Speaker 1 (00:00):
And Dan Dockets joins us, Now, how you doing, Doc?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
What up my friend? How are you? Big day here?
Big day? We got the pacers, Come on, DIBs, let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Are they going to do it? I mean, you know,
I don't know the people here don't think Halliburton's a superstar?
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
You know? Here's what I think. I think being a
superstar isn't defined by anybody on TV. I think it's
defined by your performance. I think it's defined, particularly by
your performance in the biggest moments. And I think you've
been damn good divs. So if Stephen A Smith or
any other clown on the ESPN doesn't want to say
(00:39):
he's a superstar, great, good for you, but.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
We refer to him. You're screaming a Smith scream screaming.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, no, yeah, yeah. It's stupid. And look thirty one.
I asked Isaiah Thomas. I text him, Yes, I said, Yo,
you know, in my opinion, Isaiah's best point guard magic
And Isaiah, I said, you ever have a fifteen to
zip assist to turn over game? And he sent me
back he said, you know, he said, I don't think
I ever accomplished that one. And in a playoff game,
(01:06):
in a big game, must win game. I don't give
a damn whe if somebody says you're not. He's good,
a damn good.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
What's the most impressive part of his.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Game the turnovers? His decision making. He he will score
some and he scored a lot the other night, but
every night, dibbs, he is going to make the right
decision the vast, vast majority of the time. Now, I'll
tell you what else, and you'll appreciate this. The dude
went through some stuff. Now like he was bad at
(01:39):
the beginning of the year. In fact, he was so
bad he addressed it. You know, I don't know if
you know, like I don't know, if I lost focus,
I don't know. And his defense was non existent. He
got embarrassed and then we're tiny. He didn't salt wine,
bitch moan. He just you know, apparently got to work.
So that that's impressive. But his decision making when you
(02:03):
do and this isn't just the other game with fifteen
to nip, when you do his numbers, he's I don't know,
he's something craziest. Just the turnover ratio just makes the
right decision the vast fast majority it's not the fastest,
not the highest jumping, good shooter, really good shooter, I
would say, decision making. And he is not afraid of
big moments. You know what, Reggie Miller, name your guy.
(02:27):
Not afraid of the big ones, you know. And he's
got big ones late too, And those are the two
best things.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Dis pointed this out just right after the Game four,
when when Pascal Siakam has a day like the Pacers
are unstoppable, and then the three wins so far against
the Knicks, it's like thirty plus points. How has he
been so successful in this series?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
You know what he does. He's the one guy on
the Pacers team that can go get your one on one,
you know, left side. If you watch tonight, if the
Pacers are struggling, and you know, I've always said I
wish Miles Turner had developed the post game because you're
gonna play tonight in chaos, right players, gonna be crazy,
building is gonna be nuts, all that, and there's gonna
(03:10):
be a run and they'll get the ball. If they
don't get in transition or they don't get a secondary
break three, they'll end up getting the ball to Shiaka,
usually on the left block, and he has developed one
of these old school Elvin Hayes, Bobby Danders, Bob Love
turn around jump shots that it's just nobody's going to
(03:31):
affect it. It's just a matter of if he makes
a miss. So you have to broader answer your question.
He runs the court. He's a terrific shooter. You want
a layup, She's a really good layup shooter. He's a
really good three point shooter, and everything in between. And
they know to go to him in chaos when things
are not going well. And that's it. And he's a
(03:54):
pro man. Hey, I'm telling you, you guys, this team,
you interview him, you talk to the best freaking dudes, man,
And they're not like those nice dudes who you know
you can whoop their ass and deep down their soft
that kind of these deep killers that are nice dudes. Man.
Sure you know what I'm talking about Jims. Yeah, he's
(04:16):
a really nice guy. He bets three hundred in the
first four inning. Great, and then the last you know,
who do I want to face with two outs in
the bottom of the ninth faces Look, I want to
face him. Wait he's hitting three hundred. Yeah, yeah, my ass.
You know these guys are killers late. Many they've developed
and Chacom's always Ben Halliburn's developed into it.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Listen, Tom Thibodeau's a good dude. He came to my
charity thing last year. We raised a bunch of money
for a state trooper that got killed here in Connecticut.
But a lot he's taking a lot of heat because
he's only got about six guys in his rotation. Are
they worn out? Is it too late for them to
get deeper? I mean that's I look at the Pacers
or Oklahoma City, they have really deep benches and at
(04:58):
this stage, it's a true what what's your assessment of
what Thibodeau is doing with the with the Knicks.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
I think he's done a really good job because I
don't think they have a great roster. I know Greenberg
talked today about you know, it's druns since carried that
team the finals. I don't buy that. But it's a
it's a shame what's happened to Cameron paying campaign. You know,
I think he was a first round pick and he's awful.
And then when you look at what they're doing, you
(05:25):
know they're trying to steal literally steal minutes. People say, well,
he's playing guys too much. Well, hold on a second,
who's he supposed to play? You know, he's got him
in the Eastern Conference finals. They're one crazy ass net Smith,
you know, goes nuts for a minute away from having
a thing tied up. I just don't know who he's
supposed to play, you know, And that's not on him.
(05:48):
I don't know who the general manager is. But the
general manager is probably going to bask in the glory
of having a team go to, you know, the conference
finals and maybe the NBA Finals. But Tippoteau is doing
this with guys that, frankly are good players, not great players.
And Brunston's obviously very good, and I think I think
(06:10):
Bridges a little bit underrated. But I don't know who
the hell he's supposed to play. I mean, damn. I
thought losing Hartenstein was a big deal. Hartenstein was kind
of like two players. You can play them off as
a forward, you can play him as a center. I
thought this a big deal.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
To their death, and he plays eighty two games, like
we always track Hartenstein's games every night, every night, and
he's on that other team, Oklahoma City now in the
NBA Finals. They wait for the Pacers of the Knicks,
and what's your assessment on that team? Just what do
you like about OKC this season?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
You know what, this is gonna sound weird, but Hartenstein
kind of represents it. I like their mix. I said
this to Kevin Pritchard, the GM of the Pacers. You know,
it's one thing to put talent together. It's one thing
to overachieve whatever you want to call anything whatever. But
the key is we were talking, you know, is getting
guys that fit. You know, and okay, see fits you
(07:06):
know Hartenstein and Dort. Think about those two guys, I mean,
how do they fit on a team that's that good? Well,
because they're they're perfect pieces. You know, how does Robert
or end up winning five titles or packs in or
current Well because they fit, they fit into the team.
And the NBA lost its way with that a little bit.
(07:26):
I think with super teams and we're gonna get this
guy that guy, and you know, hey, look you got Lebron,
you got Wage, you got Bash, you can win. But
I think we're seeing teams that fit. I would even
say New York's in that. I think New York's got
guys that fit. But all right, you gotta fit, But
you got a men's talent in, say Gilgess Alexander. You
got a team that is not afraid to get in
(07:48):
the stands, play fast as hell, do all that stuff.
But they're gonna guard the hell out of you, and
they're gonna guard you with length. Every guy on that
team is long. Every guy on that team is It's
like the They feed off each other to play defense.
That's why they beat the crap out of teams. Because
if I come in, I'm expected to play at a
certain level, and if I don't play at that certain level,
(08:09):
someone else is gonna come in and play at the
level and I ain't gonna play. And that's the perfect
way to be. They fit, they have superstar and frankly,
everybody demands of one another. At least that's what it
seems like to me.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
I know you're a Cubs fan, Like the guy I'm
sitting across room right now is a Cubs fan. We
were talking about take away show, Hey and Aaron Judge,
Who's who's your next favorite player that we should be watching?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Kuzuki Baby, isn't he leading the league in RBI the
Cubs right fielder.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Yeah, but Pete Crow I'm strong. Who the Mets gave you?
He's got two seventy five?
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Yeah, he and you know what I've got friends have
season tickets and now everybody wants them because they want
to watch him. And you know what they tell me,
They go, man, it is fun to watch that kid
run like that kid, I guess is a little I
remember you guys when you had Dion Sanders.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I was at a game and that's a human I've
ever seen.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Yeps. He had a trip and we're sitting there. Belcher
got a seats and we're sitting there going, holy hell, like,
look at this dude go. And that's what they're telling
me about Pete Crow Armstrong. They're telling me these guys
like Dan but you know these guys been the Cups games.
I'm old as hell.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
They're like, I've been going forever. I ain't like this.
This guy so as a Zuki armshow everybody nobody else madters,
what's your guy named? What's the guy's name? What's your
guy's name? In Cincinnati?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Dela Cruz Cruz, But dude, he's a six ft five
shortstop and he's coolest. You would love him. He's a
good kid. I bet in one year, I learned English
because he said, I need to be able to talk
to my fans. Can you imagine a kid like that?
That's you gotta love that kid.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
No, you gotta love that. And he's uper talented. You
know the reds is. You know they don't score. You
gotta score. I looked, you gotta score. I don't know
what I don't know. Seems like you do.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Explain this poster to us DIBs. And I just saw
a poster that says Barkley Versus Dockage and there's a
golf ball behind it. Is what is this all about?
What's going on? Barkley Versus Dockage.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Monday, Barkley and Dockage. Sir Charles and I had a
golf match here in Indianapolis. He was in for the tournament.
We are in for these Eastern Conference finals. He was
off Monday, so we played over here at this country club.
And I'm not allowed to say who won, So my
(10:45):
show don't at me. They were putting it together. It
was a great time. I've never seen a human being
in my life. I forget what word. My wife he's
more gracious than.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Charles Barkley yeah, honest to god, man, I mean kids.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
You know, we got there and I knew the word
had gotten out, so I wasn't gonna you know, I
hate man, just come out. I don't care. So obviously
this country club over here, you know where I belong,
everybody's out and you know, we're going and people are
coming out with you know, from their houses videos. We're drinking.
You know, he gets a six pack, couple of cigars.
(11:22):
I get a six pack. We do a double shot
because we always do that with my brother and my
son and my nephew and I place. He does the
shot of jack with us, you know, and uh, yeah,
I took his head cover. This is probably wrong. He
had a monster driver. He could take his head cover,
put it down the front of my pants, rubbed my
sack on it, and think it out.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
You know.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
That's the kind of that's the kind of day it was.
So he'll never be back, and uh, you know.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
That's tremendous.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Yeah, but he stayed around after he had to go
to a dinner. And he stayed around after you know,
all the guys and the lady, everybody's thinking pictures. We're
just sitting around. He telling Larry bird stories and you
know he did a video after uh and I think
he was half cranked up because he left us and
I went to dinner and he was smoking a cigar
(12:15):
and he said, yeah, what a great day. Played golf
with my boy Doccas went here And you could tell
him like I sent him a text, I said, long day, brother.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Be careful there you go. Well, you are the best,
my friend. You and I get in trouble for speaking
the truth. So that's why I love.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
You, love me, Thanks brother, Thanks guys.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Enjoy the rest of the day. Enjoy the Pacers tonight.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Man, Yeah, man, I can't wait. It's gonna be fun. Thanks,
Thanks guys.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
