 (52:35):
Do you are you familiar with Shakeshack right?

Speaker 2 (52:38):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (52:38):
Yeah, they're good, aren't they.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
Yeah they're expensive, but they're good.

Speaker 1 (52:41):
They're very good. Shake Shack is now catering burgers and
cheeseburgers for Delta Airlines for the premium first class passengers
domestically at eleven airports, including Salt Lake City. So it
will be showing up on a menu and I'm guessing
I seen usually in the choosing your menu item before

(53:04):
flight because they need to know how many burgers to grill.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
That is a special feature when you are flying in
those premium classes.

Speaker 1 (53:15):
Now you can also bring bread. How about bringing a
fresh French baguette from Paris when you fly home. You
know the famous department store Herods of London. Yeah, they
have a food court to end all food courts. Nothing
comes close. And so when I'm in London by myself

(53:37):
and Kathy's not with me, on my way to the
airport the day of departure, I will stop by Herods
and get pastries. Oh boy, and I get a whole
box of them, not a bag because then they jumble around.
I get a whole box and I hand deliver pastries,
fruit tarts pie like a key lime pie or something

(54:01):
to Kathy. When I get home and we have a
NonStop flight on Delta from London Heathrow to Salt Lake,
so I deliver it.

Speaker 2 (54:09):
I thought you were going to say that you handed
them out to all the flight attendancy to see if
you can get a free upgrade.

Speaker 1 (54:16):
I'm going to start doing that anyway. Other things breast milk. Now,
breast milk is considered a medically necessary liquid. Are you
listening to me, Megan? And therefore TSA's three to one
one rule does not apply. What that is? Is it
three ounces? Which is really three point four? Right? In

(54:38):
one bag? One quartz sized bag. Coffee beans and tea leaves.
If they're dry, you can breed with them. Cooked food.
You can bring cooked food provided there are no liquids.
So bring your slice Thanksgiving turkey. No mash but because

(55:00):
it's not solid, but no gravy on it either. Dried
fruit is okay in most cases. Now this one really
surprises me. Wendy. You can carry fresh eggs not only
in your carry on but in your checked baggage.

Speaker 3 (55:19):
Okay, think about that. Think about that.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
I will put a dozen eggs, not in the cart
in your suitcase on your next trip. Now you mentioned
the ice. Ice is okay. The three to one one
rule does not apply juice for formula, food and water
for babies. Now, these things are fine in the checked luggage,
but if you bring them on the plane, it will

(55:46):
require additional screening.

Speaker 3 (55:48):
Yes for that.

Speaker 1 (55:49):
Now, here's a great one pizza. You can bring pizza
on a plane. You know you can get like at
Schabaro out at the airport or or that. What's the
pizza we have in the Salt Lake airports Right next
to Hike Shack, they have a pizza place that you
can bring it. Now, the premiere of the movie of

(56:12):
Forever Strong should be your number one film was in
La Salt Lake and New York. I want to tell
you about Big Buddha, who you know here locally, bringing
an eighteen inch pizza on the Delta flight. I was
on it. I got to tell you that story. We
come back. You're listening to the Travel show every Saturday

(56:44):
at this time. I'm Larry Gelwicksteed get Away Good and
can you believe this is my thirty four year I
think it is hosting the travel show Fantastic. I'm joined
today by my friend Wendy frakkiat Group apartment manager of
Morris Murdoch Escorted Tours, the brand name for the Morris

(57:05):
Columbus Escorted programs, and do check out their offerings. Go
to Morriscolumbus dot com, which is the homepage. Scroll down
to the third item, which is Morris Murdoch Escorted Tours.
Click on that and then if it's a cruise, click
on cruises. If it's a land tour, click on the
geographic destination and Wendy, You've got a lot of tours

(57:29):
and they're pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (57:31):
They they are.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
I was just going to say, I'm so excited. I
am leaving this Sunday a week from tomorrow with a
fun group and we're going to Switzerland. I am so
excited to get to travel with these people and show
them this amazing country.

Speaker 1 (57:46):
We were talking about what you can and can't take
through TSA when you're flying, and I mentioned a story
with Big Buddha. Now, when the movie Forever Strong premiered,
which focuses on my coaching career, Hollywood movie, it's an
unbelievable honor, you know, I mean, how many funerals have

(58:07):
you gone to and some guy at the pulpit looks
over at the casket and says, you know, they made
a movie about this guy, but it chronicled I think
the greatest sports team in history in my view, for
four hundred and when I retired in twenty eleven, became

(58:27):
a man of the cloth for three years in California.
The record was four hundred and eighteen wins and just
ten losses, including twenty national championships in thirty six years.
It's a mean, it was quite a run. In fact,
this morning I was down in Orum watching my nine

(58:49):
year old grandson Oscar play rugby. He is a beast
on the field too, and they had They got about
fifteen hundred kids through the day playing rugby. Absolutely fantastic. Anyway,
the premiere for the movie Forever Strong. One of the
few movies that you can watch with your kids and

(59:10):
grandkids and not be embarrassed and teaches a great lesson.
And by the way, if you have the video the
DVD of Foreverstrong, look at the special features section. It'll
have the bloopers, the funny stuff, but it also has

(59:30):
about a twenty three minute interview with me where it's
called living Forever Strong Life Lessons from Coach Gelwicks, where
I tell stories from the rugby years that teach great
moral principles, non denominational principles. It's applicable to anyone, but

(59:53):
watch it as a family. You'll have great talking points
about honesty, about hard work, about in integrity. That again
is in the special features. Anyway, So the premiere was
in La Salt Lake and New York City, and you know,
they put us up at the Marriott Marquee right there

(01:00:13):
in Times Square. The search light's going and as we're
walking out to the had limousines for us to go
to the theater. You know, the different stars Neil McDonough,
Gary Cole and others are Nathan West, all the different
stars and the paparazzi snapping pictures. So I walk out

(01:00:39):
and I'm the movies about me. He said, who are you?
And all the photographs stopped until someone said, hey, that's
the real coach. It was, and we went in this limo. Anyway,
So we're flying home from New York and Big Buddha,
who is one of the great guys. He's with Fox

(01:00:59):
thirteen and he gets on our delta flight NonStop JFK
to Salt Lake with an eighteen inch freshly cooked pizza.
The aroma is wafing through the whole cabin and he's
gonna have to put it in the overhead bin, and
they did have the big bins. I said, oh, listen,

(01:01:22):
why don't you just let me hold it? And he said,
I don't dare, Larry, there'll be pieces missing when I
get to it, all like, and I said, yeah, that's
probably true, but we got that. I think it was
from John's Pizza. It's one of my favorites that right
there in Times Square. My absolute favorite New York pizza

(01:01:46):
is Grimaldi's out in Brooklyn. And an interesting story on
grimald is they have a coal fired oven and it's
over one hundred years old, brought over from Italy. So
you go back over one hundred years and we're, you know,
in the nineteen teens before World War One, and they've

(01:02:08):
been using this oven and it's coal fired, which belches
out smoked. Well. The environmental people went crazy some years
ago saying that you can't have coal fired anything in
the city, but they had a grandfathered permit back when

(01:02:29):
coal was used to heat in New York City. And
they had used it all through these years. But then
those who want they wanted to shut them down, the environmentalists,
and they said, well it says continuous use and they said, yeah,
we use it every day. And they said, no, that
means twenty four to seven, so we're shutting you down.

(01:02:49):
What did Grimaldi's do?

Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
They kept it burning.

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
They kept it burning twenty four to seven, week after week,
month after they'd leave an employee there to throw a
little bit of coal. And finally the the wackos said
we give up.

Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Okay, we're not going to fight anymore.

Speaker 1 (01:03:07):
Yeah. It is an incredible pizza, slightly charred, just fantastic.
So Big Buddha did make it back to Salt Lake
with his pizza intact. I tried several times when he
was sleeping to sneak a slice at and as I
wiped the cheese and pizza sauce off, I don't know

(01:03:28):
anything about this, but he kept waking up. Hey, other
things that you can bring with you and TSA. You
can bring pies and cakes, which is interesting because on
a pie it's kind of liquidy. I was going to say,
but they allow a pie, they allow a cake. Now

(01:03:49):
tell me this you are a woman who loves to cook,
all right, and you you've made homemade pies.

Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
My husband makes them more than I does.

Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Okayes think of oh, coconut cream, an apple, a cherry,
something like that. Did you know that you can check
in a fresh cake or pie in your check in luggage.

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
If you think about it, I mean, think about that,
about that?

Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
Well, you know it would be kind of more like
a what do they call those blueberry crumble exactly?

Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
It would be a cobbler of some cobbler. Yes, anyway,
you can do it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
A dear friend of mine he passed away some years ago,
Wayne and Carolyn Nelson, and he actually lived in Hawaii
for a number of years growing up. And he loved
coconut cream cake. He loved the coconut cake with the
coconut cream filling between the layers on the top, and

(01:04:51):
all sorts of shredded coconut. And he was such a
dear friend. I love the Nelsons. Carolyn's still with us.
Wayne is gone to the other side. I would stop
at King's Bakery on Kalakawa Avenue on my way to
the Honolulu Airport and hand carry a full cake in

(01:05:12):
a box and I wouldn't put it in the overhead.
I'd put it in the under the seat in front
of me, so it's not getting justled around. Yeah, you
can bring a cake, protein powder and energy powder are okay.
I told you about a fine.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
White powder that I do that all the time, and
I tell.

Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
Him, I promise it's only a nose cold sniff sniff. Sandwiches, Oh,
don't even get me started. Can you imagine bringing a
tune of salad sandwich on egg salad sandwich. I'd be
barfing just from the smell of those things.

Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
No, that's horrible.

Speaker 2 (01:05:50):
Long time ago before Krispy Kremes were everywhere, we had
gone back to Arts hometown in the South, where Krispy
Kremes are everywhere, and we probably brought home five or
six dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and had to get those
through security getting into the airport. I thought for sure

(01:06:10):
we were going to lose a couple dozen donuts through that,
but they did all make it back.

Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Now, some of the items that you can't take is
high alcohol liquor. I know Art will be I'm just
kidding anyway, Anything over seventy percent alcohol isn't beer. Like
three percent or something like that's one hundred and forty
proof is not permitted on planes, even in checked luggage. Wow, Carlos, I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Sorry, contact guys or something now.

Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
Canned goods are okay in your check bag, but not
as a carry on. Oils, vinegars, and honey make excellent
foody gifts, but there's a problem their liquids, so you
have to have the three to one one rule or
check them in to your suitcase. Three one one is

(01:07:04):
three point four ounces or less in one bag in
one bag a court sized bag. The same with dips, jams,
creamy cheese, or peanut butter. It's a spreadable island. They
have a soft consistency like a jail. But you had
a problem a friend with.

Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
Yeah, my sister brought a huge tub of nutella when
we I can't remember where we were coming home from.
It might have been Italy, but she got a huge
tub of nutella and it got confiscated. We got it
out of the country, but when we had to go
back through tsa UH for our connecting flight after immigration

(01:07:44):
in the United States, they confiscated the nutella communists.

Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
They did okay, one more fresh fruits and vegetables pack
these items with care, but fresh fruits and vegetables are
cleared by TSA in checked luggage. Most of the time,
TSA is okay with bringing solid fresh fruit, foods and carryons. However,
if they are soft, mashed or liquid, they are subject

(01:08:13):
to TSA's three one one rule. Now here's an interesting one.
Passengers flying from Hawaii, what fruit do A lot of
people bring back pineapple, pineapple, fresh pineapple, but you can't
bring fresh fruit. However that USDA has made an exception

(01:08:34):
for Hawaii for pineapples, but they have to be inspected.
It's not going to safe way and grabbing a fresh pineapple.
You can get it at the airport or different places,
usually three in a box and they have a certificate
that they have been inspected. The issue is not the fruit,

(01:08:55):
it's the bugs or disease that are on or inside
the fruit, especially coming to Hawaii. Well, that gives you
a complete guide of what you can and can't do.
And when we come back, I do want to talk
about some incredible Mexico all inclusives and we will be
headed to Hawaii. Welcome back to the travel show. I'm

(01:09:35):
Larry Gelwicks. That get away Uru one of the great
joys in life is a river cruise. And you can
go river cruising in Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America.
Morris Columbus Travel is the largest seller of river cruises
in the Inner Mountain area, and I know with Viking

(01:09:58):
in the entire way Western United States, and we have
a very special promotion. I said earlier. It's not bragging.
If it's true, I.

Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
Was going to say, we're kind of a big deal.

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
We're kind of a big deal. As the largest seller,
we get promotions, special rates, some exclusive offers that you
can't even get buying directly from the cruise line. Let
me give you an example. Viking Cruises. Morris Columbus Travel
has a limited number of certificates that will give you

(01:10:31):
for individual travel, not group travel, because group travel is
a whole different item with some huge discounts. But for
you and a significant other, spouse or a family or partner,
will give you an additional two hundred dollars up to
two hundred dollars off your Viking cruise. That's both ocean

(01:10:55):
and river cruises. Now this is on top of any
other possible promotion discount. You may have a free air
promotion or reduced air free gratuities, a dollar discount, whatever
promotion is out there, Morris Columbus Travel will add up
to an additional two hundred dollars and that is an

(01:11:18):
exclusive with Morris Columbus Travel as the largest seller. Now
this is for new bookings only. Alma Waterways is not
to be out done. The same general principle on new
bookings up to they'll give you an additional five percent
off on top of every other possible promotion that you

(01:11:39):
qualify for. Now, I said it's not good on group bookings, Wendy,
because when we do a river cruise, for example, next
year twenty twenty six, I have two Alma Waterways cruises.
One in November, the Maykong, which is one of my favorites.
It's Cambodia and Vietnam. We sail from Anchor Watt to

(01:12:04):
Saigon and everything. These tucked away small villages you a
depth into culture. We will offer a pre cruise option
to Thailand for three or four days. That's one. The other,
which I think is Kathy's favorite river cruise of all time,
is the Christmas Markets on the Rhine, a six hundred
year tradition that will be December third to the tenth

(01:12:30):
of twenty twenty six. The Maykong is November ninth to
the twenty six, with some options pre and post. Now
why these things don't apply to a group is when
we do a group, we usually buy either the entire
ship we charter it, or maybe half the ship. And
on the Maykong and Christmas markets we have chartered, we

(01:12:52):
have bought, we have taken inventory responsibility for half the ship.
And the discounts can be on these two cruises that
I'm hosting over one thousand dollars per person, per person
per person less than buying the same date the same
cruise directly from Viking directly or directly from Almah Mine

(01:13:15):
both are AMA right there. So yeah, there's a lot
of benefits to doing that. I love river cruising.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Let's they get they get a cruise with you and Kathy,
which is always a joy.

Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
And Kathy's a joy me. I'm marginal, you're there. The
jury's out, but we do. Oh, we have so many
fun activities together. Now, you were telling me that you
really do love Mexico. What is it about a Mexico say,
all inclusive resort, and that's the way to go.

Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
It's the relaxing atmosphere. It's the simplicity of the experience.
It's the beach. It is the to me, it's just
so relaxing, it's easy, it's quick to get there. I
could go on, do you want me to sure food?
Let's talk about the food. That's the wonderful Mexican food, fresh,

(01:14:07):
so many different dishes that you don't typically get here
at the tuckle Bell, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
And the service, oh, the service is great.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
You know, we got we really do listen to suggestions
from our listeners. We typically will give you air and
hotel specials to Hawaii and Mexico and other places. We
got about a week ago a suggestion from one of
our listeners, say, listen, you do come out with these
fantastic lead properties, either four sometimes five star properties. But

(01:14:43):
there's a difference between four star and five star, and
there's a difference between five star and ultimate over the top,
never to be repeated luxury. This fellow said, we are
only you know, excuse me. We really look for the
luxury experience, and I have found that luxury, once experienced,

(01:15:07):
becomes a necessity.

Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
Isn't it amazing how quickly you could get used to
being pampered that way.

Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
So let me give you very quickly. Can Kun four
star first class at the Sandos Karacol Resort, all inclusive.
I'm looking at dates July third to the eighth, and
all rates and promotions are subject to availability and change,
all inclusive, including your air fare nine hundred and ninety
seven dollars per person. But if you want an overwater

(01:15:36):
bungalow with the ultimate in luxury, I was looking at
early September at the Palafitos forty seven hundred bucks ahead.
There is a huge and there's some people who want that,
including my.

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
Wife, and it absolutely pays for itself in what they
give to you.

Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
When we come back, I'll give you an example in
Puerto Vyrta. And then we got to talk about Jen
Bridge Jesus here on the Travel show
